There is no direct correlation, but the price of Bitcoin significantly affects the prices of altcoins."It may be easy to convert it to altcoins, which is the reason for this effect."
If you follow this site -----> https://bitscreener.com (https://bitscreener.com), You'll find that some altcoins are high and the other reversed.
In general, yes, the change in the price of the bitcoin leads to a change in the prices of altcoins, not vice versa.

It depends on investors and circulation because Both Bitcoin and altcoins are buying the same people so Bitcoin is affected all the coins are similarly down in the market.
But most of the new investors only sell the Cryptocurrencies others are holding the investment so anytime it will going to moon.

There is no direct link between the two, in fact alt coin was made "alt" meaning other than something, making altcoin an alternative coin from Bitcoin. However like there is no direct way to buy some alternative coins yet, Bitcoin and also ETH becomes the tunnel or bridge to buy these coins, frankly. For investors to buy these coins, they buy BTC/ETH first before buying these coins they wanted to buy.

When I was still very new in it, I couldn't notice anything about it but now I have also noticed that when the price of bitcoin falls, it drops the prices of bitcoin. For the increase of bitcoin, I do not think it affects altcoin so much like it is for decrease.

Yes, it is. I am here from October 2017, I have read many articles, Researched by own and the result is,  Yes, Altcoins price based on bitcoin price. and the real fact is Bitcoin is the base of all crypto coins. If bitcoin down then every altcoin I mean the crypto market will down too. If bitcoin price will increase then the crypto market will pump too.

Yes, Generally speaking we can postulate that the price of Bitcoin is directly proportional to the price of any altcoin in the crypto market provided every other factor remain constant.  This means that if the price of Bitcoin increases the price of altcoin will also increases and vice versa. However there are few exceptions to the rule.

Bitcoin is the top currency, and others usually follow it, when it dips or spikes.

Correct. Because most altcoins trade against Bitcoin and only a few of them trade against USD as well. So price of Ardor for example is 0,00003390 BTC and not $0,254977 USD.
25 cents is just converted from that BTC price according to current Bitcoin value in dollars. So If Bitcoin falls for 20%, Ardor will fall for the same 20%, unless it goes up or down from those 3390 satoshi.

while analyzing this chart now, it's far clean there's a side-wards guide degree in play, which changed into likely liable for the down circulate pausing in Bitcoin -1.12% today. as it stands, the downtrend commenced, and the falling knife was simplest stuck at the side-wards guide line in which there was a bullish engulfing signal.

Yes you are right . If bitcoin goes down instantly all altcoins go down . Why ? The question is simple to answer because all altcoins are connected through pairs on each exchange such as BTC/NEO ; NEO/BTC etc

Asides that, I feel the whole thing have so much gotten to become an issue that most traders already fixed their mind to and with that sentiment ongoing every time, there would always be that pattern happening. There is already that generally spread mentality about bitcoin affecting the market either is a bear rally or bull rally, and it is usually negative, but traders are the ones who make quick decisions to opt out of alts in this kind of stuff so as to be able to gain a good ground with the knowledge that the alt market will start dropping anyway and this is the issue that makes supply to shoot up and then a lot of reds.

There is always some direct and indirect correlation between the two. In the last year there was completely different scenario of the bitcoin and altcoins. In that case when BTC used to go upward then ALT used to come down. Because people had feeling that this is the time when BTC wil profit more and thus they immediately used to sell the ALT and trade it to the BTC. Thus BTC used to spike even further. Vice versa was also true about this pair.

However after the 2018 things have changed, they have got directly proportional to each other and whenever there is downfall of the BTC then there is downfall of the ALT and vice versa. Why it is so, its difficult to say.

this is what you see if bitcoin price is falling down and the altcoin will follow down too. I think this will always happen like this in the future and since altcoin is adjusted their price with bitcoin, altcoin can down too deep if bitcoin is down for more. people hold altcoin because they want to make more bitcoin, but suddenly, bitcoin is getting down and they cannot sell their altcoin because this will makes them getting lost. so they should hold for a while until the altcoin price increases back.

Should not be. But I also have seen that.
I am trying to monitor one altcoin and as I my history says it looks like what you have said.
Leaning with bitcoin. No stand alone price. How could that be.
I am guessing because of the exchange. If you look at CMC, you will see there are just three conversions. USD, BTC an ETH. It is like because of this converting thing that we see the altcoins getting more dumped.
But there are some which does not. So I guess it will be investor thing ot the day trade could be the culprit.

I wont argue on your own view but its not totally right if you do really look closely on whats happening on the market then you would really able to identify that not all altcoins would really depend or correlate with bitcoins price since there are coins which do able to rise up or pump when bitcoin price is on decline, not all coins are dependent on bitcoin already which they do have different market but when it comes to dominance on the entire cap then bitcoin would still always be on the lead and theres no doubt on that.,

It can be said that if Bitcoin increases then all in this market will increase and vice versa. I think this market still depends heavily on Bitcoin and we need to get rid of this. For me, all coins that need more USDT currency pairs will probably be better because when Bitcoin prices drop, all coins will not be affected much.

Both have deflationary properties, with supply set steadily tapering up to the next few years so the price of both is almost the same in terms of not quantity but rising and falling prices.

Indirectly yes, directly no.

Each altcoin in the long run follows the order of development and thus depending upon which there are more or less investors that pops in. This gives the project different lead and then from there onwards altcoins starts getting the different prices.

What we see in the market on daily basis is just the ups and downs of the whole market capitalism thats causing them (BTC & LTC) to go up and down all the time.

Its not really related with BTC or ALT.

yes, what you're saying is true and I agree with you. and if we can see in the market, whenever bitcoin is down, there will be any altcoin that still increases and the price does not depend on bitcoin price. and usually, the trend of this coins is not correlated with bitcoin price and its changing by itself. I see the coins like this is available on bittrex and other exchanges and it is not adjusted with bitcoin price.

Most altcoins are sold through btc and eth with a certain exchange rate, so it's natural that the price of btc decreases will affect the price of the altcoins, which will also reduce the price. In addition, investment in the altcoins is also through investment or otherwise buying btc firstly.

To some extent, we can say that the market value of rest of the crypto coins which are there in the crypto market depends on the value of the bitcoin at any moment. The only reason behind this is that bitcoin is the backbone of the entire crypto market and that at time when the market value of the bitcoin rises higher, it encourages the investors to invest in other crypto coins as well which results in rise in their market value.

