Title: Mine new coin: VoteCoin - equihash, very low difficulty now
Post by: votecoin.site on September 11, 2017, 06:38:56 AM
Hello miners. I would like to encourage you to mine VoteCoin, to get some free coins.
It is using equihash algo (like ZCASH, Komodo, Hush, etc.)

There is currently network hashrate of only 300Ksol/s

Currently VoteCoin is listed at tradesatoshi.com exchange

Download Windows wallet here:
https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin/releases

More infos at VoteCoin website:

If you can provide me with some info as to how to solo mine this coin i'll be happy to start mining it and a windows wallet would be nice also

To involve more miners in the project you need a public pool and windows miner 8) ;)

I don't wish to participate in ICO without any proper Mugshots and Linkedin!
There's no demo just concept of a coin.

You wouldn't have fared very well in the early cryptocurrency days then. This launch is about as old school as it gets, no working (Windows) wallets, no pools, it reminds me of early the Litecoin (scrypt) mining days when it was standard for new coins to launch similar to this.

New to mining and most definitely new to mining on Linux, but a coin at this low of a sat (not even having any technical value at the moment) has really perked my ears.

Is there any material I could read in regards to mining Votecoin? I'm a bit sick of one of my miner's Windows 7 OS and this would be, if anything, an educational experience.

Thanks in advance, y'all.

How to solo mine this with existing GPU miners?

First time read post from dev to recruit for miner, lol... Any premined, if yes how many %?

Title: Re: Mine new coin: VoteCoin - equihash, very low difficulty now
Post by: votecoin.site on September 12, 2017, 11:45:24 AM
I can see there are already new miners of VoteCoin, thank you very much for participating!

Regarding premine, yes there is official premine of 4.54%, this is already described on the website. This premine is sold to ICO participants for 0.00002 BTC per VOT. Everybody is welcome to participate, if you like.

Regarding mining instructions, officially supported is currently only the Linux CLI version, with CPU mining, I am sorry.

We plan lots of things, including public pool, windows wallet, etc, but that is a subject of funding - if sufficient funding is received through the ICO, everything will be implemented according to the roadmap (you can see milestones at the website).

I am sure there are miners out there already solo-mining with GPU, since one of the current miners has 800sol/s power on his own, so I believe it is somehow possible even without our official support, this guy probably has some custom software for that, which we are not aware of, but this is just my pure speculation.

In order to download and run the Linux client for CPU mining, you can follow these instructions:
https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin/blob/master/README.md

I hope the ICO campaign will go well and I hope we will be able to collect sufficient funging for our next milestone soon - public pool with 0% fee.

For VoteCoin wallet, you have to compile the software on Linux:
Github repo: https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin
We can provide precompiled binaries, if you prefer.
I'll also look into cross-compiling for Windows, but do not promise anything yet.

Why don't you create your own thread in announcements, with all the details and infos?
That's what serious devs usually do.

Title: Re: Mine new coin: VoteCoin - equihash, very low difficulty now
Post by: bravetheheat on September 12, 2017, 08:45:09 PM
This is a new coin, I think the better way should be puy the links for the announce of VoteCoin, if you do so, the miner could know more about the coin and decide to mine or not.

This coin is not listed in the exchanges, so that will be a drawback for the current stage of VoteCoin. If you want to ICO, the better way is listing the coin in the small exchanges.

Title: Re: Mine new coin: VoteCoin - equihash, very low difficulty now

I ran it for 3 hours before restarting again, never connected or showed sol/s.  I checked the votecoin.conf, everything was as it should be.  I set up zcash and hush before this the same way, no problem with those.  Only instruction I didn't follow from the readme was to launch as ./src/votecoind, because they don't appear to have renamed the files yet.  zcashd and zcash-cli filenames appear to still be in use.  But launching zcashd still brings up a votecoin themed daemon:

https://i.imgur.com/pdAUlWv.png

Not really sure what else to try, but suggestions are welcome.  I might reinstall it tomorrow.  Bummed to miss out on the early blocks before all the monster GPU rigs come in and dominate.

I'm having the same problem as coldstorage. I ran zcashd -debug (the binaries weren't renamed to votecoin) and found the following error:

Quote
connect() to 37.157.195.61:8144 failed after select(): Connection refused (111)

Maybe it's some sort of network problem  ???

Thanks for posting, I googled that error for a while, found someone suggesting renaming peers.dat (to .old, for example, while the daemon isn't running, when you run again, it will regenerate the file) in the hidden .votecoin directory where the .conf file is.  Didn't work for me, but I also found a bunch of debug errors relating to tor.  I think I might have some sort of iptables problem, and after searching on that, I just got a headache.  That stuff is over my head, but maybe the peers thing will work for you?  Good luck.

Thank you all who participate in mining.

If you had connection problems yesterday, it was completely my fault, I am sorry for that.
I shut down the seed node and forgot to add other nodes to dnsseed (DNS settings).
Due to that, you could not connect, because the only IP address returned from DNS was offline.

I am really sad about this because I realize that lots of you tried to fix the problem and wasted several hours. :(

Please try again now, the problem is fixed.

-Tom

Somebody has set up a pool with 2.5% fee.
It is not our official VoteCoin pool, but since we don't have own pool yet, you may try it.
http://votecoinmine.site

For example, if you have Nvidia GPU cards, you may use EWBF's miner like this:

miner.exe --pec --server votecoinmine.site --port 3032 --user YourVoteCoinTaddress --pass x

Warning! use at your own risk, may not function properly or may not pay you your reward.

I've noticed there is a disclaimer on your message indicating there is a mining pool available.

I've started mining there but noticed that all my tokens are kept as "immature". Do you have any more info regarding this one? do you think I should trust this pool?

If not, is there a way of solo mining with GPU right now?

