Title: Everyone of my friends says the same: "How do I get Bitcoins?"
Post by: pikabit on July 24, 2014, 05:50:11 PM
Everyone of them say "why do I want to work for Bitcoins? I would rather get paid in dollars" or they don't care to buy Bitcoins.
Faucets are a joke.

Here is my suggestion for anyone that wants free bitcoins:

Go out to a street corner and beg for money. Then use the money you receive to buy bitcoins.

That's how you get bitcoins for free. I guarantee that you will get more bitcoins that way than you will get from begging online or by visiting faucets.

You have no idea how true this statement is. Do this, not faucets. It will be far more effective.

I used to use faucets. They're not good at all. Or you can work for your coins, that works too. I'm sure they all have a computer  ;)

Either sell something or provide a service and request payment in Bitcoin, or sign up at an exchange and buy some. Faucets charge advertisers more per view than they pay you, so they'll never give out more than a few fractions of a cent. Asking for ways to get free bitcoin is the same as asking for ways to get free dollars; it's still money, and you still have to work for it in some way.

It's the same as saying how do I get Euros or Pesos.  They're not going to magically fall into your lap.

If you're in the US just buy some at Coinbase.  If outside the US it's even easier on the exchanges.

The only way acquiring Bitcoin might be difficult is if you live in a 3rd world country where the exchange rate to USD/Euro is horrible - then I do online work for BTC.

The question to them should be 'Why do you want bitcoins?"

Well, it's true. Unless you just want to check out how Bitcoin works, then faucets are a complete waste of time. Faucets were created for one reason -- to disseminate Bitcoin during its early days to help lead to greater adoption of it. Faucets weren't designed to be a source of additional income. Some people would argue that a few faucets still give out a somewhat decent amount of Bitcoins, but they can never dispute the fact that they could be earning more from doing legitimate online work. Essentially, if you want Bitcoins, then faucets are not the way to go. If you want easy satoshis, then faucets would prolly be your meal ticket.

Having said all that, consider that Bitcoins are viewed by many as an investment. Many people hoard Bitcoins hoping that they could cash out when it reaches its peak value and get rich without doing anything. Delusions of "1 million dollars per Bitcoin to the moon in 1 year" abound, and speculation is the fertilizer that keeps Bitcoin growing. So why should they work for Bitcoins? They shouldn't -- at least, not for their day jobs. It's quite volatile and using them for one's daily life involves a lot of transaction and exchange fees. However, earning a Bitcoin or two is a really good investment for the future. Bubble or not, it's still better than investing in Beanie Babies and all that collectible crap.

I'm pretty sure if your ass is living in Sunnyvale you don't need to be begging in the first place.

Now if somebody in say Burma or Tibet needed Bitcoin begging would be a reasonable approach as compared to faucets  :D

Those are more likely scammers than beggars.  They pretend to be sick/ill/disabled and suck money out of people at freeway off-ramps.  Then after a good day of pulling $400 out of the generosity of others they hop in their Audi A6 and drive home to their home in Newport Beach :P

Unless you're willing to lie you would probably be better off working some off jobs. I guess it depends on how much your integrity is worth.

Obviously, your friends prefer to have USD rather than BTC, and so it is reasonable for them to make such comments.
For those appreciate BTC more than USD, they will love to get paid in BTC. :)

On this forum begging is not allowed at least so we don't see much of it and if we do its dealt with pretty quickly but if you do see someone begging I would create a scam accusation against them straight away because someone begging is not someone who you should trust.

I have checked your blog just now. It is good to see that you have included the pay rate of those sites, but for some sites it doesn't reflect the whole story.

For example, you have put "upto 0.3BTC" for freebitco.in. It is true, but the chance to get that is just 0.005% and you can only get slightly more than 300 satoshi each time very likely. :)

"Help, I have no money, five hungry kids, I need money to buy bitcoins". It's a new approach, it could work. Make sure you have a largish qr code for a paper wallet, in case a journalist comes by.

BTC faucets are a waste of time and life. Alt faucets tend to be much more generous in their early days and if the coin in question explodes you might get a useful payday.

It is indeed much simpler than that.
This guy (http://www.coindesk.com/sports-fan-gets-over-20000-donations-bitcoin-address-sign/) got over 22 btc in just 2 days by simply showing a banner with a QR code in front of the camara. :)

You should come up with a list of jobs they can do for you and put a BTC price on each one. They need to understand that bitcoins aren't free so they should not expect to get them for doing almost nothing.

Faucets used to give around 1 Bitcoin which obviously is worth the time now that Bitcoin has exploded but the likely hood of earning your time back from 0.00001 Bitcoin is hard to imagine.

If you have the coins behind you to be able to do this, this is a great idea.

Now, the question becomes; what do you need?

