The Bitcoin/USD chart is forming a classic Head & Shoulders pattern, which usually means trouble. Possible 10K incoming. 

As per today's report, there is downward trend but hopefully it will move up in the days to come. It will gain value. 

as long as it has not yet reached $12000 then it is not "dropping". it is within the tolerance of fluctuations in bitcoin. and right now price is still above $14000

this drop was mainly because of the SegWit2x fork in my opinion because if you look at the timing of it, it started right near the time where the fork was supposed to happen. that screams manipulation and panic sell from those who bought bitcoins temporarily in hopes of getting the free B2X coins that has been advertised in the past couple of days.

It is a big challenge for us and the entire crypto world, since not only bitcoin is dropping but also some altcoins. It is really hard to find out what is the reason for this crisis. But usually people are expecting a huge pump after this and we should not lose our hope.

Bitcoin is droping and would still drop but while it drops many people will invest and buy bitcoin. Because the lower the price of bitcoin the higher will be the revenue of the coin when price rise back. Keep on monitoring the price of bitcoin in order not to get delayed on the forks of bitcoin.

I do think that it's because of the new year😃 we all know how much one spends on the days like this maybe most of the people are encashing bitcoins so that they can pay for it.. is what I think..
Otherwise this up down trend is what makes a crypto currency .. boon...
I don't know why all of this is happening when .. the CAME suddenly started... That bitcoins future thing.. there is genuinely no lead so as what will happen next..

You are new so you think that BTC is dropping and this is some news,for days price is in range from 13 000$ to 16 000$ and it will take some time until it stabilizes.So there is nothing strange in this price movement,although it is pretty dramatic for some to see that price go down few thousands of dollars in one day-but this is BTC.

For all of you who think the price is low,that BTC is dead or that South Korea means something,just check what was the situation at the beginning of the year and what it is now.In terms of price, amazing progress :)

I don't totally agrees that the timing of SegWit2x is responsible for the downward movement of the price of bitcoin, so many factors has greatly contributed to to this the time of the year when most investors will like to cash out they bitcoin in other to enjoy the season with they live one.the challenges faced by the blockchains and mining farms that lead to thousands of unconfirms transactions and delay in transactions and also the panic selling has all contributed negatively to bitcoin price but nevertheless in as much as the price has not gone down below $10000k it still within the positive signal and bitcoin price will rise again very soon.

I think it's normal, but it will be in a better state some time of the year. Aside from that, people would still buy and invest in Bitcoin because its value will increase soon enough.

Yes. Bitcoin did have a big drop 2 days back. It is generally expected for the price to shoot up to last All Time High. Give it some time it will reach 20k+ in no time. This is a very normal daily drop for btc. A thousand USD value rise and fall is quite normal, it will be recovered in just one pump.

I think this is to be expected. I mean, nothing, even in the strongest markets would climb non-stop without any sight of stopping or slowing down at least. It happens even to the best assets. However, it can also be seen as an indicator of the good things that is waiting to happen for it. I mean, bitcoin has increased in value and marketability at such a rapid and seemingly soaring phase in just the past two months. That shows that it's really beginning to become a big market player globally which would help to promote it more with people and basically would increase its value and transactions.

Yup I agreed the time of the drop is prior to the starting Hard Fork that is gonna happen and it is not really sudden because there are certain warning that segwit2X will start the Hard Fork on the 28 of December and a sudden panic sell that have occurred prior to the Hard Fork, But I really think that the price is still high, and it will sure go higher when the Hard Fork got finish and prior in entering the new year.

I think it is due to the festive season bitcoin price is dropping. People are selling off their holdings to meet their expenses during the year end festive season. That is the reason why we are seeing a high number of transactions are adding to the Network and the fees is rising sky high.

But this price drop has provided an immense opportunity for the investors like us to buy at a cheaper cost and average out our holding price. Currently we are not seeing the effect of that buying spree in bitcoin price but I am sure that the situation will start improving after the first week of January for sure.

