Title: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: peter0425 on August 05, 2025, 08:08:22 AM I remember a post here before saying that it was better to just not aim for experiencing luxurious things because you will get used to it and it will be difficult when you go back to not being able to afford them. It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals.
Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? Or maybe because they are just not aware of the greater things in life since they have never experienced it ever? As opposed to someone who grew up rich but later on in life became poor, since he has experienced what it is to have a better life maybe he will be more motivated to get there. Are poor people just working for mere survival or with the hopes of living a better life far beyond what they can ever comprehend? Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Hazink on August 05, 2025, 09:20:41 AM Everyone has dreams, both the rich and the poor, but the dreams of the people who have a good startup background are easily achieved based on the opportunities that they have, more than someone who is just starting up from scratch. Even some people who grew up in wealthy backgrounds are also those among them who are very reluctant and don’t just care about anything aside from remaining at the same level that they are; nothing concerns them, and they don’t strive for a much better life.
The poor, as you classify them, also have very big dreams, even above those who are already higher than them, not because they have been there before but because that’s what they desire, and they work very hard in achieving that. Some inspiration comes from their life experiences, which they will not want their next generation to pass through, whatever they themselves went through, and as such, will want to also make a soft landing for their future generation. While those people that have been in that situation and don't desire to have a better living because the condition that they are in now are convenient for them already. So they stay there for as long as they can and there is no more reason for them to thrive and work harder because that's how simple their kind of living is. Both are true.Like this thread Be grateful for what you have now (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5552633.60), if the poor people grow up in a "kind" environment e.g. the parent raise them well, the teacher and their friends accept them, and not getting bullied or harassment, it's high likely they will stay poor because they no longer have motivation and always "be grateful" over their poverty. That's why sometime I don't really hate bullying, harassment, brought down etc because it could make people motivated to prove them wrong. Making generalized statements about rich people being this and poor people being that simply doesn't work for me. I know that most poor people are simply not educated enough to get rid of their poverty. Many poor people are hard working, but they are also not very ambitious and got used to the "get a job, live paycheck to paycheck" lifestyle. Many poor people are just lazy. Some rich people are entitled to a luxurious lifestyle, others aren't. What matters the most about being rich is achieving financial freedom and not having a boss. Using your wealth to get a hot girlfriend is also pretty important. ;D Having a luxurious lifestyle is a by-product of being rich, but it's not the most important thing in life. As opposed to someone who grew up rich but later on in life became poor, since he has experienced what it is to have a better life maybe he will be more motivated to get there. I believe that there is no fixed behavioral pattern for that; a poor person may take the experience of the poor background that they've had and turn it into motivation to never want to remain at that level, making them fight for more in life, while someone who was born into a rich background but is now poor may also not feel the motivation because depression has taken over that state of mind coming from them never having experienced that sort of level in life. It gets down to the individual level and how they have been affected and are reacting to the experience. It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. It is better for you not to have tested luxury than for you to be a wealthy person before and finally became poor. That could become one of the worst things that can ever happen to anyone. Wealthy is fun, enjoyable and comfortable especially when you are such a person that like taking control of everything around you.Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? It would be an unforgettable scenario for a rich man to later become a poor man. It is better for you not to have seen the light than for you to see the light and later end up in the darkness. This has been one of the reason why so many wealthy people are very curious working hard to make sure that they don't end up becoming poor. They would do anything possible to keep the income coming than make decision that will take them back to penury especially if it's someone that has tasted penury before. It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. There are so many factors to all of this, most people born rich already have that advantage to keeping them steps ahead because there's a good availability of resources to fund the dreams whatsoever it is. The most challenges they will face will be with management of which if they are able to conquer, they will mostly get a smooth ride to the achievement of that which they have made a goal so for them the resources isn't something they will have to go in search of first before they come back to their goals but this isn't an express assurance of success, they can fail too.Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? Or maybe because they are just not aware of the greater things in life since they have never experienced it ever? As opposed to someone who grew up rich but later on in life became poor, since he has experienced what it is to have a better life maybe he will be more motivated to get there. Are poor people just working for mere survival or with the hopes of living a better life far beyond what they can ever comprehend? For the ones born poor it's actually a whole lot for them because the scribble for limited resources alone is enough them to at some point loose fate in their dreams because in most cases they have to first go gather resources and then come back to chasing their dreams of which in some cases they may have spent too long a time to gather and you see that some of them start late when there rich peers are already advancing and achieving more, all of this put together makes some of those poor give up on the dream and settle for that which they can find around thereby making them look like they remaind poor there after. Let's say you already have a job, but your expenses are usually greater than your income, you don't have the means to save money, or your income is insufficient to meet basic needs. It's difficult to climb the financial ladder, so you remain in the same financial zone, or you might make some changes but they're not significant. The category of poverty itself varies from country to country, but at its core, it refers to those who cannot meet their basic needs. They have hopes and dreams, but often face numerous obstacles that are extremely challenging. We know that achieving the best possible position in life requires effort and strong determination. Some find it difficult to do so and give up, while others end up living a modest life but still find happiness, even if they don’t become wealthy. I agree with you, it takes a lot of forces to pull an object up, and if that object is falling, the law of gravity takes its full cause and it falls down with so much force and energy. This is almost the same thing in terms of climbing the ladder of success, and that is why it is always encouraged that people that have succeeded should always spread their tentacles in a bit to maintain their success. Most times I found out that, it is the children of successful people that makes the story of riches to rags come true, because they did not build this success on their own, so it is hard for them to see it that it was somebody's sweat that made them to be up there, so some of them just wake up one morning and squander what they've left for them. I've got a lot of poor friends but they're not poor in attitude, they're full of hope and one day that they'll get out of the bad situation that they are in. But the sad truth of many of them is they're living in survival, they have no hopes for better life in the future for as long as they have something to eat. They need a helping hand and some of them are grateful if they will be helped. While the others, they've got attitude issues and not grateful when people help them because what they have in their minds is they're already poor and yet these people trying to help them think that they're not helping willingly.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: mindrust on August 05, 2025, 07:01:59 PM Getting rich by luck usually don't end well for many people. I've seen people getting rich from lottery, living rich for a few years and they went back to where they were before and sometimes even worse because some of them loaded up on debt which is worse than losing what you already have as now they lost what they don't even have. People who get rich slow on the other hand they usually learn how to stay rich while getting rich so they know how to secure their position. I know not every lottery winner end up being a loser but you can't deny that what I am telling is a common occurrence. If a person somehow end up being rich because of his luck, he should immediately spend some time on educating himself.

