Title: What is your advice: When should I cash out?
Post by: Enjel on December 08, 2017, 07:01:43 PM
I have been investing in a bunch of different coins for a while now, mainly BTC, ETH, LTC, and some other lesser-known coins. I have a lot of different coins in my portfolio to stabilize/reduce risk.

I love the gains that these coins provide. I never panic-sell, and always hodl and buy low. That has been my simple strategy.

However, I have a problem - how do I train myself to know when to cash out?

For instance, last night the BTC price was high (18K), and ETH/LTC price were low.

I could have cashed out then, and invested in ETH/LTC, which are seeing a nice pump now.

How do you know when to cash out??

Right now the only time I cash out is when I need to money to buy a gift or something.

Mostly, you can do a safe cashout when the price change is not different for a week or atleast a day. you can't always try to cashout at a high price that produces risk as transaction cost and waiting time is very high at that time.

The the best to time to cash out is anytime. Just make sure that you will at least save some of it and do not cash-out all of your coins. You should always aim for profit and keep you capital inside the platform. The Bitcoin is really hard to predict so you should be tricky to take the advantage. Keep at least 10% of your investments inside of the platform so that, you still have the last card.  ;)

I am with your recommendation.
More fiat could be made in a few months, 2 gifts could be purchased with the amount you'd spend today.

Basically, you can't really know when the time is right. I sold at $11.600, fast forward two days later, the price was at $15.000's. I don't think you can actually train yourself to know when to exchange and withdraw, it's something that all of us have faced many times, just be patient and keep holding for as long as you can resist.

If you look at price dynamics recently on bitcoin, you can see that bitcoin has been growing very fast over the past few days and from about 9,000 has reached 17,000 dollars. Yesterday, it was quite a strong decline to $ 15,453, now its rate is 16,112 dollars. That is, it can be assumed that while its some volatility manifests itself, and not a fall in the rate. Therefore, you need to watch him for a while. As soon as bitcoin finds a steady downward trend, then, in my opinion, it is also worth temporarily selling some surpluses for your needs.

OP, this is the magical question of all financial markets--when do you sell?  And there's no one who can tell you with a straight face exactly when you should, because no one can see the future.  If you're in the black right now, which you probably are, then now is probably a great time to take a profit.  There's nothing wrong with that, IMO.  You could hodl forever, but what happens if the market crashes back down to $3000 overnight?  You'd be fucked!  And that could happen, because the price right now is absolutely insane in my opinion.  It's gone up too high, too fast.

Myself, I bought a nice pair of Bose headphones on Newegg the other day, and bitcoin paid for those.  I've got no problem spending some of my btc while the price is up in the nosebleed section.  Makes sense, doesn't it?

Right now the only time I cash out is when I need to money to buy a gift or something.

In my opinion, I think you have it figured out already. You should cash out whenever you need to buy something and hodl the rest. What is the point of knowing that you have some spare cash and not be able to spend it when you really need to?

It,s all depend on the amount in which you invested,if there have been some profit on your investment it will not be wrong you sell, do not aim at much profit on your investment.

Well, you are on track when you cash out when there is a need for money. However, if you are expecting gains from the cashing out as compared to that of hodling the same then do not forget to consider the possible growth of the Bitcoin and the other option in which you are cashing out the same eg: ETH, FIAT etc. I would say, study the returns on investment factor deeply and compare it in both the options.

It seems that you already knew when to cash out, it is when you need money to buy something or a gift. For me, there is no actually right time on that because as you really need to spend it and I think you deserve to have what you wanted. Just don't take all it out because it is better if you still left some of your coins as your investment. In terms of trading, don't be greedy; if you think you have enough profits, be contented.

The value of bitcon now is become more powerful and i think bitcoin will increase more and more and i dont think if bitcoin goes down to$2000 so if you want to cash out think before you cash out because its more good to hold it.

You're not really into Bitcoin or cryptocurrency, huh?

Cashing out and using your bitcoin to buy things are different things. If you're waiting for "the right price" to get out of Bitcoin, you should just get out now. We don't need people that are solely in this for the quick dollar return. We need people that believe in Bitcoin, the fundamental role it plays in the world, and the success that is just starting to float its direction.

You should be treating Bitcoin as the place to keep your wealth and sell it for spending only.

How many of you are here just for a quick Bitcoin return and who's into Bitcoin?

Thank!

I agree with masterbt. You should be highly aware of the circumstance before cashing out your Bitcoins. I guess most people here would say that you should make the most out of the high Bitcoin rate and cash out during these times, however you should take note of the other factors as well as your actions that may lead to an unfavorable result. Bitcoin may be volatile but you should know its current state and the progression it is bound to take . You should also be aware of the consequences of cashing out during the glorious moment of Bitcoin before doing so.

Cash out for the following reasons:
1) You need the money for something important or for retirement.
2) You want to cash it out and put it into something more conservative.
3) You are trading and are selling high to buy back low.
4) You think the price will drop due to bad news, a pump, a potential fork, etc.
If you hold long term your investment will probably make money, but if any of the above apply to you, then you may need to sell.

Well what I can say is that if you think you had earn good enough you can sell your bitcoin partially for you to be able to enjoy the profit that your investment earned. Hold the remaining because of the high rate possibility that will happen in the next coming months.

do the sure thing always then try also even you need to take the risk like sell some of your coins,cash-out some of your earnings then do invest again so atleast if any of your coins not go well and bitcoin not go well also you have already profit because you cash-out some of your money and to think more that's wise strategy to do for assurance or safety move here in bitcoin,I think security in money is the best then try to invest again that you can afford to lose like repeat what you do to have profit here in bitcoin and a good think or do wise again

How do you know when to cash out??
That's the bad news that nobody is talking about.  You never cash out.  You have to hold forever.  Bitcoin just keeps going up, and up, and up.  That is because it is superior to fiat currency.  Your government will try to fuck you forever.  So, Bitcoin is never going to be worse than your lousy country's money.  Your net worth just keeps going up until the day you die if you hold bitcoin.

