Someone told me not long ago: Bitcoin is a dangerous game. It is even possible for some people or groups to take over the blockchain through a majority and destroy the entire mechanism. People don't know they are playing these games.

For a long time buying Google at a high price, Amazon and Apple are both good choices for me.

Yes, there are a lot of stocks there, there are also cryptocurrencies, there are also many bonds and debt instruments.
In the US, there are obviously 9,600 mutual funds (quick Google search)
. The question is, which of the thousands is worth buying.

Just because some or many of the available options are not good investments, it does not mean that the entire asset class is bad.

The prosperity of encryption technology is just like the technological prosperity. They have got a lot of IPOs because of various stupid ideas. Most of these technology companies are stupid and not worth it.
Nowadays, there are many ICOs, most of them are stupid and not worth it.

However, there are still opportunities to realize value.


Also about digital assets. Digital assets have become a reality.
Did you know that Fortnite had nearly $2 billion in revenue last year?
Do you know what these billion users got? Different appearances in the game can give characters different dance moves.
You can play the exact same game without paying any fees.

Because you even didn't know what is Bitcoin and also you didn't understand how the system works.  Why you've listened with someone, instead of having your own research, if that is a long time ago, I presume it was two years ago or more, and now, what happens to the Bitcoin price?  Have you disappointed with the multiple prices increased and doubled the price to the previous ATH?

It's totally different if you compared Bitcoin to other projects which are completely irrelevant.  If people feel afraid to invest in Bitcoin, it might they didn't understand yet.  Look, there are too many big investors who adopted Bitcoin and there are too many private business institutions of start adopt Bitcoin and using it as payment.  Do you think they're afraid?  

That is a very natural thing considering that bitcoin can be said to be like a bubble, it can pop at any time. call it when the market rose to the month of 2017, then suddenly fell very low in 2018. Such fast price movements make ordinary people very afraid to buy bitcoin, let alone invest in large quantities.

When your just an ordinary person and don't have any idea what is bitcoin it's just so difficult to believe especially if you don't have any experience in digital transactions.

Most of the time like some of my friends that do not believe in bitcoin cannot believe that you can actually earn that kind of profit by just investing in cryptocurrency.

And they gonna believe that especially if your in a country that when it comes to online things scam are so frequently happened and not so expose to this kind of technology

unless you have $10,000 or more to invest , I'd look at BTC as a gamble .

You don't get instant gratification, or the opposite like a slot machine gives. but it can be something you look at every day, and you could consider it like a long term investment . Unlike buying a share in General Electric, or another company that plods along giving you little dividends , BTC can make you richer than the best paying stock.  It can give you something to dream about if your life is mundane ,and going nowhere.
 

Blink once and you're rich. Blink twice and you're bankrupt. Ever since I got into cryptocurrencies I've looked at BTC this way for the longest time, as I imagine a lot of 'ordinary' people do.
They look at BTC as a volatile investment, not as a currency that has the potential to change the money system as we know it today. Plus, in all fairness, it tends to get a bit tech-savvy for older people to understand the underlying technology  ::)

Generally speaking, it appeals to the younger generation more than anything.

You can find opportunity in everything as there are very few things that are 100% efficient. There will be gaps of value in anything.

Look at the equity/stocks market today. A lot of stocks are overvalued but they continue to grow and others are undervalued and they are decreasing in price or remaining flat. If you take the time to study methods of fundamental analysis you can actually come with a fair price of each stock that interests you and invest based on that due diligence. But most people are too comfortable and think that is not necessary or too complicated. They are the gamblers and gamblers always lose money over time.

Don't be like them and take informed investment decisions which are not driven by fear, but by your reason. ;)

Knowledge is the key, if they took the time to do a little research they would realise, its too
easy to rely on mainstream media.

These statements are not used for traditional investment instruments so generally people
dont want to take chances particularly with something which is alien to them, they are
happy enough to go about their business, work hard and trust the traditional monetary system.

People are the father of lies, governments are the gods of lies while people like to believe them even if they are ignorant and depicting bitcoin bad. I still see it surprising how bitcoin is called this so called listed above but while fiat is the not perfect but used for all such too more than bitcoin. Fiat is volatile, especially in the countries that are not developed or not well developed, the fiat will be devaluing but the citizens will know but have nothing much against the governmental imperfect policies. People saying bitcoin is voaltile do not know what they are saying, those that have been holding and never sell when they are losing will gain, the price will rise back and they can possibly gain tripple or more of the investment capital.

There has been hundreds of ponzi before bitcoin existence in 2009, there has been fiat linked to criminals and ransom demanding bad peeople. Terrorism has been existing before bitcoin was created, criminals have been existing too.

