I am hoping for the best of the cryptocurrency market towards the end of the year and hopefully in the whole of 2019. I am expecting a great recovery if not a bull run and everything should be based on real market forces and not so much on speculations. However, we know that this is the market where anything can happen and things can be beyond our own control and influence. I am now thinking that if cryptocurrency will still be bad in 2019 I would reduce my involvement to as much as 75% and use my energy and time to something else...this is my way of diversifying and putting my security on my finances. This is just like saying hoping for the best but preparing for the worst..

What do you think?

It's impossible, there are many different kinds of coin and you can't easily predict what are the movements of Bitcoin so there are possibilities that BTC will rise up.

There are factors that investors and the community is also involve with the cryptocurrency and we know that we are very active on it so there is a low percentage rate that it will become worse in 2019. I doubt it.... let's be optimistic...  ;D

The crypto mania is just starting so why you will expect that it will not so good in 2019? Compare to the early days where there are very few people involved but look on how the market survived.

It's here to stay and will definitely break the records on what's the fastest growing investment *bubble for others* this millennium.

There's the risk, if you will take off 75% of your involvement or holdings, its your decision but I'm sure that there's something that waits for those who are waiting for its continuous growth.

In my opinion, by 2018 the market value will increase again and in early 2019 is still increasing, but by the end of 2019 the market will repeat the same in 2017 and 2018

What are real market forces in your opinion? The vast majority of the crypto market (yeah even of the stock market) is speculation. Of course sending coins costs you gas/transaction fees, but in order for those fees to be a dominant market force we need a real mass adoption of a coin, which currently is not possible due to blockchain speed limitations. And before, during or after the mass adoption there will always be speculation.

Back to the original topic: Crypto remains highly volatile. Nobody knows if the mass adoption or any other use cases that potentially could generate value will happen or not. The "big mass adoption speculation bubble" and its bull market might still be in the future, but that is not guaranteed.
So prepare for the worst but hope for the best! Even if we have already seen the "big bubble" last year and it is only downhill for the current currencies in existence: it won't be a straight way down, there will always be bear and bull markets!

By looking at the historical data we would understand that years is not what determines the performance of the cryptocurrencies market but fundamentals and technical issues.  I have been following the market and 2018 can still be the best year in term of profits and pricing.

Most likely 2019, will not be the year of pump. But 2020 will be very interesting because of the reduction of the award to the miners. Rest from the market, my friends.

Build forecasts is not a thankful business. It seems to me that in 2019 the crypto currency market will be on the rise, so now I prefer to buy in front of this event and if something goes wrong then I will act on the situation...

I think all we are beleive in new huge bull run in 2019 because who don't beleive they already got out from crypto market in this dip and will never come back.

A lot of what causes the price to go down quite a bit is all of the big hacks as well. If you go back and look, everytime there's a big hack where people have lost a lot of money and it was all over the news, the price went down and never really recovered for a few months afterward.

I think the market situation this year is not optimistic. Many people are guessing the arrival time of the bull market, but the bull market needs a lot of money. I have not found the source of these funds!

The year has not ended yet and you assume that 2019 will not be good. This year year is not over yet and I still have high hopes regarding in the situation of the market this year. Just wait and be optimistic.

If the only thing that's keeping you in this market is the hope of a recovery, or like you said, a bull run, then I'd recommend you to leave this market right now and forget about it. You're simply being too greedy by expecting such things, why can't you expect a bigger adoption from merchants around the world? why can't you expect a better understanding from politicians and govt around the world towards Bitcoin? Those are things you should expect next year, things that actually help the cryptosphere.

Lower your expectations and stop thinking about recoveries and bull runs all the time.

In as much as the market seems unpredictable and volatile,I believe 2019 will be a better year for cryptocurency but if it is still not good in 2019,then I think investors will find other means and there will be less trust in the crypto market but I am sure 2019 will be a better year for crypto user.

for now I will still work hard to find a space that can give me income in the crypto world, but if it gets worse next year maybe I will really make the world of crypto a side.

It's not healthy to think that way, but I don't blame you for that. This year is not over and I still have faith with it. I'm hoping that by the end of the year the market would bounce back and enter the year 2019 strong.

I also think like you, if by mid-2019 the market is going down and can not go up after 2018 heavy discounts. I will retreat 50% of my capital out of this market to invest in something to salvage my life. I hope that will not happen, Hope prices will go up before I make a decision.