Cash out if:
1) You want to intentionally lose money
2) You wish to remain a poverty victim for the rest of your life
3) You already have 47 Lambos and don't want another one.

Just to be clear, the only reason I would "cash out" is to sell high, and then buy low again.

What I was asking was not "when do I abandon my coins forever" but rather "how do I make good calls on the price"?

I gave an example in my OP, where if I had exchanged Bitcoin for ETH/LTC, I would have made a big profit, and then later maybe exchange back, etc.

Anyways, thanks for the responses.

I think you should cash out when the purpose for which you invested have been fulfilled means the time when you are getting the amount of profit you wanted to earn from your investments ,at that time you should cash out.You can also cash out when your in the need of money.

The best time to cash out is when you really need money to buy something that worth and to invest some property such as house and lot, farms, itc....

That is a vague question and greatly depends on what you think is "profit". For me, I bought at $4400 and I'd gladly take profits if the coin hits $20k a piece.  Though I'm already in big profit, as of now I'm trying to stop myself from cashing out since there is still a huge room for any profits to be made before the year ends. Still got 2 weeks+ on the calendar for something to happen.

For me, it is better to hold rather than risk trading. Although it gives you much profit but the difference in price when you buy and sell bitcoin might lose you some of your profit. But it's up to you. Trust your trading skills.

Taking anyone advice wont work , when ever you feel that what profit you are getting is enough that is the correct time to cash out, Bitcoin reached 17k+ and now it is down to 14800 price, so profit booking time started and next uptrend is going to happen.

It’s a right time to sell out all your bitcoins because if you check the price of bitcoin its very high and may be in next week its price go more high then ever so you can sell it in next week also but a lot of people start selling in this week I also sold some bitcoins this week and I got a very good profit and some of bitcoin I left for next week but its confirm that this year the price of bitcoin is very high then ever so this is a right time to sell bitcoin.

Sell your Bitcoins or anything you have at your own risk. After you are done reading all of the replies here, you are still the one that will make the decision in the end. You should look at the movement of the price of Bitcoin at the market. See for yourself. Analyze it very well. If you think it has a potential to grow bigger, then you must hold it for a longer time. But if you think its price will be dumped so hard and it will take time to come back at the high price again, then you must sell it immediately.

You need to set goal price for each of the coins you are holding when price reached your goal price then you just cash out from your investment, because the price is always going to increase so you need to decide when and how much profit you want. But in my view it is not the right time to sell bitcoin because the price will increase more in the coming days so I decided to hold my bitcoins until 2020.
Don't change your coins too often when it faces the price bumps because it will face price fall after the price increase so it is better to stick to one coin for certain period of time until you can earn good profit from it.

It's hard to predict because of the price volatility, but you can safely cash out when the price is stable
But if you want to play safe, just cash out whenever you need fiat and just hold your btc if you dont need it because the price will rise eventually in the future

Its very difficult to find that answer and that makes this trading game more interesting. To avoid loss, you should not blindly follow the price rise of a coin so that if it gets dumped suddenly, then you would not be able to even place the sell order and you would have to sell at very low price at last.

So,just fix a profit target of 5 or 10 or 15% and complete the trade after reaching that price. Also, when you know confirmly that your coin price is going to fall, then you could sell it and cash out and re invest again at its down price.By this way,you could make huge profits.

For me the best time to cash out is when you need the money or if you have something to use it because as the price of bitcoin continue appreciating converting it into fiat when you don't need it will cause regret on your part especially at this moment where appreciation is really amazing but if you want to be sure and don't want taking risk you can still convert whenever you wish then transfer it to your bank account.

This is why it's always important to set targets for yourself. I think I speak for a lot of holders like myself who have time targets rather than price. For me this means a really long term view that will only require evaluation at 2020, and very likely beyond that. Price movements won't matter in that case.

However, like any thing you invest in, the first financial target should be to break even. Keep track of the investments you made initially. And if you can already cash oit to recoup that outlay then do so. Remember to also account for time invested. Cash out enough to make that time worthwhile.

Do this and you ensure you are not in loss, and that you can also enjoy seeing some fruit of your labours. So even in a worst case scenario if Bitcoin fails, you will at least have had not "lost" everything, and you come out with the learnings and experience.

Try and have fun too, that's important.

I'm by no means an expert or have the right to call myself a professional trader or speculator in any way but I'll tell what I do.
Right now, the market is actually kinda easy to read and deal with if you take a closer look at what happens and try to benefit from it.

In the past few weeks, bitcoin got a lot of attention which is obviously why it went up so much in price. When the big boss (aka btc) starts going up, it goes up dramatically. So, literally everyone gives up their coins and buys into btc. Let's say you did that and you bought at a low price (13.5k which happened yesterday). What do you now ?

You hold on to btc as it goes up. And it will start going up and down (but the major trend will be an increase). Once it stops and stabilizes for some time (12-24 hours) that's the time you start scouting for altcoins to buy. As everyone is probably still selling their alts for cheap.

When the price gets stable, people think that this ride is over so they start selling and you see the price go down again and alts going up. They'll keep going up until btc decides to move up again. You don't wait until that happens. Once you made an appropriate profit from your alts you quit (I'd say at a 10% profit or less).

So this way you earn from btc and alts at the same time.

