Just as the topic says, there are times where we tend to make wrong judgment in gambling  based on the outcome of the game. Take for instance, if a gambler has the opportunity to cash out from his bet which is eventually higher than his staked amount and he refuses to cash out, if the game  end up in loss and he tells the story, its very easy to term him a greedy gambler. But if another gambler is presented with thesame opportunity and decides to hold on until the game end and he eventually wins the game, we tend to see such person as smart to not give up. Lol it funny how we make judgment. This is also how we think of addicted gambler who is lucky to win some huge amout as strategic gambler meanwhile another gambler who is not lucky enough to experience a good win we term them as addicted gamblers.

That's what happens here. You post a screenshot and suddenly everyone has to say something. I don't blame the ones making the comments though. If someone invites comments it's entirely on them for having to understand not to take everything seriously. Peope say some damn stupid things when gambling and especially when commenting on other people's gambling. The truth is only you know what you can afford to lose and what it means to you.

I’m not left out - there are times when I make such type of comment while other times I tend to be more logical and give comments that goes both ways - in cases like this where we are presented with bets and then asked if they made the wrong choice by cashing out even when the bet would have gone well.

Most times we make comments without having to experience such a thing or during the time we experienced it we didn’t have to worry about anything or wasn’t in a tight spot like the Op of the thread thus the reason for that comment - when you actually have a first hand experience of such a complicated issue you tend to disregard majority opinion and go with more logical arguments and trust me you’ll find them just that most of the other comments have made them a bit difficult to see.

And that's how it is mate, gambling is risking for the unknown, there are no smart judgement here. We are betting on the outcome that we didn't know and so there will be times that we make the right judgement, i.e. according to you we are smart.

But then if we don't make the correct judgement we call them greedy gamblers, or worst, dumb one.

It's the risk that we take, and it can go either in our direction or not. Yeah, perhaps some of us will turn into a addicted gambler because of our decision. But we should be man enough and accept if we lose and not be too carried and emotional.

What happened is that whatever thing we do we should apply moderation and lower how we desire a particular thing from the gambling sites, this could be either how long we spend gambling and how much we spend gambling or how much we desired to make from every single bet with this there are lower chances of achieving what they (we) want from gambling. I like your points in the OP because it states the fact and that is a flaw which humans have. Sentiment, we think we are logical but we are not. We are quick to point out the speck in the eyes of the other fellow but fail to see the log in our own eyes. We are quick to draw quick conclusions to suit our skewed narratives of other people. And we would never label ourselves as greedy gamblers if we were in presented with the same opportunity and refuse to cash out even when the game ends loss and we lose our bets or in the second instance.
 

Such is the reality of this life we living, because no one actually knows the truth about anyone's predicaments, we can only show empath, but what I detest the most is when people are quick to give a second opinion mostly as regards my gambling games or the odds I pick or how I allow the game turn out, that is not asked, because they feel they would have either done better or because they think the person, who of course is me, is addicted and can't think clearly or that I may just be too greedy.

I see you are referring to the sport betting and in here rarely are addicted persons compared to slot machines. I think you are misunderstanding what they mean by a gambler is greedy. Although I understand the angle you are coming from but when the way i understand being greedy in gambling is when a gambler has the opportunity to stop gambling after he has won some money, instead he wants to chase for more win whether he won the game or not I consider such a a person to be greedy.

The view depends on the final result obtained, people are only good at commenting. If they were in the same situation, maybe the circumstances would not be much different. You already made everything clear in your post because the society always wants to identify with success, so the moment a gambler losses his bet, automatically his not lucky or skillful enough but when the reverse os the case, then such a gambler is also automatically seen as very skillful and that’s how the life has been made to be and there’s nothing we can do about it for now that’s why I just said that, you should always try to stay profitable.

And I was a greedy person when I used to gamble. I couldn't calmly stop and take my winnings even if they were many times higher than the initial deposit. I want to say that it is important to look not only at the surface, but deep into the player and not judge him by his wins or losses.

Most times is usually about logically weighing the odds because most times if on a mathematical basis or statistical basis you have a very thin chance of winning and still had the opportunity to cash out and refuse to then such a person would easily be referred to as a greedy gambler.

