hi guys
do u prefer short or long term investing in crypto i prefer short term only
i just buying a coin for ex at 20 and sold at 21 or buy at 60 sold 61 in the same
day i don't like long term investing because it take too long and finally that
coin can fall even peoples who bought ETH at 0.03 or more they are in big lost
now and even BNB some peoples bought at 0.003 or even 0.004 i know
that some coins can raise in the future but i don't think we have to hold
coins for yeras when u can make in this periode thousands of dollars
in short term investments i remember when i make 1700$ in hours
with NLC2 its a shit coin true with price of 20 sat now but i don't care
because i didn't hold it i just checked its chart and i found it falling
to 800 sat and raising to 900 in seconds so i bought it many times
at 800 and i sold it 900 and i make 1700$ i less then two hours  ;D
what i want to say is why u holding coins for a year when u can
make at least 25 - 50$ in a day with only 0.15 - 0.20 BTC this
means 50*365=18250$

for the long-term investment, you need to be rich first lol. if you're poor like me you need to take your steps for short-term (sad but true)

we are not in a position like holding 100 btc for 10 years. you need to gain your cryptocurrencies and need to consume these asap to live your life, at least, in these market situations we need to act like that. because most cryptocurrencies prices are the same and do not increase much more. so it makes no sense to hold them for investment. but you can hold your tokens if bull-run starts btw.

For someone who is still finding his or her way up with crypto it will be very hard and challenging to rely on long term investment because they can take you years to achieve your aims so long term investment is only good for those who have other ways of making money

Why don't to choose both the short and long term. This way can optimize the profits of crypto investment. Some coins are targeted to gain faster profits, while others are focused on higher profits in the long term.

Short term investment contains much more risks and is very likely to fail on such a market. Invest in the most proven altcoins and Bitcoin to reduce the risks of getting scammed by new coins. I prefer to invest in long term, because on a falling market it is almost impossible to reach good results.

I'm not against your strategy but not everyone can avail that minimum capital that you are giving as an example. I prefer the long term, I don't want the pressure and I'm not well with scalping which is your strategy. We have our own preferred strategy and terms in investing. If you are well with the short term, continue it but if someone prefers to just watch the market and see his investments grow in time through holding it for long term, let them be at peace. It all depends really. I want to hold both long term and also have a short term bag for trading. I am just waiting for the coin I like to trade to have more liquidity again as I used to make nice little pocket money trading it for eth, then I can add it to my cloud token wallet in various digital currencies to earn around 6-10% monthly in order to compound the wealth. That is my plan along with holding a few other coins for long term holding. Short term to make a lot of money you need a decent bag to trade. We need to find some passive avenues to compound and grow our income, as trading also can be both risky and volatile and you don't always win on every trade.  This is what we need to do, have many strategies and a plan B, otherwise, we face difficulties. I am learning the hard way but hopefully form my bad experiences, I can do something better in this last part of 2019.

Making short-term or long-term investments is equally profitable, all depending on their expertise and needs.
in the short term, they tend to do so because they have no fixed income other than in cryptocurrency and maybe a short term option to meet their needs even though the short term will only produce a small profit.

Well, that is the sad reality. Honestly its depend on your choice, you can still go for long term investment even if you have only small capital but expect the profit will not be that high. Shorterm-investment, on the other hand, has a chance that will give you an enough profit but the problem is that in given short time there's a chance that uptrend won't come and it will leave no choice for you to wait or else this will be a loss for you so technically this will become a long-term investment.

If you are trading altcoin below the top 10 CMC or coins that are being hype, it's better to just take the short term. because you are more likely to lose. Just put your balance in BTC and leave 2 or 3 years and come back when it grows. And please save the BTC in the hardware wallet to be safe & fully controlled.

yes I agree with you, it is not possible every day to make a profit. and I don't think it's time consuming, it's hard to leave the monitor like this. the short term is good, but if it's only a matter of hours, this is too fast. I'm sure not everyone has the spare time to observe the market all the time.

There are big differences between short and long term investments; if you want to invest then go for long term. If you are about to TRADE then go for short term. There is no sense of investing for short term as that is not an investments but you are just trading with ALL THE RISKS included. Investments is one the types of trading which eliminates most of the risk factors.

For example, by first quarter of 2015 BTC prices dipped below $200 and I remember the lowest was around $180 and by December of 2017 BTC traded up to $19,400. It would be around 100x growth for the people who decided for long term. I am sure most of the long term investors had not booked in late 2017 but I am sure they are going to harvest 1000x very much easily in coming months to years.

