Title: MicroGuy's Altcoin Pick of the Week (Inside Scoop)
Post by: MicroGuy on June 16, 2015, 01:44:04 PM
Every week on Tuesday, I'll be providing a free weekly pick to the community. That coin will then be covered in a feature story on Altcoinpress.com on Wednesday. Then on Sunday, I'll post a follow-up with charts.

Here is the weekly itinerary for this thread:

Tue - Release my weekly Altcoin pick at precisely 8:00pm EDT (New York Time)
Wed - Publish feature story on Altcoinpress.com.
Sun - Weekly follow-up with charts.

If you're here to learn about day trading, you're in the wrong thread. This thread will simply present my favorite altcoin of the week each Tuesday and explain the reasons I like it. Then on Wednesday, I'll write a story about the coin and share this information with the readers of Altcoin Press.

This thread will be the only place where this advance information is made available!

Altcoin Pick for the Week of 6/14/2015

Altcoin = Navajo (http://www.navajocoin.org/)
Ticker = NAV (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/navajo/)

Website = http://www.navajocoin.org/

https://www.gldtalk.org/devteam/picks0614.png

Brief Overview

Inspired by the Navajo heroes of World War II, with their unbreakable Navajo code used to encrypt highly classified military information, this coin has obviously not yet been discovered by the mainstream altcoin investor.

Considering Navajo's nifty anonymous network features, pure POS algorithm, and new summer road map, I believe this coin is highly undervalued. There are dozens of less-organized clone currencies placed above this 77th ranked techno darling. The Navajo community is knowledgeable, loyal, and well-versed in the qualities needed to bring about success. Priced at only 1600 Satoshi's, this coin deserves a place on every investor's radar.

If you're looking for a coin for the long-term, I can't think of a better choice at the moment. Therefore, I must award NavajoCoin the Altcoin Pick of the Week!

Be sure to check out my NavajoCoin 'Feature Story' tomorrow on AltcoinPress.com (http://altcoinpress.com/)

Great pick MicroGuy...  ;)

short resume of the last few months on Navajo vs. price :

The group of devs for Navajo (4 guys) developed a new kind of anonymous feature (explained in their white paper) but it took a long time between the first announcement and finally the beta release. This coin was around 300satoshis pre-anonymity announcement and jumped as high as 3,5k...  There was a lot of Fud during the beta release of the anon and a p&d group (called AMK) successfully manipulated that market for a while. seems they are now completely out of this coin. What didn't helped Nav to keep a floor price in the 3k satoshis is that the anon tech, although unbreakable and untraceable, wasn't totally decentralized - and the release happened also when the 'war' between Dash/SDC/XMR was all the rage. So, the deserved hype faded very fast for Nav and traded volume too.

Now, Nav price seems stable at around 1,5k since last 2 months now and those that was holding this coin from the 300-ish price level and wanted to get out, did already.  The PoS % for first year of Navajo was somehow really high, at 20%. That partly explained the sell pressure. Now, the PoS % has reduced to 10%  and, combined with the June roadmap (real decentralized anon, redesign, multipool, webwallet), it makes this coin a very good investment choice with, imho, limited risk and high reward.

NavajoCoin’s Summer Road Map Offers Breathtaking Views

http://altcoinpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/navajo_view-728x374.jpg

The Navajo people make up the largest federally recognized tribe in the united states. The Navajo Nation extends into the states of Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico, covering over 27,000 square miles of unparalleled remote beauty.

It only makes sense that a cryptocurrency would be born that embodies this rich heritage. The Navajo Coin community is determined to bring freedom and anonymity to the forefront as their namesake did nearly a century ago.

