Bitcoin is already legal in many countries, see Legality of bitcoin by country or territory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory) for a list per country.

Some countries officially recognize Bitcoin:
Quote
Japan officially recognizes bitcoin and digital currencies as a "means of payment that is not a legal currency"
Others declared it "not illegal":
Quote
As of November 2016 declared, bitcoins are "not illegal" according to the Federal Tax Service of Russia
(quotes from Wiki (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory))

I don't think that any country can actually reject Bitcoin. Well Bitcoin might not be recognised as an official currency in any country because people will not want to drop their currency for Bitcoin.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are already legal in a lot of countries. The fact that businesses can accept them as a form of payment and that any gains have to be reported and then paid tax on (at least in the UK) shows that countries have legalised it. Other than that and the existing forms of regulation, I'd think it has already been pretty much legalised.

In Europe everywhere is the partial legalization. In Austria there is even a Bank which opens an account in bitcoins. In Switzerland you can pay utility bills using bitcoin. There are bitcoin ATMs. Officially, bitcoin is not recognized currency anywhere. I have not heard that any company officially paid wages in bitcoins.

Keep in mind that bitcoins are created and principally used by its community so it's caracteristics and functions don't depend on any governemental decision or international treaty. Face to conservative financial world order based on centralisation and birocracy, early talk about bitcoin as legal system of payment but it's not also considered as "illegal" till start affecting its environment of circulation.

what do you mean by legalizing? Bitcoin is already legal in most countries.
Some accept as a legal payment method in markets. You can see in most countries in all continents.
Some accept as a wealth of storage. Chinese regulations can also be considered as legalization.

Japan, USA, other African countries are now declared cryptocurrency as legal. In fact they are the biggest in market of cryptocurrencies. Anyway, it can be change. If you look at China. Cryptocurrency legality is questionable because anytime they can declare them as illegal. Recently, they ban ICO crowdfunding. Next is the exchanges there. They stopped all trading activities there by stopping all exchanges there to operate. There's a possibility that they will ban cryptocurrency there.

Countries with economical unstability might be the first ones. Maybe Venezuela, or even Zimbabwe may adopt BTC, because they have not many to lose because the state of their financial system is not very good.  But don't know if their create legislation about BTC anytime soon! Is too volatile still, and then  it can bring losses, and the adpoters of it will have to respond to it, causing bad climate in those countries.

Bitcoin is not legal all over the world. There are many country where bitcoin is illegal. I heard about Venezuela where it is legal. May be there are other such kind of country where government accept this valuable currency.

If china authorizes the exchanges after issuing licenses, then it plainly mean that china legalizes bitcoin.
After exchange are provided licenses, china government would have no reasons thereafter to make them down again.
By granting license, it clearly appears that china will be the first country to legalize bitcoin.

Well there are some countries that actually already are Bitcoin friendly like Australia, Japan, etc. The problem is if they try and tax people for their money. Then there won't be a reason for people to declare.

As others have said, it's legal in a lot of countries. That can change in a hurry though. Some governments are just playing the waiting game and we really have no control over their decision. Bans are unlikely, but not impossible.

Once China lead the network, now I believe that the hands of Japan seems raising. Already Japan has made a regulated usage with more markers for the same. Hope in future the same continues making it the center for all the financial development happening through digital currencies.

I think that the other countries will follow what japan did in bitcoin and they will have a lot of stores that will accept bitcoin like in japan.

Yes the bitcoin is the important currency and the price and the value of the bitcoin is increasing more and more. In the past the bitcoin is getting high and the popularity of the bitcoin is increasing. The china was the first currency holder and the bitcoin will be more than this in the future. The countries and the bitcoin are getting more expensive so hold the bitcoin and increase the value of the bitcoin is good in each and every country.

What you mean and what is your description of your concept of legality of bitcoin in a country. Wherein there are already countries that accepts bitcoin use and mode of payment. Some countries like Asia, accepted or made the use of bitcoin legal by implementing it with taxes. I am very curious which country government will make use of bitcoin without or have the cheapest fees.
I think that if aollying taxes is the only way for government to acknowledge bitcoin then I will agree with it. But I hope the taxes will be fair.

I don't know of any companies (by company I mean MNC) that does but I've read on this forum and elsewhere that some employees have asked to be paid in BTC.
What I meant was that businesses (including large companies) have started accepting BTC as payment for their goods or services. I don't know what they do with that BTC (if they keep it or convert it) but they accept it as a payment method nonetheless.

I think paying employees in BTCs has a few issues at the moment. One is definitely how to agree on the rate: if the contract calls for specified amount of BTC, then employee has a currency risk due to high volatility. Another thing are the social contributions that employer has to pay on top of the net salary (health and social insurance...). Much of this actually depends on the legislation, which usually specifically prescribes in what form salaries must be oaid out (e.g. prohibition to pay in "assets" etc.). Some of these could probably be solved, but then again it is easier to pay the employee in fiat and let him deal with transferring the money to BTC.

You are right on the fact that MNCs or even SMEs are accepting BTC as a payment option. However this is still done in rare places; not enough to spark a real economy around bitcoin. Moreover, my guess is that once that happens, governments will intervene since this would become an economy that they cannot monitor. Perhaps it will be an invisible intervention (reverse-engineering who owns what wallet address) or more upfront (requiring disclosure of ID at payment or similar). What do you guys think?

