Title: Why I would rather have paper money then Bitcoin
Post by: squatz1 on January 04, 2018, 08:10:31 AM
This is going to come to a surprise to many on here, but at the moment I'd rather have paper (US FIAT) money. It's something that I would be able to actually use in my life with ease, and even though I love crypto and everything I have to be honest about what I think and see.

Plus for the fact that if i was to have bitcoin right now, I'd be paying a very high amount in fees if I wanted to actually end up using this money.

Bitcoin is not for everyone and for that reason a true mass adoption is under big question.
You can use Bitcoins in your everday life as easy and convenient as any fiat currency but you have to know how to use it and know the mechanisms that could make this easier, like Bitcoin debit cards. Knowledge and informations are very important for every Bitcoin user.

Bitcoin has a fluctuating value, it will grow up and sometime it will crush your money.

So you think that someone could just create a currency and make the world use it in a few years? It doesn't work that way and It takes time. Instead of having the community learning more about bitcoin and doing tests in projects like LN etc. all they do is complaining about fees and comparing bitcoin to something it.

When you're patient enough BTC will never crash your money. You should study the markets and know when to enter the markets and when not to enter the markets. Window of opportunity is key in the BTC business.

Well, using bitcoin or FIAT money is all a matter of choice and preference. If you found yourself in a scenario where using Bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency is unavoidable, you will not even remember that the transaction fees are high before making payments.

you went too far in my opinion.
the only characteristic that is missing from bitcoin, and only for a month or two! is low fees. there are lots of other characteristics such as being decentralized which are still intact. so saying "I prefer fiat over bitcoin just because fees are high" is going too far.

and we are all aware of the problems. this is a decentralized network we are using so "we" are responsible for how it is going to be like. right now the accepted scaling solution is SegWit and all the things that will come after it but it is not yet adopted. "we" need to force the services to adopt it anyways we can. for example if you are using Coinbase or blockchain.info start sending them emails requesting to add support for SegWit and if they refused we MUST stop using them.

Not into bitcoin but let it be any crypto currency the uniqueness about crypto currency is fluctuating value which we can utilize it for our benefit by cashing in during dump and cashing out after a pump to increase the return on investment and I don't think anyone who is using bitcoin for a long time has suffered huge loss but again it's not for everyone at the moment if you are investing then it should be an investment of time and money so that you are actually aware of market situation to make the right move.

Fiat is our easiest form of currency it has been in place for a long time and there is nothing difficult about using it. Bitcoin on the other hand does have a learning curve for new people to understand with keys and understanding of it price volatilities. Transaction fees are an issue that can be resolved.

In terms of transactions, fiat money is really the better choice. It is really nice that bitcoin transactions are untracable and the users are being anonymous but its transaction fees are really expensive. And also fiat money is really flexible in almost all transactions.

Wait for lighting network and wait for more stores to accept bitcoins, there isn't much more to say, but I know how frustrating is to have bitcoins and not able to use it and spend it for daily needs. I would like to go to store and pay with bitcoins I hope this will be possible one day.

It all depends on your needs, if you prefer the fiat and is enough to meet your needs, then no problem. However, you missed the opportunity to get a lot of benefits from cryptocurrency, either with investment, trading, etc.
If what you are concerned about is a large transaction fee, then I can only explain that the bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are not suitable for micro-payment. Look at other more profitable functions, cryptocurrency is not just for payment.

Bitcoin is for risk takers. I do understand your side where you would rather use fiat than Bitcoin due to the enormous fees asked for its transaction when fiat requires none to minimal amount. Here in the Philippines, cryptocurrency is a new aspect many are still learning amd for that only a few people owns it and even use it for transaction. It's value is not much of importance compared to fiat as we can only use it over the internet. The fact that fiat is more accessible to everyone and is widely accepted is a big factor against Bitcoin which is why more people would rather use it. One day, people would appreciate the structure of Bitcoin and see its worth. For now it is a good investment but in terms of usage I would have to agree and favor fiat more.

since bitcoin transaction fees too high for some users, i think use fiat is the best choice, except you need transaction and only bitcoin that allowed. and about risk, bitcoin is digital money with high risk, but also at same times you can earn profit for passive income if bitcoin price grows up.

If I had a lot of money today, let’s say $1.000.000, I would prefer to have it in fiat money than in bitcoins. This being said, if I had that amount, I would invest some, between 5% and 25% in bitcoin and maybe some other cryptos.

it is a surprised to everyone because you are saying "have" paper money. but the follow up doesn't make sense to it.

we all rather "have" bitcoin and more of it. at least those of us who understand what bitcoin is. but we all rather "use" fiat at the moment because of the costs of spending bitcoin.
and lets be honest here, how much have you been spending bitcoin last month that fees were low or all the 8 years before it that fees were low?

At the moment is the key phrase. If I wanted to use something as a currency right now, which is what OP seems to want to do, I'd choose fiat in a heartbeat too. We have to admit that Bitcoin is under a crisis right now with the ridiculously high fees. It's barely usable, again, at the moment.

Majority of people here are either in it for investments or the technology though, in which case, the fees aren't a big deal. You don't have to pay a fee to HODL after all. That's unfortunately pretty much all Bitcoin is good for at the moment, at least until we get significant Segwit adoption and the Lightning Network.

