The drop of unsold coins to paying contributors is underway! I hope this will bring y'all some smiles, because that's a lot of flying pigs :)

Regarding exchange listings, game plans, and profitability: please (care)fully read the OP before making things more complicated than they have to be. I know that it's nice when you get something for free and it turns out to be valuable, but like I said at the very beginning, this is a charitable project first, and potentially profitable second. The game plan is to be charitable - it wouldn't make much sense to spend considerable funds on getting listed on exchanges given the limited amount of funds raised by this project. And yes, as stated earlier, the symbol PIGGY was an unfortunate coincidence, but this is not something that gets in the way of our ultimate goal.

So think of the bigger picture. Even if Piggies turn out to not be worth very much as a cryptocurrency, at the end of this month, when I've presented the petting zoo with the results of this project (ETH, altcoins, and messages), the following things will still keep their value:

• People that have never met me or each other came together online and raised ~$400 worth of ETH to help support a local petting zoo.
• Between 6000 and 7000 addresses were airdropped Piggies to their wallets, and hopefully a smile airdropped to their face.
• Hopefully, the same 6000-7000 people (although, I'm pretty sure there are some duplicates in there...) were encouraged to think about petting zoos (maybe even learned what they are), animals, and charity - and how this fits into their lives.
• Hundreds of participants left a message for the pigs on the airdrop form, which, of course, will be shared with them.
• The community will also get an article out of it (currently writing...), so everyone can learn from and be enjoyed by the things I learned about human nature and the crypto community over the course of this project.

What are Piggies?
Piggies are your way to show your love for the local petting zoo (well, the one where I live anyway). You see, the local government cut its funding so it’s now only open three days a week. As a volunteer-run organization, they’re permanently strapped for cash to pay for food, medicine, and shelter for the animals. Holding or trading this coins allows you to show your love for all things related to pigs, goats, chicken, bunnies, birds – seriously, it’s downright adorable, and they’ve got all the space in the world, but need a solid cash basis to make sure any additional animals they put up are cared for well into the future.

How many Piggies are there?
There is a fixed total number of 2,800,000,000 Piggies. This is because that’s the approximate number of basepairs in the haploid porcine genome: 2800 Mb (megabases) (You can download it here (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genome?term=sus%20scrofa%20%5BOrganism%5D&cmd=DetailsSearch) if you like – by comparison, us humans come in at around 3,200 Mb). Rest assured that beyond this number, no additional Piggies will ever be made.

Is it secret? Is it safe?
Piggies are as secret and safe as any other ERC20 token living on the Ethereum blockchain. Except maybe eBTC, that has this nasty bug/feature (https://www.reddit.com/r/ethtrader/comments/74mrzk/do_not_buy_ebtc_tokens_the_contract_is_flawed/) that allows its owner to mint more of them at will.

Which wallets are supported?
Any wallet that supports ERC20 tokens is supported. This includes

• MyEtherWallet
• MetaMask
• Mist
• Parity
• Any other wallet that supports ERC20. You may have to enter the contract address, symbols, and decimals for it to work.

How can I get my hands on some Piggies?
There are two means by which to acquire Piggies:

1. The token sale
A maximum of 1,900 MegaPiggies (that’s 1,900,000,000 Piggies) will be sold in the token sale at a rate of 20,000,000 Piggies for each 1 ETH contributed. There is no minimum contribution amount, so if you like, you can also contribute 0.001 ETH and receive 20,000 Piggies (and a smile on your face).

2. The airdrop
Of course, we sympathize with those of you who are strapped for cash, but still like to show that they care. Therefore, we’re distributing 30% of the total number of tokens in an airdrop. That’s 840 MegaPiggies.

To participate, go to the website (http://piggies-coin.org/) and leave your ETH address, and a personal message for our friends at the petting zoo.

Every participant in the token sale is automatically also gets a share of the airdrop, ensuring they’ll always get more Piggies than non-paying supporters.

The airdrop is designed to accommodate 5,000 crypto-petting-zoo-enthusiasts. We'll start distributing the first tokens after 1000 people register for the airdrop. Depending on how soon this is, we might adjust the number of tokens subsequent participants receive to make sure everybody gets some. Rest assured that paying contributors get the maximum amount of airdroppable Piggies (= 840M / 5000 = 168 KiloPiggies), irrespective of when they join.

The remaining 60 MegaPiggies, as well as 50% of any Piggies that are not sold in the token sale, will be donated to the petting zoo to do with as they please. The other 50% of unsold Piggies will be distributed to paying contributors in the token sale, proportional to their contribution.

