I don't know how I Explain my feelings. I Just lost all of my savings money. I was holding since January, I have been Holding to make again a good amount of Money. But at the end, my holding's output is, I lost everything because of my ETH wallet got hack! Almost 5K USD Stolen. All of my hard working money. I Don't know how can hacker hacked my wallet. Because I Kept very secure my private key, My friends are telling that hacker hacked my wallet by my email address. But how can someone hack only by an email address?

I Got a security alert from Google that someone has your password after then I changed my password immediately. Then after some time, I was checking my wallet to check new Coin. And then I Shocked! I Just want to give up, can't think what should I do  :'(

It feels so bad. But can you tell us in detail what you think you did. I mean in detail so that the rest of the community can learn and i really hope that you get some good rewards. I got scammed around 2 years back and lost around 25k USD .  but i am hopeful that i'll recover in the crypto world.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I can't even tell you how much it hurts. The only step I took to secure my funds was to buy a hardware wallet and use several wallets, as it is very dangerous to keep everything on one. And still there is a wallet on which I have most of my money and I am very afraid. MEW needs to make more safe wallet!!!

That is a horrible situation to be in, if you could help us out and give a bit more detail on what happened.  Was it a phishing email you clicked on to change your password and they gained access to your account that way?  were your keys stored in your google account.

It's the reason why number of person whom buy hardware wallet like Trezor or ledger nano is increasing really quickly :). You should buy it to keep your crypto safe :). Beside don't use VPN cause it's the most popular way for hacker to hack your wallet :). You also should avoid using decentralized exchange which require you to enter your wallet Private key like ETD, Forkdelta or IDEX, if you wanna use, you should create a new wallet and send token to.

A few months ago MEW was crowded in talk too because many assets are stolen, and the way hackers steal them is by phishing web, I guess this also happens to MEW thag you have. For the future if you save money on MEW, bookmark MEW is a safe way.

Most of the people who uses MEW was accidently put their private key to some phishing links, these are the common reasons on why their MEW got hacked. But, somehow, if there also another account like your google account which doesn't have any relation between each, it probably your PC got hijacked by someone else a k a RAT.

Im sorry for your loss. I'm still think if how you got hacked by an email there is a slight chance that you got hack by it. Just because someone know your email it doesn't mean that you will get hacked unless you have your private key stored in your email.

Why is it that I have read again someone complaining that they are using email to login with MEW?

I suspect that you logged in to a phishing link and you never the latest news that a browser extension was hacked thats connected to MEW.

Very sad indeed if we get hacked wallet. but most of the hackers before doing it usually ask for a wallet key with a very interesting promotion and we accidentally fill out a form that one of the contents mapped the wallet key.

I use my ledger nano s hardwallet, it's safer, I mean you could increase the safety all most on every level, but if they got your keys trough your mail/email, that is just shitty security from your side.

You should know that if you didn't disable, google saves all your history and what have you been doing and saves on your email adress that has been logged in at the time you were using wallet/web. Now I don't know what that means with all the keyboard inputs.

also, if you unknowigly saved some private keys on google drive is a possibility too, other than that beware of rigged chrome or firefox extentions

I am sorry about what happened to you and I understand how you must be feeling right now. I do not think myetherwallet hack doesn't have to do with compromised google account unless you saved your private key (or json file) on your google drive. However as others suggested invest in hardware wallet or spread your tokens along multiple etherwallet accounts.

This is a very sad news and I am sorry for your loss. If you may can you specify in details what happen to the situation where you get a phishing attack on your email address? Sorry for the loss, hackers are on prowl these days, they targeted mostly MEW wallets using phishing sites as well as sending unsolicited emails while demanding for some information from people thus gaining access to your wallet, I had been sent many emails by hackers urging me to give some information about my wallet in return for some tokens of course such  messages are deleted immediately.

Do you only have a Private key and you're not using any other extension like Metamask or something else of a third party program? The problem users of myetherwallet is that they are accessing their account only by logging in their private key, having a third party or extension would've prevented what happened to you.

the probability of having a malware, spyware or other virus with your browser might have been the cause of them having an access to your account. If you like clicking ads or searching for free coins or accessing sites that is not fully secured makes the risk higher.