Thanks!

if anyone wants to setup a pool I could help getting Znomp running for them ( for a small fee )  ... I'm testing VOT on znomp right now and just mined the first block .... waiting for the payout

if you want to check it out:

yep, linode.com is a hosting service, I can choose to use an Ubuntu machine for sure.

then you need a machine with ubuntu 16.04 on it and some like 40gb of storage and 4GB RAM (pool needs some memory to pay mined coins) and thats it :)

once you get the OS running you need to:

- set which coins you want to run on your pool
- download their wallets and sync them
- setup znomp and configure it for the coins you wan to run

and that i can do!

Since the introduction of the (unofficial and unsupported) testing pool, hashrate raised from 1000 Sol/s to 14 000 Sol/s. This increased the difficulty required to mine new blocks, but the testing pool is currently offline, so the remaining miners are still trying to find a block at the speed around 800Sol/s only.

This should stabilise hopefully in few hours.

EDIT:

Stopping it now (0:00 UTC) due to problems with payout engine, but will leave the pool's core running to process any pending coins payments

closing the stratum port will not allow any miners to connect ... to clarify that point

Thanks for putting that up megacrypto, even if just for a little while.  I for one am happy to pay fees if you want to put it back up sometime.  I'll probably stop mining if enough people get on though, I've got very little hashpower to offer, just trying to get some before I drown in all the gpu rig sol/s.

@ sp999, I might recommend you start with Zcash if you're interested in altcoins like this one, hush, zen and others.  All are forked off zcash's code, and zcash has pretty good documentation on setup.  So if you can set that one up, you'll find the others very familiar.

As soon as there's a pool you can mine with the equihash miners like claymore on windows.  The votecoin people intend to build a pool once their ICO reaches a certain benchmark.  You could buy into the ICO to help move it towards the mark.

I would like to thank you all who are participating in mining.
Current votecoin RPC client had an issue with reporting of block reward. It reported 100 VOT reward only.
This has been fixed, so all pool operators should upgrade to newest votecoin sources.

Official testing pool (0% fee) is here:
http://pool.votecoin.site/ (http://pool.votecoin.site/)

Connect to port 3333

Thanks to all folks who helped us make it running.
Please remember the pool is still in testing phase, so lets see how it works.

Ok, I've also setup a miningpool. Fee is currently at 0%. Cause this is still for testing.

I'm running a low and high difficulty stratum.

For users of Claymore there is also a SSL stratum for a reduced devfee.

Go to: http://votecoin.homepool.xyz

or just run:

Quote
ZecMiner64.exe -zpool ssl://51.15.50.34:3130 -zwal YOUR_WALLET -zpsw x -asm 1

Please let me know your feedback!

Official VoteCoin pool is currently slow on payouts.
Please if you can, switch to a different pools for few days, to decrease load, so your payouts are processed faster.
We're waiting on hardware upgrade, but this can take some time.

One pool with most of the capacity is unhealthy.

@votecoin.site the pool payment processing has very little to do with hardware and rather more to with the fact that blocks are being generated very quickly and require a long time to get verified by the network (over 200 confirmations) ... its either something with the wallets ... or the network needs more nodes / running wallets to make confirmations go quicker !!

i think the best thing that could help this is to release a windows wallet ASAP to get all the windows users online ...

this post is very old, and the person who had the idea decided to never develop his project.  So VOT coin did not exist.

for pool operators, if you want to show the "Payments" page just add the following in "website/index.html"

Code:
            <li class="{{? it.selected === 'workers' }}pure-menu-selected{{?}}">
                <a class="hot-swapper" href="/workers">
                    <i class="fa fa-cogs"></i>&nbsp;

Mining update
=======

For everyone wondering why payouts that such a hell of a time. ;-)

Newly mined blocks are required to be shielded (moved to a z-address), and afterwards to be unshielded for payout.

The calculation of these transactions take some processing time and the confirmation of the mined block, shielding and unshielding also required at least 100 confirmation.

This wouldn't be a problem if there were a lot of miners, but as this is the start of a new blockchain, the capacity is limited. Blocks are found faster than transactions can be confirmed by the network at this stage. This should smoothen as the difficulty rises.

Official pool has failed badly.
Moved it to better hardware, all the issues should be gone now.
But had to reset the pool.
Most of the payments were sent already, working on the remaining ones.

IP address of the pool has changed, but there is an issue with DNS time to live settings, will take up to 48 hours to update worldwide. If you cannot connect to pool.votecoin.site, try eupool.votecoin.site, port is the same.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

Its located in Italy.

I will try to maintain it as best as I can.

No fee for now as this is beta stage.

Dear all ... finally all payouts have been processed by the pool ... it took some time (and some technical adjustments to the setup of the pool) to process them .... but ... they are all out :)))

i believe that all miners got their coins as supposed to, but just in case anyone is missing anything (which technically should not be the case) or anyone has any questions regarding setting up their pool (i put some notes on the other thread https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2175113 (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2175113) ) ... please do not hesitate to PM me or just ask either here (hope not to flood this thread) or on the other thread :)))

cheers :)))  .....  and if anyone wants to send some donations ... please DO NOT HESITATE to do so :))))

I've a Windows 10 system. Installed Ubuntu 16.04 in Virtualbox. -->Git cloned -->Compiled successfully. (Took hour and a half). There is no file like votecoin.conf in VoteCoin Directory in the home folder. Tried the manual way to generate votecoin.conf but still no result in sight.

EDIT: Successfully done. (Probably facing some syntax errors before.)

You need to be in that directory to run it; navigate to that directory; (xxx is your account on your machine)

Code:
cd /home/xxx/VoteCoin

then try your command

Code:
./src/Votecoind

It should look like this

Code:
xxx@xxx-desktop:~/VoteCoin$ ./src/votecoind

Just generate an address and then you can start mining on your windows, Linux - any distros. Just get equihash miner, point to a pool, enter your address and start mining.

