Hello guys,

I'm a brand spanking new miner (as of 45 mins ago) and I have some quick questions.

First off my rig:

Q6600 Quad core Intel CPU

Nvidia GTX 285

8 Gigs of ram

Win7 64bit ultimate

So I noticed my Mhash/s rate is roughly 60, I'm currently using the deepbit pool and I'm wondering is this even feasible for bitcoin mining? I looked up a calculator and it said it would give me roughly 50 dollars a month. But I'm not sure if that's a pool rate or solo mining. Anyway, I'm seriously considering making my own bitcoin mining rig, but am hesitant because I don't know enough about bitcoin mining to know if it will turn a profit or not. I mean, can I really make some cash off of this? Can anyone give me a real world success story that will sell me on buying a bitcoin rig? I looked at some bitcoin rigs online and saw that some were producing 2Ghash/s (2000 Mhash/s ?) and plugged that into a calculator and saw that it would essentially pay itself off within 3 months, assuming that I turned 150 BTC in for cash.

So with being said, what are people doing? bitcoin mining then trading coins in for dollars?

Thanks a ton in advance

Every time a block is mined, a certain amount of BTC (called the subsidy) is created out of thin air and given to the miner. The subsidy halves every four years and will reach 0 in about 130 years.

I do bitcoin mining then save them up until I need them. The price per coin should raise in time since bitcoin mining slowly becomes non-profitable. But anything can happen, it's a bit of a gamble.
But with any Nvidia card you won't make alot of BTC. Sorry.

Best advice I can give you is to run the rpcminer-cuda thats included with guiminer (its in the custom miner folder named puddinpop)

Just for comparison:

Opencl mining client with my geforce 460gtx peak at around 72mhash/s
Cuda mining client with my geforce 460gtx at exact same core/memory run at 88mhash/s