I think Crypto will continue to grow every year, it's just that the price is very volatile and very sensitive to whatever happens, because a small FUD can affect market movements. But we must be optimistic, because there is a great technology that is owned by crypto and hopes to become a future technology that can be used in all fields of community life, blockchain.

Incase cryptocurrency is still bad in the year 2019 I will suggest to buy more coins because that means you have more opportunity to buy cheaper price of the altcoins and it means if the coin is very low you can gain more profit.

Seek for the hidden gems with a lot of study, analysis and thorough assessment of projects. You just need to do your research carefully and don't trust ICO listing sites etc. because ratings can be bought. Careful research is very important to avoid scams and other low quality projects - don't trust anyone but your own research!

If it still bad until next year then maybe its time for me to retreat and forget crypto for a year maybe. In these landscape were only after the goodnews and hopes that one day we will hit the pot, but its not that easy unless your a professional you can easily make profit daily. Well its not over yet, maybe there will a surprise and reward for holders before this year end.

I have lost so much since the beginning of 2018 to the present. If the market continues to decline in 2019. I will continue to hold and try to buy more, because I no longer care about the price, I have lost nearly 70%. And I will only sell when I reach the profit I set in April

If that's happened again a lot of people will quit crypto especially those invested this year. Maybe i will try learn another backup instead of waiting for another bear year but no one can predict the market even the best has a downfall in crypto. Preparing for the worst isn't bad and I do understand your current views on what would possibly happen on next years. If this trend would still continue until on next years then this will really change a lot for those crypto believers and if it would then it might go even lower that we expect. Just don't forget to risk on the amounts that you can afford to lose and since its our money we can pull out anytime depending on our intuition and decisions as long you would able to reduce the risk of loss then it should be fine.

I think that as we are closer to year that miners will mine finally the whole amount of bitcoin the closer we are to the pump that will change completly the market situation, i believe that first signs will be able to be seen in 2019.

If that happens the current state will be stabilize and what the market has will now be normal, it won't be a thing and there is nothing different if the market seems to be not good but I doubt it will happen, anyways it will worsen the impact to the people and that will be the biggest problem since there would be some stopping to trade and some that hesitates to try because of the situation with the market not being organized.

If you are not strong with conditions like this, then just leave it from now and you are a lover of surges, not patients who are declining will make the market not good who just want to control every increase, and here I just speculate and see you like that, of course most people think like that, the journey is still long I think next year will be good and increasing from before where people are focused and passionate for next year, but anything can happen in this crypto market, to stay patient in dealing with situations outside the market not a good step because luck rarely happens.

Well most of the people who have replied so far are experts so you know more than what I do .
But this is my opinion--> lot of IT companies have already understood the true potential of block-chain and they have started training their employees in this new technology .So next few years there will huge interest in blockchain and crypto in general , Everyone would like to make some easy money that we can give our family/kids better life so I would expect more investments next year hopefully  :)

If that happens,  I think there will a lot that will go out of crypto or might sell all their holdings. Although, there are a lot of signs crypto has a bright future and more and more is able to realize it. Hopefully, everything will be ok and have faith in it.

I personally like to take it once step at a time. The crypto market wasn't fantastic in 2016 and then it's imploded in 2017, alts seeing their ATHs. So I'd rather you focus on surviving 2018 and the current bearish market condition.

If the cryptocurrency not also good in the year 2019 do not afraid because if you go back the history of cryptocurrency as decentralized cheap price value in the market than now before the price of bitcoin is very cheapp now even in the dump value with the lead of bitcoin as king of cryptocurrency the value is good than before since cryptocurrency start as curreny.

I don't think so. The market is very bad so far in 2018, but that doesn't mean the 2019 is bad. Moreover, I think there will be a bull market at the end of this year until next year.

It would be a good opportunity for reinvesters or newbies to enter the crypto market. But it will be a great disappointment and a lot of losses from the holders and investors who were in the market before. I do not think the bad market will last long, Around September or October the market will start going up again

In my opinion, the market is alive and new members come to the cryptocurrency every day. There were always unpleasant situations, but the market was always restored and everyone was happy. I have no doubt that the beginning of 2019 will be good for all investors and not only.

