DigitalNote pioneered blockchain locking rewards but never fulfilled its original promise to utilize staking to secure the network, UNTIL NOW. We are excited to announce long-awaited Proof-of-Stake functionality via our innovative PoW + PoS hybrid system! The old blockchain lock-reward system has evolved into full Proof-of-Stake, while still allowing for Proof-of-Work mining. DigitalNote is resistant to the 51% attacks that plague other cryptocurrencies. We have taken a proactive approach versus 51% attacks since they are no longer just hypothetical in today's environment. The network deploys multiple layers of security to achieve this. First, the very nature of a PoW + PoS currency implies that an attacker must not only have 51% of the hash rate but they must also have 51% of the total amount of coins to be able to attempt an attack. This alone is very unlikely, but we have gone a step further by incorporating VRX v3.0. VRX v3.0 is a difficulty retargeting algorithm and system designed to keep PoW and PoS balanced, among other things. This system ensures that neither block type can overpower the other and both miners and stakers can benefit the blockchain equally, eliminating either as a potential 51% attack vector. Lastly, the new wallet verifies the entire incoming block before ever storing it to your disk, checking the stake difficulty and other parameters to make sure that a 51% attack is impossible. VRX v3.0 also deploys a velocity constraint system to ensure a narrow window around the desired block target (while still allowing for some variance) essentially eliminating timestamp attacks. Additionally, we are welcoming user-run Masternodes to the network! Masternodes incentivize network cooperation, strengthen chain security and also upgrade the network to allow instant transactions. Yes that is actually something that we had planned to have done already but we ended up having to deal with these ASICs first. So that will be coming ASAP. is possible MERGED mining with XMR after upgrade ? It is not something that we have tested yet but the previous merged mining functionality still exists within the protocol and now that we are using the same PoW algorithm as Monero (monero7/cryptonight variant 1) and block target (120s) it implies that it may just work. We will have to do a little more research on the Monero side to see what else they may have changed. It will be interesting to see what some pools come up with in respect to this. Apparently some of them were interested in XDN towards the end of 2017 (I remember a few of them from that time period in the XDN chat rooms) but instead of sticking around to make XDN Great Again they decided to clone it and start over, also including a small premine (or as they call "reserve") and changing the block reward. To each their own--we don't have anything against them, it's just that we prefer to work on the original and make it better instead of leaving the community and starting a new coin with different parameters. Our team is fairly small and we are always looking for others in the community to participate, much like Monero. Right now we have 1-2 coders (one also doubles as a media producer), a few social media/moderator types and a couple web devs who are on and off. So it's larger than the "one man show" of the past but we would definitely like to expand and gain more dedicated dev-types that don't disappear when there is work to be done. Like the other user said, be sure to have your private keys safe somewhere and then it is very easy to import them anywhere. Otherwise you will need to try to open it in a newer GUI wallet and see if it works. If it doesn't then you will need to use your older version and export the key. I think it will work though because in 2016 we had a GUI wallet and we were already known as DigitalNote (not DarkNote anymore). To be sufficiently prepared for the scheduled network upgrade, users should download and run the new daemon (v5.0.2) or GUI wallet (v1.0.15c-beta) BEFORE block 669,369. Please note that this is a refork due to this issues explained here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4451957.msg40980746#msg40980746. A blockchain resync is not needed, necessarily, but if you experience problems you may choose to do so. Only this version will work after the fork of June 25th . If you download/sync with the blockchain using the old digitalnoted (v4.0.3) or old GUI (v1.0.14-beta) after the hard fork, you will be on the old chain. Consequently, if you make a transaction while you are in this state, then that transaction will be on the old chain (don't worry, you can get your XDN back on the new chain per guides below). Exchanges and major pools have been notified and sent the releases last weekend and will begin updating as soon as possible at which point their wallets will be back online. Information: On block 669,369 (approximate date June 27, 2018), there will be a hard fork on the DigitalNote network. This is a re-scheduled and consensual network upgrade, so unlike the BCH/BTC split a new coin won't be created. Rather, there will be a split in the DigitalNote blockchain, where the consensus will start following the post-fork (or "new") chain, instead of the pre-fork (or "old") chain. We are still waiting on their latest response to understand what exactly they are trying to do. Minergate has been very cooperative and will have the new update ready to go on the 25th. It is very common practice for Cryptonotes to update their PoW to stay away from ASICs and we can keep doing this if we need to (pr if the community wants to keep doing so). Keep in mind that this update does not just change the PoW...it also modifies the difficulty adjustment algorithm to Zawy's LWMA-2 so that those with extremely high hashrates can no longer perform hash attacks or timestamp attacks. When I compare what the Minergate calculator says vs what the calculator says in one of the pools I moved to and now what actually came into my wallet, I must admit that at the moment I am happy that I made the change!

