advanced Mathematical analysis suggests it's because it's not going up.
and probably because fewer people are willing to buy at this price than there are who are willing to sell at even lower prices.

Nothing can climb and climb without a pullback, there is not such thing. If you consider how fast price went during the past month we reached like 20k$ on some exchanges and look what was the price few month ago you will see how fast the movement was. It is natural that some people will want to take their profits out of this, plus we had big media talking like all 7 days of the week about bitcoin and pump was real. Now when situation has calmed down, even google trends for bitcoin began to decline, price is falling.

Although being long time in the bitcoin space I can tell you that, I myself don't really think to much about the prices as they raise and they fall. The thing is that if you are in for the long term it should be okay as from this point it looks bright in my eyes for the end of 2018.

If you look at some analysis you could predict that price can go down till like 8k if not slips a bit more, we have many new "investors" and who knows what kind of panic selling this can pull. On the other hand bitcoin and other cryptos are more of a speculative asstet as it is from now on, than real currency with real use - although I am fairly confident this will change in future.

Well i think bitcoin is just like a product if  there are only few person use it the demand will also verry few and it really affect the price on tbe marketplace  but i think bitcoin is different maybe there are many kinds of reason why its price will going down and rise up in the same date i think itvis not only because of the few demand.

This had been answered too many times. Its because of the supply and demand. Too many sellers will make the price go down, too many buyers and the price will go up.

I am also puzzling.

But it seems that the news that South-Korea was planning to ban the crypto caused a mayor drawback of money which in turn seemed to have caused the cryptomarket to become a bear market.

I don't think this is right - if more and more people were withdrawing their coins, the mempool would be full. But the mempool is clearing which means LESS transactions are being made (less people sending coins from their wallets to the exchanges).

That assessment is not necessarily correct.  You can sell up a number of positions on exchange and move a single transaction, while when buying may have made numerous smaller transactions over time.  Also people moving away from Bitcoin to ETH/LTC/BCH for moving funds between exchange and on/off ramps. All the mempool tells us is Bitcoin is being used less.

CME, Futures and FUD are all contributing to the price right now. Not to mention that we had a huge rally in December also, looking at charts over the past few years we always see this type of action in jan - feb.

Bitcoin price going down cause the demand is too low like in 2017 there so many traders in 2017 but now i think the traders take a rest that's why the demand is too low.

And also there is always going down and going up but never Forever going down and forever going up that's why the traders expected it because of the price increase in last month in december which is in year 2017.

When there is high, there are more fish. When there is low tide the supply of fish decrease. I think the reason why this price of bitcoin decreases because of the subdue numbers of investors. In the literal view of mine in the literal view of market. When there is a lot of supply and a lot of buyers the items is in stable price. When the items does not sold out because of few numbers who have interest the owner will decrease the price so that the income will back. I think it is similar.

I agree with this point. Since fast falling from $17k to $13k drastically, only takes few days, impact many people stuck in doubly decision between hold or panic sell. With additional news about some countries are starting of ban any transactions using Bitcoin, this is certainly very related.
Since then Bitcoin has been slowly declining, while investors are getting lost in trust, they following in condition panic selling. Actually this is an unhealthy condition for a currency trading especially this Cryptocurrencies, because there is no party can back up if the price has dropped sharply like this.

Maybe because when the bitcoin price goes high, there are less buyers, so it will draws back to lower price just like the law of supply and demand in economics. I think this will always be the scenario for bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.

Maybe because not enough people are buying.   People should wait till the price is less before buying.  Whales got in for a few cents at the beginning.  They should bow out and take their profit and leave others to have a chance of cheap Bitcoin.

Yes it is sad for us who just bought bitcoin recently when its price is high compared to its current price.  And right now there are speculations that bitcoin price would go down to $7000 before the end of the month.  In just a month its price really goes down.

Some panicked that they sell their bitcoins.  That also includes the banning of China.

the drop below $10k was a simple manipulation and newbie panic while whales were accumulating cheap coins in their pockets for a huge profit which they will make pretty soon.

the other drop that happened after it and price barely touched $10k may be the remainder of that, or it may be because they changed the definition of bitcoin on bitcoin.org yesterday! and removed the fact that bitcoin transactions should be cheap...

