What Is BitSeeds?
BitSeeds is a hybrid proof of work/proof of stake cryptocurrency network with the goal of raising money to assist the Rainforest Foundation (http://rainforestfoundation.org/bitseeds (http://rainforestfoundation.org/bitseeds-2)) in its mission of reforesting the planet. The custodial wallet owned by the Rainforest Foundation exists for the sole purpose of staking new BitSeeds each year to contribute to the Rainforest Foundation's mission and the success of the project.

The rate of deforestation is so enormous that in order to restore balance a disruption in traditional fund raising was needed. BitSeeds provides a cryptographic ledger with unique features specifically designed for not-for-profit organizations and driving merchant adoption. Ecosystem development is an ongoing process spearheaded by the BitSeeds Foundation.

Why Is the BitSeeds Project Necessary?
BitSeeds adds ecosystem-specific remittance rails for charitable donations and a blockchain robust enough to accommodate future development. Every commercial transaction conducted within the remittance rail has the value added benefit of a charitable tax deduction, beyond the normal cost savings of cryptocurrency adoption. Individuals are then incentivized to hold and stake BitSeeds in personal wallets not simply to support the network, but support the greater mission of the Rainforest Foundation to reforest the planet.

"The simple act of holding BitSeeds makes the world a better place because you are investing in the mission of the Rainforest Foundation to reforest the planet."

What Is The BitSeeds Foundation?
The BitSeeds Foundation is a not-for-profit entity registered in the state of Nevada. More information may be found at the BitSeeds website (http://BitSeeds.org (http://BitSeeds.org)).

Why Is BitSeeds Important?
Cryptocurrencies are a means to give people hope, and that is the primary use case of BitSeeds. Beyond the stated mission, the BitSeeds Foundation is committed to furthering the partnership of cryptocurrencies and charity and offers its network and support services to any charity that wishes to implement a safe and healthy digital currency into their fundraising efforts.

Why Not Use Another Currency?
While BitSeeds could not exist without blockchain technology, other networks may not suitable for most charity organizations.

What Makes BitSeeds Different?
While boasting a number of technological advances which make it superior to other currencies, BitSeeds has a real mission to guide its development and growth. The core mission of reforesting the planet always takes precedence over other concerns. Without distractions, the work of the Rainforest Foundation and the BitSeeds Foundation can continue with minimal outside risk.
Why Would Merchants Use BitSeeds?

Merchant adoption is driven through a custom remittance system being developed by Coin.co (http://coin.co (http://coin.co)). 1.25% of every transaction processed will be sent to the BitSeeds Custody Address. Merchants will be presented with a yearly accounting and requisite paperwork for tax purposes.

Every transaction completed through this process is a charitable tax deduction for the accepting merchant and a great incentive for adoption that goes beyond the usual savings of cryptocurrencies compared to credit cards.

How Do You Plan To Plant 1,000,000,000 Trees?
That's the best part about BitSeeds: all of the necessary experience, expertise, ingenuity, and infrastructure are already there! It's all built and ready. All the Rainforest Foundation needs is funding from the public to expand 30+ year old reforestation operations to levels never seen before. BitSeeds will provide jobs, infrastructure, and raise the standards of living for the poorest in the world. This project is already in motion. BitSeeds makes more of it happen, faster.

To make this initiative possible, each year BitSeeds will yield 10% interest to each person who holds the currency. At the launch of the currency, 100 million BitSeeds were set aside in a special wallet owned by the Rainforest Foundation that will generate interest through staking. The yearly interest income the Rainforest Foundation receives will enable them to help local communities conserve and restore forests on a scale never before possible.

With a traditional donation to a charity, a person gets something symbolic but not very useful like a tote bag or a mug as a thanks for their donation; starting soon when someone donates to the Rainforest Foundation they will receive a gift card loaded with BitSeeds, allowing them to turn around and spend some or all of the money they just donated, while still knowing they're helping the Rainforest Foundation's mission and enjoying the benefits of a tax deduction!

From the Rainforest Foundation, founding member of the BitSeeds Foundation:
“Immediately slowing or stopping the alarming rate of rainforest destruction is vital to society’s health and well-being. So we asked ourselves: how can we leverage more resources to support what we know are effective solutions? The scale of funding needed to halt or reverse rainforest destruction is so large that we can't just do what we've always done to raise funds. We need innovation. We need disruption.”
-Suzanne Pelletier, Executive Director of Rainforest Foundation US and founding member of the BitSeeds Foundation

Wait, is this a new coin or takeover?

It's actually neither.  The original dev parted ways some time ago, I was mining it and interested in the project from the first day but then ended up getting involved directly in the project after the dev left.

It's pretty much all there to see in the old thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1028446.new#new) but since the thread was posted by an account controlled by the old dev, we can't update the OP.

Figured it was time for a new thread.

Yeah, guys it's stuck for me at the same spot right after I opened the new thread. It was like I jinxed it by posting or something. The network has been moving pretty smoothly for months now, but has had occasional pauses like this where the wallets that are staking don't have mature enough coins to keep the network moving.

I'm currently rotating between wallets to find the one with the most mature coins so we get past this little logjam, but anyone who has a wallet with mature coins should open it and stake to help get us past the stuck point. Only 30 more blocks after that to the point where we'll have mining to keep things working.

UPDATE:  I loaded a different wallet and it just staked block 8770, so just 30 more to go.  It's 1:23pm here as I type this and I'll be working here all day with my eye on things to keep it moving smoothly.

Yeah I noticed the move on the chain. My miner is standing by as we speak, can't wait to see some more movement on this. I haven't seen any of the giveaway coins to my wallet but Ill make up for it by mining.

I just got caught up with sending out BitSeeds to the commenters who left their addresses in the last 15 hours, and I already sent all the ones before that, so if you were one of the people who posted their address at any point then you should just need to wait for confirmations.

Note to everyone participating in the giveaway:  please leave a comment, not just a payment address! YouTube is misinterpreting comments that only have a BitSeeds address as spam, which isn't surprising.

Please also like the videos - this is not required for the giveaway, but the whole point of this is to help spread the word about BitSeeds and the mission of the Rainforest Foundation and viewing videos without liking them (or just leaving a payment address they view as spam without even watching) works against this.

We're now on block 8802, so the network should start accepting proof of work blocks now. Ready for the pools to come online.

I know it's the middle of the night for at least one pool owner, but I've PMed all three to let them know they should be able to activate the pools.

Are you trying to solo mine?

OK. iSpace is getting a "Block decode failed" error. Is that what you're seeing? Copying and pasting the entire error would help so I can pass the exact info along to everyone.

Update:
I've been doing a little research on the error including here on Bitcointalk and a few alts have had a one or two people report the problem, but in all the cases I found everyone else seemed to be mining without problems.

It's past 2am here so I'm going to wait and see how it goes with the other two pools and hear back from a couple of people and will post an update then.

We're also continuing with the next video in the series, so I'll also be posting the link here in about 10-12 hours.

who is mining without a problem? those people cant have much of a mining power when the diff is 0 and noone is finding blocks.
I im mining solo and has always been working on other coins, so there is something wrong here.

I didn't say that other people were mining BitSeeds successfully, I said that the only people I could find reporting the error message "Block decode failed" were isolated individuals and everyone else attempting to mine were not having a problem.

Please copy and paste the exact text you're getting like I asked in a reply here or PM me - use Pastebin if the relevant info is anything really long.  There's no way to solve your problem if you don't give specific details and if I can see the actual error messages or logs then it gives us something to go on.

It's almost 3am here so I will check back for your response in several hours and we'll also see what happens with the two MPOS pools, etc.

I've passed them on to the dev and updated him with the info that @ob1100 and the other MPOS pool op are having the same problem.  I apologize for the hassle; this is very frustrating for me since I've put a lot into this over the last few months and the last thing I wanted to see was problems with the mining relaunch.

