Title: Will Bitcoin Experience More Price Volatility in 2018?
Post by: EvaGC on January 05, 2018, 01:31:50 PM
by David Drake

In 2017, Bitcoin recorded the most unprecedented gains, making it the most sought after cryptocurrency in the market. As a result, most people are buying Bitcoin for speculative purposes with the hope of cashing on price increases.

Having risen to a high of nearly $20,000 in mid December, Bitcoin experienced high volatility towards the end of 2017, raising the question of whether its price could plunge to below $10,000. But as HOQU's Co-Founder and CEO, Alex Shmonov notes, high volatility is nothing new to Bitcoin.

"The price of Bitcoin has always been very volatile even on fake news as many people buy this asset for the sake of speculation and profit. The reality is that the entire crypto market can flop by 90% and this will be normal. We saw this with Bitcoin before. But after some time and after the dust has settled, prices will return to new heights, because progress will go further and people will understand that the problems that caused the drop are resolved or almost solved," he says.

Even so, certain factors fuel the volatility of Bitcoin, and one such factor is government statements on cryptocurrency regulation. On Thursday 28th of December, 2017, Bitcoin prices plunged by the double digits following the announcement of fresh regulations in the world's third largest cryptocurrency market, South Korea. Going by the trend set by this southern peninsula, there’s no doubt that more price swings in the cryptocurrency market will follow.

"The volatility in the price action mirrors the uncertainty in world regulation. Each positive statement from a country or exchange sees a boost in the Bitcoin price, and each proposed clampdown produces a price drop. Changes in regulation is the key price driver for Bitcoin and that won’t change in 2018. I think price volatility will increase this year, this will not be a time for the faint hearted. Reduce your exposure to price volatility by diversifying a little of your portfolio - now," says Linda Leaney, CFO at Globcoin.

According to Marcus Vandea, CEO of Playfold, Bitcoin has a highly volatile nature. But even with its price swings, it’ll be hard for its value to drop below the $10,000 mark.

"High volatility will always be an intrinsic part of Bitcoin, with 30% shifts that always happened but are now more noticeable because of its high value. It’s difficult to believe that Bitcoin will plunge below $10000, as it is now more popular and desired than ever. But extreme value swings will keep happening and will keep discouraging the light hearted investors," he says.

Bitcoin braved the turbulence in 2017, increasing its value from $1000 in January to reach a high of $19,700 in early December, before closing the year at about $14,000.

I agree with the part of high volatility is the intrinsic value of Bitcoin, couldn't agree more. Bitcoin is used as an investment ride these days, people are using Bitcoin price volatility to gain profit or loss  ;D. As long as Bitcoin is volatile, more and more people are going to know Bitcoin.

It seems it would require something to happen to suddenly soar again. It's been hovering at the 15k-16k range it was before it went to 20k.

Different people are speculating in different ways, but I think that if we want a healthy future for Bitcoins,it should remain stable at some point for some time, maybe 6 months and grow with stability. Because going higher too quick will only make others call it a bubble and we don't want such a great technology to get criticized for that part. I think it'll remain conscious between $15-25k and stabilize near last year's ATH - 20k.

I am not sure about the volatility of bitcoin that whether it will increase or decrease because considering all the factors which affects the volatility the conclusion is little bit confusing.

We have seen a remarkable change/oscillation of price within short time period when the price rises above $12K (major price dips observed, about $4000 in just in a single day) this shows that with the increase in price the volatility has also increased.
But now the scenario is little bit changed, bitcoin doesn't grow rapidly till now after the huge dip of 40-45% in the previous month, this opposed my first observation that i have stated above. This seems that we are not going to see this rapid increase without brakes in 2018.

I don't think it will experience more volatility in 2018 because as more money and market cap go into Bitcoin the volatility decreases. If we think the year will end at 50-60k bitcoin then by years end the volatility too will be less it simply has to be.

Gold is volatile, silver is volatile, the dollar as well. When you deal with a large amount a 1% decrease can represent a huge loss like it can represent a huge gain if it increases by 1%... Bankers at Saxo bank said in 2018 Bitcoin will reach $60,000 and then crash to what it should be: $1,000

Good question. I expect that in the next months a lot of people will jump in the cryptomarket, so probably there will be a lot of movement.
But this is ok because we can make a good profit.

Definitely BTC will be more volatile in 2018 as more people are jumping in it but on the other hand, central authorities are planning to regulate it. All these factors are going to affect BTC as well as other cryptocurrency in one way or another.

I expect so, knowing that new money has poured into bitcoin and more and more people are being lured into the gates of this cryptocurrency. Also, the general population of the traders nowadays seemed to have learned that they can maximize their profits by switching into different alts whenever it is down or up. With the number of traders increasing who switch their coins back and forth, the crypto world and not only bitcoin would be more volatile than ever.

:D  I like how conservative these projections and analysis are. OP's article reads like, the only thing said about bitcoin lately where people may be walking on eggshells as they're concerned about putting their reputation at risk. I feel like the author came on this forum, read what everyone was saying & rewrote general public opinion to come up with their article, avoiding the more controversial points. Its a well structured read from an english perspective, but there's nothing really new here and some of the points have a bit of spin applied to them.