I believe in security of MyEtherWallet, so probably bro it is initially your fault, more than a MEW company. Maybe hackers has hacked your PC or the store of your passwords.

It's really hard to directly hack your MEW wallet if the criminal doesn't know your password/private key. Usually, when this does happen, a user who got hacked has without knowing it inserted his/her classified info into a phishing site or he/she is a victim of keylogger.

do you have been checking the SSL is safe? I think you are exposed to phishing victims. next time be careful of the link you click. my advice if you just want to check the balance check through etherscan

I had a similar situation for a long time, but then I gave my private key to the attackers. After that, I am very closely watching their actions, and recently bought a Ledger and quickly convinced of its reliability. Until you confirm the operation on the Ledger your funds will not go anywhere.  A few days ago, MyEtherWallet was again attacked by intruders, perhaps you were one of the victims of this attack.

Very sad bro, you use hola VPN ? Or you login to phising site ? I always use metamask for my wallet. I suggest buy one hardware wallet for protect your money. Use antivirus to scan keylogger and virus, trojans. Goodluck !

Actually, I really can't imagine why my wallet got hacked. Because As I Remembered, I did not click any suspicious link, haven't clicked any fake Airdrop link. My Private key was safe enough. I really can't think how can they access my wallet. I did not click any suspicious email. I was very aware of it. Maybe they hacked my Gmail. But even I don't know how can they hacked my email where I have added my phone number there. I stored little wallet keys in my drive but the store MEW Address where I saved my most of the coin, that private key was very safe. But hacker hacked my all accounts. I really can't think what happened with me.

Did hear about some DNS hijacking taking place few months back then. But they fixed it so it is actually something else let lead hackers to steal your money. Are you sure your computer is free from any kind of viruses or malwares? You sure you were never phished? I would recommend you to do a full computer scan and make sure you are free from all kind of viruses.

Sadly, hackers can still attack people on their MEW wallets. I also think the wallet MEW is completely secure and just do not disclose information about Private Key or Keystore file. But maybe I was wrong

can I ask what do you mean by phishing attack? I hear that term everywhere, but am not really sure what to look out for... because from the above 3 possibilities only this one might apply to me. I dont store my private key in computer and dont share it with anyone too. also by signing transaction online you mean disconnet computer from internet, type in private key and then connect to internet and hit enter kind of thing? thanks

What you are going through now, is unexplainable. You have lost what you have taken some many months to build up. SORRY. But it will be a very mistake for you to quite. Please don't quit. Motivate yourself and create a new wallet now, get to work and thing will be alright.

Thanks a lot for the advice 8). I was wondering what was the safer way to use these exchanges and you just gave the solution. So I'll create a "transition wallet" and I'll use it between my wallet and the exchange.

Have you used free VPN or forkdelta or idex web site? I've lost like 500$ last month and it seems to me that I entered private key on fake decentralised exchange like forkdelta. Web address was quite similar and that's it. Explore your computer and tell us what was the way to hack you

Just the same as what has happened to me at myetherwallet. My assets were just around $1000 lower, is stolen by someone. I checked this wallet and got surprised. It was really a hacker not just an ordinary person. His/her wallet was full of receiving erc20 based tokens and ethereum. That wallet was a nightmare not just for me but for everyone that were also hacked.

Do you ever use decentralized exchange site? or putting your private key on some phising site, submit in some bounty campaign or do you log in when mew are in hacking mode? This is the possible reason why the hacker hacked your mew, sorry for your loss and now your hardwork to earn & hold money turn into nothing because of that hacker.

What does your email have anything to do with your myetherwallet?  Unless, you kept a backup of your MEW in your email, there is no way that hacking your email would compromise your MEW.  Another thing is you could of tried to access your wallet on a fake MEW website.  Always bookmark it.