Altcoin price has own promotion while Bitcoin has its own promotion but as we know that both are cryptocurrencies and are the composition of this modern market, so if these two fluctuates the other cryptocurrencies will fluctuates and will affect each other.

In order to remove these affects Bitcoin and other coins are trying hard to remove all these affects. Change in Bitcoin does affect the Altcoin up to great extent but the market thinks the same about other cryptocurrencies if one is with some problem.

Most of the investments and funding done into alts are through BTC ;) (and LTC and ETH- but these got their first funding through BTC again)
But i predict when some alts get their fundamentals so steady they gain their independence and won't correlate with BTC so much anymore. And they independently start to fluctuate other alts ;)

Whenever BTC falls the alts follow and the worst case scenario is when BTC gets back to green alts do but in a slowly and irritating one. Same principle for trading BTC is used to buy other coins and their value is depend upon the BTC all the time

indeed in these last months bitcoin prices and all altcoin have a very sharp decline. but in my opinion bitcoin price down does not have the same effect altcoin price drop in bitcoin prices can be influenced as much or at least the investors. the price of bitcoin can be caused by less its investors and also because there are negative issues about bitcoin.

The cost of BTC can only indirectly affect the cost of alcoins. Provided that the total capitalization does not change, and the investment will only flow into another crypto currency.

Bitcoin is the top coin that is being traded by most of crypto users, that's why the altcoins are depending on bitcoin's price. Its like you are knowing the price of a certain product from every country, and you'll get to know that the price is this from this country and this and this then you'll know the price that you should give it to yours.

True, it may look like that when bitcoin price changes, the altcoin prices changes too but it doesn't work this way. Bitcoin prices only have an affect on altcoin prices, sometimes there are altcoins who would retain their good prices even if bitcoin is at dump giving the investors option whether to invest on it or not. Every digital coin is volatile and even if bitcoin is reigning as the number one crypto, price is still based on how a specific token is lose/gain investors in the market.

I do not think, however, also implicitly affect each other indirectly because if the bitcoin price is reduced then the price may also be the other can also increase but more or less affect the psychology of investors and do somewhat market fluctuations

Most altcoins are priced on the BTC, so when Bitcoin changes, altcoin fluctuates. So when trading with each other with ALT / BTC pairs, investors should pay attention to the value of BTC.
It can be true because bitcoin is the first digital currency that was invented and still bitcoin is supporting other coins as when bitcoin rise in value people start thinking positive about all crypto currency and altcoins, so bitcoin is mother of all altcoins if bitcoin will be high and valuable the whole crypto world will remain high but if bitcoin will fall people won’t trust any crypto then so try to keep bitcoin at top.

It is not totally true that altcoins prices are depended on bitcoin, though bitcoin price movement can have effect on altcoins direction but altcoins derived it own price base on value of the coins.
In that case, all if have to say is just observe the market. Observe the fluctuations of bitcoin and look at its impact on the whole digital market. Let’s not get too far into the past and take the example of most recent bullish and bearish behaviour. In December 2017, when BTC touched 20k dollars, all altcoins were also on their highest values. Similarly, the whole digital market got red when BTC started declining.

I think that it is based on general investments in the whole cryptocurrency market, i think that whenever bitcoin goes up it raises the attention of investors who will go and invest in this market which will make the prices of other cryotocrrencies rise as well, this was the case last year when bitcoin was the thing that everyone talked about for a while and when ICOs launched they were successful and people invested a lot of them, because they realize how much money they can make from investing in cryptocurrency.

As far as i know, there no relation between bitcoin price and altcoin. But the bitcoin price may influence altcoin price. The tendency of altcoin price going down when the bitcoin price going up is 80%, because everybody sell their altcoin to have bitcoin, and the contrary also be like that, when the bitcoin price going down, the altcoin price will going up because the trader think that is good time to trade altcoin.

Yes, this is a market that can be called interconnected, the other coin is based on the BTC or ETH platform, these are the two strongest coins on the market and once the BTC price increases, other coins also increased. I think that this is hardly going to change their prices. There are not any coin operated independently.

Yes the price of altcoins is indirectly based on the price of bitcoin, what it happens is that even right now the market dominance of bitcoin is huge and many think the market dominance is keep artificially low which means the dominance should be a lot higher so when bitcoin moves it moves all the market along with it whether you like it or not.

Altcoin prices dropping as bitcoin prices decrease is fundamental. This is the process of cutting the investor's double hole: D
It is not that bad but yes, altcoins are always depending on bitcoin for their increase and decrease. Who are investing into altcoins are still somehow depending on bitcoin for their good retunes. This is the reason people prefer keeping both the master and the slave. It is a great combination for long term investments and trading at the same time. I am in favor of investing equally in both coins.

indeed in these last months bitcoin prices and all altcoin have a very sharp decline. but in my opinion bitcoin price down does not have the same effect altcoin price drop in bitcoin prices can be influenced as much or at least the investors. the price of bitcoin can be caused by less its investors and also because there are negative issues about bitcoin.

We know that the market has the support of a valuable coin that is called Bitcoin and this coin if fluctuates its affect is on other cryptocurrencies as well because this is a mind game as well, if the market is positive and encourages people to buy the coins then the demand will go on increasing. Conversely, if the market has negativities then demand will decrease and all the crypto currencies will affect a little. But we know that the market is positive and people will see the increase trend soon as the market demand rate in increasing.

Bitcoin has some influence over the market value of the altcoins and rest of the crypto coins which are there in this world. That is because of the reason that bitcoin is the backbone of the entire crypto industry and that things goes up and down with the increase or decrease in the market value of the bitcoin. Title: Re: Altcoin price based on bitcoin price?
Post by: fasdorcas on June 02, 2018, 10:47:26 AM
There is no direct link between the two, in fact alt coin was made "alt" meaning other than something, making altcoin an alternative coin from Bitcoin. However like there is no direct way to buy some alternative coins yet, Bitcoin and also ETH becomes the tunnel or bridge to buy these coins, frankly. For investors to buy these coins, they buy BTC/ETH first before buying these coins they wanted to buy.
There is and the correlation is made by traders. I have this believe as a trader that when bitcoin is in a down trend or showing some huge bear rally, altcoins will end up moving down as well as traders will quickly want to take some profit in such scenario from bitcoin, and the same thing happens to in a huge bull rally.

