If Bitcoin was made illegal by your government and the punishment was very bad, would you still use it, would you still openly support it?

I would actually move country if that happened if I owned a lot of bitcoin and would seek refuge in a pro Bitcoin country. I don't think I could live in a backward country that would ban bitcoin as it is too ingrained now in my DNA lol.

Yes I absolutely would continue to use bitcoin if my country banned it. I HODL, what would I be supposed to do, give up my coins?

Fuck the government.

I would continue to use it as I see no harm on it , I can understand why having a gun or taking drugs is illegal but having a currency isn't harmful a all . Just because they made a law about it , doesn't mean they are right. Making it illegal won't change anything for me , I can deposit them into my Neteller account and trade them for my local currency as usual and no one will know about it.

I think I will still use it but of course will be limited by how my activities can be tracked. Perhaps using a portable device at places with free and register-free internet? However, most likely my government is not advance enough to block all bitcoin-related sites.

I know for sure no any government can banned bitcoin or declare using bitcoin illegal as they can't track whether we are using bitcoin or not. However if they do somehow i will try to gather few like minded guys and start promoting the benifits of using bitcoin and try to convince government to change their decision.

I always exchange the bitcoins into fiats as it is not yet allowed in my country. BTC is yet to be made aware of. If it is advertised, then so many unemployed would be employed. The experts can come forward to convince the government by explaining the core benefits of it. If BTC gets in, the economy would be wealthy. A next new generation can be seen now. Wish to happen so.

You cannot use it openly, like being a merchant and sticking a Bitcoin symbol in the window, but you can still accept it as a payment

option, and hoard it. Then you take it and go on a Bitcoin holiday in a country where it is accepted. Just imagine all the possibilities.

The forbidden fruit always taste the sweetest, or so they say.  ;D

I would still use it because I would use it for good as with fiat it is the same for everyone: You are what you do with your money, not what your money does for you. :)

Now if my government had control over bitcoin. Well that is a whole different story. :-[

I don't know whether, I'll support or not. If bitcoin was banned in my country. But i'm sure its better to use bitcoin than fiat currency. And i'll use even, if the punishment was not much bad!

To be honest I don't know the answer. If Bitcoin was declared illegal and punishable by the law I would probably be very careful and I would not telling everyone that I use it. I wouldn't change it for fiat through my bank account so that I don't leave traces. But  I hope this will never happen.

I am not sure, this would depend on how illegal and what are the penalties imposed for transacting in bitcoins illegally (if it were made illegal). I honestly don't know how they would be able to track if the transaction was spent by me if I had not given any KYC details or any personal details attached to the address that I'm transacting in. I would always go by the law though, but since it's not illegal yet I find Bitcoins very nice to use.

Illegal means you can be punished or even go to jail. Especially that part is not appealing to me since it would mean you face jail time for something that silly.
So no if it was illegal i would make sure to stop using it...

Yes sure i would be using bitcoins doent matter if its legal or illegal by the government in my country because i love using bitcoins and cannot stop using it because of legality plus bitcoins has qualities by which no one can catch me weather i am actually using bitcoins or not,so no problem for me.

I am making money with Bitcoin through trading. I will never let something come in between that. So yes, I will definitely keep using Bitcoin. In case of an exchange requiring documents from some one in a different country, then I simply make one of my family members outside the country sign up there.

I don't know if I personally would keep using Bitcoin if it was made illegal by the government, however I definitely would have a bit of an interest in avoiding the eyes of the law. I'm confident that a majority of people who already use Bitcoin likely wouldn't care and would continue to use Bitcoin even after it was declared illegal.

I would use it because i don't see any reasonable cause to made Bitcoin as illegal currency, in other hand we can easily convert the bitcoins into cash and fiat and as its decentralized currency, governments couldn't ban it.

I would use Bitcoin even if its get banned by our government, because i think there is no any risk to use it and also i prefer using this crypto currency than using fiat and other currencies.

I can't see how it would be made illegal but if it was I would still use it. I mainly use bitcoin to remain anonymous, if it was illegal it would be very difficult to find out exactly who is using it so I don't see how they would find out it is me using it.

It is very hard to imagine any democratic government could ban Bitcoin. They will sure try to regulate as much as they can and tax it when Bitcoin grow big and become mainstream, but even that will not be easy task for govs. Personally, to be honest, i dont know if i would use Bitcoin if it become illegal. I have wife and kids, not too bad job so risking to be charged for something what could be punished with years of prison slavery would be insane.

I still want to use it as it was my way of earning extra money.  But if it will be made illegal by our government, I think it would be hard not to obey the law and their rules.  If there is a way to still earn through bitcoin I will gamble to it.  But I think it would be hard to exchange btc to fiat currency.  Maybe the only available way is to purchase products online.

Nope, If there are jail time involved, I would not use it. I have a family and a full time job to think of and no technology is worth the risk to go to jail and lose all of that. I would be one of the voices going up against laws like this, but I would never endanger my family.

The bitcoins I own now, would be send to friends in other countries where bitcoin is legal in exchange for legal fiat currencies. ^smile^

These would  be the best way on redirecting  your bitcoin on  other  friends  which country doesnt ban bitcoin and you could still able to benefit from all your  bitcoin in terms  of cash. As  you said  i wont risk  myself hence  i have  already  family  and  i wont like  to leave them  because  im being  imprisoned.

Nope, I'd definitely stop using bitcoin. If that would bring me to jail, then I think it's useless to earn bitcoin if you would just use the money for your bail and after all you'll still go to jail later on. But if the punishment will just be confiscating your bitcoin, then I think it's just fine, I can hide it and if they still found it, then fine, I'll let them have it.

It is really obvious that if it's illegal of course you wouldn't do it. Maybe some people will do it, those people who have enough guts to do illegal activities like what you're saying. If you're still a sane person, I'm sure you will not do this kind of act because your life might be the at risk when you do this.

I don't have much in my wallet but how much I have is my own earning and I can't afford to loss my bitcoin. and I also have many small small business like faucet and bitcoin giveaway subscription so before leaving bitcoin I have to stop all my business otherwise bitcoin would continuously come in my wallet and all those amount would go waste because i am no longer going to use bitcoin.

what kind of punishment are we talking about, so far i have not yet seen any country to have that big a punishment for using bitcoin (or maybe i have not seen it).

In my country, the law is very strict. If my government really made Bitcoin illegal, I have to say, unfortunately, I will have to throw away all my Bitcoin and stay away from Bitcoin. I might join some other Altcoins if they only ban Bitcoin and not all the cryptocurrencies.

However, I do not think my government will make Bitcoin illegal because my country is a tech-savvy country. To add on, there is good (sometimes bad but mostly positive) news about Bitcoin in the local newspaper every now and then. I live in Singapore.

Even the law here in my country is tough enough and they are implementing the punishment greatly. I would still going to keep on supporting and use bitcoins, because I am not related to any illegal activity and I can prove that in court whenever the government is going to accuse me for using bitcoins. Because having it doesn't mean you are an illegal activity doer.

The idea of bitcoin becoming illegal is only going to drive short term thinkers out of the market. Presume it is illegal now and act accordingly and you will have your eggs in a row when the day comes for the axe. Makes no sense to me to worry about this potential when we should be working it like it is already illegal.
Times change and what was acceptable is now the virus the world wants to stamp out,the reason few think this way is age and not knowing how history works.

Lots of variables here. But Bitcoin can change also. I use an altcoin called NAV that can sync/stake over tor. This could be added to BTC if needed. Would use a non USA exchange to buy and get a non USA Debit card to use it for spending.