I'll be posting the next video in a little bit and will update with more info with whatever progress we make now that we have some more detail to go on.

Miningpools.tk has been unable to get pool to start working I get found blocks but same errors as prev posts. I  will keep trying to get it working. If anyone else figures it out please post here.

One of the other pool operators has a lead on the problem which I've passed along to the dev. I'll also post it here in case it tells you anything, ob1100:

Quote
I don't see any 'lazy' references in the source tree -- so someone was very careful in source creation.
This error is related to the submitblock function in rpcmining.cpp 503-527

I wish my C skills were a little more refined... but my best guess is that the submitted block cannot be matched up with the last mined block.

Here is the latest video in the series - this one covers using the transactions tab of the wallet:

Sorry this is taking a while, unfortunately we're dealing with three different people including myself in three different time zones. Downsides of a decentralized system I guess.

It seems that somebody was able to mine four blocks at 8806-8810, looking at the explorer.  I have some suggestions from the dev that I just PMed you and ob1100 to try.

Yeah, seriously - I see more connections live in the BitSeeds wallet than I think I've ever seen in any other altcoin (and more than I can remember even seeing in Bitcoin QT or Core!)

Here's the latest video tutorial, this lesson teaches you about the address book in the wallet app:

Not yet, unfortunately. The original dev left more complications in the code than we realized. We're working out the best way to proceed and I'll post more specific details when I can.

That's explained in the OP. The custodial funds exist for the sole purpose of periodically staking coins to help fund the Rainforest Foundation and they will never be spent or put on the market.

Don't put us on the cart yet!

I apologize for being slow updating the thread. I had been hoping to be able to post details of the fix and was holding off posting until I had good news, while I should have just gone ahead and been more specific.

This is what's going on:

We hired a dev to restore POW and he didn't review the history of commits very carefully (or at all as far as I can tell) and he implemented a fix that was not even close to what was needed. I can read code and have some knowledge in this area and when I reviewed those commits weeks ago it was clear to me that the original dev had done a relaunch back in early May and if the new guy had reviewed the code, it should've been clear that the situation the original dev left was more complicated than the fix the newer guy implemented.

Gabe and I had wanted a clean relaunch with new codebase but the guy we hired said he could get it fixed without that, and since we want a solution that guarantees you guys the least hassle to be able to keep your coins, we said go ahead.  I should have double-checked that he had actually done his due diligence and reviewed the code carefully before deciding how to proceed.

Since the point where POW was supposed to kick in, I contacted him about the problem and he swore up and down that it worked despite 3 pools and at least two solo miners showing evidence to the contrary.  I went around and around with him for days and it became clear he had never reviewed the changes in the code and had done an "easy fix" that might have worked in different circumstances.

Gabe has been talking to him after I got to a dead end with him and he has quoted us for doing a full relaunch, but has been insisting on using X11 instead of SHA, which is not what we need for the project for a few reasons.  I think Gabe is checking again with him to see if he'll actually do it as we need it done, and in the mean time I've been talking to some other devs.

I've had one person who said much the same thing - he can do it but only if it's X11, I'm waiting to hear back from someone I contacted yesterday, and I just received a PM today from someone who heard we were looking for a new dev and he looks promising but I'm still reviewing his posts, etc. before getting back to him tonight or tomorrow afternoon.

We also have some other options we're looking at, but the bottom line is we've hit a speedbump, not the end of the road.

This is the tradeoff - PND coins can get some cut and paste dev fairly easily, but this project is to build something legitimate that will exist and serve a real purpose for a long time, so it's much harder to find someone who is skilled AND can be relied on to do professional work.

Oh. Looks like I forgot to update the giveaway post right under the OP with the newer videos I've released. I'll update that later when I have a few minutes to add all the links together in one place.  I also have released one new video that I haven't linked to here yet.

On that topic, because of the mining issues we're pushing back the drawing for a bit so you still have time to post payment addresses in YouTube comments on the videos.  I have an email newsletter of over 25,000 people who I have been holding off emailing about the giveaway and course and I want to give them a chance to get in on the giveaway once we get the update issues taken care of, so we're going to extend it for that reason too.

I still have a couple more video tutorials left to release - I've been spacing them out instead of doing them daily - so I'll be posting them in time. If the update adds any extra steps like having to delete your copy of the blockchain and resync, I will be recording new video to cover those steps so everyone is taken care of.

So, that's where we are right now. Hopefully that's enough transparency for you.

Sorry to hear about the problems with the mining, that's a bummer.  I'm glad that you are still trying to make this coin continue, though!  Have you reached out to Bittrex to try to prevent the delisting?  That would be a major blow for a coin that needs some patience...

Thanks for being understanding. Not thrilled about it, but sometimes you have to work hard to make things happen. Gabe and I are not going to just give up on it.

Bittrex seems to have removed the delisting warning, probably due to the 17th when we had about 1.13 BTC of volume in one day. No idea who that was; guess someone got impatient or had some bills to pay.

Anyway, been talking to one of the two potential devs I mentioned upthread and he's poking through the code and taking a more detailed look at exactly what's going on before we get down to brass tacks.  Will update here when I've got some more info for you guys.

In discussions with a couple of potential devs for the update, and it looks like we're zeroing in one someone.

In the mean time, here is a new video tutorial:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CyCbEeYDk1g

This one covers why it's important to use unique payment (receive) addresses when using BitSeeds or any crypto.

My budget is a little tight right now but I'm trying to budget a little to buy more BitSeeds in the Bittrex market since they're threatening to delist it.  Whomever is selling there has dropped their price way down, so anyone who was looking for a good entry point might want to take the opportunity and help get a little more volume happening.

Thanks, Delong. Certainly appreciate your patience and support!

That is exactly what we're planning - new codebase, and right now we're in talks with two potentials and working out the best way to let everyone keep their wallet.dat files and balances or, worst case, doing a swap.

We're also weighing adding in a few other features Gabe and I've talked about before while we have the hood up, so to speak.

If anyone has any good devs they can recommend, please PM me - we have two guys we're talking to, but it can't hurt to have more potential candidates.

On the Bittrex front, I bought some more yesterday, but looks like we've had a little over 1 BTC in volume today so we should be good. Gabe also got in touch with them to make sure they understood we just needed a little more time to get things moving forward smoothly.

Will keep you guys posted!

Great news, guys. Last week Gabe spoke with Bill at Bittrex to make sure they wouldn't delist BitSeeds. It turns out the only person anyone at Bittrex had ever had any contact with was our illustrious original dev, who hadn't left a very favorable impression.

Gabe explained everything that was going on and Bill has made sure that we will stay listed on the exchange, and he talked with Julian Yap of Jumbucks who contacted me and put me in touch with Luke, one of the Jumbucks core devs.

Luke, who also has an account here on BCT as Xocel and who also goes by Iquidus, is now going to be our official dev.  He's a very experienced and hard working dev who is going to get us relaunched with POW thoroughly tested and working, and will be working with Bittrex to do a coin swap.

Luke is finishing up a project right now that will take him another week or two and then he's going to be focused on getting this project back in full swing.  We'll give you a more definite date when we're a little closer, but we're looking at early December as the relaunch date.  Luke likes to test everything thoroughly before releasing code, so we can be confident everything will work right.

The schedule for mining will be for the long term - literally about 99 years - with a very gradual decrease of the block reward, so no instamine or any similar gimmicks that are so played out in the crypto sphere these days.  Once we have that back in place we'll be able to move ahead with Coin.co our service provider who will be enabling merchants to accept BitSeeds as payment while earning charitable donation tax credits, and the Rainforest Foundation will be using press releases and their huge media reach to get the word out about BitSeeds to the world outside our small Bitcoin and altcoin market.