Zimbabweans are really making use of bitcoin to support themselves by using it more as a safe haven looking at the fact on how their currency has failed them over the years. Even the government is gradually looking into how they can use it to benefit their economy and probably have it better than they always have. The hyperinflation in this countries have really driven the desire for bitcoin high and it wont be far before it becomes even more of use than the normal fiat for them.

My thought would be japan or Russia
as i have seen these two countries who really supporting blockchain technology .
i know which country will not definitely gonna legalise it.
first on the list would be china second Korea then america.
i know that that have not banned bitcoin exactly now but imposing trading restriction and announcing owncryptocurrency is what governmet doing to make money form people.

Either Valenzuela or Japan because both of them give recognized in bitcoin and also starting to adopt the bitcoin market maybe these two country will start eliminating fiat soon and make bitcoin as their primary currency, I think their government are open minded to this kind of economy

That's exactly what I think.
Of course BTC and other CCs is accepted somewhere as a form of valid payment , but officially the Govs has not stated anything about what it will be its future.
Because as I can see, you now can accepted but tomorrow you don'y know. So it has to happen first somewhere where a country recognise it as a form of legitimated currency.

The fact that is an acceptable form of payment as I see it's not officially legalised by the local Government.
I mean - you can ask to your firm to be paid in USD, right ? But you can't with BTC because they won't be allowed.
So that's the question.

You are right about china banning ICO - but they are looking forward to change their words about it. And like Venezuela where nobody trust the local authority anymore, they are willing to trade their saving in BTC so they won't lose their money in hyperinflation .

You are right - it's not ILLEGAL . But none of the Governments have ever stated that is Legal , so I just wonder when this will happen...Because it has to.

Think now if BTC is banned in your country - even if before yesterday it was not illegal. What will you do with all the BTC you have ?
Of course you can still trading and stuff - but the main reason they are created is to use as DIGITAL CURRENCY and use it actually.

Because it could help a certain country to improve in the financial status. Especially if its a 3rd world country. But sometimes most innovators are 1st world countries because maybe they can really afford legalizing bitcoin or they could make infrastructures for mining bitcoin. It would be better if corporations also would support bitcoin even if their government doesnt really see it as a fit on their country.

I'll stand with what I said that it really doesn't matter who will be the first country to adopt and who will be the last. 1. United States

The United States has taken a positive approach to Bitcoin. At the same time, there are several government agencies working to prevent or reduce the use of Bitcoin for illegal transactions. Payment using Bitcoin has also made it into the U.S. derivative market, which further reinforces that the presence of the digital currency is more legitimate.

U.S. Criminal Law Enforcement Network has published a guide on Bitcoin since early 2013. They define Bitcoin as a currency business, not as a currency. And this puts it under the Bank Secrets Act that requires reciprocity and payment processors to fulfill certain responsibilities such as reporting, registration and record keeping. In addition Bitcoin is categorized as a property for tax purposes by the IRS.

You are right mate! A lot of the countries are accepting the bitcoin and they are trying to make the bitcoin. The price of the bitcoin is increasing more and more and the value of the bitcoin is increasing so I think it is very good to invest the money in the bitcoin and to hold the bitcoin for the sake of the bright future because having the money is the best thing but having the bitcoin is the amazing thing.
Now a days countries are willing to accept bitcoin as a payment method because they know that it can make there economy better. Because if they accept bitcoin as a payment method then many businesses will become a good and profitable because we know that bitcoin price increasing so that's the step where countries are looking forward to accept bitcoin.
One of the reasons also why most establishments nowadays and most probably businesses accepts bitcoin as their method of payment, there is no longer need to elaborate the benefits of bitcoin as well. Some prefer it as a day to day currency or a payment, but as for me i would prefer to use it as my investment. As what i can observe lots of countries are already planning to adapt bitcoin to their country and make it their official secondary currency.

Complete countries will not make Bitcoin as a primary currency because Bitcoin is an internet currency and still, there are many people and many countries who depend on the paper currency.

Actually there's a lot of countries that recognizing bitcoin and declared that it is legal to their jurisdiction. I have witnessed a thread here about Brazil that has 150 stores that accepts bitcoin. And I can't tell on what country is the first to legalize bitcoin because what's important to me, it doesn't matter anymore if that will be the first or last country but what's important is that they are supporting bitcoin.

I agree with you - it doesn't really matter first or last - but to start accepting worldwide someone has to take the first step.
The fact that is not illegal does not mean it totally legal.

Let’s make and example: say you buy some goods online paying CCs.
After some time, your local Gov say it’s not legal at all, and the vender who hasn’t change the CCs you gave him, ask to be paid again with some other form of payments because he can’t use them anymore.
What the hell you can yell - but because he knows who you are by your address, you are tracked and sooner or later you have to refund him.

Of course I support BTC and I wish it can spread worldwide and really become the first currency accepted - but for now there still are some critic point and without any warning one country could limit its power ( even if it's decentralised ) stated it as illegal.
So if you have a local business and you have started accepted bitcoin, what would you do in that case ?

You're right buddy. But it only works if you are a private person and you don't have a company business. What would you do with your employee ? Do you pay them in BTC even if " it's not illegal" ?
I mean you can't just hold if you have to pay someone unless you trade them as soon as you receive, like Bitty I think does.
Of course you could have some extra saving in local currency to pay the supply chain for some days/months but it will end sooner or later...

In terms of crypto legalization I think the first country to legalize all cryptic urgencies is Japan. This assumption is based on the current status of Japan which considers bitcoin as legal. It is one of the countries who adopted bitcoin early and the probability of them legalizing cryptocurrencies is very high. Aside from Japan, the other country that might be the first to legalize crypto is Russia. As far as I know they are making their own cryptocurrency which is based on cryptorubble, and the chance of them legalizing other crypto by applying regulations to them is also high.

