Nothing is ever secure, even online banking system can be hacked. The result of exchange hacking is due to unfixed security issues and poor security measures (eg. exploits, majority of Bitcoins in hot wallet, poorly designed website) . The best option is never to store Bitcoins for long term in a exchange, no matter how trusted it is.

Correct .
Also some exchangers simply don't care about Security and only care about making quick buck . I mean what would cost them to make their exchanger using 2 Factor Authentification and Multisig adresses , nothign . they simply asks their developpers to do that

Well your bank account is insured and if your online banking account is compromised then the bank will cover any losses as long as you were not negligent (eg gave someone your password) in securing your account. With bitcoin on the other hand once the funds leave the control of your private keys (once they leave your wallet) they are permanently gone.

People are protecting their money with their FaceBook passwords. Nothing mysterious about it.
This plus most of the hacking incidents are the same owners of the exchanges bailing out and running with the money.

Hmm not really. This isn't a good statement unless proven. I doubt the owners of mt gox and Bter is the same. They may very well be inside employees or perhaps an actual hack.

Exchanges, hacked; funds, hacked; Gamebling sites, hacked; Personal wallet, hacked. There is no one that hacked can't hack.

Security is still the biggest stumbling to Bitcoin.

No you are wrong, bitcoin is secure the third part services like exchange, gambling site, etc... aren't secure. Please don't tell stupid things. Bitcoin is based on math, do you believe that math isn't strong now ? Think with your own head.

Agreed. If the hacks occur so often and on such massive scale (a la the BTC850,000 hack from Mt Gox), then BTC will never go mainstream. And unlike bank robberies, Bitcoin thieves are seldom caught.

People need to stop trusting others with their coins and adopt better security. Most people never lose any coins and decentralized exchanges will put a stop to large thefts which is the way we need to go.

How many decentralized exchanges are there? And how many of them are reliable? Right now, Bitcoin is in its infancy. These problems will persist for many more years. There is no easy shortcut to avoid these issues.

Honestly I've only heard 2 real Decentralized exchanges that are forthcoming, so until this is the norm, centralized BTC and Crypto exchanges rule the roost.

These 2:

http://www.coinffeine.com/

https://bitsquare.io/

Don't see these 2 launching or lifting off anytime soon, so decentralized exchanges aren't really an option for the majority of traders.

Quite confusing. They converted the actual BTC to January 2014 BTC?

For example, Stefan Thomas lost BTC7,000 and the loss is listed as BTC163 in January 2014 BTC.

It is most probably based on price. The price at the time of hack is lower than the price now. It is converted from USD to BTC instead of using just actual BTC stolen since it would be a slightly smaller hack then than now.

Hey guys Smiley

What is happening everywhere !

As 2015 started i see only hacked bitcoins thread !

There are some possibilities !

Wallets are not so secured!
Exchanges stealed money and saying that they are hacked !
Hackers got much knowledge to how to hack bitcoin addresses i mean they learnt much about private keys !

Tell me which is right statement ?👈

Also if hackers are clever enough then thts for them 🔫

Guys some news about stealing ! If anyone have any news let me know will add at top Smiley

http://observer.com/2015/02/bitcoin-crime-wave-breaks-out-in-nyc/  damn.... stay safe guys!

"A New York City firefighter named Dwayne Richards was recently held up, stabbed and robbed by thieves who were after his bitcoin, the Observer has learned. From what we’ve discovered, Mr. Richards—who is a firefighter in lower Manhattan—was mugged and left bleeding after meeting the robbers under the pretense of exchanging bitcoin for cash in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. He’s alive, well, and refusing comment.

"

Edit for clarification: Be careful meeting anyone and doing business with them, especially if they know you carry large amounts of value on your person, be it BTC/Money/Material items.

Hackers didn't think like us ;
` Everything was made up by people that were no smarter than you ` ; Then you can understand that hacking bitcoin
who was mading by Satoshi is not impassible  . Everything is exploitable else God .