When will the token sale end?
The token sale will end on November 30th.

What is the purpose of the token?
Holding or trading Piggies is a means of showing you care about charitable things like petting zoos. Also, it is tradeable on EtherDelta (link (https://etherdelta.com/#0xc6b1953ab35f05db745dadd5ce411d75758a7898-ETH)), so you can make a neat profit if you like.

(Technically, you could burn Piggies by sending them to 0x0, but that would just be wrong and I’d strongly advise against it)

But… this concept is never going to work!
Yes, it is. Here’s why. Remember all these coins like eXRN, eBTC, and basically every other ERC20 (or Waves) token that was airdropped/ICO’ed recently? There is no reason for most of these coins to be worth anything.

However, what happens is that once some tokens are sold and the airdrop takes place, people start trading them. The fact that some of these tokens were paid for in the first place (in a token sale) means they are worth something to someone, and thus an opportunity for trading arises. People buy them in hopes of an increase in value, i.e. to sell them at a profit later on. Some people sell their tokens for Ether, some people trade them at a profit, and some people hold on to their tokens hoping they’ll be worth more in the future. The latter category end up being really rich in the future, or holding the bag – but that’s the gamble they take.

There is no reason to believe that Piggies should be any different - and therefore, yes, this will work. But even if it is different, nobody is left holding the bag in the case of Piggies, because the whole point was to support a good cause. Everybody walks away with a smile on their face.

What will the proceeds of the token sale go towards?
All proceeds of the token sale, minus expenses, will go straight towards the petting zoo. They’ll get a choice between ETH and fiat.
The only expenses that will be subtracted from the total donation are gas costs incurred.

How do I know you’ll give it all to charity?
The short answer is, you don’t. I could be a fraudster and run off with your money. But consider the following.

• If I would do that, I’d be an extremely despicable person (Stealing from charity? Bah!).
• If I wanted to run off with your money, I would have made up a much more business-like story to persuade you to invest in a token sale + airdrop. Or even a less business-like story, like we see here so often.
  

Also, note that I’ve put significant amounts of my own time and money into this project already. There is a website, a smart contract deployed, and I’ve made the first donation myself as a regular token sale participant - not to mention the time I needed to learn how to do all this. This demonstrates that I really believe there are no losers in this project.

What does the roadmap look like? What are the next steps?
So here’s the deal. Once we’ve raised >10 Ether or it’s November 30th (whichever occurs first), I’ll personally head over to the petting zoo, and take a picture with happy pigs/goats/etc. as I’ll hand over the money.

Also, as part of our roadmap, an artist friend of mine who owes me one for hosting her website for free for many years running will paint her crypto-inspired version of a Piggy-bank, and we will frame that and a selection of the wonderful messages that you post in the airdrop form and token sale. Your messages will be there for all to see, and I’ll post photographic evidence with bunnies.

The potential of using tokens for crowdfunding things of this nature it's awesome! Companies are not the only ones that can emit a token as a digital stock. People that already have kickstaters for whatever reason, could issue tokens.

If you add Piggies to MyEtherWallet, you can specify the ticker symbol yourself, and are free to choose whatever you like. I'll still work, as long as you get the contract address right :)

As for listing on exchanges, unless this becomes a grand success on EtherDelta (where it's already trading!), it's unlikely it will be listed elsewhere. So if you want to help increase buzz, trade this on EtherDelta :)

However, it looks like we're going to overshoot 5000 participants, so while the early birds (and paying contributors!) get 168K, later joiners might get a bit less to ensure everybody gets some.

Ha, I would have been somewhat interested in this project if it at least cared to provide some proofs of charity. So basically we are being asked to donate for adorable animals and we don't even get to know if donations are being made or not. What a waste. You could have at least made your story more believable.