Hey :D
Japan will be the first country to take this step no doubt.
Bitcoins are legal in many countries but not recognized as an official currency but in a sense they aren't made for this recognition at all, cryptocurrency is a different thing and they are not the same as regular currency.
But right now the world is divided into two parts:-
1. People who are seeing bitcoins as a threat or who wants to control the value of bitcoins like China and Russia.
2. People who are legalizing bitcoins and also the counties who are making it taxable so that they can gain official recognition. Like India and Japan.
Anything is possible right now, the future of bitcoins isn't even decided.

I think, and I believe, our country will be the first to be legalized in bitcoin or other cryptocurrency. Hopefully this will be true. It is said that a media network here in our country has bitcoin use to grow Philippines. And experts and analyzers agree on it. Perhaps only a few know it in our country but it is legal and approved by our Central Bank. And that would be legal also with people.

Once China lead the network, now I believe that the hands of Japan seems raising. Already Japan has made a regulated usage with more markers for the same. Hope in future the same continues making it the center for all the financial development happening through digital currencies.
Well also agree with you that japan can be the first because in some part of the japan there are some companies who are giving bitcoin to their staff as a salaries and I think it’s a very hard prediction about bitcoin that which country will accept bitcoin first as a officially because there are a lot of countries who have accepted bitcoin and I think now thy are thinking to accept it officially.

That means approved by the Central Bank? You can go into any Bank and exchange bitcoins for Fiat? I don't believe. This will not happen. Why banks need bitcoins? Now on the contrary there are people who come to the Bank and take a loan in Fiat to purchase bitcoins in a year increase the capital in several times. What is the interest of banks to work with bitcoin?

Japan has accepted and recognized the bitcoin as currency. There are other countries on list which have accepted the bitcoin. The small distinction is that many countries have recognized the bitcoin asset and not as currency. Like Israel or India they have marked bitcoin as asset so tax on bitcoin will be levied accordingly.
Recently some countries are banning the ICO, that is good step because most of them are frauds. These steps will save some.

Well that's great thing to hear, As I've heard lots of country already legalize the bitcoin and hopefully in my country bitcoin will be recognize and legalize soon.

I think in Europe they are still 50/50 as far as bitcoin acceptance is concern. Some of them are noting bitcoin as for scam and Ponzi scheme. But there's also a lot who is bitcoin friendly and the air is very positive about it. While in other parts, some of the government is still undecided. In Asia though, bitcoin is very welcome except for China who we all know suddenly turns it back against bitcoin. So I don't know which country will follow the path of legalization after Japan or Australia, but I'm assuming that many countries are contemplating having a tighter regulation or a total ban itself. Let's wait and see how countries will react to bitcoin and cryptocurrencies.

Bitcoin is already legal in many countries, see Legality of bitcoin by country or territory (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory) for a list per country.
Thanks a lot for sharing that link. This shows the stand of all countries worldwide and how they perceive bitcoin. From the look of things, very few countries have come out to declare bitcoin illegal, while some did not really give where they stand but still did not declare it illegal but for citizens to use bitcoin at their own risk.

From the development so far, I feel we are still on the right track and eventually most countries will end up succumbing to not having issues with bitcoin.

Yes a lot of the countries are holding the bitcoin and the price of the bitcoin is increasing more and more. I like the bitcoin for the reason and the reason is the saving of the money I love the bitcoin for the increasing price and I love the income so I think being a part of the bitcoin I should try to promote the bitcoin and should struggle to make the bitcoin more popular and the legal currency.

I think that is Japanese. Because the origin of Bitcoin is in Japan. Nationally, that is necessary, it will set the example for large nations to follow

Japan will be the first (as under my knowledge, they have already started regulating and legalizing it, and India is following them too on this), Canada has started preparing a framework in which they will discuss the steps to regulate Bitcoins, Russia will be regulating it and so many other countries to follow.
All this for legalization and regulations? Do you really think there will be any successful future once it gets started being regulated by governments and/or their old banking systems? I am not scared but worried about the future of Bitcoins because once it gets "regulated", there won't be anything here called as "decentralized" anymore.

What do you mean? Many countries are already legalized bitcoin or even the other cryptocurrencies(altcoin). Make your own research mate https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory
Even china is not declaring cryptocurrency in general as illegal except for some ICO activities that has generated a whole lot of scam which to me is against their monetary policy, hence, the ban. However, China has come out to say they cannot ban bitcoin and that apparently gives users to make use of it with only approved exchanges.

However, if we look far back as 2013 like you said, china or south korea may actually have been the first to allow the use of bitcoin even though they forbade banks from involving in such transactions.

China? You don't know Chian at all, I'd rather pick South Korea or Japan. Also, bitcoin is already legal almost everywhere but I don't think there will ever be a coutnry to implement it as it's main currency.
Apparently, countries can only allow the use of bitcoin as a secondary currency as long as no one is using it for fraudulent means.
Also, China has been on the forefront of bitcoin usage right from the onset except for some huge policies and strict laws that can make them wake up one morning to just either stop exchanges or sort. The truth is they have never banned P2P exchange of bitcoin right from 2013.

I do not think that this can happen. While the state does not establish full control over this currency and until it does not see the benefits from it, nothing happens. But still if it happens, hope it will be China or Japan.

