Worth noting these are the cases with the inner foam ring (which I prefer).

I received an email from casascius this morning.  He said the coins are being put together and should be shipped soon.

Also people have been saying the coins are 30mm?? Are the air tites 39mm the wrong ones?

I ordered the suggested ones that have the white foam insert ring.  That's probably where the other 9mm comes from.  If there are any issues, I'll work to resolve them.  :)

FWIW - i think the 30mm suggestion is incorrect and have notified the poster (looks to me like they have mixed up the case recommendations for the half and full ounce coins.  Unless the dimensions listed on Casascius own site are wrong, the 1oz coins have a 39mm diameter.

Whatever needs to happen, I'll do.  I want the right capsule too.  :)

Yeah I didn't think it was going to take this long. Although it looks like a lot of people are getting their orders.

No new updates on my end.  Hope we get something soon.

If the 2nd order gets at least 10 coins preordered let me know. I'll take one if so. I don't want to have to pay though and wait a month before we even order which is why I will wait until this gets closer to filling.

I didn't notice any particular format.  I wasn't exactly looking for a pattern though.

Restrictive USPS policies is making it impossible for me to ship these things overseas (I jumped through all their hoops and then they told me silver is banned from being shipped to most countries, except Finland apparently).  I don't want to lie to USPS in order to ship these.  For that reason, please post your refund address if you are an international buyer, and I will refund you.

I'm closing this group buy because the INT orders are just enough product to fill the existing US orders.  All remaining packages will be shipped tomorrow and should be received by Saturday.  Thank you.

How does Casascius ship these overseas?

I signed up to your group buy because you personally invited me to it, I subsequently turned down other group buy offers as a result of being included in yours.  Now first batch coins are no longer available.

I also paid a premium well in excess of the coin list price (including shipping), and more than non-international buyers, purely to compensate you for the hassle of co-ordinating shipping.

Please DO NOT reallocate the coins you are holding on my behalf to anyone else - if necessary I will arrange for a US delivery address for you to send to, but to simply tell me the deal is off because you don't want to waste any more time is a pretty big let down.

I had no other choice when it came to the overseas delivery.  I tried different USPS offices, different packaging, etc...  They showed me in their computer where it said that coins and bullion were banned from being shipped to your country.  I don't know if I just happened to get extremely unlucky and got multiple idiots at multiple offices or what.  If you can arrange for a US shipping address, I would be happy to refund the additional shipping and ship your coins to you.  I just can't send them to your country from here for whatever reason.  I exhausted every legal option I had.

I'll stop accepting future international orders and leave the group buy open until it's filled.

How many more do you need to complete it?

I anticipate funding them this weekend. There is one stuck in customs in Spain I anticipate I will part fund 0.05 btc per coin now and fund the rest on confirmed receipt.

What does everyone think of the defcon vulnerability for casascius coins? I find it mostly irrelevant; but I would be a bit worried if we chose not to discuss it here since this is the targeted scenario. I have complete faith in mike and og, as well as a realization that someone would need physical access to the casascius coin to remove the sticker. This is pretty hard to accomplish if they're in my posession and stored in an airtight container.

Well another thing to consider with the silver 1btc is that they had to laser the sticker to fit onto the coin...I think casascius may have sent him one to test the vulnerability of that. We may have some added security but who knows.

I'm sticking to US only for now. Either my post office is the strictest in the country or everyone is lying about the contents to ship silver to the UK.

My most stress free way to send a single coin anywhere in the world is to put it in a CD mailer with a sub-envelope in the middle, with staples, so it stays in the center.

I have never been told of one being opened or assessed customs, as I presume it flows with letter mail.  It doesn't look interesting.  If you are a customs agent looking for valuable items to assess tax on, where are you going to spend your time, the boxes and items that have been insured or couriered or registered, or are you going to fish through and rip open (and retape) hundreds of thousands of pieces of untracked regular letter mail in case it contains a small valuable object?

Of course, the flip side is if the buyer says he never got it, he could be lying, and it's untracked, so you don't know.  However the conscientious buyer ought to prefer getting it as letter mail at his own risk, since his "expected value" from possibly not paying VAT is probably greater than the negative expected value of the risk of loss.

I used to ship silver this way all the time without any issues.  However, since I was reselling your products I wanted them to be tracked and I wanted to be honest about the contents.  Telling USPS you're shipping silver overseas is like trying to get through airport security with a bottle of water...

I can sympathise with ognasty here, in my case I specifically requested tracked shipping as i knew the coins i ordered were likely to be funded prior to arrival and with 5 coins the risk was a little higher, I just assumed there would be no problem with postal regulations, I guess neither of us anticipated the hassle involved.  

Mike, my particular case could have been de-risked if you had some sort of mechanism for allowing the target recipient of a new coin to securely trigger (or more specifically, delay) initial funding on a per coin basis.  Even if the ability was limited to the original purchasser in group buys such as this, the resuced risk and cost of transport would probably help to boost overseas demand.

Could your 2/3 party escrow model could be re-purposed to enable this sort of thing?

I haven't heard anything since I placed the order.

It is going to take me a bit to get it out.

The last batch of 1 btc blanks I received, I didn't like them. They have a ridge on one side that makes it so a stack of them doesn't stand up straight.  I am expecting some new ones next week and will be scrapping these ones. Since this is a new one-off problem I imagine it can be avoided now that I have pointed it out.