At first, the topic of this thread attracted me here and I thought it to be a smart or greedy gambler or perhaps it was an error from the OP but all the same, it was quite alright based on my understanding and coupled with experience, I have been in situations were I bet game and right in me I would be doing my analysis to see the end of the game when it is cashout time and in some cases, I cash out and the game ends against my bet and in some cases, I miss out of the game but often I have had the experience of cashing out and the game ending against my bet. I believe many would call it a smart move and yes of course it would be seen and called that way but when it happens that one insists on allowing the game to end without cashing out and losing everything, they are seen as greedy. Many of virtually all gamblers have had that experience and it is not new to the gambling world so I believe it is not a thing that would bother any gambler to get worried about but a thing of thought to gamblers if they are really gambling for fun or they are gambling for profit and also, is the gamble within their limit ie, what they can afford to lose if the game goes south. All these are what should be in our school of thought as gamblers to make sure we gamble moderately and not get addicted.

I don't think it's greed, gambling is a matter of luck, probabilities, taking risks. If the gambler wants to continue, it's natural. I prefer to quit when I'm winning, any amount more than what I bet is profit!

I think that each person should define what amount of money they expect to get in a parlay and what decision they would make if in the last game there was some bad news and they felt that there was a high risk of losing. I think it is the nature of most humans to condemn in public what they do in private, just because someone is not there to see them make the same mistake. And yes it happens to almost every gambler, if luck is on your side and you win your game, you'll get nice comments because you have good results to justify your action. People would say you analzed your game well and all.

But if you lose and start feeling regret, you're obviously going to get some bashing from people, that you could have cashed out while you'll get encouragement from some. As a gambler just know what is good for you and forget about what people will say. Because people will always have opinion about everything. It's kind of complicated, why I said so is because of the believed that every man has greed but not all has the ability to control it. As we know, greed is an excessive desire for something and we can sometimes fall trap to our desires. Just like the example you gave, if perhaps I was gambling and I had a cash out offer of 2-5x of the amount I staked, I will happily take it and I wouldn't consider myself as not being smart, if anyone says that I was not smart for not holding the position till the end of the game, then it's their business, they can not make decisions for me. When one already have a well deserving cash out offer and they refused to take it, that is greed but when the offer is not deserving enough, perhaps too poor, then you will have to wait.

Take for example that I staked on a game and the potential win is $800k, and while the game was running, I saw a cash out offer of $500k and within myself, I know that I have not seen such amount at once in my life, I will have to take the cash out bro, even if the game becomes successful at last, I wouldn't blame myself because I got a deserving amount already, but if I didn't accept the cash out and for example i have not even had $200k before in my life, then it's a worse case of greed bro.

but this is pretty normal probably in any industry. take clothing industry. not to mention big brand names, but even the ones for "normal" people each year HAVE to create a new product with a revised logo and so on. But, there are times when cashing out early is better when the outcome of the game is a complete loss. So, in this case I don't think there are greedy or smart gamblers, because cashing out early is still part of the strategy and if they do it right, then the strategy works. After all, when cashing out then of course the result will always be lower, but if the result is really a loss then cashing out faster is also a good way to reduce losses. But yes, if they can accept losing, then of course it would be better every time they bet then let the bet run until the final result is obtained, because then it might be assumed that the player is a real bettor by prioritizing his luck.

I have to agree with you in the area of the judgement we did to some gamblers who are gambling addicted. However, I believe we made the judgement based on some gamblers who naively made the wrong decision and those that don't understand the concept of the game.
Meawhile, this is quite different from a gambler that bet on a game, which was later giving the chance to cashout before the end, and s/he choose to cashout and the game end in a loss.

That is right. The terms greedy gambler and smart gambler do not imply the decision a gambler is making on his game. It is other persons who classify a gambler as either greedy or smart. But everyone has the right to gamble how they want. Suppose they want to leave their bet to keep going on till the game ends. That is their choice. No one is in the right position to judge a gambler, in my opinion.

i guess you could say that there are just lucky gamblers because sometimes you make a decision based on nothing but a hunch when you are offered a cash out option, the actual end result of the match is uncertain it could go in your favor and you win the maximum possible money or you lose and you end up walking away with nothing at all

We do say it's luck and congratulates the gamblers if he wins but do not do the same to a gambler that have lost his bet because his not lucky. However the difference between addicted gamble and a responsible gamble is the patterns of gambling. A responsible gambler gamble responsibly but addicted gambler gamble reckless. But the both of them often get winning sometimes when they are lucky.

