Probaby best to check a mining calculator. These devices mine a few different coins so it is best to check what each can make profitwise. Also you haveto consider your power cost and cost of anything else required (such as the psu not being included).

The giant is very easy to run.  I have one running on a small 550w PSU and it hardly ever kicks on the fan so these things are very easy to power.

after you connect it with the 8 pin you just need to power up the psu right? can be connected to a whole gpu rig?

There are 2 8 pin connectors per board(only one needs to be connected), and there are 2 boards per Giant.  They show that you can use a 6 pin connector in the videos online instead of a 8 pin. 

So you will need 2 free pcie connectors from your PSU.  So in theory you could connect one of these up to a PSU in a GPU rig if you have the spare capacity.  I haven't tried it in that configuration.

Judging by the images I have seen there isn't a switch, but someone who already owns one will have to verify this.

What probably should happen is that bittawm pm's each of us with some unique code with we can use with the order so Baikal knows that there aren't any imposters...

yes but if you wait 3 months for btc to hit $2k and pay only 1 btc for a giant you are still losing 3 months of mining that would net you $1000

in the end it's the same, unless btc skyrocket in 1 week to 2k or more then you may have a point, but it's a gamble...

I am still trying to get a confirmation that I am on the list so that I can buy one.  I received an email stating that Baikal needed to confirm with Bittawm, but I have heard nothing back that I am confirmed so that I can send payment.  Looks like I will need some help with the confirmation.

They replied to my email group buy is now invalid.  Probably from the BTC price action.

I concur this is the correct address that I also was sent.  So I think we just need to be patient as they sort through payments and order info. 

I am only getting funds on Friday so can only trade it on Monday. Baikal said they would try to keep my one. Here's hoping!

This company is based in China. Be aware of that when waiting for responses. I've gotten emails from them around 3:00am my local time.

They responded to me saying that they would send a tracking number ~2 days after confirmed payment.

Waiting on tracking number as well.  Within 2 days of payment they will arrange shiment and provide tracking number according to their email. This evening will technically be day 2 from when they confirmed my payment because of different time zones.

I just received my tracking number from Baikal.  So you just have to be patient.  Baikal is working through the orders and will get them out to us.  If this is your first Giant I think you are going to like it.  It is a pretty nice miner.

Whats the noise level of a miner?  I imagine it can't be very loud since it only used roughly 250 watts, but am curious.  Also, does each one take 2 8 pin connectors?  I will need to look for a PSU that has 6 8 pin connectors to power my 3 in that case.

According to the sound meter on my phone it shows 64db at 3" from the fan, and about 44db at about 3 feet away from the miner.  It is not an annoying sound, it is a very nice home miner.  So far my favorite of the ASIC rigs I have played with or used.

only pcie power plugs, no switch

Felixbrucker is correct, there are no switches on the miner.  You can turn it on and off by the PSU power switch.  Not idea if you are trying to share the PSU with a GPU rig. 

yes this is the issue, if i turn the psu on the miner turn on but then i need to press the switch of the motherboard to turn that on also, which usually will turn on the psu...

normally the psu isn't working if you just turn on its switch but if the asic require the electricity it will switch it on like when you turn on the MB right?

i have had connected it like that, it wont work, your mb will have to connect the two pins form the 24 pin connector internally

what do you mean? can i just switch on the motherboard first and plug the asic later into the psu?

what i mean:
psu connected to mb and miner -> switch on the mb and the miner will turn on as well
psu connected to mb and miner -> switch on the psu and nothing will power on (besides when the mb auto powers on after it lost power)

ah, then it work normally, i just plug in the psu and then turn on the MB, the psu is always on, i never shut down it completely

I would like to setup, configure and manage them at once not separately. Also do not want to use 7 LAN cables and 1 extra switch.

The Baikal miners can be connected in series and ran from one controller and one network connection.  However I don't know what the limit is on the number you can connect.  We know the minis can connect as a quad, so I would assume you can connect at least 4 of them together.

What is everyones shipping time showing?  Over 2 weeks from China to Canada?

My 7 giants has just arrived. But only with 6 sets of cable.
Wrrrrrrrrrr!!!!

Each miner should come with a pair of the cables.  One cable to connect one board to another in the same miner. The second cable is for the interconnect to a second or subsequent miners. So you should have excess cables to make all your connections.  Of course reach out to Baikal about the missing cables, but you should be able to get everything going.  

  

The new Giant showed up this evening.  Pulled it out of the box and attempted to connect 2 Giant's together.  For some reason the second miner would not sync up.  So I tried a couple of different things and still no luck getting them to sync.  So I disconnected the interlink between the 2 and connected a network cable and it was off and running without any issues. 

The software for this miner is just a cut above what you might have come to expect after working with Bitmain, Innosilicon, KNC.   The software has a very polished feel, it refreshes, it is interactive, it has a built in profit switching ability.  Just really nice stuff. 