I'm really happy to be working with someone of Luke's caliber and very excited at what the project will be bringing in December and as we head into 2016.

Good news on this one - glad the stink of the original dev is no longer associated with XSEED in the eyes of Bittrex.  Nice work making sure that XSEED will stick around on the exchange, too - I think that's pretty important.

Well, credit goes to Bill and Julian for getting Luke in touch with me - all I did was tell him more about the project and what we were hoping to accomplish.

Gabe started the project and I joined much later, but we've both put a lot into it and hope to see it succeed. Our hopes are grounded in a great concept and the execution that is possible with our partnership with the Rainforest Foundation.

Mining will definitely help get more current cryptocurrency people involved, but the big effect will happen once the RF really starts getting the word out there via press releases and other media. Can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Definitely appreciate your support during the wilderness months, Delong.  :)

If you're using Linux you can compile using the official repository here:

https://github.com/BitSeedsOrg/Bitseeds

or if you're using Windows or Mac OS X you can use the download links further down that same page or in the OP.

The swap will likely happen in December, but I'll be updating the thread here, on Cryptocointalk, and on my Twitter account periodically as we have a more defined timeline.

In the mean time, keep on staking.

Now I have to decide if I'm going to move it to my local wallet to stake it for the next ~ month until we do the coin swap, or leave it on Bittrex...

Bill has told me on the Jumbucks Slack that he will make sure it stays listed (he also told Luke that they could handle the swap for us if I haven't mentioned that) and I just checked it and the warning has disappeared.  I think the warning must get turned on automatically and then they have to manually disable it.

So, should be fine.

Hm. Looks like someone's been accumulating.

So I assume there were some events lined up that you would have interjected or showcased XSEED at Rainforest events. Since the network was unusable for this time, are you waiting until a working version is running to begin new plans? or are these yearly events which would require waiting until next year to bring up XSEED at events again?

Gabe is the better person to give specifics about the Rainforest Foundation plans, but I know press releases are a starting point, and I believe there will be further auctions (one has happened so far when an investor/donor made a winning bid of, I believe, $0.70 per coin).

There will be gift cards available about a month after the relaunch that supporters will be able to get from the RF in exchange for a donation (similar to a premium item you get when donating to many charities) which will come loaded with XSEED and which can be literally planted to grow a tree (each card will have a tree seed in it!).

Coin.co merchant services which will provide stores with a charitable tax writeoff for accepting BitSeeds is slated for about two months after relaunch, and there are further plans beyond that we'll be talking more about in the future.  But it will become a regular and important part of how the RF raises funds going forward.

Oh yeah, and I still have plans to promote the project to my own newsletter of over 25,000 computer training students after we've done the coin swap.

A point of clarification: the network is working just fine and has been since I took over stewarding it in early June.

It has occasional slowdowns where a block isn't generated for a few hours, but those are rare these days. The relaunch is to get clean codebase that restores POW since the original dev messed that up pretty thoroughly, and to add some more features that will work towards some of our future plans.

It was best to wait until we knew everything was working after the relaunch before starting any large-scale promotions or moving forward with things on a global scale because we want to keep things simple for people - especially keeping in mind the real intended audience is the world outside of our still pretty parochial cryptocurrency community!

Hope that makes sense.

So I assume there were some events lined up that you would have interjected or showcased XSEED at Rainforest events. Since the network was unusable for this time, are you waiting until a working version is running to begin new plans? or are these yearly events which would require waiting until next year to bring up XSEED at events again?

I have tried to synchronized my wallet but without success. Is there a good list with working nodes?

Are you sure you weren't able to sync? Like many altcoin wallets, ours will sync fully but if there happens to have been a delay before the next block is found it will look like it's still syncing even though it's fully caught up.

You can check if you are caught up to the current block by mousing over the "syncing" animation or checkmark in the lower left corner and waiting for the tool tip to appear, then compare the number to the most recent block on the explorer here: http://explore.cryptolife.net/bitseeds/

I'm currently seeing 11 connections, am fully caught up, and am not using a .conf file, just the hard-coded nodes.

Let me know if that helps.

Been about a week and I want to post periodic reminders that we're planning a coin swap in December through Bittrex exchange. We don't have an exact date yet, but will update here, on Cryptocointalk, and on Twitter as we figure that out.

Also, here is a link to a playlist with all of the BitSeeds tutorial videos on YouTube for those who may have missed it:

No, we will be restoring the original POW algo and mining schedule - the only difference relating to mining will be that we are going to advance the original schedule to approximately where it would have been by this point by starting the block reward at 10 XSEED per block with very steady and gradual reduction of 0.0025 BitSeeds per block every 90 days for 400 reductions, or about 99 years.

No big rush to mine "carpe diem" style big blocks that drop rapidly in reward, nor Bitcoin-style big periodic halvings; just slow and steady POW for the long haul. POS will remain unchanged at 10% per year with a minimum stake age of 24 hours.

We have a few other newer features we'll be adding as well looking towards future plans which we'll discuss more a little further down the road. Some of the changes won't really make any difference or really be active at this time, but we figured we'd try to make any substantial changes now while we have the hood up, so to speak, to avoid major forks as much as possible in the future when we're ready to implement those plans.

Any updates on the coin swap?

Our developer Luke/Xocel has been swamped with work on 2-3 projects including prep for the BitSeeds update and is behind schedule but making progress. I just spoke with him a few minutes ago and he doesn't want to give an exact date in case he's not able to meet it, but he said things will definitely be ready in January.

I'd rather have this take a little longer and be done right than rushed and not go smoothly, so I'm good with this.

any nodes? got to 8k and now no sync.

I've had people occasionally say they weren't syncing when they actually were - like many altcoins, if there has been a little while since the last block was found it will look like it's trying to catch up (spinning animation instead of a check mark in the corner of the window) and give the impression it's not syncing when it's actually caught up.

What block are you on now if you mouse over the "syncing" animation or the check mark? I'm seeing block 16,371 at the moment.

Not sure what your aggressive reply is meant to achieve. I simply stated two facts:

1. Solid123345 stongly supported Urocoin. He presented false information to try and claim Urocoin was legit, which helped innocent people to lose money.

2. Urocoin has proven to be a scam, even though many people provided ample warning that it was a scam.

Sorry for the slow response. I missed the new posts to the thread over the holidays.  I didn't realize you were using Linux, but you didn't answer the question about which block you got to. Are you still stuck?

If you meant block 8,000 I think that's where the current version (1.2) took over so is it possible you've compiled the old 1.1 (May) release? Just asking since it would seem to fit the problem you're describing.
The official Github is:

What OS are you using and what is the highest block you've downloaded?  (See above)  The official addnodes are all built into the wallet and the node list will be changing a little later this month when we do the relaunch.

hi mate just a question xseed has a proper and professional developer or is a occasional coder?

Hi Docker,
 Yes, our developer is a New Zealand based professional named Luke Williams who also goes by Xocel. He created the Iquidus explorer and is one of the core devs for Jumbucks.

He has some more info about himself on his site: http://iquidus.io/

Keep in mind the original dev left in May and we had a temporary interim dev provide a smaller update back in October, before Luke came onboard in mid November. So the current version was made by the temporary dev (who I think is more of an occasional coder) but it will be replaced with version 2.0 with entirely new codebase a little later this month.

Hope that helps and let me know if you have any other questions about the project.

The current supply is 6,107,073 excluding the custodial wallet belonging to the Rainforest Foundation that is used only for staking coins to fund the Foundation and the project.

Quick Jan 17th update:  spoke with Luke (our dev) night before last and while we're still holding off on announcing a specific date for the relaunch, we are still looking at sometime this month.

