Title: Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com)
Post by: jonnybravo0311 on December 17, 2015, 07:02:41 PM
So we all know what happened with Nexious, and a bunch of people got burned.  We also know that it seems to be the latest fashion for newbie accounts to announce their own pools.  Whether or not they are sincere, or are just trying to play the same scam Nexious did, I don't know.

In light of this, I decided to open up my own pool.  I figured I'd do the community a favor and offer my own. No frills, no BS. The pool is here for a simple reason: to give you a choice.  The pool mines BTC.  No merge mining.  No alt coins.  Straight up BTC mining.

You can see my announcement here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=104664.msg13126185#msg13126185

I've actually updated the maximum difficulty since I wrote that to better manage large hash miners.  Here are the current specs:

Pool:                        Jonny Bravo's Mining Emporium
Website:                   http://www.bravo-mining.com
Proxy:                      No
Generation address:  14KxdJ7DfAPsxCYkpcDTcKotjeProcfRPo
Coinbase signature:   /bravo-mining/
Payout method:         PPLNS
Fee:                         0.5%
Pay Tx Reward:         Yes
Vardiff:                    starts at 1042.  Range from 8 to 1048576.
Local Work:              stratum
Pay Orphans:           No
Min Withdrawal:       0.001
Merge Mining:          No
Location:                 US

I've actually held off making this announcement and soft launched the pool at the end of November.  Well, now I'm making it public.

The pool has already found its first block: https://www.blocktrail.com/BTC/block/000000000000000003c3a6ee87941ea88ab99490e7774ae25dc48deb9aa2bf72

Oh... and here's the important bit... the miners were paid for their contributions :).

How to connect:

Code:
./cgminer -o stratum+tcp://stratum.bravo-mining.com:3333 -u Weblogin.WorkerName -p WorkerPassword

  • You MUST register and use a valid email address because the pool requires you to validate
  • PPLNS payouts with 5N share life
  • MPOS front end running on NOMP stratum
  • NO SPV MINING - we mine only on fully validated blocks

Currently we're averaging about 25TH; however, I regularly throw 500TH - 1PH rentals at the site (that's how we found our first block) so the hash rate varies considerably and is why I didn't put any value in the thread title.

So, if you're looking for somewhere to point your hash, give us a try.  You aren't going to get scammed, bamboozled, swindled or defrauded here.  Proof is in the pudding: we've found our first block and miners were paid.

For any support issues, you can reach me here on this thread, by PM, by email admin at bravo-mining dot com, or if you like to chat, I setup an IRC channel on freenode: #bravo-mining.

Thanks, and I look forward to seeing some of you there.

Thanks everyone :).  I'm very grateful for the miners on my pool.  It makes me happy that you have chosen to try out a small pool and that your hashing power is not pointed at the big guys instead.

Yes, we were lucky to have already found our first block.  It was found at about 27.4% of expected shares, so a nice surprise.

Since my announcement here, I've noticed quite a few users have registered, and I want to thank you for doing so!  I'm hoping some more of you will point some of your hashing power to the pool as well.

Looking forward to our next block!

yeah, that was extremely good luck for a first block on a new pool.

There are only 13 people with shares in this current block so rewards will be good. All we need is some of that good luck.

Forget about all these newbie accounts appearing and offering up new pools and other scams, go with a pool OP that is trusted and has a good reputation. You need look no further.

Well... the new difficulty is here, and it was a pretty nasty change of over 18%.

As soon as the current orders on NH start to taper off and the prices for this difficulty kick in, I'll be renting about a petahash for a while.  Let's hope for a Christmas Miracle :P

I'll post here when I do the rental.

Edit: 1.1PH running for the next 8 hours or so.  Let's nail that next block!

Unfortunately the block gods were not with me during my rental.  That is sad.  However, we've also gotten a few more miners on the pool and are currently averaging about 40TH.

Thanks to everyone who has joined and I look forward to our next block together :)

It's because of how many shares he had when the block was found.  When the pool found its first block, there were very few active miners who had contributed any shares.  Therefore, the block reward was divided up into fewer pieces, with each participant getting a larger portion of the pie.

Yes, icezer0z saw 0.5BTC payout that block.  If my pool were to find a block right now, he'd expect to make an even larger payout.

Yes I got lucky and it was Jonny and like 2 others including me hashing away.  I left and went to Kano because I felt that we were getting nowhere so if I would have stayed it probably wouldve be 0.65 or 0.75 btc.  Plus I rent hash once in awhile.

Where do you guys rent hash from?

Just curious...

I got screwed over by, what turned out to be a  fraudulent company a couple years ago --which is what prompted me to purchase my own mining equipment -- and have been skeptical of the concept ever since...

Thanks...

nicehash.com usually.  MRR also is a good choice but I usually find their prices to be higher.

Post by: bctmke on December 21, 2015, 04:48:05 AM
I can also vouch for nicehash.

I got lucky the two times I used it at a few different pools and they both went on good luck streaks so the PPLNS worked out in my favor (meaning I earned back what I spent and then some).