I would be interested to know what people who write these articles really think about bitcoin without the politics, agendas and intrigue involved.

Definitely BTC will be more volatile in 2018 as more people are jumping in it on other hand govt also planning to regulate it one way or another.
Even if that is the case there is no concrete way for government to regulate it. There will always be loopholes on their regulations and there will always be unregulated exchanges where we can trade. Although that is the case, I agree that it will be more volatile this year as demand for Bitcoin as well as altcoins are increasing a lot lately and adoption rate is high ATM.  I expect unexpected price movements this year and I expect soe big bullish or bearish trends.

Hi, definitely, it is very likely that the BTC in 2018 will have an incredible increase in its price, because of the great demand it has, and a decrease due to the influence of the big shots.

It most likely will not. It has grown in market capitalization and even whales will find it difficult to move the market now. Moreover, with futures beginning to trade at 2 major exchanges, liquidity has only increased. There is a way for bears to short Bitcoin, which will result in less overall volatility. All the volatile action is beginning to shift to altcoins.

I don't see why you think there is going to be less volatility, if there is more adoption such a thing means an higher price, but also means bigger movements, when bitcoin was worth 10 dollars losing 30% meant losing 3 dollars, now with bitcoin at 17k losing 30% means losing 5k and if bitcoin reaches 50k in the future losing 30% means losing 15k.

I agree on this and additional thing is a lot of investors that are not tech savvy and some of them doubted cryptocurrency , called it scam and fraud are now joining the Bitcoin Community and loving the opportunities that Cryptocurrency gives. We can now say that Bitcoin's year is 2018 , it stil lgaining popularity on all different markets that leads to great demands.

Number of traders are up that is why some exchanges stop accepting new users because of the surge of volume. Anyway, bitcoin will still be more volatile this year because it was only on the last quarter of 2017 when more money flow in causing a surge in prices both in bitcoin and altcoins thus a rapid increase in market capitalization. Some countries are implementing some regulations so for those who are conservative who will always say that they will not be involve with cryptocurrencies because it is not regulated would invest into it.

More volatility? After a year previous that saw 50% rise and 50% drops in a mere matter of days? If anything teaches anyone about Bitcoin, it's that it cannot be relied on for any pattern except volatility. Personally, I am ready for a long, months-long, period of drought and sideways trading, if not a slow bearish pattern that will cast serious doubts on Bitcoin. This will lead up to actualy Segwit adoption/migration, and hopefully Lightning Network by end of the year. Mempool will continue to struggle, fees will continue to be high, all this will be the glass ceilings for Bitcoin to break.

Luckily, new money inflows and a steady stream of new alts will ensure Bitcoin is always in demand, so whatever bad news will attempt to break it this year will be held afloat by demand.

As the article says, the reality is that Bitcoin is as capable of 90% gains in a day as it is of 90% flash crash in 24 hours. It is as likely to be $100 as it is $1 million. Time will tell.

In crypto currency world we should always assume volatility because of past movement of prices but it just from the begining but now it seems that it start to stabilized or when it moves it will just pump up. Maybe the caused of this is due to investors trust .start to build up as crypto currency is in the stage of maturity.

Bitcoin will always be volatile, it's an aspect that gives Bitcoin its identity. It's been a week since 2018 started and as we can see, Bitcoin rates hasn't been stable in a sense that its rate varies from time to time.It will be high at a certain time then it will have a steep decline at another minute. The reason for this is unknown or there might not be any reason for it at all but this just goes to show that the volatility of Bitcoin can be extreme at times. This is expected and we should just put its volatility into good use for our benefits.

Indeed high volatility is nothing new to Bitcoin as the history itself is completely filled with huge spikes over the other ones.
Bitcoin attracted many eyes towards itself as it gained 19x times its initial price in the year 2017. Many big investors have now invested in BTC.
The price is now stable around $15k-$16k and it will surely increase more this year. There are chances that BTC will suffer a huge correction as the gain was too much last year but even if BTC faces the correction it won't decline more than the $10k target and will recover the decline very soon.

Volatility is an integral part of any currency. Bitcoin is more volatile than all other currencies. Because of this volatility bitcoin is becoming more and more popular. Bitcoin investors/investors are using this volatility to earn money from bitcoin currency. In 2018 bitcoin price will set a new price record. But however it does not mean it will become more volatile than now. More and more investments and more capital in bitcoin currency make it less volatile in future.

Some say that it will be hard to manipulate the market due high market cap,but I think that people who have lot of BTC increase their supply with time and also start to work together to move market in the desired direction. At the end of the day for most people involved in cryptocurrency the only thing that matters is profit.

Volatility on its price is a common phenomena in bitcoin, however Dec. 2017 have been so far the most volatile for btc. It sways some btc users while some remained holding their investments. It's true that the price will keep on changing from lows to highs but I also believe that bitcoin is a strong digital currency and will stay in the market for long time.

2017 is a major year and its something that would stand as a reference point for years to come and its because of the significant increase that happen to bitcoin and crypto currency despite the series of challenges that it faced in that year. From high fees, to fork issues, to network overload and series of onslaught from the media but it came out triumph.