There are two main reasons behind it! Let me explain below,

1. Technical understanding - Not all people are technically sound, especially the older generation. If we want to use bitcoin, it needs a certain amount of technical knowledge. People can obviously use simplified online wallets but again, it needs understanding of fees, address generation etc. So those who are not tech savy, are afraid to use bitcoin!

2. Banking propaganda - I am not sure if it's happening all over the world. But in many countries, banks have started using their money and power to run propaganda against bitcoin. I personally receive many emails from my bank which talks about the risk of bitcoin and issue official advisory not to use it. The impact of banking system is immense on the society. So those who have not entered into bitcoin market, they prefer to stay away!

Also proper awareness about cryptocurrency is missing! We obviously have many online tutorials available to understand bitcoin and its ecosystem, but that is not enough to make someone intrigued about bitcoin. We need local and micro influencers to promote bitcoin among the mass. But due to banking propaganda, it is not being fruitful.

We are ordinary people as well, we just learned about decentralization is more important than having wealth and assets that can be seized by authorities and fiat is just one of it.

If they don't know about Bitcoin then they should be afraid of it. There are scams in bitcoin and if you know nothing about the scams and Ponzi surrounding BTC, you'd be the next victim. But once you learn it, there is nothing to be afraid of. You won't even think it's volatile when you learn that its market is like ROM.

The biggest issue related to BTC and cryptocurrencies in general for newbies is the learning curve. Initially, everything seems complicated and tough to understand even though there are plenty of guides and tutorial videos out there.

This deters newbies from learning more about the cryptocurrency world and they quit in order to avoid such complications.

Other issues like scammers, hackers, TX times and fees etc also deter newbies, but they aren't as problematic as the learning curve involved in my opinion.

Ordinary people don't know anything about this space and they are also misguided by many including their Governments that this is money laundering, fake money, virtual unreality and whatnot. This makes up their mind that they should not invest in it or chances of losing their entire money is realistically high. These people should be asked that in which asset class, they don't need to bear any risks? Everything comes with a risk and any investment involves risk to a certain level which is why a disclaimer is attached everywhere that you should only invest what you can afford to lose.

Those who invest in Bitcoin are pretty much ordinary people as well, the only difference is that they take out their time to research and understand it and how it works, as one should do with any potential investment.

If changes in the market would render you bankrupt, then you are investing far more that you can afford to lose. Understanding how to invest and the levels of risk to take is important for anyone interested in bitcoin.
Bitcoin is also more than price volatility and speculation, there are several other qualities which makes it unique as a financial asset and a medium of exchange.

Bitcoin is still considered as a new type of asset and that's why people who are into investments are not willing to dive in on it because they're careful and only knew about traditional investments.

But as time gets in, there are more and more people that are willing to take risk and thanks to those exposure from the media and known personalities who are giving their thoughts about bitcoin.

People are scared because most of them had been in bad experience regarding in bitcoin some of them got scammed by ponzi scheme like my friends i told them not to invest their money into some imaginary profit that promising good return within few weeks yet they still follow that's why when you're luck of knowledge much better to do some research before risking your money, Secondly most of people are just reading news and just go on the flow when they invest into bitcoin and suddenly drop their money probably lose some point and for them that's scary because they not even touching money but still reducing.

Every direction connected with investment and money is dangerous. In my opinion lots of people who are afraid of changing something in their lifes of course are afraid of Bitcoin also. It is easier for them to tell that it is bad or risky than to make steps, learn in deep and even may be to risk.

You have already called them names: "ordinary people", how would they not feel afraid in a new market that need cautions, even the old guys are still much afraid of the downs and ups in the market. We shouldn't pretend to say we don't really understand what happened to the last sect that invested into Bitcoin 2018-2019, even the sect before this ones, these season has created more fears in the heart of many concerning this technology called Bitcoin.

Am ordinary man is short sighted person because it does not believe on cryptocurrency, they really afraid of bitcoin because tey feel what government who is against cryptocurrency taught of crypto network, believe me  from these point of mine, one of the major element while many people is afraid of crypto is because all their mindset is that bitcoin is a scam, that with the aid's of bitcoin people can be easily duped from online shopping or online transaction, and some lack a tangible information towards cryptocurrency in general, so is best known to people who is afraid of bitcoin while they decides to isolate crypto network.

You've explored the web to find all the available forms of investment. Further taken list of the entire number of mutual funds available for investment. You've good ability, and why you're going for someone's suggestions. You better have a research about the different market, try to experience/experiment with a small fund. You'll be surprised, and that can give you the right answer than going with someone's word.