I've also been keeping an eye on the whole Bitcoin scalability debate that's been raging for a while now and discussed it with Luke and we're going to go with a 4MB block size limit instead of the 2MB one originally planned for the relaunch (already increased from the current size) and we're also looking at incorporating a couple of the newer BIPs (Bitcoin Improvement Proposals) to add to the scalability and security of BitSeeds.

The idea is to be as proactive about these things as possible and structure things to avoid messy hard forks down the road. We can expect to gain a much larger user base after the Rainforest Foundation really begins promoting the project and the next pieces like the gift cards and merchant services through coin.co come online later in Q1 of 2016, so it makes sense to plan for these events in advance.

Will keep you guys posted as we get closer to the relaunch.

Nice to future proof things now and it will also give Bitseeds an edge that Bitcoin doesn't have. What BIPs in particular if you don't mind sharing?

I mined BitSeeds at launch last year and am having trouble firing up a wallet. I built from source and am not getting any connections.

Could somebody please provide a node list?

Anybody running a connected client can run the "getpeerinfo" command then paste the results here. Just enter this command into the debug console.

Thanks. I see this question has been asked before and not answered, so this would be a big help.

I'm trying to avoid posting node info in the thread because I know at least two of the IP addresses will not be correct for the new version and I don't want anyone coming in here later and accidentally using out of date info.  I just PMed Garth with the info - anyone else who is having trouble connecting please PM me and I'll send the info to you, too.

Our developer Luke is currently in Spain speaking at a tech conference, but is very close to ready for the BitSeeds 2.0 relaunch with fresh codebase, reinstated PoW, plus new features. Make sure you open and stake your wallets in the meantime and be ready for the coin swap which I'll be posting details about once they're finalized and the date is set.

Remember you can download the current 1.2 for Mac and Windows here:
https://github.com/BitSeedsOrg/Bitseeds#download-bitseeds

or if you're compiling yourself, make sure you do so from the official repository:
https://github.com/BitSeedsOrg/Bitseeds

It seems that people who were having trouble syncing were compiling from the old repository from the original thread, but we were locked out of that by the original dev so it should not be used. Only use the official repository I'm linking to here and in the OP.

Hi, I have some questions.

Who controls the 100m BitSeeds that were originally for the foundation? If they are with you now how did you come to control them (and not the original thread)? If you do control them would you consider burning some? A premine of 100m for a coin with a current supply of 6m seems frankly insane.

What is distribution like? You said in the op in September that a fully functioning block explorer with a rich list would be coming shortly. Is it available now?

Sorry if the information is elsewhere and i missed it. Thanks.

Hi Orson, I'm happy to answer questions. Most of what you're asking is elsewhere in the thread but I can't blame you for not wanting to read through pages of posts since I've done that before with other coins.

The custodial funds are still owned by the foundation and the project is still being run by Gabe Aaronovitch, who started the project and forged the relationship with the Rainforest Foundation.  The difference is that the original dev that was hired to do the tech work decided, for reasons I still don't understand, to attempt to destroy the project.

I was not a part of the project originally, but had offered to volunteer some of my time on the project before the dev went AWOL and tried to "burn the forest down" so to speak. Gabe and I ended up talking on the phone a bit as I tried to help out, and I ended up officially part of the project and now basically am the public face of it.  I posted this new thread a while back because we don't have access to the account used to create the first thread anymore - I think the account was handled by the original dev but I'd have to double check that with Gabe.

The private keys for all project funds were retained by Gabe and we've moved the funds to new wallets to secure them from any potential sabotage from the first dev, and to stake some smaller ones in rotation to keep the network working as smoothly as possible until we get mining back with our new codebase.

The size of the custodial account was decided upon before the project originally launched in April 2014 in discussions with the RF and it is only used to stake and generate (staked) funding for the project and the RF, so burning part of those funds is not too likely as it would lower the planned funding for the Rainforest Foundation's mission.

We will be having an Iquidus explorer which will include a rich list starting with the relaunch with the new codebase. We had planned this for September but unfortunately this was based on the work we were expecting from a replacement dev we hired who... let's just say he didn't produce the promised results, so we fired him.

Since the tale end of last year, we are now working with Luke Williams, the guy who created the Iquidus explorer we were (and still are) planning to use. He's a developer with 10 years of experience and is one of the core devs for Jumbucks.  We are waiting right now for him to finish up the prep work for the 2.0 relaunch which should be happening very soon.

You'll be able to check the distribution more completely then (I've been wanting to see a rich list myself for some time now) but in the mean time you can check the distribution tab on the XSEED market page on Bittrex to see everything being held on the exchange.

Let me know if you have any other questions and thanks for your interest.

It's a nice idea with the rainforest charity, but isn't the SHA256 mining itself bad for the environment?

Good question, but compared to what? To not mining, or to other POW algorithms?

If you compare SHA256 to other mining algos, it's one of the more efficient ones in widespread use, and has the most developed ASICs which means much lower power usage per hash than say Scrypt ASICs, and certainly lower than most or all GPU mining. Being the same algo as Bitcoin also means that hardware like the 21.co miners will be compatible and it will enjoy the largest base of future small, low-powered efficient mining hardware.

There's also the question of the power source for the mining device - if it's solar, for example, running the device adds no direct environmental cost.

Ultimately, a major part of the reason for the selection of SHA-256 is it's a requirement of our payment processor coin.co who will be giving merchants the ability to accept payments in BitSeeds while receiving a charitable tax deduction.

Hope that makes sense, and let me know if you have any other questions or feedback.

Thanks a lot for the detailed response worth. I'll be keeping an eye on the thread and will look out for that explorer. Best of luck to you!

Sorry for the slow updates, guys. Our developer Luke was hired by a company in Spain and he's in the process of getting a visa to help him move from his home in New Zealand to Spain. This and his work on Jumbucks put him way behind his originally planned schedule and unfortunately for a while he also wasn't keeping us updated on what was going on so we couldn't update the thread here.

He's apologized for the delays and said he'll be giving us a hard deadline he can meet in the next couple of days. Once he's done so I'll post the info here.

Update: Luke will be returning to NZ on the 24th and will finish things up for the relaunch then. He needs to sit down and go back over the code before giving a hard ETA, but sounds like he's already got most of it done and there's not a lot left for him to do so it won't take long.

Yes, I don't have any mining devices anymore since I live in a place with the most expensive electricity in the US, but I have had some funds on MiningRigRentals for a while now and am looking forward to mining XSEED again.

FYI, blockchain got a little stuck yesterday and into today, but I just got it moving again.

While the chain has been frequently a little slow, actually stalling out for an extended time like that has been really rare since last summer. As mentioned upthread, Luke will be giving us an ETA for the remainder of the work he needs to do before the relaunch and coin swap. Once we have POW reintroduced these slow blockchain issues will be a thing of the past since mining seems to work a lot better at keeping the network moving smoothly.

We're in the home stretch here, so in the mean time, please remember to open and stake your wallet to help get us there smoothly!

Lol when you come here hoping for news and updates, and instead you see the thread is actually shrinking and the
last comments have disappeared  ::)

This is actually a cool project, but Its been so long and dragged out waiting for anything to happen with it,
its hard to keep interest in it. It is a shame. However, I still hope it still goes ahead and fulfills its plans.  :)

Yeah, when I signed in I was notified one of my posts was deleted by a moderator with no explanation as to why. I also see that the message I'd quoted and responded to was also deleted so maybe it had something to do with Cryptodatabase's post...? Not sure if any other messages were deleted or again why.  ???

Funny you should mention that...  :)

Today happens to be the 1-year anniversary of the original launch for BitSeeds.  Wanted to post this sooner, but while we have a couple more details to work out it looks like we should be ready to go a little later this week.