However, the past is only for reference purpose and for 2018, I expect volatility but nothing compared to 2017 and its because of the following

1. The knowledge of bitcoin has circulated among a large percentage of the elite while a lot of them have taken their decision already much less are still indecisive about whether to get in or not. Unless new circle of the population is being penetrated, we might not see such high volatility like 2017.

2. The forks, in 2017, was a year the forks that happened contributed in no small way to the increment in the price of bitcoin but in 2018, we have lost count and even the ones lined up to happen in January, I dont know and this is happening to several others for us to change our decision based on forks.

.3. Regulations is 2018 is taking a more aggressive turn with banks turning back deposit, with exchange sites asking for extreme documents for KYCs, government stance being more pronounced, the penetration is being curtailed.

In all with all these challenges, I hope to see a stronger bitcoin with more basis to grow on by the end of 2018.

I agree volatility in bitcoin price is somewhat a natural phenomenon and will always remain in bitcoin even in the coming years this is one thing that makes bitcoin  popular and more valuable. Many speculations rise in the opening of 2018 and more of them believe that bitcoin will fluctuates and will become more appreciative this year rather then the previous year I also want to believe on that

It could be possible to happen, because I sense that there is a manipulation of prices in the market by the whales. Though they can't controlled the entire crypto community but they can certainly give a huge changes in the trend. It is something that, they take controlled the market price by using their money inside invested in  crypto.

No I think you are trending towards something different. There are so many people who are willing to invest in bitcoins. If you are just taking things up only because now a days prices are not going high and you are just supposing okay this will be the story of whole year.

So I think you must update your information that last year, prices were just nothing and at the end they were like rockets.

Volatility is one with digital currency so I think even a lot of year will pass, bitcoin and other digital currency will be always volatile, without it I think it will not attract a lot of investor. With a lot of people who still not know what bitcoin is, I think they can start to know it this year since it really hit the market hard and and a lot of people was given a lot and good profit, in that time the price will be really moving a lot.

We do not know, right now the price is down and it seems the price may remain there for some time but the volatility in bitcoin also creates opportunities for the price to go up very suddenly if we got a number of good news all coming at the same time we will probably get a pump but since we have seen and hear mostly bad news the price has dropped.

Bitcoin can completely fluctuate in price in 2018. It can develop strongly or it can decline. The number of people taking part in bitcoin is increasing. Making money from bitcoins is a lot harder than before. We must adhere to strict regulations from bitcoin.

I agree with your points regarding manipulation of those with large quantities of BTC, and how while many have said Market cap will act as a insulator to high volatility, we just arent there yet.

Bitcoin alone didn't broach $400 Billion (crypto as a whole hit $800 on it's peak). The Russel 3000 (basically all US Stocks) is roughly 30 Trillion. And we've seen (as we did in 2008), a market that is roughly 100 years old; tumble in half, literally with the Dow landing in the 6000 range. But look where it is now.

Bitcoin is basically like a large company in the overall stock market, that has grown so rapidly in such a short timespan, a correction was inevitable.

Long term, I think one would be foolish to think that Bitcoin is not here to stay. That it's user base will grow. That younger generations will accept it and embrace it, and that it will become a huge market force in the global economy.

Add to that, the next bitcoin halving.

To not think that Bitcoin has enormous growth potential would be foolish.

But as Lucius stated, there will be manipulation; especially considering how unregulated exchanges are, some allowing 100:1 leveraged trading (just reckless in my opinion); but with those types of margin allowances; a person with just 100 BTC has enormous power and market influence.

Once the market cap does grow larger, which it will; Bitcoin will reach $20,000 again, then $50,000, I believe well into the six figures, the only question, what day will that be; and introduce more regulation; or at least regulation which hampers reckless market trades, such as the 100:1 positions people make, I think we will see less volatility; increased adoption, and more companies, not just individuals seeing BTC for what it really is... a tool and technology which will change the world and the way money is used moving forward.

Bitcoin has already shown the highest volatility during last 30 days. Its price dropped down critically and caused a real panic. Now it will gradually go up, but I am waiting for its great pump very soon.

The ever increasing regulation from government , facebook, and instagram ads ban are factor that adds to the price volatility of altcoins particularly the bitcoin. It will continue to become volatile until it become normalize. But as of the moment all we can expect is continuous up and down price of Bitcoin.

The answer is really observable at this moment. Its market value early this year is indeed more volatile than it was before . It is continuously falling making its value in the market low. But I am still expecting that Bitcoin will be able to recover with this downfall . Just invest now if possible to earn huge profit as its value starts to rise eventually.

To anticipate whether bitcoin would experience more or less price fluctuations is just as hard as predicting whether bitcoin would increase or decrease in value tomorrow. It's just so difficult to lredict such occurences. But we could at least anticipate it by studying the market, and understanding bitcoin's nature.

Right you are. Bitcoin will constantly go up and down, and the smartest traders will go on earning a lot on this volatility.

Futures contracts over time will reduce the volatility of bitcoins. In addition, it is important that crypto coins will gradually begin to be recognized by many countries and there will be corresponding legislation regulating and protecting investors.