No one can predict the future except to those who have the power to predict the future but most of us can't so we can't tell when someone should cashed out his or her cryptocurrency. We need to take risks when buying and selling cryptocurrencies because there can be a time that we cashed out bitcoin in a higher price but it became higher on tomorrow or the other they, it can give us regrets. It happened to me last time but I have accepted what happen because it was the reality. We need to take all the risks and accept what we have done. Even we cashed out our coins in a lower value, we need to accept it. For me, the better way to earnmore is to divide the coins for selling and for holding so there will be no hard regrets.

What you are referring to is call SMART MOVE. I think this way, because when to enter and when to exit is a hard decision to make.
But it is not an easy matter for all because a "hard decision" is the concern here. Maybe some people have this ability and they are the ones who are successful.

As an example, I wanted to exchange some btc for western union and at that moment the rate was around $16500.
I thought at that time to make the trade tomorrow when price will hit $17000. But when tomorrow came the price dropped to around $13500.
So now what you will call me, stupid? Currently I am waiting for another pump for btc, and my target is still $17000. Is it a SMART MOVE? I don't know actually.

As of your case, you made this post because ETH and LTC in pumping. But what if it is not pumping today, will you still posted here?
See, this is the SMART MOVE or HARD DECISION.

If you had sold btc yesterday and bought eth and ltc than today you could be making a good profit.

Practice on SMART MOVE, and try to take fast decision.

Good Luck.

edit: A good strategy helps a lot for smart moves imo. Lets say you will take 5-10% profit from each trade opened. No matter if the price goes up later then your sale price. Just don't regret. Take the profit and find another opportunity.

Yes, you should know how much profit do you want to get. You must have list of evey months profit if you sell it on the current price. You should have always trial and error in that part. Trial is your profit you can earn while error is your loses. We always come up with that situation for have a better preparation in the future.

NO one can advise you when you should cash out it is totally up to you when you want to sell. It is you who has to decide when will it be profitable for you to sell your bitcoins. One thing that can be suggested is just keeping in mind, only sell when you think you are making a profit and just don't sell anytime you feel that won't be a smart move.

I admire your entire approach to managing your crypto investments. In particular, cashing out only in times of real need is a very great attitude you can really be proud of. I think you should focus less on the rise and fall of your coins' market. It is, after all, very basic that such coins will experience high and low points in their valuation. In the end, their entire worth is still rising in general. So just do your holding thing but couple it out with constant following of your coins' updates and news.

OP if you don't need money then just hold it and let it grow but if you want to secure your investment I suggest you to convert at least 25% of your coins to fit and save it in bank. We really regret when we cash out and suddenly it pumps but this is part of the game, however, it's still a win win situation.

When it reaches $17,000, I guess. But this suggestion is for those who are actually trading against the fiat price of bitcoins. If you want to earn without the huge risk, then just hold on to it. I do believe that $17,000 is not even close to what bitcoins will be in the near future. Probably bitcoins could even reach $20,000 before year's end and that's a bit far from today. We only need another $3,000+ to get there, and I do think it is quite possible.

i think , the time to cash out if you really need that money or urgent situation and cash out as small as possible , so you have more capital on your exchanger
and more capital more profit
i think that :D

If cash out and buy back, i think is depend on your strategy.
For me i better to buy low and sell it in small profit and buy back again.

Right. However, anything is possible right now. I am sure we should expect a lot happening in some few days that even a whole lot of us may not expect. Right now, I really want to believe consolidation is over and if we may go test another top soon once it even past that $17k stage again. My own advice is for the OP to understand that every decision should be in his hands and as long as he understands what he is doing, he should be ready to accept whatever the outcome is, whether right or wrong.

If I were you, I will cash out my money if there's an emergency case but because the bitcoin value is getting high every day then I will probably saved it for now or invest it to double my money. And if you are not into money that much then it's fine if you withdraw it anytime you want.

sell your Bitcoins or anything you have at your own particular hazard. After you are finished perusing the greater part of the answers here, you are as yet the one that will settle on the choice at last. You should take a gander at the development of the cost of Bitcoin at the market. See with your own eyes. Dissect it extremely well. In the event that you think it can possibly develop greater, at that point you should hold it for a more drawn out time. In any case, on the off chance that you figure its cost will be dumped so hard and it will require investment to return at the high cost once more, at that point you should offer it quickly.

Thank you everyone the responses. There is a lot of good information here. You are right - this is the fundamental question of traders, and no one can answer it or else they could make unlimited money. In the end it is an individual decision, and there are several decent strategies of when to sell+reinvest.

I think you're doing it right for now, cashing in when you need to.
Otherwise if you're interested in cashing at high and investing in others that are low, you should sell when the price is stable at a higher value and buy when it is stable at a lower value.

You can cash out anytime you wanted to it is depends to you. But for me as long as the value are growing you should still hold that particular coins because that can give you extra profits. But if you need money then cash out but never cash it  all out in one sitting because that will leave you no investment for the future. I advise that you should always cash out ehrn the value rises because that is a great opportunity me personally i always cash all my money when that particular coin pumps then i will save my money into another account i always diversify to some security purposes.

Well, believe me, there's no such methods to get a certain prediction. At that time when Bitcoin was in 18K, you didn't know whether Bitcoin will fall/retrace or keep pushing up to above $20,000. Right? If your simple strategy is already making you money, keep doing it. Don't be greedy and telling yourself "If I ... I could have ... ". It's a useless thought that will only waste your energy. Your strategy is already good IMO. Buy everything that seems too low or underpriced. The ETH dump to 0.022 was quite crazy though so I managed to buy some, but still I didn't catch that LTC train.

Never go all out from Bitcoin. That's the most profitable advice :D Just like you, I personally never sold Bitcoin more than I need to. Even though I'm a lot richer than I used to be, my lifestyle didn't change a lot. Try to hold as many as you can, the future of Bitcoin will be so exciting.