Now, if I think like this as one trader, imagine how others are thinking as well. Same, right? Take it or leave it, bitcoin has a lot to do generally in the market movement.

There seems to be a trend where the altcoins follow Bitcoin so when Bitcoin rises, altcoins rise and when Bitcoin drops, altcoins drop as well. That’s just what I tend to see generally, but there are outliers. As Bitcoin’s dominance drops, I don’t think we will see altcoins tied to Bitcoin quite as much but I think the cryptocurrency markets will always be affected when there are general issues that influence the whole sector.

I dont think that it is true. Bitcoin is parent coin and stuff is all okay but just because it was first to arrive doesn't mean that it gives rise to the prices of altcoins. Thats completely wrong one and what factors decide the prices of altcoins is different story. The news, investors, development are major factors who decide the ultimate fate of the altcoin prices. Bitcoin never hampers the prices of altcoins and it will never do that. When we see prices dropping along with the bitcoin then it is nothing but whole market cap drop.

The market value of the bitcoin really matters a lot and that the market value of this crypto coin also effects the market value of rest of the crypto coins and that this is what happening at this very moment. One of the main reason which is bringing down the market value of all the altcoins is the downfall in the market value of the bitcoin as it gives a bad impression to all the investors who are there in the crypto world.

With the development in the cryptocurrency world so far, I would say there is a correlation when it comes to the movement. Although it is not supposed to be, but I guess since most of the alts are tagged in a way to bitcoin and traders just simply want to keep using their alt position to gain more position in bitcoin, there would always be the possibility of seeing this happen. Although, it has become a norm that every trader already think will happen and that simply on its own affects the market.

Yes, altcoin price is based on bitcoin price. They are mostly attached in a way to the value of bitcoin and that makes them to respond based on that as well. Most of the time, you cannot always predict the direction of bitcoin, but it is easier to predict the direction of altcoin quickly with bitcoin movement. However, it is not all of them that will always follow that path but just few of the alts will be in green at most times when btc is in red.

The prices of altcoin is depending on Bitcoin prices. But now the things are changing, there are few coins which are surviving independent in the market like Ethereum, Bitcoin cash. These dependency happens due to two reason, one is the alts are generally new to the market and people don't have that trust as they have in old coins like Bitcoin and now ethereum also.Second thing is Lack of information in people. They are still few people who don't even know what there are few other coins other than bitcoin.Things are changing slowly and impact of alts has increased considerably after this fall of Bitcoin.

Nowadays, often we have noticed the thing is changing. Sometime some alts rise quite high even when BTC falls. I agree with many who wrote, "it will change". Things are already changing and as months are passing by people will more understand the system and things will gradually become better. Traders I guess just fear the fall of BTC and it frightens them to sell off their alts as well. This are changing, being in various trading groups I see people re changing. They trade in altcoins more when BTC is falling.

Its not 100% true at all. They never follow each other because there price dependency is merely a hypothesis of current market reaction. All atlcoins have there different modes of development and depending upon which they will get different output in terms of market cap, investors support and thus prices move accordingly.

What we see on regularly basis is the whole market cap moving up and down and thus total market and including all the altcoins within it decides the prices. We feel that bitcoin is being followed, but its not.

Right but I would not count bitcoin cash as those among the independent coins anyway. The fact is there are still some coins with very strong support and less of huge volatility based on bitcoin movement and this is because they simply have real life usage but if we are really to look at the perception of the overall market, bitcoin still do have some impact on their prices as well. Hopefully, things will get to change over time maybe when the market starts getting to have some real life usage.

Yes,altcoin is base on bitcoin price.because bitcoin is the mother of all coins.not all but majority is base on it.so if the price of btc is down then many altcoin is also down their value.

Well it's true that it's not true that the value of the altcoin are dependent on the value of bitcoin but somehow at the current situation of the cryptocurrencies we couldn't avoid to think that yes it could be dependable upon the situation of bitcoin today. And I'd still believe that bitcoin is the most profitable coin of all crypto that's why value of altcoin is somehow dependent on it.

Yes, exactly, altcoin prices depends from Bitcoin, so if you look at BTC price going up or down, you can see the same with altcoin too. In some cases, altcoin price also depends from market buy or sale trends, but mainly all altcoins depends from Bitcoin.  ;)

Certainly, all coin's price based on Bitcoin. But this isn't a good thing, because when Bitcoin falls every market turns red.
For that developers should create altcoins which don't depend on Bitcoin or other things.

Altcoins are always based on bitcoin. When bitcoin falls alts fall most of the times. When bitcoin goes up, in a bull market alts again falls. If it's a bear market like the present market, with pump in bitcoin price, alts also moves upwards. A stable BTC market is always good for alts.
Bitcoin being the king literally effects all coins with its movement. It will be good if btc movements doesn't effect alts.

It can be seen that bitcoin prices are in the down cycle in the long term and this will cause altcoin to keep falling very deep in the coming time so you need to be careful when trading altcoin.

That's right. Bitcoin is one ancient coin and its importance in the crypto market makes it almost an influencer for altcoins. This is what you notice whenever you look at the trends, when bitcoin either falls or rises the altcoins follow suit.

One of the principal reasons why Altcoin and Bitcoin charges are intrinsically tied is because in most exchanges, the most famous trading pairs are of the shape altcoin/bitcoin. During most of the cryptocurrency trades, you purchase/promote altcoin using bitcoin and vice versa. Bitcoin is essentially the USD of cryptocurrency. when USD falls or rises, every currency takes successful in some way. Its some thing comparable with Bitcoin.

Yeah, things are gradually beginning to change and things would even change better when we start seeing some coins and tokens with prospect having real life usage as this would make it easy for them to be able to get their own demand and support to bring about its increase in value.

Till now we know the market is more driven by speculation which is why it is so easy to see the market react quickly to bitcoin movement but nothing in this life will ever remain the same, most especially as it gets more matured.

Proceeding from this, there can be no decentralization, because in any case there is the possibility of market manipulation. First and foremost, large whales that feed on all the bitcoins from the wallet of ordinary users, to buy the consequences for a cheap price.

