So....pardon my ignorance and lack of ability to read any kind of code whatsoever....but does the 50,000 total coins mean that the POW will be 1000 coins, and the PoS will make it 50000 total after the 50000% ? or will POW be 50000 coins?

OP says maximum supply, not stating whether it is maximum POW supply or maximum total supply. that is why one could be confused.
For now there like 1446 coins in circulation, so it seems that you are right and there will be 50k coins in PoW, increased 500-fold in the next year in the PoS.
Assuming that right, there is one more question to clarify: what is the total supply after PoS phase?