Then why poor can't able to achieve even if they work more and be passionate about things that they do is because they are focusing and working on something that is not going to benefit them in any way, I am talking about employee and employer here. All our works and it's benefits goes to the employer and we just take and agreed to take a fixed cut from them. So it requires smart and where to focus our hard work to become richer but poor can't afford to think such when their survival itself becoming harder with inflation rising up. Life is full of hardships and challenges which everyone has to face. Uts true some people are born in poverty its not their fault to be born in poor family. But if they die poor its all their fault because they haven't struggle in life to change it and live a better life. There are some people who struggle and push themeselves against their comfort zone and work tirelessly they change their life to stay happy. They don't have resources but they do all that by themselves and their struggle become their fuel. There are some people who don't care to chnage their life because they lack potential. They have worst mindset just to work like animals and go home to sleep without thinking any idea to chnage their families lifestyle for which they always remain in poverty and die. These kind of peope should think about their children's future and struggle to make it better.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: WillyAp on August 05, 2025, 08:00:37 PM Then why poor can't able to achieve even if they work more and be passionate about things that they do is because they are focusing and working on something that is not going to benefit them in any way, Yes the wrong set of priorities, or not being able to set priorities. And the ones who go through more hardship are of course those who come from really poor backgrounds, because others who are rich are already rich so the hardship is not as difficult on their part if we compare it to those who come from really poor backgrounds. It is much dangerous to go from rich to poor as it is to go from poor to rich. The motivation would be easier psychologically for the the poor guys who's working on going up the ladder. I think he would be less distracted by former glories and pomp that could serve as a distraction for the formerly rich to stay patient to work up back to the ladder.Except in cases where someone who was rich before had to build many lives into privilege positions before accidentally fall down to poverty. There's a high tendency that those lives he had built would give him the wings to quickly fly high back up there. Yes, i think this thought exists in which people compromised with their circumstances. They don't even try to resolve the problems or enhance their resources. the main reason is only that they are never embarrassed by the facilities and luxuries a person has at the same time. This case is not adjusted in every circle because there are people who try to sort out their problems and want to become rich by seeing rich people but the way adopted in this regard are wrong and negative so they get in more trouble. there are examples where the people from poor families make their lives more comfortable and more facilitated by education. i think the matter is all about the thoughts the time is for those people who think big but in the other case the problem is even more serious because it is very difficult in fact impossible for the persons who cherished all the luxuries in life but while being poor compromised with the circumstances is a great problem because he knows the difference between each and every thing. He knows how things get easy when you are well off.Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? This is not true, perhaps only for the weakest people among us. Are poor people just working for mere survival or with the hopes of living a better life far beyond what they can ever comprehend? Wow! What a reflection! I think that those who grow up poor tend to have a very limited expose to luxurious living standards, so their dreams start out more pragmatic, such as paying basic bills, achieving stability and especially getting out of debt. If they have some motivation at all, its driven by immediate need, as everything else is stifled by the exhaustion of simply survive your life. On the other hand, those who grew up rich (you know this concept is very relative, right?) have very high standards of comfort and easy access to various things, so when they lose everything, they face a major shock of scarcity that will certainly generate an urge to try to recover what they lost. But... I don't doubt that there are those who, out of frustration and shame at the drop in social standards, take the opposite path: they spiral into discouragement and stagnation. Of course, these two aspects cant be generalized to everyone... there are many exceptions, but I believe this is the "standard." I'm still a poor person trying to change my life with Bitcoin. Are poor people just working for mere survival or with the hopes of living a better life far beyond what they can ever comprehend? In my country, a topic about heirs and pioneers is going viral. There's a young child (a content creator) who is actually an heir to wealthy parents, but claims to be a pioneer. Many people criticize him because his definition of a pioneer is having full financial support from his parents. He's had a content creative team since he was 5 years old. I'm someone who believes that a person's character isn't determined by wealth or poverty. Surviving with dignity and being a good person requires struggle and resilience. This resilience needs to be cultivated and practiced. People who live comfortably from childhood and whose parents never teach or train their children about the meaning of struggle (delayed gratification) will, when the wheel of life suddenly turns, inevitably stumble, topple, fall, and feel confused because they're unfamiliar with the world of life full of struggle and where every penny counts. Similarly, poor people who suddenly become rich will usually spend their money on consumption and indulge in things they haven't previously enjoyed. They tend to be stingy. In contrast, people with strong and positive characters think and act in poverty to survive and improve. Meanwhile, in wealth, they strive to be more beneficial to the people and the environment around them. There are a whole range of factors that caused poverty or allow someone to grow their wealth to a high level. Some of it comes down to the willpower and innovation of the individual - some have the energy to hustle relentlessly, try new things, taking multiple jobs or switching companies to move up the ladder. Others might be poor as a product of their environment, maybe they did not get good nutrition while they were in school (making it hard to concentrate), they might have had children early in life which can make it harder to accumulate wealth or they didn't have a strong family safety net to give them that initial strong start. There are so many reasons that it's usually hard to talk about it in general terms. However most people when they get on the right career trajectory, will grow their finances from strength to strength, so they may as well take the experiences out there and enjoy them - the key thing is not to be wasteful with money. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Bright0515 on August 06, 2025, 06:32:11 AM Nobody loves staying poor I even see some mad people doing business to make sure there is something for them, now imagine someone who grew up with a golden spoon but misused the opportunity maybe they can still make it but life will be very difficult for them more than those that were born poor because it's just as if you parked to a new place where you have to know everything about that place before starting to grow but the poor one's already know all the nooks and crannies in the jungle but when a poor man finally gets there they can even stay hungry for a whole day to avoid spending and they know how to manage wealth even without business education, there are a lot of lessons you learn from life in poverty, there is this special knowledge every poor man has, my friend used to say when you live too poor you start reasoning like an adult.