I love the pool Jonny.  If I could make one suggestion though: minify your "jquery.dataTables.js" file.  It's 1/10th of the initial page load, and is crammed full of documentation and other stuff you don't really need to send over the wire to clients.  (yeah, I was snooping your source... yes I have weird hobbies)  Keep up the good work!  ;D ;D

Hi Solipsis,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I've looked at the code you mentioned and see that it is indeed full of documentation and comments.  You state that it's 1/10th of my initial page load.  Do you mean just in terms of sheer bytes being sent over the wire?  Is the implication you're making that I'll have better performance if I strip out the majority of the comments/documentation from that file?

LOL... no worries about snooping the source - it's available on github.  I used standard MPOS/NOMP.  I added a few tweaks and fixes on my end to address some of the known issues in them, but otherwise it's pretty much stock.

Yes, I did mean in terms of sheer bytes being sent.  The initial page load is about 1019 KB and 100 KB of that is "jquery.dataTables.js".  Sometimes I forget how much I use slang terms.  "Minifying" JavaScript is using a program similar to a compiler which automatically removes documentation and changes up things to make it more efficient in terms of raw size.  (C.F., "jquery.dataTables.js" and "jquery-2.13.min.js").  I did some looking and the developers of DataTables already publish a minified version here: https://cdn.datatables.net/1.10.10/js/jquery.dataTables.min.js (https://cdn.datatables.net/1.10.10/js/jquery.dataTables.min.js)  Using a minified version, would help with bandwidth and also somewhat performance.  It should be a simple drop-in replacement.

Much obliged for the explanation.  I'm spoiled with bandwidth, so I sometimes forget that not everyone's got hundreds of megabit connections to the world :)

I'll take a look at those minify versions.  Thanks again for the suggestions and the input.  You keep this up and I might be pinging you for a job in real life... we could always use some detail-oriented performance engineers :)

Hello everybody I thought I would introduce myself, I'm Rozo, I live in North Carolina. I'm very new to mining but I have researched it extensively over the last month or so. I just got my miner's maybe 2 weeks ago. Jonny I read through some old post of yours and you impressed me so I decided to take a chance on you and direct one of my S 7 over to your pool with my fingers crossed thanks for taking the time and setting one up.

I hope we get lucky again asap so I can earn a few more bitcoins so that I can rent more etc......

Jonny's Holiday Promotion!

Hey everyone!  In the spirit of the holidays, I'm going to run a promotion.  I am going to give the block finder 1BTC from my own pocket.  No, I'm not kidding.  Yes, I really do have the coin.  In fact, you can see for yourself: https://blockchain.info/address/1Q9FLjh1Sd7Vw8oo54SvaMb1w3ZuEkSBAe

Obviously, I'm excluding myself from this promotion... if I happen to find a block, then it will be the next block finder who gets the coin.

So, how do you enter?  Simple - point some hash to my pool.  It doesn't matter if you use your own hardware or rent it.  Everyone is welcome.

This contest will run from now until 23:59:59 EST 12/31/2015.

Good luck to everyone!

Oh I will be in tampa in March.  Brandon to be exact.  Where is tampa brewery located at?

483TH...nice!

I'm in with some hash - YuenglingDude  ;D Let's get some blocks!

I drank a bunch of Yuengling this summer.  It was a special all summer long at AmVets near our camp!

It's my favorite beer & America's oldest brewery.  If you're ever in Pottsville, PA go take the tour of the brewery, it's well worth it  ;)

I will I am on other side of state in Northwest, PA.  Don't get down that way very often.

Adding 20TH to pool also for next couple days.  :)

Good time of the year to come down (Spring Training & Spring Break). The brewery is on 30th street, near Bush Gardens which is north of Brandon, probably about a 30 minute drive.

Outside Philadelphia on the PA side or NJ?  I've worked in King of Prussia.

Also, the pool is up to around 150TH!  Good luck to everyone!  Let's pop that block :)

On the PA side. I grew up in Havertown and then we moved out to Devon in my Middle/High School years. I spent many days being a mall rat at the KoP mall  8)
The KoP mall... been there a few times :).  I stayed in Conshohocken.  There's a great pub called Baggataway I frequented quite a bit.

Now I'm spending my work weeks in Jacksonville.  I might end up moving down to FL, too.  Getting a bit tired of the winters up north... of course, so far this year has been unreal... it's going to be 75 degrees tomorrow.

Oh... and I joined the pool party with a couple hundred TH for the next couple days.  We're up to about 450TH!

That's cool, my first real IT job was in Conshohocken right before Y2K. I got sick of the Winters too & decided I wanted to live near the beach, now it's like I'm on vacation all the time  ;) The pool is rocking, I hope we get lucky soon!

nicehash.com usually.  MRR also is a good choice but I usually find their prices to be higher.

And...

I can also vouch for nicehash.

I got lucky the two times I used it at a few different pools and they both went on good luck streaks so the PPLNS worked out in my favor (meaning I earned back what I spent and then some).

Thanks guys!!!

It took some additional help from Jonny -- but I was able to get it to work here...

In the meantime -- I played around with another pool and had the same luck Btcmke had!!!