You could be a long term investor all you need to do is invest what you could afford even if it's just a small amount try to buy everytime you have some extra cash and hold it.
And for me it is better to be a long term investor rather than a risky short term.
The market moves so quickly and if you are a short term investor you would always be in fear on your investment specially if you invested in an alt-coin that doesn't have a strong community.

Very well said, I was a bit confuse too on what OP said about short term investment in a day but all he was doing is day trading but I've heard that this kind of trading has a lot of risk since you are going in and out for just a few hours or day, also you need a big capital on this if you want to earn more in just a day,

I prefer midterm to long term investment, but actually timing to sell depends on the movement of the market.  Just like for example, if aperson bought a token at around $0.00001  then after several week, it became $0.1, I wouldn't wait any longer to sell my token.  Probably I am more of a swing trader than a long term investor.

Short term is way to go no matter how the market will be since its always not stable. Taking profit every now and then make sense and that's what the wise guys are doing actually. You aren't going to gain when you hold BTC for so long unless you were an early investor who forgot about the coins they got for awhile. You gotta signup to exchanges that offer better leverage than just 30x.

I think so, we do not know how to end long term trade, and if we lost, there is not much to do. But, short-term trading is a good choice to cut your losses quickly and evaluate every opportunity. But it is obvious that short term trade does not always provide profit. Even sometimes waiting for days is not enough and in the end, you lose. The best thing is to do what you do best.

That is a short term trading, and that is scalping trade. If you have the skills to detect the price, it will be no problem. But we don't know where the price wants to move in the next one or two hours later. It depends on the coin movement on that day if the coin has a good movement, then yes, scalping trade will be a good option to make a profit without hold too long. I prefer long term investing. Long term vs short term investment will give you a wide difference between them in terms of risk and profit. For the long term, we must have a good amount of investment. The short term investment is also good, we can get profited with it even for a day if the price increases a little bit. Changing the price every minute is also a big impact for big investors because they see big movements with their investment which is I think a good thing if they always check the price every minute or every hour.

In crypto, i'd argue that the best approach would always be long term. Just take a look at the people who bought bitcoin when it was only valued at less than $1, their investment has grown so much that if they'd kept at least 100 bitcoin they could probably already retire by now.

I like short term investment with short duration for trading or investing, but when I can't get moment with short term trading I will use other way for long term but if price down I will cut lost, I don't want all my asset only keep with investing with lower price without increase to higher because I think is not good ideas and I can use for other coin.

I guess beginners here in the forum doesn't know that this specific topic already existed. Short term and long term investment had a big difference. Short term can also be profitable but the most efficient of all is the long term investment why? because when you bought the coin and the demand of that coin increase for sure the coin that you bought will increase it's value and you are the one who will be benefiting from it.

OP's post is effective for traders that are full time trading or no other jobs than trading, it can also be done anyday were available if we really see that coin moving such price in that condition , then taking some time will really give us earning, but we cant say that this day every hour will set it ups and down some days purely drops and some days are into uptrends. It depends on our activities and time needed before we can do that way plus the time needed to watch and  analyze whether that. But remember, alt will have that trend. Some coins are good for holding and some are really for trading.

Both like me if you want short time Investment then you need good currency like BTC ETH etc but if you want long time Investment then you need other coin like choice top number in cmc. I don't agree with you on this. You don't need to be rich before you engage in a long term investment. Its all about knowing and understanding what you are investing into and having a reliable plan and strategy.

Some might misunderstand the difference of short term and long term investment.
For short term investment, you need to set a period where you can sell your coins at the right price but within the period, usually for me, a 6 months is the longer period I can hold if I go for short term.

now, speaking about the coins, I think BTC and ETH are both good for short term and long term investment, why? because they are dominant and if this market will recover and we will see some pump, we can expect that BTC and ETH will lead.

I personally do both short-term and long-term investing. For long-term investing I choose bitcoin, because bitcoin is slow-moving
and also very dominant in the market. It makes bitcoin a choice for my long-term investing is feel safe, I plan to hold bitcoin for 2 years.
I am sure for 2 years bitcoin prices will fly high, of course I will enjoy profit. For short-term I choose to trade daily, I will choose
altcoins whose movements are unstable to take profits. My favorite Altcoins for short-term BNB, PHB, LINK, XLM, and BSV.
With these coins I will play daily trading with the strategy that I have prepared of course.