Bitcoin is not successful or popular as a currency. It is more popular as an asset or investment. People have confidence and trust on it as a good return giving investment. Digital currencies needs some infrastructure setup. Fiat money is the most flexible, convertible and easiest tool setting a transaction. That is why still today every country has its own physical currency. Fiat currencies centralised nature affecting those who are dealing in currency markets not to those who are using it in day to day transaction. So we rather use paper money than bitcoin currency.

It is true that paying small transaction with BTC is not cost effective currently, especially if you do not use SegWit to reduce fees. But you are looking at this situation from the viewpoint of user who want you use BTC for daily payment, but for me BTC is more then that and I look it as very valuable asset and also as currency for future.Things will become much better with wide application of SegWit and I hope in near future Lightning Network.

In my opinion converting BTC to fiat is not smart move considering potential that BTC will have in the future, but I can understand that there are people who need BTC for everyday needs. It would be ideal in that situation to convert some % to fiat and keep some BTC for the future.

I definitely understand where you're coming from... When the average Bitcoin user tries to make a transaction and suddenly sees that he would have to pay 20 or 30 dollars worth of BTC in fees, it's understandable that they'd rather use fiat.

I don't care too much about these higher fees, I'm already using Segwit addresses, which reduces the amount of fees I have to pay, and I don't mind waiting an hour for confirmations, so I usually add a lower fee anyway.
Even when using 150 satoshis/byte, my transactions get through eventually.

I agree with this one. I rather have a bitcoin than US dollar because of its capability of making profits while holding. Moreover, if I have a bitcoin, I can just cash out any time I wanted to (disregard that high fee of transaction). But, when it comes to spending and using an actual currency in the real world, I will prefer fiat because the real world requires something tangible like paper bills.

Isn't this obvious? Bitcoin cannot replace the fiat system,as fiat doesn't require a fee for transferring money between hands, its the intermediaries that require so. Y'all love crypto for the main reason which is nothing but volatility, all the other features are just present so that people can prove themselves how "loyal" they are to crypto, and how well they "love" them. Reality has always been a bitch to human eyes, and it continues to do so,just wait until someone opens it to you. So knock knock, mister. The argument for the winner between fiat and bitcoin can go on and on,fiat does has the upper hand,no matter what, for the fight will be between billions vs a few millions.

It's a good idea to hold both.   The major hassle (for me) with fiat, especially USD is that you need to trade it in constantly when they retire the older versions or bills.   This is for when you are storing cash outside of the US (in the US, it's not a big deal because you can use still use 80's and 90's bills with no problems for the most part).   But outside of the US, it gets to the point where even banks will not exchange them for you into other currencies.   I know, it sounds like 'a problem I'd like to have' but it indeed can be a time consuming labor when the amounts involved get higher.

The most important feature of a currency is that it be a stable store of value. This credo, ably explained by Steve Forbes here (among many places), is vital for a developing country economy to attract the investment it needs. Even in developed countries, as John Tamny explained here on Forbes.com, a stable currency value is the key to investment because those who invest are expecting a stream of future earnings to earn back their investment plus some profit. Instability in currency values mean that an investor cannot accurately predict the value of those future earnings. This uncertainty makes investments less valuable; thus, less investment happens.

Paper money has its own advantage, they do not need a password :).At this point, it is also worth mentioning the threats that result from this technology. We live in an age when we are under surveillance at almost every step. Companies want to know about us as much as possible to be able to sell us as much as possible. Buying anything on the internet we give your data, we set up accounts, we collect dozens and even hundreds of passwords. All these portals, however, have one advantage. In the event that we forget the password to your account on a social network or in a bank, we can always click: "I do not remember the password" and receive a new one. In the case of our wallet, we do not have such a possibility.

We all need Fiat we wouldent be able to live without it and even the crypto community need Fiat as much as they like to deny it. Fiat is what makes crypto worth buying and selling because we all sell it for Fiat.
Sadly the whole idea of just using Crypto and getting away from a central bank will not happen for a very very long time. I doubt we will see it happen in our life time,  and the way Bitcoin has gone makes it even more unlikly to be used as an every day spending paper money.

While bitcoin is less effective for micro-payment, bitcoin is more suitable for investment and commodities.

IT is a matter of time and patience, we are slowly entering the digital era of payment and of course fiat might be really convenient in paying foods and transportation fees but still there will come a time where almost everything is cashless. It ain't now but it will come.

Cash is still easier to trade for goods and services than cryptos, but it's also more difficult to hide and move around and much easier to steal.

Fiat is easier to use, but that doesn't mean they are better. Cash tie you to a particular place, but bitcoin lives in the world where there is Internet. Cash is constantly getting cheaper and the bitcoin expensive. My opinion is that these currencies complement and not exclude each other. and if we measure in terms of security, profit and usability then Bitcoin is better than cash.

Paper money don't have any risk of decreasing in value rather than bitcoin. It's fixed and very reliable also it is regulated by the government so you don't have to worry of  waking up one day and your money will be gone. So far paper money is very liquid and easily use and putting them in a bank account will assure of return as what banking institution promise but crypto currencies is unpredictable and can lose its value anytime

There is truth in this one. I for one is spending fiat currency more than Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. There are lesser shops and stores accepting Bitcoin or cryptocurrency payments. Not to mention the high fees that are always coming in each and every transaction. Bitcoin is generally treated as a form of asset or investment right now. I am doing it that way. After all, the growth is really amazing so I guess people prefer it that way. Still, I hope Bitcoin core team will fix the hassles that come along with Bitcoin.

