According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Did anyone ever start a meetup? If not, let's pick a night and get coffee or whatever. I work somewhat regular hours, so nights and weekends are best for me. Guardian of Forever, Gurthang and Fcx35x10, you three posted the most recently. Are you still interested. Or should I say, for the amusement of some of the people on the forum, "Are y'all still interested?" When is best?

Hey sign me up as well!  I'm not a big poster here, plus I lurked without registering for months, but I would love to meetup with people in Houston.  Anybody work in the Galleria area?  I would be willing to go downtown as well.  There is also that new company Houston Bits which claims that they will be hosting some bitcoin meetups in the Montross area.

Looking forward to meeting some of you.

Galleria area works for me. Downtown would be better. I can go wherever. We should pick a night next week and get this going while interest is being shown.

I'm from Pearland, so anywhere other than north Houston works for me.  My schedule is erratic, but flexible as long as I have a couple weeks notice.

I'll likely be out of town next week, but should be back by Friday.

This can be a useful tool for coordinating meetups if you don't want to pay to register a full group:

Just got back from a BitCoin Meetup in Austin and it was really good.

It's a bit of a drive from Houston so looking to get a Houston Bit/Alt-coin meetup going....

Is there still an interest from some Houston folks?Huh?   BTC

Sounds like a great idea.

The question would be is what to talk about?

The Folks in Austin have a good flow.

Once a month on a weekend day they line up local industry "Experts" this past weekedn they had BitPay, Bitcoin Foundation, an Angel Investor and a Developer demonstrate his zero knowledge code/work.

Then once a week he has an informal get together and who ever shows up talks about their topics of interest with each other - topics depend on who shows up.

The key is the Gent who is running lead is doing a great job of running lead and setting up the venues and presenters.

Not sure if anyone is willing or able to take on that kind of torch and run with it...

I love Houston! I used to live there for two years prior to moving to Vegas the first time. Speaking of westerns, that's where I met James Drury (The Virginian). He used to hang out at Denny's in Katy with other gents of his ilk.

I haven't attended. I plan to, but have been busy setting up Bitcoin rigs.

Nice, I will try to attend one of these soon. I've been to the Austin Bitcoin meet up once, but a Houston Bitcoin meetup would save a hour of driving which would be nice. Smiley