I think daily trading is better and those who do daily trading are not without patience but they have knowledge in analyzing the movement of charts that will occur and it is not easy. and even in long-term investments continue to use analysis that is not much different from trading only has a difference in the time period

One have to try just to find out which one will be best for you, you might find trading to be your choice or long term holding, i personally will choose long term holding because of better worthy profit you will earn, compare to short term its not easy to make profits even if its daily e.g trading

I prefer to invest in both short term and in long term, but I use various cryptocurrencies for both, for example, if I want to get a quick profit, then I invest in new altcoins, and if I intend to get a profit after some time, then here I already invest in top altcoins, and this method has always worked and will work, and most importantly, it is more reliable.

While both have each own ways to make us profit, it will still depend on our own strategy and alt we have. there are alt that may not be able to stand in long term process since it can easily lose its value especially if there are no updates coming from the team, it is also easy to trade some alts when we noticed there's a possible chance we can benefit from them due to trends they are up to in a span of time while the long term are projects that are really in need of time to see the profit, like real estate coin related, technology products and etc. We must know the real purpose of the token to know when to classify them for short or for long term.

I support crypto and blockchain technology fully so apart from profits i want this tech to survive, id say i am into short term and long term investment in my own way, i like holding for future profits opportunity since i can't predict the future and i also like other ways like trading or mining but with trading you can lost money instantly if you don't know how, they are all risky but i like taking risks

I agree, whatever strategy we use, ultimately the performance of the coins we invest will determine the final result. Investing for long term on coins that already have a products will be profitable in the future but investing long-term in new coins that are still developing products, I don't think is the right choice

I mean between the long run and the short run so that you can get twice the profit from the capital you use. but my advice you should be able to manage your financial management correctly and make sure you do not use the main capital. use other money to start a business in this industry.

As for me, since I don't have a lot of capital. I would go for long term investment. I will at least hold it for 3 months and see what will happen. I will do some research about their roadmaps, projects, etc. and will go from there. Maybe, once I have a lot of capital I can do short term, or like quick trade in the future.

i always use both method. i learn about that token to decide want to sell in a short or long time. many coin or token are great when trade it everyday, you get small profit but it will countinously. and the others are great when you hold until some month or years. long term condition compitable for great coin like bitcoin, it have big value and you just wait for some years to make big profit.

If we can do both, why not. Long-term investing is better when we have a large capital and invest it in the top coins and for the short term myself, I do with only small capital to generate income in the short term or arguably to survive in this cryptocurrency market. We know investing in the long run is not always profitable because sometimes something happens and the price of the coin falls. So for me personally, I will take every opportunity that exists both short and long term investment.

What ever the way how to earn money with crypto with investment kind is not really care but our destination for earn much profit is come true, we can use many way how to earn money with short term investment or we can start with long term investment, I like both of short and long term investment for getting much profit.

We have different strategy that we used and it depends on our financial capability and knowledge how the market and trading works. It's good to know that you're having a good profit on short term trading, it's  good to take profit and not be greedy and end up losing funds.

Short term trading which is usually done as Day-Trading is profitable but it takes another level of expertise in cryptocurrency to become successful on this field. It requires the trader to be able to do market analysis based on the trending market information, ability to read the various trading candles and interpret etc. Long term on the other hand requires not the investor to stay glued to the PC on a 24/7 basis to monitor the trend. What matters most here is patience.

for me personally investing short-term and long-term is a good way to get profits, I like investing long-term but I can't depend entirely on it, because I also need real profits so I also do short-term to get profits by doing daily trading.

It depends. If there is an opportunity along the way, I might sell them and buy them back when the price is already at the bottom or near it since nobody can say where exactly the bottom is. I have a small amount of Bitcoin for long term hodling. But sometimes I cannot avoid playing with it depending on the market situation. For example, when the price of Bitcoin rose to $14,000, I sold some knowing that this price is going to be temporary. I was able to buy back at $8,000. That was not the bottom but I assumed it cannot go any lower than that.

The type of investing always depend on your goals. What are your goals? When do you want to reach those goals? In one year, three years, five years or more? If your goals are ranging with a timeline of one year to three years then it is best for you to go for short term investing and you should invest into something that are liquid enough to get your money fast when you want it. Long term investing are good if you are planning on getting some big purchases just like house and retirement.