If you would have to choose to receive all your money(from salary, from friends&family, from selling things, from anything) in bitcoin or paper money of course we would all take the second option because you cant do much with bitcoin.

The most majority of people dont hold bitcoin to use it for paying everyday things(food, clothes, debts) . They keep it as an investment to earn profit for it. You dont have to keep bitcoin just to spend it, think that you can make some good profit from trading bitcoin or just keeping it in the wallet and after the price rises you can anytime exchange it for fiat and buy everything you want.

I would prefer to have bitcoin than paper money but because of the prevalent circumstances I have to keep paper currency more than bitcoin for daily uses.  Despite all the advantages of crypto currency i.e. easy holding; fast transactions; international easy payments; anonymity of holding; I have to keep paper money because only minority population knows how to keep; hold; transact; invest in crypto currency bitcoin etc.  But as I have to deal with the people who are in majority but are using paper money I can not deal with them with bitcoin because they will not accept it..  So I have to keep paper money.

Paper money is still essential for our spending and expenses. I prefer to save and invest in BTC since BTC has potential to grow my savings unlike in fiat. The returns I have in fiat is very very small as compared to BTC.

Its better to have a paper money than bitcoin.First of all bitcoin is not acceptable in all transaction. When you have paper money you can buy without hassle and definitely you can have it whenever you want it with less worries.

I would agree to you that its most important to have fiat rather than bitcoin but in my opinion you can put it to 50% - 50% so you have fiat for emergency and 50% bitcoin for investment

But cryptocurrency transactions are being improve, isn't transaction on the internet or other platforms ease your worries in transactions? Bitcoin makes it easy for us.

Bitcoin is unpredictable in price, it would go up high and suddenly go down. But you can own it if you wanted, but for me the best idea that i've been doing right now is, having a fiat currency and a bitcoin investment in my bitcoin wallet. Checking my bitcoin price and spending a fiat money in everyday living from a bitcoin that i've been investing.

Bitcoin, I think crypto currencies in general have become an investment.
Just look at all those ICOs. They are all brought up and advertised in a way that people who buy it now will get more money for the coins later. That is pure investment.
And an investment usually has not that much practical use. Gold for example. No supermarket will accept it. People have to take the detour over fiat more and more often again.

As of right now, I'd rather be using fiat money for everything I need. Bitcoin is still relatively new, yes a lot of people have heard of it, but how many of them are holding it or know anything about it?
Fees are the problem as of right now but surely there might be developed some separated blockchain for market and faster transactions and smaller fees, that would later on, outside of working hours, be implemented into the original blockchain.

I've converted plenty of fiat to bitcoin and bitcoin to fiat and bitcoin to gold, etc. etc.    They are all friends as far as I'm concerned and I care very deeply for all three.

I can not use Bitcoin as the usual money here in my country. Shops and restaurants do not accept crypto currency and I have to exchange it for ordinary paper  money. Thats why Bitcoin and fiat have different purpose for me. Bitcoin is an investment and a source of income.

Fiat is our easiest form of currency it has been in place for a long time and there is nothing difficult about using it. Bitcoin on the other hand does have a learning curve for new people to understand with keys and understanding of it price volatilities. Transaction fees are an issue that can be resolved.
That is actually the reason why there are still more people that is still prefer to used fiat or paper money on their transaction. We could not break the system of fiat because it is much more easy to used in terms of transaction on daily basis where there is a tangible representation on each value you have or the money system. Yet, Bitcoin could be more efficient to used on the future because more people will surely prefer to used an easier and faster way for transaction on other people regardless the distance, location or the reason of transaction.

Bitcoin is like a new girlfriend.  I have to give her attention every single day.    Fiat is like my wife, who needs some attention, but not so much.   Gold is like (well, this is just an example, because I actually bought a house near where my mother lives so I can visit her often) a mother who you can basically just call once a year to say Merry Christmas, because you know that the value isn't changing much and will be pretty much the same.

I love crypto but there a still a ton of problems wit husing it in real life.  The transaction fees first of all can be very high on certain coins.  Then look at how many retailers even accept cryptos? It's not very many even online.  Then you have to worry about the major volatility. With all that I still love the new tech of crypto but it has a long way to go to be improved upon.

As of the moment, paper money is more liquid compared to bitcoin. Banks nowadays have a difficult time distinguishing what bitcoin is and do not see it as a currency. On the other hand, having paper money is being accepted all through out the world. Bitcoin is still on the verge being regulated by some countries. For example, there is this news wherein an airport is converting to be cryptocurrency friendly where they would be accepting Bitcoin and other alts as payment for coffee, tickets etc. Apparently, people go into bitcoin thinking that they would make profits due to the volatility of its value. Having paper money would have a more stable price. Having a physical currency is accepted and more realistic for other individuals compared to bitcoin being a speculation for some people.

It's very simple, bitcoin is now simply impossible to spend on ordinary things - going to a cafe or shop, paying a taxi or utilities. We will be able to use as usual currency not earlier than in 5-7 years. At least this applies to my country.

Plus for the fact that if i was to have bitcoin right now, I'd be paying a very high amount in fees if I wanted to actually end up using this money.

In terms of our country, bitcoin is not that popular and commonly used the reason a lot of stores or merchants do not really accepts bitcoin so there is nowhere to spend some of my saved bitcoins which I think can give me a positive effect because I can save them instead of spending them. Still, in times like this, I can say that I will pick paper money than bitcoin if we are talking the acceptance in our place.

