He needs to be 100% sure that you will be able to pay back the loan and that you wont run off with his money.

I have a secured loan available at BTCJam. I'm using my ASICMINER-PT shares as collateral, the current sell value is 102% of the loan amount. (they keep the shares in escrow).

The return is 2% per month, it's not 10% but is 102% secured!

Something I should be concerned? So far I'm really liking their service, they say the service is free for investors.

I dont know where I would have to start:

I dont trust their code.
I dont trust them.
I dont like their inflexible model.
I dont like the amount of scammers they attract.
I dont like that accounts there are so anonymous, so scammers can loan themself btc, repay on time and get reputation
...

I'm in no way related to BTCJam and you are free to like or dislike anything you want, but your comment doesn't sound very rational.

You had access to their source code? Do you have any reasonable reason to not trust them? Anonymous accounts can't rate others, I had to verify myself in order to make a loan listing.

I found their system very useful and the site works pretty well. It's saddening how people is so negative around here.

Start some business/service with some high discount at the beginning, after a couple of month and a history of successfull deals you can derecrease that discount. Another couple of months later you can demand that other people go first. Some deals successfull deals later you can come back here and ask for loans.

The business / service depends on your skills and could be:
designing, coding, btc exchange, ... teaching / answering questions about a subject where you are pro...

good question . seems like there are 4-10 ppl running to every post posted making it harder for newcommers to gain trust or even gest started

  • First of all, this is my thread, so I guess you didnt meant me, because I should be allowed to reply to questions in my own thread...
  • Second, not the "lenders" (I guess those are those 4-10 ppl...) making it harder for newcomers to gain turst or even get stated. The problem are all those third world scammers who already run with $20 becuase its a years income for them. Find some way to kick out all of them and every lender will be happy to give money to people who intend to repay. Im sure you wouldnt risk your own money, to proof other people are legit!
  • Third, loans are not meant to build trust. You start a business, offer a service whatsoever and then after proofing your ability and your will to repay a loan you can come here and ask for a loan.
  • Fourth, lets assume that some of those requests ae indeed legit. So why do they basical only post "I need money"? They dont specify what for, how they intend to repay it, if they have a job, their age, their location and in case they have poor reputation if they have collateral? I mean the first reply in every thread is, "do you have any collateral?" and the typical answer of those is "what do you mean?". That is pretty annoying and if they dont know so far what collateral (which they would after only reading 1 other loan request) they should not complain about those 4-10 people who state the obvious (asking for collateral, say that they wont get a loan with their reputation without collateral, and so on)

I already lost over 1000 BTC to scammers, so dont expect any sympathy!

If you think that this is unfair, you can offer a lending service on your own. "newcomers" will accept high interest rates without problems, so  you can charge them 20% per month or even higher without problems, but dont come to me or anyone else and say "buhu xyz didnt pay me back"

hehe no man i didnt mean u. i ment some other ppl who dont have anything to do with u or the lender. just same ppl jumping from post to post . from subsection to subsection posting things like : dont trust him. he is a scammer . total scam - to ppl who dont have any bad trust feedback or anything.

and not everyone can start a service or something.

i understand fully the reason for colateral and escrows and support what ur saying. maybe not fully the part on how to build trust.

I bought 1.5 BTC from sturle and over 4 BTC face to face with cash from helgjon @ localbitcoins.com does that count as some trust? (dont want to lend money, just asking)

Ignore those, no real lender listen to those bricks. They only want to push their postcount and / or make their name public in the lending section so they can scam later "easier".

and not everyone can start a service or something.

Everyone can. It all depends on your skills. The easiest way is to buy and sell bitcoins... get a good otc rating and when you have a bigger volume no lender has a problem to deal with you.

I hope you dont refer to "laons dont build trust" and I didnt exclude other possibilities from building trust.

Its a start. After verifying those transactions I would trust you with like $50