Not these days, I suppose. Wait a bit for stabilization of Bitcoin and altcoins. I would better wait for Ethereum Classic fork also - the event can affect the alts' prices as well. However, it is always hard to predict the right time of cash out.

Honestly, I really would not even bother.
In this case, I even consider charts as an enemy because they might get you confused. Even as a trader, you cannot always get it right. The market is so unpredictable and anything can just happen, so it is a moment to always be ready for.

If the OP knows he is not on the charts to monitor activities and base his decisions on that, which in that form, he should know he is trading, then he should know that anything after then, most especially without a strategy is going to get him taking a huge fall.

Yes, obviously. Everyone knows what they look for in a trade and as long as you know what you are doing, then there is no need asking for opinions. BTC market is one market that is highly unpredictable as you might predict one thing now and then you discover something else happening.

Like you said, it is not really a smart move to just sell at any time, and most times, it is always better to even sell when a correction is imminent. So the best, is to wait for that moment and if anything goes wrong, just know how to bail out quickly.

If you are considering about cashing out of crypto all together then that's a you decision, consider how much that money means to you in terms of quality of life and how you would feel if you missed out on further gains with crypto, similarly consider how you would feel if you lost all of that.

Ok so your problem is in exit or cashout, see for that you must first have a good trade plan and exit strategies in your plan. There are many ways to exit from a trade, you can choose to exit from an investment trade if you have reached your expected returns of the target or if you have hit maximum stop loss.Make some kind of technical strategy for exiting something like 3SMA crossing 12SMA.

Cash outing your profits would really have different reason among people on where they would tend to make use of those either on re-investing or on personal reasons. It depends because we do have different situation when it comes on money or financial aspect and needs on daily basis. Some doesnt really care as long he would re-invest but on some people have responsibilities on life which they would really need to cash out once they do gain profits.

First of all your strategy is good and you are doing the wise thing by investing in multiple coins, that way you are ensuring that you are getting profit regularly, second when it comes to bitcoin cashing it out is really a difficult decision, because once you do you won't be able to rebuy again unless you invest the money you cash out into something else that will get you more profit than saving bitcoin and watching it rise, I personally think that the wise thing to do is to set a goal for yourself and decide that at a certain price point you are going to cash out, and by cashing out I don't mean all of it, split your cap into tow half's, sell one and save the other, that way you are making sure that you won't lose.

You should withdraw money when you feel the bitcoin is showing signs of market bubbles. Because sometimes you can see the bitcoin is pushed too fast and the market can not accept it. That's when you need to sell the bitcoin, but then buy a bitcoin at a lower price because you know where the future of bitcoin is going.

It all depends upon your needs, when you have an emergency or you really need that amount surely you will need to accumulate everything that can be accumulated, and bitcoin is one of that. Try to earn a little each and every now and then. By asking more of the price then you are losing more chances to earn. This I experience just recently, train yourself your emotions then you will earn little by little.

I think we cannot call bitcoin market as bubble anymore as when ever there is a surge it sets a new benchmark and the value does not go below that so it will not be fair to call it as bubble rather cashing out the funds purely depends on the needs of the holder as if it is some sort of emergency or need financial help or going through financial crisis then I would suggest to withdraw the funds as the sole purpose of holding bitcoin is to have sufficient asset when you need it so there is No harm in cashing out for needs.

Trust your guts, when you feel its time close the deal and wait another good entry if you plan to trade again,
By the way nice job on diversifying your portfolio, good job not all traders like the idea of diversifying investment
That is just the truth. No one can make any decisions for anyone. We all just have to trust our guts to some extent and deal with whatever comes after it.

Most times, the chart would basically tell us what to do at a certain point in time, so no one can really say what the future will hold regarding to that. So, once we make the decisions based on that, and even if things should end up going the other way round, then we will know how to make amends quickly.

You are not really thinking about cashing out you are thinking about rebalancing your cash allocation, the most conservative approach is to do that once a year decide a date and rebalance your portfolio to your desired amounts and then one year later readjust your portfolio, if you are more aggressive you can do this several times a year that way you will not miss pumps like the one we are seeing now.

My advice to this are the about bitcoin to hold it and it's rate was very high around $17000 and above so when price increase and that only we need sell the bitcoin. You should keep calm and hold the bitcoin and you will get profit if the reaches very high value.Avoid of panic selling,o lose your money.

Well what I can say is that if you think you had earn good enough you can sell your bitcoin partially for you to be able to enjoy the profit that your investment earned. Hold the remaining because of the high rate possibility that will happen in the next coming months.
Well it depends on you. If you need the money then you probably must cash it out. But if you are not gonna use it maybe you should hold it a little more longer because the price might increase and you'll earn profit. But you can also cash out some and use it to buy for yourself, and hold and let the remaining to earn profit.

If you are considering about cashing out of crypto all together then that's a you decision, consider how much that money means to you in terms of quality of life and how you would feel if you missed out on further gains with crypto, similarly consider how you would feel if you lost all of that.
He does not want to change his strategy he wants to adjust it which is not exactly the same thing, in life you need to keep reevaluating your options so you keep getting the most out of your investments, for example lets say you buy a house and you begin to rent it but you never raise the price of the rent, in ten years your rent will be very cheap, so you need to adjust your rent every year.

I agree, the only reference that could we do is to monitor on its chart. Bitcoin is unpredictable which we couldn't even know when it will be going up or down. If you invest a huge amount of bitcoin when in the value of bitcoin is not as high as todays value, well as of this moment you have a huge profit. Somehow, if you feel that its a right time to cash out as you already contented on that certain valie then go, its your own choice.

I think now is the time for you to sell your btc. Prices have probably reached the highest level. The demand for btc is decreasing. So maybe prices will not keep rising.