You can see that the current market is fluctuating at bitcoin prices, only a small bitcoin adjustment will cause altcoin to adjust, so when trading altcoin you need to always observe and track bitcoin prices. The market is bearish in the long run so bitcoin prices may continue to decline at any time, you should be careful in every transaction.

Only if you look at it in USD value not in Crypto ,
If the value of Bitcoin in Fiat drops down then the value of alt-coin in Fiat would also drops down,
We could see some alt-coin that is gaining some increase but if you look at it in USD the price would still be the same or the price drops down because Bitcoin value in USD drops down.

i think it is because of a dominance of bitcoin in a market. almost all coin follow bitcoin price about rising and fall but remember it's not all coin.
The dominance has even reduced than before but I see that as a general mentality of the market which affects traders generally when it comes to making altcoin investment decisions.

Beyond all these, I see it more like most traders trying to use the market to increase either their bitcoin or fiat position and in every case, where bitcoin is down, they simply take profit quickly from altcoins and stay out in fiat until further notice and when bitcoin is in a bull run, they simply take profit as well from alts to be a part of the bitcoin long profit.

What I think is that the price of Bitcoins is connected with the economy of the country and festive season and everything else.
And so the same things applies to altcoins too, therefore it's not wrong to say that the price of Bitcoins and altcoins is interrelated , since the price are based on the same things.
It's not directly connected but it's more like if A is related to B , and C is related to B too then both A and B are related.

EOS and ETH clearly show some signs of independence from time to time. The rule will be broken some day.
Yeah, and even at that, there are still sometime they still respond pretty fast to the move in the market.
There is no doubt though that some of the coins in the market so far are actually trying to stay independent based on the support they have, but that still does not mean they are totally independent and for anyone to just simply be relaxed.

For ETH though, it sure seems like it is really doing great on its own so far.

There was a time in last year, when these two are used to be reciprocal of one another. But now, they seems to be directly proportional. Increased bitcoin prices have made the altcoin prices are recovering very strongly. Bitcoin price hugely affects the price of almost any cryptocurrencies, and the only one underlying reason of it is almost all the cryptocurrencies are bought through the Bitcoin, that's why once the Bitcoin drops down, then all the market goes red. It can't be applied vice versa. Current situation on the market is really strange and horrible because you are uncertain of your trades and you can't raise money normally. idk, right now I'm HODLing only, because I know that in just 1 year I'll be able to sell those tokens that I bought on ICOs with high price. Actually I really advice you to put your attention on the project which is called Cryptics, these guys have developed an AI based Trading platfrm which is able to predict the prices of different cryptocurrency assets. THey gonna have the 2nd ICO round soon, I've invested there already.

Due to the fact that Bitcoin is a basic asset for almost all altcoins, the correlation between them is very large. While Bitcoin's dominance in the market will remain at the same high level, the trend will continue to exist. I think everything will change with the development of other basic and strong cryptocurrencies.

I believe on what i have to observe also that this ks actually depends on or this is affect the price too of bitcoin for what may ever have to happen also in altcoin , but even though it may happen for we should be always make some study before we judge for what we see is what we can actually believe.

Actualy based on this instances theres are times that we considered that if theres something happen to the price value of bitcoin the altcoins could also been affected but not totally thats the all price of altcoins  is based on the price of bitcoin, but its true that once the bitcoins price is dump all altcoins is been caried away and vice versa will happen of its pump in the market, thats why i must define that bitcoin is the mainstream of  cryptocurrency investment

The relationship between bitcoin prices and most other crypto-currencies is direct. This means that with the growth of prices for bitcoin, prices for altcoins also increase, and vice versa. The most dependent on the bitcoin prices are the prices for Litecoin, DASH and Monero. However, to confirm that the prices of altcoins are completely based on the price of bitcoin is erroneous. There are always exceptions, such as, for example, Ripple.

You can see that over the last few years altcoin prices are on a bitcoin basis, bitcoin prices are rising and bitcoin prices are down, altcoin prices are down.

Bitcoin is the roots of crypto market and it has affects on people which make different perception is different times. When the value is down then we see negative perceptions and when it is fine and goes high then we see positive perceptions. So with these changing the other cryptocurrencies are also affecting little and this is due to thee same nature of cryptocurrencies.

This is because most altcoin prices depend on the price of the BTC, when the BTC increases or decreases, the price of the altcoin is proportional to the BTC. I think coin prices are tight.

I agree.I think there is really a special connection between the two cryptos.Although they have different potentials respectively, but when it comes to the price movement in the market, they both follow the same trend. When bitcoin starts to recover its price,we may expect that it will also give a positive effect on the side of the altcoins.

Due to the fact that Bitcoin is a basic asset for almost all altcoins, the correlation between them is very large. While Bitcoin's dominance in the market will remain at the same high level, the trend will continue to exist. I think everything will change with the development of other basic and strong cryptocurrencies.
The correlation is simply because of how traders perceive the market generally. Altcoins are more like a pump and dump market and most times, since the perception has been like traders quick to dump altcoins for bitcoin in a case where they can move into fiat when bitcoin is going down, or simply get into bitcoin in a bull run, makes it impossible for the altcoins not to suffer from any serious huge movement from bitcoin like someone stated. This makes it more like the altcoins getting the hit most of the time based on bitcoin's movement.

yes, you are right but there are some of the altcoins that do not get the effect from bitcoin price. and if bitcoin price is up or down, this altcoin is just stayed in the price level and only up and down if there are many people wants to invest this coin. but for the other coins will follow wherever bitcoin price goes and will adjust their price with bitcoin price too. and it is because bitcoin is lead the altcoin in cryptocurrency world and bitcoin itself is moving because of supply and demand and the news is out there.

You can see that the market is fluctuating at bitcoin prices, only a small adjustment of bitcoin prices can cause the market fluctuations.

If bitcoin increases then the altcoin price can recover and if the bitcoin price decreases then the market will decrease accordingly. You can see that clearly when the price of bitcoin fell sharply from the $ 19800 threshold and since then to the moment the market is seriously reduced.

When I was still very new in it, I couldn't notice anything about it but now I have also noticed that when the price of bitcoin falls, it drops the prices of bitcoin. For the increase of bitcoin, I do not think it affects altcoin so much like it is for decrease.
I believe that if you join the crypto market a few years ago, you may find that the price of bitcoin is down, the price of altcoin is not likely to decrease and may increase, but in the current time in the first half of 2018 Bitcoin prices are likely to fall sharply, and the market capitalization will fall sharply. I believe that at this time, things are very much influenced by bitcoin prices and only a small fluctuation can cause altcoin prices to fall sharply.