I hold bitcoin and ethereum for the long term because I believe the price will increase in the future. however, for short-term investments, I do if I have the opportunity for it. even though I make not so much profit with short-term investments, but that might be enough to meet my needs in the days I want to need something.

I do prefer to short term invesment, doing it didn't says that your doing wrong your just wanted to have a money in short term. Short term investing means you need your time to hold your coin, but for short time like 3 months, or 6 months.

You're talking about trading guys. not investment. please learn between trade and investment. might have something in common. but this is different from time. investing is buying and making sales targets with more time than trading. while trading, is buying a coin, and selling when you see a profit. and there is no sales target time seconds, minutes, hours, if it's profitable then sell. other than this I prefer to trade. because as you explain. faster profits and don't wait long term.

Previously I was thinking to be a long term investor, but things have changed and my decision is getting changed. There are many disadvantages holding for long terms. You can loose your investment more than 50% due to market fall, and to get your principal, the value should grow 100%v from that point.

I'm always in for the long term. This doesn't always get me profit like the altcoins that I bought in 2018 are now worth less than 20%. I sold a lot in the bull run like LTC and it was a good choice but I also kept coins like ADA believing they might be worth  more in future but we can all see how that worked out.

For long term, i hold bitcoin and some top coin. Because i believe in the future the price can going up and used in many sector of blockchain technology.
I prefer only trading on high volume coin. For low volume i think that need long time and too risk.

So far what I have done is invested in the long term to get more income compared to the short term which only produces a small profit.

Anywhose, I've always lost money when I've tried to trade altcoins (or bitcoin) in the short term.  Well, not quite always but more often than not, and my experience was the same with trading stocks.  So a few years ago I became a bona fide buy and hold investor of whatever it is I'm investing in.

If you're on a crypto exchange buying coins and then setting your selling order immediately after the purchase, you're basically gambling.  I don't like to gamble because I find it stressful and very unpredictable.  My view of the crypto market right now is such that I think many altcoins, and bitcoin, are undervalued.  The only smart play I can see is to buy, buy, buy.  After that I'll be watching my capital gains go skyward.

I don't think the long term to have lower risks since it probably to get no results once the holding coins be dead coins. Both short and long term investments have their own risk and disadvantage. The market is very volatile and it will be very risky to trade short except if you are really skilled then long term requires a lot patience cause you have to wait for the best time to sell so you will make profits.

Of course, short and long have the same opportunity to be profitable, if we make it long term, and buying top rank coins is a good and safe thing, whereas for short term, buying new listed coins can make us get a big profit.

When deciding to invest long term, it is safer to invest in coins that have large liquidity or top 10 coin marketcaps. I think the cryptocurrency market has good and profitable potential, but we must be patient because of fluctuating price movements

Buying newly registered coins isn't risky? because they don't know the value yet and it's hard to predict, I myself have avoided trading newly registered coins because I have lost a lot of money there and I prefer the old coins to be long and short term

You should only choose one way of investing in this market and short term investment should be more encouraged during this time. At the moment the market is still unclear and there are many big risks so it should not hold for too long. I personally do not have much patience when investing and will sell when it is profitable because the bear market is still going on and people will still face many difficulties in the near future.

for some good projects, it is not bad to buy coins that are just listed on the exchange. I often do that but not for the long term. only for daily trading and not save more than 2 days. some projects that have strict regulations for bounty distribution usually have better and stronger markets. because most new coins that do not have a strong market when the bounty distribution is made will decline.

both are good methods for obtaining double profits such as long-term and short-term investments. but the problem is not everyone can do as you do, I mean trading or short-term investment. if someone does not have enough knowledge or experience they will very easily lose money in trading.

I think short term investing is just gambling with more steps but huge profits. it is not much different than going to a casino and betting money. so If you enjoy trading, swing trading, holding for a few days and getting more risk it can be very profitable, but it takes a lot of work and commitment.

Buying for the long term is much easier, and less likely to cause you to do stupid things in a panic. but it still requires you to understand the Crypto and it's prospects. I plan on holding at least 2-5 years and seeing where I'm at from there. If I've reached my goal by then, I will withdraw 50% and leave the remaining in there.

I would say that long term (like you said, two to five years) may be suitable with established coins such as Bitcoin and Litecoin. But I am not sure about going for the long-term strategy with the tokens. With these emerging projects, you need to review your strategy every couple of months. I am saying this because long-term didn't worked well for me with the smaller coins and tokens.

both short-term investments and long-term investments are equally risky. on the one hand there is nothing that is not at risk, including in this industry. but I agree that your short-term investment or daily trading can make money quickly and don't have to wait long to get profits like long-term investments. but my advice is to do both much better.