I'm considering moving my machines over -- but I have a question...

It appears that mining-bravo keeps your work record -- like forever (until a block is found/built)...

In the current pool I'm mining at -- we only get credit for the last 10 shifts...

So, my question is:  If I mined here for a week (example purposes) and then went somewhere else -- and then 2 weeks bravo found a block -- would I still get paid for the week that I was here???

I'm not advocating short term participation -- I'm just trying to clarify...

Thanks again for your help...

 :) :) :)

This is also a PPLNS pool so yes.  Any work you put in towards the next block will count towards any rewards received.

Let's see if I can help clarify things.  The pool pays out using PPLNS.  That means shares have a shelf life.  Currently, it's set to 5N, where N is calculated dynamically based upon the shares of the previous 5 rounds.  All things being equal, that translates into about 5 blocks worth of payments per share.  In other words, if the pool finds blocks at exactly 100% luck, then your share would be paid 5 times.

As with all PPLNS pools, there's the concept of "ramping", where you build up to your theoretical expected payout per share.  For the sake of this explanation, let's assume the pool finds one block per day.  Also, let's assume you mine for 10 days.  Here's how it would break down:

Day 1 - 1/5 expected
Day 2 - 2/5 expected
Day 3 - 3/5 expected
Day 4 - 4/5 expected
Day 5 - 5/5 expected
Day 6 - 5/5 expected
Day 7 - 5/5 expected
Day 8 - 5/5 expected
Day 9 - 5/5 expected
Day 10 - 5/5 expected
Day 11 - 4/5 expected
Day 12 - 3/5 expected
Day 13 - 2/5 expected
Day 14 - 1/5 expected
Day 15 - 0

As you can see, it all adds up.  You mine for 10 days, and you get 10 days of expected payouts... they're just spread out over 15 days :)

Good luck with your rental!!!  I really want to give that BTC to somebody for Christmas!

You can go to the pool's website and see the current hash rate... I don't have any special monitoring apps or anything written (like ZACHM did for kano's pool).

What is a good price?

It seems like if I try at .0050 - I get no takers...

.0053 for consistent -- and .0051 for inconsistent...

The couple I've seen go up were for infinite hash at 0.0053.  They lasted seconds to a couple minutes max.  0.0051 has been pretty consistent... only getting bumped off when those crazy infinite hash orders come online.

Thanks!!!

Btw -- I think your promotion is BRILLIANT!!!

I've always thought that pools should reward the "finder" 1 of the 25 coins -- then equally distribute the remaining...

I guess this is even better -- it definitely brings the excitement back to mining!!!

Thanks to your help, both of my machines are pointed this way...

I'm still unclear on the work performed -- I'm guessing that your explanation says that if the pool suffers "bad luck" there will be a diminishing return...

Yep thats reasonable.  In many cases you just have to accept that the hash rate might fluctuate as bigger orders come in.

If I want to be sure my hash rate stays - i'll put a fixed order in.  The most recent one was for 40TH for 24 hours or so and it was only .0055.  So not a ton more expensive.

In the end you'll need to play and find the sweet spot for what you want.

Yes that certainly could be the case.

It's all about the luck.  Good luck and things work in your favor.  Bad luck and they won't

EDIT: make that 0.0065.  Some new sha256 alt coin just launch? ;).... Andddd...gone.

Sorry about the confusion Rozo.  Let's see if I can explain this without even using Bitcoin.

Assume you have an empty glass in front of you.  Now, you start pouring water into the glass.  Every now and then I'm going to come by and take a look at that glass and measure how much water you've got in it.  The first time I come by, you've got the glass only 1/5th of the way full.  I mark that down and pay you for 1/5th of a glass of water.  I come by a while later and you've got the glass 2/5 full.  OK, I mark it down and pay you for 2/5 of a glass of water.  This continues until the glass is full of water.  Once your glass is full I pay you for a full glass of water, but I also now open a valve at the bottom of the glass so that water drains out as fast as you're pouring it in.  In this fashion, your glass will always be full of water and every time I stop by, I see you've got a full glass and pay you for it.

Eventually, you stop pouring water into the glass.  However, that valve is still open, so the water is draining at the same rate you were pouring.  When I stop by the next time, I see you've only got 4/5 of a glass, so I pay you for that much.  The time after that, the glass is only 3/5 full, so I pay you for that.  This continues until the glass is empty.

In my story above, every time I stopped by is equivalent to the finding of a block.  I see how much water you have in the glass and pay you for however much is there.  My story assumed I stopped by at even intervals of time, so you'd always know when to expect me.

So, how does luck play into it?  Well, every time I stopped by, I made sure to calibrate that valve on the bottom of the glass.  If I stopped by more often than expected, I'd mark you down and pay you.  If I stopped by less than expected, the valve would clog up and the water you were pouring in would slosh over the edge of the glass and be wasted.  When I finally did stop by, I would notice you had a full glass, and pay you for it, then fix the valve so that the pour rate equaled the drain rate.

OK... maybe I shouldn't try explaining things after I've been drinking :P

Hope everyone is having a great Christmas!