There must be some syntax issues that you might be facing. Ubuntu folder naming is case-sensitive. So if your folder is VoteCoin inside your home directory and you are running commands as votecoin. It won't do nothing.

Cannot see anything for the second address though.
How much you're missing?
already got them, thanks, second address I use on another pool, sorry for misunderstanding

Open another terminal while the node is running and generate a new address. If you already have an address, just run
Code:
./votecoin-cli z_getbalance *address*
inside src directory.

Thanks for help, I tried to use it on Windows bash shell, and that is the reason why it did not worked.
I took another approach and installed VMware player and ubuntu on virtual mahine, and than I got my address :)
Now mining with excavator on Windows :)

I can confirm that the guide on github works flawlessly on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Server, after you finished Building & Configuring your node create an address with this command inside the VoteCoin dir:
./src/votecoin-cli getnewaddress

Then you can start mining with the pool using this parameters (for example EWBF Miner):
./miner --server pool.votecoin.site --user YOUR-ADDRESS --pass z --port 3333

A few minutes and i see the hash rate on the worker stats.

Now what i expect from the developers is a detailed explaination/whitepaper (i cannot download it from your site) so we can see what makes the difference between the other 99999 coins around with always the same features

There is no windows wallet available as of now. Yes, you can mine without an address but on someone's else address and you probably won't get your coins. So, getting your own address is a must. Follow the guide, set up votecoin node, generate an address, backup private key and you're good to go.

If the interest is high enough, I might want to develop a web wallet.

Just so that people can start mining.

But keep in mind that it would be without any warranty as it would just be a hobby project for me. Don't know how secure this could get, as I need to dive into the working of ZCash core. So probably just for mining until a windows or OSX wallet is available and then you'd be advised to transfer funds. Just as you would do with large amounts on online exchanges, or at least as you should do ;-)

Please let me know if there is interest in such a thing?!

It should be possible to cross-compile the VoteCoin sources on Linux to get an EXE file which can run on Windows (thanks to mingw). I believe that zclassic has some way how to do that, but we were not able to use it:
https://github.com/z-classic/zclassic/blob/master/zcutil/build-win.sh (https://github.com/z-classic/zclassic/blob/master/zcutil/build-win.sh)
I believe that having just votecoind.exe and votecoin-cli.exe could be more than sufficient for most people now. But we need to find a way how to compile this ourselves, we can't distribute precompiled EXE file made by somebody else.

Last time we tried, it complained about db_cxx.h not found, even if it was in /usr/include ...

Never though I would be able to do it since I have no clue about Linux (first time today!!) but I set up a node and will let it run every now and then. Hope it helps get the network a little faster. Already did more than 23k transaction confirmations. Started extremely fast and now slowed down a lot. I guess you needed me... ;)

But:
Can anybody post a full .bat file for Windows mining with Excavator or any other Windows miner? I'm trying but Excavator gets stuck while initializing. Getting AMD display errors (and have Nvidia).
Not sure what I'm doing wrong. Used Claymore and CCminer until now for other Coins and got them to work.
Used both votecoinmine.site pool versions mentioned here (with Stratum and without) but none worked.

Thank you for help.

You don't have to wait, you can do as I did:
- download VMWare Player (free non comercial use)
- download ubuntu 16.04 LTS ISO

Install WMWare Player and create new system on it, pick the downloaded ISO and the only thing you have to configure is capacity on hard driver(I suggest about 25GB)
Than you will be able to create wallet as on VoteCoin project's GitHub instructions.

It's easy.

Once you create your wallet, you can start mining on Windows mining software.

No market yet. This is waaaayyyy before ICO even. If you mine this you need to understand: You never know - this might never hit the market. So mine and/or help at your own risk. But if it hits the market you already have hundreds - if not hundreds of thousands - of coins already. It's a gamble. But with great potential to make a ton of money.... ;)

I'm not very knowledgeable here (since I just started) but I compiled the wrong program first.
Are you sure you're compiling "votecoin_build_fedora.sh". I used "build.sh" before and it caused problems.

Title: Re: Mine new coin: VoteCoin - equihash, very low difficulty now

He shouldn't use "votecoin_build_fedora.sh" as ubuntu is debian ;) So the correct version is "votecoin_build_debian.sh".

Try apt-get update and than ap-get upgrade, after that remove all VoteCoin folder and start again. Make sometimes keeps it's cache(or something ;) ) I had the same problem, starting again helped :)

The difficulty is actually surprisingly high. I only mined about 50 VOT's in about 8 hours on a 1060 3GB. That's the same amount I mine XVG (and they have a brighter future tbh). I will mine a few more days to see if it gets a little better and might switch back to XVG.
I just started the whole Cryptocurrency and mining thing a month ago and don't have a big rig yet so I gotta choose something with a future and an actual return for now since I'm mainly testing the waters so far. Big rig will be built in a few weeks. Then I will for sure come back to VOT. I will still leave the node running every now and then though to help out a little.

There is a serious problem with the core daemon, that should be attent to.

When you use z_exportwallet to export the wallet and import it on another device. Shielded transactions cannot be unshielded anymore! You will get the error Witness for note commitment is null.

Best reason for mining this is because it's low difficulty?
I don't see a lot of features.

I think the difficulty is not really low now...

Hi
 excuse me
how mined Xvg???and how much with one GPU??
Thanks say to me

Yeah that is a good one. Maybe also that is the only reason for mining it. Does not seem to have all that huge potential.

Could someone of the team also tell us how this coin will be used and how features will be implemented?

Why my balance got stuck on 40.81 on http://votecoin.homepool.xyz

Quote
Immature: 0  Bal: 40.81011309  Paid: 774.24290344

Do I need to do something? or any issue with the pool??

There is quite some delay. Just moved the wallet to server with lot more RAM.