I believe Bitcoin volatility never changes, it is always wild but the extemity is probably more.  There are different factions regarding Bitcoin acceptance.  Some countries do not support  Bitcoin while others are very friendly.  With this opposing faction pulling tag of war about Bitcoins, whales and manipulater will definitely make use of.  spreading FUD in one end and selling hype in other hand,  I bet it will really be a more volatility market for Bitcoin in 2018.

Bitcoin is highly Volatile as a Crypto Currency, determination of its volatility for 2018 will depend on market traffic.  Many people have a reason for investing in Bitcoin, which is for the purpose of profit, that is they buy when the price is low,and  as soon as the price rises, they sell their Bitcoins so as to make profit from their investments, and also to be able to avoid  loss as a result of Volatility. The type of investments may be long or short term  investments. It is more profitable for long term investments. Also bad publicity about bitcoin by banks also contributes to its Volatility. The Volatility of Bitcoin cannot be determined or ascertain by predictions, but the volatility will allow new investors to be able to access the coin when the price is at the dip,and  investors also to hodl and also to have vast knowledge about bitcoin and its Volatility.

It is said that 40 percent of bitcoin is concentrated in the hands of a thousand people, and that is a thousand people who are very good at manipulating the rise and fall of bitcoin. If bitcoin needs to have monetary properties, it needs to be stable. Who else would be willing to use and store a currency that could fall sharply tomorrow? It's just a personal idea. There's no basis for it.

Actually, it is hard to determine its future behavior but if we continue to support the crypto then there is a bigger chance that it will increase its value. As of these moment, we can see that its value is stable and it is slowly keep increasing. This is a sign that it is starting to recover from being down. This year it is expected that it will be 3x higher compared to last year peak value.

I really don't understand why people even think that it will stay stable it's.. not gonna ! At all ! For sure ... Bitcoins is too much volatile to predict it's gonna reach high and low and that's the norm ....one cannot control all the big whales .. from... Encashing or... Buying more ..there is nothing that can be done...
Thus we cannot... Control the money out and inflow and that way it is gonna Stay volatile.!

This year although we have started at a rough quarter I still believe that bitcoin volatility will make the investors interested in it, for sure that bitcoin will increase in its demand as many companies were interested in having it as an alternative way of mode of payment just like Mdconalds, for sure some companies will follow then.

Now do this situation. But I think the situation may change in the future. As the popularity of bitcoins grows, we will see a large influx of users. Coins will be more evenly distributed across users ' wallets and whales will be harder to control a large number of coins. Volatility will always be but the amplitude of price fluctuations will decrease.

I'd say that it is rather stable this year till now . The price is constantly floating between 7k-10k and around it or a bit above it . Its been 3 months and there has not been a very huge hike in the price or even a tolerable hike in the price . There was some volatility when bitcoin came under the radar of $6000 and everyone was stressing out about it . It is expected to see some hike in the later months this year.

It is not really a volatility but it is expansion of the bitcoins popularity that last time we experienced. For bitcoin to reach all new heights it has to be very smooth this time and I think 2018 is getting ready for the biggest pump that world has ever imagined. I mean one thing is clear that people are buying like crazy at this very moment as they get huge number of bitcoin floating around with very least prices. We saw many resistance for the bitcoin and it was true on all of them. Now its time for the bitcoin to leave this low level field and get on top of the ATH again by stepping out of this loop hole. And it will surely do that. The volatile nature is there but when it makes mega moves then its not the volatility but the natural driving force of investors I guess.

That's quite true as bitcoin's fluctuations are getting more and more complicated. Of course, we need steadiness and patience to maintain our holdings choice to wait for the market to rebound and the value of growth may be another milestone.

Price votality of bitcoin is its nature because it is dependent on the demand and supply of the market,it can be very obvious when that 2017 bull run be replaced by the bearish market that was already happening from the start of 2018 until now.It become an issue to bitcoiners the things that was happening today where bitcoins value had dump to almost 65% from the price of 2017 up to this moment..but as we can see bitcoin had strongly stand tall and slowly gaining and recovering.

Volatility is a big issue especially for new investors in my opinion. However, if you see the prices this year, the prices had not been that much volatile so far. That also means that the possible returns had decreased . Last year people used to make 100% returns in a month but this year they are failing to get even 20 %.

Volatility is the only reason bitcoins had been so much profitable for people especially short term traders.

I think not. Everyday it seems like we are getting closer to mass acceptance and less volatility.

But its 2018 and its clearly true that more volatility is happening, but what should we do its part of the crypto world and it is the nature of this currency that remains being volatile since the price continuously dump but I believe the pump is coming and I should work for more since its allegedly will raise up to 50000$.

The sole basis of a cryptocurrency is volatility thus I don't think it will ever be stable for more than a week.

That's right it's one of its features and characteristics, that is to my mind, a double edged sword that could bring big returns but could also bring about big losses if not controlled properly. It's not that easy to actually manage it and that is why many ventures in this market go south because of the very same aspect that makes the prices of many coins skyrocket in just a short time. I think 2018 would be similar with what happened last year; however, I am hoping that the market would not show more dumps for months at a time because it's really hard for investments to keep going forward.