But like you mentioned luxurious life it is good to live a luxurious life dress the way you want to be addressed but the most important thing to note there is that luxuries are the same thing that can still bring you down so don't be addicted to luxury but have luxuries if you have the wealth and also observe yourself, your account and your business before acquiring luxuries for safety. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: kryptqnick on August 06, 2025, 03:11:36 PM The topic of motivation and ambition across different social classes is much deeper than that. After all, what is considered rich and what is considered poor is debatable and also varies greatly from one country to another. Moreover, many people are not very poor but are also not rich either, so it is hard to think in binary here. Of course, if someone needs to cover basic needs, one will be doing that to survive, but it doesn't mean that there won't be anything else to this person or their interests and aspirations. Likewise, for people accustomed to having everything they need, it may or may not be interesting to embark on new adventures, to grow as human beings and to contribute to important areas of life and prosperity of humanity.
I've never been rich-rich, but I have been at different levels of poor and at different levels of being quite well-off. The great advantage of the latter is that at least you don't need to worry about the basics, and that you have more growth opportunities. But, at least in my case, it also correlates with having time as the most valuable resource, and always such a limited one. I am not talking about starting some bakery, while that may also make a lot of money at the peak level, franchising and all that, it's rare. I am talking about a product for example, whatever the most simplistic thing you can think of is better, a bar of soap, a shirt, whatever.
While those are very hard to crack into, and would not make sense at all to start one right now unless you already have a ton of followers, that would still be better to scale than some gift shop or whatever. That way, if you have a good product, and I mean like really good, in fact if you can then the best product compare to competition, then you can definitely become super wealthy by selling it to everyone. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Mame89 on August 06, 2025, 04:22:42 PM Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? Or maybe because they are just not aware of the greater things in life since they have never experienced it ever? As opposed to someone who grew up rich but later on in life became poor, since he has experienced what it is to have a better life maybe he will be more motivated to get there. In reality, both, whether they're poor and want to become rich, or go from rich to poor to achieve their goals, what's really needed is mentality, because becoming rich or poor is primarily about mentality. A poor mentality isn't about how much money they have, but rather their mindset. If they have a poor mentality, they'll be lazy and easily discouraged, and they'll be poor forever. Even if rich people fall into poverty, if they have a poor mentality, they won't be able to get back up. Even when they become rich again, they'll fall back into poverty. But if they have a rich mentality, no matter how many times they fall into poverty, they'll bounce back. So, it all comes down to whether each individual has a poor mentality or a rich mentality. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Pearl_20 on August 06, 2025, 09:25:38 PM There are certain age and phase you get in life and even your goals, aspirations, and dreams begin to fade off. The drive and passion just goes away cos of hustling that's for those who are from poor background, and it can't be same for someone who has never known what it means to be hungry.
Is also very possible for someone who has tested money to fall back to square one. Life can happen to anybody and some rich people can also misuse their opportunities cos of the mindset that the money is always there. A rich man who suddenly goes bankrupt might not even survive it, most of them just gives up on life completely. Some of the poor people aren't comfortable with how they live cos if opportunities comes their way, they will scale through. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: goldkingcoiner on August 06, 2025, 09:34:45 PM I remember a post here before saying that it was better to just not aim for experiencing luxurious things because you will get used to it and it will be difficult when you go back to not being able to afford them. I think both the mindset and the financial troubles are holding poor people back from having extra money to save and invest. And since they are working jobs which do not pay very well and robs them of their time and energy, they also do not have the opportunity to build a fundament on which they can continue building wealth. Being rich is far easier by comparison since you have time and extra money with which you can make more money. So no, poor people are not poor because of being complacent (which they are not). Life is not easy. But sometimes people get lucky and it becomes easier. It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. Actually it would be just that depending into someones persepective when it comes to life on which each person will be that different when it comes to status or condition on what kind of family they've been raised whether its poor or rich on which it would be something that influences their own views and perspective in life. If you've been that living to a poor family then you are someone who do easily adjust into whatever situations that you are facing even you do have become rich and goes back on being poor again then it would be just that fine, most could be able to survive but there are those who cant be able to accept on what happened into their life and they cant be able to accept it out. There are those rich people who do become poor and never ever having that recovery afterwards. Some might that eager on maknig up some recovery but most of the time these people do just simply give up and just doing nothing. This is why i would be saying that it all depends on a certain person into this aspect because our mind or brain does have that different way of thinking. It doesnt matter whether you are rich or not. Thinking or aiming for a better life is always been that a normal approach or lets say that we are all wanting to become rich. Come to think that even into those rich fellas out there do still have those aims that they should be that becoming that more richer and thats how human being works because money is everything and thats what we do have in mind. To those who are just that contented into their poor lives then its up into them and contentment is something that varies on each person. It’s all about your goal as a person and I don’t want to generalize the issue of the poor always thinking slow because that’s false, not all poor people want to remain in that state I think that’s the reason they work so hard but, forgetting to work smart. A wealthy man can hardly turn poor except they no longer work and it’s impossible for such to happen seeing how everyone has their different dream and goal, responsibility should always come with planning I think most people lack how to plan maybe that’s the reason most poor people remain poor.

