My first BTC wallet was hacked and i lost about $10 worth, it was a good cheap lesson to learn.
That was along time ago, now i only keep up to $50 of BTC in my online wallet and the rest is kept in cold storage.

Most people who have their private wallets hacked are just not protecting themselves enough i believe, we have all got so used to our finances being protected by our banks and if it's stolen then who cares it's insured, the bank will give it back.

Ah yes and the great 123456 password, not as safe as password1 but still great,  Tongue

First, exchanges are stupid and many still store funds in bitcoin wallet on the server (wallet.dat).  Bad idea.  If you do that, you will get hacked NO MATTER WHAT and lose all customer funds. It's GUARANTEED.

Second, many of these exchanges simply steal the money and blame hackers.

Hey guys Smiley

What is happening everywhere !

As 2015 started i see only hacked bitcoins thread !

There are some possibilities !

Wallets are not so secured!
Exchanges stealed money and saying that they are hacked !
Hackers got much knowledge to how to hack bitcoin addresses i mean they learnt much about private keys !

Tell me which is right statement ?👈

Also if hackers are clever enough then thts for them 🔫

Hack hack hack.  First there was that 150 car hack up in Michigan, because of all the weather hacks.  Then those planes were hacked, and Ukraine's army was hacked.  And with these prices, I get hacked every time I go to the grocery store.  Hack you very much, Hacky new year!

Most of "hacks" are inside jobs or scam sites in first place but i have feeling govs, banks and speculators have their fingers here too. Bitcoin is money wealthy elite cant controll so they sure would like to destroy Bitcoin.
Most of users here are talking about users getting hacked i guess.

If you read opening post carefully, you can see what is this thread about.

Could even be all the possibilities. But one thing for sure there's no such thing as bitcoin by itself getting hacked. Needs to clear that up or forever the misconception is there.

How many casino's are being hacked? .........Why is it always the exchanges? {In my opinion these exchange hacks are faked by people working or running the exchange}

Where are their counter measures? .... Honey traps.... triggers...? Nah.... it smells like a inside job.

You seldom hear anything about all the internet banking users losing money, because it's being swept under the carpet or the banks settle with the users out of court. My sister had the same thing with one of the bigger banks... they did not want to acknowledge that they had someone from inside the bank, who emptied her account, and she threatended to go to the papers... they then quickly settled and she had to sign a document denying their involvement, before they paid out the money to her. {She got no copy of the document and when she received the settlement, she went back to the bank to ask for it, and they denied ever having such a document}

They use tactics like that to intimidate people and when you want to take them on, they simply deny everything.

Yeah people need to take security more seriously to prevent all these hackings. Some of these could be easily avoided.

None of my wallets have been hacked so far, but I lost some amount when Instawallet shutdown their wallets. Didn't had any backup and I lost quite a few mBTCs.

like everyone else said, no one is hacking anything.  exchanges steal your funds after running fractional reserve on you and your bitcoin.  then blame it on hackers who cant and wont be caught as they dont exist.

It is true that 2015 is/was not a good start for BTC , but the problem is all of people
If you invest in some site giving HYIP , you are simplying saying , come steal me
Keep your passwrods hard and strong
Use sites liek random.org to make good passwords and remember them , do not save them anywhere

Well with bitcoin hacking is only because off people trying to get rich, say by investing in ponzis and all. by doing so they risk their coins and should be aware of the consequences.

Cryptos would become worthless if it was common knowlege that many/most exhanges use some form of a fractional reserve accounting.

That old, "the dog ate it", excuse keeps them coming back again and again.

this is nothing new, hackers always was hacking it is up to users to secure themselves or at least lower the chances of getting hacked
besides don't believe whatever you read.
in case of the exchanger that lost 7170 BTC, it is most probably an scam, no one in his right mind would keep that much money in one place to be stolen!

It's a poor public excuse to steal the money from the allegedly 'hacked' accounts by the management.