Unlike what we were thinking a while back, most likely we will not have to send all our funds into Bittrex for a swap, but should be able to import our existing wallet.dat files. Either way, I will be recording a video with step-by-step instructions for both Windows users and one for Mac users to make sure everyone is able to make the transition to the new codebase smoothly.

We're going to be doing some private testing of mining and the new wallets before releasing them publicly to make sure everything goes without issues this time. To keep things fair we'll have an initial 0 reward per block during testing, then switch to 0.025 XSEED per block for a few days as we open up to the general public, before resuming 10 full XSEED per block to make sure nobody feels left out if they don't read the forums every day.

Will be back with more details later this week!

OK everyone, so here's what we're looking at for our timeline:

We'll be getting copies of the new codebase and wallets in a few days which we will not be posting immediately.  We're going to do some mining tests on a private pool -- testing with zero reward blocks -- and we'll be sharing the code with Bittrex so they can do their standard code review and prep for the new version.

We'll wait a bit to make sure everyone has had a chance to learn that the swap is coming up (please make sure to share this on Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, etc. so people know it's coming) and then at 4PM GMT Thursday the 28th we will be taking a snapshot of all wallet balances from the old chain.

See http://www.timebie.com/std/gmt.php?q=16  to check what time this is in your local time zone.

Within 24 hours after that, your balances will be available to you again on the new chain and once we've verified everything is working smoothly we'll release the new wallets and source to the public along with a new pair of video lessons - one for Windows, one for Mac - showing the steps to follow to upgrade and recover your existing funds.

Assuming everything has been going smoothly at this point we will then open up public mining with a brief period of extremely low POW reward before reverting to 10 full XSEED per block and the original planned gradual reward reduction schedule of 0.025 XSEED reduction every 90 days over the next ~99 years.  The initial low reward will give everyone a chance to start mining without being penalized for not being one of the first people to mine.

Let me know if you have any questions and please RT any tweets about this from @BitSeeds and share it elsewhere to make sure everyone is prepared. I'm excited, how about you guys?

Great news, thanks worth for the perseverance!  I'm excited for the relaunch, and the reward being set at 10 seems fair and shouldn't punish the original miners, which is great to hear.  Thanks again to you and xocel for persistence in what was surely a frustrating process.  Hopefully all will go smoothly at relaunch and $XSEED will flourish without the taint of the original launch and dev.  Keep us posted!

Thanks for the support, guys!  It's been a long haul, but we're finally about there. Once we've all upgraded to the new version then we can start seeing progress on all the other parts of the BitSeeds project that have been on hold for the past year.

We've got the special gift cards the Rainforest Foundation will be loading with BitSeeds in exchange for donations coming in about a month. About another month after that, our payment processor coin.co will begin allowing merchants to accept BitSeeds while getting a charitable tax deduction as that extra incentive over the typical fee savings of regular cryptos.

There will also be press coverage of the project plus we'll start seeing the Rainforest Foundation itself making BitSeeds an important part of its fundraising efforts which will get it in the hands of their donors.  We also have plans for mobile wallets and other stuff we'll be announcing as things move along.

Still looking good for Thursday snapshot of everyone's funds, with a Friday release of the new wallets (in the evening most likely). Will keep you posted as the week progresses.

OK, so we've got our source code and I've passed it along to Bittrex to prep for the update and to our private pool owner who will be letting us throw some hashing power at it to check everything is going smoothly.

Just to reiterate, we will be test mining with zero block reward initially. As you can see from the code below, to be on the safe side we've given ourselves ~1 week worth of zero reward mining, followed by ~1 week (assuming 5 minute block times or 2016 blocks per week) of the reduced 0.025 XSEED blocks, then back to 10 and the originally planned gradual reduction.

Code:
// miner's coin base reward based on nBits
int64_t GetProofOfWorkReward(unsigned int nBits, int64_t nFees, int nHeight)
{
    int64_t nSubsidy = 0 * COIN;

if (nHeight == 1)
return 112000000 * COIN;
else if (nHeight <= 2016)
nSubsidy = 0 * COIN;
else if (nHeight > 2016 && nHeight <= 4032)
nSubsidy = 0.025 * COIN;
else if (nHeight > 4032)
nSubsidy = 10 * COIN;

int nReductionFactor = nHeight / 25920;

nSubsidy = nSubsidy - ((COIN * 0.025) * nReductionFactor);

if (nSubsidy < 0)
nSubsidy = 0;

    if (fDebug && GetBoolArg("-printcreation"))
        printf("GetProofOfWorkReward() : create=%s nBits=0x%08x nSubsidy=%" PRId64 "\n", FormatMoney(nSubsidy).c_str(), nBits, nSubsidy);

    return nSubsidy + nFees;
}

The premine you see in the code above is what will be used to recreate the custodial staking funds for the Rainforest Foundation and to reallocate funds to all current BitSeeds owners.  We rounded up a little to make sure we had enough, so the plan is to burn any extra coins that we may end up with after funds are sent to everyone.

Update: Mining is going smoothly so far. One change is it looks like we're going to hold off a day or two before taking a snapshot of everyone's balances. We're doing this to better coordinate with Bittrex since we weren't able to get the source to them earlier in the week when we'd originally hoped.

So that also means the release of the new wallets will be bumped back to the beginning of next week, which I guess is cool because it gives me more time to get the needed tutorials recorded, edited, and published.  :)

OK guys, it turns out Bittrex was in the middle of a big project so they couldn't deal with the update on Friday so we delayed things so we could coordinate. We now have Monday May 2nd at 4PM GMT as the time for the snapshot of funds, and the funds should become available on the new chain within 24 hours.  Until that point, Bittrex has disabled deposits and withdrawals of XSEED to prevent anyone from accidentally losing funds.

Once the funds are available on the new chain and I've verified the import process is working smoothly, I'll release the new source and the compiled wallets for Windows and Mac and Bittrex will update.  I'll include instructions here, but will also record a video for Mac and a video for Windows users to help people import their old wallet.dat files.

I've been mining on a private pool for the last few days without problems and people will be able to start mining as well of course once the wallets are available, but keep in mind that we have zero reward blocks until block 2017, and reduced 0.025 reward blocks for the next ~ week (2016 more blocks).

Again, snapshot of balances is happening again at 4PM GMT Monday the 2nd, here is a link to check what that is in your time zone:

OK, so the snapshot of balances happened earlier today on block 28553. Have just received the Windows wallet and am waiting on the OS X client. I'm going to import the balance from a test wallet shortly and record a video on the process for Windows users and will do the same for Mac users once I get the wallet.

In the mean time, here's a sneak preview of the v2.0 wallet - I think my redesign came out pretty well:

OK, I've updated Github with the new source and you can download the compiled wallet there as well:

https://github.com/BitSeedsOrg/Bitseeds#download-bitseeds

We're still waiting on the Mac wallet, but should have it in the next 24 hours or so.

Windows users, download the .zip file and extract the contents into a folder of your choice. Run it and let it sync, then exit and either delete or rename the brand new wallet.dat file from the BitSeeds-New folder in your Appdata/Roaming folder, then copy your original wallet.dat over from the old folder and run the one-time batch file.

Linux users compiling your own, you'll launch & sync, then move your wallet.dat as above and run bitseeds-qt -salvagewallet to recover the funds.

Any platform, if you have an encrypted wallet.dat file it will give you an error message and you'll need to follow some more complicated steps; there is a video on the way for this, too.

There is a readme file with more detailed instructions in the zip file and again, two video tutorials on the way.

Proof of Work is still running smoothly mining zero blocks for another 2 days or so. We have one pool already which will be made public before block 2017 when zero block rewards ends, and I'm sure others will join in as well.  If you have a favorite pool, ask them to add BitSeeds!

Will be back as soon as I have the Mac client ready and the videos for you guys who need them.