Full Story: http://altcoinpress.com/2015/06/navajocoins-summer-road-map-offers-breathtaking-views/

I'm not going to troll, but I want to offer another facet of navajocoin which has unfortunately been completely overlooked.  They have no official association with the Navajo people and are using the name and symbols of these people without permission.  This kind of behavior goes against the United Nations Declaration of the Rights of Indigenous peoples.  Unfortunately, when I brought this up in the NAV thread, I mainly got shouted at.  I think the right thing for the navajocoin people to do is to find a way to seek the permission of the Navajo nation to use their symbols and name.  Until they do this, I'm not going to be a part of yet another story of cultural appropriation against native peoples of America.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Navajocoin people intend to be disrespectful, but until they do the right thing and recognize that it's not okay just to slurp up the symbology of a people and pretend that it's yours then you're not doing the right thing even if you do have good intentions.  And I'm not saying the coin isn't solid or that the devs aren't smart.  I'm just saying that this branding has intellectual property issues which strike at the heart of the sad history of relations between indigenous people and colonialists on this continent.

Sunday Recap

It was a real blast turning 50-years-old this week as I found myself infusing a most interesting beer (http://imgur.com/FOyceGE).

But that was nothing compared to the fireworks witnessed when Navajo Coin's price nearly tripled, moving from .00001580 on Tuesday, to .00003999 (253% gain) on Thursday, and then finally coming back to rest at .0001800 BTC. It was very interesting watching the markets react in this way. The Navajo has always been known as a darting and agile warrior.

We had a lot of fun this week interacting with the community and meeting the many helpful Navajo Coin team members. The Navajo might seem shifty at times, but if you're looking for a coin for the long-term, I can't think of a coin with a better team to get behind. Okay, I need to sleep a couple of hours now to let this aged body rest.

Be sure to tune back in at the "same thread time, same thread channel" this Tuesday, when I'll be releasing my FREE altcoin pick of the week for 6-21-15. Don't miss a moment of the madness!

Yeah...sorry, I'm going to be a Debby downer on this one. That "rise" was on a minuscule amount of volume compared to the overall NAV market. Moreover, only a single exchange saw that price rise. Look at 'Trex, barely broke 2k. I appreciate you bringing coins into the "spotlight" that might be otherwise overlooked, but please don't call a flash-in-the-pan rise and fall (on a single exchange) as proof of market penetration and/or evidence of market prowess.

That being said, I do agree with you that NAV has been under appreciated by the market and has a lot of room to run. Keep pointing out coins for folks to look at, covering them from an objective perspective and your articles and threads should do well by you.

Disclosure: I am LONG on NAV.

Altcoin Pick for the Week of 6/21/2015

Altcoin = CannabisCoin (http://cannabiscoin.net/)
Ticker = CANN (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/cannabiscoin/)

Website = http://cannabiscoin.net/

https://www.gldtalk.org/devteam/picks0621a.png

Brief Overview

(bonus: audio backing track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JFl7TZDLkP0) for this post.)**

and a second track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pdR2iYtYbmU) for those that read slow ...

CannabisCoin (CANN) is a proven payment solution for marijuana dispensaries, retailers, and online merchants. The coin is backed by medical-grade marijuana where its accepted, and is a community rooted coin, not a centralized "company coin" like big brother Bitcoin.

https://i.imgur.com/ncIaIyr.gif

I feel the world deserves a cannabis related cryptocurrency. But at this time, I'm not so sure there's sufficient demand for 4 or 5 cannabis-themed cryptos.

Considering this coin is focused on real world use, is politically and medically correct in name, and is consumer branded for a plant medicine rapidly expanding in legalization and social acceptance, I feel this cryptocurrency deserves a place on every investor's radar. I noticed today also that CANN is now accepted by CAT (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=507103.0), the exciting and new automated cryptocurrency trading bot.

Plus, this coin is no stranger (https://en.wikipedia.org/?title=Willie_Nelson) to the highs of the charts. CannabisCoin once held a position in the top 15 with a marketcap of over $5 million dollars. With the block reward halving in just a few days (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=827998.msg11671561#msg11671561), this could be an ideal time to pick up a few CANN for your portfolio.