Depends on how extreme they get on enforcement. Would having posted here and used a foreign bank issued card that is known to allow BTC be enough to  have to fight a criminal court case? I might just move to gold/silver but that would be IMHO be made illegal if BTC is outlawed.

I am not sure if I will continue to use it but I still want to.  It is the only way I could earn more income through bitcoin.  So if our government will ban it or will tag it as illegal, then it would be hard for me to break that law.  And if it would be illegal then it is hard also to convert the bitcoin I earned to fiat currency.  But I do not think that the government will ban it because it is absolutely legal here in our country.

Alcohol was absolutely legal in the US prior prohibition in the 1920s too. What I am saying is - laws can be changed. In fact they are being changed all the time.

Bitcoin is still pretty insignificant phenomena so big economy world treat Bitcoin more like a flavor of the month asset than real deal. But if bitcoin will grow bigger laws can be changed too.

Have to vote "not sure" on this one.  I love bitcoin, but I think if the IRS or some other alphabet agency were to hunt down bitcoin users, I'd probably have to pass.  There are just too many other investment opportunities out there that ARE legal.  Why bother with the risk of getting fined or going to jail or whatever?  It really just wouldn't be worth it to me.  But it would depend on what the penalty is.  And while this is a good question, I truly don't think bitcoin is going to be criminalized anytime soon by the US gov't (which is where I am).

Stranger, more horrible things have happened, though.

Well, that's good if you are still willing to use bitcoin even if your government might consider it as illegal...Supposed that this really happens, I think it's not easy to dispose or use our coins and profit...Exchanges also might start to close since they will be the biggest target...How will we use our coins? VPN's could hide you but you would also need to hide your money...  :)

Bitcoin in my country is legal for some product like electricity, phone bill but for other products is prohibited. However, many people use bitcoin for transaction that is not public because it is difficult to trace. In indonesia the legal currency is Rupiah. Using bitcoin for such products is not ilegal but for others I have never tried.

I guess it is not illegal in your country for anything but it is just not accepted for buying those stuff as there are not much places accepting bitcoin in asian countries though there are a lot in european countries.
And i feel no country would ban bitcoin if they come to know about its potential and its use.

Plenty of activities have been made illegal by the government but a lot of people are still doing it. They don't get in jail unless they get caught on the act by someone who isn't loyal enough to them to not report them. The same thing would happen to Bitcoin. We can all hide our identity but if somebody has a strong evidence that we're using Bitcoins, then they can sue us in no time. I'd still use Bitcoin at that point, even though.

Let's be honest, a lot of illegal stuffs are being done on the Internet especially on the deep web. A lot of people do this all the time and do you see the news flooding about cyber crime? The answer is no.

Maybe it's because their identity is hidden, the government doesn't actually care about all of these illegal stuffs going on, or maybe the government's cyber army's force is too weak to trace users. Bitcoin will just be one of those illegal stuffs going on in the Internet if it's been made illegal by the government.

I'm sure that my government can't control all Internet traffic in the country.
Also, I will not hold BTC on my computer or in my country, so they can't order me what I will do out of my country :)

How hard they go after BTC use is a factor. If SWAT is raiding my home as if I was a ISIS member just because they found my real name from posting here and see a coinbase tx in my checking account.

This is not impossible if government declares BTC use is a sign of Domestic Terrorism and intent to overthrow the Federal Reserve. Today tinfoil hat crazy, 5 years from now...   ???  IRS declares BTC use is illegal tax avoidance with fines and jail time for simple possession of a BTC wallet.dat.

On the other hand if they don't actively search out BTC users but just add it on as an 'enhancement' to other crimes like they can for using a computer and other BS charges to convince you to 'voluntarily' plea bargain. I would probable be much more discreet but still use it.

Even goverment banned bitcoin. Bitcoin still can use the bitcoin becouse its anonimity.event goverment can not rule bitcoin and the users. By the way goverment do not have any good reason to banned bitcoin. If they banned bitcoin becouse it was used in illegal activity, they should banned their fiat too becouse ma be somebody use it for illegal activity. They can not judge the currency becouse of users illegal activity. They should judge the users not the currency.

I too will use it. I would either hold and exchange into fiats when i see a reasonable profit. If people come to know the benefits of bitcoins, they still would go ahead and use it in offline at least. I am sure on it. Everyone is looking for earning a bit or more every day. So when it is promised to give profit, I am sure each would at least give a try to it. Hope this is accepted by the government soon.

People  do really have different  decisions  regarding on this thing. If bitcoin would  be  illegal  here  in my country i would  still use it though  hence  theres a lot of  ways to make  transaction even more anonymous. If your government would   try to monitor your  browsing    you could still always  use tor  with  tweaks in able  not  to be traced  by  your  isp's. As  long  you could able  to hide your self   theres  nothing to worry about.

I don't know if it would even be remotely worth using Bitcoin if my government made it illegal, and to be honest chances are it likely wouldn't be worth the trouble. I'm not interested in having the government stick their nose into my affairs and if I can avoid having them start looking at me then it's all the better in my opinion.

There is a difference...It's easier to work if there is not much things to care about...When you are doing illegal things you would need to move carefully which I think would start to slow you down on earning...  :) Also, if government is going to make bitcoin illegal it won't just monitor your moves, it will also monitor bitcoin movement, including money that is involve in transacting bitcoin... It would be a very difficult life doing the hiding with that, one false move and you're jailed...  :)

That is one of the good idea there since if bitcoin would be illegal in our country well surely be facing some little struggle when we cash out it, but still i think even if this coin becamw illegal i think there still more people gonna use it since we can earn profits for this one and government cannot still trace us out, we are anonymous here and we can still hide our identity so we can get more secured to be caught by the local authorities.

Why not, governments have some stupid laws, smart person always know what is good and what is bad. I don`t need government to control my mind and tell me what can I do and what I can`t do.
I search a bit for some interesting " government laws", lets check how smart they are:
- It is illegal to die in the Houses of Parliament.
- The head of any dead whale found on the British coast automatically becomes the property of the King, and the tail of the Queen.
- In France, it is illegal to name a pig Napoleon.
- In Florida, unmarried women who parachute on a Sunday could be jailed.

I will find a way to use bitcoins, just stupid people will fallow whole government laws. They have some very stupid ones, I have my logic of what is good and bad and I`m going with that.

Yes if bitcoin is already illegal and there punishment was so bad I probably would not use it because it would be too risky. But actually bitcoin some countries are not ilegal entirely due to business problems bitcoin can still be used.

I would stay using it and they cannot stop me doing this!

I think it's highly improbable that government would make btc illegal, I think they would make it expensive for btc owner (lots of taxes) but not illegal.
Anyway I would still use it, I would move to another country.

I am aware of some staggeringly stupid laws around the world, but most these are relics of the past kept in books more of an easter eggs type than real law.
Do you actually know the case of someone braking these laws and being prosecuted? I doubt it will happen.

Same with Bitcoin there is zero logic behind putting prohibition on BTC. It will only create Bitcoin related organized underground services and societies.

Maybe that could happen to a friend. But I think it can not be done for the next 5 years, as the growth of the bitcoin makin in the low stage so it will be very difficult for bitcoin is accepted by most companies or individuals. 5 years is a stage where the bitcoin will show his true identity and after that it will be very many people who immigrate to use bitcoin because it already know the benefits

Suppose that bitcoin is illegal and I still openly support it, do you think Bitcoin will have value in my country? I think not and it will be hard for my part to convert it to Fiat as no one will have an interest in a currency which is illegal to my country. Also even if I support it don't you think it will be a "game over" for my part? As the government can also stop or ban all the wallets which support cryptocurrency? Its easy for the government to disable us from the use of digital currency.