It is not always that the poor person who goes and asks is an evil person, and cuts it chicken to say of the rich person who says no, that he is cruel. Fears, traumas and the unseen reasons are behind each decision. Not everyone can be expected to follow expectations especially when they have had varying experiences. Maybe, it is not the case that we need to judge, but to learn how not to fall in automatic conclusions. Either, we all are learning to get to know life in terms of ups and downs that cannot be planned always. Life is a cycle. It has been said that life is not linear. You will experience the good things and the bad things. Sometimes repeatedly. Even the rich ones, even if they may not struggle financially, still have other things to worry about. Even when you reach your dreams, there will still be challenges to face. Poor people work to feed themselves first. Poor people struggle to feed their families, and when they can cover their personal expenses of food and clothing, they start working, hoping for a better life. At first, they work to meet their needs and move on to a better life to live a little better. Then some more differences can be revealed. For example, poor people always save some money after meeting their needs, which they can do better later. However, not all kinds of people are one. There are many poor people who bring in the day and finish all the money, do not save any money. Even though they express happiness in this case, they may face many problems in the future. Moreover, they should save some money out of their families and some money. Because their children need to be worried about the future and a man will not always work. At one point it will grow old and retire from close. That is why you have to retire yourself to any situation and think about the future. So that he can live well later. Although doing this is very difficult for a poor man. A poor person can turn their lives around with the right mindset and surrounding themselves with the right people. Because there are poor people who have gone from being poor to wealth, it shows that it is possible and can be done. The point is very clear! As pointed by Aphakilo say mindset!!! This (mindset) could be the key differences between the rich and the poor, the poor and the poor, Likewise the rich and the rich. Some rich becomes poor at times based on their mind approaches to their assets or belongings. Some are rich (living beyond just survival) based on some forms of advantages which is supposed to be a bedrock to generational wealth even But should this opportunity (ies) stop so there riches! Some uncertainty (uncontrollable event) has made somany rich people poor and poor people poorer!! This does not in any way undermine the key differences the mindset which has been proven since human existence. Changes can happen! Some poor remains poor based on mindset. Only for little sustainables to show up they now want to be like you know!! However some poor will not forget to project for adequate survival ventures by savings or other methods. This makes some rich people poor and some poor people rich as has always been revealed by time/the nearest future. The mindset affects absolutely at least an excellent % of every day response to life to talk of the future Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: tabas on August 07, 2025, 08:34:20 AM Poor people who don't have any motivation to get out of their situation will just remain there for as long as they can. But those who aspire to get out of it and live a better life, they're for sure going to have a better life through their hard work and determination. While those people that have been in that situation and don't desire to have a better living because the condition that they are in now are convenient for them already. So they stay there for as long as they can and there is no more reason for them to thrive and work harder because that's how simple their kind of living is. While the others will just reason out that there's a different meaning of being rich and poor in heart. Exactly, there are different type of people in our society some of them try to change their life and som of them like to live where they were. These kind of peope should think about their children's future and struggle to make it better.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: justdimin on August 07, 2025, 09:48:31 AM There are a whole range of factors that caused poverty or allow someone to grow their wealth to a high level. Finding the right career path is the hardest one. Plenty of people end up not finding the thing they want, so even at later age they are still either looking for a new one, or do not grow to a high level. However most people when they get on the right career trajectory, will grow their finances from strength to strength, so they may as well take the experiences out there and enjoy them - the key thing is not to be wasteful with money. I have seen a lot of people who have reached 30+ years old and still at the starting level and they are doing a good job because they love it at first, and even saw one guy who was 42 years old, and at the starter position, no idea how he convinced the company to hire him to a 22-23 year olds job, but he did. It's all about finding the right job for you and if you can do that then you can find it at age 22 and then you can work for 50 years and be the CEO, or at least reach to a very high level and earn a lot more. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: EluguHcman on August 07, 2025, 10:26:29 AM If not by inheritance or family backgrounds, everyone are born poor and are expected to work towards getting out of it if you must.