I don't know why it didn't want to sync when interconnected between the two miners.  I might try again later to see if I can get that to work, but for now it is humming along.

One other observation about the Giant.  The chips just don't get hot.  My temps on these things running in my office are 34-35c right now.   I really don't expect any issues at all going into the summer with the Baikal miners. 

Also for those wanting to split the load on PSU's.  The miner comes with a PCIE Y cable so you can run the entire miner off of one PCIE drop on a PSU with the included splitter.  I currently have 2 Giant's mining X11 running off of a 550w PSU I had sitting around in a box and it is working fine.  You can't get much more efficient and cost effective than that.

Yes, I would like to know more about what you mean by this.  If mining on nicehash can it switch between algorithms  X11 / X13 / X14 / X15 / Quark / Qubit automatically based on profitability?

That is my understanding that it works that way.  I could be wrong, but I thought I also read someplace here and on a Nicehash post online about this feature. 

I have had mine briefly switch between the algo's on Nicehash once or twice now since I have had it.  I don't know if it was due to Nicehash X11 briefly interrupted or if it was profit switching.  But hopefully more experienced people can chime in on this feature.  It could be I am misunderstanding what I read. Wouldn't be the first time.   ;D

I've had no problems with miningpoolhub, but when it auto switching on NiceHash, i ended up with extremely high reject percentages when it switched from x11 to qubit or quark.

Yes, that is how I had mine setup until I started using the splitters last night to run two miners from one PSU.  You can connect the 8 pin connectors to the miner directly.

i connected it but the light went out...i hope it's not faulty i connected directly the 2 8 pin to the above 8 pin slot

well it doesn't work anymore wasted money...it was indeed faulty, i connected everything correctly, but when i switched off the psu it cut off the power

I just baught 10 Giants from Baikal and i must say their customer service is really nice. You feel taken care off and everything went smooth from start to finish. I asked alot of question and they replied really fast in an orderly fashion. Now im just waiting for shipping parcel information.

Are you using a stand alone PSU or one that is in another rig?  If you are using a stand alone PSU did you remember to jumper the mobo connector pins so that the PSU will run stand alone?  Other than that all I can recommend is to double check all your connectors. 

1. The USB from the controller to the first board. 
2. The Serial cable from one board to the other. 
3. 1 PCIE power connection to each board. 
4. Make sure to plug in the power cord into the orange pi. 

When you first power it on you should see flashing lights on both of the boards while everything passes the POST checks and then start to bring the boards online.  This takes a couple of minutes to complete.  Once they are sync'd and hashing the lights on both boards with stay turned on solid.  You should also see a red light on the orange pi controller, and of course link and data lights on your network interface. 

Those are my checklist items I can offer.  If those don't work then reach out to Baikal and I am sure they will get you fixed up.

because they send you the yellow splitter which has only one 6 x pin female and two per 6 pin to connect to the miner

I receved my miner this morning and directly mine Dash after check what to mine.
But what is the best dash pool that you recommend ? I start with super nova.
The giant look good easy to plug after watching the video. I was surprised that the noise is not so loud.

Unless you have a PSU that can run without the motherboard connected you need to plug in the mobo cable and jumper 2 of the pins to fool the PSU into thinking it is connected to a mobo. Otherwise it will not power up.

That I don't know.  I have seen references to including "diagnostic" plugs to jumper the PSU at the plug instead of connecting the mobo cable.  I have seen some references to a swtich on some PSU's.  However all of my PSU's all require me to jumper the mobo cable to trick the PSU.  Once you do that it will then allow you to power it up. 

Here is the paperclip trick.  It is pretty simple, and you don't need to go crazy taping it up like this guy did.  Your simply closing the circuit so that the PSU thinks the mobo is connected.

That is great news!  Glad you were able to get it working. 

The pool configuration screen is a little confusing at first.  They have a BUNCH of pre-made pools in there so you can switch them rapidly and can save the config as a backup.  But once you play around in there you will get the hang of it pretty quick.

Remove the ones you don't want, and to add the ones you do want.  With the preconfigured pools you click on the section on the left for the groups of preconfigured pools and they will show up in the list on the right.  You just plug in your own id/pass combo which makes it very fast and easy to do.  And you set the priority in which you want to use them.

too bad there is no solo mining with this, can come in handy with new coin, i'm talking with baikal for this, they said that perhaps there is a way

@Amph  I am glad you got it all sorted out.  I think you will like this miner.  So far it works pretty well.  A solo option would be nice for ICO's etc. Keep us posted on what comes from that conversation with Baikal.

The management software is pretty good for an ASIC miner.  If you ever get a chance to look at some of the other ASIC's out there you might be shocked at how bad they are.  There are only a few things that come to mind that I would like to see added or changed in the Baikal interface so far.

