I had previously doubted that Bitcoin would be replaced by another currency. But my mind has changed. Because I see there are many other cryptocurrencies that the developers are trying hard to solve the problems in cryptocurrencies.  What about bitcoin? We don't know who are the developers and no effort is being made to develop it.
If you don't try hard, your rivals will win. Bitcoin's rivals will win too.

That will be difficult to happen as bitcoin always shows power of pioneer.... If Ethereum that has great features and so many other coins too and yet still cant compete with bitcoin... Bitcoin will always remain the best...

I also agree that bitcoin is so powerful and that's why I think bitcoin replacement by another altcoin will not happen in short-term. I am talking about long term. There are some problems that must be solved. Those who are trying hard,  will finally solve them.

I strongly disagree. Bitcoin will always be bitcoin. It will never fade. It might just go on its downtrend and uptrend but this bitcoin will not die. There are a lot of cryptocurrencies out there but bitcoin is unique and is indeed offers a lot of opportunities to many.

I think so too that bitcoin will someday be replaced by its competitors and I see ethereum as a coin ready to replace.

Bitcoin, being the first decentralized digital currency, has earned its popularity among the people especially to those who are engaged in cryptocurrency. In comparing the different variants of digital currency such as bitcoin and altcoins, there's going to be one of them which will top the race with the bases of popularity, value price, duration of subsistence, continuance of development and a lot more preferences that takes in mind of the people.

Transaction fees? Fees are low now with segwit and will be even lower on lightning. Ethereum fees are cheaper because transaction volume is smaller.

Also, any improvement made in any other cryptocurrency, bitcoin can just copy it and use it too.

I don't think Bitcoin will be replaced. There is space for many cryptocurrencies. Ethereum and Bitcoin are not rivals, nobody is competing so no one will win. They have different propositions. Ethereum is not supposed to be a global currency.

Look knowing the people behind this token is not a good ground to believe that it will be replace by other crypto, and what kind of effort you want to see. Bitcoin has the power to control all the price of crypto currency in the market,  this does mean that there is no effort is required so far. Also the fees now is not expensive when making a transaction. As we can see knowing the developers behind it is not necessary as long as we are witnessing the changes and answering to the call of the community. There are projects that provide the information of the team but at the end no progress, it doesn't make sense at all.

If we are talking about long term perspective, then most probably yes, some other crypto can become morepopular or lets say more useful in future needs and because of that can replace bitcoin

While this has been said time and time again. simply repeating something isn't going to make it true. Most of the othercoins in crypto are shitcoins, the only ones which are notable (but in my view still can't takeover) is a coin like Ether.

Ether is the only real coin that matters, and even that doesn't have the history, the amount of money involved, and the amount of people involved (people using it for a currency) for it to takeover bitcoin in its control over the market.

There is one thing that is missing in your assumption (OP) which is brand awareness. For those outside of crypto they will only know bitcoin and won't bother to learn about all the benefits of ethereum, litecoin, etc.. They will stick to what everyone else is using and that will be bitcoin (original, not cash)

I think ETH has already replaced it as the most widely used payment option. I see most of the clients prefer paying in ETH now as it has less fees.

Bitcoin is an open source project everyone can contribute to Bitcoin, and the lightning network is being developed mainly because of Bitcoin. If you are trusting the project based how the team performs, then you do it wrong.

I think it would be tough to replace bitcoin. Since bitcoin is the pioneer in crypto industry, so the replacing one has to be prospective with great value back.

I do not think btc can easily be replaced by another crypto. Because in my opinion, btc is the basis of cryptocurrency. In order to have a solid market, the new altcoins are based on btc's blockchain technology. So, I think btc can not be replaced by any other crypto, unless a different technology like blockchain appears.

Yes it is possible that bitcoin can be replaced by another crypto but I think it may happen for a very long time. Indeed there are many cryptocurrencies that are being developed but still you see that bitcoin prevails. Too early to say that. They aren't even in the half of the price of btc and many have said the same thing in the past few years but still until now btc is on top. Those who only believe that it will happen are those altcoin believer or should I say eth fanboy.

But the problem with your logic is that there are already coins around that is better than bitcoins. However, we don't see it overtaking bitcoin, why? Because its been used as a store of value (SoV), meaning a lot of investors are pouring cash in the market right now to keep their money safe and of course make profits in return.


Exactly. ETH is much better technology wise than bitcoin, its fast, less fees and the devs are really active. But why it remains on the second spot? Its because people still prefer to use( invest) bitcoin despite all the scaling issues, high fees (although not the case today). Also LN is coming, everyone is claiming that's its going to be the solution for the current problem, so this might be another reason why people are still getting into the bitcoin market.

Bitcoin is likely to become an expensive coin in the future, and as long as the community is developing, there will be more and more unique features, and they will slowly replace the market share of bitcoin. This is affirmative.