Those who are born rich does not really understand it is a privilege. No one is either contented of being poor neither the ones we sees. The nature of lively goal to everyone is aimed to acquiring growths which changes their personalities socially and financially towards independence and some potential significance in the society. But when we have been thriving and it is not working out, then is we're we have to settle for the less and just think the best of life is to stay alive and not really those luxurious life's. Meanwhile... It is everyone ones dream but because the poor or as the less privileges maybe classified, they have no option than feel relax like no worries even in the hard times. So once you have got privilege/lucky to escape the poverty hood and got experience of the exotic life, you will really feel that different that "toasting to good life" is not just about staying alive but the privilege to get what you want if not all but to am average. These set of rich people are ones who fear more to die because the only lessons life teaches them is the sound warning that if you go broke, you are going backwards and you know what it is? (Becoming the less privilege) again whom were seen as minorities when you want to classify the racism practices between the rich and the poor. The first route does not require much efforts, just live your life, don't stress yourself and enjoy your money on frivolities and you will be on free ride to rags. On the other hand, moving from rag to riches requires a lot of planning, discipline, brain power and courage to even start. Not many people are willing to pay the price involved.

There are two types of poor people in my own opinion, poor people with civilization and poor people without civilization. The poor people with civilization doesn't only think about feeding themselves and their family, they think beyond their daily meals and they thrive for a better future, these are the ones that try every means possible to break the yoke of poverty because they have seen that life goes beyond the struggle to feed. Because they have seen civilization around them they struggle to blend in and hope for a better future. While the poor people without civilization only care about their daily survival or meals, these people are influenced by their surroundings and they feel like life is just about getting what to eat at the moment. And they have become more prone to being poor because they haven't experienced civilization and they are not aware of the other side of life. Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? I always say this. There is a difference in that the comfort and wealth earned by one person are different from those who get it without effort. Those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth very often grow up to be dependent people, and if the situation touches upon the fact that they are deprived of all comforts, they quickly give up, unable to independently recreate their prosperous life. Those who have created their own business know how to get up and fall every time, and each fall for them works as motivation for action, for what is worth strengthening, and not to lose heart. All people, poor and rich, have their ambitions and their own level of happiness; sometimes, someone is satisfied with what seems like poverty to another.

It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. Ambition and self-discipline are the key differences in this regard. But when it comes to dreams, I think the poor and the rich remain largely the same. They dream of things that are better and better than what they currently have. A poor person who goes from homeless to homeless dreams of owning one. A rich person who goes from owning one large company to owning more large companies. And so on and so forth. The only difference is ambition and self-discipline. Rich people tend to be more self-disciplined and have unwavering ambition. They have clear goals and plans. Poor people, on the other hand, often lack self-discipline, and their ambitions are sometimes not as strong as those of the rich. Poor people also have goals they want to achieve, such as realizing their dreams. But the poor often don't develop a clear plan, which makes their dreams difficult to realize. But there are some people who come from poverty but succeed in becoming rich. They usually already possess the characteristics of the rich, such as strong ambition, consistent self-discipline, and dreams with a clear plan. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: reagansimms on August 07, 2025, 03:18:03 PM Basically, living in poverty is not the dream of every individual, but there are several factors such as limited economic resources and bad luck in life that make them have to enjoy their status even though they have difficulty in fulfilling their needs, including the desire to have luxury goods. Poor people do not lack the desire to rise and escape poverty, they continue to work and try to improve their standard of living, but luck is always beyond individual control. They continue to strive to pursue their dreams even though the success rate is very small, even so, they will continue to strive so that their descendants do not experience social and economic inequality like them.

Nobody, whether the rich or the poor, wants to remain where they are, at a spot without adding money to their bank account monthly or weekly, depending on their income resources.
We all know that someone busy deducting money from the one they have, their finances are no longer the same(it has reduced). Because deducting money without adding it back doesn't make someone's account statements read the same in dollars. Further deductions of money can make them poor, further addition of money can keep them rich. The same attitude goes for the poor. No money saved(make an investment or start up a business) rather than spending all the time, which will keep them poor. It's true that the poor have not experienced the lives of the rich but by nature and their dreams, they aspire to live their lives. However, there are some poor people who are content with their lives and feel satisfied despite their poverty, and do not seek to improve their lives. Others are lazy, lack high ambitions and are content with their poor reality. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Lanatsa on August 07, 2025, 07:46:59 PM I remember a post here before saying that it was better to just not aim for experiencing luxurious things because you will get used to it and it will be difficult when you go back to not being able to afford them. But there are some people who come from poverty but succeed in becoming rich. They usually already possess the characteristics of the rich, such as strong ambition, consistent self-discipline, and dreams with a clear plan. For those who had been thinking about their future then we would be that doing all the possible ways and methods on which we can be able to do as long it would be giving out that kind of opportunity for their lives to be changed on which of course its not something that you wouldnt be able to see on each one of those poor people but majority of us would be thriving to have that much more better live and thats why we would be that targeting out to achieve into those goals. Actually it would be just that depending into someones approach and views in life because there are ones who are sensible enough and there are ones who are just that making themselves that being blind just because they do limit themselves on trying to deal up with something because neither they are that lazy or just that not wanting or liking to do something. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: coolcoinz on August 07, 2025, 07:56:36 PM The reason why rich stay rich and poor remain poor is that it takes literally 0 effort and knowledge to make money from money.