There's no reliable sources of fact that bitcoin is originated from Japan, satoshi nakamoto itself just a persona of crypto currency creators, whether there's an actual Satoshi nakamoto exists or not noone of us know.
One important thing is that, Japan accepting bitcoin as legal tender and officially endorse bitcoin mainly not because it's originated from japan but there's other factors that trigger the act of japan to accept bitcoin and recognise it as a legal tender.

Zimbabwe as well as Singapore and japan are also on the list and chances of japan are more bright because japan is at top on the list of bitcoin user and it doesn’t matter which country will accept it the this thing matter that the country that will accept it will lead word in field of development and economy and bitcoin will give that region strength to lead from the front.

Well I think Japan can be the first one to make bitcoin legalized although bitcoin is accepted by some develop countries and still there are a lot of countries that they are going to accept bitcoin but I think they want to give some extra time to bitcoin and I am sure that these countries will legalized bitcoin in their countries because its playing a big role in their economy.

Yes I agree with you bitcoin in legal in some countries already and some countries like japan there are giving bitcoin to their staff as a salary so I think the rest of countries will also accept bitcoin and will make it legalized soon because bitcoin is playing a big role in economy of any country specially in third world countries its playing a big role.

what do you mean by that questions? there are 10 top countries which adopt bitcoin as the currency. they are USA, UK, Canada, Belgium, Australia, etc. even Australia calls bitcoin as a non-harmful mean of transaction. since the creator of this bitcoin is Satoshi Nakamoto who is claimed from Japan, I think Japan is the first country which legalize bitcoin.

I really do not know the answer to this question, however, according to my memory, China is not the first country to legalize bitcoin, although bitcoin was the world's largest bitcoin market, but one Water in Europe allows the use of bitcoin freely as a real currency.

Legalize Bitcoin? Japan is one of the countries publicly announced BTC as form of currency is payment, small and compact countries would benefit from it as it increase buying power and stimulate economy growth among different niche economy. I believe your context would be BTC pairs with their national currency as well? that would hardly happen for any established country though.

Nevertheless, Wiki has a reliable, extensive list of statement from different countries regarding legalization on Bitcoin - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory. The conclusion is most of the countries doesn't play strict with usage of BTC itself as long owners are able to comply regulations primarily on identification purposes to reduce money laundering. My country is coming up with its purpose towards banning or not toward cryptocurrency this year, guess it would be a turning point over my journey here.

Definately. I hope the same buddy. Something has to change, somehow.

Great point of view buddy!
We are the witness of what the world will look like in the next year - and we as community can make our best to change it in a better way.
Third world country have the power of millions of people even if they are poor, and that what can be counted. But in this way the need to be taught how to use it in a right way.

I personally hope your point 1) wouldn't take place otherwise less will change from now  :-\

What a nonsense. Another thing, even in countries where Bitcoin isn't legalized there are Bitcoin ATM's operational, so that hasn't much to do with legalization. On top of that, thus far there has only been one bank that actually allowed people to buy Bitcoin through their regular ATM, and that's basically it. Not sure where you get your information from, but I would definitely start putting effort into doing some actual research before taking things for granted so easily.

Bitcoin is already officially recognized/legalized as money in Japan and Australia. If OP meant which country will be the first to accept Bitcoin as its national/primary currency? Bitcoin is the primary currency of a micronation, Principality of Pontinha :D

Bitcoin is highly volatile so a country accepting Bitcoin as its national currency would have to deal with volatility having an impact on their economy. But countries with broken economies, hyperinflation, Bitcoin being used as a primary currency by their citizens, hyperbitcoinization, I think such countries might possibly Bitconize completely, for example, Venezuela.

I think we can say that Switzerland has already legalized Bitcoin because you can officially buy Schweizerische Bundesbahnen (SBB) tickets with BTC.

You can in Switzerland to buy it but only a small amount ! So we can say they still control it in a kind of way.
With that amount however you can pay tax ( around 350 USD maximum) so yes it’a definately a first step in a long way journey to became worldwide accepted  >:(

I didn't know about the limits at the time I was writing the post, but now I checked it and came across this article in Coindesk, https://www.coindesk.com/swiss-railway-service-sell-bitcoin-ticket-kiosks/, which states the following: "there will reportedly be a CHF 5000 annual cap on purchases". That's roughly $5,000 annual limit which is a big amount considering that it is to spend on the railway services. I can't imagine someone who needs to spend more than that in one year.

BitCoin is not illegal so a country can legalize it. legalizing illegal requires serious legislation and must be at a level that will be addressed by an official institution.

Bitcoin is legal in most countries, if you mean to make it a legal tender then it is difficult to predict, Japan will likely be the first as they are at the forefront of most things and it is already an accepted means of payment.

Bitcoin is legal in many countries and many countries also use Bitcoin for many transactions like Japan I guess. It cannot be said that any country will not reject Bitcoin because some have opposed the use of Bitcoin. Bitcoin may be legal and used by a big lump of population of a certain country but it may be not possible for Bitcoin to get recognized as national currency of a particular nation.

You're right buddy.
Although we got to remember that communist China government has been controlling their economy and power for hundreds years so it won't be so easy for them to legalise it and indeed loosing their "in-everything" control.

The fact that most user are there anyway can let us think where to look right  :)

Yes true, I agree that Japan is the first country to legalize bitcoin.
Mr. Nakamoto Satoshi is from Japan, so if I think the first country to legalize the use of bitcoin, the first step is that the Japanese government is currently certifying the exchanger.