Hope it'll catch up soon.

Well, can you help me with this?

i have 1 mining rig with 4 GTX 1070. waiting for windows wallet

Thanks for this. Now my laptop is ready for linux only wallets. Installed ubuntu 16.04 LTS and ran build_debian.sh just like the instructions say to do. =)

There is a serious problem with the core daemon, that should be attent to.

When you use z_exportwallet to export the wallet and import it on another device. Shielded transactions cannot be unshielded anymore! You will get the error Witness for note commitment is null.

This problem also seem to exist in the ZCash core, and it's still an open issue! See: https://github.com/zcash/zcash/issues/2524

The issue causes homepool currently not to be able to pay miners as shielded funds are locked into shielded addresses! Please attent to this serious issue!
Did you try stopping the daemon and restarting it with -rescan parameter? Like: votecoind -rescan
This is what some people suggested to do.
You can send me your wallet.dat file and I'll see what we can do, if anything.

I'm getting 140-160 XVG a day which makes it an average of 50 per 8 hours.
It's a Gigabyte 1060 3GB. Driver V385.41.
Settings are +160 Core and +683 Mem making it 1556/4482Mhz. 67 Degrees. Fan is set on auto but I set everything a little higher because of the temperatures here in SoCal.

Edit: The GPU has Samsung Memory which makes it a little faster than GPU with Hynix Memory. I learned that from the "Bits be tripping" youtube channel so I made sure I got exactly this 1060.

I would think mining gets harder when the windows wallet is available. Took about an hour to compile the wallet and 15min to install ubuntu in vmplayer (free).

Given the relatively low difficulty, you might want to go ahead and install the linux package in a VM and generate a wallet. You don't need the VM to mine.

Hi @votecoin.site

Am a bit new to this, so correct/educate me if i am wrong.

I was just looking through github sources and can see the changes to premine 1M coins in the first block and then 125 coins per block after that, as well as the removal of the founders reward

4.54% premine documented for contributors equates to about 10M coins (cap 220M coins)

We are on block 15590 - at 125 VOT/block + block 1 - thats is about 1.95M + 1M VOT awarded so far

So where did the 10M coins come from for the premine ?

When we made our first patches to the source code, we kept 12.5 block reward and added 1M reward for the first block, with total supply of 22 million coins. This was made in the patch you are referring to.

But later during the pre-release phase, we decided to increase that 10 times, to 220 million coins total supply, and set the first block reward to 10M. This change is made in another patch, which is called "better marketing strategy" and you can find it at github here:

Windows Wallet:

You can get windows wallet by using Bash on Windows 10. More info: https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/ (https://www.howtogeek.com/249966/how-to-install-and-use-the-linux-bash-shell-on-windows-10/)

I've built as said on the Github (with small changes):

Code:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install git
git clone https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin.git
cd ./VoteCoin/zcutil
sudo bash votecoin_build_debian.sh

then simply
Code:
#If you finished Installation:
cd ..
#If You opened new bash window
cd VoteCoin
and
Code:
./src/votecoind

This will start it.

Now open new bash window, and
Code:
cd VoteCoin
then you can use wallet:

Address:
./src/votecoin-cli getnewaddress

Shielded Address:
./src/votecoin-cli z_getnewaddress

Get Balance:
./src/votecoin-cli getbalance
./src/votecoin-cli z_getbalance <wallet>

And make transaction (NOT Tried YET):
Quote
./src/votecoin-cli z_sendmany FROM_ADDR '[{"address": "TO_ADDR", "amount": 123}]' 1 0

In the above mentioned example, both FROM_ADDR and TO_ADDR can be either T addresses or Z addresses or combination. The last two numbers (1 0) stand for minConf and fee. In the example above, the coins on FROM_ADDR must have at least 1 confirmation, and fee is set to zero.

Remember that coinbase transaction (sending newly mined coins) must be done from a T address to a Z address. So if you wish to send newly mined coins to a T address, you need to send them to a Z address first and then make another transaction from that Z address to the T address destination.

After a transaction is executed using z_sendmany, you can check its status by using:

./src/votecoin-cli z_getoperationresult

Official windows wallet released.
It is not GUI wallet yet, it is only a text-mode server and client.
Download is 853 MB. The big size is due to the proving key to be included in the released, to make it simple for users to download and use.

first run votecoind
after votecoin-cli

useful commands:
getnewaddress
getbalance
z_getnewaddress
sendtoaddress

and 'help' for sure

for example 'votecoin-cli getnewaddress' will give you a new address, ready for mining

there are already windows miners for equihash
any ZEC miner will work - claymore or EWBF for example

You need to open a console, for example run "cmd" or "command" in windows, then you can type votecoin-cli with arguments ...

Is there a copy of this in the alt coin announcement section of the site?
If not there probably should be.

@votecoin.site

Maybe you should fork: https://github.com/MyHush/hush-swing-wallet-ui the swing wallet when your source depends on zcash it could be a better solution then command line options and running two command prompts.

It seems to work with a few changes - everything is "HUSH" of course but basically its a VoteCoin wallet now - not tested sending yet - just sent a coin from the votecoin-cli to this running over the windows wallet as supplied by the official devs

Result :)

Transfer to and from Shielded addresses seem to work as well - i might consider making this a full customisation and releasing.

It works with the "official" votecoin windows binaries (should also work in Linux as well but have not tested) - you just run it over the top of the windows official version

The minimum difficulty is set to 0.04 and max to 4096 (1 Difficulty is actually 8192, so 4096 difficulty is actually 33554432).
Is this still low for you? Is your mining software able to negotiate the right difficulty?
We've added port 4444, you can test it.

Do we know if there has been any applications to exchanges / which ones if so?