Strongly agree with you. Instead of looking at it as bad ,look at it as an opportunity to buy because it is a bit cheaper now although when you look at the previous years, bitcoin now is still on its high value. Its dropping because I think people are in panick and selling their bitcoin. But for sure it will recover soon.

Prices are going down as demand is going down. ITs a cycle of bitcoin. Profit-takers are making money out of it while ppl making a panic sale are losing their money.

Did you not looked at the market price of Bitcoin?  It was once at $20k  and now, how much is it?  I believe the sudden event of South Korea turning its back to cryptocurrency have huge impact on the market.  Aside from that, Chinese government restriction also put a second thought to investors.  Plus JP Morgans FUD and since they are an investment firm/bank, they really have a huge influence on the elite investors that wanted to invest in Bitcoin, the event and the statement of a known firm will definitely considered.  This is the reason why Bitcoin price decreased.

Previously Bitcoin prices declined due to the decision of several countries in doing regulation around the use of Bitcoin. but now the price of Bitcoin back down, whereas a few days ago Bitcoin prices had increased and quite stable. I also think this is a natural thing because this is the hallmark of a digital currency. Until now there is no negative news that clarify the current conidition, we must be optimistic that Bitcoin will again experience an increase in price and most importantly I think is a price stability. This is much more important than anything, because when the price of Bitcoin is stable then Bitcoin can be trusted by many people.

Some possible reasons why bitcoin price greatly lower this month is because of the upcoming Chinese new year, and a couple of headlines news coming from both two countries China and South Korea, but some sellers like me only base decision to sell with the aid of technical and candlestick analysis, these trading indicators if set correctly can help you cut further loss. The reason why bitcoin price go below 10,000 is because of the breaking of a monthly and weekly resistance.

The demand for bitcoin has reduced a lot compared to 2017, a lot of people are withdrawing from bitcoin and selling them than buying due to which the prices have crashed down real bad
Even the crypto market is on a low and nothing can be predicted firmly, but looking at the past bitcoin has neven been on a low for a long time

Hi,

The downward trend is normal if you compare this year graphs with graphs from previous years.

It can be explained by several factors: annoucement made by some countries (such as China for example) about possible bans, a "normal" phase of decrease after the huge increase in prices in november and december, general movement of panic selling...

So, if I summarize: it's ok. ;)

For the founder of SurBTC, Alejandro Beltrán Torrado, the fall in the value of bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies responds to different factors: the regulatory issue, mainly in countries like South Korea and China where governments investigate exchange houses because of the high volume of trading operations in bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, the announcement of the beginning of the year of the technology giant, Microsoft, in which it reported that it stopped accepting payments in bitcoins and that it was later reversed: "(...) the scalability of the network and the expectation of the stability of the future of the digital currency ".

Bitcoins, Ripple, ethereum and other cryptocurrencies are continuing to fall today after uncertainty over crypto trading in South Korea triggered a panic sell-off of the virtual currencies on Tuesday.
South Korea is trying to verify that users use Crypto to stop money laundering, and this has created enormous pressure on investors in the country as they are all under control and this will make Bitcoin lost anonymous value

for me, the only reasons why bitcoin price goes down is because of some FUD news. FUD news can create a massive dump on some newbie investors that not really know how bitcoin really works. then the correction of this price from the previous sells last years. all in all normally bitcoin price is totally crash but it is just for now. sooner or later i am very sure that bitcoin will pump after this correction.

There is the obvious reason that we have experienced the rally in the previous year and as a result, there was a much-needed correction in the price for the stabilization of price and the much-awaited fall is here but still, the rate is much lower than what I was expecting. I am also expecting the chaotic situation to remain like this until the beginning of the next quarter and we will see sustainable growth in the price for the rest of the year with minor fluctuations in the price.

Bitcoin goes down because investors are getting their investments and that's the case when you invest Bitcoin in the past months and you're getting profits more than you expected then you'll have to withdraw it and turn into cash. That's one of the many reasons why Bitcoin drops.