Mostly just set mine to Nicehash lately.  If not there, mining ADZ usually on Mining Pool Hub.

So delivery was fast, but one miner was dirty (it seems as aprox. 1 month used).
And after one day I had to reset it, because one hashboard was dead (after reset ok, but it is strange)

Quick question though.  I have it running to Nicehash and want to it auto switch to the most profitable coin, do I need to do anything besides load the 5 different URL's, one for each algorithm, into the pools page?

Btw, these things are extremely durable.  My cat knocked over a tower of 3 of them from off of about a 1.5 foot high shelf and they worked for the rest of the day until I got home and found them.

I just got my miner and plugged everything in correctly. I've had it turned on and it's still flashing the colors after 10mins, and it doesn't seem to be using the ethernet connection (I can see that the light isn't on for that port on the ethernet switch)? Any ideas whats wrong?

Usually it is going to be a connection someplace.

I would check your network cable, even try swapping it.

Do you see a red light that is illuminated on the orange pi? 
If not then double check the power connection to the controller board is firmly seated in the power plug.

Then double check your USB plug/cable to the first controller board connection.

Lastly check the cross connect serial cables.

These would be the places I would check.  It is usually something simple. 

Thanks, there is not a red light on the orange pi, however the ethernet port lights on the orange pi light up. the orange pi power cord seems as  securely fit as possible.. Seems mine is DOA :/

If you don't have a red light illuminated on the to of the pi then you may have a bad pi.  I will have to defer to Baikal on this one as they may know some tricks I don't on diagnosing this further. 

to check if the PI is bad
plug the HDMI output into a monitor
if you get a load of CPU errors  then it might just need a flash of the micro SD card 
i did have that issue on a few minis

if you are in the uk i have spare Orange PIs that i got from them if you pay the postage il send you one

I got everything working! It turned out my orange pi didn't come with a micro SD card in it. I went out and bought one and followed the Baikal guide on how to install the right files on it and then i plugged it into the orange pi and everything is well. Thanks though

I have one baikal mini miner. It works very well. I paid 500 USD before price is down. Now group buy is a good option for me. I will buy one a900 giant.

My 10 Giants arrived today. Will get them up and running as fast as possible and try to get some photos up here on the forum of them.

All the connections appear to be correct, but it won't power on.

If it is a stand alone PSU have you jumpered the mobo cable to trick the PSU to running without being connected to a PC?

Missing all cables as well. Grrr waited for two weeks to have these delivered too and now gonna be another week at least to get the accessories.

Thats wierd that i hear people are missing cables when recieving orders from baikal. I ordered 10 gaints and got 5 sets of extra cables and 2 extra rasperries in my order. Must be miss packaging on their part??

Guess so. I've got 3 miners at my hosting that can't connect without the 1 usb, 2 data and 1 power splitter that should have come with each miner.

My 10 Giants running like kittens :) no problem setting them up. Just like building legos...

it s really nice set up. if i find a solution to get them, i will buy 100 pcs giant. i made a private room for them. everything is ready. But i have to find avoid the customs. The customs is a big problem.

the baikal miners are stable and perfect. i have money to buy. But i dont have information about the customs. The customs in our country is so strange. i wish the baikal sells their miners in our country.

Baikal declared each unit cost 94$ so i payed 94$ customs for each unit. In my country i have to pay 25% of the total sum of purchase order so baikal helped me alot in clearing customs :) i would have been ALLLLOT more. Thanks Baikal

Got a Giant and another Mini.  Mini was paired with another to make a Dual  :).  Giant and Minis are easy and Pi to setup.

Question about the Giant's user interface:  I see the Extranonce check box on the Miner page.  It is selected ("Yes" is checked) but Nicehash is saying that it is not and "mining performance is degraded."  Is this true?  I tried to toggle the check box but it doesn't change the Nicehash page.  Should I ignore this?

1 Giant has 2 boards.... on the picture you can see a total of 8 boards. I have 4 Giants hooked up together.

Yeah, I spoke to them today and I can purchase one Giant (and only one) because I'm a new customer. I asked if I could get back to them tomorrow because I need to purchase the BTC and it was fine.

I'm assuming that they're limiting it to one per customer in order to "get the word out" and when everyone has one Giant, they'll be tempted to purchase more when they are available. Instead of some people buying all stock and the rest goes to a competitor or buys nothing at all.

Of course I would like to be in a new group buy, but I have the feeling that it'll take quite a while before another one appears. Like the organizer just said, they're almost out of stock which means that there's not enough stock for a group buy. I might get unlucky though and who knows, there might appear a group buy a week after I purchased mine, but we're taking risks in the crypto world all the time.

I have plenty of machines running at my place and a baby on the way.  These were a great deal when I picked them up, but there is an opportunity here to flip them at a good profit margin and I will take the immediate profit, even though they will probably generate well over that over the next few months.