Bitcoin has seen a lot of action during the past few months. There has been huge volatility in the price, and there are many people that are investing in it without knowing what it really is. I think in the begging, it was people who were idealistic and investing in it long term. But then it became about people who are just putting money on it simply for the fact the price has been rising.
I think what really makes paper money safer than Bitcoin is the fact that governments can ban it (to a great extent). (The price was going to continue rising, but I think that announcements from governments about possible regulations are the reason why prices aren't rising like that anymore.)
That's probably the reason why fiat money would be preferred by many over Bitcoin.

Yes we do have different preferences and different reason to have such a particular currency. I think the reason why you prefer paper money is that you want a fix value to keep for yourself and you do not give a damn on moving price assets like bitcoin. I think it is the time for you to study the blockchain technology to change your way of thinking towards this topic.

As the matter of fact also felt that way I prefer fiat at our current state but that is the trick because in our current state fiat money is still a necessity we are not yet a cashless society we are just on the way there but I know that someday people like us will have a change of heart towards fiat and we will switch into digital currency because in the near future digital currencies will overthrow fiat thus creating at opening for cashless society. It is true that you will be paying a tax just to use the money in your online wallet(e.g. MEW) but you will earn more here in bitcoin than in real life.

Bitcoin is not accepted everywhere so I am not surprised that you don't won't to use it instead of USD. However, it is a matter of time before Bitcoin will be widely accepted. Transactions fees have gone down a little but we are still far from replacing credit card and fiat with Bitcoin. I will switch to cryptocurrencies right after they become acceptable in the vast majority of shops. I have already put all my life savings into cryptocurrencies because I believe that they can't be stopped.

Not only you but everyone who are using bitcoin are in this field are facing and thinking like you but they are not ready to leave bitcoin at any condition because here we should make ourself to avoid from any type of the non reasonable transaction .
Now it is a time for us to do work perfectly to avoid himself from the fee system that is high .
Make less no. Of Transaction as much as possible secondly use bech segwit address instead to use direct btc wallet adress started from 3 .
And also here we should have positive thinking that is segwit 2x will result into fee to more than half and that will result into low of fee in bigger .

I think bitcoin can be regarded as a conceptual currency, as a conceptual currency bitcoin can be seen as the same as the RMB and the credit currency. If the credit currency is a banknote, that bitcoin is a currency symbol similar to a banknote.

Yes. This is actually right. People here will actually say that bitcoin is the best and it might replace fiat but in reality they use fiat money more than bitcoin. It is because bitcoin is not yet accepted by the majority. That's why bitcoin lovers tend to blend in the society so they could fit in and survive. But the thing is, we shouldn't compare bitcoin to fiat because they have their own functions and roles, in my opinion.

At heart, people still love fiat, and I do too.   When you see btc lose 130 Billion in value, it's not because people are moving out of btc into other coins, they are moving/converting their coins back into Dollars, Euros, Yen, Yuan, etc. etc.   People still set goals to be worth 1,, or 10,, or 100,,, dollars.   We don't set goals saying, I want to be worth 500 or 1000 btc.

If I had a lot of money today, let’s say $1.000.000, I would prefer to have it in fiat money than in bitcoins. This being said, if I had that amount, I would invest some, between 5% and 25% in bitcoin and maybe some other cryptos.

Nowadays cash is still king.

And I would strongly advise that you exchanged majority of it into gold and yes, keep some smaller fraction in crypto as you suggest. Fiat money has been known to disappear in a matter of single days - it will become invalidated the moment it is broadcasted by the government. Gold, on the other hand, has persevered millennia.

Bitcoin has reached great heights of success but still I would prefer fiat currency or paper currency over bitcoin because firstly, paper currency is way more popular than bitcoin and paper currency also has way more users than bitcoin has. Then more people trust paper currency than people trust bitcoin. Paper currency is also regulated by government because of which it is stable whereas bitcoin is not regulated by any government or bank because of which bitcoin is not stable.

The reason why bitcoins is better that fiat is that, cryptocurrency is growing in the market while fiat needs to be placed on the bank in order for it to grow and that is the reason why banks are losing their profit, its because there are more people who are interested on investing in bitcoins.

Most people who invest in the Bitcoin market are looking to make a profit, and convert that profit into paper money for everyday living. You want the original paper money before then to bitcoin, I think quite right. We live and earn money to meet our daily needs, first of all we have to have paper money to meet our needs in life, then left over to buy bitcoin to make a profit, because now bitcoin Purchases can not be made in some countries. So bitcoin is not worth the daily life like paper money.

I know that bitcoin is partnered by fees, not all people love fees and not all people is for bitcoin. The different of paper money to bitcoin is that bitcon is an investment. Its not meant for daily transactions. I know there is only fees, when you cash in and cash out.

For the purposes of day-to-day transactions, fiat money is much better than bitcoin. In my opinion, bitcoin is better for investment, not for everyday transactions.
Yes for now bitcoin is better for investing rather than using as a currency because in future the price of bitcoin will get too expensive so at that time we can use our bitcoins until that keep holding.
As what we always looking forward that would happen to bitcoin to keep its status stronger and continue to soar high. And because of this characteristic it attracts more and more investors which also makes bitcoin preferable rather than paper money as a investment. But since bitcoin is not yet legally used as a mode of payment we need to convert it into fiat.