This is a classic case of how misinformation travels a lot faster than accurate information, taking over the network is not as easy as you make it seem and even if malicious actors were able to get that kind of control over the network and try to destroy bitcoin in the worst-case scenario the developers could just make a hard fork to the moment before those actors got control of the network and change the mining algorithm to make their mining rigs useless which means that those people will waste tens if not hundreds of millions of dollars just for the damage to the network to be reversed in a matter of days or weeks.

People are afraid of bitcoin or cryptocurrency because of thinking that they could get scammed from it, I have a friend who doesn't even get interested in it even though how many times I told him about it, well I already expected that this thing would happen because, in our country we have this kind of saying or statement  " for you to earn money you have to work hard for it, your sweat makes money as well". Both cryptocurrency and fiat currency is hard to earn but based on mine if you have good knowledge of cryptocurrency then it would not be too hard for you t earn compared to fiat currency.

It's untested waters for these people, they clearly have no idea of what bitcoin is or what cryptocurrencies are in the first place, so they fear of putting money into it not realizing the great potential bitcoins and cryptocurrency in general can give. Nonetheless, this fear is justified since from a logical standpoint, this is the optimal solution. To fear and stay away from it.

There are many possibilities, it depends on the individuals. We don't know what exactly was happening to the individual, so we need to ask first why they think it is dangerous in their own view. However, generally, I think here is the most likely happening to the people who say Bitcoin "dangerous".

1. They don't know well about Bitcoin.
2. They are affected by others to stay away from Bitcoin.
3. They hate Bitcoin because of certain purposes.

I personally don't feel its because of many of the reasons listed above, except for being "new". Even then, I don't think people are concerned about the longevity of the currency, as its been around much longer than most people invest in. Instead, I believe its the lack of documentation, and usability that scares people away. Unfortunately, for Bitcoin to exist in the way it does, it had to step out of the comfort zone of many people, and introduce new concepts. Now, its known that the majority of people aren't particularly fond of change, which Bitcoin does a lot. Traditional currencies have always been pretty much the same, and the principles are taught at school from a young age.

Bitcoin doesn't have this luxury, and currently we are stuck between unnecessary complexity, and jargon. Even when you come to this forum, many experienced users who have great knowledge in the subject aren't particularly good at communicating in laymen terms. Of course, Bitcoin requires someone to be specific in order to be clear, and concise about what you're talking about, but this is not friendly those that are just adopting it. I'm guilty of using jargon, not because I'm trying to sound like a smart arse, but that's how it rolls off the tongue, and is specific to what I need to communicate when asked a question about Bitcoin. However, that's just going to confuse, and scare someone new away. Unfortunately, the documentation which exists online isn't that great in communicating in laymen terms either. This is not only stunting Bitcoin's growth, but its hurting the chance for someone to come back later, and be willing to learn.

The challenge that we have as a community is trying to make it accessible for anyone to adopt Bitcoin in a quick, but secure fashion while also introducing new concepts. For example, a paper wallet is actually quite complex to a new user, because they aren't used to the practice. Unfortunately, the very name "paper wallet" although seemingly self explanatory is something hard to grasp for a new user. A "seed" is also something alien to them. These are just some of the very basic issues that we have to find a solution for to make it easier to adopt. I know, the general consensus is that a willing learner can get through this, and understand. However, if we truly want mass adoption then we should be making Bitcoin as easy to use as possible.

This is your first post and you made this thread, I appreciate it at first, hopefully, you can back again to discuss with us, answering the opinion from the other members here, not leaving after making a thread.

well, related to your opinion:
In my opinion, they only know Bitcoin from the limited thing, from one side, and not willing to spread the look at Bitcoin.
For example, some of you may only think of using Bitcoin for a game, or blind investment, money laundering, and also scamming people.
This option is probably not wrong, because some people really do it.

However, leat's broaden the point of view.
Bitcoin is a precious asset once you learn it first, you will never know what Bitcoin is without learning and seeking as many as possible. Draw the positive and negative, learn the market, and also the experiences from many more people.
You will know how worthy is Bitcoin.

We cannot blame those who don't like Bitcoin and consider that BTC is a wrong decision, harmful to get because they don't know what exactly and how exactly Bitcoin is.

