The only thing that Bitspend has a upper hand on is, they have staff and a support team. Maybe not a VERY responsive team but they still have one. Bitsumo, if it wants to become a competitor will need to hire a few staff in the future. I hope to see this service grow. It's starting to look promising. Maybe, a few mistakes, but that happens.

I believe their support is good at the moment. But, if this becomes popular 1/2 people aren't going to be enough.

I dont know how its for Americans, but for Europeans its a pain in the ass.
Basically they will only let you order off Amazon or Ebay and sometimes not even that.

They needed to move their bank. What's that bank which allow Bitcoin deposits? I'm not sure, I seen it the other day. It's sad for bitspend as they were doing so well. But, they made a lot of enemies on the way. Bitsumo needs to make te right decisions and grow.

Just to let everyone know: there has been a spike in sales because of the Bitspend situation but we are still processing all orders same day.

Arrangements have been made and will start to go into effect early next week to handle even higher volumes so delays are not expected; if they do happen, you can expect us to inform you before you pay for your order.

Our bank has recently made us aware of a new 3% service fee for orders placed at international web stores with a debit card. As such, we will be forced to levy an additional 2 USD plus 2.5% fee on all orders placed at web stores outside the United States of America.

We are as unhappy with this situation as we are sure most of you are but it is beyond our control. The current 2.5% plus 3 USD fee for international orders, accounting for the 3% being charged by our bank and considering our costs of moving money, left us at an almost negative return.     It's an issue of volume. We normally use international cards and these cards have set fees plus a percentage when used outside of the country where they have been issued (Not the U.S.). When ordering very small items, like a few dollars worth, yes, the 3 USD fee can seem like a lot; but in the end it's the only way we can be a dollar ahead of break even. We are working to move our account over to a Bitcoin friendly bank and hopefully their cards won't have these fees.

Please don't think we are profiteering or taking advantage of the Bitspend fiasco, this is really a boutique business, we don't even run advertising; we are trying to scale up slowly and focus on customer service :).

  I have an inconvenient announcement; our main credit card got cloned. No customer funds were jeopardized and under U.S. Law all stolen monies will be returned to us within 24 hours (about 800 USD). Unfortunately the bank shut down the card and it will take about 3 days for us to get a new one and be up and running again. We can receive orders in the meantime but we can not place them until about Saturday.

Also, two customer orders that had been placed were reversed by the bank and will have to be remade by us. Again all customer funds are safe and the two customers affected will be contacted by email shortly.

Just to be clear, we operate on a surplus and place orders as soon as they are received so there is more money in our accounts right now than we have liabilities and only those two customers are currently affected.

We will be up and running again hopefully by Saturday; I apologize to everyone for the inconvenience.

Don't be hesitant to make business with Pablo (Bitsumo.com)!!!! I was hesitant about it being located out of the USA, but I'm glad I tried it out! The customer support I received was phenomenal (20 minutes later ON A SUNDAY, I got a response, and we resolved an issue with my order!), and after I submitted my order (ON A SUNDAY MORNING, AGAIN!!!!), it was completed within half an hour! I was very impressed! Even when Bitspend was up (where I used to take my business), they would only process orders Monday-Friday, and I wouldn't get tracking information either! I'm glad I took the chance ($75 in Bitcoins for an Amazon giftcard.) Fee's are great ($70 order + $4.50 in fees), and speed was awesome, again, especially on Sunday! WILL CERTAINLY buy from again, even if Bitspend comes back online, because of how satisfied I am! :)

I am glad BitSumo is located outside the US, otherwise they would have been taken down as well as with all other US based Bitcoin Businesses, because of the dumb "Money Laundering" laws.

To be fair, although we are an offshore corporation, we bank through the U.S. and we pay U.S. taxes on U.S. sales, because it's the cheapest way to move money, we couldn't do business if we had to wire money to Bolivia all the time. I know there is some hesitance about this given the Bitspend fiasco, but I think that at this point, the most likely scenario with them is that they just took the money and ran and that the whole "The bank froze our money" thing was a scam. The U.S. has pretty tight financial protection laws for banking customers and I have a hard time believing that story. If it had been PayPal, yes, then it would be totally believable as they are not under banking laws, but I really don't believe it about a bank doing that in that way. If we look at other businesses who have had issues with banks, their accounts are closed, but the monies are always returned. In my opinion, Bitspend just ran for it.

Um, I vehemently disagree. From our own experience and given Bitspends size, I estimate they had several hundred thousand in orders at all times. I'm guesstimating here but that seems perfectly reasonable to me from what I have seen. Now whether that is "run away with it money" for everyone, it certainly is not, but it sure is for most people.

I'll end my speculation on Bitspend here, we really don't have a corporate position regarding that issue and i have only been expressing my personal opinions on that subject here.

I have been debating whether posting about this on the main Bitsumo thread would be appropriate but I have come to the conclusion that the more participation we can gain from the community the better and that the best partners will be the people who know us best, our customers.

How do you handle refunds?

If your order can not be placed within 24 hours we will issue a full refund via PayPal.

What if the item which we have ordered arrives but there is damage? How would you deal with issues like that?

We will help you do the refund to the best of our ability; frankly this has only happened twice so far.

We do expect you to take the lead however in approaching the store you purchased from, we will be happy to provide them with whatever documentation they need from us or give them a follow up call but since you know what is wrong better than we do, the onus is on you to take the initiative.

If the store offers to send you a new product before receiving the damaged part (very rare) we will need you to make a 100% refundable deposit for the full amount of the replacement product. We have already been scammed by people who got replacements but never sent the old one back :).

Just a little review here...

Just over a month ago I ordered a laptop via Bitsumo. Well, a friend did, using my coinz. It was roughly ~2000 USD. Everything went smoothly. There were a couple customization options on the laptop and Bitsumo got them correct.