You are aware that the fees in altcoins are currently lower because those altcoins are not even closely as successful as bitcoin, especially in terms of a number of transactions. The moment the number of transactions for the altcoin reaches the number of transaction in peaks for bitcoin (like the december peak, for instance), the fees will be similarly high too.

Well you seem to be forgetting that bitcoin is extremely volatile. Though you can get more money when the value is high, haven't you considered crashes, just like the recent one that happened? I'm.nit preferring one over the other because i'd prefer to have a variety of options.

Fiat is our easiest form of currency it has been in place for a long time and there is nothing difficult about using it. Bitcoin on the other hand does have a learning curve for new people to understand with keys and understanding of it price volatilities. Transaction fees are an issue that can be resolved.
I agree to you that, fiat is our first and easiest form of currency where accpetable in all different kind of transactions and we all know that it will last forever. The reason why I would rather to have fiat than bitcoin is the price because the price of bitcoin is volatiles and there is a chance that it will crush your money but I hope it would not happen.

You must have a paper money rathrer than bitcoin because it is more convenient than digital currency like bitcoin because every where you can use paper money and bitcoin you can only use on selected online shops and for purchasing selected items only. But practically speaking if you have  a paper money that is great. But when you have bitcoin it is much better than paper money when we talk about value you have more advantage in terms of bitcoin. We do not have to choose between paper money and bitcoin when can you have this both on your own hand.

We should accept the truth that paper money is the most convenient to use than Bitcoin in which we could use it instantly anywhere in the community unlike Bitcoin in which we could only use it in the establishment that will accept Bitcoin and it will need the power of internet in every transaction. For me, Bitcoin is just for investment only so that we could earn more fiat for our future spending.

I better think that bitcoin is investment instrument. Paper money is for transaction in daily basis is I think its very different for me. For daily transaction, off course better using paper right now, but for investment bitcoin last year give more than 1000% gain.

It is normal to value paper money rather than crypto since we use it everyday that is why crypto people consider crypto currencies as their investment and not for daily use because of course of the high fees. Since this thread was posted a month ago already, there were changes on the fees recently and it was much lower cost as far as I know unless there'll be some traffic again in the blockchain which means increase in the transaction fees. Let's just face the fact the crypto is more profitable than investing your fiat on banks, mutual funds and time deposits so if you value fiat feel free to invest it somewhere else that you're sure to earn just don't expect high returns that crypto can give you.

$100 in your pocket or bank account a years ago would be worth $97 today. $100 five years ago is worth about $75 today. Even with interest on bank deposits, it largely does not keep up with the inflation rate.
Now how much would that same $100 in bitcoin 5 years ago be worth today? I haven't done the math but I'm sure it would be some serious change. Bitcoin gains might be decreasing percentage-wise as time goes on, but far outstrips value of fiat/paper currency. I'll hold on to my Bitcoin.

Very interesting discussion, and the arguments actually reflect on the validity in terms of whether or not the BTC is accepted in particular places. Is it not true? that in the back of your mind, a shadow of doubt is lurking, doubt that coincides with the unstability or uncertainty of the BTC and the cryptocurrency realm? and this would all be linked with whether or not majority of the population, particularly the proper organizations and authority and how they treat BTC. So part of this premise would include the acceptance of the BTC. Because if its entirety (the BTC), is accepted, all its aspects, like being accepted as a currency (features of a FIAT), then you would prefer both. Good luck, I hope you will find the right currency for you, in relation to the level of acceptance.

The thoughts you say are the same as others think. Paper money (fiat) is definitely something everyone has, another thing with bitcoin that maybe only 7 out of 10 people own and use it. In fact, although bitcoin prices are higher than banknotes but in terms of their use are still inferior to paper money. The reason why it happens because bitcoin is still digital money and to do transactions must go through various processes, especially for the payment of daily necessities such as food, drinks, clothes etc. It's very difficult to pay it using bitcoin.

We are free to use what is more convenient for us and if you think paper money/fiat is way better for spending than any cryptos then so be it coz we are not oblige by anyone to use it as currency or as an asset. The unstable price is also the reason why majority of users are treating it as an investment opportunity although it was not design for that purpose. Currently I think btc is not effective as currency because of the high fees and slow transactions that we are encountering and it should be resolve first if lightning network implementation is already present.

The reason why people are investing on cryptocurrency is because they are all hoping to earn profit when the value of their coins will increase on the market. There is no reason for you to invest on bitcoins if you are wealthy since most of the people are turning into trading because they earn more profit in this kind of industry.

Paper money and cryptourrency both of them are useful at Thier place , at one side bitcoin like cryptourrency are better for passive income and at another side cryptourrency have problems of confirmation of the transaction and can be handle only in online .
Similarly we can take many factors in favour of cryptourrency and in Fiat .
Here no doubt that if we will have cryptourrency then we have better economical life and at another side if we wil have Fiat then that can be use in offline at every place but everywhere we can't use cryptourrency Because only a small population is using bitcoin like things .
But most of the favourable conditions is going with the bitcoin Because with bitcoin our earnings increasing , and if you will ask about the fee system then I don't think that there is anything big Because we have many options to down the fee like to use segwit wallet .

We all need fiat money right now since Bitcoin is not recognized by many as currency. But it doesn't mean that it will forever be. We cannot predict the future. All we can do is prepare for the future. So if you truly believe that cryptocurrencies are the future money, then you must prepare yourself and start buying Bitcoin.