If you're looking for a coin of the future, I can't think of a better option at the moment. Therefore, I must award CannabisCoin my Altcoin Pick of the Week!

Be sure to check out my Cannabiscoin 'Feature Story' tomorrow on AltcoinPress.com (http://altcoinpress.com/)

Is Navajocoin related to Mazacoin? I see they share the same "folk" approach with a indigenous sonding name. I remember investing in MZC, something like 0.2, and I got burned, the thing crashed the next day, Payus sort of dissappear.. with time it just went to a few hundred satoshis. It was souding good with all those official papers of it being accepted by a tribe as the official currency, but it all ended up in nothing, I have no idea if some other devs picked the project up or something. I still got them lol, they show up on my portfolio trading for 67 in Cryptsy... great deal.

Navajo does use the indigenous sounding name but because of WW2 cryptography (wiki code talker).  Not some wishy washy thing like Maza which was built on lies that confused and ultimately exploited investors.  Especially those in Europe and Asia who are ignorant about the internal matters of the US and bought the claims that there was a sovereign Maza nation and/or  that indigenous poverty can be solved by their own currency (false - a start to fixing that would be the restoration of the hereditary system and land redistribution of the tribal lands, because the status quo means nobody can use it as equity to take out loans and access to capital is a necessity in capitalism to prosper).

It's important to recall that the Navajo are now just code talkers from WW2 but a contemporary nation of people with rights.  It's really a shame that NAV is perpetrating more of the historical abuses of indigenous peoples by failing to recognize that the only people who have the right to call themselves Navajo (and to make money from this name) are the Navajo and anyone that they've contracted with for use of the name.  It's doubly a shame because the NAV team really wants to honor the Navajo, I think. But you can't honor someone by using their name without permission.

CannabisCoin Looks to ‘Get High’ After Block Halving

... audio backing track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ncRYahEda1w) for this post.

http://altcoinpress.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/06/budtrim-728x410.jpg

A special love weed is overtaking the nation as bong puffers the world over begin using crypto to purchase the multi-useful plant medicine. Cannabis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cannabis) is a sacred flowering plant that has been demonized for decades in many western societies.

But now the tide is turning, and it seems that much of the irrational resistance to this miracle plant is going up in smoke. A quick Google search reveals endless news stories of favorable legislation (http://norml.org/) creeping across the states. And as more buyers line up to purchase the wacky wonder weed, merchants look to cannabis-themed cryptocurrencies for collecting on their nickle and dime bag wares.

CannabisCoin (http://cannabiscoin.net/) (CANN) is a new payment solution geared towards these marijuana dispensaries and online merchants. The coin once held a position in the top 15 with a marketcap of over $5 million dollars, but then the altcoin market crashed. Its community is hoping the upcoming block reward reduction will help erect the budding coin and bring it back into the spotlight.

Altcoin Pick for the Week of 6/14/2015

Altcoin = Navajo (http://www.navajocoin.org/)
Ticker = NAV (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/navajo/)

Website = http://www.navajocoin.org/

https://www.gldtalk.org/devteam/picks0614.png

Personally I think that HYPER is one of the best altcoins in the market at the moment. It has great developers,user network,games integration and a steady price grow on the exchange.(bittrex)

Also offers 5%/month PoS rewards and has a unique personalized wallet along with a complex,well-thought development plan.

Otherwise, we will just be opening a huge can of worms. :D

Why is CANN superior to Bitcoin when it comes to buying weed?

CannabisCoin once held a position in the top 15 with a marketcap of over $5 million dollars. With the block reward halving in just a few days (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=827998.msg11671561#msg11671561), this could be an ideal time to pick up a few CANN for your portfolio.

Marketcap doesn't say much about a coin and I think people are vastly overestimating the significance of the block halving;
Currently there are 6760 coins being mined daily which is worth around 0.123 BTC currently. That is a very small amount.
Cutting that in half is nothing compared to the daily trade volume so there's no logical reason why the price would change significantly and stay there long term.