There are many reasons that make ordinary people feel afraid of investing in Bitcoin, the reason for the most part is because many people do
not understand about Bitcoin. Furthermore, why do ordinary people fear Bitcoin is a matter of legality, because there are still many countries that

Thinking of bitcoin as a scam, gambling, ponzi or the like is the same as FIAT which still has a lot of scams and others. It depends on how to use the currency whether for positive or negative activities. Ordinary people who know about bitcoin and have the mindset that bitcoin is a scammer does not know complete information about bitcoin.
The need for positive education about the advantages and disadvantages of bitcoin is very necessary so that ordinary people understand about bitcoin.
Nowadays people are attracted to bitcoin because of its increasing price.

People who are afraid of bitcoin are just a group of people who don't understand what the benefits of bitcoin are and they only see the negative side without seeing the benefits that will be obtained.

One of the reasons is most ordinary people are not much aware of technology and digital currency, they don't like trouble and they are frequent to use fiat money.

Actually, the right term for that is people are not afraid but they are lack of knowledge about bitcoin. They just look into the idea of profit or earnings in bitcoin but they didn't actually focusing on the process and it's risk. So thag mostly new bitcoiners have much likely to failed and to loss their savings. And ending up being afraid that they might did again what they have gone before. Bitcoin is a very risky investment in regards to is being volatile, unstable and unpredictable value but if you will research and do some background check in it, you wil somehow prevent getting lose and being bankrupt in the end. we all know that bitcoin is too complicated but knowing only the basic will bring a lot of difference
and also if only they know how the market works, the supply and demand, halving
and other things related to the price in bitcoin that's the only time they will feel secure and get peace of mind.

The common person always fears what is unknown to him. The people who have less money to spare and invest won't invest in something blindly. Sometimes it's a good thing, and sometimes it isn't good. The common person has to learn about crypto, its technology, and how evolutionary it is. Not just as an investment opportunity.

When ordinary people start understanding that crypto is better than money, they will start using it. The crypto community has a lot to implement and execute. Isn't it obvious people will be skeptical of new "technologies"? "Ordinary" people follows the mainstream media. They don't bother doing their own research. They start believing whatever they read on the internet and this is why they feel scared of using bitcoin or investing in cryptocurrencies.
Let me tell you why. Let's say someone invests in bitcoin. He makes a lot of profit. His coins are safe. He is happy. He doesn't bother telling everyone how much profit he made or how "easy" everything became for him. Now lets consider another person who invested in bitcoin but met a series of unfortunate events. He loses a lot through his investment, his wallets got hacked or the exchange he was using froze his account. This person then reports it everywhere. Starts spreading news about his misfortune and how bitcoin fucked up his life. And these are news the "mainstream" media publishes and people read. Hence all those horror stories are what are driving people away from investing in crypto currencies.

Those people whom you think are just ordinary might be someone who owns some big company. They might not get their hands on BTC but those guys cannot be called ordinary just because they are taking care of their financial activity. they've just been vigilant on where they putting their money. We cannot force them to have the same idea as us because we never know how hard they got their money. If they get to know the good thing about investing in bitcoins, you will be surprised at how they will support it just don't lose your hope. these people are just taking their time before executing some of their plans. You just need to know that.

Same thing like when people still afraid of online shopping because they can't physically see the stuff they gonna buy,the current stage of cryptocurrency is like Internet around early 2000, many people doubtful but turn out the Internet revolutionize the world as a whole. same thing with crypto, it will eventually get accepted by the people, they just haven't realized yet the potential of blockchain.

But it is normal if someone says that bitcoin is dangerous because they do not have the right information about bitcoin, and they only read from the other website that suggests them not to invest in bitcoin. Yes. Lack of knowledge is one of the roots why people fear a new invention or innovation. Also, if they are not interested to learn about it, there's nothing much we can do. But maybe at least if they can know the basics of bitcoin and crypto, I guess that would be fine so they don't have misconceptions about it. Also, if you will make yourself available for the people you know that is interested in bitcoin, then go ahead and teach them so that they would know bitcoin is not some scam network or anything, because it's not.

It is simple. Ordinary people do not duly understand and do know everything about Bitcoin. It is a nature of human to get afraid of something they do not know and understand and they are just simply ignoring the choice of exploring or taking risk to better know such thing that is new or out of their comfort zones. Also, ordinary people most of the times do tend to listen on other people's opinion which are clearly not that knowledgeable about Bitcoin making them afraid of trying because they are thinking that they might get into the same fate like the other people experienced. Ordinary people are those types that are afraid of risk taking for it seems they are looking at the picture of advance thinking that it might not be worth it even if they are still not trying.

Ignorance, fear, and distrust are among the reason why people feel afraid of Bitcoin.  It is a natural reaction of people who do not know anything to be afraid.  Aside from that, the rampant appearance of scam companies that exploits Bitcoin's decentralized system brings trauma and distrust to people.  What worst is, people tend to believe bad rumors without verifying them, making them imagine things that are actually not the case.