I think the situation right now is normal. It is not really a surprised. Many people expected that this situation will happen. It is the time people should think fast to buy coin. It is include a normal range to drop. So, It doesn't matter. It will improving next year.

Expect a more deeper dip from its market price now because of the two global events in the last week of of this month.  After all of that, expect also a major price hike in January and i believe that bitcoin is set to take off for hitting a new price high again.

I think the most rational thing that we can expect for some cryptocurrency users to panic sell especially if they think that this is as hogh that bitcoin gets and with the banning in some countries that it can lead to the complete stoppage of bitcoin.

I think it's dropping due to loss of interest. Altcoins especially Ethereum develop rapidly implementing new features and increasing transaction speed. Bitcoin stuck and wins only because of its price that actually doesn't let newbies to invest in it.

It's funny how most of us worry because of this small drop in bitcoin's price. It was $20k before but now, it had fallen to $13-14k. However, if I am not mistaken, bitcoin's price last January 2017 was almost at $1000 only. Analyzing the increase and decrease of bitcoin price, its price was able to surge from $1000 to $20000 in a span of 11 months. Isn't that amazing? Yes. Yes, it is amazing. However, being the kind of people we are, we tend to think only of the negative things. We worry at the slightest drop of bitcoin price but pay no attention to its huge increase. Seriously, people. It's going to return to its peak soon. Don't be so alarmed.

It is not surprising to seeing the price of bitcoin dropping it has been on correction several days ago having hit a support at $12500+ meanwhile closure of some exchanges in south Korea has no impact on the price of bitcoin, China did it some few months ago there was just a little impact on the price of bitcoin. We are expecting a hardfork in few hours to come so definitely the price will rise again.

Bitcoin price dropping is actually normal. It is capable to shoot up astronomically or drastically crash. Bitcoin dropped for now but it will soon increase in value in the future. People might sell their bitcoins now or others may take this opportunity to buy bitcoin with a lesser price.

I agree with you bitcoin dropping is a temporary. It will be back to the price as most speculation to the highest. Maybe it can go up next year more than $30k. So Im expecing next to happen of bitcoin will be go up high after this dropping event.

Well, everything that goes up will expectedly goes down. Cryptocurrency most especially Bitcoin is just like dribbling a ball it will automatically bounce back so don't you worry about the drop because it will be fine. Take it as an opportunity to pour additional investment because if the price will go up expect some profit. For me it doesn't matter if it goes up or down because it is always our advantage it's just a big deal when you lost because you don't control your emotions.

Exactly, when bitcoin is dropping it's starting to move further and the price of it can be doubled with it's recent drop. What to expect on these times is many are going to start panicking and will think that it will be the end of bitcoin.

same thing happened last year same month, Bitcoin price dropped but after january 2017 + Bitcoin price started coming back and the result we hit 20k USD this year then next year i'm expecting to see 30kUSD+.

price change of btc is normal part of it no need to panic ,same thing happens to stock market price varies of its demand (how much people want it) its price is dropping because people are selling it new year celebration they need money and that affects its price, anyway if people sell it more then they buy it its price drops simple as that.

The bitcoin does not fall now, it floats on the price waves, then rising or falling. New Year and Christmas holidays will pass, then he will start his next ascent. So now you should not panic, but wait until the end of the first decade of January. After that, bitcoin should already overcome the mark of 20 000 dollars and will grow further.

This is just my observation when bitcoin price increase I observe that altcoins dump and even ether so since bitcoin is dropping I expect that altcoins will increase. It is just my thoughts and observations about cryptos.

There are many reasons for the sometimes biggish fluctuations, mainly this is due to market confidence and news, the big dump (actual) a few days ago distilled a lot of
FOMO dilemmas for many, some dumped too, and lost out - be strong, lets the markets recover, and don't trade with a hot head!