Always a good time seeing family :)  It's too bad we didn't hit in the timeframe that your rental was up.

It'll come though :)

I've moved a S3 over so that I can have some constant hash rate for now and my rental is still around until sometime tomorrow.

That it is.  Statistically we are still well in the good luck territory at 53%.  Also remember the holiday promotion is still going, so if anyone hits a block before the new year you get 1BTC bonus from me.

I'm quite hopeful we hit a block this week and somebody gets the prize!

Poor little lonely prize BTC.  Sitting all alone in a wallet.  No friends.  No one to play with.

Help this poor coin (https://blockchain.info/address/1Q9FLjh1Sd7Vw8oo54SvaMb1w3ZuEkSBAe) find a home.  Find a block and take him home with you.

I'm going to direct about 100TH to the pool for about a day or so. Anymore miners interested in adding some hash power? Shall we do it all at the same time to try to bring the pool's hash rate up to over 1PH so maybe we have more chance to get this block :) Let me know who is interested...

Just over 2 days left of the promotion... I'd love to be able to send somebody home with a shiny new coin :)

For those of you planning to throw a ton of hash at the pool, best of luck!  Since I don't qualify for the promotion, I won't be renting any hash for the next few days so we aren't competing with each other.  Let's bring the new year in with some blocks!

31st i will rent some power to.. Let's race ;-) the more the better for all of us I guess so no competition.. I have little chance to find a block in the pool is hashing at 30th.. But if we manage to reach at least 1ph them we will have much more chances ;-)

I meant competition on the rental sites.  Unless you're getting a fixed order on NH, you can be outbid by somebody else and lose your hash.

By the way, has anyone rented with MRR on this pool?  Seems people were reporting some issues with using that service on kano/ck pools.  Pretty sure that was resolved on those pools, but I'm curious to see if there are any ill effects from it here.

I stick with NH - seems to be the most reasonably priced and I've never had hash rate issues (even on the standard orders).

Thanks for the tip on NH
I used both and like MRR only because I know how long it is hashing for and I can switch urls if needed. both worked and as far as issues with CK its because of ddos.

are we still adding more hash now cause I'm ready too

Well... here's a little added incentive to all miners on my pool.  I'm doubling the bonus.  That's right.  If you find a block before the clock ticks into 2016 here on the east coast of the US, you will get 2BTC.

I was going to throw that BTC into a 1PH rental for a while, but instead I'm offering it up to you.

So... let's get this party rocking in the new year!

The reward is awesome :) However, getting up to over 1PH would have gave the pool more chance to get a block. I am waiting for a pending transaction on NH and will throw 200TH for about 6hrs. Hope more miners will join in so we'll have more chance.

Last but not least, great job Jonny. You have a miner on your pool for life :)

Let's see if I can help everyone finding a block. :P

I will also buy some nicehash rents to increase my overall hash power. ;)

BTW if I cannot find a block and anyone else finds it then will I get my deserved btc for my shares?

And then do some more research on PPLNS payouts

1st January is already going to end and till now no block has been found in this pool. For this, I have got an idea. Although I do not know if Jonny Bravo will accept it or not.

One of our escrows scammed around 23 BTCs from his escrowed funds. Since the contest period is nearly going to end tonight, I request Jonny to wait until a block is found and then send a percentage of his shares along with the 2 BTC to be given as a bonus to all the victims of this biggest scam that happened at the dead end of 2015!

I don't know if he will accept my proposal or not but this will at least give them a compensation for their lost BTC. :)

This is what DISGUSTS me about bitcoin...

SO MANY PEOPLE using it for scams/theft/et. al.

The fact that they ALSO do that in GREATER numbers with USD keeps my faith...

I hope no one here got hurt...

Thanks for the post...

I tried to Email Jonny through the pool site's admin function -- but it didn't seem to work...

I've noticed jbravo hashing at ALMOST 1PH since yesterday on Kano's pool -- here is/was my email to him...

Quote
This question might seem to be harsh -- but the reality is that I'm VERY interested in the why...

I almost spent MORE of my hard earned btc pointing additional hash YOUR way last night -- and then realized that YOU were hashing on someone ELSES pool -- it is the same tonight (according to THEIR stats)...

WHY would you be pointing ALMOST a PH at Kano's pool, when you are trying to start a new pool on your own???

Are you Jbravo on Kano???

I'm curious, because I truly am/was excited about the POSSIBILITIES your pool could provide once it matured.  A concept that I TRULY believed WOULD happen at some point in 2016...

Also, since you have publicly stated that with the exception of an extraordinarily small miner pointed towards OGNasty's P2Pool, you were solely hashing on YOUR OWN pool...

What are YOUR thoughts???

That is a different person over there.

You think it's confusing... imagine my surprise when I have a PM from kano asking me questions.  At first I thought it was related to my pool and I'm digging through logs trying to find what he's asking... after a few messages back and forth I realized he thought I was the miner on his pool.

My account on kano's pool is the same as my username here: jonnybravo0311.