This is a tough question to answer. Personally, I would still support Bitcoin and everyone who uses it, even if it was made illegal by my government and was punishable by law. I would not have as much of an involvement with the cryptocurrency, since it would have harsh consequences. The one thing that I wonder would be how the government would enforce the law since Bitcoin is meant to be anonymous and if they would go after every person who still uses it.

Bitcoin in the first place was designed to by-pass government and its snoopy agents from meddling into people's finances and already it is a hugh success. The government and those financial houses that have been feeding fat on people's hard earned money are simply fighting lost battle and it matters very little whatever they choose to call bitcoin, we know its other name is freedom.

This was a question that I gave much thought to before jumping fully in to bitcoin.
My country proclaims "freedom for the people".
"By the people for the people"....blah blah and so forth.
I would be active in keeping it legal.
I spent many years becoming a law abiding citizen, (it wasn't always an easy transition) maybe a decade in the making so it isn't something I'd give up easily.
Freedom isn't perfect and our execution of democracy sometimes leaves much to be desired.
Bitcoin represents an opportunity for freedom and an exploration of economic independence, the United States should continue to allow that exploration.

Anyway goverment can not rule bitcoin and the users. Do not scare bitcoin have anonimity that protect and keep the privacy of the users. That is one advantage of bitcoin that I like. If a government is going to ban bitcoin, then definitely there's a great reason for it..It's either it's becoming a threat to the economy or people starts to misbehave because of it... There is always a limitation in everything, including freedom, so we should never brag about a system when we are a part of it, if a government impose something, I'm sure there's a good reason for it, coz if there is none, well, you know what will happen next...  :)

I think it mainly going to depend on what kind of rules they are going to set to make it illegal, like for example it can be a simple prohibition about businesses accepting bitcoin or not, or it can be more extreme like no users is allowed to have bitcoin!

in the first case I would continue using bitcoin but in the second I think I will stop using it but will surely hold bitcoin.

Title: Re: If Bitcoin was made illegal by your government would you still use it?

I guess it would depend on how serious the government is about it, like do offenders risk jail or just fines and also on my family situation, whether I'm married and have kids. If I'm married and have kids that depend on me and messing with Bitcoin means I'm risking jail, I definitely wouldn't try to be a rebel, I would just forget about Bitcoin. On the other hand if I'm by myself and the worst I'm risking is a hefty fine, then maybe I would still use it.

I wouldn't, but trust me... Many people would. Governments always wanted the control over everything they possibly could. Bitcoin might be one of these things they want to control too, and they will probably try but I'm not sure it'll work. As we grow our community, taking any action against Bitcoin is basically fighting us. We're already over ten million users, which is a huge number.

I don't think my government will just illegalized the use of bitcoin. Bitcoin is fully decentralized and even if they can track some transactions, they wouldn't be able to trace the source or the owner of the bitcoin wallet unless the owner uploaded his identity online. To be honest, I don't think the government will use its resources just for bitcoin. Bitcoin isn't doing any harm to most people. Bitcoin allows us to earn money while at home and I guess that should be enough reason not to ban the use of bitcoins.

Title: Re: If Bitcoin was made illegal by your government would you still use it?

I'm sure if something like that happens people would still find out ways of using it without getting traced by the government, as we can see whether something is banned or not but we still find out some way of using it so that would have been the case with bitcoin too i guess.

I don't know the government of what country that is even interested in declaring bitcoin illegal, because to the best of my understanding, they are equally enthusiastic about this discovery, only they are concerned that its decisions does not pass through their tables or those of their agents, so the myopic ones sees it as a threat, but it is already to late now, bitcoin is  here to stay and the only permission one needs is a pc and an internet connection.

I don think this is really irrelevant because i know for sure that the goverment are also doing things that are really bad for this planet and that is becuase we are all

How i would bitcoin would change if it was outlawed. I would not use BTC backed debit card to buy gas or buy new monitor at newegg with BTC.

if this happens I think it would be because of USD hyperinflation.

I would use bitsquare to buy sell BTC and use the BTC as a way of saving wealth. maybe find a way to locally trade gold/silver for BTC. but gold/silver might become illegal also.

Emergence of bitcoin makes international payment easier and cost effective, no other payment system have done it that nice and cheap, lots of barriers have been taken off and there are many more merits of this technology. As can be expected, there are never-do-well, who would rather divert the use for illegal activities, but that's life for us, we all can never for once see the same picture even while looking at the same photo.

I started using Bitcoin when it was having survival problems and there was a big question mark on its legal status back in 2014 at start. It is banned at many places but it doesn't mean that people are not using it.
It is dependent on us as how we take it if it is made illegal at our premises, but I am sure we will still use it whether legal or illegal.

If bitcoin is declared as illegal and those who are using it will be labeled criminals then I will stop using bitcoin for sure.  I am covered by my countries law and regulations, it serves as my protection and guidelines as my country's citizen.  I have nothing to do but to obey them else I would need to denounce my citizenship and move to other country where bitcoin is legal.

I am riding the same boat with you sir and I totally agree with you. If its illegal then we should stop it otherwise suffer the consequences when caught. But aside from that if it is made illegal then you can no longer convert it to cash in your country and it will be a hard business. But to avoid any issues we should abide the governments rules.

But the question is Why the Government announce that Bitcoin is illegal?
Do you think that Bitcoin is illegal Crypto currency?
Anything bad in it? No way, bitcoin is good for all of us, everyone now using the bitcoin, No one can't found only single person who said that bitcoin is illegal. So how can it possible that our government announce that bitcoin is illegal.
So far as i know our and your government accept the bitcoin or not, but they can't say that bitcoin is illegal.

It's hard to imagine on what rational basis a government would ban/make illegal the use or ownership of bitcoin., much less what the fair degree of punishment would be. That would be like the government banning and making mathematics illegal.

Anyway, if hypothetically my government made bitcoin illegal and I had a significantly substantial amount, I would move to another country where it was legal. If I wanted to come back to my home country, I would just convert it to fiat I guess.

I would want to continue with my Bitcoin activities. At the moment, I probably would not have used it as I don't own much Bitcoin.

However, if I were to own a good amount of Bitcoin I would probably move to another country and continue using Bitcoin there. :)

PS: Why would the government even care about Bitcoin in the first place. I mean it isn't doing any harm. Is it is harder for the authorities to tax Bitcoin?

If Bitcoin was made illegal by your government and the punishment was very bad, would you still use it, would you still openly support it?

My question is who makes government and who makes bitcoins ?

Answer is PEOPLE.

If government think that bitcoin is not safe or overwhelming then government must have to take action against Bitcoin. But bitcoin is decentralized and no government can fight against it, just because its characteristics. importance and value. Bitcoin is based on decentralized technology.

And which countries still not allow bitcoin it means government of such countries are centralized, very weak and corrupted.
So due to fear and outcomes such government not allowing bitcoins.

This condition may bring trouble for Socialism in particular country.

And I would like to know what reason government going to ban bitcoins.

Rather government must have to consider implementation of blockchain technology for better administration and transparent government.

But the the fact, bitcoin not uses for gambling or dice game only. Not all of transactions and activities using bitcoin is negative, still many bitcoin users that using bitcoin as normal currency online. So I think the government can not prohibited someone using bitcoin.

Just a note, I think if a government has successfully made bitcoin illegal and can catch people who violate that law, then the government is actually pretty strong. They can investigate things like that when people can actually hide themselves when using the Internet. I will be amazed seeing a government that powerful.