I clearly understand your point and at the same time you're right, I said this because you can't please anyone in life. Being greedy is the reality of gambling. We risk money for a better outcome which isn't known. We'll know the result only after sometime, and the outcome can be a win or else it'll be a loss. No one bet with the mind to loss, which means everyone is greedy as said by the above member. The difference is how much they expect out of a bet shows the level of greediness. In my view placing a $100 bet and expecting $20 is fair, but $100 and expecting $1000 is greed. It is possible, but the risk is really bigger than what we experience with the $100 bet for $20 win.

I've seen gamblers who have made up their minds not to cashout even if the cashout reward is 5x+ bigger than their staked amount.  One do the reason gamblers refuse to cash is based on their previous experience.  There is this gambler i came across with and he also had this mindset of not cashing out until the last game has ended. And his opinion was, he has lost several opportunities to have made huge wins but because of fear of losing everything he cashed out but at the end the ticket was read as win but since he cashed out early he was not eligible for the full amout. So since then he has made up his mind to not cash out. But the only problem is sometime you lose everything or win everything it's as simple as that, but from my perspective since I don't see gamble as a get rich quick scheme I'll accept whatever cashout is presented provided its highe than my stake... after cashing out I'll use some of the money to restake the remaining games.

You are right, I am just one of the few humble gamblers who don't want something big from gambling, the truth is this game is too risky, and I am not ready to lose my head because of gambling, so I never use more than I can afford to risk, instead of risking too much money I prefer risking few dollars and if my wins isn't that great either I will still be happy about it.

People call me names for risking very small money all the time, one said this is why I haven't make any life changing money from gambling but I don't care, the goal was never to make any life-changing money but to be responsible about gambling.

I agree with that. But there are other ways that we could use gambling for good. Sports for example. When you have been following a sport since you were a kid, there will be a time that you will get bored with it. I did. But after I bumped into sports betting, everything was spiced up again. I get to check the rosters, updates, and injuries, and watch the game more because my money is also at risk while watching the game. Then, I get to cheer better for my favorite team because my money is also on the line. There were times before when I watched a whole game without any emotion anymore but thanks to sports betting it became lively again.

Man, there are all kinds of times in gambling... I don't know how else to say it. To say that we sometimes make the wrong decisions is an understatement, there have been moments where the decisions were more than disastrous. But it's not all black, there were good & great times as well. So we can make only one conclusion, many people have written the same lines so many times: "Gambling life is full of ups & downs".

As for the second part: "After the battle, everyone is a general!" When things happen, it's easy to act smart and talk about what could have been done better/differently... Ignore what most people say, do things the way you think & feel it's best.

We don't want to see ourselves on that tough situation. Having this realization is a good thing as a gambler because we know that we have limitation. And we're trying to avoid somethings that we don't us to be in, and that's why.

Those that are lucky can take risk for as long as they can and as long as their pockets can take it.

I agree that greed is at work in almost everyone when it comes to gambling and once they win they bet and risk more to get a little more. When a gambler loses they try to gamble more to get back the money they lost. Greedy gamblers are not aware of their financial limits. They gamble with money that they should be using for other essential purposes.

I totally disagree with you on what you just said above, because it's not all gamblers who are greedy in the first place, but most just come to try their luck with an amount of money they can always afford to lose. And that is never a sign of greediness. Because according to Oxford online dictionary, we were meant to understand that "Greed simply means an intense and selfish desire for something, especially wealth, power, or food. It often involves wanting more than is needed or fair", and as such, it clearly indicate that as long as you are still gambling without a selfish desire of wanting to win more, but gambling what you can always afford to lose. You are not a greedy person, but rather a responsible gambler.

I think that there are no non-greedy players. Absolutely any gambler will be happy with a win, no matter how much he claimed before that he absolutely does not care about money. Our life is endless expenses and if someone gets a lot of money it always means that he can feel calmer. And this applies to absolutely any person.
Therefore, self-control is needed in gambling. Every player is greedy, but someone is very greedy and someone knows how to be calculating and calm.

I'm not that much a fan of cashing out because I've seen an amount bigger than my stakes. It doesn't make much sense to me while I still have other games running. The only exception to this of course is that my cashout option is up to 80% of my pot. winnings or more, then I can convince myself that even if the game finally wins, I am loosing only 1/5 of the total price. I've cashed out many times and the games converted, I don't think I'm cut out for that regrets anymore.

Losing the money at the end isn't challenging at all to me since I gamble already with an amount I can afford to loose. We are gamblers and we entertain losses, but to me it is more painful you lost a good hit because you ended up cashing out too early.