It is going to encounter that unpredictability without a doubt since it's soley made and brought by individuals based on instability.. The sole premise of a digital currency is unpredictability accordingly I don't figure it will ever be steady for over seven days. Likewise individuals are expecting the cost of bitcoins to rise again to a plunge esteem however on the other hand forecasts don't work in this unstable bitcoins case.
Some are stating after the duty day it will rise . how about we perceive how that goes .

Even if I am expecting volatility I believe that we will see fewer panic situations in the market. There will be the involvement of big whales and institutional investors but the price won't rise overnight but at a sustainable growth rate. At the ground level, it is the subject matter of the mass maturity and it is growing day by day so things won't be the same like last few years.

I think bitcoin in 2018 has experienced more volatility than all the previous years combined. Prices have gone down drastically and then have also risen to be twice the price which it dropped to. Just this last week, we saw bitcoin move $1000 in less than an hour. So much more volatile.

Bitcoin may not going to be as volatile as it is in2017 but I am very sure we will still have a good year in 2018. More good news are coming out and we should rejoice that Samsung want to make used of cryptocurrencies and blockchain technology. Bitcoin is going to go above the December high soonest.

tim draper predicts a 250000 bitcoin. Others 100000. If you look at the past bitcoin never just goes straight up. So there is no evidence to suggest the future will be any different

The way understand it, Samsung is not joining the crypto sphere, they are using blockchain technology within their company because we all know how blockchain has many advantage. And with the size of Samsung, they really need a ledger that can be accessible from anywhere the world so that decisions (and profit) can be made in an instant, because data are being shared across.

Well this article is written back in January so yeah we have been experiencing volatility since then because bitcoin is now at $8K. But he totally get it wrong (most of the them though!) that bitcoin will not see a price below $10K as we have been on a downfall after reaching all-time-high last December.

Dreaming to become very wealthy about cryptocurrency is really good because you can get rich even in your younger age if you are not tired of working on bounty campaigns or trading in the market.

I believe so. Because they are now planning to regulate cryptocurrencies and planning to add Tax on it, so with the new regulations it will affect Bitcoin's price. But I think it will give a positive effect on the crypto market because people will know that crypto world is not a scam.

You can see that the current price of bitcoin is in a strong downtrend, so it is difficult to exceed the $ 19800 level by the end of 2017. The market is in a severe crisis when the price of altcoin also fell on bitcoin, market capitalization has evaporated $ 500 billion and is now at $ 300 billion. I believe the bitcoin girl will reach $ 1000 in 2018.

I very much want to hope for an increase in bitcoin volatility this year, but only in the direction of its growth, and then the fall already exhausted all nerves.
It is getting more volatile as of today and it could be more for the reason that many people have engage in here. The wide acceptance of bitcoin really boosting it's volatility growth in the market but the good thing of having of these is that, surely people will have a huge chnaces to earned more profit if they play it will.

I do not see any reason for the volatility of bitcoin to go down, if anything there is a chance the volatility will go up there are many governments that are passing laws against cryptocurrencies that may be negative and that could scare investors which will make them sell their coins.

Its volatility is part of its being successful and popular. It has its advantages and disadvantages, and it depends what it means to be volatile. It could be an increase or decrease its value. When trading, if it's low, it's an opportunity to buy coin, and when it's high it the best way to sell it. More people will get to know and be interested to join and get involved due to this trend. Being volatile does not always mean detrimental.

BTC has received too much attention and is easily influenced by the outside world.

Because of a lot of false news, the investor's mind was disturbed and the wrong operation BTC was made.

The price that causes BTC has great fluctuation!

It depends on the investment ratio. If more people invest in bitcoin the price will go up beside it will do down. There is volatility in the price for the last few years but volatility was god because the price was growing continuously but in 2018 volatility became worst for investors because the price fell down to almost 13000 dollars from 19000 to 6000 dollars. It was a great fall in the price.

Too much volatility is also not good for bitcoin growth because new investors afraid to invest their hard earn money because of the fear of losing. I think that volatility will be there in 2018 because after 4 months there is a huge volatility in the price and it will continue. Volatility is not bad but it should be for the growth in the price and not for fall in the price.

but this is what happens in the market now and we can see that bitcoin price still volatile and the price itself is up and down too often. I think the investor will have their own analysis so they can make a good decision to buy bitcoin as their investment. besides that, from a new year until now, bitcoin price does not increase significantly and I think it's waiting for a good moment to increase more than $10k and I am sure that the price can do that. I think from the volatility, we can try to make a profit because we can buy at low price and sell at the high price and the price will change over and over.

Things have changed now, Bitcoin is not just influenced by bitcoin geeks anymore. The rising market cap clearly shows that so many new users are entering the market, Hence increasing the volatility also. Market is influence by many factors, so resulting in volatility always despite volume is low or high you need to get used to it. Coming 2018 things seem to be more volatile simply as volume is more and even the small volatility can result to change in big numbers but the volatility can comparability same over the years.

I think it is the opposite, it is precisely the volatility that brings more investors to bitcoin, they do not want to wait for a long time before they see great profits but the volatility has a bad side too which means that they can lose a lot of money, but personally I'm willing to accept that risk as long as I have the possibility of making great profits.