I'll give you a nice example. Imagine a guy who inherits wealth at young age, for instance gets a large residential building from his grandparents. He already has tenants who used to pay his grandparents and now they're going to pay him. Since he's getting free money every month, he can simply tell a bank manager to do something with it, like invest it into ETFs for him, or just choose a good savings account. Let's say he's getting $10k a month from the tenants, in a year he's going to have 120k saved up. His wealth manager is going to easily get him a safe 10% a year, so he's going to get another $12k interest. He doesn't have to do anything, just have fun, travel the world... On the other hand a poor person will always struggle. You get a parking ticket but have no money to pay it? You have to take a loan. Your kid gets sick? Take a loan! Eventually you end up in a debt spiral you can't get out of. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: peter0425 on August 07, 2025, 09:05:43 PM Indeed, you quickly get used to good things, and it is almost impossible to break the habit. I always say this. There is a difference in that the comfort and wealth earned by one person are different from those who get it without effort. Yes it is even harder when you have been stuck in the same situation for a very long time. For example if you were born already rich and you grew up rich then you suddenly got poor, I think that person would have a very difficult time trying to adjust the new life he has.Quote Those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouth very often grow up to be dependent people, and if the situation touches upon the fact that they are deprived of all comforts, they quickly give up, unable to independently recreate their prosperous life. Those who have created their own business know how to get up and fall every time, and each fall for them works as motivation for action, for what is worth strengthening, and not to lose heart. All people, poor and rich, have their ambitions and their own level of happiness; sometimes, someone is satisfied with what seems like poverty to another. It really is all about the perspective. Because no matter how we don't like certain things on our life, we must remember that we are still more fortunate and luckier than other people.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: _BlackStar on August 07, 2025, 10:03:36 PM -snip- Yeah, those were the words of Bill Gates. I almost quote that with Warren Buffett but it's a different word of his. The people who are content with their situations and lives are really there. And it doesn't need for them to do such efforts just to stay with that kind of living. So they stay poor, live poor and but being there is what makes them happy. Whilst the others, they're living with a different setting and motivation are there because they see the reality of life. They don't want to stay in the same place and situation forever and so, they do everything they can in their capacity and pursues the dreams that they have.Effort, hard work and a drive to improve can be crucial factors in a person's economic transformation. This is the beginning of many success stories - but we can all admit that not everyone in this world becomes rich, no matter how hard they try. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Wakate on August 07, 2025, 10:07:18 PM It is easier to move from riches to rag than it is to move from rag to riches. You are making a sense here because people that are at the top can easily fall while it would be quite hard for someone at the bottom to come to the top. Misery of life is unpredictable and that is why we have been seeing millionaires working extra hard so that they can keep making money by all means without looking back. Billionaires like Elon Musk keep creating different businesses that will keep bringing money to him and in the next 10 years, Elon might become rich in trillions of dollars. This is a man that have built different business portfolio into the future so his next 10 generations would not suffer again. Every living being (especially humans) wants a better life for themselves and hopes for it, dreams of it... But not everyone has the same opportunities, and we are not all in the same circumstances. One of the big problems is that by "being poor" we mean having no money, like that is the only measure of wealth. But the fact is that some people don't have money but have a big heart and a good soul... a nice family and just enough bread on the table. It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. I remember a thread about rolex watches or other things that are essentially luxury, for rich people who already have luxury properties such as a rolex watch that they are used to wearing or with other properties, this becomes a habit that will be difficult to change, from rich to poor, a rich person is used to wealth, for example a rolex watch and when he experiences total bankruptcy, this makes his lifestyle change drastically, sometimes because he is comfortable with this luxury watch, he can be reluctant to use a watch that is below the level he usually uses when his economic and financial situation is very stable. I think something like this is true, rich people who fall into poverty have to adapt not easily, they need time, maybe quite a long time when they experience bankruptcy, but with poor people who are rich, I think they will easily adapt even if they fall into poverty again. Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? Or maybe because they are just not aware of the greater things in life since they have never experienced it ever? Look at all those people that won the lottery in the past. They were very poor, won millions of dollars and a few years later they were broke again. How did it happen? Excessive spending. Its a psychological thing where what you didn't have as a child you crave as an adult. So they were poor all their lives and when they got money they just spend it all like crazy instead of investing. This happened to many people in Bitcoin also. Many had tons of paper profits, never realized the profits, or they did but they spend it on Lambos instead of paying their capital gain taxes and they are back where they were at the beginning. I firmly believe this because I see so much real-life evidence that it all depends on our desire and the small changes we make every day that can have a big impact in the future. That's not entirely true, not every rich person who goes bankrupt can easily rebuild their career. Many rich people go bankrupt, become homeless and never get back to their prime. Whether they can return to the top or not will depend on the cause, the reason they went bankrupt as well as their will. By the way, if you go bankrupt and become poor, don't expect rich friends to come to your aid, that only happens in movies and reality is much harsher. In theory yes, but in reality, do you think rich people would be willing to hang out with poor people or would they try to help others become rich like them? Even relatives or friends do not want to help you, let alone when you are a stranger, but want to make friends and help from rich strangers. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: dezoel on August 08, 2025, 08:58:04 AM There are two types of poor people in my own opinion, poor people with civilization and poor people without civilization. I would say that's not "civilization" you are talking about, could be wrong word for it. That is just generational thinking. Why have hundreds of millions of dollars, even billions, just for yourself? After a certain point, what can you buy that someone poorer than you can't? Like the whole idea of having 1 billion versus having 2 billion, they both live the same life, and 2 billion can't do anything that 1 billion can't do. Whereas, if I made twice as much, suddenly I can live a much better life.It means, if you try to live, have no debt, and save aside, then that is generational thinking, because you are not thinking about you, you are thinking about the child you have, or the charity you want to donate maybe (like Warren Buffet). On the other hand, many of those who are rich get a positive environment from birth. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: danherbias07 on August 08, 2025, 01:36:56 PM I believe a higher percentage of poor people are aiming to have a better life. It's just that they are not being given a chance. Employment is low, and the monthly wage is very low. It's almost working just to survive. If you aim higher as a poor you will need a really good educational background. How can you have it if your parents cannot even afford it? And so the cycle continues. It's not because they got used to being poor, so they have no high hopes to feel how to be rich. It's just that we have different back stories.