Thank you for these comments.

The marketcap of a coin is a good indicator in terms of visibility within the market. Market movements are not always "logical", they are often psychological in nature. As I stated in my first CANN post, the block halving will (has (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/cannabiscoin/#charts)) provide a boost that could help lift the coin higher in the charts.

It will be up to the community to take this momentum and use it for the continued advancement of the currency.

Sunday Follow-up for the Week of 6/21/2015

Ticker = CANN (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/cannabiscoin/)

Website = http://cannabiscoin.net/

[Sunday Recap]

We had another terrific gain this week with CANN moving up from .00001575 at the time of my pick, to .00001960 earlier today.

That's a rapid gain of 19.25%. And with the block reward just around the corner, and an engaged community more active than ever, I see no reason for the celebration to stall here. CannabisCoin is a solid investment with great potential. I'll be keeping a close eye on this currency over the coming months.

Be sure to tune back in at the "same thread time, same thread channel" this Tuesday @ 8:00PM (see thread OP for details), when I'll be releasing my FREE altcoin pick of the week for 6-28-15. Let's keep the winning streak alive!

good call on CANN
Let's see if it dog legs up another level or touches back on 1600s?
CANN and POT have established themselves as the leading cannabis coins.  The potential (pun intended) is high.

This week's pick promises to be the most exciting yet! :)

Altcoin Pick of the Week for 6/28/2015

Altcoin = Sexcoin (http://www.sexcoin.info/)
Ticker = SXC (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/sexcoin/)

Website = http://www.sexcoin.info/

Brief Overview

(bonus: audio backing track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7-m9uG50mSw) for this post.)**

Making a living in cryptocurrency is not always easy. You will likely discover countless ups and downs along the journey. Frequently, I find myself on the bottom getting pounded, but then, right when I feel I can't take the pressure a moment longer, the roles are reversed, and I'm once again on top in the "pole position".

This leads me to Sexcoin (SXC), my Altcoin pick of the week!

With many long-time Bitcoin conservatives now openly admitting that the cryptocurrency revolution will not be restricted to Bitcoin, it's becoming apparent that there will soon be increasing demand for niche currencies. And I believe Sexcoin has a real shot at capturing the attention and favor of the adult market.

http://puu.sh/iIM6v/f11ff1a9e5.png

This coin once traded in excess of $.10 per coin with a market capitalization (https://web.archive.org/web/20131212093559/http://coinmarketcap.com/?) exceeding $4 million dollars. And lately, many of the 2013 marketcap leaders are finding renewed market interest. But for some reason, the Sexcoin revival has escaped the radar of active traders and major investors.

Sexcoin caught my attention a few days ago when I noticed it erecting up the charts. After investigating, I discovered that bitcointalk user lavajumper has recently started reviving (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=252896.msg11740749#msg11740749) the coin and rebuilding its various forums and websites. I believe if the community will rally around his efforts and participate in the rebuilding process, we could see a Sexcoin revival becoming THE STORY of summer.

I'll do my part by offering right now to run a free sidebar banner for Sexcoin for the next 30 days. All we'll need is some safe-for-work artwork.

If you're seeking a high-risk bet with massive upside potential, I can think of no better choice at the moment. Therefore, I must award Sexcoin my Altcoin Pick of the Week!

Be sure to check out my Sexcoin 'Feature Story' (and coming banner ad) tomorrow on AltcoinPress.com (http://altcoinpress.com/)

Sunday Follow-up for the Week of 6/28/2015

Altcoin = Sexcoin (http://www.sexcoin.info/)
Ticker = SXC (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/sexcoin/)

Website = http://www.sexcoin.info/

http://puu.sh/iNTKd/96b1e95ca6.png

[Sunday Recap]

We had another strong week this week with SXC moving up 30% from 317 Satoshis on Tuesday to 451 Satoshis today. That's a solid gain of 29.7% and three straight weeks of winners for all you altcoin investors following this thread.