I think that Venezuela might use bitcoin as a national currency (they already use it widely).Thats not a legalization but it is authorized by people.
If I remember correctly in Venezuela is illegal to mine bitcoin, I do not know if the possession of bitcoin is illegal too but I will not be surprised of that, so a change in regime could be needed so bitcoin is accepted as legal tender in Venezuela and I do not know how long that is going to take with the government doing everything they can to maintain themselves in power.

It will be the best fortune for the people of Philippines if the government legalize bit coin because this legalization will bring prosperity and financial stability in the country and being a transnational tool bitcoin will make the transfer of money from outside the country very easy and feasible. You even do not need to move your assets to other country, in fact you can use bitcoin from anywhere and any time,

Your correlation of development with the technology is highly appreciable because we are observing all the develop countries and realize it that the development of a country is directly related to the technological advancement because the present world is the world of technology. I think Europe the first country that recognized or legalized the bitcoin or cryptocurrency because they using bitcoin for any transaction for goods and services because bitcoin they called also a virtual currency in there country so that i think europe is the first country legalized bitcoin.
There are many countries who have legalized bitcoin but the first one was Germany. It has been supporting it a lot but China was the country with most support which is not into it anymore. Many Asiancountries can be listed in those who legalized bitcoin.Europe accepts bitcoin but it was not the earliest bird. Anyways, it is good to see that now bitcoin is being used in many countries of the world legally.

Actually, no. I spent in Switzerland 6 months some time ago. I was working and living in Geneva and I can say that the rent is very expensive there that's true, but the food is not. For example they have a Pizza Hut in the center of Geneva and the prices there are same as in other similar places around the world.

I still think that Switzerland will be one of the very first countries who will adopt and legalize Bitcoin completely.

I disagree with you on USA. Although some people in their government indeed are trying to block all the anonymous activity, most people there respect freedom and they will never do such thing as blocking Bitcoin. On the contrary, they will be supporting Bitcoin more and more in the future.

Right now there are over 1,000 Bitcoin ATMs in the USA, much more than in any other country. Take a look at the list here:

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are already legal in a lot of countries. The fact that businesses can accept them as a form of payment and that any gains have to be reported and then paid tax on (at least in the UK) shows that countries have legalised it. Other than that and the existing forms of regulation, I'd think it has already been pretty much legalised.

in my opinion also so, have many countries that have melegal bitcoin, the proof some countries already have that make bounty campaign in this bitcointalk site

Germany was the first country to recognize bitcoin as private money (or currency).
Well to be honest I am not aware of this reality and I am happy read your post and it has increased my knowledge and the information of the bitcoin acceptance. I hold the bitcoin and here in my country bitcoin is being use for the payment and the other purposes, money can be use but the bitcoin is easy and simple to pay no one will be able to take the extra income and tax from your pocket if you will use the bitcoin as the legal currency.
Well bitcoin is already legalized in some countries and I think japan was the first country who make bitcoin legalized in his country and I’m quite sure that rest of countries will also accept bitcoin because bitcoin have a power that can compel any country to make bitcoin legal in his country because they know bitcoin can play a big role in their economy.

It has to happen ( even if I don't know how )

I bet in China  ;)

Yesterday, Bitcoins has been featured in the news here in our country and it was a very bad report telling that bitcoin is a scam. The news has been broadcast all over the country and i think that it was a good thing that it happen so not everyone will know how much money they will earn from bitcoin, By the way the country is here in the philippines.

Got it buddy.
Yes, of course Governments want to manipulate as usual the mass media and warning its civilians to take distance from what the cannot control as cryptocurrencies.
So it not such a big news they are telling in such a bad way. So we as community have the duty to talk to our closest friend and tell them what it's really going on here  ;)

You are right but I really don’t know which country make bitcoin legalize because a lot of countries now where bitcoin is allowed and legal because bitcoin is the most popular cryptocurrency and their economy are now growing very speedy this is the power of bitcoin.

So far this year bitcoin approve by our government here in philippines the central bank of philippines will now acknowledge bitcoin apart of them by using transaction to pay.
I don’t know which country legal bitcoin first because some countries like JAPAN, USA, KOREA, CANADA etc where bitcoin have a lot of followers and they believe in bitcoin so their countrymen are enjoying their time and this is what people hope in bitcoin investment.

It is not important which country is the first, what is important that in the end
all countries should legalize bitcoins, and some other crypto-currencies.
Countries that are first, like people who introduced with bitcoins first, have benefits
from that. Countries that adopt bitcoin sooner will have more time to establish new
system of payment network, they will make companies for that sooner then others and
they will earn from that a lot.
It is like some kind of changing, who pass trough this changes will advance further and

I would agree in this. Bitcoin has been legal with money countries and has been widely spread even in the governments. However Japan has the first to recognize bitcoin as a good resource for payment and any transactions. I believe many more countries even in Asia will legalise it as the day comes.

I agree Japan are the most likely candidate to start bitcoin's legalization because they seem to be allowing bitcoin to gain grounds over there than many of the advanced countries out there and so if there is ever a country that will legalize bitcoin then Japan comes first in mind.

Bitcoin support keeps getting strengthened by the day and a government of any country will be doing themselves more harm trying to attack it than trying to benefit from it.

The top in this list is obviously America that has made the use of the digital currencies legal in their vicinity but with some partiality. On the other hand, Japan has considered it as a non harmful method of payment .Along with all this Europe Canada Israel and also the Korea has made the Btcs in the list of legitimate assets. So this is possible for the bitcoiners to use the currency in these listed countries with ease and less harm.