It will never related to your email bacause it's never asking your to give your email. There are some possibilities
1 through use the phishing link
2 you are clicking any suspicious link and get malware that stole your privatekey

What happens on MyEtherWallet? It seems like there is no more security in this wallet. Because of what you told to us, I am scaring also with my coins that I stored in MEW. I do not use any cold storage wallet and I think it is hackable whatever we will do. I guess we should seek for other wallet that applies ERC-20 token. I am also looking for that.

If it was just e-mail which had been hacked then it is impossible. You didnt save your private key anywhere your email right? Or try to send it to yourself so that you can open it anywhere?

If that is not the case then the possible hack may came from a rental shop. Have you tried to open your etherwallet account in other computer?

If it is still not the case then there is no way the hacker have gotten into you. You may have synced something with your gmail account. Once that is done anywhere you open google chrome with your gmail logged in will see all the browsed pages and the cache.

That is the only culprit that I know.

Its really bad news to the community that some people hacked. I think you enter some phishing website then you put your private key or you save it to your email and when they hacked your email they see your private key. In the world of crypto always be careful and keep your private key better not to save you key on social media account or even on your emails.

Sorry about that and hope you take a break ( relax ) leave market and come back again, never give up. Learn from your mistake, if someone send you link into your email, social media, telegram channel, please check again if you don't know the person just ignore it or delete ( unfriend ) for safety. One advice, never put your asset into your wallet/ exchange, better you replace your money into currency and use it only when needed.

There is a tweet from Myetherwallet that chrome has been attacked and those who are using Myetherwallet from that period of time need to transfer their funds to a brand new wallet. I think that is the reason for this hacked.

Sorry to hear about the theft you incurred.  Make sure you stay in the crypto game and make it back x 10.  Your luck will swing.  Maybe you should consider a hardware wallet for this go round. I do not use one myself but stories like yours are pushing me in that direction.

How do you log in to MEW? I suspect that this step caused your private key to leak. The safest way is to log in with the browser plugin.

Hacking with myetherwallet is quite a common thing in large scale. When it comes to the individual use of myetherwallet, the hacking possibilities and the hacks taken place till date is low. Better is to have good learning how to use it,that'll help stay away from hackers.

I feel sad for you but please dont give up, there are a lot of user here have experience worst than what you have now. I also a victim of hacker when i just new and earn 100$ worth of eth and about 200$ worth of token. Im shocked when i see a lot of notification transferring my coins

If it was secured the way you told it was, then why is it still hacked? I have been in MEW for so many years now. But I haven't been hacked once. Maybe there's a problem where you secure it. Don't worry. Just don't give up. If you lost that much then you will be gaining more in the future.

What I know to prevent getting hack is to make our passwords secured. The first thing a hacker would do is to find our personal details which includes our email address. Then the hackers would find a way to unlock our passwords.

This probably happened because you registered an account at a unsecure website with the same password as your email account. What these scammers do is test the password you register on their website against the email account you registered.

This happened to me before and this is why i always have different passwords for secure-looking and unsecure-looking websites. Also 2FA is always a good idea.

What wallet are you using? a wallet that uses privatkey should not have the feature to change the pass, even if you use a wallet like an exchanger instead of after a password change we are not allowed to withdraw our funds for 24 hours. From what I know about your brief explanation it is possible that the email you received is fake that will direct you to the fake wallet website do you use.

That's clear Phising. And the possible victim you have is an email saying that your password has been changed. Because the MEW password is not changed. You may have placed your privatekey on the Phishing Site and that's why it was stolen as your private key.

So we should be careful because many hackers are now active.
My only advice is to use the Json file or metamask.

Its also possible that you have entered a phishing site, I was a victim of this too and now Im racing with this hacker in transferring my newly distributed bounty tokens into my new ether wallet. Just be very careful next time mate and dont lose hope, you'll gain it again.

you may get a phishing email, where the hacker sends fake warning emails from Google or exchanges containing links to change passwords or private key on fake websites made similarly to google or exchanges. so any activity that occurs on the fake website has been recorded by hackers.

If you store the private key of MEW account in your emails then hackers can get access to it whenever they successfully hack an account. That is why it is better to print out MEW on paper.
Also, avoid using public computers for personal use.