So far we've send applications to these exchanges:

Poloniex - applied for enhanced account verification, which is needed to submit new coin for consideration. Still no reply from support
Bittrex - applied for enhanced account verification, which is needed to submit new coin for consideration. Still no reply from support
Coinexchange.io - there is 1 BTC listing fee and 7 days waiting time -> acceptable fee, but very low volume on this exchange
cryptopia.co.nz - listing fee as of now is 5000000 DOT (approx. 5 BTC) -> too expensive
hitbtc.com - 6 months listing - fee 6 BTC /per market -> too expensive
yobit.com - 0.1 BTC listing fee and a few days waiting time -> good terms, but very low volume on this exchange

Our top priority is to get listed on Poloniex or Bittrex. If we are not able to get listed on these exchanges in reasonable time, we will consider listing VOT on some smaller exchanges. So if you guys have any favourite exchanges, send us your tips and we will get in touch with them.

That's impressive!
Poliniex and bittrex of course are the preferred option, but good to see yobit on there as a backup as you can still do a reasonable volume for a starter.
Agreed that the others are too expensive for what they offer.

For the official pool (pool.votecoin.site), everything is working as it should. Make sure you are checking your stats on correct pool's website. Make sure your address is a T address generated using votecoin-cli getnewaddress.

Hi guys,

Quick question, at the beginning, votecoin provide a temporary pool, waiting to have their own,

http://votecoin.homepool.xyz/

As many of us, I start on it but when votecoin introduce the http://pool.votecoin.site/ we all switch on it,
So far, I'm quite sad 'cause I have several coin blocked as immature on the 1st pool :
https://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/347243VoteCoinHomePool.png (https://www.hostingpics.net/viewer.php?id=347243VoteCoinHomePool.png)

Is it normal ? (Im still not getting all subtilities of pool/mining and so on...)

Thanks !

Just a note, that pool was not managed by votecoin team.
The owner of that pool either has troubles sending the payments, or he decided to keep the coins.
@PaulusDixit: if you need help fixing the payouts, feel free to contact us, we should be able to help you so users can get their payments.

There are some issues, due to migration of the coinserver.

After rescanning unshielding still didn't work. So balances are kinda locked.

I'd like to transfer all the funds, that are pending to be paid. But some balances keep being immature for some reason. (And I really don't want to transfer everything manually, as you might imagine.)

Could someone confirm if the pool still works if an amount is just unshielded without the pool administering it?

My request was quite clusmy and it wasn't my attention to offend you ;)
I totally know the Beta version of this pool when it came up.
It was just an 'innocent/newbie' question

Thanks both for your feedback !

Preface: I'm new to mining, have never used anything other than NiceHash which is just meh

Question: I have a CPU which is just lying around with free electricity so I thought I'll give VoteCoin a try - the idea looks interesting :) I've downloaded the wallet, unzipped it, generated wallet address and so on. Also kept running votecoind in the background.

Now my question is Can I even mine with a CPU? How do I actually start mining? Do I need to download any other miner software and point it to some pool?

Thanks in advance.

I will try this on Windows 7 x64. When will you release GUI wallet for x64?

Hello miners. I would like to encourage you to mine VoteCoin, to get some free coins.
It is using equihash algo (like ZCASH, Komodo, Hush, etc.)
There is currently network hashrate of only 100Ksol/s
Currently VoteCoin is not listed at any exchange yet. So it is unclear what the price will be.
But we're running ICO and there are already some users who buy VOT for 0.00002 BTC.
Download Windows wallet here:
https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin/releases/download/v1.0.11-win32/VoteCoin.standalone.Win32.zip
More infos at VoteCoin website:
https://votecoin.site/
Official mining pool (0% fee) is here:

Practically, no! 2-7 sol is often quoted (votecoind can mine but ..)- the network hash is currently > 700 K - you might get 1 coin every now and again

If you gonna mine with one cpu that runs your node, put
Code:
gen=1
line at the end of your .conf file. Its not officially stated, but i believe you can also put
Code:
genproclimit=X
line in it to set X number of threads (cpu cores) to mine with, -1 for max.

Restart your node, and that should do it. Note that i havent tested this because, as others said, its very inefficient to mine Votecoin with cpu.

For mining with two or more cpus, you need to pick mining pool and CPU mining software for Equihash - these are maybe more optimized.

Basically, all balances should be mature now, since your last block found was long time ago. Maturing block takes 100 more blocks only. I guess those are just marked as immature, but are OK to be sent.

There are several problems with the z-nomp software which needs to be addressed for proper operation.
First of all, you need to fix unshielding limit, it is hardcoded in z-nomp to 100 VOT, but block reward is 125, so that stupid limit doubles the time needed to unshield coins. Setting the limit to 1000 works just fine.
Next thing is that minConf is set to 10 in config, which seems too high to me, so each shielding then waits 10 blocks before unshielding, and each unshielding then wait another 10 blocks before money can be paid. So you may consider lowering minConf to 3.
Finally, z-nomp is sometimes experiencing problems while waiting for z-transaction to complete (while it already completed long time ago). So this needs to be addressed too. You may need to restart z-nomp from time to time or fix it permanently by modifying sources to disable waiting for finished tx (not recommended in your particular case)

I am not sure if the z-nomp software continues properly sending out the payments even if the pool has no miners. But it should since the payouts are scheduled by time.

This is fine. Just close it with Ctrl+C and start again. It is properly synced, just wrongly displayed.

Hey, guys? what happening with pool? i turned on some workers.. about 320ksol, and cant see my statistic :-)
We noticed this too. The cause of the problem is unknown. All miners were still registered successfully, mining was OK, just the website didn't load so fast. After restarting z-nomp the problem was fixed. Really not sure why was that. It is always a problem to debug things on a third party software...