I lived as a poor and sometimes we didn't even have anything to put in the rice, so I just put soy sauce to taste. I aimed higher in life, although I didn't finish college, and now I have my own home and savings. Opportunities came, I grabbed them, took the risk, and made an effort to work it out. Sometimes we really have to take that leap, even if it's scary. I am not rich, but I am satisfied. I think that's the important thing in life, satisfaction. There has to be a difference but still it doesn't stop us from aspiring to be greater than we thought we can be. Dreams shouldn't have limitations but our environment most times determine how our dreams are going to belike. For someone from an underdeveloped country, aspiring to become something that's greater than the country seems impossible and most times the dream will be killed before it's actualised, only few people are able to achieve success in this conditions. The rich has money to fund their ambition while the poor gets to hope on God or fate to determine if they're going to achieve their dreams or not. Most of the poor individuals are highly determined in the sense that they would without capital, networks, and opportunities would not achieve much. Economics is a significant factor that may help to decide which party is faster and which one has to remain at the same location. We should understand that success may be not only achieved as the result of hard work, but of open opportunities. We can reduce this difference by increasing the access to education, capital and information so that people that have the will are no longer restrained by economic shortcomings. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Darker45 on August 10, 2025, 12:25:38 AM I think those who are born poor and are growing up poor have relatively small ambitions. It's probably because they're aware of their place under the sun, and aiming for the stars is probably perceived as too much or unreasonable and, therefore, pointless.
Those who have been there but have fallen for one reason or another have higher goals because they've been there and, therefore, they're aware and confident that such goals are within reach. However, in the end, it's still about individual character. It's mainly the reason why a poor boy becomes a rich, powerful, and respected man despite the odds. In the same manner that it's also mainly the reason why a rich, powerful, and respected man falls down. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: dezoel on August 10, 2025, 03:14:51 PM I believe that there is no fixed behavioral pattern for that; a poor person may take the experience of the poor background that they've had and turn it into motivation to never want to remain at that level, making them fight for more in life, while someone who was born into a rich background but is now poor may also not feel the motivation because depression has taken over that state of mind coming from them never having experienced that sort of level in life. The second thing that you said there can also be applied on the first one. I know this is crazy but there are also rich people that wants to experience a simpler life.It gets down to the individual level and how they have been affected and are reacting to the experience. @OP, I think more people are more prone to staying poor because they lack on resources which also cause them to be less motivated but they are surely aware of the greater things in life. They know that the rich people exist and mostly has those greater things. The most easy thing that they can do is to get jealous of it, get annoyed, and say that life was so unfair. Rich are also aware of the worst things in life. They are aware that being poor is a thing, so this also makes them to try hard to not fall on that category. Aside from certain unchangeable factors, whether a person's desires are realized generally depends on their efforts. No one wants poverty and will do everything in their power to prevent it. For the wealthy to avoid becoming poor, their actions must be well-planned. While market expectations may not always materialize, it's essential to plan ahead for how to respond to adverse circumstances. Maintaining wealth isn't easy, nor is turning poverty into prosperity, but striving and progressing toward achieving goals always contribute to a person's well-being. For the wealthy to avoid becoming poor, their actions must be well-planned. This is true you can't possibly think about moving out of poverty when you're not making any effort no, it never works like that. alot of people dream dreams but couldn't make effort not to think of chasing their dreams, majority of the wealthy people we see today was once poor but thier determination/effort towards chasing their dreams made them to be where they are today that is to show that life isn't all about dreaming dreams, after dreaming we should be attempting to chase our dreams not just after dreaming and you just fold your hands and be expecting the dream to come to fulfillment when you don't even make any effort. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: o48o on August 10, 2025, 08:22:40 PM I remember a post here before saying that it was better to just not aim for experiencing luxurious things because you will get used to it and it will be difficult when you go back to not being able to afford them. It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. Sounds like something Salvador Dali said. He said to his student who said that he is prepared to eat less to focus in his art. Dali said that he should prepare by eating caviar. But Dali was a surrealist, and this sounds more like manifestation to me, which is basically bs.Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? Or maybe because they are just not aware of the greater things in life since they have never experienced it ever? As opposed to someone who grew up rich but later on in life became poor, since he has experienced what it is to have a better life maybe he will be more motivated to get there. Are poor people just working for mere survival or with the hopes of living a better life far beyond what they can ever comprehend? In reality, if you don't have rich friend circle or rich family, you need to make a budget and sometimes tighten your belt (which can mean different things to different people). But i assure you that if you get used to large budget, that doesn't mean you should live like that when you don't have enough money to sustain it. I know that several people even sell their stocks / cryptos when they are down, because they are used to expensive lifestyle. Even though that means they can't sustain it very long. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: LogitechMouse on August 10, 2025, 09:20:20 PM --- Lack of opportunities. That's one reason why the poor remains poor, but nowadays, there are many ways for these poor people to grab those opportunities. I don't think that they're just complacent because there's nothing to be complacent for at first place. Also, poor people remain poor because of lack of knowledge on how to have a better life, and this is the reason why I always wanted our government to have at least a course or at least subject with regards to financial literacy in school so that students whether they're poor or rich will know how to handle their finances because let's face it. Poor money handling is also one reason why they remain poor. There might be poor people who're just working just to survive, but there are some poor people who still have a dream of having a better life that's why they're doing everything that they can just to achieve those dreams. Usually those who are rich have high standards of style, and when they fall into poverty they are not used to this situation so there are negative cases due to depression, but with those who are poor certainly have the desire to be rich, it's just that not everyone does it with action sometimes they only dream briefly and have resigned themselves to their situation so they just live their daily lives with what is available. But certainly no one wants to survive in poverty because this is not the purpose of life.