The great thing about this coin is how it has no obvious alt competitors in the multi-billion dollar adult market. Whereas cannabis themed currencies for example have a much greater level of competition (potcoin, cannabiscoin, dopecoin, maryjane, etc.) and a smaller target market. This lack of competition and the fact the currency is still priced as "dead" makes this an altcoin worth keeping on the radar.

Be sure to tune back in at the "same thread time, same thread channel" this Tuesday @ precisely 8:00PM (see thread OP for details), when I'll be releasing my FREE altcoin pick of the week for 7-05-15. Let's keep this perfect winning streak alive!

This week's pick promises to be my best pick ever!  :)

The 29.7% is a measurement of the market's movement (upward trajectory) not my personal gain. It's up to thread readers to pick their entry points and exit points. I'm still long SXC.

That was my suspicion  ::) . Telling noobs how much they can/could earn with your picks without some entry and exit points/Level (&SL),
is shady in my opinion, especially when you bought that coin before them. Its like a P&D for your own benefit only.
Without knowing entry,exit and stopploss, it is pointless to name percentages or how much in theory can be won
when the risk is not taken into acount!

Thanks for your opinion, but that's not the objective of this thread. Please see the OP.

This is an experiment to see how the markets react after a story is published on AltcoinPress.com. I have a theory that most altcoins are undervalued, so I try to find the ones that are, then publish my findings/reasons. These are all potential winners. I'm not writing about coins that I don't like, so it would be pointless to provide exit points. I'll be careful with my wording moving forward to ensure clarity.

Just to make sure there are no misunderstandings (which I think is already unlikely), I'll start including a big bold red disclaimer in my Tuesday 8:00EDT post when I announce my free weekly pick.

The point of this thread is literally to choose the altcoins that do bring some innovation to the masses of other shitcoins. That was literally what he said in the beginning and I like his picks so far. Maybe read a bit more next time before fudding around?

"anti ryan dumper"

yeah so microguy this is the base assumption.

and it looks like you are picking coins that

a) have been around the block ... no ico crap, just established known coins
b) you see some 'un-noticed' value  ... hence pick o the week

so far so good!

Microguy, do appreciate your research for viable coins to invest/trade in.

From my time investigating and trading in alt coins, here is some wisdom I can forward to your readers:

-- try to trade in alt coins that have had fair distribution, i.e. no or little premine/instamine. Dont get caught on the losing end of pump and dump. Research the coins mining origins, read the coins announcement page, ask questions.

-- choose coins that have relatively high volume, that are actively traded. This is easy to do: just sort the coinmarketcap page by 24hr volume column. This is a much more valid criteria than the market cap, if you are looking to actively trade.

-- look at a coin's price chart for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year... does the coin show consistent up and down movement, rallies that were profitable within a reasonable time frame?  If so, you can trade on that coins historical data, because history repeats itself.

-- once you find coins with the above criteria, invest in them, looking for historical buy-in lows and wait and be patient. Wait for the coin to rise and take moderate profit. Don't be greedy, be happy with 10%, 20%, 30%...anything more is just greedy gravy.

-- repeat the trading with same or different alt coins

-- never keep coins in a trading exchange, keep them safe in your coin wallet.

-- while holding your profits to reinvest, try to save back to something non volatile...fiat, or if very short term, use bitcoin.

-- most importantly, never invest anything more than play money. You cannot emotionally be attached to trading funds, if you hope to profit.

Hope this helps some alt coin traders.  :)

H.

Well thank you!

There is so much trolling and shilling for coins on all the forum threads, its frustrating just to get some common sense advice.

Nice to have someone like Microguy try to sort some of the coins out for us.

I have been thinking of creating an Alt Coin Newsletter like Microguy...free of course, and unbiased.  Will be hanging out here for now and see what other good info can be gleaned.