Now my question is Can I even mine with a CPU? How do I actually start mining? Do I need to download any other miner software and point it to some pool?
Windows wallet does not support mining. Nevertheless, you can't use the wallet to mine on the pool anyway. So, your solution is this:
find a third party software which can mine equihash algorithm on CPU. It doesn't matter what coin, all equihash-based coins will work, including VoteCoin. Simply download that software and run it with appropriate parameters to connect to the pool.

I will try this on Windows 7 x64. When will you release GUI wallet for x64?
The text-mode wallet runs in 64bit windows too.
GUI wallet for Windows will be developed and released only after our last milestone is reached.
If we never reach it, we will try to find other funding sources, but no guarantees.

1 KSol/s should get you about 43 VOT per 24h at the current hashrate. (850 KSol/s) Maybe I'm a bit off, but this is kinda what it is currently.

Here are correct  calculation  (http://whattomine.com/coins/166-zec-equihash?utf8=%E2%9C%93&hr=1000.0&br_enabled=true&br=125.0&d_enabled=true&d=16000.0&p=360.0&fee=0.0&er_enabled=true&er=0.00002000&cost=0.1&hcost=0.0&commit=Calculate)
it depends not on hashrate, but on diff

it's a around 80 coins/day with the diff 16k (last few blocks have 15500-15800 diff) for 1ksol
I put 2000sat price, so you can estimate a reward.

Is that the 100 BTC (Linux) or 200 BTC (Windows/MAC) milestone

By that i mean .. have you progressed towards the goal or are you waiting for funding before initiating the next phase ..

The wallet is not my concern .. the voting mechanism/functionality is .. Does that start at 100 BTC ? Has that started already ?

Just start miner on another computer and put your old wallet in bat-file (or in command line as an argument).

You can export your private key on wallet 1 and import on wallet 2 - you can then access the coins on both wallets

You will have to read the command line docs or use one of the existing unofficial wallets to do that.

I DON'T have the time to help you do that but it works - i have done a few times

The easiest way is to copy your current wallet.dat and replace it on second machine.
So you'll have two copies of the same wallet on both machines.
Always make a backup of your main wallet.dat if you don't dump a private key.

If you just want to start mining on second rig, you don't need to make a wallet.
Make two workers.

here are example for two rigs:
Nvidia EWBF
1) miner --server votecoinmine.site --user your_wallet.rig1 --pass any --port 3333 --eexit 3
2) miner --server votecoinmine.site --user your_wallet.rig2 --pass any --port 3333 --eexit 3

AMD Claymore
1) ZECMiner64.exe -zpool stratum+tcp://votecoinmine.site:3333 -zwal your_wallet.rig1 -zpsw any
2) ZECMiner64.exe -zpool stratum+tcp://votecoinmine.site:3333 -zwal your_wallet.rig2 -zpsw any

You'll see two workers on pool and they will mine for one wallet address, like this one (http://votecoinmine.site/workers/t1ZZA6mqdddpiG3kP9SGavHdMeXAnsYfWXA)

Importing altcoins is a good idea but if you really want transfer your wallet than you can easily see various methods online. But important thing to note is to secure integrity of you coins. Other than that my suggestion would also be to start mining on bitcoins because it has a lot more profit in it.

What i have to do from here because nothing happen from 1h ?
http://i66.tinypic.com/14wgdpk.jpg

Ctrl+C --> Stop the node --> Run the node again.
After running the node, you can generate a new address and start mining.

there are two win GUI shells for votecoin.
it's a little bit easier for unexperienced users to run them.

simply put one of them in the same folder as votecoind, run votecoind and after sync run a gui shell.
it's almost as simple as any other wallet.

Ian's java wallet (GUI client)
https://github.com/ianpjohnson/votecoin-swing-wallet-ui/releases/tag/0.68.6.votecoin

Makalone's wallet (GUI client)
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzoG9JwbaxccSW5KZzk5V0tCeTA/view?usp=sharing

and official win wallet (daemon + command line client)
https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin/releases/download/v1.0.11-win32/VoteCoin.standalone.Win32.zip

Each ICO participant gets unique bitcoin address to send his BTC to, this makes our tracking easier, and it also protects privacy of our investors. Due to this, there is no such single address which would contain the entire sum at once. Furthermore, we've already spent some of the received funds on ICO listing sites, advertising, etc, so it is impossible to show you a BTC address with all the funds received anyway.

Dont you have QT ?

Its easy

1. download the official commandline wallet (https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin/releases/download/v1.0.11-win32/VoteCoin.standalone.Win32.zip)
2. Extract files in to folder u desire
3. Run votecoind.exe (and keep it running in the background)
4. Open a new commandline, and go to the votecoin folder (cd C:\Users\....) like this for example (https://puu.sh/xSuwh/24ef1b1372.png)
5. Type vot addr & press enter (this will generate a new VOT addr for u) example : https://puu.sh/xSuyg/7874a94c2d.png
6. Now download Makalon's GUI client (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzoG9JwbaxccSW5KZzk5V0tCeTA/view?usp=sharing)
7. Extract it in the same folder u extracted the official wallet in
8. Open VoteCoinWallet.exe
9. Boom!

Good luck & Happy mining

We will restart pool soon, to add high diff port.
At the moment nicehash won't work with our poll or official pool as well even on high diff port.
Nice ask for a higher diff.
It takes only a minute, don't worry.

create new .bat in the same folder
votecoin-cli.exe listaddressgroupings >addr1.txt
you'll get all addresses with balances in a file addr1.txt which already have transactions
or
votecoin-cli.exe getaddressesbyaccount "" >addr2.txt
just a list of addresses

BTW someone is solomining very hard, network in more than 1MSol

In the windows CLI wallet, "vot totals" command show your total. I spent a night transferring from my ubuntu wallet to windows, and it was odd how some of the coins disappeared for a while until I let it go for a while, hours. Any commands you are looking for search zcash wallet commands.

Oh goodness, this sounds like a headache.