What is that for logic? Bitcoin doesn't need to be recognized or legalized by any country in order to have stores accept it as payment form. As long as nothing prevents you from accepting it, nothing can stop you from using it.

If we go by your logic, and Bitcoin would indeed need to be recognized or legalized, we would probably not even have 2% of the current number of merchants accepting Bitcoin as payment form, think about that.

Fiat payment services offer more adoption and convenience at this point, but that's just a matter of time before Bitcoin is going to close that gap. That's the main purposes and point if this thread.

Firstly, I would not necessarily agree that this makes Bitcoin better than fiat money, I think this makes Bitcoin different or unique. Whether this is better than fiat is more of an ideological or economic theory type of question, but being unique may be sufficient to ensure Bitcoin can have significant value.

For starters a lot of people are also thinking that way because of the advantages and the prod that this kind of things provide. Paper money provides security and this are things that are not replaced no matter how high the value of bitcoin or any other cryptocurrency for that matter. FYI, “fiat currency” is any national currency decreed legal by the national government, but is intrinsically valueless money. Fiat currencies no longer represent gold deposits or other things of known market value. They are just the accepted pieces of national paper, printed by a private central bank and loaned to the national government, with interest. All fiat currencies are debt instruments.

Yeah me too. Fiat money is way more important than crypto. Since I d not have both, I will try to gain profit from many types of job. Ye, that's true. While flat in terms of investment remains stable for long time and even it goes up, you would probably get like 5% - 10% from your capital (not something that really worth) When Bitcoin would be used as payment gateway to buy food or your daily goods, do you ever think about the fee? Bitcoin fees are currently very high.
Bitcoin’s advantages are built into the technology, that can be amended or updated through the protocol, and are built to stand the test of time.

Yes bitcoin should be more like online currency and will not replace fiat currency as this will never be digested with the government and bankers we need to educate people about the bitcoin and it's benefits.

At the moment yes. But what you think about tomorrow? These things cryptocurrency will overcome. Everything is just in the development phase as the whole technology is still young. In future, I don't see FIAT money.

Paper money is more traditional and stable compared to digital currency or specifically, cryptocurrency. Being open for this new trend was also good for you can gain bigger profit if you just know how to manage it. That is why before engaging in cryptos, you must have to knowledge about it.

You are just being practical. I applaud you for being so honest. Because the US fiat value is fixed and stable. The value of the fiat you were holding is the same value you can use to buy anything. As to what i've learned here, bitcoin is not a currency and will never will be because of it's volatility.

Everybody has an environment he lives in. If bitcoin is not accepted in that environment, then only possessing cryptocurrencies will be problematic. You can't pay for your everyday life under those circumstances. That is why having some of the local fiat is always somthing we should consider. We can't expect that other people will accept our preferred payment method.

Paper money is acceptable in all establishments as a payments of goods and services. While bitcoin is not acceptable in any other establishment, it needs to be converted into paper money so that it will become usable. Just like my country right now bitcoin was not totally accepted by government.

Because Bitcoin can only buy and sell on the internet, it may be necessary all the time, but there are very few people who can go out and do some shopping with Bitcoin, so I need paper money so my idea is soon that all sellers will buy Bitcoin wallet and start to trade with Bitcoin as if approaching.

I also personally prefer paper money instead of bitcoin. As you have said, there are so many fees just to convert bitcoin to paper money. But for convenience purposes, it's better to use bitcoin for transferring huge amount of money right? It can also be used worldwide (depending on country if they allowed it though). But we have our different opinions, we can use bitcoin for investments but i prefer having large amount of paper money than bitcoin, due to uncertainty in prices eventhough it increases almost everyday.

Well that's your choice. It is just a matter of perspective. Other people are using Bitcoin because it is not only a currency but also a good asset or investment for being profitable due to thecontinuous increase on its value for a long run. That's the biggest advantage of Bitcoin compared to fiat that are having a stable market price. The only issue on cryptos right now is the legalization and hoping that in the future it will be solved.

Just like you, I would rather have paper money than bitcoin as of now because as you can see the bitcoin's value can dropped anytime while the paper money or fiat is not. Fiat is surely can be used for transactions while bitcoin can only be used for limited transactions and as the matter of fact, it is banned in some countries. If I have bitcoin right now, probably I will turn it into cash so I can use it anytime and anywhere.

If you are earning a huge amount of bitcoins on cashing out then why bother to reduce a small amount of fiat on your transaction fee. Cryptocurrency payment method will be only efficient on paying a huge amount of bills if the transaction fee is really bothering you.

This thinking is exactly why you are poor and will remain poor.  Fiat is a debt based currency and is always losing value.  It's designed to lose value but not to fast. Don't want to spook the sheep or make the frog jump out of the pot.  Investing in assets that don't lose value and you will always come out ahead in a debt based system.

It totally depends how you look towards bitcoin either a type of currency or an investment. Anyways on a day to day life people aren't gonna go and buy higher priced good and would like to use crypto-currencies and in a day to day life people spend money, not heavy priced commodities but on low to medium priced commodities and there is where you would need fiat money because using bitcoin there would not be a very good idea according to me atleast I wouldn't.

However, it still have disadvantages that may affect our transactions. For me, since it is used only with the presence of internet then, it will our transactions. Some may not still embrace this kind of change and still prefer the use of paper money. Lots of circumstances may occur. Like when the internet is not available, bitcoin will not be accessible. So I still prefer the safer means which is the use of paper money.