In the end, it depends on what HitBTC decides to do. I wouldn't jump to any conclusions yet, as we are beginning to apply pressure on them publicly and we would recommend that others do so as well. It makes absolutely no sense for them to not upgrade, as it is in their best interest to update their client. Their old chain 1) Has no devs 2) Has no website 3) Has no seed nodes 4) Allows ASIC hash attacks which stall the network for days at a time 5) Allows ASIC time attacks...the list goes on and on. Their wallet has been closed for months because they experienced the network attacks on the old chain which caused delays for them, yet they don't want to update to fix the issue and demand a quarter of a million dollars? That is totally unrealistic and almost criminal. We are not the only ones facing this issue, either. Support us on our social media posts and contact HitBTC to request that they perform the simple wallet update. In the meantime we are working hard on new features and getting listed on more exchanges elsewhere. If there were more supply then the supply would half again to 160,000 XDN, then 80,000XDN, etc etc just like in the beginning of the coin's history. This was the result of the specific method used by the original dev to formulate the block reward (bitshifting) which overlooked future issues. DigitalNote, on the other hand, offers a unique type of blockchain staking rewards. This differs slightly from Proof-of-Stake in the sense that these locked blockchain stakes don't secure the network (yet), but allow users to grow their coins at an reward rate of 0.4% to 1.094% depending on the amount of time they are locked up. The longer you lock up your coins in a stake, the more rewards you will gain (up to a maximum of 1.094%). When your coins are locked into a blockchain stake, they are safely deposited on the distributed network until the amount of time expires as specified by your staking. There is talk about making the stakes act as a sort of Proof-of-Stake but it is not our main priority. Proof-of-Work cryptocurrencies with smaller networks are very susceptible to 51% attacks and timestamp exploits by bad actors with GPU farms or ASICs. Using the same hashing algorithm as #Monero means that ASIC created for Monero can also be used to attack $XDN. Even the Monero network has to shed more than 80% of its hashrate every time they fork to rid themselves of the newest ASICs. This is very dangerous for the security of the network & leaves it open to attacks. If you have coins locked for a period of less than 6 months then you simply need to wait for them to be unlocked before you can swap them. The coin burn details are in the main thread and in the whitepaper, the period is 6 months for users to swap their coins (end of October as of now). The swapbot is down because the old network is fragile and needs to be patched. The swapbot itself is solid and works well. Hopefully this is the last patch we need to push for the old chain. This issue arose from users trying to mine on the old network for some reason, which caused a fork which consistently crashes the old network at a certain block height (the reward is 0 XDN, you should not be mining on the old network for any reason). We have fixed the issue and we are testing the patch, and with this patch users will not be able to mine on the old network. The team will handle the mining of the old network to facilitate a smooth swap process for everyone as users move to the new chain from here on out. It will not increase by itself unless you have more coins. Your staking weight is then compared to the network-wide rate to give you the appropriate reward. If PoS is not giving you the return that you wish to see, I would recommend that you mine via PoW. It never hurts to leave your wallet open for staking 24/7 though...that being said we will work to improve the system and we appreciate community feedback so that we may do so. Please note that you DO NOT have to be synced to send a transaction...so do not worry about syncing your wallet to be able to swap your coins (as long as you are synced high enough to have access to your coins).
