For some reason over last few day's people have not been signing messages.  I HIGHLY suggest people go back to using the method of posting address and signing message.  It helps prove you own address, always verifys the ability of singing.  I would hate to post a address and find out when need to get it back you cannot sign with it.

It's a form of security... read the OP of this thread and you'll see the full explanation.
Basically, you stake your address, and somebody else quotes it. In case your account gets hacked, the hacker cannot edit/delete the quote somebody else made, hence you can always prove you staked the address.

A staked address is usefull when signing messages with the staked address to prove you still own an account

If you lose your password or it get's hacked, the admin will be able to recover it for you if you stake the wallet it's a proof when you are able to sign a message from an UNEDITED post.

Quoting addresses makes that if someone hack your bitcointalk account you can send from your (quoted) Bitcoin address a signed message and prove that the account belongs to you.