NOt sure but I if my government ends up actually having the power/capability to trace anyone using bitcoins, then I would probably end up not using Bitcoin anymore. Especially if for some reason, bitcoin is harming my people/country instead of helping then I would choose to support the country. Though I really can't think of a way bitcoin can harm.
Also, if it really was made illegal, then it's quite dangerous going against my government, Quite deadly in fact. Anyway, I highly doubt it would come to that.

We can make some conclusions, governments can't do nothing about bitcoins for now. They can just watch and do nothing. They can make using bitcoins illegal in some countries but that is all they can do.
We will find a way to skip some laws, we will use VPN or there will be invented some new way to hide your address and your actions on internet.
I hope we will not come to this, it's better everything to be normal and simple.

There are a lot of illegal things that can be harmful to others and people are still doing it.  I think bitcoin is for the good of people and making it illegal is taking it backwards.

Bitcoin won't be made illegal because it helps world economy, which is fallen.

If there were no more values to gain, the world would crumble down.

It's like a game when you have the last level to reach and then the game is over.

With Bitcoin, there have been added more new levels.

The legality of something does not depend on the amount you have. For exempla you still have the same felony commited whether you get caught with a pack or block of Cocaine. But you still have a point there as Businesses that only run with bitcoin won't be taxable as bitcoin is not the legal money that your country is currently circulating.

Another thing is public use, buying or selling something for BTC or trading on local bitcoins. If your government say that BTC is illegal, then there is no sense to do such things.Unless you prefer to pay fines or visit a local prison.

There are countries that has banned bitcoins but bitcoin is still being sold in their country (i.e. Taiwan) . I guess from that we can conclude that even if bitcoin gets banned in your country, you can still actually use it. Most countries just say that it's an unregulated money.

You cant really take it away from  the government to think of  bitcoin is  illegal hence   its being  used  by hidden transactions  that's why government  would see it as  a  threat  and that's why  they don't  like to legalize  bitcoin but still  it remains  strong as  long no once could able to manipulate it   or  being controlled by someone and  that's the beauty  of bitcoin and  also considered as  freedom from  government.

Don't get too excited already. Yes, it's true that you enjoy a certain amount of anonymity with Bitcoin, but if governments want, they can get to know much more about you than you are realizing right now. They can silently force the exchange you are signed up to with your personal information to release all trading logs, cashout logs, etc. This is the exact reason as to why I mix my coins that I have cashed out from the exchange I am working with. Better safe than sorry. But they of course can also force your ISP to closely monitor all your traffic. It may sound a bit extreme, but all realistic possibilities.

So gverment do not have reason to make bitcoin illegal.

The government does have plenty of reasons to put the label illegal on Bitcoin, but they will not directly ban it. At least well developed countries not. At worst, they will come up with certain policies in the hope that it will slow down Bitcoin's growth. As you also mentioned in your post, Bitcoin is freedom. That's exactly what they don't want you to have. With Bitcoin, you basically rule out banks and also governments. That feature is what they fear the most.

Or maybe everything is harder to monitor since it's digital. Yes the records are all there since it is digital, but do they know that it is you? There's a lot of ways to mask your existence in the Internet. You can literally jump from country to country by just using VPN. You can always deny that the account is yours when you're in the court unless they have a solid proof that it's yours. Just don't upload personal information online and you'll be safe.

Just because there won't be any legal exchanger in your country anymore doesn't mean that you cannot exchange your bitcoin into fiat. You can always trade person-to-person. Back then, there's no exchange websites. That is how they trade their bitcoins, by meeting up or by talking to each other online. You can also do escrow. Probably the transaction fee would be higher on this one but come on, you can't just shut down your bitcoin income just because of some hindrance.

If Bitcoin Really  Made Illegal By My Government Of India Then I Don't Use It Because I Dont Want to Get Punished For Using Bitcoin And Then I Start Using Other Altcoins If Possible to Use in My Country Because You Only Said About Bitcoin....

If my government made bitcoin illegal then there will be a punishment if keep using it. And I am sure there will be no more bitcoin exchanger in my country. So, it'll be worthless if I keep using it while I cant convert it to my local currency. The answer is no, I wont use it anymore if my government forbade it!

The  question is  on how  you  gonna  do  p2p  on your country  if  bitcoin was  banned?  FOr sure   those  people  on your country would surely find  another  person  to  exchange  bitcoin to fiat . Other way to encash   your bitcoin is    to transfer  bitcoin to  your friends   to those  who  live on  country  which  bitcoin its  not ban then  let them  exchange those bitcoins  then transfer  the fiat  into  you by common ways.

Me either I will become cautious and careful if the government will declare bitcoin as illegal in our society. But I will still keep on using it because there are a lot of ways that I can still consider to keep on using bitcoins with the help of mixers and as well as some exchange sites. But it looks like that I am already a criminal if I did that.

Yes I absolutely would continue to use bitcoin if my country banned it. I HODL, what would I be supposed to do, give up my coins?

Fuck the government.
Then it would be very fatal for you sir if ever that you if ever that you will be traced by the government using this technology. Now on that cased i would have no choice but to rather withdraw my amounts probably all to be safe than sorry later on.

Government doesnt care about bitcoin nowadays, their focus is to win the elections, if something like that happens well i dont care, the most choises that those people does makes results just into more taxes. Banning bitcoin for me would mean nothing, i will keep investing and earning bitcoin, buying and selling it, government must take care the country problems and not bitcoin.

Presently in America, we are seeing a sudden turn to basic common law. This common law is not the description that the courts have decided it means. This is the REAL common law, the common law of the people. It is expressed through the jury.

If Government ever comes after you for anything and takes you to court, if you demand it, they have to have an injured man or woman against you. The injury has to be for real. They have to prove it was you that did the injury. It is basic law.

If Ross Ulbricht had demanded this, there would be no way Government could have brought a person that Ross had harmed onto the stand and prove that Ross had done the harm.

In addition, an informed jury can overrule any law in America. It's called jury nullification, and it was recently used for the benefit of the people here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1664078.0 and here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1664275.0.

In fact, when you study jury nullification, if enough juries nullify a law, the law has to be repealed.

My government still doesn't have any regulations for bitcoin, I sell them and take money without any problem's. I don't see that they doing anything in that question, I'm not sure how much they are aware of bitcoin existence.
For now and for some next period I have nothing to be afraid of, but even in case they forbid me to use hitcoins, like others I would try to find a way to do it.

And also I can't leave bitcoin a at the middle I have to stop my faucets and other free bitcoin earning sources like in eobot because money would still come in my wallet and i could bit use it and it would be waste of money that I don't want.

Why would you stop using it? if you stop using it then you are falling for their fear and that is what the want, just put fear on people's mind to stop it. Because they can't do nothing else. What are they going to do? they can't stop a decentralized system unless they shut down the internet.

Yeah good option dude, it is your way to decide don't use bitcoin anymore after your government made illegal by using bitcoin.
But you forget something about one of bitcoin's features. Bitcoin is an anonymous coin that it is hard to identify the real one who using it .
But i don't know if there is the way to search trace who using it personally.

It's a payment system not an addictive drug or a sexual orientation.