I can clearly tell one thing is that the price of bitcoin might not rise this year but i am sure the price will start rising at the end of next year without a doubt as there is halving coming up and i am sure it will take the market up yet again, we might not see a mad rally but i am pretty sure we will touch the all time high valuation, the worst is the regulations coming up and the exchanges will have a hard time coping with it, when we get the clarity regarding the regulations the market will go higher.

If you are a long-term investor, then you should wait for many years, not just for 2020. For instance, when you hold bitcoin, and you believe it to be a success, then you should hold it for many years. Added to that statement, I believe that the market will recover soon starting from October. So for now, try to teach yourself to be patient and positive. Nothing comes easily. All you need to do is put your faith in the coin you believe in most.

Then we should accept it. Maybe traders would need to make certain adjustment and investors will be much intelligent and see where there money goes.

As a bounty hunter I'm very upset as I was not able to join the field last year. I missed it. But I had hopes that I could make some money this year. I didn't expect this much down market. So I hope and think at least in year 2019 we will able to see a good market condition. If not, I will have to find another job to make money.

I'd look into the last months of this year before looking at the possibility if 2019 is going to be a good year or not. But if it won't do good like the way it is for this year, I'll remain myself as an optimistic person through the market.

I don't have too much hope with ETF but if institution money comes in. I'm sure that there will be a vast growth of the market and we can finally even reach back all time high's..

I'm also thinking about selling my tokens and convert to usd to protect me from further losses. Like what you said I'm preparing for the worst and I don't want to gamble my money with the current market condition. I'm hoping this December will be seeing the market to have another bull run. The fluctuations in the prices of cryptocurrencies is their nature, they go up and down so people can exchange and invest. That is the unique thing about cryptocurrencies, compared to the other currencies, the often and big range of price fluctuations so Yes they might “crash” every once in a while. It won't go to 0 though.

I agree with you every years are different situation in the becoming years to come.Let us move on and think positive in the future.I strongly believe that the investor will not live in this crypto world instead they get challenge in the long way run.

We all have a choice and option to quit or to continue. Some people would get tired of the down trend eventually but those who will choose to be firmed at times like this would surely be rewarded for their patience. Market volatility in the first place is a natural phenomena in cryptoindustry. We should take this situation as something that is normal despite of the fact that indeed it worries most of the people. People maybe disappointed of their crypto currency investment next year if the market don't turn out to good but that doesn't mean  many key player will quit  cryptocurrency because the crypto currency market have go through something worsten and it prevail in the end. Anyway, maybe the OP forgot about the risks of getting involve in crypto currency. Everyone is expecting for the market recovery, we just didnt know when and how. Infact, what we're seeing right now is a healthy market. We can see the prices fall, but still managed to bounce back a little, somehow. If you think the bear have stayed in the market for a long time, think again. It took 8 years for Bitcoin to reach the price this far.
Still, we have our own outlook and decisions and I respect the OP's decision as he's just securing himself financially.

According to the current trend, i am afraid that 2019 will be a big bear year. So i decide using most of my energy and time to other things, see you guys on the next bull market.

There are opportunities to make profits in any market, bearish or bullish.

2018 is not over yet and ın my opinion you must not lose your hope, you remember btc was very bad at september and october last year, and we saw what happens, it increased to 20k dollar, so everytime btc can return to normal.

usually bear market will last for another 6 months the total time frame for bear market is one year later on we can expect little bit profits

if crypto doesn't improve in 2019, then fully I will fold the assets that I have, but not all crypto, only btc and some other alt, hope 2020 or in the future can be a very valuable asset.

I would still be involved in cryptocurrency by then and I am more focused on studying trading because we know that there are different types of market and whatever kind of market it will be as long as you know trading and know when to buy and sell and reduce losses then you will eventually profit from it unlike when you are an investor wherein you just profit when the price goes up. I have high hopes though for the coming months that we will have a recovery but still I am diversifying my investments by investing in non-crypto related stuffs so that whatever happens, I still have income from other sources.

We are waiting for the bull run but no one knows when this situation will take place, however if you are aware from the very start how crypto works and what is the flow of the market you'll understand and you wont question why the market is declining.

You know what we cant predict it if it will rise or not...  The market is not stable it moves on it own way...  We cant study how it works because its movement is irregular you know what the only thin we need to do is to wait wait and wait...  We cant do anything about it we cant manipulate it thats why it i better to have our great strategy in the market...

