yes this is technological advancement, this is very helpful for remote areas that are difficult to access the internet network, blocktream has now spread in the Asia Pacific, which means it is almost comprehensive throughout the world

It could be really useful for Bitcoin users because we may have a lot of difficulties if we would not have an internet connection and we are using digital currencies with it.

Well i can't see anything bad in this , actually it's a great benefit for people who want to enter in the BTC world but have trouble with the internet, In this way more and more people will join this market and BTC will make greater progresses in the future.

Internet is becoming very popular, and a huge percentage of the population now has access to smart phones.
Bitcoin without internet, may not do much in terms of bitcoin adoption, but it's a development. Amd would make Bitcoin more flexible and easily accessible.

There's plenty of areas without internet on Planet Earth.

In my opinion it is not possible if bitcoin is used without an internet connection because the internet greatly affects the work system of bitcoin, if there is no internet, bitcoin is not possible to run. So in my opinion the internet is very much needed in the use of bitcoin.

I do have any thought that can we use bitcoin without any use of internet connection. It might possible somewhere in the future but still we need to use internet to access cryptocurrencies especially bitcoin. Kinda like telemetry, I think, but this one processes more data and has more capacity compared to its predecessors. This is really an excellent news considering that there are still some parts of the world in which internet access is prohibited or not that reliable and stable. This could potentially change the game for the mining industry and travelers should they find themselves in a remote area that accepts bitcoins (this could happen) and without cash but only bitcoins on hand. As the article states, one only needs a USB device and a receiver to relay transactions and receive data from the satellite, and I just hope that it's not that expensive so as to really help change the shape of sending money wherever you are, literally.

I don't think it would be possible if using bitcoin without internet, what if they were very far away in a village that was not covered by satellites. Of course they will not be able to use without the internet, if that is true it will happen, of course everyone will feel happy without paying internet usage bills. I'll check it out, but first of all, isn't there already a way to at least store btc without the Internet? I'm talking about paper wallets. You need a website first, but then you can just save a website file and open it on a computer that is not connected to the Internet. You get a randomly generated address offline and then you print it out. As for Blockstream Satellite, I find it suspicious that it's not some famous thing. They have less than 1k subscribers on their Youtube channel and no big videos about it. I think the idea is kind of cool, though, and blockchain is now indeed free from the Internet.

Well, I do not think if we can used Bitcoin without internet. Cryptocurrency become known as a virtual or digital money inside in the internet. Personally, I do not see if we could use it wihout internet because currently we need to have an internet before we access all of transaction in cryptocurrency unless some network offer a free data use in crypto currency.

Bitcoin was created on a computer, and is designed to work with an interconnecting network of "recorders" ( nodes). The Internet is just one way to connect these computers. It could be done with radio or men on horses, but it would probably be too slow to be practical.

As I understand it those who want to work with this satellite system should install a satellite receiver in their homes. We do not know how safe it is and we also have no idea how much this will cost. I am not old-minded I would like to try but why should we change the internet (which we know what it is) to the Blockstream Satellite?

It is a progress. Bitcoin needs an internet connection in the past to send a transation and most of the time, it is really frustrating especially when you are in a place that do not really have a great connection. I live in a province where internet connection is not that reliable, most of the place don't have that fast internet connection. This will improve paying offline and making Bitcoin more useful in terms of you buying things offline anywhere.

That's still the case here. You can only receive data from the Blockstream satellites. This allows people to validate transactions they've received and sync the blockchain without the internet.

I don't think that using Bitcoin without the presence of internet is possible. I see it is very clear to see and woth sense that if we wanted to use Bitcoin crypto currency we also need to have an internet connection.

Someone needs to have an internet connection -- if a transaction needs to be broadcast to the blockchain. But if you had no internet connection, you could sign a transaction offline and transmit the raw transaction to someone else using paper and pencil or thumb drive. They could broadcast the transaction or keep passing it along until someone can.

There's also the idea of bearer instruments, like Opendime (https://opendime.com/). If there is a set value loaded on a device like that, it can be used like just like cash.

Unfortunately it is not. Bitcoin is depending on internet system. Without internet, we can't use and transfer it one account to other account. But if it works without internet, then we will get some benefits also.

I think you're wrong because the satellite can access almost everywhere in the world because it is floating above our world in the space and there are multiple satellites that are floating above our planet. It is not impossible and it could be possible. 8)

That can make the transaction of bitcoin faster. If that satellite can be better than using internet, there could be no problem wherever we go. There has nothing impossible because people are getting in new technology. It takes time for that, for now bitcoin need internet for to access.