Newbie tellin it to another newbie.

there is many reason. main reason is mining problem.tx fee is too high.confirmation taking too much time.
Use SegWit enabled wallets, high cost of transaction fee and slow confirmation time, - Solved.

Bitcoin goes down because investors are getting their investments and that's the case when you invest Bitcoin in the past months and you're getting profits more than you expected then you'll have to withdraw it and turn into cash. That's one of the many reasons why Bitcoin drops.
Do you mean investors are cashing it out? Yeah, probably, but there are more pressing issues that makes investors bailed out in this kind of downtrend.

One theory I got is that the full weight of regulatory crackdown in Asia (South Korea) are driving investors out of the market. A lot of news lately, fake news or not, have been in the media for the last couple of days resulting on some investors losing faith because of the current scrutiny of Central Banks not just in Asia, but in the whole world as well where the government is planning to clamp down on trading in virtual currencies. Going to be a long way to go before we can fully see the market recovers and turn green again.

What I did not understand is this: they say that if people sell, price drops and vice-versa. But here's the thing: when someone sells, someone else buys. It's not like when you sell you put your btc in a big btc pool and when buying you take it out.
How does that work? No one had a clear explanation for me until now.

Nice math logic you have  ;) The first reason of the drop was new from South Korea about exchangers banning, as we all found a little later it was just FUD. It seems like the price should to repair itself after uncovering the truth, but bitcoin continued to go down and it still does, for that i have not an explanation. Probably it is just like a snow ball which is raising with every new -1% of the price, people just got scared and sell their coins.

The value of bitcoin nowadays are gettting lower and lower than as what we really dont expect to be happen. Many investors heard some bad news about bitcoin and they afraid to invest of it. That's why many investors did not invest in bitcoin and if they had of it, they keep on oanic selling so that's why the value of bitcoin keep on going down.

The Bitcoin prices are not going down due to a single event. It is to be understood that there is a series of events which is eventually taking Bitcoin down. By Unexplored market, Crypto’s are still an unexplored territory and most of the investors don’t know how to analyze. They just put their money to get high returns faster. So when statements related to Bitcoin Bubble came out and all these events began to happen, people thought that the bubble might be real. This made them pulling out their money from the market. It is called following the trend and is a most important factor that sometimes lead to disastrous falls like this one. But don’t worry, in the eight year old history, Bitcoin has always bounced back.

I have another opinion
I think the cause is only one, this is negative news in the media
and that is very influential at all, it causes panic among investors
and if anything provokes, there will be large amounts of bitcoin sales, and this will have a negative impact, that's what keeps the bitcoin down.

bitcoin prices go down, as many people sell them. there are several factors that make a decrease in almost all crypto. which I know, because of some rumors about the crypto market ban in south korea. there may be other factors that are increasingly making the value slump. but at least, now we can buy bitcoin at a lower price.

Certainly speculation over whether China will allow mining and how South Korea intends to regulate their market has directly correlated to rises and falls in $BTC. That said, the entire region is on their holidays right now. Literally billions of people are travelling, visiting family and celebrating the new year. In the US, during the Christmas week, it is not uncommon for businesses to lose 50-75% of their traffic as people take off and pay attention to their families. Every year, world markets take a similar dip, and come back when we are all back to work!

I think now is a great time to buy. :)

Asian countries have an important role to reduce the price of Bitcoin. they did to get a cheap price.
no one can do this unless they have great power and have a strong market. China can do anything.

People are selling to either take profits or because they are scared it is going to go down due uncertainty caused by whats going on such as government's attempt at intervention. The problem is that the people selling out of fear are the same people causing the price to go down.

People got terrified after this tough period that bitcoin recently faced, but i think this price drop is reasonable and has many factors! First, the huge increasement during november and december bitcoin grew with more than 12k in less than two months so this is just descresement phase after the storm, second the transactions that went slow and lower caused by the bans in some countries, and third bitcoin is just a crypto, nothing is sure! we can expect price perturbations anytime.