Cashing out at the "right" time is very difficult. The ideal scenario is always: buy low and sell high, but this is just in theory.
Giving the high rise of bitcoin, I am also thinking of cashing a little bit of my BTC, enough to have a profit and hold the rest.

be carefull and always try to cash out when price price of bitcoin is high and stable
You could do cash out if you badly need money but if not, it is not necessary to do cash out. Holding your coins would be better and would be more profitable. It is just a long term but definitely a good idea to save more money.

If you will need money better to cash out some of them but if you'll see that the price is continuously rising better to hold until you gain much profit  :D then if you'll see that bitcoin is continuously dropping its value you should decide whether to buy altcoins, hold or cashouts.

The coins you're currently holding are for long term and cashing out should probably be only when you need it. Btc, eth, ltc and even ripple may go way beyond what we expect in a few years so cashing out on these coins entirely should be reconsidered

I sold 0.50 bitcoins at $20000, it was probably the best decision that i took, because a few hours later the price dropped to less than $19000, and a day after that it dropped to $16000.

But yes, if you have the possibility to keep holding for a while, just hold it, but if you can not, just sell them right now instead of having a headacche and nigthmares about possible bitcoin crashes, lmao.

Cashing out is a personal decision for anyone, similar to you, I cash out when I need money to attend to some needs. But you can as well cash out when you're comfortable with your profits, or if you forsee any upcoming dip, you cash out and buy back during the dip. Everyone has different times for cashing out.

This is the most important question for any trader. It all depends on your greed. I think if I closed the deal in plus, and after that the price went up, I'm not upset. Someone closes on graphical analysis, someone on the indicator or Fibonacci levels.

I recently took out a good amount of my portfolio at ~17k and managed to get back in at ~12k to 13k, which worked OK. Right now the market looks very volatile and uncertain - no one knows if it will go up or down.

Definitely used my intuition, since there was no way the price pump was healthy.

It was indeed a much needed correction, and we finally have seen it kick in. If the market remains relatively calm, current levels should be maintained without much problems, of course, with the well known ping pong movements between a certain range. That being said, it was quite an over-exaggerated sell-off that we faced yesterday. It was pretty much a one way ride, and that was down with no exceptions. I still wonder whether or not it were old hands liquidating their profits in a rapid manner instead of patiently doing so without taking the market down. We'll probably never know, but I am happy that it granted me a very decent entry point.

No one can give you a definitive answer to that as no one knows your financial situation or your personal needs. I would cash out a percentage every time there is a spike and keep a little funds ready for any dumps. This is what I will do after Xmas as now I do not have time to trade or do anything else other than post here until XMAS is over due to family commitments. MAKE some goals also that you want to reach for longer term as well and see how it goes, good luck.

There isn't a specific time to cash.  The time to cash out  isn't what really matters but cashing out to make profit.  The best thing to do is to be observant and cash out when the price is high enough to give you profits.

I see no panic here on the forum but everyone's belief in bitcoin's long-term growth (excluding short-term speculative rises and falls). This being said, unless you love trading or need cash, just hodl. Maybe even wait till the bottom of this downturn and get more. That's what I'm gonna do for sure. The trend changed so fast last time though - hope I won't miss out when the rise starts again

If you cashed out when the price of Bitcoin is more than 19k$ I think you're very lucky cause at the moment the price of Bitcoin is really low, only about 13k$ :)). But don't worry cause the potential of Bitcoin is very good and in next year I think Bitcoin price will be at least 50k$. You can cash out whenever you want as long as you feel it's the good time for you to sell your Bitcoin :)

Instead of cashing out you can follow a more simple strategy such as converting them to tether and when the price falls you can buy in dip and sell high. But when there is a rapid increase and after a time the price is stable then it must be the perfect time for cash out.

The best time to cash out your investments is when the time you had reached you target percentage goals. Don’t ever cash out if your investment is at loss because it is too stressful. Patiently wait for your investment to gain profit before cashing out.

Cash out when you need money, but do consider its price. When the price is high, then thats the best time. There are some observations that bitcoin's price is high on thursday to saturday, and lowest during sunday and monday. It also drops its price during holidays such as christmas and goes back to normal after that, and continues to rise again as time passed by. But if you dont need the money yet, just hold it to increase your profit. Decide wisely and be patient.

Yes, your almost there. I would suggest that you do the same thing as what i did. Cash it out the time you need it but if its not necessary you store or save it in your wallet. And don't expect it a huge profit if you want to convert in a fiat.

If you're holding at a loss, it's up to you to cut it short and wait for the best opportunity. If you are still holding with small gains, you can sell and wait for the best buying opportunity as well.

I have the same concern with you. Thank you for making this thread. I get ideas on when to cashout now. I haven't done a cashout transaction yet since I want to trade it again and again until the best amount. I also thought that if I cashout or sell, the price is lower than buying. So if I intend to buy btc again then I may not cash it out then since the buying price is higher than selling it. Maybe unless soon when I have lots of fund then I will cashout so I can left some for trading again.

As you said in your post, buy dip and hodl.

Everyone says buy low and sell high. If anyone can do this, he would make all the money in this world.

No one can predict when is low and when is high.

However, if you can do this right like 60% of time. You still make a lot of money.

You can do the cashing out once the price is higher than the all-time-high record of the bitcoin, that's the right time to do that and add your funds to the other cryptos or wait till the low-price came again, but, yes it's really a different and tough job to analyze.

Just be content with a little amount of profit you get from these coins. If somehow the price rises 10% of any of these coins, that should be a good sign for you and you should cash out if you want to and be satisfied with the gained amount, and invest that amount in some other coin like you said earlier, buy in dump and sell during a pump. Invest in those coins in which you believe in, and for that you have to give little time for finding and researching on new coins which might make you profit. And remember one thing, if the coins price rises further after you sold that coin, just tell yourself that i have made at least some profit from it and also that you can make more in some other coin!
Good Luck

Cash out when necessary when it is for emergency reason or what, don't let your sensitive emotion decide for you, be smart enough to do wise thing, if you are still struggling on it, pray that you could have a right decision in anything that you are doing in your life especially here in cryptocurrency where in it can change our life.