You expect nothing actually as this is a normal occurrence. IMO, the drop is healthy. It is much needed or else the graph might look parabolic, and that is not good. Just buy the dip and hodl, you'll be fine.

It is indeed a correction, just people are impatient - patience is quite scarce in Bitcoin community - and the quantity of FUD is incredibly high this time.
If people would understand that we are still higher than we were in December 1st and such corrections are healthy, many speculators would get out of business.

The rise and fall of Bitcoin is its own behaviour. Bitcoin dropped for now but it will soon increase in value in the future. People might sell their bitcoins now or others may take this opportunity to buy bitcoin with a lesser price.

I think we have a few factors playing havoc on the Bitcoin price, although given the circumstances and in comparison to a normal stock, Bitcoin is doing quiet well during this downturn. Here are the reasons I think that BTC price is staying flat and stuck in the $13,000-$14,500 range for the last week or so.

1.)South Korea announced that it may be closing some exchanges.
2.)Fake News FUD sensationalizing all negative headlines and casting doubt on any positive headlines coming out of the Bitcoin community.
3.)End of Year Profits for investors.

While Vitaly Buterin is on a recent rant about people taking profits in cryptocurrencies, let's be honest, investors want to make profits. So the easiest explanation for the dip is investors taking profit, yet you won't hear this on Bloomberg or CNBC because Bitcoin "is not real" according to them. Couple this with South Korea looking to close what are probably scam bitcoin exchanges, the media sensationalizes the headline into an all-out ban on the entire cryptocurrency universe. Once investors realize it's just the media spreading FUD about Bitcoin, and realize exactly what Bitcoin and cryptocurrency does, then we will see the price go back up. If their taking profits on BTC, they'll really love the fact that Bitcoin reduces the cost of making payments tremendously for individuals and businesses. It will be years before the Bitcoin bubble forms and pops. I'm hodling on my Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies for now, after all this is the same FUD The media was spreading last year, and BTC is up $12000-$13000.

I don't know what is the basis bitcoin dump, but i always believe on bitcoin have big future to become populat in the world, i think need to control the bitcoin in the marketcap because the whales playing the bitcoin in their hands, if not weong of my opinion.

I also think the price can be hit the lowest by 10k but i really dont hope it.

As in December month there are many report are coming about hacked account in which millions of bitcoin are stolen, because of this many people stopped investing.

This is one of the highest price drops we have ever tasted. It seems impossible when we see a decline in Bitcoin prices that reach 30% more in a short time. I will try to do the analysis and I will sell some of the Bitcoin I have. But in a strategy I will still Holding Some Bitcoin because I am still convinced that one day there will be a miracle that can increase again Bitcoin price compared to the current Bitcoin price.

The value has corrected and since futures started, we are now going to witness a never-ending duality where both bulls and bears have the opportunity to make money over going long or shorting Bitcoins. You saw a decline and you think it dropped, what about a straight 2000% increase that happened during this year alone, eh? Forgot it? I think it's still didn't get below $10700 that was the current lowest for this year after reaching the ATH at 20k, so don't worry yet as we might see a rebound once again after the bulls get back in action.

Since bitcoin is base of all altcoin when bitcoin's price dropping then altcoin's price going down too. if you're going to invest in cryptocurrency better invest in Bitcoin, then if you want trading then invest in altcoin

bitcoin dropping is normal,every coin has a pump and dump scenario,we knew that.as long as it's not fluctuating too much,then nothing to worry. Everything that happens is just an effect of continues fork.

Just look at Bitcoin's evolution on CoinMarketCap and you will understand that this is not the only important drop of Bitcoin. That's it's way of rising: 2 step forward, 1 step backwards. I don't think this drop if a panic reason as most probable Bitcoin will raise again by the beginning of January.

I think everybody investing in Crypto market assumed that the market is volatile. (volatile = increasing and/or decreasing) So, why crying like babies when facing (more or less) normal fluctuations?