It is true that a lot of people are suspicious and feel scared about bitcoin. The people who have got no technological background, it will be difficult for them to feel safe with bitcoin, as they can't see it. On the other hand, they can keep paper money in their pocket, so they feel safe and confident in dealing with it. Also, as many governments are against it, so they feel that the law enforcement agencies will take action against them if they deal with bitcoin.

It is normal that most people had dilemma on things that they don’t understand specially Bitcoin. When I first heard of Bitcoin in 2013 I thought it was really complicated and that it was utilise by different kinds of criminals. The bad impression made most people stay away from, even up to this day there are still lot of people that believe in this technological marvel.

Yes, bitcoin requires people to make those five or so extra steps to get out their comfort zone in most of the areas they try to take for granted as they are. It is not easy to recognize that the money we have in banks it is not ours in the first place but that is the bank's money. Some reasons why one will consider bitcoin as dangerous gamble is because;

(1) The ordinary man, the common man that goes about every day hustling just to survive is very careful and sometimes too calculative of where he puts his money and what he uses his money for. Because of this over calculativeness and over caution not to take any risk, most remain poor all through out their lives.

(2) Another reason is no proper education on the prospects in bitcoin and cryptocurrencies. Some speak without even knowing what it is. Some have made hasty conclusions in their mind about it and are not giving any room for there to be any form of enlightenment.

Anyway the main reason people are afraid of bitcoin is the high volatility and loss chance over their investments, without any doubts. With so many ponzi schemes and other traps around people tend to not believe in investments besides those guaranteed by the banks (which are unprofitable when put against inflation).

In my environment consider Bitcoin scams, because they lack education related to Bitcoin. So from that we really have to educate other people
a lot so that they get the correct information about Bitcoin. Even though in my country Bitcoin is legal, but the government still doesn't support it.

Thats true, majority of people in my country are just holding their money in banks and are not investing it anywhere. The fear of locking your money and not beein able to access it immediately is too high even thou they dont touch that money for years.

My story is I'm not afraid of cryptocurrency, however I'm afraid of the potential repercussions of buying/trading it due to the positions taken by banking institutions.  For example I can see the logic in banks preventing the use of credit cards for retail customers buying crypto, however I'm seeing quite a few stories of people having their bank accounts locked, mortgage applications refused etc when it's discovered they hold or trade crypto.  Whilst I understand there are ways to circumvent this, my further concern (e.g. if I apply for a remortgage at some point) is this being discovered and my application being refused.  We're living through transitional times where banks are trying to prevent their customers from buying/trading crypto (done to protect the customer from themselves they say) however I think a large part of this is banks obviously want to protect the status quo (fiat etc) and they don't know how to react to all this crypto stuff.

So my fear isn't of the actual products, it's of what the repercussions could be for me with regard to fiat banks and being considered a safe / low risk customer.

And it's frustrating me as I think it will ultimately stop me investing :(

They mostly think about scams and having doubts inside. Some take the risk as they opened up their mind but many were still knowing nothing about this and keep ignoring. We can't blame them either for not improving their lives as they just ignore this great opportunity.

If they only had welcoming crypto before when the price is cheap, they can surely see the difference happening to them. But somehow they keep themselves blind, it sounds sorry for them. Since I first heard and started reading about Bitcoin, my main personal concern was if it was scam or if i was gonna all lose my money. When I get used to Bitcoin and other altcoins I started telling about it to regular people like friends and family members. Most of them just didn't believe it, they told me that it might be ponzi etc. It just couldn't get their attention. But when it reached to 10000 usd first time, people started calling me to ask how they can buy it etc.

I work in finance and I can tell you that "ordinary" people, or ie the masses, are afraid of investing in anything and everything for the most part.  A good chunk of people are "afraid" because they simply do not understand and they are often too lazy to do any homework for themselves so when they hear people tell them " oh watch out for this, or watch out for that" then they do.  It amazes me how many people take financial advice from their co-workers and or family members who have no financial background what so ever.

I partly agreed with this. I believed the problem is how the media portray crypto especially Bitcoin. I remember that way back then media only shows the negative impact of using Bitcoin like it is being used in some shady business which is pretty biased I think. I also remember that my family once heard the news regards it and they knew that I was using Bitcoin, they told me to stay away from it, but I explain everything. This is what happens to a person who gives us negative speculations against bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies. They thought of a situation that wouldn't ever existed, so it made them hesitant on investing towards the platform. Staying out of Bitcoin doesn't automatically mean they are afraid. Some people are just so aware of how risky investments are and Bitcoin is no exemption. They've rather choose to run their own business. Not everyone has the same mindset like us who finds Bitcoin as an outlet in hopes to acquire financial freedom or become rich.