Thanks, the wallet redesign was my work. The plan is to have an Iquidus-based explorer soon including a rich list. I just emailed the dev about it a few minutes ago, actually.

For anyone waiting on the Mac client, I just got it and I need to test it and then record the video on the migration process for Mac users, add the written instructions and an Automator script to help with the import process, then bundle it up in a .dmg file and make it available for download.  I'll be back with that in a few hours.

I've updated the OP with the current download link for Windows and I added the Mac download.

If you downloaded an earlier version of the Windows client and haven't imported your old funds yet, please re-download the zip file as I've improved the instructions and the bat file and made the process much easier for people with encrypted wallet.dat files!

You can also find both of the downloads via our git: https://github.com/BitSeedsOrg/Bitseeds#download-bitseeds

I've got the tutorial videos recorded and edited but still need to export and upload them, which I may not do until tomorrow since it's almost midnight Tuesday here and I just noticed I haven't eaten dinner.  :D

Oh, also, Richie has updated the wallet at Bittrex, so you can withdraw and deposit funds again - just make sure to only do it with the new BitSeeds 2.0!

We have our first pool. You can point your SHA256 rigs at

stratum+tcp://wmikrut.com:4046

use your wallet address as the worker name and anything for the password.

wmikrut.com has stats for BitSeeds and all other coins on the pool.

Remember, blocks are zero reward until 2017 and we are on block 1820 as I type this, so we're roughly a day away.

Please post an update letting me know you've upgraded successfully - not anticipating any issues, especially since simplifying the upgrade process yesterday, but I'd like to know how it's going for people.  Let me know!

Awesome work man, very easy process to update, new wallet is really nice too.

Looking forward to future updates and seeing this incorporated with the Rainforest Foundation. ;D

I'm glad it was an easy update process for you - we put in some extra effort to make it go as simply as possible for everyone.  Glad to hear it paid off, and I appreciate your ongoing support of the project. There's a number of things (like our payment processor coin.co and our XSEED gift cards) that have been ready and waiting for about a year now, so we should have those online over the next several weeks. We also should be seeing some press coverage in the shorter term. Will keep everyone posted as things move along!

Made a pull request on github, apparently if you don't have a specific version of boost the wallet won't compile properly.

Yes, the network launched originally in April of 2015, the original dev sabotaged the project by forking it to a new codebase with broken POW and abandoned the project in early May the same year. I got involved in the project after that.

Now, after many roadblocks and delays over the past year, we've just relaunched with new codebase at the end of April. All existing users were able to reclaim their funds on the new chain along with the project funds needed for the Rainforest Foundation. We did overestimate the funds needed by a bit to cover everyone, but we'll be burning the difference and posting a link to the transaction.

Just a quick heads up - the wmikrut pool will be going offline temporarily sometime fairly soon (maybe a few hours from now since it's the middle of the night) so the pool owner can rebuild it.  If you haven't received payouts from the pool, he's going to be sending out all backlogged payments and is rebuilding the pool to troubleshoot the issue.

Maxminers has been paying out steadily, but I'm noticing they seem to be having some unrelated site issues and downtime. Hopefully they'll be up and running again soon, too.

Sunday May 15th 7:15pm Eastern update:

The wmikrut pool has been taken down while Bill troubleshoots the problem he was having with payouts.

Maxminer's site seems to be up again, but acting a little weird as far as the actual website goes - I could be wrong, but it looks kind of like they may be under a DDoS attack or something.  Either way, while the site and stats aren't working, mining still is and payouts are going out steadily with the most recent one we received about 9-10 minutes ago as I type this.

Hey everyone, please vote to add BitSeeds to Cryptopia. They're a great exchange based in New Zealand you should check out if you haven't before.

Mining update: Maxminers resolved their website issues and BitSeeds mining is still going smoothly. We expect to pick up some more miners, pools, and to start seeing more trading activity once we start getting some press coverage in the near future. Will keep you posted as that develops, but in the mean time please take a minute to vote with the link above.  Thanks!

I took a look at the Maxminers pool stats page and see what you're talking about - I'm repeating what I said on Twitter, but will post it here so people see it:

http://bitseeds.s3.amazonaws.com/BitSeeds-mining-blocks-found-2016-07-23-at-5.34.21-PM.jpg

The blocks are being found pretty steadily but there's a lot of hashing power that seems to be either a solo miner or a private pool I'm not aware of.

You just replied on Twitter as I was typing this pointing out the long run of blocks being minted with POS so I've taken my staking wallet offline and we have hash pointed at the pool again (our rented rig went offline last night mid-rental so we rented a new one) so we'll see if that balances things a little more.

Are you getting a green icon in the staking area like this?

http://bitseeds.s3.amazonaws.com/BitSeeds-2-staking-active.jpg

If it shows that you're ready for staking but you just haven't received any yet, then you may just need to be patient. I took a larger wallet offline just a few minutes ago which should help - I've tested with larger and smaller wallets on the network and it's (as expected) definitely more frequent with a larger balance.

You said you're unlocked, so it sounds like you're already familiar with staking and making sure an encrypted wallet is unlocked for it, but I'll post the links to the two tutorials covering this in case others can benefit:

The sudden movement in the market over the weekend caught me a little off guard and a little before we were ready to post full details, but I want to post an update on things and let you know what I can at this point.

Right now, we are working with Alex Waters of Coin.co and Coinapex.com (the about pages on those sites have a little info on him, but google him if you're not familiar with him) who is helping create the payment processing system we'll be using to allow merchants to accept BitSeeds and gain their charitable tax benefit. We had hoped to have this ready in July, but Alex was dealing with some personal/family issues that understandably put him behind schedule, but is working on it and I'll update you on his progress when I'm able to.

Speaking of charities, since the BitSeeds Foundation and the Rainforest Foundation are registered charities, it seems that this makes BitSeeds unusual (I believe unique) in that it involves fewer regulatory compliance burdens compared to other cryptocurrencies. To my understanding, the cost of state-by-state compliance now adds literally $2-3 million in costs to the hurdles for a startup trying to get into the cryptocurrency space, but the nonprofit/charity aspect of how this project is set up allows startups like coin.co to avoid most of that cost compared to Bitcoin. This should make XSEED a very attractive blockchain for startups to work with due to lower cost of compliance.

Alex has offered to get more specifics from his lawyers, but when confirmed it should make BitSeeds the world's only "regulatory resistant" cryptocurrency!  :)

We are in the process of lining up merchants with some confirmed already, including ones in the cannabis industry thanks to Gabe's connections there (see below). I'd like to share a partial list of merchants, but Gabe has asked me not to post anything yet. However, I think I can share the following - I'm just going to quote Gabe directly here:

"I own a cannabis incubator and we've incubated multiple cannabis companies ranging from delivery services to distribution platforms for dispensaries. Green Labs has been written up in numerous publications [including] Forbes and Business Insider…"
(also in the New York Times, High Times, and others linked on their site at http://greenlabsdenver.com/ )

"We have access to over 300 dispensaries between Colorado and California. A lot of them, I think the majority of them, have issues accepting credit cards and anything other than cash. A few companies have come out to try to help them and give them financing in a sense – being able to accept credit cards – but that really hasn't panned out. Most of them have to bounce the money all around like through Puerto Rico and stuff like that. Digital currency would obviously fix that and make it much easier. "

Anyway, I'll post more details when I'm able. Thanks for everyone's support and patience in the meantime!

Also, a small housekeeping update:

When we relaunched earlier this year, we of course had to create a premine to be able to restore everyone's funds on the new chain. We were not 100% sure of the timing when we planned it out and so we mined extra funds to make sure we had enough, with the plan of burning the excess once we knew everything had gone smoothly.