Tell ya what, if the weather doesn't suck too much I'm heading over there and will take a picture with the piggies from the website, plus a BCT-specific message on a sheet of paper. :)

I fell in love with your cause mates! Recently there are a few people around the world who cares about the well being of the animals, not that I am vegetarian to say things like that. People lost sight of the beautiful creatures that we have on earth and started to forget their values to our lives. Going to the zoo gives our children happiness and even ourselves less worries and less stress for us to work properly. The petting zoo has three ways to benefit from Piggies-tokens:

• Directly, from contributions made in exchange for tokens (a.k.a. token sale)
• Indirectly, because 50% of unsold tokens plus 60M tokens go to the zoo (they can sell them for eth, if they're in enough demand)
• Indirectly, because having many token holders/traders (e.g. by having an airdrop) helps raise awareness for the options above

In addition to the above, the simple fact that people read about Piggies and think about the fate of animals or local petting zoos, even if they choose not to participate in the airdrop or token sale, will be a nice benefit of this project. I'll post some of the lovely message I've received via the airdrop form at a later point in time :)

I honestly like the purpose of this project, it's nice that you are doing this to help your local petting zoo but are you sure you're in the right place though? I think you'll get more supporters if you put up a youtube video or a facebook page and start a kickstarter or a patron. I honestly support this project because this cause is so close to home but your roadmap is just too short, if you want this token to get more popular and get more hype then you should continue developing this token, you should add more to your roadmap, probably add more exchanges and let this project go bigger. Maybe if this works out then you can help more petting zoos.

This has been pointed out, and it's a mistake on my part. I apologize. There is indeed another project that claimed PIGGY as its symbol a long time ago. Actually, it looks quite nice too.
So let's make a couple of things clear here:

• We're not the same project. This was a coincidence that I should have prevented.
• The only listing we have at the moment is on EtherDelta (working on making that one more official).
• EtherDelta uses Piggies as our symbol anyway.
• I will update the OP and website to call our token Piggies. Hopefully this will avoid confusion in the short term.

Valid point. And the short answer is, I'm not sure of anything. :) Like the concept of cryptocurrencies itself, this project is an experiment.
To illustrate how this came to be, questions I asked myself before starting included the following:
Would I raise more money in some other way? Maybe. But all these options aren't mutually exclusive.
Does the project need a longer, more intricate roadmap? Well, I could make one up if I wanted to go for a quick profit, like so many other airdropped coins do... but like almost all of these other coins I'd just fail to deliver on my 2020 goals and you'd all know it from the start... Instead I chose to be honest here, and set a small goal, upon which we can build if this becomes a greater success than anticipated.
Would I learn as much if I went non-crypto? Doubtful. Would I have as much fun, or make as many people stop and think? Even more doubtful.

Really, it's been a wonderful ride so far reading all the wonderful messages complete strangers on the internet send to my favorite petting zoo animals. I'll post a selection here soon! (but first, my day job calls...)

If you read the previous posts then you'll know that the dev stated that the coin named "PIGGY" is different from this one cause the coin "PIGGY" is not an eth token while this one is an eth token. Indeed, if it shows up in an Ethereum-based wallet, it's this Piggies (i.e. an ERC20 token), not the Piggycoin from CMC.
By the way, I have great respect for the work done by the (other) Piggycoin team, now that I'm aware of them. It seems that they weren't too commercially successful, but they've put in quite some effort to make blockchain an attractive concept for kids. I hope a similar concept takes off one day.

Some more short updates from the Piggies front:

• The airdrop is still active and, as promised, open until the airdroppable coins run out.
• The airdrop form now features a check whether the entered Ethereum address is the same as what's in the Bitcointalk location. Fortunately, this seems to be keeping the spammers at bay for now. If you can't seem to get it to work, feel free to reach out and I'll be happy to give some pointers.
• Next step is to properly register the token with EtherDelta.
• The project got some free airtime at my workplace, which may help feed some buzz around this project. After all, we all know piggies love attention.
• MaryAngela_Fantocci (and others), if you have questions about me personally, please don't hesitate to send me a direct message. As stated earlier, since my kid goes to this particular petting zoo, I try to keep this kind of stuff off the general, eternal internet.

Probably a huge amount of supply makes the price of this coin very cheap. This is further exacerbated by people who can not hold these hard coins and sell them cheaply. we'll see what happens next.

Just for those lazy people out there, this is taken from the Piggies Web page-

Piggies are your way to show your love for the local petting zoo (well, the one where I live anyway). You see, the local government cut its funding so it’s now only open three days a week. As a volunteer-run organization, they’re permanently strapped for cash to pay for food, medicine, and shelter for the animals. Holding or trading this coins allows you to show your love for all things related to pigs, goats, chicken, bunnies, birds – seriously, it’s downright adorable, and they’ve got all the space in the world, but need a solid cash basis to make sure any additional animals they put up are cared for well into the future.

You have, of course, a very good cause and I wholeheartedly support them, but also agree that perhaps this playful name will scare away those who want to invest.

I love this project but somehow I don't think the dev really wants to push it further, it's over a month now and it hasn't even be listed officially on ED except through a direct link.