I don't really understand how the altcoins rate can be tied to the bitcoin rate? They have different blockchain, different owners, different goals...However,we see altcoins falling with bitcoin or growing with it. I'm confused...
I think it is just because the Bitcoin holds a huge share in the crypto market and it can be thought of as monopoly vs. a small firm. If the large firm decreases the prices, people will shift to the large firm and the small firm will not be able to set as much costumers as before nor would they be able to lower the prices below their marginal cost. Having said this we are in a position to say that Bitcoin moves the market and has an influence on the rest of the crypto currencies.

Actually Bitcoin is the main cryptocurrency due to which crypto market started and this is the whole image of the crypto market if any change occurs in the Bitcoin it affects the other cryptocurrencies. if the market value increases and makes better image then the other cryptocurrencies will also get better with it. On the other hand it affects conversely if the Bitcoin value decreases.

Yes, the altcoins price is really depends on the market movement of bitcoins  once price of bitcoin fluctuate other coins will also follow.
This can be said in the sense if you look at the market portion captured by Bitcoin; it is far more than that held by altcoin. Also the market cap matters a lot. Having said that, we can say any movement in the Bitcoin market can also affect the other crypto in the market. With the passage of time, as the prices appreciates for Bitcoin, the remaining crypto will follow.

Most crypto pairings are done against BTC and ETH. To know the value of your tokens when you're selling it you are likely to convert it to BTC or ETH. This makes altcoins quite dependent on BTC.

only some altcoin that can do this and the rest still getting down if bitcoin is going down. bitcoin still be used as the adjustment price for every altcoin and the altcoin like or not will follow to wherever bitcoin goes and still behind of bitcoin. there are many people that will sell their altcoin if bitcoin is down because they think that the altcoin that they have will get down too far so they don't want to get more losses. they think that it is better to hold bitcoin than altcoin because their losses will not bigger if they not hold the altcoin.

Title: Re: Altcoin price based on bitcoin price?

This is because most altcoin prices depend on the price of the BTC, when the BTC increases or decreases, the price of the altcoin is proportional to the BTC. I think coin prices are tight.
AS far as I understand, this is just because of the share of the market held by Bitcoin which has actually enabled Bitcoin to take and carry the market with its self when there is price appreciation. Also the rise in the prices of Bitcoin gives the general perception that the prices of the other currencies having low worth will also go up as a result of which people invest in them as well which actually pushes the price up.

At first, I think that altcoin prices are heavily dependent on bitcoin, but the fact is not, altcoin and bitcoin have similar properties, namely supply and demand. The amount of supply and demand depends on the activities of each community, both bitcoin nor altcoin communities. So basically, the price of cryptocurrency's largely determined by most of its users.

Yes, it is true. Basically, all kinds of crypto-currency are repeating the price movements of bitcoin. This is due to the high level of bitcoin capitalization compared to other types of crypto currency. The higher the level of bitcoin capitalization, the stronger its dominance over the rest of the crypto currency. Therefore, in order to ensure that this effect does not exist, bitcoin should not differ greatly in the level of capitalization over the altcoyins.

And if bitcoin going up, it's the same situation for altcoin that will be falling down.

But not all altcoin are go to the flow of bitcoin their still few coin going up even bitcoin price are in falling down situation but in over all if bitcoin going down then altcoin go to flow at the same time I think because of btc pair in the market.

The whole crypto market is mainly dominated by Bitcoin. As of now BTC dominance in the market has rose to 42.7%. So, it greatly affects the price of all the altcoins when BTC moves, be it up or down. When Bitcoin goes down the whole market crashes along with it and when it goes up all I can see is green everywhere in the market.
Bitcoin is the main power of the crypto market which includes the Altcoin as well which is less valuable coin however price of many currencies or coins in the crypto market alters with the Bitcoin. It needs a mindset which is depending upon the market situations as we know that different market situations have different negative and positive perceptions so with these changes other currencies also affect a little.

Totally dominated and we can say that is because with bitcoin being the first, it has more community of supporters than any other coin who are more like die-hard fans.

Most times, altcoins only do better with bitcoin in some sort of consolidation, but every other huge movement in bitcoin affects altcoin pretty badly and that for now is something we just have to keep dealing with until further notice probably when altcoins will be able to stand on their own, but for now, Bitcoin depicts the market movement.

I think that is the general decline of electronic coins. No need to relate to each other because the entire market is down
Yes both of them are defect but to some extent bitcoin has the power of changing the price of other altcoins because bitcoin is the first digital currency which was invented and after that all of the altcoins ash come into being, so I think if the price of bitcoin will be down and people will say negative about bitcoin then all other altcoins will be down automatically.

I believe all Alt coins are heavily influenced by the market price of Bitcoin and Ethereum.
Considering most Alt coins have their equivalent prices in Bitcoin and Ethereum are moreso run on both Bitcoin and Ethereum blockchain.
Therefore, with this immediately the price of either Bitcoin or Ethereum goes down such All coins will be significantly affected.
Likewise it vise versa.

Bitcoin is known as base currency which has control over other cryptocurrencies on the basis of its affects. Altcoin and other best coins moves with the Bitcoin as explained due to its base currency honor.

In my own opinion, altcoins price is not exact based on bitcoins but most of the ico tokents today are based on ethereum which is tether to bitcoins and that is the reason why every cryptocurrency is affected when the price of bitcoins decreases in the market.

some of the altcoin based their price with bitcoin and they watch the bitcoin price for the adjustment. as we can see in the market, many altcoins are getting down when bitcoin price is down and will follow to go up when bitcoin price is up too. this will always happen and it will like this in the future as long as bitcoin still leading the altcoin, altcoin will base their price with bitcoin unless there is a new technology that will better than bitcoin then maybe cryptocurrency will change to something new.
When the price of bitcoin drops you should invest in very low price coins because they have very little or no effect of bitcoin price. Already their prices are very low. How much they will drop more. I think small coins are good for small investors because small coins have great potential and you can make big money if the price increases a little bit.

a portion of the altcoin based their cost with bitcoin and they watch the bitcoin cost for the change. as should be obvious in the market, numerous altcoins are getting down when bitcoin cost is down and will take after to go up when bitcoin cost is up as well. this will dependably happen and it will like this later on as long as bitcoin as yet driving the altcoin, altcoin will base their cost with bitcoin except if there is another innovation that will superior to bitcoin then perhaps digital currency will change to something new.

