Why people try to hack bitcointalk accounts as we know they are going to get -ve trust and the account cannot join any signature campaign or do any other scams after getting marked as hacked. Why??

Yeah I also got someone like that in my skype. She is blocked immediately after a few sentences of conversation.

Yeah today i also got a strange skype username msg.

But username was different .She also started with same messages.

So there must be a connection between all of us. The targets are us users at bitcointalk

No, these bots don't target Bitcointalk users. I have recieved these messages before in addition to people in other communities I'm a part of. The bots poll random names and try to find one that replies to them so they can sell their service.
Just block them when you come across them.

That is why i never click a link sent to me. i have to hover to it and check the click and sometimes even google what it is.
hackers learns social engineering to which i think is the best of what they can learn.

a lot of accounts have been getting hacked recently lost my ajw7989 account as well about a month ago. So far still have not gotten it back or a response from an admin.  Hopefully you can get it back quicker

using the secret question to reset your pw will lock your account. its a known flaw.

can I ask why? I think it is used to help us to avoid being got stucked outside instead of locking us again

In a database leak secret questions were leaked. Even though they were hashed they could easily be cracked and could lead to a lot of accounts being compromised.
Hense, theymos had anyone using the secret question feature's account locked automatically to stop it becoming a problem.

well then removing the secret question part may prevent them from being locked again. At least, that's what I am thinking

Please update here if you get the letyouearn account back, so I can change the rating. I haven't come across any more info on the person behind the phishing attack ( or whatever you want to call it).

It's a lot easier to auto-lock a feature rather than remove it all together, plus it can be perhaps seen as a honeypot for any would be hackers. Either way, I'm sure theymos has his reasons.

The whois information for one of the websites involved was posted on knightdk's post here (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1340882.0) I believe, however the information is likely to be invalid if he has any sense.

Resetting your password via secret question would be a good way to get the hacker out of there, until and admin can address the issue though!

In letyouearn's situation, locking the account is helping him.

His account got hacked, and in order to stop the hacker from accessing the account, resetting the password with the secret question locks everyone out until an admin can address it.
Unless I'm missing something, locking the account was in everyone's best interest until it's back in the original owner's hands.

It really affect my expenses which i was managing with the help of my signature campaign payouts. , Currently, I am living away from the house in a rented flat whose rent is 4000 INR a month. At this point it is probably just a waiting game unfortunately. Use the spare account you got to do business and earn with. It also might be helpful to learn PGP to protect your identity further.

From this, I have learned and prepared for myself a back up account so my business won't be affected by these problems. PGP can be helpful in proving your identity indeed ;D

its definitely going to take a while. My account was hacked about a month ago and I still have not received a response or my account back. My account was a legendary account too.... I wonder how so many of these accounts got hacked.

As per my knowledge , replying to pms doesn't takes much time. If I was a admin , I wouldn't take much time to do these types of stuffs. I only believe in immediate action . No matter how much is the work load.

IIRC recovering hacked accounts dosn't have any priority for theymos, because the vicitm always partly bears the blame himself.

They need more mods helping with this. If theymos is caught up doing everything else to the extent legit hero/legend members who have been hacked have to wait months to get their account back whilst that said account could be being used to defraud other innocent forum members then you need a few more mods with powers to

1. freeze accounts
2. transition those accounts back to the original user.

really the original email used to register the account should be held in a field on the db even if the user later decides to change it to another email address.

also email verification should be required to change anything about the account. Currently it seems hackers once they have hacked the user and pass here which may not be hard since they already have your username and two this kind of forum is not really that secure as has been shown on numerous occasions... they have full control of your account. They do not need to access to your email to have full control and use it to defraud and scam others on this board.

Its really low on theymos' priority list. Think of him recovering anyone's account as a favor rather than a job that he has to do, its the user's fault for getting hacked anyway.

Getting hacked is not essential their fault.

Why email verification is not done before changing account details and password? Can't they enable this thing which helps whenever an account details are changed, message should be sent to emial and through which our account can be retrieved.....

Seems, it is confirmed that we will not receive our account back. I am really depressed due to waiting , waiting and waiting for the theymos response. As theymos have opened a thread for recovering hacked , lost accounts, then why he is not notifying our topic and take a look over all the proofs and proceed further.

That is because recovering accounts is not the admin priorities. You should understand that he is also a human, and not a robot that can be online for 24/7. Well, I know because it took him approximately 3 months to notice my thread/PMs to recover/unlocked my account. Also, you should periodically send him an email/PM. Good luck.

But for the admin it takes 1 minute to recover the account there should be special moderators here who could do this besides the admin to speed it up.

Unless something has changed while I was absent we are allowed to leave positive ratings if we disagree with the last negative ratings on someones account. I think it should be used carefully to avoid arguments on trust profiles, but I see no such problem in your case.