Naturally, it is not easy to foresee the changes in the prices for Bitcoin, but as I can just guess (looking at the crypto market situations), it might show the higher volatility this year.

The price of BTC is affected by supply and demand!

In 2108, the block chain technology developed rapidly around the world, and as the most successful application of the blockchain, BTC must be popular, and the price went up!

More and more people know BTC, BTC increase popularity, the price will go up!

The main point of importance is that you shouldn't want to influence the market in any way, especially so when you take into consideration that whales doing it already for you. The only thing you as trader have to do is pick up on their manipulation and let it work in your advantage. It's basically free manipulation for you. Even if you only manage to slightly benefit from that manipulation you'll be making a decent chunk of change. It's just a matter of analyzing the market constantly, but it requires a lot of your time. In other words, you don't have to watch. It all depends on your experience and will to take advantage of these more than profitable situations. If not, then that's fine too, but accept that holding is pretty much the only option left at that specific moment.

If the price of bitcoin increases with time, the degree of its volatility will also grow. Indeed, while we can say that bitcoin will always be subject to volatility, this is its immense quality. Investing in bitcoin will represent an increased risk when its price increases very much. Then the manifestation of its high volatility and a sharp decline in its rate can lead to panic, and this, in turn, can actually lead to its depreciation.

In my own opinion, volatility is the only reason why people is keep on investing in cryptocurrency, there are a lot of people who are interested on investing because the market price is increasing depending on the season that's why bitcoins is very profitable.

It seems to be true given that the largest market value reached by bitcoin last year fell down into more than half, due to the continuous backdrops at the beginning of this year. The market value of bitcoin is struggling at this moment at above 8000 usd. Since there are still 7 months remaing, I am hoping that things will somehow be different for this year.

One cannot completely say that the volatility of bitcoin will stop as that had been the driver of profit to investors in the crypto currency community. And who knows whether the volatility that before end of this year will be more as compared to what we experienced last year.

Also bad publicity about bitcoin by banks also contributes to its Volatility. The Volatility of Bitcoin cannot be determined or ascertain by predictions, but the volatility will allow new investors to be able to access the coin when the price is at the dip, and  investors also to hold and also to have vast knowledge about bitcoin and its Volatility.

I have no idea if it will be more volatile or not, and I guess no one can tell you that, but I do believe it will be very volatile just like the past years. Bitcoin will only stop being volatile once it guess mass adoption, and I'm afraid we are still a long way from that. Of course that regulation could help things a bit, but since we are in a free market, and BTC is always ruled by supply and demand, if the markets are thin, it will always be very volatile, because there are a lot of people with money playing with it.

Bitcoin prices in 2018 have been marked by the volatility that has made bitcoin price forecasts in the short term a bit of a challenge, even for experienced analysts. So, if you are thinking of investing in cryptocurrency, it is important for you to understand that volatility persists here. You need to understand that if you invest in an increased assessment, you run the risk of suffering losses in a shorter period of time. However, if you are thinking of holding Bitcoin for a longer period of time, you will have no problems at all.

Bitcoin's price is very volatile. It depends on the forces of demand and supply.Bitcoin's demand is increasing like earlier and therefore I guess the volatility will also increase. Many people are investing in bitcoin as the prices are increasing. So if more will invest then definitely volatility will be there.People also hold their bitcoins which also contributes to the volatility of bitcoin's price. It is the number one cryptocurrency and will grow more in 2018.

In crypto currency world we should always assume volatility because of past movement of prices but it just from the begining but now it seems that it start to stabilized or when it moves it will just pump up.
Volatility of a coin is just an effect of any market changes and this is because of a traders and investors that keep on coming for buying and selling on the market, the popularity of bitcoin are increasing then more people from different places in the world are start venturing for this new technology of financial system making the markets more volatile.

I would screen the same. The worst situation has gone away it seems. Almost it has been 3 weeks, we could see a recovery in price growth. Every altcoin has shown its green lights almost everyday. Just look at today's growth in bitcoin price. Almost $500 hike has been seen and its still expected to grow along with other altcoins values as well. Though last 3 days remained bit negative but not too much, it has recovered now i would say. Hope this continues.

Be that as it may, on the other hand, as the market recoups now. I figure the cost will keep on rising with a couple of minor plunges all over. Unless another legislature will boycott BTC and there wil be a surge of supply again I the market. Yet, I'm certain that it will in any case recuperate and get more grounded even from that.

Yes, volatility is normal because there is transactions happened at crypto market. If the price is stable and not moving how are we going to earn if the price is not rising at the market. And how are we going to earn high if we cannot invest at a lower price when value price of bitcoin and top altcoins will not go dip. Volatility at bitcoin and altcoins are healthy for me. It is our strategy and responsibility of how are we going to make our investments at bitcoin and altcoins profitable in the future. Good strategy = good profits in the future.

Volatility is actually one of the main reasons why the whole idea of trading bitcoin exists in the first place. Traders love some huge level of volatility as that is how they benefit a lot from the market anyway.

No one can actually know if we will end up experiencing more volatility in this year, but obviously, the market has been pretty volatile over the years, so I do not see what is more, or what is less compared to what we have been having. Volatility is volatility and I expect that we are still in that phase and going to be there for a while.