Altcoin Pick of the Week for 7/05/2015

Altcoin = GoldCoin (http://www.gldcoin.com/)
Ticker = GLD (http://coinmarketcap.com/currencies/goldcoin/)
Price = 0.00001443 BTC

Website = http://www.gldcoin.com/

http://puu.sh/iQVgj/f7ead667c5.png

Basic Overview

(bonus: audio backing track (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=59qR4kRdhLE) for this post.)*

I had another coin selected for this week, but at the last minute decided that I would be remiss and derelict in my duty if I didn't award Goldcoin my Altcoin Pick of the Week. There's some very special news coming this week and this was my last opportunity to let thread readers in on the scoop.

Goldcoin's lead developer Akumaburn has been working day and night on a special project called "Golden River." Golden River is a brand new difficulty algorithm completely resistant to ASIC hashpower attacks and "strip mining". If all goes as planned, this update will be rolled out later this week.

Golden River development thread: >>> https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3156.msg14161#msg14161

When I browse the coinmarketcap contestants, I see dozens of lackluster clone coins ahead of this digital giant with a name that means "value" to billions. If this coin can attract a few new investors and become more team oriented, I feel this currency might reach the top ten before year's end.

If you're seeking a coin with an outstanding name and dedicated developer, I can't think of a better choice at the moment. Therefore, I must award Goldcoin (GLD) my Altcoin Pick of the Week!

Be sure to check out my super spectacular Goldcoin 'Feature Story' tomorrow on AltcoinPress.com (http://altcoinpress.com/)

Be sure to check out my super spectacular Goldcoin 'Feature Story' tomorrow on AltcoinPress.com (http://altcoinpress.com/)

[-- Yet another disclaimer under construction --]

Haha obviously Goldcoin then. :D Thanks for the summary. Didn't even know about the Golden River feature. Let's see what happens in a week then. :)

Golden river?  Should it not be a golden shower in stead?

Looks like an interesting pick, I might put some dust in to see what it will do!

Edit: So, I sent a little bit of coins to cryptsy, and then after I send I see a message saying that all things are on hold there, so this is a warning.  Good thing I only sent a little bit, I hope I dont lose it!

Sunday Follow-up for the Week of 6/28/2015

[Sunday Recap]

We had another winning week this week with GLD moving up from 1443 Satoshis on Tuesday to 1691 Satoshis today. That's a nice gain of nearly 15% and four straight weeks of winners for all you altcoin investors following this thread.

And there are lot's of exciting milestones around the corner for Goldcoin including a series of South African Goldcoin Conferences, a brand new Java client, and the rolling out of the new Golden River™ difficulty algorithm. If you're looking to invest in a currency that will appeal to both consumers and investors alike, it's not too late to get on board. Don't let this become another coin where you look back one day and kick yourself for not investing early. This coin is a real contender.

Be sure to tune back in at the "same thread time, same thread channel" this Tuesday @ precisely 8:00PM (see thread OP for details), when I'll be releasing my FREE altcoin pick of the week for 7-12-15. Let's keep this perfect winning streak alive!

This week's pick promises to deliver my fifth straight week of unbroken winners!  :)

Can you release your coin info a little earlier. It is 1am here in UK, past my bedtime  :o , maybe 2 hours earlier would be good for everyone.

Today's update from Goldcoin's (GLD) developer: https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3156.msg14189#msg14189

Q&A Thread: https://www.gldtalk.org/index.php?topic=3157.0

One day people will reflect back on these days and ask themselves why they didn't buy more Goldcoin. Of all the coins on coinmarketcap.com, this is the most undervalued. Welcome to all the new thread subscribers and I'll see you guys on Tuesday!

----

FINAL UPDATE!

You guys have been so amazing! I would like to thank all of you for participating in my Pick of the Week experiment. I've decided to discontinue this project and dedicate my energy on helping to progress the efforts of the Goldcoin (GLD) community.

Best of luck to each of you, and may all your Bitcoin dreams turn to Gold! :D