Short - term investment or long - term investment has its advantages. I' m different from you, i prefer long - term investments, and of course i' m going to have to study my portfolio very carefully. And long - term investment helps me get a higher interest rate and lower risk, track time, i can spend it on another. So i lean on long - term investments.  ;D

I am also doing that kind of strategy in doing short term investing or trading because I believe that if you hold your investment in a long term or long period of time their will be a big possibilities of being loss. And I think you can used your capital more in investing in other crypto activity when you do an short term investment so I think it is better rather than long term investment.

If you are good dealing with scalping then short term trade is always good for your investment, there's a lots of risk to take it's need good judgement and willing to accept if any miscalculations took place and you lose portions of your investment. like everything else, that if you want to get big profits then you need to take part in both of them, even I personally currently do both such as trading and also long-term investment with some of the top altcoin bags in the market. but not recommended for new users who do not have the skills and then immediately take part in trading, it is very high risk.

I think everyone has their choice to invest in the long term or short term. And actually, if we can make a profit in the short term it will be more profitable than holding a coin for a long period of time and sometimes what happens is not as expected and it becomes useless. But, for the short term at least we should be able to observe the movement of the graph to determine when the right time to buy and sell it.

It is easier for you to trade all day may be because you are not busy but for someone that is very busy, that may not be possible considering his or her schedule for the day. Short term is good but only for those who are having to allot of free time as for short term investment you will have to keep your eyes on the market all the time and also you will have to take part in daily market check. Long term offers bigger rewards when the market is good. But it is hard to find coins that will do well for a long term hodl unless you buy btc or eth (and even that can dip below your buy price over a period of time).

I prefer short term. Rewards may be lesser but with good trading capital, the profit is consistent.

Investing in the crypto market is difficult because of the high risk and unlike most other assets.  Looking at the majority of projects, the value compared to the ICO, IEO significantly reduced.  No one is really brave enough to enter such a market in the long run.  Currently I feel that only Bitcoin is worth the long-term investment and the best altcoins should have short-term investments and carefully selected.

I choose short term 15 percent interest of profits I can get earn is enough for me,  long term investment is also a profiatble but need a lot of patience wait for the pump at 100 percent price increase and that's is too greedy.

I personally will definitely choose the long term, but if the price of my altcoin increases by more than 50% in the short term, then I will immediately sell it without having to wait long term, because my target is to get a profit more than 50%, so if the price of altcoin that I have increases (giving me more than 50% profit), then I will sell it without waiting a long time.

What you are doing is day trading not investing, but that's by the way. You asked why people are holding? Have you bother knowing why most people who are called whales buys and hold large amount of Bitcoin or Ethereum mostly? The answer is because they are thinking long term. Some people bought Bitcoin lower last year, and this year you knew the story.
Now, am not saying one should run into holding, what am trying to say is, when one wants to go long term let it be with those top and trusted coins like BTC, they will surly give reasonable returns.
Also, everyone goes with what works for him, some prefer trading, some prefer investing be it short term or long term.
Lastly, the truth is, most altcoins are only good for a very short term.

You made good points though, but yet I would go for long term investing. But in this case I will not invest and hold upcoming coins because they are too risky owing to swapping etc. So I prefer top coins like BTC, ETH and XLM, these are the coins I do hold with ease. Another reason for top coins is the chances of handsome reward is high as well. 

On my behalf, long term investing brings more profit to me. Because of being patient and not selling my bitcoin few years ago, I was able to join the craze and sold a good amount of bitcoin and made well last all time high. It isn't that much as you're expecting but I call it a better profit than the short term investing that I had before.

There are coins good for short term but you shouldn't ignore longing on the best coins.

You can make smaller profits off trading alt-coins daily with decent knowledge of how to read the market, but a lot of time and effort can go into that which you can save by opting for longer term investment in undervalued or over sold assets and waiting for them to appreciate

I can't prefer you any of this. Short term is the best for the time when cryptocurrency gradually increase. If you started short time trading after Q2 2018, you can't earn profits without gather more coin. This time also possible like this profits. The time Q1 2017 was also good for long term investment.

There are only two possible investments: either we go about day trading and scalping, playing on volatility (and then we need strong nerves and a lot of luck), or we hold everything hoping that in a year, two or three the market will explode.