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: JiiBs on August 12, 2025, 11:20:15 PM I remember a post here before saying that it was better to just not aim for experiencing luxurious things because you will get used to it and it will be difficult when you go back to not being able to afford them. I think that’s the most difficult place in life one might find themselves, come from a place of wealth and luxury to a place of nothing, not having what to offer others and worst still, yourself. It’s always a difficult adjustment to make but once you’re there, it’s never up to you no more.It made me think of whether there is a difference between people who grew up poor and people who grew up rich when it comes to their dreams and aspirations and goals. I think there is a huge difference between these category of persons. It tells on how they invest and live their lives. While the poor might find it too risky to invest what they’ve got because they are scared of losses, the rich don’t because, there is always more where that came from and they understand that, only through risk taking in certain types of investment can they build wealth.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: l3pox on August 13, 2025, 04:43:45 PM The reason why rich stay rich and poor remain poor is that it takes literally 0 effort and knowledge to make money from money. Eventually you end up in a debt spiral you can't get out of. my granddad used to say "to make it with money is easy, I want to see you making it without money" I agree with most of what you posted so this is the reason one should always study and invest, my granddad started by working for someone until he could build his own business, it took years and he donated all his life only to work, I don't know if he was happy tbh, but he definitely changed the future of his family. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: rachael9385 on August 13, 2025, 06:06:47 PM Riches to rags has to be the worst experience that anyone can ever go through in life. It's better to start poor and end up rich than to be rich and later become poor. This has a way of breaking down your self esteem and your mental state. People who fall from riches to having nothing are those type of people that have no discipline and keep spending without thinking of saving or making an investment

Poor people simply don't have too big dream for the most part because they know those are out of reach but once they know how to be successful they'd aim for greater thing much like rich people. Are poor people more prone to staying poor because they have become complacent? It's just difference in the upbringing, once yo learned there are greater things out there you will yearn for it. Although unfortunately most of poor people just never get better financially because many things, some of the poor people that can leave their poverty sometime become even richer than the middle class or higher middle class. They know both hardwork and to work smart. Exactly, if your mindset is that you will become poor in your lifetime than you will not get out of it. From my experience and what my mentors told you, it should really start inside of you. That you should think that you are not poor and that you could unlock everything that you desire. You just have to think of it, I know that it sounds weird and in paper it's hard to do. But come to think of it, if you shift your mindset and act that you have a lot of money in your bank account, then a lot of circumstance will transpire around you in the universe to make your desires come true.Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Unknown Op on August 16, 2025, 11:38:40 PM Poor people who don't have any motivation to get out of their situation will just remain there for as long as they can. To be fair, when you are at the very bottom, the point shouldn't be to get rich, the point should be reaching a very bare life. What I mean is that, if you are homeless, have no money, no anything. You can still apply for a dishwasher type of job, back in the kitchen, throwing out trash, cleaning the glass, etc etc.So very difficult for those poor people, they really need the help of someone or the government itself to get out of their predicament and be self-sufficient at least. And to the poor, I can't imagine their situation, they might have given up already in their lives that they will remain poor. But, most homeless people are not homeless because they just simply failed to find a job, they are jobless because of medical issues, or psychological issues. Like for example, there are so many veterans in USA that become homeless, you think they are incapable? These guys run whole platoons, but because of what they saw in the war, and PTSD, they became incapable of working, due to trauma. And not like VA helps them out, the suicide rate among veterans is sky high, more than any other professions retirees. So believe me, it's not hard work versus lazy in most cases. What makes the rich to be different from the poor is opportunity and smart work. If a poor man can get such an opportunity added to the sauce of hard work, he will get there and start having financial stability. The rich keeps getting richer why the poor are getting poorer because there is no opportunity that uplift them out of their present situations. In the present digital era, there's an open opportunity for the poor to be rich, and the rich to remain rich. Nobody that wants to remain stagnant in a place thinking that they are okay with the amount of money they have made, no need for them to work again or invest again The rich will continue employing people to work for them, making money from them while paying workers peanut that will not take care of their needs. There is a big gate that separate the poor from the rich but many are still skeptical about that. Title: Re: Rags to riches vs Riches to rags Post by: Xcode7 on August 21, 2025, 07:04:13 AM The environment is indeed a significant influence on why poor people often remain poor. Furthermore poor people often remain poor not because they are lazy, but because they simply don't have the same opportunities as others. This is also due to the high cost of education. When these opportunities are not met, they become preoccupied with simply surviving instead of seeking opportunities. The lack of a government commitment to addressing poverty makes it difficult for them to escape poverty. On the one hand, that's true, but it's also not entirely to blame. If we have a strong desire, we don't expect anything from the government or the environment. Instead, we find a way to rise, even if it's much more difficult.People who are wealthy by birth often face challenges when they become poor, especially if their environment is unsupportive and they have never experienced the struggles of the lower classes. This contrasts with the wealthy who started from the bottom but when they become poor again they are more likely to recover easily and be re-motivated to become rich. People who are rich from birth may struggle, but those who are rich through their own hard work won't struggle even if they return to poverty. That's a fact, but there are exceptions for those with education. I believe that with education, we can achieve anything as long as we have the desire, regardless of the local environment.