It will be a challenge for holders of course if this bear market extends up to next year. It's not going to be very attractive for would be investors as well. On a personal thought though, i'd still stick to holding. Bitcoin has too much potential to give up on.

we are traders and we have one positive fact that we wait for price to jump in sky and hold coins in hard stages.Sometimes we need to loss something to gain big rewards similarly in case of alt-coin investment we keep investing our funds in red market like a saving investment from part of earning. LTC and BTC were stagnant 2014 - 2017 down 80% from all time highs for 3 years!  A multiple year down market is not unusual.  This is a great buying time to reap the rewards of low prices.

I’m still kicking myself for not accumulating during that time period when LTC was like 10 a coin and BTC 100 or so.

We could very well be in the same slump .... higher prices than back then but the same ability to explode X100 like it did back then.

It's been a year for me since I started engaging in cryptocurrency. During the course of time, I learned that the crypto market always has a bullish/bearish runs. The 2017 hype was a roller coaster ride for all to experience how very volatile the cryptocurrency market is. We need to adopt no matter how the market trend is and make it advantageous to our own interest. The cryptocurrency, especially Bitcoin is still undergoing lots of critics and adaptations. The crypto market in 2019 will surely be a good time for crypto since that might be the time for real recovery from 2017's downfall.

I really think that 2019 will be kind of stagnant year for cryptocurrencies to be honest. I haven't seen any really cool news that would start a next bull run. 2020 I think is the year that cryptos will again pick up their game and reach new heights.

According to technical analysis I expect that in the second half of the next year the market will start to recover. But till that time the market will be only in flat or fall.

everything you want to predict are just things that happened in the past, duration and strength of a bear market, nothing that you can really use to make a forecast..

There is a big possibility that the market is going to remain as it is for the next year as well, so if you want to get out you are completely free to do it since no one is going to force you stay here, but I think you are going to regret it, because after that the chances the year of 2020 is really good will be high and when that happens you are going to wonder why you did not had the strength to hold your coins.

I think that the cryptocurrency market will continue to grow stronger as it is still small compared to other financial markets in the world. If that's the case, do you think selling and letting go of your token holdings would be a better udea? because I think it is not. If next year would be the same as this year, holding is still the best thing to do and that is a rule not only in Bitcoin but to most investment. In as much as we have seen most cryptos drop in value, I believe some rely on their working product, so it's best to invest in products with real problem solving characteristics and not mere speculation.

If the cryptocurrency market is not good in 2019 maybe it's time for me to step back and forget about cryptocurrancy for a while but if Bitcoin, institutions and funds start to move in this market, then it must be very good overall for years to come.

Normally it is not even advisable to put all your eggs in one basket in the first place. If the market remains bearish in 2019, then we would just simply wait for the next but at least, I believe that everyone should have something else that brings in regular income for them rather than relying completely on crypto space which to me should be like a long term thingy.

At the end of the year 2019, I thought it would be different from the end of this year. Many people are hoping that at the end of this year the coins will increase its price. And for the moment we will have more to invest in Altcoin.

There are many factors that cause such a bad market. let's be optimistic that crypto euphoria has just begun so why would we hope that it wouldn't be so good in 2019? Compare that with the beginning of the time when very few people were involved, but look at how the market survives.

I heard some rumors about Bitcoin hitting 3000$ in 2019 so if that happens altcoins will for sure follow. Don't think it's even possible though given the fact how much does it cost to mine a bitcoin.

while there is a possibility that the market will recover by the end of this year ,we can also consider the idea that it might still not recover until 2019 arrives. There is so much speculations and volatility in this system. For those who have saved enough to survive this red market can just simply take advantage of it but to those who has not saved enough like me, we cannot avoid worrying about the future so for now im deleting my folio and finding other means of resources to survive ,thats all i can do. The best thing we can do in this situation is to leave this situation and just go with the flow. I think the bear market will be mostly over by summer 2019. The next mania phase will probably not begin until summer 2020 but we may see new ATH's in bitcoin in 2019. The last quarter of 2019 will probably be the turning point. The next mania will be as much greater than 2017 than 2017 was above the mania of 2013.

And then we will see how the market will survive, losing 90% of its investors. Because the capitalization at the same time will be at the level of 100 billion and any investment will become simply meaningless.