There were 376432.26089348 more XSEED created than were needed, and the wallet they were held in unavoidably staked three times, bringing the total to 381751.95130442 XSEED before burning.

We recently burned the funds and here are links to the proof of burn:

Here is the temporary address they were held in - http://45.55.193.231:3001/address/bS8L2Sa3rvkH17a4DehvbUo6omKQyeEbSd

thanks for your clarifications!

Hi, welcome aboard and thanks for checking in with your questions.  First off, I probably should have linked to an article explaining what Proof Of Burn is just in case people weren't familiar with the term.

Here is a discussion about the concept since the main wiki article isn't as clear as it could be:
http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/24187/what-is-proof-of-burn

but the basic idea is that we created extra coins that were not needed or part of the plan for BitSeeds.
We could have dumped them on the market, but instead we chose to destroy them to avoid devaluing everyone's existing coins in the process.  I posted the information publicly so anyone could verify this on the blockchain. Bottom line is, this is not a bad thing it's either neutral or positive news depending on your perspective since there are now fewer coins in existence on the network.

I hope that makes sense; feel free to ask if you need any further clarification.

As for whether you should download the wallet and start staking, absolutely! The relaunch went successfully back in early May and there are no hard forks/relaunches/etc. needed or planned at this point.  I've got a wallet staking as I type this in fact.  :)

There's not much discussion going on, and getting the payment processing set up is unfortunately taking longer than I'd like, but no, it's not dead.

Just wondering if there's anything new to report?  Waiting patiently, of course, but would love to know what's in the works...

Hey Delong,
 Yeah, so here's the current state of things. Going all the way back to the original launch of BitSeeds back in April of 2015, the project had coin.co lined up to handle merchant services/payment processing and handling the small fee that gives merchants a tax deduction for a charitable donation.

 Since then the Bitlicense went into effect in New York (where coin.co is located) and between that and the other state-by-state regulatory requirements, the up-front cost for coin.co to be able to provide payment processing for crypto apparently shot up into the $2-3 million range(!) and so coin.co basically decided to largely stop operations. Back in June I was told about this, but also told that due to the charity status of the project this created a regulatory loophole and Bitseeds support was still on track and that we'd be ready to have merchants accepting orders in XSEED in about a month.

 Fast forward to late July, as I posted upthread, Alex from coin.co hadn't had a chance to start working on it due to a family illness, but was still planning on it. When I spoke with him I asked him to confirm the "loophole" (for lack of a better term) with his lawyers. Eventually we heard that his lawyers had decided that the charity status was not enough to allow them to avoid the massive regulatory cost so coin.co wouldn't be able to do it.

 However, coin.co has a complete payment processing system set up that is basically turnkey and ready for a company to take over to implement payment processing for bitcoin, Bitseeds, or other alts.  Alex reached out to someone he thought might want to take over coin.co's assets, but they weren't apparently interested in providing payment processing along with their existing crypto business.

 So we're at a point where we do have confirmed interested businesses who want to start accepting BitSeeds, but without coin.co there's no way for them to do so.  So we are not able to go forward in the planned sequence (payment processing -> merchants -> gift cards & Rainforest Foundation) so we're hoping to move forward on the gift cards in the mean time so the RF can begin giving BitSeeds in exchange for donations and pick up the payment processor later.

  I know some people who might be interested in working with us to implement the payment processing since they're already working on a multi-crypto project involving debit cards and merchant services, so I'm going to get in touch with them and see what they say. It's pretty likely they'll be happy to work with us so I'm going to get in touch with them and will get back with more info when I have it.

  Sorry for the delays and I really apologize for getting excited back in June and tweeting about the news before I should have. The way it was presented to me was that it was all on track and just a matter of a few weeks before merchants would be able to accept BitSeeds, so I figured I'd let everyone know since people (including myself!) had been waiting so long. We do have merchants lined up, but obviously without coin.co's help it's a bit of a setback.

 Anyway, that's the current state of things and I'll post more when I have something to report.

Thanks for the update, Worth - it's disappointing to hear about the setbacks, but I'm glad there's still an effort being made to keep things going.

On a different note, would you be able to contact Bittrex and let them know the coin is still active?  It looks like XSEED is slated for delisting without either increased volume or contact from you.

Thanks again!

Hi Delong,
 Thanks for the heads up; as it happens I actually already spoke with Bill (Bittrex CEO) over the weekend and updated him on what was going on with the project. What I didn't mention specifically in my last post was that Alex of coin.co had actually spoken with Bill offering the turnkey crypto payment processing system to them, which would have allowed Bittrex to become our payment processor.  I asked Bill about it since we hadn't spoken since before then and he said that he liked Alex and coin.co but it wasn't a great fit for what Bittrex is working on right now.

 However, Bill said he had someone he could put me in touch with however who might be a better fit - I need to follow up with Bill about this since he only has given me the website so far, but if that worked out we'd end up with a company that could handle both the payment processing as well as the gift cards so that could end up working out really well!

 So while I have spoken with Bill, anyone who can help boost the trade volume in the market would be appreciated.

 I have been trying on my own to help improve the volume for some time now by gradually selling off my own BitSeeds (at a considerable loss since all the BitSeeds I've ever owned were ones I mined during the original launch or bought up out of pocket some time ago) but have almost entirely exhausted my own funds.  So to whomever has been buying when I've been selling them, you're welcome for the cheap coins.

Hopefully Bill will make an exception for Bitseeds, i'm sure he understands the situation  with its past and bad actors, not the same as other coins where devs abandoned and ran off. With just a bit more time I think it can be a solid top coin.

Unfortunatly, there are a good number of good coins that are beeing delisted recently....
In different cases a dev team was working hard to deliver.... and the sanction came anyway.

As for now, the only place to go (if operational), is to put your coins in a local wallet)
and wait for news ;-)

Sad period for many coins and dev team dedidated to ramp up their new or rescue coin....

On the other hand some scammy coins are still live LOL!

Waiting for connexions to the network.

Is there a node list or conf file available?

I'm talking it over with Bill right now and I emailed Gabe to see if he could talk to him as well. We'll see what he says, but it costs Bittrex a pretty fair amount of money to keep markets open and unfortunately BitSeeds just hasn't had a lot of volume and so they've been keeping it open for us while losing money for a long while now.  :/

Yes, they've been really aggressive cutting the smaller lower profile coins due to the cost issue I mentioned. I can understand their position but it's very frustrating for us to have the market killed, and sort of because we don't hype enough to get more people trading... I always saw the lack of hype as a good thing, but again I can understand them wanting to keep their costs under control.

Thanks. Glad you like the wallet design - I need to tweak a couple aspects of it but I think it came out looking pretty good.

You should be getting connections, albeit not a huge number right now since there don't seem to be a lot of people staking right now and both our pools have gone down along with the other pools run by those two people. We just set up a new node which hasn't been hard coded into the wallet yet, so use

addnode=104.131.118.19:2332

and also try

addnode=72.130.92.25:2332

those should help.

BTW, if you have any XSEED already be sure to fully sync it with an empty wallet or there's the potential for it to get stuck on it's own fork if the wallet decides to stake. I've had this happen with a number of staking coins in the past before I realized what was causing it.

Checking my wallet it looks like we're on block 67344 as I type this. Keep in mind a lot of QT or core-based alt wallets including BitSeeds will sometimes look like they're failing to sync if you happen to sync and catch up between blocks. So check the block number and if it's 67344 or higher then you're probably fully synced even if it looks like it's catching up.

But now that I think about it, I haven't seen this happen since we relaunched with our current codebase back at the end of April, so you probably just need to give it a little more time unless maybe your firewall is blocking it or something.

Let me know if any of that helps.