And first of all, if you have another source of income use that in your needs and back the borrow money if the price is good.

If you will need money better to cash out some of them but if you'll see that the price is continuously rising better to hold until you gain much profit  :D then if you'll see that bitcoin is continuously dropping its value you should decide whether to buy altcoins, hold or cashouts.
Eventually bitcoin is going to reach a huge price that most of use is not going to  believe so when cashing out make sure to only cash out what you need, otherwise the consequences in the future for you are going to be terrible as you watch the price of bitcoin climbing higher and you have not stored any, I know that if that happened to me I will be enraged by my lack of future orientation.

No one can tell you when to cash out as I don’t think anyone know what is the top. If you are holding for the long term, then cash out when you need to use the money or when the price level reaches your target.

If you intend to trade for short term, you can set a profit margin target to cash out whenever you make certain percentage. In this way, you lost out of BTC is bullish.

Monitoring price is important because price increase in just  a seconds or in just a minute. Also if he is trading he used to hold that coin first and wait for the right price for him. So I  think before you cash out its better to trace if your  coin has the potential to get higher. Then sell it when you meet the price is right for you.

This I think is the main problem of many traders as the time for cashing out is not predictable and usually leads to confusions. But my strategy is to cash out when I have earned at least 2x from my investment.

Nobody can say when is a right time to sell, what if its fall 10% but jumps up 80%. So selling is totally a traders call based on his personal understanding and satisfaction. I also sell when its like over 80% upon my capital invested. But I do prefer to wait to cross it more unless I find its getting risky or not worth in the future.

Generally, that's a fair way of locking in profits, but it's tricky when it comes to Bitcoin. If we calculate from the example of you buying at $1000 earlier this year, and sell at the moment you made 2x in profits, you would have missed out tremendously on further growth. In some cases, where the example is also one of, it helps to just secure a tiny percentage of your profits. If you have sold all at once, there was no way for you to benefit from the price moving up higher. But if you just cashed out a small fraction, you would still be able too book fantastic profits while the price was marching to the $10k level, and later even to the $20k level. Every situation needs a different approach.

yeah I think it will depend on the strategy of each trader itself, usually some traders fix what price they should wait to sell their bitcoin, and how many percent of the bitcoin they will sell also vary, there are some traders who sell all their bitcoins, of course this is not a recommendation because they does not have a back up plan. I myself always set aside a few percent maybe 25% for me to save back until the future,,

You should withdraw money when the market is in a downward trend. You may notice this soon if you constantly update the chart of the altcoin market, often reduced due to very bad news or bitcoin increase too Strong, capital flows from the altcoin market are concentrated on bitcoin. Always focus on the market to help you make the right decisions.

Right now the only time I cash out is when I need to money to buy a gift or something.

really you just take or do bitcoin to cash when you're in need of money, if not then store the bitcoin you have for good and grow the bitcoin you have by playing altcoin.

Cashing out is a personal decision for anyone, similar to you, I cash out when I need money to attend to some needs. But you can as well cash out when you're comfortable with your profits, or if you forsee any upcoming dip, you cash out and buy back during the dip. Everyone has different times for cashing out.
yes there is no desire counsel that you are might to know here cause having this kind of decision are always by your own and not depending on others yes it is hard to have that kind of decision but we all know that this is personally you can have a lot of choices but always remember we all have different needs.
Yeah hold your coin for the longer terms bitcoin don’t give much in short term but in longer terms it gives up to 500% of profit and yeah this has already happened buddy those who bought bitcoin last year at the end in previous days they earned 18000+ profit on their investment and all this is because they keep patience and don’t sell at the lower profit so advise to you is make an aim and hold till then and keep calm.

You can always cash out when the price is high because the market is kinda bullish, after each pump, there s a dump. You have to keep that in mind in order to make profit

There is no telling what the future holds for bitcoin because of its volatility. As for me, the only time I sell is when I have a need for it, Kind of like an emergency fund that I can use at my disposal. A lot of people speculate the value would triple in 2018. I don’t have a need to sell; hence I will just hold and see if the surge will occur. I wouldn’t want to miss it out anyway.

I think cash out should  be done during a high price  that is already profitable enoughf to gain a bog huge amount of return from trading.Maybe we need to make a right decision into thus kind of profiting aspects because we need to have a update everyday on the correspondin price  to avoid doing a wrong moves or maybe wrong decision.

Cash out whenever you have made a considerable amount of profits.

Exactly each person needs to decide for himself when to cash out, there were people that cashed out their bitcoin when bitcoin was 10 dollars while there is no doubt that most of them are lamenting that at the same time they thought it as the correct time to do so, so if you think that cashing out right now is a good option for you then do it, just do not regret it later if bitcoin reaches a new all time high.

Your investment on Eth and Ltc. Both of coin are more stable. Price of these coin is so valuable and rising continuously. Don't cash out if you have no need. Price will be increasing in huge amount in future. So just wait for big amount for your investment. Hope you will be profitable much more than now.

Should cash out either when you need the funds, want the funds, or your coins have done what you wanted them to do. Hard to know what goals you have for yourself and therefore the question is something you should ask yourself. What are you looking for in life? What are you crypto goals? Etc , etc.

Damn. Right now I feel lucky I cashed out on my BTCs at 16-17k to buy alts. Cashed out ETHs yesterday to buy altcoins.

I will be back in BTC when I feel the time is right. Right now there is money to be made elsewhere.