Also, sorry about the Contact Us page on my site.  I meant to address that previously, but got busy with other stuff and it slipped my mind.  For now, I'm simply going to disable it until I can look into it and get it fixed properly.

As mentioned in the first post of this thread, you can reach me via email directly at admin at bravo-mining dot com.  Of course, you can also reach me here on this thread or via PM, too.

The promo will run from now until 23:59:59 on Jan 27.

The first person to find a block between now and then will receive 1.5BTC.  Phil will receive a 0.5BTC birthday gift.  Here's the twist: if we find a block on Phil's birthday as well, I'll send Phil another 0.5BTC.

Please be advised that starting around 10:00 EST today I will be performing a little bit of maintenance on the pool's servers.  As a result, the pool will be offline for a few minutes.  Your miners will failover.

I will update here when I start the maintenance and when it is completed.

LOL! Why do you hope for Jonny to help you in this matter? Jonny is just a miner and he cannot keep up with his daily expenses because each block gets mined after so many months. And the cost of electricity bill per month is fearful for him to pay all at once. :-[

Please do not beg for money. This pool is not a charity service. :-\

So on another note I've been working with an HVAC engineer friend of mine and we have successfully integrated 4 antminer S7 into my heating and air system of my house.

We are using the house blower to cool the antminer S7 ( 4 will produce 18000 BTUs ) and at the same time heat the house.

It's a 1700 square foot house maintaining 67 degrees F in Raleigh North Carolina and it was roughly 20 to 30 degrees outside during the past 24 hours.

The heat pump is off and there is no added heat Source other than the antminer S7.

The antminer S7 themselves are maintaining about 50 to 53 Celsius

I am very excited to think that I can heat my house this winter just using my antminer S7!!

Such an unlucky pool I have ever seen in my life! I had been mining on F2Pool and they pays me through PPS mode whether they receives a block or not. In fact they finds around 149 blocks everyday and is contributing 25% of the whole network. Similarly AntPool. Also look at CK's solo pool. They also gets a block or two in a day. They take maximum 16 to 20 hours to find a block.

I have seen Jonny's pool going upto 1.2Ph to 2Ph during Christmas and New Year still not a single block has been found till today and I have accumulated my 500k shares there just being greedy. -_-

No thanks. Moving my miners to F2Pool again.

Such a lack of understanding of how a pool works.  Take a look at the pool statistics.  You can see as of right now we are only 78.79% of expected shares.  Our first block was found at about 28%.  Of course those other pools find multiple blocks a day... they have multiple PH mining on them constantly.

I'm sorry you don't feel that this pool is a good fit for you.  Since you are in fact leaving, I would much rather you chose a pool other than the one you seem to be favoring.  Give kano's pool a try.  He's grown rather nicely over the past week and is closing in on 10 PH.

I agree with Jonny.  You should really understand how pool payouts work (and the main differences between PPS and PPLNS).

Kano is a FAR better option than F2/Ant/etc.  Jonny is far better too.  We WILL hit blocks and when we do you'll get paid appropriately (it'll just be a larger chunk than the small ones you get from bigger pools).

It's too bad he feels the way he does.  Of course, the only other post of his on this thread is asking if I'd consider donating 2BTC and a portion of the block reward to him because he was caught up in some escrow scam.  By the way, if he really only does have 500k shares as he states, if we found a block right now, that'd translate into an expected payout of 0.00015335BTC.  We're not exactly talking about breaking the bank.  It's not even the minimum payout threshold.

I am not a victim of that scam. I was just asking if you can extend your hand out but stopped nagging since you neglected replying to my comment.

My shares are low because I joined your pool only for about 42 minutes and left it after finding that your last block was found on 16th Dec. No offense to your pool if you think I hurt you so badly but I need to join a popular pool where chances of finding a block is much faster. Cheers.

I am extending my hand out - to those folks who wish to mine on my pool.

You most certainly didn't hurt me.  What you did do, however, is claim that my pool is the unluckiest pool you've ever seen:
Such an unlucky pool I have ever seen in my life!
I refuted that claim by stating that in fact this pool is quite lucky having found its first block at only about 28% of expected shares.  Also, that we are in fact only 79% of expected shares for this round.  All you looked at was:
I have seen Jonny's pool going upto 1.2Ph to 2Ph during Christmas and New Year still not a single block has been found till today and I have accumulated my 500k shares there just being greedy. -_-
You are basing your understanding on "OMG!  f2pool is the best because they are the biggest!  Look how many blocks they solve!"

If the variance of a small pool is too much for you, which it certainly appears to be the case, then please do move somewhere you feel more comfortable.  As before, I highly recommend kano's pool.

Yeah bro. If you want to earn quick money then join a "legit" PPS pool instead. They will give you money for your shares. This pool is not for impatient like you.

Please join Antpool and whatever pool you feel like and leave here because we will get some more BTC after one miner leaves. ;D

You should read a little bit more on how bitcoin mining work. So far, Jonny Pool is a lot more lucky than F2Pool.  ;)

Go back on a pool that use SPV and that dont care about the community loll

One thing folks, I think we should refrain from being super negative towards users who might not agree or like jonny's pool.