Bitcoin was first crypto currency and we know it is not perfect, but what is making it is so popular and expansive is crazy demand on this crypto. I also believe that one day the era of bitcoin will pass and it will be replaced by more modern and technological currency, but bitcoin is going to be on the top for many years more.

I would differ in this statement, ETH might be having a good technology when it comes to projects to allocate tokens and most of them are scams, this is not a revelation, because most of the users have fallen for these scam projects and the most important difference between bitcoin is that, it is a currency primarily and a store of value and you cannot even call ETH a currency. I have my reservation about the lightning network because nodes could be targeted and attacked  but it has to be seen when it is implemented and what measure will be taken to counter that.

I do not see any spectacular coin that could replace bitcoin for now and if i see one i could accept that, but i do not see any with more than thousand coins and tokens in the market, there are developers working on improving bitcoin and they will see to what changes have to be made and this is an open source project, so basically anyone can participate in improving bitcoin, i do not see any coin replacing it in the near future.

This is more a script to me. I've heard many times someone keeps on telling that there is a coin that's better than bitcoin but where are those coins? Did it win? Did it overtake bitcoin?

The main thing for big cryptos is adoption and BTC is the most widely known and adopted currency. It will be extremely difficult to replace it in my opinion, despite there being superior coins

I doubt it, bitcoin got its position as the first and most paramount cryptocurrency because it is the first cryptocurrency ever developed. New and upcoming developers may create a alternative cryptocurrency that may solve more problem and will be popular but they never can take the place of bitcoin. There might be newly introduced coin but I don't think it will replace Bitcoin. We have seen too many coins that is trying to achieve what bitcoin have reached but they can't reach the demand and popularity it is gaining. Wow I can't believe after all these years someone questioning bitcoin supremacy, because of its developer, Bitcoin is working very fine and they are still going to be the number one for the long time, because Bitcoin is very adopted by investors and merchants I don't what coins are you try to hype but no Bitcoin will still reigns.

It is indeed "Difficult" as you said, though the possibilities are there. Yes, Bitcoin is the pioneer and has an edge over every other coin but that is not actually a reason for Bitcoin not to be replaced. We are already era in which technology can upgrade by itself so definitely, there would be a time in which these other cryptos will have a definite feature that will surely top Bitcoin.

Can you give us one coin in your mind that might replaced bitcoin in the future? Bitcoin already existed for almost 10 years now and so far we haven't seen any coins closing in at bitcoin. I would have that there are attempts in the past, recently XRP try their best, (so called Rippening), but it didn't have the support of the community that's why bitcoin remain as the #1. I hope that you are aware of Segwit and Lightning Network. This is the latest developed to solve the current problems of high fees and slow confirmation times. Bitcoin has the biggest advantage that it is always in news being the first crypto. Other than that, if we judge based on features, coins like ETH are already defeating it .

there's a possibility, but for another cryptocurrency to surpass bitcoin they need a very big impact on the media so that people know there project and when that happen more people use their  cryptocurrency and soon they will surpass bitcoin.

Give me a good example of your so called trend, how do you evaluate the trend you discovered, there is no trend, there are a shit load of tokens coming out, some are good and some are really bad and you think that those tokens that is being created will push ETH above bitcoin, may be it will have a total market capital because of the sheer number of projects created by it, but that does not mean that ETH could be able to touch bitcoin's price valuations not in a million years.

Yeah, i agree that more coins are stepping ahead and making lots of good impression and profits as well (which is instant and i normally don't trust the hype), bitcoin doesn't have that hype anymore which will vanish in 3 days later, but after years and years as we have all been witnessing it, so? INVALID!

The movement of the cipher market is the same as its inherent nature. No one will believe in sudden changes until we know it. Bitcoin is hard to replace at any time because the support from the mining community and the people and investors is huge.

We do know most of the developers. Everyone is free to propose a change since Bitcoin is open-source. There are many altcoins out there which claim to be faster and cheaper than Bitcoin but you have to keep in mind that's natural. It is easier to create something new than upgrade the existing thing. Can you imagine what would happen if there was a critical bug in Bitcoin after an upgrade? It would cause a lot of panic which could lead to huge crash on cryptocurrency market. In my opnion, Bitcoin will be slowly upgraded and it will still be number one cryptocurrency.

It may happen if some new crypto gets much superior qualities or if something happens in the world, that makes the Bitcoin look not so attractive as compared to the other crypto (e.g. taxes).

in the beginning until now after the success of bitcoin many altcoins try to compete with bitcoin but the end result is they can't surpass it. bitcoin have flaws and limitations but why does it still number one? over the years bitcoin have become popular and widely use by many. we can say bitcoin have a solid foundation and it is hard for altcoins to destroy it.

ETH level - 753, 19 USD
Ripple level - 0, 825 USD

All of them are not stable. I heard a lot of amazing reviews about Ripple, and what can I see now? It was 20 cents per coin, and when it was 3 USD per coin, all people are going crazy.
The forget about BTC, of course it  is logically right decision. BTC is over prized right now and Ripple is low prized. But what can we see now? For Ripple it is hard to be more then 1 USD per coin.
The same situation with ETH, of course ETH has the strongest blockchain but right now it is 750 USD per coin and in a month it will be 700 USD. I see no contenders to a BTC in 3 years for sure.