If debit cards were illegal would you still use them?  No

If writing checks was illegal would you still write checks?  No

If credit cards were illegal would you still use them?  No

If PayPal was illegal would you still use PayPal?  No

Having your money tied up in an illegal payment system that's subject to government confiscation is beyond stupid. It would be more intelligent to wipe your ass with your money and flush it down the toilet. If you flush your money at least you avoid the prison sentence.

wow..I didn't even know that so many countries banned bitcoin...it's crazy

Did you even read? Just because there's a table doesn't mean that it is the list of countries banned bitcoin. If you actually read it, you'll notice that it just says that "status" of bitcoin in those countries. There are countries that has banned bitcoins but bitcoin is still being sold in their country (i.e. Taiwan) . I guess from that we can conclude that even if bitcoin gets banned in your country, you can still actually use it. Most countries just say that it's an unregulated money.
No country is really out to declare that bitcoin is illegal, because they know that would further give credence to it, take a look at what is now going on in China and Russia, instead of going under, bitcoin is now taking center stage in these two countries. The fact, is that the authorities are bothered about the decentralized nature of the cryptocurrencies, because it starves them of the power and control of people's finances, they have been used to and you don't have to be told why that is a source of worry for them.

Depending on how hard the government tracks down users I might switch to an altcoin.

NAV can synch and stake over tor so no obvious crypto coin traffic can be seen at ISP. Also has anon transfer so even if government searches blockchain they cannot find out address I sent or received NAV from.

If bitcoin is banned in many countries it will just make that altcoin or an even more secure and secretive one be used.

I too will use it. I would either hold and save it to profit out of exchanging into fiats. When the benefits of bitcoins are read, more and more would benefit from it. I am sure on it. Everyone is looking for earning a bit or more every day. So when it is promised to give profit, I am sure each would at least give a try to it. Hope this is accepted by the government soon.

I will do the same too because there are a lot of mixing coin services that we can just use to hide the anonymity of our bitcoin transactions.

And bitcoin is digital so if government will declare bitcoin as illegal, then they must have total control in the internet here in my country.

Because a lot of things can be just hide with the help of web.

But isn't that Bitcoin being banned by the majority of the countries affect the other altcoins' price in a bad way? Because Bitcoin was the highest and most valuable cryptocurrency out there. Just by being bitcoin banned don't you think other altcoins will be chase by the government next?  It is a high possibility as it would appear the virtual currency is not in favor with the government.

If my government will ban the Bitcoin and make it illegal I think I will simply try to convert it in fiat currency from my country. For the moment in my Country the Bitcoin will not be banned :)

This technology is so amazing and the government should invest time to learn it and adopt policies instead to fight against it.

Until now, I never find Government passed a law to made bitcoin illegal in their country. There are some regulations about using and tax for bitcoin user but in several country and bitcoin consider as legal thing. In my country states that bitcoin and other virtual currency are not currency or legal payment instrument but we can convert it into fiat money, right? I will still use bitcoin even if it made illegal by gov, but the main problem how to convert it if local exchanger had closed, maybe using another currency to convert my bitcoin.

Many ways to convert it and you can receive it via western union into usd.. and after that you will exchange it again into local currency..
But i think bitcoin should not consider as illegal since we are just use it as alternative currency online..

I don't think the law about bitcoin will be that strong because in the first place, there's no reason for them to ban bitcoins. If getting caught selling bitcoins would put you in jail, I'm pretty sure exchangers are already gone and people would start doing P2P trading instead. I think it will never become illegal but in that case i would immediately stop using it. Bitcoins are not a big part of my life and the risk of fines or even jail would be too big compared to the gins. However I would keep my private key in some safe place in case of expatriation or changes in the laws.

At one point it was a big deal that China had banned bitcoin BUT it is obvious that btc businesses were operating (and thriving) during that time.
I suppose I was always under the impression (as an American) that if you were a Chinese citizen you wouldn't risk going against your government.

You will do well to remember that bitcoin was from the word go, designed for peer 2 peer transactions and that is what gives sleepless nights to the authorities. Nonetheless, one can actually remain anonymous all they like, issues on identity only shows up at the point when one becomes fascinated with moving from bitcoin to the fiats. Good news remains that technology is on the side of anyone looking to take financial chains off their neck, That of course, is a choice, though it is unfortunate, some people are so sold to slavery.

I will keep on using and storing my money in bitcoin like normal even if our government banned exchange of bitcoin or use of it. With bitcoin we can always remain anonymous while doing bitcoin transactions so why to worry about getting catched using bitcoin, no government can't just banned or shut down whole bitcoin network like other payment gateways.

yes i am agree with you that for every country they have their own laws and regulation, and still most of the countries has not yet given any statement about bitcoin that either bitcoin is legal currency or illegal currency, and same is the case in my country. but i am hopeful that very soon my country will accept bitcoin as legal currency

It is sad that people choose 'yes' mostly. For me it is very important to follow the rules government sets, I'm Kantian in this way. Kant said that we mustn't lie or violate the rules even if it seems to be not a big deal, because thus we ruin the basement of all the law system. I know it's already too ruined but I prefer to stick to this rule.

gov. is corrupt.
bitcoins are legit.

my official bank "too big to fail/jail" close automaticly account when you transfer more than 1/3 of your salary to an identified SEPA linked to an Bitcoin Exchange.

The banks still do not realize the paradigm shift taking place. This anonymous stuff is also headed for a showdown.

At this moment, I really don't know why should I do if that happens. I can't decide if I will still continue involve in bitcoin or stop it for the sake to be an abiding citizen. But if the law and penalty is hard like imprisonment I will be forced to stop.

It is not very easy to implement the Bitcoin ban. If you are using an IP hiding service such as TOR browser or a VPN, then it will be very hard to trace you. It is not 100% risk-free, but the government will have to spend millions of USD worth of resources to arrest a single person. It is near impossible to eradicate the BTC usage.

I've voted "not sure", because it would depend on the situation if something like that happens in my country, i will see if people around me who have been using bitcoin before are still using it in any way or not, and i will see if government is really taking serious actions if someone is caught using it or not, and then i will decide if what i need to do.

Yes I will still use it cause it will be unfair on my side that why would the government banned bitcoin. The goodness of it is determined by its user.

If that happens, I will just use a vpn or a tor network that is more anonymous than vpn, though I will not use bitcoin often than before cause I need to be extra careful. I don't wanna go to jail.

60.5% of the respondents here in this thread answer yes. :) Ready to defy the government and its happening in other countries that bitcoin are banned and illegal. Since bitcoin is decentralized and you can transact bitcoin from anywhere in the world,it became borderless already.

I think I would stop using bitcoin.  It is the call of the government to stop using bitcoin.  They have their reason, and that reason I believe is very important in establishing the country.  The problem with people is that, they want a peaceful and prosperous country but they failed to abide their government law and start complaining about injustices when they were caught doing bad stuff or forbidden stuff that is labeled bad by the government.  If I don't want to follow my government rule maybe I need to fly out of the country and search for the government that will allow the things I like.

But I just hope it won't happen, never!

If a government would declare posession of btc to be illegal, that would mean that I had to face some consequences if the authorities knew about my coins.
But it would not mean I would give my crypto stuff away. I don't do everything othere people want me to do, but of course I have to live with the consequences that produces.

Just the idea that someone would risk jail time for a payment system is kind of looney. If the government said you would get five years in a federal prison (no parole) would you risk using PayPal? ApplePay? M-Pesa? Google Wallet? WePay? Braintree? Skrill? I understand they are different from Bitcoin but they are still just value transfer systems.

You're all making Bitcoin sound more like a sinister cult than a Peer-To-Peer Electronic Cash System.

Let me rephrase it a bit. If you are holding Bitcoins worth some $25 million, will you continue to use them if there is a 0.001% chance of imprisonment? Or are you going to dump them and forget about what happened?

People does risks to go jail with dark marketplaces transactions, drugs and guns, but they take the risks doing those with fiat, and now with crypto coins as well. Im father and i need to give example for the kids, and go jail isnt part of those for sure, soo i would hide my ip under some service and continue using bitcoin.