It's up to each individual to decide how they want to earn their money - because in the end we are talking money here.

We just have to do our best to explain why bravo-mining or kano or ck solo or wherever is a better option.

If the person decides to go elsewhere that's on them.

My opinion this is a great pool.
I wish i had more hash power to support more.
Tax time looking to get at least 2 S7s and one will be here and the other will be at CKpool.
I like them both so i will support them both.

If you have something bad to say about a pool try talking to who runs it first. Try being a adult.

+1.  I welcome everyone to make their own decisions on where to point gear.  After all, it is in fact your gear :).  As I wrote in the very first post of this thread, my pool is here to offer you another option of where to hash.  If you happen to post factually incorrect nonsense here, however, I will certainly correct those misstated items.  That way hopefully people can learn from those mistakes.

Great gods those S7s are freaking loud!  I really like the exhaust venting right into your HVAC.  Nice setup.  Oh, and those EVGA PSUs are great choices, too.

Thanks guys and those S7 are loud compared to the S5. Initially I tried to put one of those s7's in a spare bedroom and then in the living room these things are just so loud I had to try to think outside of the box. I hope that others might get inspired to find ways of running s7 at their house as well, so that we can help build the blockchain.

FYI: I have also spent days researching fans trying to quiet them down but there's nothing available.

That's a good idea, I never thought of down clock them. What frequency are you running them at and what temperature are they running at? What is the temperature of the room they're in?

Both Kano and Bitminter have had an AWESOME day today -- and I was thinking about renting some hashing power and throwing it this way...

Anyone else interested in joining in to BREAK this block???

Kano's pool has been KILLING it today.  Someone should sneak over there and just steal one of their blocks.  They'd never notice at this rate!  :D

Looks like the first promo for mmpool.org ends in five minutes still no block.

Then the compac stick  one starts.

In the morning the Jonny bravo one kicks. In.

I have added my 1th/s hash power to your pool.

Can you tell me what is the % of chances for finding a block with such hash power? ;D

That's happened a few times now... and just for the record again, I am not the jbravo user on kano's pool.  My user account there is the same as it is here on the forum: jonnybravo0311.

Don't forget everyone... today Phil is running a promo on top of the one I've already got going!  If you find a block before 9pm EST today, in addition to the 1.5BTC bonus from me, Phil will also be giving a prize worth at least 0.1BTC to the block finder.

Let's crack that block!!!

For how many days will my shares stack before getting destroyed?

I just bough a 1th/s from nicehash for 10 minutes. Lets see if it can find a block. ;)

They are always gonna be good. But the more share we make to get a block the smaller your reward will be.  ;)

okay I don't understand your question.  this is a shared pool not a solo pool.

if you mine  solo or mine on a solo pool.  As soon as you stop mining you are done and if you did not hit a block it is over.

If you mine here as soon as you stop mining your shares still have value for a few days at least.

back to your solo question

if you mine 1  day you are about

 5160.000   to 1   with    1th
  516.800    to 1 with    10th
    51.680    to 1 with  100th
      5.168    to 1 with 1000th

What does the numbers in bold represent?

Number of miners?

Or number of miners with corresponding similar hash powers?

If you want to find a block by yourself, don't do it here (blocks that are found are shared among everyone).  At 1TH it would literally take YEARS to find a block (if you ever found one at all, however it is luck based and you *COULD* find one tomorrow too).  But you'd have to mine solo - which isn't done here.

Probably he rented about 800TH - 1PH (the pool was around 900TH when the block was found). The pool was on that hashing power for an hour or so...

I am really sorry for what I had stupidly remarked earlier. I was in bad temper due to some personal problems and I just bombarded it here too! :-[ So I take back my rude remark.

Btw congrats to kilo17 for this achievement. At least I got some share for his ultimate effort. I am also thinking of coming back here and sharing some of my powers to repent for my remark.

Also I have one question before I start: Suppose I have a valid share of 100K today. Will those shares become zero after 15 days if I do not mine from tomorrow and a block is not found within 15 days? And will I get paid for all the shares if I mine everyday until a block is found?

I have read his post (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1293193.msg13337241#msg13337241) but if Jonny can help me make that explanation more simpler for me. (I know he is angry with me but I'm really sorry for what happened earlier :( )

Hi Indianacoin,

First, I'd like to clear something up: I am not angry with you.  I was simply correcting things you stated that were untrue.  This pool has found 2 blocks since I started it; both blocks were under 100% of expected shares.  The first block was found at 27.41% and the second block found this morning was at 88.27%.  The pool's total luck so far is 161.38% (113,383,403,265 actual shares of 182,982,721,716 expected shares).

Also, I tried explaining how PPLNS works in another post here on this thread.  You can find that explanation here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1293193.msg13342849#msg13342849.  Hopefully that'll help you out.

https://i.imgur.com/773LiiV.png

I find it incredibly absurd that somebody would target this pool for any kind of attack.  We've found 2 blocks and the pool's liquid assets aren't even worth the ransom this guy is demanding.

Please make sure you've got a backup configured just in case this attack does occur.