Shaking off the weak hands and I guess this is just the right price right now. After all the crazy bull runs in the last few months, this is just a correction. Shorters gets their piece of the pie.

It can still go lower but the good news is we can buy more bitcoin and all the red alt coins out there.

I am not sure how long the price will go when it comes to ETH,the coins are not limited and i am not sure whether they are planning for any cap,i am expecting a correction in bitcoin for a very long time and now it looks like a good correction,yet the price is not going down like we used to see in the past,either way it is a good correction and get the coins when you can and hold for the long term.

Bitcoin price correction follows after a price uptrend and it caused mostly by some negative factors and investors taking their profits. Next year, the bitcoin may bounce back again but it hard to predict when will it hit another all-time high.

I am expecting that it will fall till 10600$. On that price I will buy more bitcoin. Because given the limited number of offers and the dynamically growing demand for Bitcoin, then an incredible rally is expected for us. I  think in the second half of the next year we will see huge rise of Bitcoin and we'll see 50K$ in 2018.

You are right on that this is a good time to buy Bitcoin, but don't wait too long because even right now the price is pretty low and who knows which way it will go in the next couple of weeks.

If thinking long term it's obvious that Bitcoin's potential is much higher than $20k because when it hit $20k earlier this year most people of the developed countries were still not using Bitcoin. And don't forget that there are many other countries were most people are poor but still there are many rich people who will adopt BTC soon, not because they know what to do with it but "just in case" because they have a lot of spare money. Then, step by step, poor people will be adopting Bitcoin too. With greater adoption the price will be rising inevitably, and it's obvious that Bitcoin will be adopted more and more in the future.

I'm not seeing a dip but a price correction, better grab this opportunity to buy more Bitcoins. Then keep it as a long-term investment. Indeed, it's the best time to buy since the price broke the $20000 mark last weeks. Just expect next year a crazy ride on Bitcoins price rally, for sure 2018 will be huge.

This is very sad that Bitcoin and other Crypto currencies are dropping but Bitcoin will raise again. There is always ups and down in everything. Bitcoin will be reached at $100,000 in upcoming few years.

Yes the price is dropping but no need to worry. Because its just a small dump maybe it will be back again to twenty thousan dollars. We cant predict when it was rising up but still hope that it will happen as long as there is investors and buyers who is still buying bitcoins and investing to a particular signature campaigns.

If you can't a little correction like what we're experiencing right now then you don't really have what it takes to be involved in a rapidly growing field of cryptocurrency. These people get scared to easily and see some numbers go backwards and they start using the word scam, it's best to ignore these folks they're not going to engage with you in any insightful conversation.

An annalist said that Bitcoin corrections mostly stabilized between a loss of 38 to 60%. So from 20k $ we could see it settle in the range between 8k and ~12k$.

Christmas and new year has its role while the market is red at the moment. It is "present" season that's why a lot of people is cashing out some of their money and using it for this holiday week. After first week of the year I'm expecting a green week finally.

To be honest, I also have bit confused what to do. These confusions among the traders make the sudden price varying too, because lot of people start to sell their coins just after bit of price drop. So it makes the price continuously drop further.

As one guy told in the comments, people might en-cash BTC as the new year comes for the expenses. I have seen some treads where people asking, it is ok to sell their properties and invest in BTC. I do not believe that they have gone to that level but it indicates that people might invest all they could. As the new year comes, the expenses goes high, that is a fact we all are aware of. When BTC goes down, relatively some Alt coins are going up, that is something I have noticed when you look into the past. Anyway, I you look into BTC history from the beginning, there are two major price drops and this types of drops should be expected as I think.

every end of December bitcoin prices often goes down, usually, many who sell their bitcoin for Christmas and New Year's celebrations. I'm sure bitcoin will rise again after a week in January

I'm sure the falling bitcoin price is only temporary considering the number of events for the next few days,
maybe up to one or two weeks after the new year bitcoin prices will start jumping up

actually no need to be afraid to face the price of bitcoin drop like this, put mindset that bitcoin this is long term investment

why is everyone so amenable to panic. look at the graphics before the new year for bitcoin last year was a similar situation. generally the market of cryptocurrency is very similar to the asset market, about the same time inputs / outputs. good traders took a break until spring and then the boom will start again.