While I might consider the guy that cashed out on his/her bet to be smart, I would see the person that did see it through to be some die hard gambler. It’s what I expect of most gamblers anyway. The functions are there, cash out, insurance and whatever there might be to mitigate against them losses.
Having to cash out just before it becomes a lost bet is smart move but, doesn’t make you hardcore. Staying to see it through does because, you’ve just got to go with your prediction.

You're on point, there are more of addicted gamblers in other casino games than in sport betting reason being that, sport games  takes 90 minute + for the game to finally end with score result, though there are other options  to pick from that will determine  the status of the ticket  even before the end of the game. You're very correct, of course every gambler has different courage in taking risk which is true. Because there are some gamblers who always bet using a huge amount of money yet they don't panick maybe when the outcome didn't work as they expected and when you see such gambler you will be thinking that he is just being so greedy to use such a huge amount of money to gamble. For me I don't look at it that way so far as he can bare the risk, I think that's what matters everyone must not have the same intention towards gambling.

When it comes to losing your money what has confidence got to do with it. You have having confidence in something you know can change against you at any moment is not something I fancy. If they have so much money that they don't want to accept any cash out offer, people can not say they are greedy. I had my own topic about cash-out, you must understand that the cash-out is just another bet.
You bet your current won amount on the last or the remaining matches, you think the matches will be a loss or a win.

Technically and spread over a multitude of games, the probabilities converge, so your smart gambler that takes cash-out early will end with the same results as the greedy gambler that waits and waits till it hits one huge win.
There is no bulletproof tactic that will ensure a winning strategy, in the end it's a matter of possibilities, which mean probabilities, which is math, and since odds and cash-out options are calculated by raw math on probabilities, the end game after a ton of those will be 99.(9)% the same.

I always advise folks to always be In the safer side so we can’t tell if we are going to be lucky on not in particular gambling session but we can reduce or should I say minimize our losses like not going in with huge amount of money ( gambling with what you can afford ) and cashing out when necessary than to always wait for the game to conclude I know if you don’t wait you won’t end up with some nice wins , but look on the bright side there are chances of you losing at the end of the game so you securing some win before the game conclude will put you in a safer side is better to win small than to not gain anything at all .

I agree with you mate. In gamble we cannot always make positive predictions and that is why there are no expert gamblers. We are only beneficial of gambling wins because  luck  was on our side,  its ok for most persons not to cash out after all they are responsible for their actions and its their personal choice but for me, i'v realized that one of the ways of minimizing loses is when you seize little opportunities given to you. And cash out is one of them, provided the cash out amout is higher than my stake its a profit for me except in rear cases where I decide to wait for the full game end result probably  because the odds of wining is high.

This is not totally true, when we speak about gambling addiction, I assure you that it's not the same as we speak about gamblers that are spending more time if their session trying to win something. When I give an opinion on this topic, I follow two things: what the gambler is actually gambling for: is he gambling just for entertainment or for earning.
And if I see that he is betting for money making, then even if he wins I will say he is doing stupid things. And if the purpose of that gambler is only for entertainment, then I would say that in one case, luck favored him and in another case, luck did not favor him.

True. Since the factor is luck, it is very difficult to determine the wins. Sure, it is better to withdraw and enjoy the prizes whenever we succeed winning the games. Are there many lucky players winning a lot of money and being called "wise"? Yes, there are!
But there are also players who study, plan and work hard to get rich with a lot of effort, low risk and merit, not by luck!

Once they see their win money in their account, they think that I can increase that money by place my bet on the other gambling games. But that will not as easy as they think because gambling will not let gamblers win so much money. Casino can take all of their money without they realize.

I can not blame anyone for losing if their gambling strategy doesn't work because the strategy can work sometimes. Cash out if you don't want to extend your risks but if you have the guts to continue by all means go for it. The important thing is to gamble responsibly with amounts that you can afford to loose, this is where my focus lies, when I stake with a small amount I can decide to cash out or continue depending on what I want at the time.

So, when gamblers are presented with stories where someone should've won but flopped it, it doesn't go down well with the hearers/listeners. That's why we get to find such comments like it's judgemental.

While if you decide to accept some profit before the end of the game and at last the game becomes successful, some people would say the gambler was not smart. Some people think that a smart gambler is someone that will hold unto the game till the end but it must not necessarily be so, if my bet gives me a good amount as cash out, I will take it and even after I do, the game still turn out positive, I wouldn't regret it, because I didn't lose.