Seriously... those guys must be bored out of their minds or exceptionally desperate to make a couple bucks.  As for protection, I've got minimal access to the pool's servers.  The database is not exposed to any outside ports, only allowing connections from internal private IPs.  I've modified the stratum code to address known exploits.  I know the user accounts, and who's actually hashed on my pool.  I take regular snapshots of the database and will ensure I grab one prior to the time mentioned in the threat.

I'm hopeful this is nothing more than an empty threat.  I guess we'll find out tomorrow.

Friggin' keyboard tough-guys; I hate cowardly, sniveling little brats who talk big when hiding behind their computer screens but wouldn't dare to even look you in the eye if you ever met in 3D.

Stupid punks - Steve Martin said it best years ago, "People like that should be taken out and maimed."

Bravo to you, Jonny, for doing the bitcoin community right in how you're running your pool.  You are to be commended for that.

Oh and re: a possible DDoS, good luck to them.

It's not going to get them anything.

If they do hit - after its over we should have a hash party and get the pool up in hash rate and kick over another block as a big old FU!  :)

All,

I'm going to restart the stratum server.  Your miners will fail over.  It'll be about 2 minutes.

For everyone who has not opted for auto payouts please do a manual withdrawal.  With the potential of an attack against the pool I want you all to withdraw your balances.  That way if an attack is successful the attacker won't gain anything.

Hey Jonny...

I noticed that I must have not set up a payout threshold -- so I DID opt for the manual...

Just not sure if I did it correctly, because the page didn't seem to work right...

Thanks again -- what an INCREDIBLE start to an AWESOME pool!!!

Also -- another "just curious" question...

When the payout DID come in on my trezor account -- it came in before 4 recent transactions (still in the unconfirmed stage) that had already shown up...

Isn't Trezor time-stamped?

I've just never seen that before...

I imagine that Jonny is scrambling right now in the midst of the "perfect storm"...

Oh -- and I figured out my trezor's timestamp issue...

apparently -- it didn't recognize bravo's payout until it was "confirmed" -- while still showing the other 4 mining pool payouts while still "unconfirmed"...

No biggie -- just delayed gratification -- lol...

okay I managed to set auto with draw at 0.1  and the account has  more then that.

I could not get manual to work

but I hope the auto withdrawal will take the fund out in time.

I got it to work.  did a full manual withdrawal

After we get through the current threat of DDoS I plan on tossing more hash this way.

Yes I guess when an account is created, the auto withdrawal option is always off. So everyone had to change that. But once changed the withdrawal happens within seconds (at least in my case).

Thanks a lot Jonny. This pool is by far the best around. Let keep it going. We can get another block for sure soon if everyone contributes with just a little more hashing power :)

So we were working on block 393001 but blockchain shows :

Is this correct or maybe I don't fully understand.

I see we are currently working on block 393008, which matches up with what shows on the block explorers.  It does sometimes take a couple of seconds for the front end to get updated; however, the stratum servers are updated and start new work immediately on notification of the block change.

It would be great if we could somehow get more people into this pool, so we could find a block every week..

Ok, so after a bit of hassle (going between pool and email account), I managed to change the auto payout and do a manual payout and can confirm it is being confirmed in my wallet as I type.

I do have a big question for you Jonny.
What is the variance that is reported in the round transactions? How has it effected my payout?

Title: Re: Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com)
Post by: jonnybravo0311 on January 12, 2016, 03:22:01 PM
At this point, it hasn't.  The pool is setup to be PPLNS where N is 5 times difficulty.  Since the pool has only found 2 blocks and it is below the 5N threshold, the numbers being reported don't make a whole lot of sense.  I'm sorry for the confusion here - it's the way the MPOS front end works and reports data.  If the pool had 20PH/s where we were finding multiple blocks a day, then things would be good and those numbers would make far more sense than they do now.  I might even just turn off those pages on the site until we've found enough blocks for the numbers to make sense ;).

Thanks for the reply.

I was just a little confused as it also says that my round shares and my PPLNS shares are massively different. I noticed that I got a lower payout than others with less round shares than mine. That was all.

Please don't take this the wrong way as I'm not complaining but just wanted to understand how its worked out.

Title: Re: Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com)
Post by: bctmke on January 12, 2016, 03:47:03 PM
Yeah with the slowness of the pool (ie the lower hashrate) a lot of the data doesn't come into play.

Its the same reason why a number of us had identical share counts and everyone's variance matched.

Jonny - probably a good idea to hide some of that data just to keep it from being confusing.

Right now NH rentals are kind of costly.  Once the price drops a little I'll be renting more :)

tomorrow they should drop.  in the meantime if you have a miner that you own pointing at them (nicehash) will earn you .0053 or .0054 a th  which is very good.

then in a day or so you can point them back here. and buy some hash with the extra coin earned to point here.

I switched my avalon6's off jonny's pool and I am pointing at  nicehash.

I still have some compac sticks pointed here

patience is the key to renting from nicehash

right now  rents are high like .0051  that is really high

a good price for rental is .0046 or .0047

to tell a good price look at screen shot  of this page  I highlighted price for 1 th it is .004841  with nice hash fee of 3%

0.00469577 is the breakeven price    so if you rent at .0046 or .0047 you are fine .  if you rent at .0052  you are over paying.

that number changes in about 1 day when the difficulty changes.