The answer is only one, because of fluctuations
and this has often happened is not it? in addition to poor media coverage
This causes panic among investors, there are some investors who withdraw their assets, with the aim of securing it
and that's why bitcoin prices suddenly go down

According to Robert Schiller-Nobel Laureate in Economics, bitcoin will not have a real value until people come to a consensus on its price. After all, the same gold has its price, even if it is not considered by the public as an investment. The very likely outcome of the Critical Exchange - according to Schiller - bitcoin could collapse and everyone will forget about it. But when this happens, the expert does not know. Up to this point, it may take 100 years, he believes.

Well, issues related to legality are very easy to influence the price of bitcoin. A few months ago the news from China also made bitcoin prices stunned, just as it is today, linked to South Korea. However, South Korea has announced official news, that no exchange shutdown and tax announcements, hopefully this brings a positive impact.

Another reason is bitcoin hard fork it can be a trigger too. And also some Whales play bitcoin price around so they can get cheap bitcoin and then they pump bitcoin to highest rate so they can sell it and get profits from it. That's what i thought. correct me if im wrong. My suggest is just HODL your bitcoin. Thanks

Then, bad news from South Korea and China sent bitcoin prices down.

Actually, there are many reasons for this sudden drop in price (the value has decreased to 11k), and the most important of them are:

Firstly, the increase in the value of selling this currency, especially in this period and this is certainly a strategy for the capitalist to lower the price and then to buy when the value becomes too weak (it is expected when the price will be $ 8000).

Secondly, the problem of transaction fees which it is so high compared to other currencies (like, Ethereum, Litecoin...). Also the huge number of unconfirmed transactions ( For example, in blockchain more than 77110 transactions are not yet confirmed).

Everybody is well aware that the rate of any monetary units, securities and crypto-currencies, including bitcoins, grows only when the demand for them increases.
Depending on the situation on the market, the rate may:
increase or decrease smoothly - this happens when players are able to buy bitcoins;
fall or rise sharply - this indicates that the stock exchange has come pamper.
If we talk about who these pampers are, they are players who have huge assets behind them, so they can immediately raise the cost of bitcoins to the maximum possible size. Typically, pampers skillfully react to the hype of young traders, and at the right time skillfully create the illusion of a steady increase in the rate of bitcoin, they buy orders, which makes the novices panic and massively buy bitcoins. And when the bitcoin rate reaches its peak, pampers arrange a dump, dropping assets and thereby reducing the cost to a minimum possible values.

Basically this reasons you just mentioned are fud which makes people think twice before going to invest. Recently bitcoin price drops due to massive supply from people who panic selling their bitcoins. The best thing to do now is to hold our stock and wait for the market to hike up again.

Corrections on bitcoin or other cryptocurrenct is normal. It occurs due to the changes on its supply and demand. Besides it only occur for a short time and price will still go back to normal. Sometimes corrections can be healthy to both investors and traders to avoid being too comfortable of their gains.

Law of demand and Supply. When many investors purchase coins it will definitely increase its price meaning high and demand. When many investors will sell it means the increase in supplies is higher than the demand for the coins. There are also many factors that influence such as the increase in sales of other altcoins that also reduce the demand for bitcoin because they buy more altcoins than bitcoin itself.

Bitcoin price is not regulated by banks or the governments, it is all demand and supply.if Bitcoin touched the highest price mark. Many people sold their accumulated Bitcoin is order to cash the profit, resulted in more Bitcoins in the market.so Supply increases but demand remains same, hence price went down.

in this month price of bitcoin goes down , any one know reason for BTC price down
If you look at some analysis you could predict that price can go down till like 8k if not slips a bit more, we have many new investors and who knows what kind of panic selling this can pull. On the other hand bitcoin and other cryptos are more of a speculative asstet as it is from now on, than real currency with real use although I am fairly confident this will change in future

This really made me sad. I do not know why but I'm just hoping that the price will get back normally again. This is very alarming but then again, I will just hold my Bitcoins hoping that its price would get higher again soonest.

if the price were to "go back to normal" it would have to go somewhere between 2 and 4 000 max. that would be closer to normal than we are now.

That's very simple, Chinese happy new year coming. People just withdrawing BTC and change it to fiat, that's why.. So we just have to wait until 16 of February, the price will pump up to 20k USD/BTC. So no wories about that. People need money for the presents.