Biggest factor is the volatility. For those who are new to bitcoin and don't have experienced yet a big price fluctuation, they will definitely panic when they see their investment lose when a correction or massive dump happens. While there are some people that are afraid of bitcoin because someone scammed them by using it as an investment scheme. With the big companies now investing in it, more people now are starting to get curious and know for themselves what is really bitcoin and what can it do.

When you are just an ordinary person and don't know what Bitcoin is, it is hard to believe, especially if you have no digital trading experience.
Most of the time, just like some of my friends who don't believe in Bitcoin, they can't believe that this kind of profit can really be made just by investing in cryptocurrencies.

What convinced me was when a buddy of mine found some old thumb drives laying around in 2017 or so, with about 30 BTC in them when the price hit like 1k per coin.  Thrilled at the rewards found, he sold.  Heck I think he only paid 3K for them total.  He traded it for SOLID GOLD coins and I handled the stack of Gold coins he got.  That convinced me that Bitcoin was worth something and worthy of looking at.

lol, I know, just think if he had kept them until today?  Well, the same goes for any investor today with the prices being discussed as hitting 100K and beyond.  You can either act on this or stay and watch the world go by without worrying about it.  No loss.  No harm.  But don't get jealous of those who had the guts/fortitude to hold.  That takes serious restraint and deserves to be rewarded just like everything else people invest in hoping the value increases.

Just like BTC, the stock market isn't guaranteed to make anyone rich.  But there are those things called "blue chip" stocks that have proven over time to be prudent and wise investments.  Still no guarantees as any of those companies could go belly up at any time.  But once they become an institutionalized part of the economy for the value it brings then it's much harder to fail.  BTC is headed in that direction today.

It depends on what do you mean by saying ordinary people. In case ordinary people that just work in ordinary office from salary to salary, so such kind of people do not like risks and prefers something that is less but stable. Personally, I think there are two major reasons people are afraid of bitcoin.

I think it's difficult for an ordinary person to see the value in Bitcoin. The value in Google, Amazon and Apple is obvious. They make physical products and services that are used and solve problems. At present, Bitcoin does not really solve a real problem. At least not for the average ordinary person. By your ordinary people you mean the government? The banks? A few extremely wealthy folks? I asked because these are the sets I know are truly scared of Bitcoin. The supposedly ordinary people in my books are the masses/poor folks and by all intent, these ones don't seem to be scared of Bitcoin. Interesting, I just had a friend who I went to  highschool with asked me about if Bitcoin was something he should look into, this was several months ago, at the time, I think BTC was around 30,000.   I told him that I had bitcoin and was in on it from the beginning, (with disclaimer, (this is not financial advice) LOL)  I do not know if he decided to invest or not.   (have not heard anything so I think he did not buy any) who knows for sure but it does look like the average person is just not going to be interested in nerd stuff, (That is basically what this is) Nerdsville, If you were a nerd in school, chances are that you are doing much better than your contemporary classmates.   The one thing that is interesting here about BTC that is, Inflation is not a problem, this is the opposite of classic inflation like in the past, in the 1900s, Hyperinflation, with regard to paper money because a real issue, As well today, we have paper money that has been inflated by printing more money, which devalues the overall value of that currency.   With Bitcoin, it is the opposite at least for now.   I expect the price to go up and down, with a big adjustment likely coming up this month or early next month.   But it will go back up.

Actually, for most people who afraid of Bitcoin,  they won't even try to test cryptocurrency like me. But, when I first made money from cryptocurrency, I fell in love with them and spent a lot of time studying them. No one could reject cryptocurrency as long as people are willing to try.

There are also some people who deliberately want to show and talk about only bad news about Bitcoin. I don't understand this kind of people too. Basically, this is the ignorance of the subject matter why most people are afraid of something. If they will start educating themselves, they will learn more and so they will understand the true nature of it. And I guess, they will be the one endorsing it to their family and friends once they get acquainted with bitcoin or crypto. The risk in every business, so what you as businessman/woman need to do is to study it well before venturing into it. Moreover, you can't invest in every business. To me, Cryptocurrency business is not risky. I always get more than what i invest in; i loose in some but the gain of others cover it.

Because it's still something new to them. Because it has big fluctuations. Because people are used to fiat money for centuries. It's always hard to accept something new.

There are a lot of people that only listen but don't verify information that they're hearing from other people. It's a sad thing that many are gullible with false information without doing depth research.