It is always sensible to diversify. Crypto does seem to be struggling to regain any upwards price momentum at the moment, and I think everyone is still cautious given the huge drop we had at the start of the year. Having said that, ATHs are so far away from current prices that there is significant room for growth. I do expect crypto price to increase in the long term, but short and medium term who can say?

Just because of that you'll give up cryptocurrencies? I can feel your disappointment if ever it does but what do you think to those people who experienced one of the biggest correction that came to bitcoin way back 2013 or so? if ever they gave up by that time and came out to the market that early, where do you think they are? and what do you think what would they feel?

I'm sure there are a lot of people who agree with you..Everyone expects the market to rise immediately..There has been no improvement in the market since the beginning of the year..However, when compared with the past years, we know that the market increases at the end of each year..I think the same scenario will be repeated.

It's not possible there are many coins the market and crypto currencies are getting attention on lots of people around the world market will very soon start going up and the marketcap will be twice as it was before.

This year has been particularly bad for the crypto world with Bitcoin hardly trading above the 6000 resisting threshold and this is the longest bearish condition in the history of the market. This is the reason there are high hopes of a high upsurge of the market by next year. Next year promises to be a year of a bountiful harvest for the crypto world.

If me, i still hold fiat for now, only a little amount of bitcoin. If market is not really good in next year i think i will start to open business in real life, because not want to take any risk in bad market again.

I agree with your point of view. I also hope that the crypto market will recover by the end of the year and we will start a gradual upward movement. But I'm also mentally preparing for the worst. I understand that if also 2019 is bearish, then expect that some of the crypto currency will disappear. And no one knows exactly what currencies will disappear. It worries me, but I try to stay calm ;)

I think the inclusion of the ETF news makes crypto adoption to be tarrying. Once it becomes clear that bitcoin could be traded as a stock, then we will likely see a mass adoption.

So lets hope the ETF news is positive and really lift a lot of doubtful minds. If this happens earlier enough, am sure you will be convinced and rather keep your holdings.

No one can predict the future exactly but I believe that the crypto market is still very young, and has not shown anything yet; who talks about the bitcoin bubble and the crypto does not know what he's talking about.

Perhaps 10% of people have heard of Bitcoin and crypto in the last 2 years; perhaps 5% of people have invested something in bitcoin and crypto over the past 2 years; maybe 1-2% of people have invested more than $ 1000 in bitcoins and crypts over the last 2 years. We are only at the beginning!

All this does not exclude, however, in a safe recovery and a strong rise in 2019; I and my finances hope so but we do not have the mathematical certainty.

Most people are to impatient. It took three years from the ath in 2014 to the next ath in 2017. If you believe bitcoin and crypto will change the world, relax and enjoy the ride. To worry about the price from day to day is not constructive. 5 to 10 years from now is what matters, not the daily candles on the way there.

Regardless if the market is not good or bad, there will still be a select few that will moon while the rest do not, eg. vertcoin and grs at around october 2017 while the rest bleeds.. So do your research properly and be selective of what you are buying.

A few weeks ago, I just read an article about Fibonnaci pattern. it is a pattern that turns out to be a pattern that occurs in all things. in the universe, both objects and events. then I did a little research. I started researching my personal life before this and then recorded it, and it was true that I experienced a pattern that was almost the same in a period of time like the fibbonaci count. then I observed the Bitcoin pattern, and it was true that something similar had happened several years ago. and this is the second time it happened. if I don't miscalculate at the end of Q1 2019 or the beginning of Q2 there will be a bull run.

Nah, just to be safe, choose bitcoin more than any altcoin. The fact remains that bitcoin is the strongest and will withstand alone. Altcoins eventually become shit because of their project that isn't fulfill, just look the altcoi s now, still kissing the floor and struggle to surge.

I certainly do not think that it will be the same in the next year. But it is not difficult to assume that many will simply abandon cryptography as unnecessary and will find more profitable and reliable investments.

If this is to be true, it will actually screw up my plan. But I don't think this won't maintain in a long time. To think that this may be forever, I can even imagine it. In the end, I think it's good to think my other plans. Market will always change, and I truly believe about it.

Even if the market of cryptocurrencies was 100 years old it will not be predictable at all, just look at the stock market, how many people have tried to predict how the market is going to behave and yet all of them have been unable to predict how it's going to move? It is way better to just hold your coins, I know that the profits are not going to be as good as if you were a trader but the risks are minimal if you choose the right coin.