Bitcoin price influence largely the price of all altcoin in the market. This is the fact that we trader will look upon to. The movement of btc makes the altcoin follow on the direction where it heading. Maybe because btc was uses to peer all altcoin in the market. Furthermore, newcomers use bitcoin as a gateway to cryptocurrency.

I think that is really the case because as we can see, if bitcoin price falls down, alts also seems to follow down and vice versa. That's simply because bitcoin is the base currency of the cryptomarket and alt coins have a pairing value with bitcoin. Is price of the altcoin is based on price of the bitcoin?I have noticed the price of bitcoin falling down for past few days on same the price of altcoins are also falling down

Since the creation of alternate coins (altcoins) were based on bitcoin itself (which was the first cryptocurrency ever), some altcoins have this direct-proportional relationship with its market value with bitcoin. If a country prohibits the utilization and use of bitcoin, this implies that altcoins would soon follow the trend and eventually lose its value slowly. Although this happens frequently in the market, some altcoins have their established values which are separated from the events happening in bitcoin (i.e. Ethereum).

Obviously. The price of the altcoins are depending on bitcoin. If the price goes down then price of altcoin also gets down. There is a connection of them directly or indirectly.

Altcoin and other best coins moves with the Bitcoin as explained due to its base currency honor.

Most of the time it happens but there are some altcoins that show green positive remarks despite bitcoin falling down in the market. I think that the reason on why that happened is due to some prohibitions made to bitcoin that resulted to some investors shifting their interest towards another coin.

This is still an enigma that is to be solved. Some people say bitcoins and altcoin are totally independent from one another and some say the opposite. They establish an inverse relation between these two. Now, this must be solved by the development teams of these both type of coin family. Only then a solid and authentic answer can be obtained. Waiting for them to respond.

Maybe it is. One thing I have come to notice about all these altcoins is that they follow the Bitcoin price; they go down when ever Bitcoin is going down and when Bitcoin is going up a few of them usually follows and some of them still continue to fall, but will only rise when Bitcoin is on a normal fluctuation.

So that means that whenever the price of Bitcoin is going up, altcoins investors will sell out to get the opportunity of invest in in Bitcoin, and when the price of Bitcoin is going down, they will also do the same thing cause the price of altcoins will be going down too. That’s why I’m used to Bitcoin mainly.

All altcoin trade with Bitcoin or Ethereum. So I could give an example to understand the price. Now today Bitcoin price is $6500 so, chose an altcoin like Litecoin, so at the same day litecoin price is: 0.01223610 (BTC), now convert this price in USD and remember, after few days Bitcoin price is $6000 and the Litecoin price is 0.01223610 and convert this price in USD then you can see USD price is different. Although you are right that when we can see the BTC price decline then altcoin also. But it's not only the reason it's the global reason.

There are many other coins just like Altcoin which are also less valuable and affect is also there but this is looking unknown thing to all of us because sources are different but affect is same. Besides these all Bitcoin is a base currency which has control and affect over other currencies as well and this is due to the same nature of cryptocurrencies as these all are digital and have same perception for people.

I think this is true.
Whenever the bitcoin price goes down, it almost pulls the entire market down under it. So I think bitcoin has great influence on the price of the altcoin coin.

It is really not news anymore since the market generally is known to dance to the tune of the master bitcoin.

It has been like that for a very long time now and that to me, is simply because a lot of traders perceive altcoin as a way to just make some pretty good money from the market in the long run and nothing so serious at the end of it all when it comes to holding for long term, except few, which is what makes it easy for them to be used to increase their bitcoin and for the fact that we have most of them as btc pair anyway.

I think this topic is right for margin trading because when bitcoin falls, The price of altcoins is also falling so I think just following all price of altcoins in bitcoin price.

Yeah, and most times, a lot of traders these days make use of bitcoin to determine the possibility of movement of altcoins and simply use that as a means to trade the market to their advantage. Even when altcoins are so sold out, the only way they can get to pick up is when bitcoin hits a stage of uptrend from a downtrend with some pretty slow movement, in this way, altcoins usually get to move like dogs that ended up being unleashed after so many years.
Usually altcoins will find their own value only they are having any real life usage. ETH must be a good example here. Even bitcoin was falling it kept rising to touch $1200 levels regard less of what BTC was being valued.

The most of altcoins are traded for Bitcoin, which means you can only buy them (or sell) using Bitcoin. If the Bitcoin price drops down you can usually observe the same move in regard to the altcoin price chart. Also altcoins are (usually) crypto currencies. Therefore alt’s prices will react the same way as Bitcoin in case of government regulations (or macroeconomic factors) concerning crypto currencies.

It have the most dominance and controls the cryptocurrency market. Where there is rise in bitcoin, altcoins bleed and when bitcoin falls in price altcoins also bleeds. If you follow bitcoin chart you will notice thats altcoins follows the pattern of its chart. Altcoins only increases when bitcoin maintains and halts its movement.

There are many Altcoin / Bitcoin trading pairs on the exchange. When they make a profit from the altcoin trade, they will sell them off bitcoin. When bitcoin prices are likely to drop then altcoin go to drop too dramatically due to a sell-off, there are very few coffins with altcoin/usdt trading on the market today.

Altcoins prices are not directly based on bitcoins but it was based on ethereum and eth coin is tether to bitcoins that's why all the prices in the market is dropping when bitcoins is decreasing its price.

Bitcoin's price movement generally affects altcoin prices. Especally now increase of alts value is highly correlated with the increase of BTC.
If you look at the current price movement, then your opinion is very much blamed. The bitcoin price rises by itself is not accompanied by some altcoin. Bitcoin prices rise due to information about ETFs and make significant price increases.
The market value of bitcoin does affect the market value of altcoin and rest of the crypto coins but the influence of bitcoin over other crypto currencies is not that much significant as most of the people think of it to be. It is the demand of the altcoin and the overall market cap which decides the market value of any of the crypto coin and that the market value of altcoin is increasing higher because of the higher demand.