I strongly agree with you on this. It is just a matter of time. Bitcoin is the standard, been the first well known and acceptable digital currency. It doesn't rule out the fact that another alts can take it's place. The purpose of blockchain technology has been achieved been decentralised and reduce charges.

I would say that bitcoin still be on top for more years to come, but it's not imposible for other crypto to reach the success of bitcoin most especially if that coin have great project, it's really depend on the demand on the user.

I'm not sure. The most important advantage of bitcoin is its name. You can use many altcoins but keep your savings you will always be in bitcoins. I only do one transaction per month so I'm not interested in the price and the rate of confirmation by miners. perhaps this is the main reason that developers do not want to change anything.

I personally doubted that there's another kind of cryptocurrency that will replace bitcoin not today even in future. Bitcoin has a lot of potential that no other kind of cryptocurrencies can make it so far. Perhaps, even today that bitcoin is in it's lowest point no altcoins could bet it's lowest value even ethereum.

Bitcoin is the leading altcoin and it is leading others with poles. Yes there are issues with bitcoin which the others are also having. I believe the developers of bitcoin are not sleeping they are also aware of these issues and the challenge posed by the advancing altcoins so they will be working to maintain their position.

You are already wrong when you compared Bitcoin with altcoins. When an altcoin comes out whose team we do not know, it will fail for sure. Bitcoin was different. When a new altcoin presents itself just like Bitcoin, it will also fail 100 percent. Bitcoin is the one and only. Altcoins have to present something new other than just presenting themselves as options or alternatives to Bitcoin. They will fail if that is only what they have to offer.

Actually bitcoin is getting developed over many times like many forks are happened with bitcoin which made the bitcoin transactions are more faster and cheaper and segwit adoption made the fee of bitcoin transactions reaches to four difit fees so it menas the developments are happening,so I don't think any other coin have the potential to beat bitcoin..

Well, i think bitcoin may not been replace in other currency because bitcoin is accepted in many countries and because of that there are more stores that will accept a bitcoin as payment, especially now that more people know about it and it will increase in everyday for sure.

For other altcoins, the amount of each altcoin is too low so the transaction will become much slower and the charge will be higher. So I think Bitcoin will still be in the top 1.

Seems like a very strange statement. I guess just a FUD topic. Since we do know who the developers are. And we do know they are putting in a lot of effort to advance bitcoin. I do think there is a bottleneck on expert blockchain developers who are working on Bitcoin, as there are now so many ICO'd companies who got a bunch of money to hire developers so it is pretty natural for people in Blockchain to go to a blockchain company for their full time work rather than simply volunteer to work for free on Bitcoin's open source software. Then again, companies come and go, Bitcoin will persist. Development is slower, partially due to the fact that they can't just break Bitcoin freely like altcoins and Bitcoin forks do, since its governance is decentralized unlike most of the other ones and so much money is in it. But when the companies behind all those altcoins and tokens and forks blow their money on developers and parties and their coin or application isn't adopted like they'd hoped (will happen to >90% of them) they will disappear and Bitcoin will still be plugging away on becoming the global payment network and store of value.

The only alternate coin that can replace bitcoin is Ethereum. We all know that the demand for ETH will always be there and it will continue to increase in the upcoming years. However, we can't be sure that it can replace bitcoin. The only thing that we can be sure of is that these two can co-exist. For bitcoin, we don't know if there are efforts made to improve it but we can notice the difference in convenience compare to few years ago. I think we can consider that as trying to improve. Almost any functionality that has been proven on an altcoin can eventually be added to Bitcoin, but it will only be added if the functionality does not impacoin to remain outside the control of individuals or organizations. In order for an upgrade to be accepted, a majority of the Bitcoin community must agree that ct decentralization, which allows Bitthe change is valid. In the coming months, we will see the results of a major enhancement to Bitcoin that will scale it to hundreds of transactions per second without impacting decentralization.

This may happen in the long future. However we need to realize that the bitcoin is the most reliable and stable coin in the cryptocurrency market right now. Bitcoin is supported by many giant currency exchanges and many industry whales. It has huge community support with more trust. The only way I see another crypto somewhat replacing Bitcoin is if the world eventually adopts a few different coins for a few different purposes. Like a Dapp coin, a store of value coin, a spending coin, a privacy coin. Though here I mean more like another coin working in tandem with Bitcoin, so Bitcoin would not actually be replaced.

In this scenario it is possible Bitcoin would be the store of value coin where people store their wealth to largely replace banks, like a savings account. And a stable coin would be used for actual transactions. This stable coin would need to be swappable with Bitcoin, over the LN?, so that you can quickly and cheaply convert between the two. This would solve all the problems of bitcoin as a global payment platform, while still keeping it as the base currency in which everyone stores their wealth.