I sold a bunch of LTCs yesterday as well, to buy altcoins. I still have around 20 though, because I couldn't stand to see "0" there. I really like my Litecoins.

this is what I do when I run out of money and fortunately, I can do it with selling my bitcoin. actually, if we can make a note about how much we need to cash out in every month, then we can know when the time we should cash out. I think it depends on you when you want to cash out your coins to money because only you that will know what you want to buy for your daily needs. if you don't need to buy something for your daily needs, then I think you can keep your coins for a long time and once the price increase higher, then it is time for you to cash out the money.

There is no "right time" to cashout, because the price of bitcoin is unpredictable. As long as you cash out during its pump then its good enough, even if only increase 10% then its more than good enough. There is always regret, "If only i did not cash out and wait a little longer my money could have been 10x" or "If only I did cash out right away and did not wait any longer my money should have been 10x rather than no 1x only". The key is to control youre emotion and move forward.

Yes, that's very true and I also have the same idea. But if I may suggest, you better never cashout if you do not need money. We all know that the price of Bitcoin is always increasing and therefore our profit is always increasing. If you cashout now, then profit in the future will not get you. But if you really need money, you can cashout anytime when the Bitcoin you saved has given you a profit. Actually it's not just 10%, but when you've got 1% profit, you've got profit. It's just that, all of us would want a lot of profit .. therefore save and invest for as long as you can. If you want to change your life, then invest in several years will do good for you.

The best time to cash out your investments is when the time you had reached you target percentage goals. Don’t ever cash out if your investment is at a loss because it is too stressful. Patiently wait for your investment to gain profit before cashing out.

The very smart move that is actually obvious is cash out your holding if you gained a lot of money like for example you just bought it in a $10k and a week after the coin pumps and now you have $20k so it is much better to cash it oit befote the value drops again just do not be so greedy because i was greedy before and i thought it will still pump but not so i lose a lot of money and time also. But if you really need the money then no matter what price it is you cash it out because you need it it is and emergency and it is okay.

Some people do both, have long term positions that they do not touch. And have some cash set aside for some trading...

You would surely regret on those times specially when you do saw that your coin that have been sold did able to reach out 10-100x on its price. You will surely kick that damn wall on frustrations on possible profits that you would made or even you do missed the opportunity on getting rich. This is my situation when I'm still a newbie holding off some coins but I'm not really patient for long term holds but theres no need to regret since past is past and its done already. If you do seen the possibilities or potential of a coin better to hold it off no matter what.

Cash out when you see 50% - 100% rise on your coins because it will have correction for sure. But it should just be selling and not cashing because to get much, you need to multiply that profit by buying again on that correction and cashing out will just stop your gains.

Don't cash out if the market is falling down because you might regret it because you will be losing the chance to get the profits of that bitcoin in the higher price or rate. I think you should cash out when the price of bitcoin or any crypto that you have is close to its peak so you will not regret selling and once the price goes down again then don't worry to buy some of them.

Better not think about the price. Just go do it if you have already made a profit from what you invested. Too much thinking will just make you regret it.
I remembered a friend told me something about it.
He asked first "How much did you invest in buying bitcoin?" then "How much it is now?"

With that I am like hammered in the head. Oh Yes! I am already a winner, I can cash out anytime.

Giving advice is a thankless job, but I'm still gonna take the risk. It is necessary to distinguish short-term trading from long-term investment. In the first case, it is really important to understand when you need to close the position. In the second case - either just hold, or buy each month additional coins for a certain amount.

The volume of the currencies rapidly decreases in short period of time. It depends on your decision making when to cash out money , but I suggest you to wait more couple of months because the prices is slowly recovering of this trend and has the possibility to grow its prices. For now, be patience and update the market everytime because I believe sooner or later we can get good profit return due to the volatility in the market.

It is important that before buying the coin, we already know when to take profit because whatever happens, we know what to do. This is one of the major mistakes of some traders and I am guilty of this too before because I tend to become greedy as I don't know when to take profit so I am always hoping that the price would go up only to see it the next minute drop down in value and then regret why I didn't take profit when the price is high. I still need to get over about the control of emotion as it is what hinders me to think properly. My recommendation would be to take profit from time to time and do not be greedy.

Giving advice is a thankless job, but I'm still gonna take the risk. It is necessary to distinguish short-term trading from long-term investment. In the first case, it is really important to understand when you need to close the position. In the second case - either just hold, or buy each month additional coins for a certain amount.
If you are in for the long term investment then a good way be cost averaging so that you will not have a big loss when the price goes down in value. Besides that, the short term price wouldn't matter that much to you as you are positive that you will reap your profits after a few years.

well if you want to know the right time to monetize, I mean when the market goes down drastically, you have to learn technical analysis, you can try to find someone who is expert in the analysis, remember there is no harm in spending a little money for knowledge, because with that knowledge you can got more.
sometimes people choose to lose a considerable amount of money in trading, rather than having to spend money for his intelligence.

When you decide to invest, you have to be risk-takers and long-term investors to make big profits. If you withdraw money now, you will regret it in the near future. The market is heating up. I advise you to wait patiently and continue to keep your money.
it's true what you say. better to hold first bitcoin you have if you do not want to regret later. because now it's autumn for all the coins. so better be resisted first and do not disbursed if my suggestion hell

Cash out during an all time high. If there's massive adoption, then don't cash out. As in, governments and ordinary people are using cryptocurrencies, which it seems like that may be the trend.

1) According to McAfee, he still predicting BTC to be worth $1m by the end of 2020.
2) https://steemit.com/cryptocurrency/@matthewoz101/why-the-cryptocurrency-market-cap-will-explode-in-2018 A ton of top cryptocurrencies listed in my post are launching their mainnets soon and adoption will be expected to increase.
3) If you decide to cash out, do NOT fomo and buy back in at a loss. A pump can't last forever and there will have to be a correction.