You're totally wrong my friend. Vietnam will never be the first country legalizing Bitcoin cause they're developing country so their technology still not developed enough to control Bitcoin. Beside Vietnamese government is going to ban Bitcoin in next year that why I think this case will never happen :)). IMO it must be Japan where Bitcoin was born.
I think Vietnam was the first country who legalized bitcoin as their legal and regular currency and started using bitcoin in their local markets. Now they have ATM machines of bitcoin. Gradually many other countries like Japan, India, South Africa, have legalized bitcoin and now Russia is going to legalize bitcoin in 2018.

It means that the world so turning towards bitcoin and in the near future the entire world will use bitcoin as a legal and regular currency.
At the moment everyone in Japan can easily use Bitcoin for payment in almost place in their country and it'll become the main payment method in this country soon.

I do not think neither that Vietman will be one of the first even if as you were saying there are many ATM that cash out fiat in exchange with BTC.

I'm looking forward to read and hear this news that will happen soon then what we are thinking..and it will change the way of action in economic world by who already are against BTC and stuff.
It has to happen ( even if I don't know how )

I bet in China  ;)

I think china wouldn't legalize bitcoin, they have a strict economy since they have a very large population and bitcoin is not taxable that is why they are planning to ban it in their country. But if they happen to actually legalize bitcoin then it would be a great news for a lot of bitcoin investors since it would open to new opportunities for bitcoin to gain much more higher value compared today.

Yes, they have banned it bit it does not mean they will start accepted again and legalise ICO. I think we'll see in short somethig big happen  ;D

I do agree. I think that China was once the world’s largest bitcoin trading market. But rumors says that most banks in China strictly bans bitcoins and the use of it is totally a punishable offense now. So maybe not China

No one could reject the mighty significance of bitcoin, it really helps much even to those not legal age that need an extra income for their extra allowance. This is a covenient way to all us to earn money even a simple citizen like us..

This is not what I intended..

I bet on Western superpowers like the United States, Canada and United Kingdom whom have shown a positive attitude towards the new technology. It is possible for the bitcoiners to use the currency in these countries with ease and less harm for they showed total support in the growing economy of bitcoin

I don't think so. Check out what Swonden is accused for by USA.
Those countries you mentioned are all but not pro freedom.

As far as I know Bitcoin is already a legally accepted currency in some countries. Didnt Japan make bitcoin an official currency at beginning of this year? As for other countries, I think Switzerland is very crypto-friendly and will likely find regulatory ways to help cryptocurrencies emerge.

Bitcoin is digital cryptocurrency and plays an important role in country economy power that’s why a lot of country legalized bitcoin, but I think the first country which legalized bitcoin firstly is JAPAN because whenever I heard about legalization of bitcoin there must someone mentioned JAPAN country.

There are some countries which legalized bitcoin completely and where bitcoin used as a official currency, these countries are JAPAN, CHINA, USA, KOREA and many more countries. But the first one which considers bitcoin to be legalized is JAPAN I think but I am not sure about that.

Bitcoin is a legal cryptocurrency here in the world but there are other countries that didnt notice what Bitcoin is. In this type of question, We didn't need to ask who is the first but much better if we will ask what are the other countries that doesn't make Bitcoin legal. As i've answered that kind of question, I bet in Japan. But i'm really sure.

There is a lot of countries that legalized bitcoin and i think that Japan was the first to fully legalized bitcoin. Bitcoin is a great cryptocurrency and that is why they legalized it and made it as a official currency in their country. I hope that the other countries and not only in the Asian countries will legalize bitcoin so they can enjoy the benefits of bitcoin.

It has to start from one country. And as you see and I agree with you it might be some country from East Asia like Japan or others. And then after it set the first step, many other country all around the world, especially those who are struggling to survive can take many advantages from adopt it.

We'll see, something is going to happen soon..
Putin said a word recently that most top countries are already accepting and regulating cryptocurrencies and that he believes they can see how they are doing it to integrate the same method into the Russian system. This is what would end up happening.

Most countries in the Asian continent have already legalized and started regulating bitcoin which is making it even more usable and popular in these countries and with that so many other countries will start using them as case study to implement the same strategies so as to benefit from it and this would be a win-win.

The time will tell us about it that which country will legalize it first. Not only japan but many other countries are also using bitcoin for payment procedures. Even the most backward countries of the world know about the bitcoin and are using it.

In Switzerland it is also used by some educational and other institutions, they receive their fee in form of bitcoin rather than paper money. Moreover time will decide that which country will legalize bitcoin first.

We'll see when the first country makes the first step and the other will follow. Again for me it will come from far East where it all begin and the third other world country will see that example and start accepting as local currency not only BTC but all the others Cryptos.

We nowadays are in the middle of revolution

Of course where all began it easier to see the innovation like ATM public in the street and local retailers accepting BTC...

Well, your knowledge is wrong. Japan has legalized it or what else will I call announcing its regulations? So many countries for sure have not shown their stand, but they are just being careful which I totally understand.

However, that does not make it illegal as they have not stopped anyone from using it except very few countries, which I do not even know they existed until now, that have banned it. However, there are so many more countries asides Japan that have really shown their plight in adopting it, most especially the Asians. You are wrong. China already banned bitcoin a few months ago and i think that bitcoin will wait for a long time before the china remove the ban for bitcoin. Legalizing bitcoin is not that hard because it already happened in Japan where they accepted bitcoin as a fully legalized currency and that is why bitcoin is now popular in that country and i hope that the other country will do the same.