What kind of a question is this? Bitcoin will flourish even if more and more regulations were set up to attempt to stop or limit its use. Who cares if you cannot use it "legally", the technology is very good for circumventing laws. A good example of this is the darknet market places. Bitcoin's growth depends on the darknet's growth.

How could bitcoin make your daily processes easy if it is going to be banned by the government? I think that's not the OP means... If government would ban bitcoin, I think we will have difficulty in transaction, most of our moves should be carefully planned so I think that would just slow down the way we earn and risky too, so by that, I think it's time to quit bitcoin if it is going to be banned by the government...  :)

it work before so for sure even its been banned it will still exist and more value will it takes like drugs when supply has been decrease the value rises up for sure if bitcoin got banned in most country we can still find ways like direct wallet to wallet transaction and there still someone will take chance to exchange it in our own currency.

But I would secure my connection with Tor, so that I'm safe from government tracking.

Also i would file a petition to remove such law. All users of Bitcoin will be encouraged to support it.
And it would be called the Bitcoin Movement. ;D

However, I'm sure such law cannot be introduced in my country. A senior official in our country said that they have no plans to regulate Bitcoin.

Why do people not understand that they are the ones with the power. The masses cannot be contained if they all for one and one for all.
The government does not control you, we control them! If the government was to pull a dirty move like that the only thing left to do is protest 24/7 until they change it.

It reminds me of the occupy wall street protests, the crowd was protesting the wrong thing. Instead of protesting against the 1%, they should protest the government who passes dirty bills to increase tax and create inflation.

Well in my opinion, if the government gives restrictions about bitcoin, I won't easily accept that because to me, bitcoin has become an important part in my live. I won't give up on it that simple and I've been thinking of two ways to turn this law down. I maybe run a protest to against this or maybe I just keep using it because it's not an easy task for the government to track down who uses bitcoin.

It will be the final test to see if people still use it once the governments make it illegal all over the world. If people get scared and stop using it then ti will mean bitcoin failed, because bitcoin is supposed to resist all government attacks and keep working no matter what happens. It would suck if it gets reduced to a tiny amount of people using it. Sure you can claim bitcoin still wins because the technology works, but what's the point if only a few people use it? the idea is to take over the world.

I am not entirely sure if my government even gives much of a damn about bitcoin, but if ever the day comes that they ban bitcoin for some reasons, I would continue holding it and just do my purchases online. It was meant to be a global currency so I am making use of it no matter what. But banning bitcoin altogether would just be stupid because it halts our progression towards a world where digital currency could become king.

Apparently no matter how dumb your government is, anyone can still sue you if they find you doing something illegal. You will still be in jail when someone reports you. Your president isn't the one judging in the court room, it would be a different set of people. Nevertheless, it's quite easy to hide your identity anyway so no worries as long as no one catches you in the act and takes a photo of you.

I dont agree with several measures the government does take and make, soo going against bitcoin is something i wont agree, and i will still use, since im not doing nothing to damage the current fiat system.

That argument won't wash in court. People may disagree with paying taxes, but they pay taxes all the same. This is to avoid getting punished for breaking the law. The same logic holds good if Bitcoin is made illegal too.

Bitcoin doesn't care about any government! Ban it as much as they want, they can't touch bitcoin! We will find a way to use it and we will not be stopped by just a simple ban from the government. It is our right to use it and they can't stop people from using it. Bitcoin is just like any other fiat money, why should they ban it?

Even if the government of your country does not seems to care that much they could always agree to follow some kind international agreement to ban bitcoin and make no mistake they don't want a future where a crypto currency  is king.

as now we have become addicted to bitcoin and there it has become too much difficult to us to stop using bitcoin, as in our country there are so many other things that are illegal but still people are practicing them so i will try my best to practice using bitcoin even though it is consider as illegal i our county.

I would definetly use it. Chances are small that the goverment would check my phone or anyones phone/computer to see if I Bitcoin is used. And the goverment is pretty lazy and wouldn't really care to check if I am using it. I wouldn't really openly support it, but I would still support it by using it and sharing it on the internet.

Of course I will since it is the exit wsy to government control. They cannot stop you even with ISP control. That"s the most genuine use of Bitcoin and people should be proud of this feature that Bitcoin has. The web cannot be controlled and less the physical ways. I think it will be much more cool to use if it was illegal, like anything else that's setted as illegal, much more tasty  ;D

Here is another proof that even if the Government says Bitcoin is illegal in their country it won't stop their citizens for using it. Because even the Government would have a hard time tracking all the transactions, even finding any users of Bitcoin wallet is hard as it is online, if the government does not enforce their laws it is no use to be banning Bitcoin in their country.

As of now, if some country is banning bitcoin, they are not pressing it hard, and it means you could still talk about it, make transactions. But when the government that bans bitcoin pushes it and impose laws against bitcoin, for sure, they are going to ban the entry of source, It's not hard to do, even vpn won't work if they ask the ISP's to produce routers/modems that disallow installation of vpn, I saw in one Dlink router that it is an option, what if they make it permanent?

If it comes to that then those that can probably should leave a country pressing so strongly against bitcoin because at that point you can be sure bitcoin is not going to be the only thing they are going to be pursuing.

I would definitely still use it because the bitcoin's idea is to get around the government anyways. There is little doubt on the reason why bitcoin could potentially be outlawed in countries simply because it disrupts the government's monopoly on the money supply, and they don't want people to shift away from their legal tender currency and go to something better.

The question is does bitcoin was made to use for illegal issue only, though we knew that bitcoin is decentralized. I think that things will be happen only if bitcoin will no longer be decentralize.

i don't think so , even there is ban regulated by government ,
it will not provide a big effect to bitcoin price in long term ,
also people will remain use bitcoin no matter what ,
so do i , but i doubt there will be a lot of government can do recognize bitcoin as illegal thing.

The fact that the government is banning bitcoin, it means that country people are forbidden to use or transact with bitcoin.  This will have a great effect in the bitcoin economy since this country's merchant is automatically not accepting bitcoin as one of the payment in their store.  So for example, China bans bitcoin and strictly implemented the law.  Automatically all the hashes from china will stop, people from China that once supporting and participating in bitcoin economy will need to look for another alternative.  Now figure out how much of the base user of bitcoin will stop using it when bitcoin is banned in countries like China, US etc.

I went for I am not sure because I wont want to find myself on the other side of law and be used as scape goat and also will not want to lose the opportunity embedded in the use of Bitcoin so what I will do is to study the implementation because there are several laws that have been made by Government of this country but only exist in papers so if this new law go in that direction, then Im back in the world of Bitcoin but if not, ( which I doubt, I want to be more careful).

China has a major impact on Bitcoin for sure, but that doesn't mean Bitcoin has no future when China puts a total ban on Bitcoin. If they had such an intention, they would have done it already. Also, don't forget that the mining farms there for a major part are in the hands of outside-China investors. Everything will be moved to a different country with equal terms and electricity rates. But yes, at the time it happens, the price will lose a huge percentage of its value in a matter of 24 hours as result of a massive wave of panic blood flowing in the markets. I can't even imagine what will happen when the USA is going to do that as well. But then again, this is nothing more than a science fiction scene in a movie.

There's a little chance that bitcoin will be made illegal here in our country since there's many users here but if it will happen I will still use it. I will just need to find a way to convert it conveniently to fiat and of course If ever I can't convert it into fiat, ill just use it to buy items or use services that gives virtual credit card to bitcoin users. That way I can still use it.