Alts do not only have their prices based on bitcoin lately, we do see them on their dollar value as well. Which can be really useful for people who are not from usa because dollar is really valuable compared to many countries.
For example when bitcoin was worth 20k back in december, it was worth x in my country, now if bitcoin worths 15k it will worth x in my country all the same. So when crypto currencies worths some amount in dollar value when you convert it to your own countries currency it is actually not losing value its actually gaining value.

Besides other things people have a perception about the cryptocurrency not just for Bitcoin but these all are digital which are of same nature so improvement in one brings improvement in other as well.

We know that Bitcoin is base currency and all the crypto coins are of same nature that is its digital form. Now Bitcoin has great importance and whenever the price of Bitcoin alters then it has a clear affect on Altcoin as well due to the same nature it causes same perception. Now Bitcoin’s price is on its ways towards high target which will bring success for Bitcoin’s users.

You could say that bitcoin price is partly responsible for altcoin price, as you can see when market or btc in particular is down/up you will predict that the altcoins will soon go to the direction where bitcoin is going. If you want to see a big move in altcoins bitcoin needs to be stable in his price action so that investors can pour their money into altcoins. Bitcoin is still the king of the cryptoverse and altcoins need to go down their knees if bitcoin want it. lol :)

Yes in my opinion it happened because Bitcoin is the center of all Altcoins currently in circulation. Bitcoin can be mentioned is the Mother of all coins. so if the price of Bitcoin falls all prices of Altcoin will drop following it, that's because traders sell their Altcoin for their bitcoin.

The price is not entirely related to this, but since many altcoins are priced in Satoshi, we can say that every price movement indirectly reflects here. We can often encounter situations such as adverse reactions when there are very severe fluctuations, but we can see that there are intense changes in standard price fluctuations depending on the price of Bitcoin. In particular, it is possible to say that USD-based pricing is almost one-to-one followed and that different price fluctuations create similar effects.

I also do notice this thing and yes its true. Bitcoin is so dumped right now and most alts dumped too. But when bitcoin is so high like last year, alts also become high.
It will be good if btc movements doesn't effect alts.

the altcoin will adjust their price with bitcoin price and if bitcoin price is down, the altcoin will decrease too so you need to check the altcoin price before you decide to buy the altcoin. as we see on the market, the altcoin now is down too deep because of bitcoin price is down too deep but I am sure that in one day, the altcoin and bitcoin price will increase again. so I think we need to use this opportunity to buy bitcoin and altcoin as the price is on the bottom price so we can expect to make a big profit in the future.

yes you are altcoin for now depending on the price of bitcoin, when the price movement of bitcoin has decreased then the price of altcoin will also fall and when the price of bitcoin is rising then the price of altcoin will also experience price increases.
This is not necessary and Altcoin are not stick with the Bitcoin but these have the same nature therefore when we have a lot of negativity in the market then we avoid to invest in this same nature coins. In this way the market value falls for both besides this there is nothing but the Bitcoin is a base currency and this produce same perception for other coins as well.

the rise and fall of altcoin prices is still influenced by the price of bitcoin and you can see it on almost all exchanges, but on USDT coins it is the opposite. when bitcoin and altcoin fell the USDT had a tendency to increase and I often bought these coins when the prices of bitcoin and altcoin fell, after recovery I would again sell USDT and buy altcoins

Not for all-time, But most of the time altcoin price depends on the bitcoin price ups and down! If bitcoin price increases then all altcoin price will grow too, If BTC price goes down then the whole crypto market will show a downward trend. Because bitcoin is the ruler of the crypto market and crypto depends on the bitcoin.

It is not the Altcoin price will automatically to go with the Bitcoin price but it is the people who rides with the Bitcoin price movement. I don't know the main reason of this but i have observed many times that Bitcoin will create domino effect with the market price, maybe if most of the altcoins are directly accepted in all exchanges then maybe they will not rely on Bitcoin movement anymore.

Sure. There is a strong relationship between them. You can take easy decision if you see this coin relationship. ALT and BTC ratio decrease if ALT coin value drops and if BTC coin value goes up. Same things just opposite ALT and BTC ratio increase if ALT coins value increase and BTC coins value decreases. If you watch market daily or read the history for all coins than it will be so clear to understand.
I believe that altcoin price is always depending on th ebitcoin price. And we can all see it from the past few years. Bitcoin is really amazing it is the most popular and profitable coin and I believe that it is the center of the crypto market. So if bitcoin is falling the effect of it in altcoin and some other crypto coin is also a huge dip.
I don’t understand why these two coins (BTC % ALT) depend on each other? It should be different from each other because I think it should depend on the investment cap. If people put their money in bitcoin the price of only bitcoin should increase and if the investment cap of Altcoin increases only the price of Altcoin should increase.

Yes, BUT! There is still such a thing as bitcoin dominance. This is the dominance of bitcoin over other crypto currencies. Last time we see that bitcoin dominance is very large as a percentage of other altcoins. What does this mean? that investors believe more in bitcoin than in other assets.
Bitcoin is basically the parent of all the violas, respectively, and pulls the rest. But the problem lies also in the fact that bitcoin can rise from its knees, and some altkoins are no longer there.

I think it is but not all altcoins will follow if the bitcoin's price will increase. I notice that the price of my altcoins in my portfolio are increasing once the bitcoins price is increasing. Altcoins which paired by bitcoin in the crypto markets will be affected but not all the time, because there are some altcoins which don't go with the flow on bitcoin's price instead they are reserved.

Yeah it is right because the market cap of bitcoin is very high and most of the people invest their money in bitcoin. When the price of bitcoin increases Altcoin prices also increases, and when bitcoin prices decreases, Altcoin prices also decreases. I think it is not good and both should be treated differently. well, I guess some coins are not affected by the price of bitcoin, but it's affected by the price of ETH. well, most likely, when the ETH price drops, many coins will have a low price, and I think we all know about this.

Title: Re: Altcoin price based on bitcoin price?

There is no direct link between the two, in fact alt coin was made "alt" meaning other than something, making altcoin an alternative coin from Bitcoin. However like there is no direct way to buy some alternative coins yet, Bitcoin and also ETH becomes the tunnel or bridge to buy these coins, frankly. For investors to buy these coins, they buy BTC/ETH first before buying these coins they wanted to buy.