I really do not understand what you guys are implying as more volatility. The market has been very volatile over the years and nothing is at least changing that any time soon, so whichever way, we are still in the moment of volatility, and however the future is going to be playing out is best known to the future and no one can actually expect anything from it as it is now, except for us to just follow the trend and see where it leads.

The price increase in good for investors and the price decrease favor the people to buy and invest and about the investors invested in high price will definitely wait for the price to jump. By December 2018 the price will be at the peaks of the mountains.

We cannot expect so much at the moment though and things may even still look a bit horrific in the short term but that does not change the great moments for bitcoin in the coming years which we are all optimistic is going to be bright.

Yes you are right, cryptocurrency volatility is the reason why there are a lot of traders who are interested on trading in the market so there is no way that bitcoin will lose its investors since people are keep on joining this bitcoin community.

As people understanding of encryption currency, people begin to contact block chain technology BTC, there will be more and more people to participate in the investment in BTC, people don't panic selling because of some negative news, so I think the currency volatility will be more and more small.

I think we will experience price volatility all the way up to the hundreds of thousands. Its the first new emerging asset arguably since the gold rush and golds price was unbelievable volatile for a good few decades!

Yes I believe that bitcoin will experience more price volatility in 2018, we can not say no because the market is experiencing the volatility of price value so this be happenning to bitcoin too. bitcoin will experience a negative and positive volatility in the price value in the coin market index.
Bitcoin are suffering from or enjoying from this volatility since the first day of their development. We can say this in both terms because for some people this volatility is just an enjoyment and source of good money. While for others it is considered as bad impact on the life of bitocins. But in either way, you are good to go for earning big profits from bitcoins in anytime.

Bitcoin was always quite volatile for as a cryptocurrency. Volatility can drops when marketcap reaches at the level of ten trillion dollars. This may only be possible after 2020.

I think the worst is over. That insane dip was truly scary and i though I'd have to say goodbye to ny investments. But then again, as the market recovers now. I think the price will continue to rise with a few minor dips here and there. Unless another government will ban BTC and there wil be a surge of supply again i the market. But I'm confident that it will still recover and get stronger even from that.

Volatility is not bad, it only means that wiser people will get a huge advantage on trading because some of them are just hoping for price drops in order to earn a huge amount of profit and that is what the nature of trading does in the market.
Volatility is not bad in itself but the reason of why many people don't like it is because they are not able to take advantage of it, when they do try to take advantage of it they lose their money, while traders in the other hand love volatility because that allows to them to earn a lot of money very quickly.

Right.Volatility is the only hope especially for the traders since it will give them a huge amount of profit when the price hits a high amount.I think there will be more volatility this year since a lot of fuds and negative media pressures are still coming. But we should not be panic since volatility does not brings us down,it only gives us opportunity to get rich quickly.

Yeah, as no one can predict the future anyway. So far, the market has shown some signs of trying to move up and we cannot really say how things would end up turning out anyway looking at the way things have been over time, but the thing here is that we cannot know what to expect at any point in time and the market is pretty much not ready to give so much more than as it is, but the level of volatility is what no one can really have any say about.

Compared to last year, we are seeing more volatility in 2018. This may be because of huge price levels of bitcoin. Usually the price movements are happening in percentage of actual value. Still, if you consider the volatility in percentage then probably we are experiencing same level of fluctuation similar to what we had in last year.

This is sure, if we compare the same time in 2017 and 2018 we will know the price fluctuation in 2018 more than in 2017. and this proves its price at the end of 2018 will be much higher than in 2017.

And this year 2018 It Is an obvious that volatility of bitcoin was more than before, Its seemed because of more fud spreading out as what you have said and those new investors will easily get affected at that moment.

I guess yes. The volatility of bitcoin price is normal. This is what makes bitcoin so special and unique. It has an advantage and disadvatage to both traders and investors. When the bitcoin price collapse more traders grab that opportunity to buy more and hold. Its only a matter of being smart and strategic person in this event to become more successful at the end of the day.

Volatility is a common thing in almost every investment assets and with Bitcoins it’s mostly due to the FUD and ban rumors that’s been circulating around on social media and from the media as well. If the investors don’t listen to to FUD and keep holding we are going to have less and less of price volatility.

Right. The volatility has always been there for the crypto market though of course with more people coming in, some doesn't even know what they're getting into, it will tend to be a little more volatile than a year or two ago.

We won't know what will happen with the market price of bitcoin and for this year, the volatility of bitcoin may result to another peak price again by the end of the year or may result to a low price again. Volatility is truly normal and we know from the start that all cryptos are all like this. We might have a belief that bitcoin will be valuable in the future but speculating that it will start this year is hard. All of us can continue to predict what could happen but that is the end for us because no matter how much we want the price to be high, other factors are still considered.

I agree, volatility of bitcoin and altcoins is normal and healthy because it does means that transactions are flowing. A good trader knows that crypto drops is very important, experiences and research will tell that the importance of cryptocurrency is not just of how it rise higher but of how are we going to come up a good results at our investments in cryptocurrency. Whatever it will, that it could be going up or down as long as profiting in either ways. Good strategy good profits in the future.