We all have the same feelings, but when it comes on crime, none of us would like to go to prison for just using a digital currency which was providing a financial freedom for us.
If the government announces that anyone using bitcoin would be taken to prison then i'm sure you will think twice before doing that then.

Bitcoin has a lot of benefits we can enjoy but we should choose those kind of benefits that will not compromise our future, we know that illegal activities has bigger risk and if we decide to do that we have to expect anytime we will be caught. Bitcoin is freedom but the moment you use it for illegal activities you will not enjoy freedom because you are afraid of being caught.

Executive Order 6102
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_6102

If I were a citizen at that time I may have blindly obeyed.
But as time has gone on, we have learned that: all laws that are passed may not be in line with our personal freedoms. And I live in a "free country".
I don't think I'd easily give up my metals or bitcoin or internet or the freedom to challenge my government.
The thought of handing over years of my life to defend my ideal of freedom is not appealing but not entirely out of the question.

One of the reason why they make bitcoin anonymous because of illegal activities like purchasing drugs and weapons in black market, it has advantages and disadvantages. It is up to the users where and how he will use it, for what purpose. So I hope it will not be banned here in our country because I am taking advantage using this, very helpful and useful especially in terms of transaction.

There are two scenarios that I am thinking on how government will act to this, 1. They would ban bitcoin, all its sources from entering such country and have no problem to answer... 2. Won't ban it but if they caught you using bitcoin, imprisoned you long and your bitcoin will belong to the lost bitcoin...  In the two option, if I am from the government, I would choose the first one, lesser burden and its like cutting the source of the problem...  :)

Nobody can ever ban bitcoin successfully. They can put restrictions around the trading of bitcoin, sure, but they can never ever successfully ban the bitcoin network because of its P2P network. You have to shut down all the users to shut down the network. It's not like Facebook.

And the governments are already tightening their grips on bitcoin in areas of the world. And it's clearly not deterring people.

Bitcoin will still be used whether governments ban it or not. For instance, as we speak, my government has not allowed bitcoin to be used and even placed a public disclaimer to those using bitcoin. Notwithstanding, bitcoin is used here on a large scale. Therefore I don't think the government can put a stop to bitcoin use.

I would use it, cause I see nothing wrong in using Bitcoin. They are not effecting my country growth or I am not hiding money of my local currency. The government should have no problem with Bitcoin, until people are hiding their money then yes they should fear it. But so far no country has done it so I don't think it will happen. As and when it will, people will figure a way out, they always do. So we will get help here 😂

This reminds me the question of legaliza drugs, sometime ago people asked to that be allowed, atleast some drugs, but looks like they forgot those and didnt touch it anymore. If the government does ban and make heavy restrictions into bitcoin, this will result into a huge interest over bitcoin, the same way that happens with drugs, being harder to trace who is using or buying or selling bitcoin.

i don't think so , even there is ban regulated by government ,
it will not provide a big effect to bitcoin price in long term ,

The fact that the government is banning bitcoin, it means that country people are forbidden to use or transact with bitcoin.  This will have a great effect in the bitcoin economy since this country's merchant is automatically not accepting bitcoin as one of the payment in their store.  So for example, China bans bitcoin and strictly implemented the law.  Automatically all the hashes from china will stop, people from China that once supporting and participating in bitcoin economy will need to look for another alternative.  Now figure out how much of the base user of bitcoin will stop using it when bitcoin is banned in countries like China, US etc.

While it has not happened and maybe never will it is still useful to discuss this since in ht event something like that happened we will have  a lot more knowledge about what we may try to do in that particular scenario.

In what country do you live? I think your government doesn't even know that you are in bitcoins. So you can just simply earn bitcoins while the government is not going to know it. Because Russia way back few months ago, they banned bitcoin after months again they removed the ban for the usage of bitcoin and now people who are using bitcoins there are now happily using bitcoin.

If the government ban something, there are two reasons, first, they know that the thing is illegal, second, they have no knowledge about it and thinks that it is also illegal. With regards to banning, I think I won't use anything that the government is going to prohibit as long as there is a good explanation to it. So if they are going to ban bitcoin, they better have a good explanation and I will lawfully obey.

Bitcoin is freedom is they are violating the freedom of the people if they will ban bitcoins. Some countries support bitcoin but some does not, so we are just lucky if we belong to a country that supports bitcoin. Lawmakers are doing their job so we have no choice if within our country it will be ban.

I live in a democratic country and it is difficult to imagine that my government would follow a particularly tough policy toward bitcoins. On the other hand if she had serious proofs, is that possible any?  that bitcoins use is harmful for the country and its people then I would think it again but it's my decision. So, because I believe that crypto-currencies change the world I would continue to support the development and existence of it.

Here's what a "democratic" country can do. This is happening right now, as we speak.

Dakota Pipeline: Protesters Soaked With Water in Freezing Temperatures

Tear gas, freezing cold water and rubber bullets were used to disperse a crowd of 400 protesters at the Dakota Access Pipeline in clashes late Sunday and early Monday that left more than 150 activists and one law enforcement officer injured.

Linda Black Elk, a member of the Standing Rock Medic and Healer Council of the Catawba tribe, said she treated protesters for injuries and hypothermia and they were soaked by water in temperatures as low as 23 degrees. Standing Rock Sioux Chairman Dave Archambault II told NBC News that between 200-300 people were transported late Sunday night to a gymnasium on the Standing Rock Sioux reservation for treatment for hypothermia, facial and hand wounds, and other minor injuries. Approximately seven people with more serious injuries — including two elders who were tear gassed and who suffered near cardiac arrest — were sent to a hospital in Bismarck for emergency treatment, said Archambault.

He said the tribe was reaching out to the White House Monday with a request that the Obama administration intervene "due to the threat to public safety at Standing Rock."

"From the beginning, we've had water protectors attacked by guard dogs, rubber bullets and mace. Last night, law enforcement upped the ante by using exploding tear gas canisters and water cannons in sub-freezing temperatures," said Archambault. "There's no telling what law enforcement will do next."

Government will ban bitcoin because they saw its a threat to the economy to a certain country and they saw that it will surely increase the  hidden transactions on their place and might really affect the crime rate on their place.I dont know whats the reason of government but its just my own view regarding to this matter.

Yes I also hope so that bitcoin will continue its free status as it is in present time. As still our government has not yet given any statement about bitcoin therefore it is not banned and people are using it as legal currency. But if anything bad happens, this community will find a right solution and that may convince government too.

I chose yes not because of the fact that I dont want to obey the law or I like to go to jail, nope but because I am not living in the United States and any other advanced country that can make good of the threat. We have had several laws that ended up on the shelf and moreover which machineries do we have to really enforce the law so I would gladly continue to use my Bitcoin. It would even made it more scarce thereby increasing its value.

Problem is Bitcoin needs good publicity because it wants to get socially accepted, sure it can't be stopped, but government and mass media can make it scary enough so that people won't use it.

Bit Torrent either can't be stopped, but it never had the will to get socially accepted.

Obviously we will need a new financial crisis for people to actually need Bitcoin regardless of what their governments says...

How do we have that publicity you are talking, we can always support bitcoin thru online and I am pretty sure those who use online transaction are mostly illegible to use bitcoin, we cannot force other people who does not even have the idea on how to use computer. We have to admit that we cannot get the majority of population to adopt.

Well, that's a good news but that decision is not permanent, if they see that there's a rampant illegal transaction involving the use of bitcoin, they might make necessary measures to strengthen the law or possibly ban bitcoin. I don't know, I am just saying all the possibilities.