Although I would agree that there is somehow no direct correlation between them. I would say that since cryptocurrencies are not your traditional currencies and are affected by different factors. We can't discount the fact that Bitcoin really has a big effect on how many altcoins in the market trends and changes in value. It is perhaps because of the fact that since Bitcoin is the biggest valued coin in the market, it has become a prime controller of how the market moves that indirectly affects how many altcoins play out.

all this time the fact is that bitcoin is still a reference for the movement of altcoin prices, because bitcoin can be said to be a coin that is considered the parent of all altcoins. but not all altcoins experience this, there are some altcoins that are pumped when the price of bitcoin is decreasing quite dramatically, often also happens when bitcoin has increased significantly but all altcoins actually go down, it seems to me because many investors from Altcoin who turned to bitcoin.

indeed this altcoin price seems to follow the price of bitcoin, if bitcoin falls then the altcoin price also falls, but not all altcoins also decline, because in my opinion there is no relationship between the price of bitcoin and also altcoin
One thing which is true for all crypto coins that Bitcoin is base currency and other crypto coins have the same nature as of Bitcoin that is digital existence so clearly it will have some affect on other crypto coins. Like the price of other Altcoin are affected with the Bitcoin and go same with Bitcoin as it produce the same picture and perception for people to look at all these crypto coins.

of course not so each product stands alone, even though at the time of bitcoin fell the price of atlcoin also fell it only evoked panic by market participants because all have their own potential, indeed while the price of bitcoin has always been a reference for altcoins but bitcoin cannot set it up altcoin drop.
These are all cryptocurrencies and I think that is the main reason that when the price of BTC increases or decrease the price of ALT also increases or decrease. The relationship of these two is very strong. For example when the price of bitcoin decreased in the start of this year the prices of all other coins also decreased. People wonder why this happened. of course the price of bitcoin will have an influence on the price of the altcoin, but the big influence on the change in the price of the altcoin is the interest of investors towards the altcoin
It is because bitcoin is the leading currency and influence the crypto market. It means it’s the mother of Altcoin, so because when the price of bitcoin up and down, Altcoin also up and down. That’s why people mostly discuss the price of bitcoin and not any other crypto, because people now the relationship between bitcoin and Altcoin prices and they know the impact.

Altcoins depend very heavily on bitcoin for several reasons, to begin with if you want to buy an altcoin most the time you need to buy bitcoin first, so that is one reason why the price of bitcoin and altcoins are related, and even more importantly most altcoins are nothing but copies of bitcoin with a few changes which means that they are basically bitcoin except that they are a cheap copy of it which means that their price moves together with the price of bitcoin because the coins are too similar.

Altcoins prices are affected by Bitcoin price movements may be due to several reasons
- Bitcoin is the most dominant coin in crypto market (approx 50% dominance now)
- almost all altcoins are traded in Bitcoin market with enough volume as compared to other markets
- volume of bitcoin is nearly around 30% of total volume which means most of the traded funds moving according to Bitcoin that's why whole market is being affected by Bitcoin movement
But this is not always true becoz it depends on market trends,TA, FA and many other things

Also there are many ERC- 20 tokens which have market only in ethereum and these tokens are affected too by ethereum movement

I prefer you to do not rely on one thing as movement of any coin depends on large no of factors
Don't trust blindly on something, doing own research is a good habit

Yeah it is true and I think the reason is that cryptocurrency market depends mostly on the ups and down of bitcoin, that’s why Altcoin prices are also increases and decreases with the price of bitcoin. It is the leading crypto in the market and mostly people put their money in bitcoin only because it is more authentic and reliable than Altcoin.

usually the altcoin price will rise when the price of bitcoin rises and the price of the altcoin will drop when the price of bitcoin falls. to take advantage of price differences in the market to seek profit so that the price of the altcoin will rise and of course the price of bitcoin and altcoin is movement always giving the same price movement
I guess it is the common mistake or misconception about the altcoin's price. Altcoin is for alternative to bitcoin since bitcoin has the highest value among all of the cryptocurrency but it does not necessary affected by the bitcoin's price just so happen that investor and trader always panic sell whenever bitcoin's price goes down.

compared to bitcoin, I think most altcoin prices are based on ETH prices. Well, I think this is a common thing. I am so sure, the increase in ETH prices will make many altcoin prices higher, but I think eth prices are affected by the price of bitcoin,

in my opinion, bitcoin has a big influence on altcoins but not all altcoins, so if the price of bitcoin rises or falls then the price of altcoin will also rise or fall, but there is also the price of altcoin will increase when the price of bitcoin falls, so I think it depends on the development the coin itself to go up or down

Currently, no altcoin prices are not much dependent on the price of BTC, the current price of BTC growth, but some altcoin prices are down, so I depend on the altcoin price that is the product that the project. that development.

Bitcoin is base currency exchange for almost all of Altcoin in cryptocurrency market.  The higher bitcoin price has a way of bring up the rest of the coin in cryptocurrency market.  I do not see Altcoin price based on bitcoin price because each coin derive it's value base on different factors!

Some crypto experts said that altcoins price is very depending on bitcoin price based on their experienced, and we can really considered that it is true because at this bearish moment bitcoin price deeply goes down together with some of the altcoins in the marketplace. With this it is on the bitcoin price that actually crypto market moves, it's either going high or down low.

I can say nothing about this because if we see the investment trend, people choose their favorite coin and there is no relationship between bitcoin and altcoin investments, but it is also a fact that when the price of bitcoin increases Altcoin prices will also increases and when bitcoin drops, Altcoin will also drop. It is because overall both are cryptocurrencies.

Is price of the altcoin is based on price of the bitcoin?I have noticed the price of bitcoin falling down for past few days on same the price of altcoins are also falling down

That happens every time and I don’t even know why. I think that’s the work of investors, maybe they tend it withdraw their money whenever they see that Bitcoin is already falling.

It’s just like buying lots of different goods and saving them till your target time and once that time comes instead of selling a particular type, you decide to sell of the products and withdraw every money you have invested in that product. So investors make plans, and once they hit that target they withdraw.

of course altcoin prices are based on bitcoin, because we know that if bitcoin goes down, altcoins will go down and vice versa. bitcoin is the benchmark of all coins so all altcoins will be based on bitcoin.