I haven't cashed out even 1 btc since 2014 when I initially started investing. And I don't plan on cashing out any time soon. We have mass adoption growing, less FUD, better technology, multi billion dollar companies getting involved etc everything we need for price increase as time goes buy. In my opinion cashing out now will make you regret your decision.

that you can have for the rest of your life because you will be profitable enough in terms of financial aspects in this business.

First of all we need to help in increasing the demand for the etherium and Bitcoin. Then the market will begin to recover. It is because of the public interest in the crypto currency that the market will rise.

I’m gladly to say that wait for the little time that the value of coins or investments are in the high value in the market that can makes you profitable.

I think that would depend on the price of your coins in the market. If you think that the value of your coins is reasonable enough and that you already have a good profit out of it, well you can cash it out. It the value is still a 'lil bit low might as well wait for a good value of your coin before you try to cashout.

I can tell you how I do. If you do not now need money that you earned in the crypto currency, then do not take them off, but wait until the crypto currency becomes more popular. In the future, you probably will not have to withdraw the crypto currency from your wallet, since you can pay it everywhere. I'm just waiting for this moment.

If you are a long time holder then holding up until reaching ATH or new ATH would be good but still taking out profits would depending on how a certain investor would like to do such thing because we are different when it comes to profit targets. Some would like to see profits for a short period of time thats why they do make short or active tradings and some doesnt like to involve or make things complicated and do choose up to hold for long term instead.Profit taking will always depend on your choice on when you do see its worth it.

There should be a reasonable investment plan to always be active in all the worst situations of this market. I think this is not a good time to withdraw money from this market because it's just a slight increase and your chance will be in the last months of this year. Try to stay calm and follow the market to make the right decision.

Yes, Anything which you make profit on your investment will always help us to make some decent profit. If you didn't make any profit it is completely waste withdrawing them, so it is always good to hold until you make some decent profit.

And you do not get any profit, you even get a loss, if I were you, I would have a plan and have some cash for those cases where I needed money, not enough, we can borrow from friends, should not touch our assets on exchange, we should only cash out when it has the profit that we desire

Will i thinks the control is upon in your own decision on when is the right time you cash out or change some of your crypto into fiat money as long its necessary ,because in my own strategy i want to focus on how to grow more my investment,so that in the time thats i grow old i have an asset to inherit into the members of my family, therefore,in my own advice its better to focus your investment.

My advice is that, the time to cash out depends solely on the target been set by the trader. i usually advice that, if your coin has made enough profits for you, you can decide to cash out your profits. Remember this is crypto market and nothing goes up forever. At some point, prices would certainly come crashing down after it has made its movement upward

Better not to cash out yet because four sure after some time, the amount that you currently have will be doubled or should I say, tripled. Better be prepared than sorry.

How do you know when to cash out??
When you need the money. Unless you are in a hurry to cash out, there is no reason to cash out right now. Wait until something like December happens before you even consider cashing out. If something like that happens once again you can cash out some but do not spend the money on silly things like I once did. It is a wrong move, just put it aside and wait until all coins go back down on a bear market and sees the dip, than buy again but higher amounts this time.

Now is probably not the best time to cash out. I'd say wait until it reaches at least 20k or higher and then you can start thinking about it.
When we believe into bitcoin to reach $40k or $60k then how $20k will be the best time to cash out ? I suggest not rely on bitcoin prices for cashing out. Just calculate your ROI and if you are satisfied with that then you may go for it, else wait more ;). Everyone might have different expectation on bitcoin price levels but definitely not with ROI and waiting periods as these are personal things.

yeah, you are right. but I won't borrow to my friend because I am too afraid if somehow, I cannot repay that money and it will make our relationship will become bad. but at least, now I try to manage my money especially my coins and if I see that I can make a profit from the coin, I will sell some part to get my money back and save it in my wallet just in case I want to buy another coin or to withdraw that money. I hope that it will enlighten me so I can prevent making a loss in the future.

If I will buy something or in a emergency situation I will probably cash out. Also, I cash out when it the market is in the drop but it depends also. It is very strict for me, as I have that money though so my investment should be on the right place.

When you say move on , do you mean he should leave the crypto scene permanently after he make a good profit ? hmmm , that strategy is no good imo . why would you leave if you think you can handle your trades pretty easy? You did even manage to earn a good income because you know what you are doing . you should rather continue doing trades in crypto but in a minimal cost or trade only what you can afford to loose so that you wont regret bigtime if sometime bad happen to your capital .

There is no definite guide about when we can cash out. Actually as long as it earns profit, then it's okay to cash it out. I don't think it's necessary as long as we don't take any loss. The matter is in how much we got in the profit and how greedy we are in getting profit. There is always a chance to double the profit in next times.

In my opinion it is difficult to predict due to price volatility, but you can safely withdraw when prices are stable. But if we want to play safe, enough money when we need it and just save your Bitcoin. If you see any upcoming decline, you cash in and buy back during the downturn. Everyone has a different time to cash in time.

This is very good think to buy token when market going to dump. Your strategy is perfect for buy any token. You hold BTC, ETH and LTC so this are very perfect choice and this token is very trustable. If you buy Btc when price was around $6000 so it is very simple when you need to cash out. If you see btc price is going dump on that time you must exchange btc to USDT then again you can withdraw your money in your personal wallet.

In the two days ago, I can cash out my balance again after waiting for some time, and I glad that I can do this by selling some of my coins at the highest price. I don't cash out all of the money, but I only cash out 30% from the total of profit I got so I still have a balance to buy another coin which I think it will increase later. I think if the situations like this, I can try to get another profit and I will cash out again for some money and re-buy the other coins for my investment and add more amount to my coin.