I mean bitcoin core or bitsend or whatever wallet ,  is the container of your address so i dont understand how this works on command line, because that address i generate , how does your VOT totals understand that it is for the address you have generated. i just dont understand this.

Now i am worried i have been mining for hours for nothing.

I'm a little late to the party but just pointed 1.5 KSOL to the pool,

How can I calculate coin yield per day / week . month from that based on current difficulty ?
I've taken away about 30% of my ETH mining efforts to point to this. So its a bit of a gamble!

Will there be efforts to list VoteCoin on major exchanges after the ICO finishes ?
What happens if the ICO doesn't reach target ?

1. You can calculate on whattomine.com, algorithm is equihash, you get can difficulty from http://explorer.votecoin.site/ last block.
2. Now devs are waiting for response from Poloniex.
3. If ICO doesn't reach target, you will receive some extra bonus.
from official site:

Coins unsold at the end date of ICO will be distributed between current contributors in proportion to their purchased value. So for example if only half of the coins is sold through ICO, all participating users will receive additional 100% bonus reward!

There is something I can do on my end to make me more likely to "find" the block than you, even if we both have the same hashrate. If you don't know how to do this, then you are getting yourself screwed by using luckpool. Having a *low* ping makes this easier to manipulate, not a high ping like you said above.

The site looks good, I am supporting mining coins. Is there calculator to check profitability? I would try renting miner on hasnice so need info

Now it's more profitable buy coin ICO rather than rent nicehash.

Yes but is my mining command and output correct?
Also, what do you think of Manchester United versus Manchester City versus Chelsea versus Liverpool versus Spurs versus Arsenal's chances to win the premier league?
And lastly, why is this Solo mining, i just dont get it , because it is a pool.

Poloniex?!! I dont want to be the mood killer here, but seriously?
Poloniex are not listing NEO that is a 1.5 BILLION dollar market cap coin, but instead will list this unknown one? How do you see that happening?
This coin will never be listed on Bittrex or Poloniex as their first exchange. I repeat - never! They are exceptions of course, for example "your father is the owner of the exchange" and similar kind.
Maybe can be done in the future when you have a million dollars value and some kind of proven success on lower exchanges, but now is not possible.

Guys be realistic and stop talking about polo or trex like you have some chance, because you look very amateurish. What you need is some smaller exchange to start the ball rolling.
Good luck!

Yeah, Poloniex is a very unrealistic goal for a startup coin to target as it's first exchange.  Try something like coinexchange.io or NovaExchange etc... for the first exchange. You will need to show major marketcap or very high volume of daily trade to get on a big boy site like Poloniex, and you can't generate either of those things without getting on multiple smaller exchanges first.

Hi, when you say try pool in the first page, do you mean  something like this   ---->     http://pool.votecoin.site/

As for this --->  stratum+tcp://s.zolo.bid:8057   --- how do you know is it is solo or not? i mean do u still get rewards for shares or do u only get rewards for finding a block?
Sorry, i dont understand yet.

I have mined solo against a wallet , like Digibyte coin using the Skein algorithm, which involves updating a .conf file and then starting the wallet and then running your miner...

This seems different which i am trying to grasp, thanks.

Nevertheless, does my command above look correct and is it actually mining, thank you again

How to use a wallet?

just download wallet from OP link and read instruction.
You need to start votecoind via command line, wait until sync, create your own address by using votecoin-cli and put the address to your miner config

Thanks for the answer, already tried to figure it out in the list of commands, but without the experience of working with the command line, nothing comes out, I'll wait for the GUI version.

Can you write a sequence of commands to create a wallet? If I understand correctly, then I need to generate and save.

I'm confused in an abundance of teams votecoin-cli.exe help

The answer to all questions is found here https://github.com/Tomas-M/VoteCoin

create new .bat in the same folder
votecoin-cli.exe listaddressgroupings >addr1.txt
you'll get all addresses with balances in a file addr1.txt which already have transactions
or
votecoin-cli.exe getaddressesbyaccount "" >addr2.txt
just a list of addresses

BTW someone is solomining very hard, network in more than 1MSol

Hi boo,
The address iam using already is from my piped votecoin-cli.exe getnewaddress > myaddy.txt.
I have this in that txt and my miner.bat of course.

I will try your commands later on, but not really understanding what i do with that .txt output?
I mean how do i know i am the owner of the address i am using.

In the windows CLI wallet, "vot totals" command show your total. I spent a night transferring from my ubuntu wallet to windows, and it was odd how some of the coins disappeared for a while until I let it go for a while, hours. Any commands you are looking for search zcash wallet commands.

Everything working like a charm.
Describe specifically what your problem is.

We've setup much temp wallets at start for miners and already send them their rewards.
I've also test myself linux and win versions, and they are working flawless, both t and z wallets.

That's make your post looks like a fud.

When I thought they were lost I made a shielded address in linux and sent the linux transparent pool mined coins to that, then the now shielded linux coins to my transparent windows wallet. Ended up not needing to do that. From linux to windows some transactions were nearly instant and others took hours. No idea why, just had to wake up to my windows wallet magically correct.

I will start mining this soon and let u know how it goes.

I went to dos and ran the deamon and then i waited a bit then i opened another dos prompt and i type VOT totals
it then shows me 18.something odd.

I dont understand though, how do you know you own that .... nobody has answered me here on this.
Normally with other wallets u get your own .DAT file.

Same with Monero, what a painful ugly wallet itself is so bloody slow and it is also slow to synch., its stupid.

I had no problems sending from a mix of addresses from Linux to Windows wallet. Some of the transfers took forever though and didn't show up in the block explorer until much later. CLI said a small amount, but block explorer wallet showed the correct amount.

Proof in the pudding... :)
Agg these days guys can make up log files.

Im mining some monero at the moment, and i have to say that the monero wallet gui is alot of busllshit, its so slow and horrible.