It all depends on what you mean when you say "regular folks." Ordinary folks who merely work in an ordinary workplace from paycheck to paycheck do not like risks and desire something that is less risky but more reliable. If you mean regular folks who haven't invested in Bitcoin since its inception or who have invested during its downturn, they may have a variety of personal reasons.

The last point is important because it refers to the fact that most people can't explain what money is. Money is a social construct based on trust and not the government gives it value, but the people who use it. If they understood that, they'd know why Bitcoin has value with all its superior properties.

Because ordinary people do not have enough knowledge about crypto. Due to that some other people may use their innocence to scam them. Another reason I am seeing is that, they think that it is networking or pyramiding. On the other hand many kind of online scheme can earn thru referrals, and encoding so they may think that crypto is the same thing. In that case, they may avoid crypto without really knowing what crypto is.

Ordinary people are afraid of Bitcoin because of its high volatility I guess. And they don't know much about its system as it is completely different than fiat money. I said high volatility because not everyone is very eager to make an investment into it just for that reason.

I think because they still don't understand about bitcoin and don't have any idea how big bitcoin could be in the future. I had friend and he has a expert in stock market even the price of BTC already rise every year she still don't believe and scared about volatility crypto.

They are afraid because they don't count cryptocurrencies as real money due to its not being physical.  And this can be really one of the most old-fashioned thinkings.  ;D  Digital money is our future. We already use credit cards instead of paper money, for example. Why don't they see it in the same way? The other reason of being afraid could be its volatility. People who don't have much knowledge about this market are afraid to lose a lot of money if they invest in a crypto.

Media makes them feel like that way.  They have been portraying bitcoin mostly with  negative associations: Tulip pyramid scheme, black market, criminality etc.  No ordinary person questions the magic of the mighty dollar.

That's why investments should not come from debt. When investing consider it as an excess money something that we can wait not to use when the price is too low or not to sold easily or better to use the profit into another generating investment. The market is too volatile that anyone should know how risky it is. Many tries it without knowledge ended up not really using the opportunities that can get in crypto investing. Nothing will happen if we only got fear better learn how to recover the fear by studying thearket.

There are many reasons why ordinary people are still afraid of bitcoin, which is definitely because they do not have the knowledge and understanding of bitcoin and only know the risks without knowing the benefits.
and as long as there is bad news about bitcoin, they will not try it and over time if they have curiosity they will try to learn it supported by positive news about bitcoin.
and apart from that nothing regulates bitcoin and nothing requires them to get involved with bitcoin, just their own awareness and belief in bitcoin.

The major reason why majority of the people is staying away without investing in cryptocurrency is because of the high volatility and that combined the number of scams taking place in the market and the number exchange hacks and most of the time these exchanges cease to exist after the hack leaving its customers dry and with all these risk involved majority will stay away from the market because the risk weighs much higher than the benefits it offers.


 

Yeah.. recently one of the South African exchanges got hacked and $4 billion worth of coins were stolen. And in the end, it turned out that the coins were stolen by the promoters themselves (Cajee brothers). These sort of incidents really scare ordinary investors. But at the same time, they need to understand that Bitcoin is an asset that can be stored by the individual without the help of any exchange or third party website. At least some of the noobs go for exchange wallets, because they are too lazy to create the wallets themselves. In such cases, they have only themselves to blame.

Generally most of the ordinary people are liking what's something real and guaranteed money but Bitcoin fully non guaranteed investment and it's has huge amounts of risks. Sometimes market crashed , they fell into losses. So they can't take Bitcoin as easily.

Sometimes it does matters with some basic education or literracy but if you are a person who do fully dependent on whats those traditional things then you would really be having that impression that whenever a new thing that you do experienced or encountered will really be still a big question mark in your mind.

Your limited knowledge will really be putting you into the situation where you do believe that it should be avoided.You hadnt opened up your mind on accepting on changes or new things which would really result on missing out the action or opportunity.

This doesnt only talks about being afraid with Bitcoin but also in other things as well in life whenever you do make new encounter.

There is no doubt that certain drawbacks are there for Bitcoin. As you have mentioned, high fees and delays in getting confirmations are some of them. But remember that the developers are working hard to get around these issues. Lightning Network is being touted as a solution for these issues, but right now it is not very user friendly. But as I mentioned, the developers are working hard to make it less complicated and accessible for everyone. And hopefully, a majority of the users will be using LN within a few years time.