I can't think of a lot of services that I need completed in exchange for BTC, it's more goods on my end. I can't really think of much that I want, since I'm not really into vanity things on the internet, like Facebook likes or whatever else is being sold these days.

However, this is great way to earn BTC from someone else.

Maybe digital goods on video games they play? That could be an idea. (Just keep prices cheap, like $0.10/item or whatever)

There are ways on the internet if you don't want to invest your own money, but you won't get anything for free.

yes, there was a time -- back then, BTC's success was much less certain. they needed to be distributed like that for more people to have incentive to want them. now, it's just based on ad revenue.

BitcoinGet has been around and paying out for well over a year now. It is not a faucet, but rather an "earn" site, where you get BTC for completing microtasks. We have users that consistently earn 10-20 USD equivalent of BTC a day in their spare time. In the early days, some users were earning 0.5 BTC a day.

You don't need to "pay" for the bitcoin, but no matter you are doing some micro-tasks, watching some youtube videos or simply seeing some ads, you are indeed providing a service in exchange for the bitcoin.

If you don't mind doing some work for Bitcoin, you can check out this link

http://www.reddit.com/r/Jobs4Bitcoins/comments/2c09gj/hiring_writers_for_weekly_articles_on_writing/

You can actually do quite a few things on Reddit that would earn you either BTC or other altcoins like Doge that you can then exchange for BTC.
You can for example sell your services or graphic design work. After Doge launched, I advertised to teach chess on the Doge marketplace and got quite a bit of Doge from it  ;)

Tell them they need to start being active in the community and figureing out a service they can provide for Bitcoin or sell things others may want.  Tell them not to wait if they are really interested in Bitcoin or they could regret it down the line.

Everyone I've talked about to Bitcoin reacts simarly. They expect it's some sort of way out from the rats race and they are going to get rich like the stories they read, but as soon as you told them these were the early adopters they lose interest and say they would rather get paid in actual money.

Yes, I think he is wrong too. We are the early adaptors. Take the forum as indicator, there 347.634 members. In a few years I think this will reach 1.000.000 members, the price per BTC may be far beyond $1000.

We'll see our $1,000 before we see the 1,000,000 members, I'm almost sure of it. We'll be getting more members because of the second spike, and it will hopefully plateau there, for a little while, and then go up.

Tell your friends they're making a huge mistake, and the next spike to $1,000 will be missed because of what they think. That always works for me.

Im new and even if tried, most people will not get big gains from a 1000 dollar spike. Unless it goes to like what, 10K? it will not make life changing changes for people's lifes. It's too expensive for most people to get into Bitcoin now, they think "I cant even own 1 BTC".
I for example cant buy 1BTC but im still into it because im sort of a nerd. But then again, success is when non nerds use the product.

I think it's when you make a purchase over a certain point.

I'm not clicking that, however. I can't trust it.

Plus it's a tiny-url (http://tinyurl.com/p6weqml <-- DO NOT CLICK) so you can't even tell if it's legit.

Although if they expect a sizeable amount, they are in for a huge disappointment. :)

If you and or your friends have internet access and would like to make some posts for me on other forums, I will give you guys Bitcoins for your service. It's free in the sense that you don't need to put any money into it to get bitcoins, but not-so-free in that you need to provide a relatively easy-to-do service for me. PM me if you're interested.

If you want to get bitcoins fairly easily and at no cost to you but time then offer services you know you can fulfil. There are a lot of people out there who are willing to pay your for your services and if you state you wish to be paid in bitcoin there will be people willing to do that.

These kinds of giveaways are generally more or less the same as trying to use a faucet. If you do not want to buy BTC on an exchange, and you have nothing that you can sell (goods/services) for BTC, then the best way to earn a little BTC is via a signature campaign.

Uh  I got over $5 online begging... Then spread that out over Bittrex and Seals with Clubs and you can get more! You just need to know the right sites and the right people to beg from. I think my account on that site is going to get banned for this... but worth the BTC!

(P.S. If you want to know the site so you can beg, I will sell the information for 0.003 BTC!)

Now it is hard to earn BTC. Anyway you can get some but it isn't much profitable. You can earn from faucets, referral campaigns, signature campaigns, trading and from mining. If you can invest some money, then buy miner(s) and mine some BTC (atleast 180 GHs) . Try buying S3, currently it is the best miner.

You can also play the game included in the Huntercoin wallet and earn btc by selling the HUC gathered.
Or you can join the Let'sTalkBitcoin forum and earn LTB coins by posting and listening to podcasts.

Alright. Since I am also fairly new to bitcoin and have pity on bitcoin-less people, I will PM you the information. Don't share it with too many people or the guy will stop giving out BTC (cause he'll run out).

Tell them if their willing to take the time to look into Bitcoin they can likely find a way to make some Bitcoin in a fun and interesting way.  If that doesn't get them interested then theirs not much else you don do.  They will regret not getting on board when you told them, that is for sure.
