Sub'd. I love me a good wind-power thread. On a not-pointless-post point, I would wind my own stator and build my own rotor for a project like this if you are building, as opposed to using an alternator. I believe you get more power for less physical turns of the generator that way. I am also a noob at this, so don't take my word. Do research!

Have you ever looked into or heard of vertical turbines? They are very wildlife friendly, and quite efficient. Some guy near me built one himself and has it in his backyard.

Missouri wind and solar offers some budget-friendly DIY kits that you simply assemble and connect to your grid... Not sure if you want to shell out 6-8 hundred for a turbine, but that's certainly a cost-effective way relative to building one completely from scratch.

Nothing atm. If there is any kind of interest I'll start developing something based on the price folks are willing to pay, hopefully with open and competitive development. The only money really leaving bitcoin atm is paying miners electric bills, free electricity would turn those costs into profit. It all depends on how much a system costs though, carbon fiber and rear earth magnets cost a lot, farm water pump windmills and car alternators don't cost much.
water pump and car alternators don't make shit for electricity either, anyone who tells you otherwise either doesn't know or is lying

carbon fiber and rear earth magnets cost a lot UHM...not really. I can build a total custom 2KW wind powered generator for about ⊅60, materials cost, labor not included. Slightly more for a helical blade like they use in Holland. Do you need 12v, 24v, or 48v output? Their will be more money required, but not to build just a generator. You will need things like a charge controller, anti-island device if you plan on tying into a grid, deep cycle batteries with 200-300AH, tower support structure, etc. You could also further reduce some power consumption in a house by using a joule ringer, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkZKD7LHCzM

You don't read signatures? I thought everyone knew what the Bitcoin currency symbol is.

No, not really.... I'm guessing BTC? What plans do you use?

What currency is that?
Saved for future embarrassment What would you suggest for batteries, forklift banks? Yea, I believe those are generally thought of as the best, hard to kill, of course they're a lot more expensive than running to Walmart and buying marine batteries...

No, not really.... I'm guessing BTC? What plans do you use? Bartman and Fink, sometimes Forbes. Here is a vertical helical blade from Holland: It's more efficient than a vertical blade for low rpm generators.

What happens when the grid goes down? You will need batteries on site.

Not necessarily, if you only want to live by the grid, but you'd need a dump load...