I think that satellite connections also need internet and signals through which we can transfer data but if this is a real way to make it happen that bitcoin will be used with out internet now it is not looking real but any how any thing can happen in the future and technology inventions is increasing day by day so to say that it will be impossible we have seen many things which were impossible but people made it possible and it will be more practical and good if bitcoin become usable with out internet.

You can send raw transactions by mail, fax and even SMS. So you don't need internet to send BTC

Paper transactions or a chance for mutual agreement to make transactions in bitcoin might be possible because bitcoin is a digital currency and internet plays a major role to make a bitcoin transaction.

I see progress only as far as the Internet is concerned. If the country is almost completely digitized and goes out all the operations of life online it means that it is progressing. Why do we lack the Internet? It in any case will be always and everywhere and its speed and geolocation only increases day by day.

Just heard about block stream today. To be honest, this is not going to have much affect on the current market situations. Internet is much important for us and for crypto it is useful that we have this mode of payment so many useful things is possible through this currency and Internet is important for the crypto like we can not access our wealth in crypto if we have no internet and with out internet we can not pay it to some one.

Totally agree with you mate. Here in my country internet connection sucks we pay more than the services we got due to the slow connection we've got from internet service providers. Data connection is also not guaranteed to be stable as network coverage is very poor in my area and some other places. in my opinion this is a rapid progress if we can access crypto currencies without using the internet network. but that can only be enjoyed by a few people. not everyone in the world can connect with blockstream satleit. so that the internet network is still needed so that all people in the world can access crypto currencies.

Well, for my own opinion, the idea to have been use the Bitcoin crypto currency without the use of internet is a great idea for me. And regarding to the question whether it is a progress or not, my answer is yes. Why because it will widen the rane of people using bitcoin that will include in it the people than can't afford to have internet connections and to people that have low signal for internet.

Idea is good, especially now when we see there is blockchain based smartphone too. The reason it's good is that as you see, currently you need usb stick and receiver for that but possibly they will cooperate with upcoming blockchain based smartphone producer company and offer it with built in receiver. Are there more satellites broadcasting this information? It sort of seems like you'd be trusting a single node without verifying the data with other nodes. We can't imagine crypto currency without Internet and electricity. Can you run car without fuel not naa similarly if there is no Internet than how will you able to make any transaction to someone and how transaction will get confirmation from miners.

Using bitcoin offline is very handy, but we must consider the security of bitcoin first before that.

If its right then its cool idea as its much more save to use BTC offline but technically i realy dont understand how this could work,but with this would be less hacks and with this features more new users would join market and use BTC and other cryptocoins ,its big progress so even countries without internet its more than 2 bln people as i know would use it.

Wow! This is the best innovation of 2018 with regards to Bitcoin/crypto advancement. This simply means that people in the remotest areas of the world without internet and even those in those cities where their internet connection is Scrappy can now join and do crpto with ease.

I think using bitcoin without the internet is a good development and not only is it a good development, it will push the adoption rate of bitcoin because many people even those in the rural areas would be able to use it .

A good step if it happens in modern times like this but it is true there will be a bad way if it can be obtained without an internet network. But Bitcoin is a virtual currency that still uses the internet to access shipments to others in all countries.

Having a satellite as a backup , in case internet is not available is a great idea. This would mean that places where there is no internet or in case of internet disruption, the bitcoin transactions will not stop or halt as we will always have satellite as a backup medium.

Of course as we know that bitcoin is digital currency it can be use digitally only and we know that on internet system only we can use it as much as we want to use. Without internet I think Digital currency is not accessible. But in future we can hope that people will use on other systems but right now it is not possible to use without internet.

I think it is great progress. People will be able, in the near future, to use and make transactions with Bitcoin also in those countries and in those areas around the globe where there is a lack of internet connection or it is unstable.

On the downside, how'd one know the honest nodes are taken over by the attackers if there is no internet to verify the chain? I highly doubt the idea of it. The closest thing is signing a transaction offline then broadcasting it using a service which is connected to the internet. There should be a medium to establish a connection between offline transactions and pushing them into the chain.

It is definitely possible to use Bitcoin offline.  I am a Bitcoin holder for 6 years now and my coins are in an offline paper wallet.  Well in my case my private key is engraved into a steel plate and hidden inside a brick in my home. Will only take it out in the future if an emergency situation requires it.

Saying that in rural places where internet facility is a myth is a bit harsh. I live in rural, not on urban place but I still have the ability to access my Bitcoins and other crypto currencies. Internet may not be that fast but still, we can still access it and that proves it can be adopted more even if it is online though the knowledge and view of people are not that good about crypto currencies as they've heard and watched a lot of news about it being a scam and exchanges and gambling sites being hacked.