I will come to votecoin soon with my measly 2 RX470's.
I hope i can at least least mine 1 coin.
I dont even have 1 coin for Monero.

Not being a funny guy, but i dont really follow your story that well, i am not that experienced like u.
I will start mining this soon and let u know how it goes.
I would like help if i run in to a wall.

General inquiry -

The only public VoteCoin pool that I'm aware of (http://pool.votecoin.site/), states the following:

"Global stats":

equihash
~162 miners
~279 KSol/s

&

Pools / Coins

votecoin
~162 miners
~279 KSol/s

https://imgur.com/RSo67Hv

The VoteCoin node states the following:

"Network solution rate | ~385044 Sol/s"

https://imgur.com/8Tbz9KD

If both figures are representing what I believe to be the total hashrate for all VOT mining. The difference of ~100 KSol/s, that's my inquiry.

Is this an instance of solo mining that's accounted for in the node but not in the pools "global stats"?

Thank you,

greatcoinholio

My next question which i have already asked and still no answer:
".....I dont understand though, how do you know you own that .... nobody has answered me here on this.

How do you solely own the address which you generate, this is what i dont understand.
I understand i generated the addy and then i mine to itm, but how do i retain it on another clean windows should my computer crash.
If i change computers then how do i save my wallet.address is what i am asking.
I hops this makes more sense.

My wallet has a DAT file which is found in the linux directory ./votecoin

my windows also has a dat file which is located in the extracted directory from the ZIP

Sadly the difficulty has now risen to a point my 6x 1080ti have stopped finding blocks in a reasonable time, and because its not listed on an exchange yet and I can not justify what the price will be, I am going back to Zcash

You EXPORT THE WALLET using the command you can see with the cli -help command (RTFM)
You can then import the PRIVATE key into the windows wallet using either the command line or the unofficial java swing gui

Also it's good to spread network hashrate.

Any equihash algorithm miner will work like EWBF miner which will work for votecoin. As for exchanges, only developers can fill you up on that.

Any equihash miner also, fo win or linux, claymore of ewbf or any else.
Also win wallet is available.

How much would 175 coins be in USD?

As of writing this the current price is 0.00000390 satoshis,

----------------------Math-----------------------------

0.00000390 x 175 = 0.0006825 BTC = 4.06 USD

Anybody may correct me if I am wrong.

There are more details on the website. Only time can tell what this coin can provide to cryptocurrency community.
Moreover, if you have 8x GTX 1060.
Total hashrate: 300 Sol/s * 8 = 2400 Sol/s
Total Coins Mined in a day (Considering Current Hashrate): [ (2400 Sol/s) / ( 298480 Sol/s) ] * 72000 = 579 Coins (approx.)
Currently Trading @ 0.0000025 BTC/coin, thus 579 * 0.0000025 BTC = 0.0014475 BTC ~ 8.10 USD
A Dollor a GPU. Not bad, but definitely not great. If in chance it increases in future, then it is too lucrative to mine as of now.

If you're running your pool, please set your Hex identification so the block explorer could identify you.
In z-nomp software,  you can edit transactions.js, find the line where z-nomp sets its hash, and change it to yours.
To generate your hash, you can use this online tool:
http://string-functions.com/string-hex.aspx
Best format of your string is: YourPoolName http://yourPoolAddress.com/

When you're ready, send us PERSONAL MESSAGE through this forum with block ID of your newest mined block.
It can be for example URL like this:
http://explorer.votecoin.site/block/000000314e0d7ede4155bc8d138d3a38f8e56b289d516bc3eb8cf7343adcfef5

We will update our block explorer to list your pool (including hyperlink) on each block you mine.
Thanks!

Hi devs, the mining difficulty auto-adjust feature on pool.votecoin.site doesn't work well. Chain you please change it to allow me to set my own static difficulty?

Running a rig at 3000 sol/s, the difficulty auto-adjusts too high to where I only submit 1 share every 25 sec avg. I prefer every 3-4 sec avg. If this is currently possible then how do I do it?

Also, you claim that your pool is PPLNT but in practice it looks to actually be PPS. Can you clarify the details?

I checked the z_getbalance  "address" command. It shows 0. Does the pool indicate that 70 coins were mined? What am I doing wrong? Thank you.

do you try
Code:
votecoin-cli z_gettotalbalance
command?
And do you see your transaction in blockexplorer. I tried to mine on this pool, but I used transparent addresses

mining ZEC will give you at least 15% less profit VS VOT now even with price around 100sat, so it's up to you and for sure it's a good idea to hold votecoin, it's only a start.
join our pool --> http://vot.nibirupool.com

Checking it again now, but I looked into it last week and was not sure what I thought. It is a very close zcash fork, and there may be nothing changed other than the names. I ran an older CPU on the daemon for a couple hours and produced a huge amount of "validations" and never saw a dime to the wallet. Checking again at this moment and will get back to you guys, but I see no reason at this point to not just mine zcash.

Mission: to crack DNA

At the 2015 Economic Davos Forum in Davos a professor of the European Bioinformatics Institute Nick Goldman announced a competition: the one who cracks a DNA code will understand the way to get 1 bitcoin as a reward.

The challenge was accepted. A PhD student Sander Wuyts and his small team did what they first believed to be impossible. To increase the probability of solving the problem, they even held a “small hackathon”.

In the initial data there was a description on how to claim the bitcoin, a drawing by James Joyce, the logo of the European Bioinformatics Institute, and few other things.

The winner says that after his deed his consciousness has changed, and new horizons for research have opened. The received prize Sander Wuyts will use to fund his scientific work, and, of course, to reward those who helped him to crack the code.

It’s funny that at the time of the challenge`s announcement the cost of one coin was at the level of 329 US dollars, and the prize was received already at the rate of 11 000 USD.
