Do you have any proof for that? I find that figure quite unbelievable. Because in 2013, only 2-4% of the Bitcoin users were female. Among the Bitcoin traders, the percentage was way lower. Nothing has changed since then, and a jump of 4x is difficult to fathom.  ;D

I'm pleasantly surprised by the (high) number of female names on the bank accounts that I sell bitcoin to on LocalBitcoins. I would say it's about 10% as well, but that's with only a sample of about 50.

The proportion of females among the Bitcoiners is increasing very steeply. In 2012, just around some 1% of all the users were female. But right now, the proportion is more than 10%. (My data comes from the Mt Gox robbery report. 12% of the users who lost their coins there were female).

The vast majority of users of bitcoin are male. This is partly because most users are very technically inclined and stereotypically this is a male interest.

There was even a thread on this forum that lists the red flags of a potential scammer and one of them is that someone uses a name that is clearly female.

Right now, I have heard that the females constitute a significant part of the Bitcoiners in China and Hong Kong. There they constitute some one-fifth to one-third of all Bitcoiners. But the problem is that most of them have no ideological reason to use Bitcoin. They are just seeing Bitcoin as another medium of investment.  >:(

It's a long thread with more than one person asserting that women who use bitcoin are "ugly nerds" or similar, it's not weird that an attractive woman who uses it may say "Hey, I exist and I use bitcoin" without her very existence to be an elaborate scam to get a few extra lines of snark out of you guys.
I'm a reasonably attractive woman too, just so you know. It's not for your benefit and it doesn't magically stop me from using cryptocurrencies.

I think the scammer post regarding people claiming to be girls was related to doing business with someone. As a possible scam would be to "flirt" with someone prior to doing business in order to gain their trust.

After years of being a monetary activist, I can safely assure you all that women just don't and aren't really going to understand bitcoin, as they lack an understanding of money in general.

Money is a tool of men to deal and trade with one another. Women, frankly, never had any need for money. They have their own currency, and its accepted EVERYWHERE. They can use it to get whatever they want and need.

I guess it depends if they constantly talk about Bitcoin, that's the problem. If you only talk about a single thing, then it will become awkward. But if you talk about causally, then there shouldn't be an issue. Just be sure to change topics in case the other party seems bored with it.

My gf got explanation served several times what BTC is and she thinks it's a good technology, but somehow she doesen't trust BTC. I traded in past with BTC, invested and gambled also, but she did non of those and i think that she doesen't plan to.

I am telling you, if we can get Nordstroms and Bloomingdales to accept BTC, we would be at a whole another level of mass adoption.  That would make so many women interested in using BTC.

Actually this part is true. A crash like that could possibly fork over 30% of existing BTC to said companies, unless male users keep their wallets from their wives...

This does bring up an interesting problem, however. What happens when franchises on that same scale start accepting BTC? Will the value increase rapidly, as the supply becomes a bit scarcer and it sells for more, as stores want the highest price they can get to pay their employees, or will it drop substantially like quoted user says?

That's an easy question to answer: There are as many girls using BTC as there are female server administrators as BTC and server administration is seen equally complicated to the main street girl (and guy).

It is a shame that we have so many market places and casinos and stuff but no website that helps making BTC accessible to the mainstream folks that close their ears when they hear "Altcoin" and "Cryptocoin" and "Hashrate" and "Blockchain" and all that things.

What this world needs, is a user oriented website that makes getting and spending BTCs as easy as 1,2,3.

I don't know if it's just random or what but for some reason I've noticed a lot more women seem to be interested in altcoins. Still very few compared to males of course, but seemingly a higher percentage. No idea if that's accurate or not but it has just been my observation.

I have female friends who use and trade BTC I personally dont get the old stigma that IT or technical skills in regards to new techonology is almost completely male, thats a very old view in my eyes.

I'm trying to get as many women as possible interested in crypto-currency. Bitcoin mostly but I don't believe bitcoin can survive long term without at least one altcoin that breaks away from the pack as well.

I would argue that since most women are not interested in tech related fields as men are that they would generally not be inclined to do the proper amount of research necessary to find the pros of using bitcoin.

You want the honest truth, and this comes from women I know -

They often don't like the way they are treated in tech forums so when they do use tech, they often stay away from places such as this *or* hide the fact that they are women.

It's not that they don't use bitcoin, it's just that many of them don't feel comfortable in the mainstream places where it is discussed.

Yes, each person is different, but in general more men then women use bitcoin. There is even a post in the lending subforum that says if someone is outright claiming to be a women that they are likely trying to scam you.

Arguably not even Facebook has a monopoly on social media - there's VK (Russian) and Renren (Chinese) and both of these are blatant ripoffs / reskins of Facebook, right down to the colouring (at least Litecoin went with different colours) and they're worth huge money.  Then, as you know, Facebook came after Myspace and Facebook was arguably (technically) a fork of ConnectU (Harvard Connection).

No single coin will ever be independent - the daytraders at least want multiple coins so they can make profit off volatility between the coins.  It's like suggesting there should only be one $Fiat currency but in reality that's never been the case in human history.  People tend to empower currencies of their choice and there's always been willingness for interchangeability.  As absurd as it may be, you can get exchange US dollars for currency from North Korea, Cuba and Papua New Guinea and vice versa without much issue.

They use it to receive and send international payments.