We all now by now that with the high volatility of Bitcoin the prices go up and down all the time. But we also must admit that 20K still is a difficult hurdle to take. With the whales cashing out we see the price drop to 12.5K recently. The price could go even lower to 11K, this will then be the start of a new uptrend and next year March bitcoin could hit 30K.

I also believe many new investors entered bitcoin at its ATH and are now panic selling due to the drop in price. Those of use who have seen bitcoin's price for many years know that these movements are perfectly normal.

Don't make you upset bro. This is part of trading. There will be ups and downs. It is called correction in trading. Because it went to 20K very fast, it is now in correction phase. And also christmas time  effecting the market. In a week or two everything wil be fine.

i think we should expect the higher or bigger rise of bitcoin

First of all bitcoin is not dropping bitcoin is very stable with high price in market and if it became drop so I will never cut or lose bitcoin because bitcoin is such a currency which don’t want to drop its price it’s actually a digital currency and its price is related with market trade so its normal and nothing to worry about anything some time it will high and some time it will be slow because its apart of business and I will be keep in touch with bitcoin.

I’m also interested to see how the price turns out in a week or two in the new year.

Unless lightning network update for bitcoin is released expect a downwards price trend in bitcoin and upwards for Alts especially ripple.

It is not a problem or a big issue to discuss because Bitcoin is unstoppable and will again reach to its height. Everyone around here are just worrying about its falling but when it is high to the sky then nobody is sharing his/her happiness. There has been a lot of profit taking, but we should not lose sight of the bigger picture. There is a lot of jostling amongst cryptocurrencies for a bigger market share. When a new investor who tries to use bitcoin finds out that other currencies have lower fees and are easier to use, they might migrate to altcoins. That could be a hurdle for Bitcoin to cross $20k again quickly.

Exactly. It was a very high price. Highest ever. It is natural that it is now falling. The same was when the split at BCH was coming. The price in March 2018 should be growing again.

I think one of the reason is most of the people will cash out some of their bitcoin to enable to spend some during these holiday season. Charts says in bitcoin dot org shows that there are huge amount of transaction several weeks ago. Thus the price decrease because there are more people who want to sell rather than to buy. History shows that during December and January bitcoin price did not move upwards, but after those months the price will again skyrocketed. Thus I think this is just normal, it happened every year for almost four years by now.

I was oriented before that fluctuations of value is normal in bitcoin. Even if it's price is in downtrend I'm not worried at all because I know it will rise again. But that doesn't mean that I'm not sad it's normal for me to feel that way but I'm not focusing on it and my expectation is that bitcoin will get high again.

Im expecting a massive bounce back of bitcoin within this year actually im adding my investment at bitcoin while it is still affordable. There's nothing to worry everything is normal that bitcoin may go up and down but the most important thing is that you will follow and ride the trend of bitcoin inorder to earn high. We must believe at bitcoin, we should not sell our bitcoin at a lower price because it will rise sooner.

I think that is normal and to be expected knowing that it is bitcoin.  We all know how volatile bitcoin is,  depending on what is happening on the Market.  There are many factors affecting the decreasing and the increasing of the value of bitcoin, but I think sooner it will increase.  It is because many people will actually invest more for the reason that the value is lower than before,  and the more people investing the higher the value it will be. So don't panic,  I think it is normal.

Yes, Bitcoin is dropping and nobody knows why this are happening.It is also difficult to find out this.But we expect a huge pump for getting legal profit otherwise investors may be count a huge loss.So,we expect a pump from Bitcoin immediately.