China has recently changed its banned from ICO and they re-start accepting it. It's so important for their economy to strike when the iron is still hot -because they have the critic mass to make the things happen and spread all over the world - even in the G8's countries.

None can really go against the movement behind the Cryptos - maybe they could a years ago but defiantly not now.

I don't think instead that they are try to do their Crypto as Russia is trying because they are pretty sure that is not what their citizen want ( but when do they consider what their people are thinking about ?  ;D ;D ). So I'll go with the main trend BTC instead one of another of 3k and plus cryptos that we see today. The first is always the first right ?

We won't really say they are the first to accept bitcoin as bitcoin is being used in most places and still stays legal until declared illegal by the governments. Some governments are really trying their best to see how they can regulate it now following Japan's move and we should really be expecting moves like this as time goes on. It is a matter of time and before we all know it, bitcoin will hit the mainstream.

Obviously, we should not just expect every country worldwide to start accepting or legalizing bitcoin together all of a sudden and we cannot really know the next one that would be doing that. However, Japan is one country that has taken the bold step to officially announce its usage and regulations which I believe every other country is already trying to see how they can do the same.

Here in our country, our government is studying well how they can legalize bitcoin and imposed tax in it so that they can have a certain amount of money that they can you to regulate laws and to punished those scammers and I think they were thinking just like bank to have bitcoin have also insurance as well.

I bet on china but they are planning to ban bitcoin on their country , instead they are going to develop their own cryptocurrency to regulate on their own. But if China changes their mind, it might be the first country to legalize bitcoin because of their economic status now , they are rank one (1) with highest percentage and well known of their technology developments.
You are either just woke up form slumber or are not updated, China has banned bitcoin already in their country and there are many countries who have already declared bitcoin legal. Japan is indeed among these wise states who has let her people enjoy the perks of using world best crypto currency or improving their financial states. Bitcoin is now on its way to get legalized many developing countries such as India etc.
I will go with the japan because they are serious in making progress and bitcoin will lead them to the higher ranks also, and there were talk about Singapore also that they may be willing to do so but all this before time, it’s better that bitcoin to be declared as the global currency rather than any specific countries currency and the region who will make it nation coin will be the most successful region and everyone wants to work in there,

Bitcoin is already legalized in so many countries which includes Japan like you said, and unless people do not understand what legalize is, then OP's question does not really have a definite answer right now. This list shows the activity of each country with respect to the legalization of bitcoin for anyone who cares to know that Bitcoin is officially legalized, unofficially legalized or officially illegalized in the countries listed. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Legality_of_bitcoin_by_country_or_territory

Japan has already legalized bitcoin. Many other countries like australia are also friendly to bitcoin and might legalize in future. At first, vietnam was in an idea of legalizing bitcoin, but suddenly changed its decision and banned bitcoin.Same is the case with south korea also.India has not still made its stand clear. But in future,we may expect many countries to legalize bitcoin.
Most countries even though they have not stated their full decision, but they are really showing a lot of welcome approach to bitcoin and the blockchain technology which obviously already makes bitcoin legal and adopted for usage.

Like you said, we expect so many countries to state their opinions on bitcoin as times go on, but right now Bitcoin remains legal to use in most countries than even the ones it is illegal in.

if in my opinion, does it illegal or legal, it has not been problematic. let's just say in some countries that have not legalized bitcoin, but bitcoin can still be used by everyone and transactions are also free right? if the bitcoin is really illegal, then bitcoin trade should have been banned by the government.

I have not heard that any company officially paid wages in bitcoins.
partial means not totally legal?but in asia some countries accept
legalizations of bitcoin, same as venezuela the government might not legalize
formally but the whole country uses bitcoin as currency and i know theres a
lot there that uses bitcoin as currency and as what the OP predicted by couple
of years maybe world will accept bitcoin

Not all countries all over the world legaliza Bitcoin,Their are some country Bitcoin is legal like China,Japan,Korea legalize Bitcoin and accept as valuable currency..
Russia is just on the verge of regulating by looking at the way others are doing it to implement a way they can regulate its usage so it does not get to be used for illegal activities.

There is no way every government can discard the chances and the full force crypto has brought with it which totally balls down to the support of the community which is why it is hard for them to halt it and hence, just find a way to regulate the usage. Japan has really done a good job so far and I believe other countries will be following their lead.

First country legalized bitcoin and start is in the USA, after that many countries slowly adapt bitcoin as a economical problem solve. A source of extra income thats why many people adapt bitcoin in their country.

Japan is different from that 3 countries. We all know that Japan is now accepting bitcoin and legalized it. I think from what is happening, Japan will be the only one legalizing bitcoin this year, I think they will be just waiting what might happen to Japan before they accept it.
I think bitcoin is already legal in many countries and recently India also make bitcoin legal so I think japan was the first country who make bitcoin legal so I believe that some other countries will also make bitcoin legal end of this year because world realized the importance of bitcoin and now they want to support bitcoin for its high price.
I do not know if it was the first but in Brazil not to any kind of prohibition for the commercialization, mining or negotiation of the currency, of course many banks are against this new model of business and always they release announcements to frighten people who do not yet know the BTC , so as not to enter.

But that year 2017 the Brazilian Federal Revenue released official documents where it recognized the currency as a form of business, and also passed instructions to those who use the currency how to make their income tax.

I think japan is the first country that accepted Bitcoin as a legal currency and using it. Actually Bitcoin was accepted at some states in America but not all so i think it's not counted in this situation.

