Bitreserve, a San Francisco-based digital currency exchange service, has announced a new partnership with billionaire Ricardo Salinas-Pliego. Pliego is CEO of Grupo Salinas, which manages telecom, media and financial services oriented businesses. Salinas-Pliego is considered one of the wealthiest entrepreneurs in Mexico, with an estimated net worth of $8 billion dollars. The new partnership will allow Bitreserve to access the remittance market in Mexico, through Pliego’s existing financial and banking infrastructure. The partnership will also infuse Bitreserve with an undisclosed amount of investment capital, which will allow further development and expansion.

This is fantastic, I'm all eyes and ears when it comes to improving the remittance market of bitcoin especially in Mexico by such a top notch and wealthy man who has every vested interest in seeing it working out and improving. God speed to this outfit and its mission as it will help to explode the usage and price of bitcoin and create a model that others in such a position across the world can follow and emulate.

When these people pay more to transfer money home than driving it across the border, they will see the benefit of using BTC.

Good for him to do something positive for his people and to stick it to MoneyGram and Western Union. These sites need backing by people like him, to be able to succeed in being disruptive in that market.

Strange how history repeat itself ....In the late 19th century Western Union had the monopoly, and dominated the telegraph industry.... Now a new telecomm giant could disrupt and dominate their market.

Very interesting, I did not know that. The telegraph is in my opinion a reason, why the gold standard became obsolete, because it was possible to wire contracts as collateral between banks much faster than shipping gold. This time it will change the entire financial world again, because we do not need contracts and their enforcement (by state power) anymore, because we can rely on cryptography and telecommunication as store of value and medium of exchange.

I only learned about it by watching the interview at the Keiser Report. BTW, Salinas' TV Azteca studios were also the host of Keiser Report from Mexico.

It did strike me on how Ricardo Salinas, the closer you look at Latin America Reality, is deemed as much of an Oligarch for the sales of products and services to the working class, just as Warren Buffet (you might want to check that part of Last Keiser Report) is now selling "mobile homes" to poor people.

Go figure.

Salinas, certainly, is not as wealthy as its superb competitor Azcarraga of Televisa media company, or America Movil's Carlos Slim.

I suppose one "Maverick" businessman had to step forward and offer what no-one in Mexico had offered before. I've got the impression that most other companies are too tied for now to the fiat banking system, so that they don't want to do anything with bitcoin.

Oh, yes, Maverick seems to be a good term: Salinas' TV Azteca also sold years ago in retail stores a decoder for the recently introduced TDT system, by MUXing restricted signals into their regular, public broadcast channels. That was deemed as the ultra-low price access for people to a couple of exta TV channels. Azteca was "reprehended" by the Telecommunications Bureau for using a public channel for different purposes than the ones their License allowed. Well, those private coded channels are still broadcasting today.