I know the feeling,im a victim too.My etherwallet were  hacked too last month.All my hard earned token gone.I feel very bad that I cant hide how sad am I to what happened.all my crypto friends help me transfer my token tto other wallet,but they say its already a bot eevrtime we sent eth to my wallet as gas the eth we sent will automatically  tranferred to another eth wallet.now im extra careful I dont easily click.link,I read and ask opinion for every email I received if its legit or a pishing link.

I'm so sorry to hear that bro. but my pardon , can you tell us which wallet are you using for ? because on your explanation above you are not give an overview are you using MEW or Exchange wallet ?.  for safety and security reason. please don't save your coin on exchange wallet because that's unsecure, then if you are using MEW, keep your private key In the safest place. and more safety if u store it on TREZOR or NANO LEDGER.

I am very sorry for your lost. Use a very secure password next time. my account also was hack because I use lame password. Reformat your pc if possible maybe malware are installed in your pc. don't use any other pc than yours.

It is heartbreaking to loss such a huge amount from myetherwallet hack, as a crypto investor what i use to keep my fund save is using hardware wallet, haredware wallets are secure and safe it is not a wallet that private key can be exposed.

That really sounds terrible and i understand how you feel right now. What device are you using? Do you remember copy pasting your private keys to your device? There might be a chance that a hacker already put a malware on your device which able to read your clipboard details.

No one can hack your Ethereum  wallet unless your private key was compromised. I am sure you stored them in your email. You should have kept it offline .sorry for your loss

I think there are two options if you are not negligent with your private key.
the first option of peretar access network network with dns google.
and the second option, phishing. you have been trapped in phishing mode until the hacker can access your wallet.

The hardware wallets are the best. A major problem with myetherwallet most times is with the use of private keys to sign transactions, one may end up on a phishing site and give it away to hackers. That's one of the reasons I prefer Metamask

as usual the risk from having crypto asset is got hacked and very unfortunately for those who got hacked i think they will never get their funds back because hackers almost be untraceable and many factors why people got hacked but most of them is their password or their private keys were stolen by phising attempts

I share in your plight. But for me, I avoid MEW. I use Imtoken and Metamask. I use Imtoken for private storage and Metamask for trading. Maybe you should never store your private keys and recovering phrase online, it is dangerous.

I suggest you use only clean computer (should have 1 antivirus program), clean browsers (install as less extensions/plugins as possible)
- Don't install unusable or unknown extensions/plugins
- Don't visit unknown or untrusted websites/URL

 Sometimes whatever we imply for the security of wallet, hackers always find a way if there is a chance, we must think that storing in an online wallet with a respective key is not totally secured, rather than acquiring a hardware wallet, thus amount that had been hacked is too much to buy a hardware wallet but its too late, anyway the damage had been done, it is a sort of awareness that if we will not vigilant then it will happen also to us.

That's so sad! Poor you! I hear my stories about hackers. My ether wallet is the common wallet. It can be hacked easily. Now i use metamask when i need my wallet. Sometimes i use the block-chain wallet. It support ECR-20 tokens and look harder to be hacked.

It's a terrible situation happens into your coins maybe you have mistaken already and making account in phishing site that is why it easily got hacked your wallet address. Sorry for the incident. It could happen to anyone however, I have never been a fan of MEW. Once I discovered it flaws, I moved my assets out and have never looked back. Wallets such as enjin, trust wallet, eidoo and Imtoken are better wallets in my humble opinion. You should consider some of those.

If your email was hacked, probably you saved your priv key in your email in plain text?
Always use an encrypted file and preferably not online, stored in a USB stick, that you just plug in when you need to retrieve your priv keys.

Better yet, get an authentic Ledger Nano. I got one when my crypto assets is more than 10x the price of the ledger Nano.
Sort of a rule of thumb to safeguard your assets.

First of all, Sorry for your loss mate. As far as I know, it's possible your MEW account got hacked via email If you visited the phishing site from that email. So, the rule is you have to make sure to always bookmark the real MEW site, and do not open any URL from any site, email or group chat.

You can buy a cheap laptop and use it always offline to generate transactions with MEW.