Due to 2017 experience where Bitcoin price strongly soar that now made so many to actually invested in and hold this 2018 based on the low volatility or averagely steady rate presently dwindling around $9 to $10 with the believe or prediction of another pump, high volatility of Bitcoin shall never be an understatement at all. Ceteris parables, year 2018 shall equally soar but might not be as sharp as that of the late year 2017. Bitcoin is now however maintaining a good steady and rational rate of ascending volatility all which is good to go, my opinion.

Apparently, the higher the bitcoin rate rises, the greater will be its volatility. This is obvious and showed an example with an increase in its price to almost $ 20,000 and its fall to $ 6,500. At a high price of bitcoin, the amplitude of its price fluctuations can be much greater.
One can imagine how high the volatility of bitcoin will be if its price rises by more than one hundred thousand dollars. It seems to me that the high volatility of bitcoin will be the main obstacle to its very high growth in price.

actually, if we see the history of bitcoin before, the price is always volatile even if when the price is less than $1000, the price is up and down in many times. and I think if we can see the volatility will happen in this year, it is better for us to gets prepare and if we can use the chance to buy at lower price and sell at the highest price, then we could still make a profit. don't worry if in the first time you cannot make any profit, just keep continue and try to take a small profit and then middle profit and then a big profit.

Thinking about this for several times when I read this,  I really can not get the point why you are wishing of a temporary stability of bitcoin price. I we let such thing happen, what will happen to the next months to come? Remember, volatility is an asset of of bitcoin. It is like a reverse psychology.

In 2018, the price fluctuation of Bitcoin is huge. It is not the same as Bitcoin's fluctuation in 2017. In the year 2017, Bitcoin fluctuates mainly as Bitcoin's value increases and peaked at the end of 2017. But the fluctuation of Bitcoin in 2018 other. Bitcoin constantly increases and decreases value in a short time without following any rule. Even the experts' predictions are inaccurate about the peak of Bitcoin. In general, this year, Bitcoin is really volatile.

I agree, we can say that in this year, 2018, is the year where we can feel the volatility of bitcoin. I agree that even experts opinion and predictions about the price range are inaccurate. It's really risky to trade and invest because the drop of price is too sudden, that's why the demand decreases. People are uncertain and afraid to lose a lot of money.

Maybe the year 2018 will be experiencing more dip before it will recover and go up again. We just have to be patient because in the right time it will be stable again.
Since year 2018 started, I agree that we've been struggling and experiencing more of volatility in the price of bitcoin compared to the past few years. Even though we know price volatility are unavoidable. But then we should expect the unexpected in the market price anytime.

Anything can happen in the market and we cannot predict it.Bitcoin's price depends on various factors. The forces of demand amd supply play an essential role in the volatility of bitcoin. If the demand is high the prices will rise and if supply is high then the price will fall.Price volatility also depends on the amount of investment done by the investors in the bitcoin.People hold their bitcoins and sell them when the price rises. It has the potential to overtake the market and the fiat currency.

Thinking about this for several times when I read this,  I really can not get the point why you are wishing of a temporary stability of bitcoin price. I we let such thing happen, what will happen to the next months to come? Remember, volatility is an asset of of bitcoin. It is like a reverse psychology.

You are right, stability of bitcoins is not required because the only reason why cryptocurrency is profitable today is because of the volatility of the market and if bitcoins will become stable then all the cryptocurrency will be useless as well.

Volatility is a consequence of low volume, decentralized market, high manipulation and capped supply. Bitcoin may get rid of some of these in long term. But it can't get rid of all these points. Thus, Bitcoin volatility is here to stay even in long term. For 2018, Cryptos are still quite sensitive to news/rumors and market manipulation is at all time high right now which isn't healthy for the market and are main reasons to bring this bear phase with such a high volatility.

I think that the level of volatility of bitcoin will directly depend on the level of its price. The higher the bitcoin price rises, the greater will be its volatility. This just showed an example of the increase in the price of bitcoin in December last year to almost $ 20,000 and the subsequent drop in its price to almost $ 6,000. You can imagine that if bitcoin grows two times more - up to $ 40,000, accordingly, it can then fall to a correction of about $ 13,000. For ordinary money, such a fall in price would simply mean a catastrophe, but for a crypto-currency it seems to be a normal phenomenon.

Bitcoin's volatility in 2017 and 2018 was born due to the investment attractiveness of this asset. A lot of people have earned on his course. But due to the fact that save bitcoins now a lot of people, and interest to buy from new users is not so much, so the price moves in one corridor 6000-10000$. If there is a new and strong news that will create a stir on bitcoin, i.e. volatility will increase and the price will jump up immediately.

It's actually happening already. It was around 19,000 USD during december and january but now it's around 6,500 USD. Imagine how volatile the value of bitcoin it. Demand and supply really plays a huge role in this market. But I knew one day, the price of bitcoin will stable on a certain level once the economy is fully engaging in the technology.

I think this is due to price manipulation which is brought by whales.

I believe the bitcoin and crypto and the increasing price of crypto will be there every year. for the percentage of price increase it depends on the market and the interest of investors to trade in cryptocurrency.