I plan on using Bitsumo again in the future as I was satisfied with the customer service and the fast order-placing.

The shipping and billing address were switched in the original order... Pablo must have been up too late placing all those Xmas orders... but worst thing that could have happened is his card would have been declined and it would have been fixed. My friend noticed it on the invoice and Pablo fixed it within hours.

Hasn't been any replies for a while. Is this service still running and performing well?

We did run into a small inconvenience last week when one of our main credit cards was cloned, so until early next week when we receive our replacement card, we can only place PayPal orders. After we receive our new card we will be placing credit card orders as normal again :=).

Good to see you're still up, didn't get bitspend'd!

I maintain that what happened with Bitspend was a long con. We got whacked for 10k in fraud on our card but the bank reverses all fraudulent transactions and returns the money within 72 hours. The only reason we are not doing CC orders right now is not lack of funds but rather that we have to wait for the physical card to be issued.

Also, we do not use customer funds to place orders, we have a high daily operating reserve so even if the 10k were not returned to us, we would take a hit but we could return all customer monies.

Ordered a phone off ebay with bitsumo. I have to say, I'm impressed. He is extremely fast in forwarding me the information as soon as he gets it. Had no problems on my end.

I do wish, however, that the fee was a little lower. It starts to get expensive for higher priced items. Snapcard just lowered theirs to 1% this month, but I understand that bitsumo is newer and will take some time. Great service Pablo!

PayPal seems to haven taken issue with our business model so we will no longer be processing orders for items that require PayPal as the sole payment method; the biggest issue here being Ebay. Stores that have PayPal but allow us to pay via an alternative payment method, such as credit card through a different processor are not a problem.

Why can't you just use a new completely unrelated paypal account under the identity of a trusted employee or co-owner? Or something. No paypal is really a deal-breaker.

   Because from the way PayPal operates, they will eventually just freeze that account and all funds associated for as long as they feel like it. It's not worth the aggravation and will present net losses to our operating reserves.

It was a tough decision but it is the best way to safeguard our operating capital. As you know, we do not rely on customer funds to place orders; if we had an account frozen by PayPal with significant funds in it that would present us with the option of shutting down or operating with customer funds which is very risky and I suspect one of the core reason for the Bitspend fiasco.

It's a decision designed to both safeguard us and our customers.

What prevents you from using arbitrary funded credit cards through paypal, but as paypal guest (hence unassociated to an eBay or paypal account) to order all items that require paypal?

This question cuts more into operations matters than I am allowed to get into, but let me say that it's not that easy to get new cards on accounts. Prepaids do not exist in Bolivia (where we are based). We will be exploring all options to get over this issue.

JFYI only about 10% of our transactions are PayPal so this should not be a big deal for most customers.

I just have noticed that I've had success ordering on eBay as a PayPal guest, even if my eBay account is linked to the PayPal that is linked to the credit card that I used.

So, It seems to me that just logging out and using it as a guest, even if it's the same credit card, works just fine. It's just that you can't track items as good as you could otherwise. (you can't check the Purchased Items list since there's no account to look at)

Ordered some snowboarding stuff from amazon using Bitsumo, excellent service, would use again!

Only issue I had was: the first store I attempted to use wouldn't accept foreign payment (from bitsumo) to my UK address. Can't do much about that right now I guess...

just thought though, maybe the customer could phone the store in advance and give them a heads-up on the transaction, let them know the payments coming from a payment processor and items being delivered elsewhere?

Can't bitsumo just mark it as a gift and provide the ship to address?

Some foreign stores refuse to take U.S. payment methods and to ship those products anywhere other than the U.S., others take the payment method and freeze the orders for weeks on end so we have a list of stores where we know transactions will fail and go through internationally. We generally encourage customers abroad to stick with regional Amazon stores as those are never a problem but we have ordered stuff from a bunch of foreign stores for shipping abroad as well.

  We don't do reshipping, just FYI. As long as the store you are ordering from accepts U.S. credit cards and will ship to wherever you are, we are good to go.

A lot of foreign stores will not do this, so we are likely to tell you so in the pre-ordering process. If you want to ship something from the U.S. abroad it's best to sign up with a reshipping company.

Amazon and it's regional stores are always great and never present any problems :).

I just want to let everyone know we are placing a blanket ban on orders from Chinese sites. There has been a disproportionate amount of fraud going on there and it's caused me a lot of grief so I think it's just better to avoid these sites in future. Unfortunately, a couple of bad apples tend to ruin it for everyone.

It was a hard choice but there is an exorbitant amount of risk and fraud in transacting here and discrimating the good ones from the bad ones goes down to splitting hairs unfortunately.

Effective tomorrow Friday October 31st we will no longer be charging additional fees for products bought at stores outside the U.S. if prices are denominated in USD. That means that anyone ordering from amazon.co.uk, amazon.de, etc. will be charged only our regular fee of 2.5% + 3.5 USD.

There are some very rare exceptions to this rule like long pre-orders where Amazon does not provide a USD denominated price but by and large 99.999% of all purchases are covered by this new policy.

I just used Bitsumo last week for the first time and the experience was fantastic. Previously had been using snapcard, but they shutdown their buying service so I gave Bitsumo a try and couldn't have been happier. I wasn't sure at first since I couldn't find many reviews or info past August 2013 aside from this thread. Pablo was pleasant, very helpful and communicated what the service could and couldn't do in regards to credit card and shipping issues Bitsumo has to deal with from retailers. He recommended larger retailers, but I was still able to order from a smaller company. I received by order within a couple days. I ordered roughly $500 in gaming accessories and will be using Bitsumo again in the future.  :D