Wait until tomorrow because with the change in the network's difficulty, the renting cost will go down. At the moment a good price is 0.0051 Price BTC/TH/Day but tomorrow will be lower for sure. So wait until tomorrow to rent some hash ;)

Really that low price ??? Never managed to rent lower than 0.0049 :( Currently I'm renting at 0.005 (started at 0.0049 but had to increase a little) which seems to be good at the moment...

actually that's a solid plan (let your miners get rented at NH when prices are high).  I've never actually done that - but I certainly should.

I'll keep things as is for now but I'll watch the prices and be prepared next time.

All we want is 0.5 BTC

If it does not show in the blockchain by 12PM PST the bounty is raised to 2 BTC.

We will not stop, we will just let it run til we see you are online again and hit it again.

I am telling your mother!

Why even bother hitting a small pool anyway?

I request op for opting a Cloudflare CDN contract just in case he comes back again. They will prevent and filter all suspicious traffics instantly leading him to go elsewhere. ;)

If possible note down the IP address and contact all Botnet providers to prosecute the details of that IP.

Is there something which can prevent him to start DDoS attack again? >:(

Title: Re: Jonny's Mining Emporium (bravo-mining.com)
Post by: underachieved on January 13, 2016, 02:26:31 PM
Yeah with the slowness of the pool (ie the lower hashrate) a lot of the data doesn't come into play.

Its the same reason why a number of us had identical share counts and everyone's variance matched.

Jonny - probably a good idea to hide some of that data just to keep it from being confusing.

Right now NH rentals are kind of costly.  Once the price drops a little I'll be renting more :)

tomorrow they should drop.  in the meantime if you have a miner that you own pointing at them will earn you .0053 or .0054 a th  which is very good.

I switched my avalon6's off jonny's pool and I am pointing at  nicehash.

I still have some compac sticks pointed here

I am considering renting for the first time. What is a good rental price? What should be factored?

patience is the key to renting from nicehash

right now  rents are high like .0051  that is really high

a good price for rental is .0046 or .0047

to tell a good price look at screen shot  of this page  I highlighted price for 1 th it is .004841  with nice hash fee of 3%

0.00469577 is the breakeven price    so if you rent at .0046 or .0047 you are fine .  if you rent at .0052  you are over paying.

that number changes in about 1 day when the difficulty changes.

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty

Nice drop. Thanks for the advice.

Nice-west hash has very high rates at the moment so instead of renting at .0049  by waiting  longer we may be able to rent at .0045

this afternoon.

Cloudflare is an idea - but its pricey and it can also slow down the bitcoin process (adds extra time into the transactions).  Unfortunately upping the fee doesn't work so well with the few blocks we're finding.

The bounty has been raised to 2 BTC!

CloudFlare will not help as the IP has already been saved and can be defined by the stratum URL (no masking is allowed)

Vultr Holdings will soon remove the account and server due to continued attacks.
Please note... This is not my account.  It is yet another newbie created to demand I pay a ransom.

Hey asshat - the pool has a total liquidity of about 0.05BTC from the fees and donations I've received... I truly don't understand your motivation here.  I mean if I had like 15PH and was making some coin then I get why you'd be interested in extorting me.  But seriously?  We've solved 2 whole blocks.

Of course I've checked my PMs, and I'm sure I could indeed figure out who your supposed miners are on my pool if I chose.  Speaking of information, you'll certainly know that my pool has typically averaged about 25TH/s except for the few miners, including myself, who decide to throw some rental hash at the pool in hopes of hitting a block.  The pool is a tiny blip on the mining radar.  I have no idea why you are even bothering to attack it and thinking that you're going to get me to pay you coins.

It truly boggles my mind that you're this determined to attack this pool at its nascent stage.  As I've written, the pool's liquid assets are minimal - even if I were so inclined as to pay you, the pool's assets just don't support the ransom you're demanding from me.

We have members who will send us all info if it goes private.

In fact, 4 members part of our group have commented on this, and were mining as of this morning on the pool.

This was a TARGETED attack, NOT a RANDOM attack.

There are 3 things that are certain in this situation.
1 - You are a dumbass
2 - If he runs the pool private and sends out the info by PM, it would not take long to figure out which ones are on your team.
3 - You guys are sorry hackers otherwise you would be hitting big places with big money instead of asking for $200-$900 in BTC. I call that a joke in it self (just like you- a big fuckin joke)

Site is - pool isn't.

Unsure when that'll be.  But at least there's network visibility again :)

Everyone,

I've been working all day to get things back up and running.  The stratum servers are not up, and the front end is there so you can verify things.  As you can imagine, I've made considerable changes behind the scenes.  Rest assured that all of your shares, expected earnings, and any balances you had are all safe and secure.

I'll be continuing to work tomorrow to ensure everything is good to go and will be performing some more tests.  I will be providing updates as I progress.

Thanks for all of your patience.