Thanks for keeping us updated, I had some low buys set and hit, but not enough to keep volume up in a meaningful way.  Please keep us updated if it looks like Bittrex might bring the XSEED market back.  If they don't, are there any other options you might pursue, and will this affect any future plans for the coin if no major alt markets are trading it?

So you may have noticed that the XSEED market is disabled but is still listed, unlike most/all of the other alts that they've removed recently. Bill has not made a final decision yet and I have just heard back from Gabe earlier today who has been away traveling, I think for his cannabis startup incubator. Gabe is going to get in touch with Bill and talk to him so we'll see how that goes and I'll post any updates here when I have them.

Everyone, sorry for not getting in here sooner and updating the thread and I apologize to the people who have PMed me here as well. In brief, there will be a coin swap from our own blockchain to Ubiq tokens, the details of which will be forthcoming soon once we coordinate all the details with everyone involved in the process.

The network is still running along pretty smoothly and you should be able to open your wallet and stake without problems - just make sure you're using the current (May 2016 update) version 2.0 which you can download from https://bitseeds.org/

If you have any problems connecting try adding the following two lines to your bitseeds.conf file:

addnode=104.131.118.19:3001
addnode=98.151.105.228

and that should get you connections. If anyone else has nodes to suggest, feel free to post them here.

There will also be an ICO happening with all proceeds going to the Rainforest Foundation.  The exact amount of BitSeeds we're offering hasn't been settled on, but it looks like it will be roughly 60% of the current circulating coins which should help improve distribution a lot.

All coins being sold are coming from staked funds from project wallets and not from the original (still untouched) premine.  The premine will be locked into a smart contract and most likely will be used to mint new coins at a low annual inflation rate -- much lower than the original 10% -- since staking and mining will no longer be an option as a Ubiq token.

The goal here is to fund the Rainforest Foundation without flooding the market with a vast ton of new coins, and to bring in as much money as possible for the RF while still looking out for the needs of all current BitSeeds holders. Once all the details have been worked out, I'll be posting more specifics, but we're *probably* looking at an August or September timeframe.  I'll keep you posted. Thanks for your patience!

Great to see the project still alive however, If an ICO will be taking place (meaning new coins entering the market) I think you need to appropriate more coins to the coin supporters who have held through the thick and (mostly) thin so that they can retain value in their holdings

thanks for the support. I will check later the wallet I was installing on my main laptop...

I am a bit confused about the swap to UBIQ.... for me UBIQ is also a coin which is currently listed anywhere and is struggling...
Am I confused or accurate on that statement?

and I was able to put back my coins easily....

thanks a lot, having a such friendly and easy process is really great

1) Good move on UBIQ. Now, how can BitSeeds truly revolutionise forest protection, would there be land rights or buying sq cm of rainforest locked into the block? How can smart contracts be used as part of the project. Specifically buying acres of rainforest and conserving them with a name of a token holder as a form of Legacy? Tax deductible charity? Measurable, immutable impact. I think there is a lot of potential in this project. I'm no solidity dev, but would be able to help / brainstorm with business modelling / logic.

2) Can we get this coin listed soon as I'm keen to buy and stake some. Or you are positioning for ICO?

3) Have you guys considered starting BitSeeds stores program for charity shops like Oxfam or Lush? Partnership with those guys would be huge boost. Bigger organisations would love to boast of measurable impact embedded into blockchain, wouldn't they?

4) Also, noticed that Sting supports Rainforest Foundation work. That would be a sick plug for this crypto. Way better then Paris Hilton.

You have interesting ideas on the tppic....

I know that there are heavy, really heavy financial interest in "promoting" and facilitating deforestation
no matter what.... so, having a real community with ressources to protect the rainforest for real
would be outstanding. They play hard... Hopefully, we could play "crypto smart"....

Looks like Bittrex is delisting the wallet, but there's no way to get coins out anyway

Sad, got totally screwed by a charity that led its backers on for almost 2 years with promises of a revival that never came. Blaming Bryce Weiner is no excuse anymore.

Agreed, this is a real bummer - I also feel like we were strung along... There was even talk about moving it onto the UBQ platform.  Nothing came of it, apparently, and now I have no way to get coins out before the wallets are removed. Sad.

So this is the situation as it stands:

In 2017 Gabe called me up and said that the Rainforest Foundation had contacted him and wanted to do an ICO to raise funds. I was initially a little hesitant about it but wanted to help as long as it was a purely charitable event (i.e. no personal compensation for being involved).  We had previously had problems finding a decent developer to be a part of the project so it seemed to make sense to try swapping to an Ubiq token since they seemed to be looking for projects to take on for this.

We got in touch with them via the Ubiq Slack and everything initially seemed to be going well, with everyone on their team seeming to be receptive and interested. I was told the next step was to open a support ticket on Bittrex to get withdrawals turned back on for BitSeeds to prepare for a swap.

I opened a ticket and then weeks and weeks passed before I got any kind of response. I finally spoke with a lower level support person who eventually escalated me to Raimi, and from there I ended up in a loop going back and forth over the same points  over and over and I never was able to convince him to turn withdrawals on. Meanwhile, we (Gabe, Suzanne from the RF, and I each trying independently) could no longer get any response from any of the Ubiq team on their Slack, or on their Discord after they switched to that. So all forward momentum stopped dead despite our efforts.

As we got closer to the end of the year, I started becoming concerned that the SEC and others were not satisfied with how tokens were being issued and ICOs were being handled, and became increasingly convinced they were going to start prosecution of participants and so began recommending a wait and see approach to everyone else involved until we could be certain how to proceed with something like this while fully complying with US law.

I have no way of knowing why Bittrex has chosen to fully remove these 80 or so cryptos at this time, or why they chose to disable withdrawals on some of the blockchains including BitSeeds. The blockchain/network is still moving and functioning; I just checked the two computers I have staking and the most recent staked transaction was less than 15 minutes ago with six confirmations already. So as far as I can tell, there's no reason for them to prevent withdrawals, but as I mentioned above they seemed to be unwilling to turn them back on when I asked them to months ago so I have no idea what their reasoning is.

And to address the idea that the Rainforest Foundation "scammed" people, to the best of my knowledge they have never made a single cent or satoshi from BitSeeds. The only BitSeeds project or Rainforest Foundation funds that have ever been on the market since I've became involved in the summer of 2015 was a small amount that was mined in 2016 after we reactivated POW. Gabe gave me some of his personal BTC which I used to rent a low power miner through MRR to mine on the pool, the small proceeds were sold at market price solely to buy BTC to re-rent the miner and keep a minimum hashrate for the function of the network.

In 2016 I did put a lot of my own personal BitSeeds (mined by me or bought with my own BTC months earlier) on the market and sold it - at a considerable loss - in an attempt to shore up the flagging volume on Bittrex to hopefully keep it sufficient to justify them continuing to list it. My efforts were in vain, but it was all I knew to do at the time to keep it going. I'm sorry that it hasn't worked out so far, but I'm still hopeful we'll find a way to make it happen in the future.

I want to apologize if I came across a little rash, it's been pretty emotional as I invested quite a bit into the coin and never sold a dime of it. It seemed like one of the more honest projects in the crypto space compared to all the fly-by-night pump and dumps I felt confident in its future.

I know you devoted alot effort to trying to get the project back off the ground Worth especially when most people had abandoned and moved on, and I appreciate your efforts.

Knowing now that Ubiq and Bittrex seemed to give you the run-around is even more disappointing.

I'm just worried now that Bittrex has closed ALL Withdrawals that they are just going to delete the wallet .dat's and leave investors high and dry if it does get back off the ground someday?

I am sorry that all efforts in this projects turned short and that now all is stopped.

Hopefully in the futur, if the chain continue to run smoothly, there will be some lights to revive the project.

I liked the concept and vision.... hopefully not dead... the world needs that kind of project in a big way