Quick update: I just closed the airdrop form.

I think the dev made a mistake when choose the short name PIGGY on contract, it should choose Piggies as name if that was possible, same as on OP title. Anyway i'm holding airdrop.

Regarding exchange listings, game plans, and profitability: please (care)fully read the OP before making things more complicated than they have to be. I know that it's nice when you get something for free and it turns out to be valuable, but like I said at the very beginning, this is a charitable project first, and potentially profitable second. The game plan is to be charitable - it wouldn't make much sense to spend considerable funds on getting listed on exchanges given the limited amount of funds raised by this project. And yes, as stated earlier, the symbol PIGGY was an unfortunate coincidence, but this is not something that gets in the way of our ultimate goal.

So think of the bigger picture. Even if Piggies turn out to not be worth very much as a cryptocurrency, at the end of this month, when I've presented the petting zoo with the results of this project (ETH, altcoins, and messages), the following things will still keep their value:

• People that have never met me or each other came together online and raised ~$400 worth of ETH to help support a local petting zoo.
• Between 6000 and 7000 addresses were airdropped Piggies to their wallets, and hopefully a smile airdropped to their face.
• Hopefully, the same 6000-7000 people (although, I'm pretty sure there are some duplicates in there...) were encouraged to think about petting zoos (maybe even learned what they are), animals, and charity - and how this fits into their lives.
• Hundreds of participants left a message for the pigs on the airdrop form, which, of course, will be shared with them.

I'm currently printing them one of these (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:241805) (they work with any string, not just BTC addresses :)), and will present it with the offer to help them cash it out at a time of their choosing.

I'll also explain that it's very possible to cash out just a part of it, should they have an urgent need of cash at some point, and to leave the rest in ETH to grow.

Maybe dev has his own reason for that. Now the problem is the price of this coin has not increased since the first time this coin is distributed. dev should be as quick as doing something or this coin is forever in my wallet.

If you really want to get rid of them send them to 0x0 and burn them. It will get them off of your account's token list.

I expect to be able to finish up the "gift package" for the petting zoo this weekend, and go out to give it to them in the following week.

Of course I could run over to them right now and give 'em the ETH, but I promised the community I'd also give the animals a compilation of the nice messages you guys sent them, and I intend to keep my word. :)

Items in gift package (when finished):

• 3D print of the donation address and corresponding private key. Carefully wrapped so as not to inadvertently reveal the private key.
• A sheet of instructions and explanation of what ETH is and what to do with the keys in case they (a) choose to cash out or (b) choose to keep them and see what the future holds :) (I'll also offer to go through the motions of cashing out for them, if they want me to)
• A picture frame containing a brief explanation of the project and its results, as well as a selection of your messages to the animals, so visitors can read about cryptos and about how strangers on the internet donated to their favorite piggies :)

It seems to be coming soon. no further information of this project after distribution. Not to mention the price of PIGGY is very cheap in the market seems to make people lazy to work here.

This weekend, I went over to the petting zoo and gave them our "care package", containing private key, frame with quotes, and explanation on how to use ETH. They were a bit overwhelmed and very grateful.

I received PIGGY coin from an airdrop last year and it's on MEW now but i can't transfer it to crypto exchange because the address they are giving me to where i send it is not an ERC-20 address. It looks like a hard wallet address.

Anyone of you here who received the airdrop too? How did you trade it?

This was not a project meant to be continously developed.

It's served it's purpose, and it's dead.

It will always be remember for those who partook, but it is dead.

It was more about doing something good, rather than making profit. They achieved that goal. Now it's time to move on I think.

piggy looks like a dead coin now. piggy still sitting sweet on my wallet. After so long I waited but until now there is no information where I can do the exchange for piggy.

The amount of supply that so much make piggy prices very cheap. We can see from the amount of piggy obtained by each participant. I think the team should do something about it.

I am also looking for an answer to that question and until now I have not found it yet. I do not know which piggies are listed on the exchange. We can only hope piggies are immediately listed on the exchange.

I think dev should immediately give an official statement to all participants on exchange matters for piggies. Because many participants want to get an answer to that question. thank you

Etherdelta. I would not expect too much from the project now though, it was for a charitable cause rather than a coin aimed to make a profit for us. The dev will not be active on this in any way.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect any further development on this project. It was more of a social experiment and charity drive. The tokens can be traded on Etherdelta, but it may cost you more in ETH to trade them than you'd make from selling them.