- With a voluntary response in exposure to bitcoin and information, ordinary people has a better rate of sticking to and investing in bitcoin but from what i see their reaction is just coercion, they don't like bitcoin and referrals keep popping up for them, they can understand it but psychology has formed compulsion, it still scares them towards bitcoin in some particular way. It can't hurt to put some effort into understanding what Bitcoin really is. It is quite different from a software where it's not important to understand why software does what it does. A lot of people still can't understand how much world depends on internet right now. People at my job thinks BTC is just a scam and big bubble. Even young folks don't trust in BTC and I'm not trying to convince them because i don't wanna look like obsessed.

Communications and shopping and commerce depends on internet but I think a lot of people also overestimate how much we really need the internet. Our parents did fine without it,,, in fact had better and richer lives. The same for 1 billion people in the world who do not have internet.

Good not to convince people,,, there is not much to convince right now I would say even more so for BTC (right now). I love the currency and want it to succeed but I think we are not realistic if we say it is going to save the world and change our lives.

Totally agree with both of you. If we really do the research and learn about bitcoin i believe most of them who doing it will love bitcoin and will falling in love with bitcoin. Most of them who afraid with bitcoin i think they just lazy and don't want to be "Curious" to know something NEW in this world. But in the end it comes back to the individual of each person. If they decided not to be curious about something "NEW", then they would forever be left behind.

I believe that ordinary people do not have even the slightest of idea about what Bitcoin is which is why they are afraid. They are majorly afraid of high price I think and a major portion among the ones afraid are not that much tech savvy or not much related to technology.

As much as Bitcoin is a legit platform, one can still get scammed if one isn't careful. I do not blame the ordinary man that has had a bad experience before or the one that believes Bitcoin is a stupid game, what differentiates us really is knowledge. In my opinion, ordinary people think that bitcoin transactions are very risky and there is a possibility of losing their money. They also think that bitcoin is illegal in many countries so they are more afraid of it.

People are afraid of what they do not understand and that is one of the biggest problems with Bitcoin. People do not feel compelled enough to research and learn about Bitcoin not at the moment. As Bitcoin continues to rise over its life span more and more people will realize that they are missing out and will do their own research given enough time. At the moment we are just going to have to build up our own reserve and wait for the slow to catch on people to finally invest.

I think it is not really fear that they are feeling. I feel that it is really their lack of interest to invest in what they deem a non-traditional asset. I see people in media reacting negatively to something they do not even researched in the first place. I find it unfair that some media celebs in our country react negatively to something that they don't even know about and I felt vindicated when somebody commented to that media person to stop commenting if you don't know crap about the topic which he apologized then in that manner.

People are afraid of it because many of then think that Bitcoin is just a speculative resource that makes people rich (or poor). Part of them think that "they are not traders, they dont all that smart graph trading stuff". They visualize trading based on the movies. Trading crypto to them is like stock trading in a room with traders shouting, lots of screens and etc. But when they realize what blockchain is, how Bitcoin is used in it and all technology behind it, they get totally confused.

But we shouldn't forget that it is indeed a highly speculative thing to get into Bitcoin. Lots of people know someone who lost money but also someone who made money. I can understand that many are afraid of a crash like in 2017. I know some guys who frequently ask what they should do. They kind of want to get involved but are afraid of crashes a lot.

Yes, speculative. But that is what most of the people see, skipping whole technological part. People see only small part of the Bitcoin technology and their knowledge is narrowed to "Bitcoin-money-probably a pyramid". They dont know about the possibilities of blockchain and its usage.
Like you said, their remember how Bitcoin crashed, but they dont even realize how useful blockchain technology is nowadays. They are afraid of loosing money and they are not experienced with long term holding.

People are usually afraid of obscurity. All my surroundings don't understand economic issues and consider all financial instruments(shares, bonds, cryptocurrencies) to be deceptions. And all these stories, when people lose their money only worsen the situation.
They also say that Bitcoin is too dangerous and people who invest in it just waste their money. As soon as people learn about Bitcoin and Blockchain they will definitely change their opinion.

I think they are afraid of losing. While some people don't just believe in Bitcoin. They thinks Bitcoin is scam. They don't even research on it, because, if one research about bitcoin and knows it, he/she wont be afraid of Bitcoin. I know one can't basically understand everything about Bitcoin at once, but with time, you will definitely know how it works. And also, doing some research and reading articles on Bitcoin also helps. Ordinary people never think about investing, their major focus will be on saving. This is not because, they don't know about investments. The preference is to stay on the safe side without risk. Being afraid is normal but doesnt mean that we shouldnt touched up specially if we do see that it is becoming the new trend or on where it does have big community.You should open yourself

I was scared the first time I came into contact with Bitcoin, because it involves my money, and I dare not take my money to risk it because I don’t understand Bitcoin.