I think right now it is ideal to use fiat more over bitcoin because as we all know bitcoin is not yet widely accepted. With that you have less establishments than can give you service in exchange of your bitcoin. Maybe in the future when bitcoin becomes more adapted and accepted we can finally use it well.

I guess i would have t agree with you on that. For the current situation, bitcoin having super huge fees and long transaction confirmation, it wont be the currency of choice. If we mean it for our daily needs, fiat would still be number one on that. Not to mention not all merchants accepts bitcoin for payment.that makes it all the more difficult with day to day transactions. But for future needs or investment, id still have to choose bitcoin.

I prefer paper money compare to bitcoin in only term of spending because when i will spend bitcoin on a store for example, it will require me to pay extra money aside from the tax included in the item for the fee of the miners to complete my transaction while in paper money i will pay smooth without paying for extra fee for miners because all i need to do is to hand over the cash.

Physical money ain't going up but Bitcoin's value and other cryptocurrency does. It's your choice anyways but this is my opinion about this. Having Bitcoin is a good investment because of its shocking price as you hold it and let the years pass. You can also pay someone with this Bitcoin currency and some shop online accept Bitcoin as a payment for what they bought. It's our own decision after all if we can multiply our money either in physical form or in virtual form. In the end we all benefit in either of the two.

Bitcoin is a virtual currency, a leader and the hands down considered king in the cryptocurrency market. Having bitcoin means that you are opening yourselves to investments and excessive oportunities on taking risks and being able to free yourself from the shackles of loss cause and minimal income. Having bitcoin means that you are more inclined to have financial flexibility. Paper money is less volatile and it might be to the benefit of some people in regards to this

Yeah, you're right there are some reason why paper money is more beneficial than bitcoin but there is something on bitcoin which paper money don't have like high volatility rate. Bitcoin is not for everyone, they say and its true, if you cannot appreciate the use of bitcoin then don't use it, use paper money instead. We are almost there with having Crypto Debit cards and that will be the perfect solution to the problem you pose. They are still sorting out licensing and provider issues at the moment but the proper launch can't be too far away. Then you spend FIAT anywhere you see Mastercard or Visa symbol and it gets converted to crypto and deducted from your wallet all without any tx fees. It's a clean and simple solution.

This is why Bitcoin is often regarded as an investment for many times. Many people think that the transaction cost of bitcoin is too expensive. As a trading currency, this is a fatal flaw. The transaction speed is slow and affects both parties' time.

Every currency system has some advantages for the people and at the same time they have certain limitations as well. The major disadvantage of fiat currency system according to my opinion is that it has more time wastages in processes globally as well as locally.

World is getting competitive day by day, so it is better not to waste time while standing in the queue and do something productive in that time and that’s what bitcoin is offering.

If you want to have stability, currency you can easily spend, no problems with withdrawals, exchanges and so on - ofcourse the FIAT currency would be better. The Bitcoin seem to go up and down all the time. Today you can buy a car for bitcoing, tomorrow only half of it.. But generally, you can put some part of your money just as long-term investment. Every year it beats new records in value, usually in autumn. The easies way is to buy after winter-fall and sell in autumn (as a simpliest strategy). Ofcourse holding most of your money in bitcoin is a very high risk.

For them, paper money is still a priority. Why, for example, the US does not use the yen or the Euro along with the dollar. That makes no sense. That would weaken the country's economy. Cryptocurrency is not able to completely replace paper money. In contrast, it does not have a valid value. Paper money is protected by banks from depreciation.

I disagree with you. Paper money has long to be eliminated. But they are beneficial for corrupt officials and for this reason remain in use. Many opponents of bitcoin talk about its anonymity and the possibility of being used for criminal purposes. But they do not say that you need to start fighting with cash. Bitcoin cannot replace national currencies, but it can and should be used as an asset for savings. It's easier than keeping money in banks.

Fiat money is easier to use in everyday transactions. If for the reason of daily transaction convenience, fiat money is the best, but when it comes to profit, bitcoin is the best of fiat money.

For payment purposes and easiness then you are right. Bitcoin is too complicated to use to nost people. But atleast in my country we have our own local exchange so that we can convert it to fiat as easy as you might think ;D

And one thing to remember, bitcoin is money too. You can buy anything with it eventhough some requires to be converted to fiat first

Fiat money is being used by everybody in our everyday life for transaction, bitcoin is an alternative payment method for sending/receiving transactions online and still only few know how to use it. Bitcoin can be use for a long term investment by just holding it in your wallet unlike fiat money which is fix value.

Holding fiat or crypto is a matter of preference and choice. I understand the issue because there is no mass adoption hence it can be frustrating to use your BTC in certain situations without converting to paper money. However, you can have some for trading and as an investment and hold fiat for everyday use.

Well, it your own choice and no one force you to use bitcoin, if you think it's not or you and you have a hard time to it then it's okey. We all know bitcoin's price value is fluctuating meaning it's uncertain and if it brought you fear then there nothing bitcoin can do for you, you just have to accept the reality.

Also, you still need to convert your bitcoin, or you still need to cash out our bitcoin to use it for your daily expenses, I know that you can’t use your bitcoin to buy some things in the store or supermarket. But the good thing about bitcoin is you can use it to purchase or transact with anyone that using it anonymously.  :)

the answer is that it cannot be debased, nor controlled by any person or privileged group of people. It is money that derives its price from the market (voluntary exchange) instead of by coercion and force. Thus, it is both a better store of wealth, and also more ethical, transparent, and honest.

