you're right of course, but there is some undeniable solidarity between black people in the united states. i've noticed the same in the UK. that's what i'm talking about.
i made some suggestions, but it isn't my industry. getting it into the hands of a prominent rapper would go miles, and i believe my suggestion of someone like snoop dogg would be very very effective.
Certainly there are East Coast Rappers vs West Coast Rappers culture. I'm excited for his new album, hopefully his spiritual enlightenment isn't all just hype or I'll be further disenfranchised with our society. HOWEVER, if you want to study the effects bitcoin could have on low economic countries/states/cities etc, that is another story entirely.
I have had some ideas along this line as well. Problem is now that Bitcoins are appreciating so fast that it doesn't work very well until we get more stability. We could make a basic price index that tracks in their currency and BTC. They could use this to track inflation by their government and then with that information, natives could decide to save in Bitcoin so they can try to preserve wealth that would of been eroded by inflation. This type of application I could see as being a major economic reform in under-developed countries. you think? this kind of 'study' only seems operable within a test-tube where _many_ environmental conditions are controllable. i think the only study that makes any sense is a live one aka getting bitcoin into peoples' hands and seeing what happens. I didn't say anything about a study. This would be a real world experiment. What we would need to do is create and index of basic prices that would would track (like the U.S. CPI except not rigged) prices. Then you would see changes over time in the relative value. Price increases would signal possible inflation and drops could mean deflation. Over time you would get data that you could graph. Then if it was posted on the internet, the locals could check them. They could use save in Bitcoins and then use this data to know what price they should sell and buy at. If they were saving in Bitcoins and a huge amount of inflation came in, then they would know what price things like bread and meat should be in their local currency or in BTC. Also if the natives were fed up with the bad governmental policies, they could go into a pure-bitcoin economy settling up in BTC. You need savings in a country so they can use it for investment. This would be a first step to create this wealth base. Thoughts? Dalkore |

no one likes to talk about things like this in such terms, but allow me to be a bit brazen:
i think we need to get the beautiful dark-skinned people in all nations involved in the bitcoin scene. for obvious reasons, they're generally not super trusting of government or any conglomeration of oppressive power, but simultaneously wield a great power in terms of influence in popular culture.
who can we talk to about making the 'megaupload' video of bitcoin?

I have a counter proposal for you. Make Bitcoin popular with folks from trailers in eastern Kentucky. That's likely more within the reach, the language barrier is smaller, etc. Once you get some success there you can challenge yourself further. LANGUAGE BARRIER? good grief. i'm glad i made this thread, maybe we can all air out how we really feel. not that i care as long as the original question gets discussed.  Yeah, language barrier. You were talking about "dark-skinned people in all nations," and I replied before I realized you didn't know what you were talking about. You have since changed your proposal to deal with the US and UK. Most of dark-skinned people in this world are not native English speakers, or speak English dialects which are very different from yours. Also, judging from how you imagine dark-skinned culture in your OP, it's fair to say there is also a cultural barrier problem, in addition to the language barrier. For these reasons, I suggested eastern Kentucky as your first step. I like your revised plan better. Try and get Snoop Lion on board if you want to attract his kind of audience. The ultimate win would be to get that guy called Barrack on board. I don't give a shit about it. Finally, just in the interest of full disclosure, my skin is fair, I listened to Public Enemy live in the early '90s, later on I met Chuck D in person. I met Bobby Seale in person. Hell, I own a "free Mumia" t-shirt. |

bitcoins don't have a color
there are too few Whites, Blacks, Asians, etc. who own bitcoins. We need more people involved regardless of race, color, religion, etc.
We do not need to politicize bitcoin.

try again folks. i am black. i used a provocative subject line and there is indeed 'racism' here, but it's nothing that you aren't aware of already. do black people identify with their own subculture, the borders defined by them largely by skin color? absolutely. i don't agree that this is somehow a good direction for humanity, but i never said anything about dumber/slower, either... that you came up with THAT is 'racist'.
I am curious, though. How would you, as a black person, promote bitcoin to black people? Discount on KFC bucket if pay with BTC  |

I think class and religion unite people more than skin colour (at least in Britain). On a typical Manchester housing estate the black people of Caribbean and a Christian heritage have a closer connection with white British people than with Islamic black Somalis living on the same estate. ie culture is not defined by skin colour - most families on these estates are mixed race, but share the same religious heritage (even if they no longer subscribe to those religious beliefs). In fact the average Manchester housing estate tends to be very mixed race - but there is a clear disconnect based on religious heritage. Most white kids on Mancheser housing estates would identify themselves with black (Afro-American-Carribean) culture, rather than 'traditional' white British culture. (apologies for going on about Manchester, but that's where I grew up and so I know what it's like) |
