Why would you do it yourself at home vs paying for the online mine hosting? And vice-versa? I'm going to get into this and I am looking at buying all the hardware needed to get started, but before I do that I thought I would check and see if this mine hosting is as good or possibly better. Someone help a noob out please.  Thanks. |

I would think you would have better returns at home vs hosting. Remember, hosts will charge fees in addition to the normal uses by the hardware.

electricity price & availability
miners noise & heat
your lazy ass
...
i like home mining because i have the miners in hand not some place in the middle of nowhere
need heat
like more btc
etc

You can only mine at home to a certain scale. Eventually, if you have lots of miners you'll need to put them someplace where you can get commercial levels of power.
Plus, if your residential rate is over $0.10 it is probably cheaper to put them someplace else.

the 9 to 12 cent power at home may make money. 12 to 15 cent power at home should not make money over 15 cent power at home will not make money. |

It really depends on how much experience you have with miners and also the electricity price. If you have electricity over 15 cents per kwh it may be cheaper to have your miner hosted somewhere else although you then have a monthly cost that you have to pay. You also may have a lease when having your miner hosted.

My hosting is all month-to-month, no-contract and the monthly is based entirely on power draw (no shelfspace rental fees or VPN charges or anything). We set it up intentionally to help home miners that couldn't afford to mine at home anymore, help 'em get an edge on the giant industrial farms that're choking us all out. I think Sunbreak's hosting is set up pretty much the same way.

It really depends on how much experience you have with miners and also the electricity price.
I think electricity price is huge factor if not biggest. I personally think 10 cents or less mine at home (assuming you have room). Up from there do math to see whats best. Add some things if you do hosting. Such as shipping and handling to yourself or someone you sell to. The amount of trust it takes is HUGE. Make sure to read reviews and look at amount of downtime, quality, etc on the forum. |

At home you got to have:
- a separate, closed room for the hardware
- a way to deal with the heat and noise
- a stable internet connection
- a good stable and cheap electricity
- a grid that can handle huge load (unless you just want a single miner)
- time to maintain the hardware, reset it and so on
- smoke detectors and a way to deal with possible fire
The main issue with hosting is trust. You have to consider a possibility that the company will try to steal from you.

if you choose to do a Hosted service it would probably be better to go local.(your country)
I'm not saying far away services are not good, but when your miner becomes
obsolete or they can no longer provide efficient service you'll be paying the cost
to ship it/them back to you.

Unless you sell the gear, in which case the buyer pays shipping from the hosting facility. That's not uncommon.

Hosting is always a better option, at home its hard to do all the maintanence. But its all taken care of by hosting.
I don't know if I would say this. There really is not a whole lot of maintenance just initial setup. If there is maintenance something has went wrong. The hosting in most cases has same warranty you do. |

I actually liked the work and maintenance (playing with the hardware is most of the fun for me) so I turned my home mining into hosting. Working out pretty well I guess.

Oh yeah, when I was starting out in mining the first thing I did was figure out how to max out my gear. I made a lot more selling overclock kits than I did mining, turned it all into hardware and went from 17GH to about 3TH inside of six months with no out-of-pocket expenses. Now I'm actually working on underclock info instead, and most of my mining revenues go to buying old gear for our museum shelf. The main reason we're hosting is so people that want to mine "small-time" but can't afford it at home can get a good deal. That, and because it means more hardware to play with...