You are right, those governments are really stealing a huge amount of money on their people and they are in a huge advantage for us because they all have access on our banks and they can monopolize the system as well for their own interest's good thing is that cryptocurrency does not have tax.

Bitcoin is not yet widely used and accepted, it is still new and only the techie people knows  it well. It depends on what you want to use it for, because only a few merchants accepts bitcoin. The good thing about bitcoin is that it is transparent to government and difficult for them to control and access it. Some people look at it as an investment, a way of getting wealthy fast, but while it may be profitable, it is a commodity and can go down in value as easily as go up.

There are so many disadvantages about using physical cash like you can be robbed and you need to always bring your wallet, another thing is that, the value of fiat is not increasing so basically you need to work hard to earn it, while invest on cryptocurrency is already a big thing because the prices is growing as the time goes by.

It is extremely decent that bitcoin exchanges is not that easy to trace and the clients are being unknown however its exchange charges are extremely costly. And furthermore fiat cash is extremely adaptable in all exchanges. It is disappointing to have bitcoins and not ready to utilize it and spend it for day by day needs

Your sentiments are understandable and correct. If you'll be converting your money to bitcoin and use bitcoin for transactions it's not advisable, transaction fees will kill you.

But if you bought bitcoin for you to profit out of it then it's a different story. I bought bitcoin so I could do trading and earn from it. I rarely use bitcoin as a payment transactions because I find it more epxensive.

Because paper money is much more secured than using bitcoins especially if you are not that techie guy because it is hard to cope up into that thing because not all stores are accepting bitcoins as you paynent so it is really hard for us to use bitcoins and we need to convert it into cash instead after having that in order to buy things that we wanted. And the fact that the bitcoins are volatile so you better knew that your money can lessen if the overall price in the market falls so if you dont want that better stick with cash.

Even in the age of credit and debit cards, paper is still widely used. Because like credit cards, cryptocurrency has their limits. Not everyone accepts these digital representation of money.

I favor paper money contrast with Btc in just term of spending since when I will spend Btc on a store for instance it will expect me to pay additional money beside the duty incorporated into the thing for the charge of the miners to finish my exchange while in paper money I will pay smooth without paying for additional expense for miners since I should simply to hand over the cash.

Bitcoin has a fluctuating value, it will grow up and sometime it will crush your money.

True, that is why it has become more of an investment than a currency in which it was intended to. Bitcoin now is primarily used for trading and holding and altcoins with lower values have played the part of the currency for payment for these transactions and services online.

Plus for the fact that if i was to have bitcoin right now, I'd be paying a very high amount in fees if I wanted to actually end up using this money.

of course you should choose paper money than bitcoin for daily use purpose, because it is easy use and accepted anywhere. Technically, bitcoin is not a currency (exchange tool), it is more like investment commodity that has value for exchange currency.

Actually it depends on the people what they prefer on holding, the reason why most of the people are preferring to invest on cryptocurrency is because of the price in the market of bitcoins that keeps on increasing as the time goes by and because of that, you are assured that you can really earn profit.

Bitcoin is a good thing but you cannot hold it or use it in daily transactions. However, bitcoin has a capability of becoming a good source of income. This income can be converted to fiat cash. You do not need to transact in bitcoin every day, just make it as an investment,

You got it right there. Honestly, i am not that knowledgeable about bitcoin yet so I don't like to do harsh decisions. I need to read more and research more to make the right decisions so i wont regret in the end.

Paper money or fiat money usually used in different countries. It is usually used to buy daily products, pay bills, etc. Usually bitcoin cant used to pay bills in some shops, so you need to convert it first for you to pay your bills.

It depends, some people believe in paper money, some people stocks, and some people in bitcoin. It's all about trusting the company, and where you putting your money in.

I also preferred using fiat currency in everyday life rather than bitcoin. The reason is that for me using digital currency is very risky and the security issues are arising every now and then, bitcoin is a hot target for hackers around the globe. I rather use something that i can hold physically and have assurance that i am holding it in real life.

Well that is your decision and if that is what you will prefer then that's fine, however since I do not have any plans to use my bitcoin and instead I'm just saving it then I prefer to have my bitcoin instead, I know that I'll be able to use fiat more easily but with bitcoin I grow my wealth something that is impossible to do with fiat and in fact the opposite happens you lose your purchase power every day by inflation

At the moment I also have this opinion. So most of the products you buy only for paper money and so it will be a long time. Not all people, especially those over 50, easily understand this all.

Well it is true that fiat is better to have than bitcoin in terms of usability since you always have it in your hand. But bitcoin is like another source of income that can also be used to pay as substitute to paper money or store as investment to earn profit. For me I consider bitcoin as investment and if I need fiat then I just convert it and use it.

Many people will surely choice paper money than bitcoin it is because paper money is a sure money and has a constant value or price. Some people are also thinking that if they have bitcoin instead of paper money they might lose or decrease their money. We all know that bitcoin price or value can increase or decrease in a blink, unlike with the paper money which price or value move in a blink. Well there are also a lot of advantage of using paper money such as it is acceptable in big or small transactions, payment for all industry. Still we will be back to the basics of this culture which are using what is the traditional way of payment which is the use of paper money.