If government will see such situations they will surely ban bitcoin and impose restrictions regarding on using it but well as we all know even bitcoin is banned on a particular country the possibilities on accesing it is still available and we could really use it without the notice of the government thats why its somehow useless if they implement this kind of law on banning bitcoin.People will surely use it no matter what, they can always use tor and VPN services.

Laws and public policy can change very rapidly specially when there is economic and political turmoil as is the current situation in the world, so if you can take those measures right now that way if in your country bitcoin gets banned you will not be identified as a bitcoin user.

funny how they use ponzi scheme on the things they disagree with.  If you look at the trading industry, it is one big ponzi scheme.  People buy the stock, then sell it to another people in a higher price.  The first person will get his profit from the second person and so on. That is trading with profit.  Isn't it a big ponzi scheme itself?  Why not address the trading as a whole and not point in Bitcoin only.

Code:
Pon·zi scheme
ˈpänzē ˌskēm/
noun
a form of fraud in which belief in the success of a nonexistent enterprise is fostered by the payment of quick returns to the first
investors from money invested by later investors.

To me the most important is that the number of bitcoin users should be increased, as the price of bitcoin is struggling to go up so we need to spread up awareness of bitcoin. Also, if we want to make bitcoin more reliable and trusted, the number of bitcoin users must be increased. And it can only be done if we introduce bitcoin to more number of the new people.

If more number of people will be using bitcoins, any government will afraid to declare bitcoin as illegal.

At a blockchain conference last week in London, Patrick Armstrong, Senior Risk Analysis Officer, detailed ESMA’s approach to blockchain technology. One strategy he noted was to ban blockchain products or processes altogether.

I wouldn't because I don't want to be involved in such things that can affect me in some way, so I prefer not doing that but a lot of people would. Why? Because they simply do not want to have their rights taken away or they are criminals or something. Bitcoin doesn't affect the economy of our countries in any way for now, it can be easily implemented in lur system (but that would make everything way less anonymous).

I will use it because i don't use bitcoins for illegal activity, but i don't know what for people come from Europe, because Europe Will Have Power to Ban Blockchain Tech in January 2018.
At a blockchain conference last week in London, Patrick Armstrong, Senior Risk Analysis Officer, detailed ESMA’s approach to blockchain technology. One strategy he noted was to ban blockchain products or processes altogether.

It is bad for Europeans

Its really a bad news for Europeans since they are serious of banning blockchain products and processes. It may be implemented on 2018 but still a year to go left for those bitcoin users on Europe. Its quiet a big news for me that the government could possibly ban bitcoin on a particular place but i wont still totally believe until that time arrives i would like to see on how they gonna do it.

Well then I guess I'm opposite to you, if the government ever banned bitcoin, I would keep using it and fight for its right. I think it's because I'm not the kind of people that easily accept the rules without any explanations and aren't consistent in thoughts. And bitcoin has somehow become a major part in my life so I wouldn't give up on bitcoin that fast  ;D

Or if other country get an idea too to ban bitcoin on their country and spread the ban to the whole world

You are judging it completely wrong. No one is saying that they will ban it but that they will have the power to do so . They are also mentioning the warning system. Do, this banning option would probably be considered in the cases of abuse and illegal use. Europe will not bann blockchain or bitcoin.

obviously, I will use it with VPN.infact, recently  my country banned bitcoin for some reason. But I am using bitcoin with VPN.Because bitcoin is giving me easy way to earn money.I can easily transfer my money at home. So,why should I stop using bitcoin? I won't stop using bitcoin, no matter what is the punishment.

People going to jail for mining BTC
https://reason.com/archives/2016/11/28/the-secret-dangerous-world-of

this is what government crackdown on bitcoin can look like. It's not illegal but you can be jailed for mining it.

No, I wouldn't. At least not openly or not as I frequent as I use it now.
I'm not gonna risk being jailed just so I could use Bitcoin. Maybe occasional checks on investments.

If however, I was able to make a LOT of money with bitcoin, then I'd use that and certainly move overseas where my bitcoins would be welcome.  ;D ;D

If it will be banned by the government, then we have no other choice but to keep it a secret or if we can't keep it as secret, then time to move to other place where it is openly used. If it is being banned by majority of the country, the price would slowly decrease, not everyone is ready to get jailed because of bitcoin. Everyone I think is just being practical.

That's a good idea that you will move to other place where bitcoin is legal. But I guess you can just use bitcoin whenever you want even the government prohibits it. Because there are some other ways when you can keep it confidential and just don't let others know that you are in bitcoin or else you will hold the bars of the jail.
If you really devote your life with bitcoin you will have to make that decision to continue your journey in the bitcoin world. Some countries currently are making bitcoin illegal but I believe it will not last the moment they realize that there more benefits of suing bitcoin that it's weaknesses.

I too will try at my level best to continue but this matter most probably will target imposing taxes. I am always glad to pay taxes to my country because government need some income so they are getting that in the form of taxes.

If they declare as illegal and not just taxes means, I will keep saving bitcoins and I may migrate to bitcoin friendly country.

That is a good point too, if someone really knows he is doing a work which can be continued and guaranteed and he is earning good enough bitcoins with that then he could move to somewhere else where bitcoin is not illegal and he could keep using it there.

For example if i would buy a PC with btc ( through blockchain payment ) and i would get 2 years for it then welll... obviously...

I thought about it for some time. It is a very tough question, isn't it? If 90% of your life savings are in Bitcoin, will you be willing to give them up? I don't know the answer.... It will depend upon the probability of getting caught...

Hm, that would depend on what would the consecuences be, but I don't think I'd be risking a fine or some jail time over a bitcoin. I mean, I'd probably try to earn it in some way, staying low, but I don't think I'd be exchanging it or buying anything online with it.

I think I'd give up on bitcoin if it was made illegal in my country, unleast untill the ban is lifted or I move to the country where the bitcoin is legal.

Bitcoin does represent people, and we are free to choose what we wanna, and speak as long it doesnt offends the other person. I dont like some rules and restriction about what you can do with fiat, that makes bitcoin more and more atractive, i wont stop using bitcoin because the politicians say its a problematic currencie or ponzi.

funny how they use ponzi scheme on the things they disagree with.

Not really if you buy stock for X price and then that business grows and you sell for 2 times what you paid then you are obtaining profit because the business grew and became more valuable, even though the one buying your stock is the one handing the money to you your profits came form the growing of the business.

No, more of a Prohibition just moves it underground and doesn't stop it. Also gives the state a pretext to control your wealth. Just posting here may in the future give the Gov cause to search your home and computers.

Everything will be very difficult for the Government, because it was decided in the Government have some things that are definitely there in the bitcoin. But the Government also won't benefit greatly if using bitcoin, because they certainly wouldn't be able to attract a fee or tax in the bitcoin by automated means. But it all depends on the creators of the bitcoin, if the creators of the bitcoin appeared and took over may be different

Although governnent not allowed us to own bitcoin, they can not do anything to prohibit us to own bitcoin, becouse bitcoin have anonimity that protect the users. I read in some articles that even us is starting to regulated bitcoin.

But now we are hearing complete new things. I believe this will not get implemented when more number of people finds the advantages and potential of bitcoins.

Yes, governments will be forced to listen people's choice, that is the reality as per history. So no need to worry, I believe.

not so sure but maybe yes i will still use and support bitcoin secretly, if ever it is already prohibited in my country I will find a way to keep in touch with my coin and will keep it on a desktop wallet despite that I will be punished badly if they caught and traced me using this bitcoin ;D but i don't think they will implement a strict law on bitcoin that they will punish you like hell.