I read somewhere that also Belarus has started to accept cryptos in an official statement - the fun fact is Russia next to it is trying to ban and make they own coin  ;D ;D

After the futures, that could be seen as first step in the traditional market, it will be about time that every state start to recognise it officially - looking forward to head it. Until now, the Far digital West can continue  :D

After the Bitcoin futures came true on Chicago I think this is another step to make it legal worldwide. We'll see defiantly something happen shortly.. ;)

I guess this post is outdated, given the information you are giving right now. However, I think if no the US, European countries would be the pioneers to embrace the cryptocurrency market and legalize bitcoin because they are the ones that are technologically inclined with the better capacity and capability to use bitcoin to their advantage. Maybe right now, many countries are in the dark on how they can use bitcoins to their advantage, but I am pretty sure that it's only a matter of time before they crack the code and be able to take advantage of it.

Basically, we have a lot of examples of such countries that have legalized the usage of bitcoin and I consider all of them as smart ones. Not only that they accepted Bitcoin but I heard some of them are also planning to release their own cryptocurrency.  For example India is about to launch Lakshmi (I hope this was the name) as its first digital currency. Looks like they have figured it out that digital currencies are the future of money.

Ye right, about Estonia, probably because the parliament is short of getting money out of people. They want 21% tax money out of bitcoin trading (everything you make from selling and buying between cryptocurrencies, not exchanging from BTC to Euro).

I guess the first one to be actually will be Canada, as it tries to get Chinese miners to their side. They literally saw the potential of selling the electricity to miners.

I would love to think about that. Trust me I'd be so happy if really happened, but because I live in Italy , I know at least we as country will not take the leader of the pioneer inside UE.
There still are just too many lobbies that are worried about the implementation of Bitcoin in the real life in Europe so they are forcing mass media to bad-talking about that.

The revolution has to come where it was first thought : Asia.

The privacy that BTC can guarantee is not so anonymous as you might think - so if you're planning to hold, to sell or to buy something hoping the you are secure from Gov and the tax section unfortunately I got to tell you man you are wrong.

If a blockchain services want to track you, they can know exactly who are you.

Bitcoin is not legal all over the world. There are many country where bitcoin is illegal. I heard about Venezuela where it is legal. May be there are other such kind of country where government accept this valuable currency.
That's true, that there are some countries bitcoin is already legal, i think Japan is the first to legalize bitcoin until now. We heard that Japan is the largest number of bitcoin in all countries, the next is Philippines. In Philippines it used already as a form of payments and for buying. In the state of Florida in one of the cities, recently allowed to pay for public services with bitcoin and some altcoins, but Washington itself has not yet given an exact answer - Yes or no in respect of cryptocurrency. Maybe that is the country but I wilp bet that the japan wipl be the first in it because they are really into the cryptocurrency especially the creator of the bitcoins is satoshi which is allegedly a japanese if he is real. But I think a lot of country are not banning bitcoins so if a rhink is not illegal and then they are legal so basically if you see the world a lot of country have no concerns about bitcoins and they are not prohibiting it so that means that the butcoins are pagal to use in them.

Well, as far as I know the first country legalized the bitcoin was japan because japan is open for innovation and they thought bitcoin will help them to their economy. And based on what I read recently, In the mall of japan they started to accept bitcoin as a payment. And when japan accepted bitcoin china, switzerland, russia and some country followed it. But I thought cryptocurrency has a limited bitcoin transaction in china (I only read that in other section). However, its a great thing if many countries also accepted bitcoin.

I think that Venezuela might use bitcoin as a national currency (they already use it widely).Thats not a legalization but it is authorized by people.

Yes Japan has already accepted bitcoin in their country, and now their people are free to use bitcoin just like fiat currency. Bitcoin Will hopefully become legal in other countries also, because so many other countries are now thinking about to turn bitcoin as legal currency. But it will surely take some time because bitcoin is still very new and young.

They legalized bitcoin, because they see that its valuable and a big help to their country and to the people.
Actually, there's a bunch of countries are now accepting bitcoin as payment for few kind of transaction, though it is not yet legal like in the Philippines, but it's allowed to use. Japan are now legalize the usage of bitcoin and that is the reason behind why bitcoin goes up last year 2017. Though there are still some countries who against bitcoin but still it is not too late for them to adapt.

Many countries have accepted electronic money. However, these countries are both developed and developing countries. They know they are opportunities and strategies to help them succeed. That is very clear, no need to repeat.

I think Venezuela already did because they didn't have a choice. But if we're thinking of a country accepting crypto currency with their own fiat being stable would be japan. I mean they already have a booming crypto economy there and we can also see japanese ICOs left and right. I'd also think that the Swiss will aldo be the first to jump in on crypto currency.

It's strange. At the time this report was published in October last year, bitcoin was already officially recognized by the states as money. So, Japan has officially recognized bitcoin as a means of payment since April last year. Now, in most cases, states classify bitcoin as a financial asset.

As of November 2016 declared, bitcoins are "not illegal" according to the Federal Tax Service of Russia

Wow Thanks bro, good information. The future is bright for crypto in Asia, after I saw that most countries in Asia have legalized crypto, even though my country has not legalized it as a payment tool, but I don't think that is a big problem as long as I can trade and hold.

I don't think that any country can actually reject Bitcoin. Well Bitcoin might not be recognised as an official currency in any country because people will not want to drop their currency for Bitcoin.

Theres no need for bitcoin to be treated as official currency because all we need is adaption as a currency just like what japan does, meaning people might have option on what currency to use,so from then they will distinguish what is the better one to use is specific occasions..if this happen i believe that many users will be added into our community becaus of the benefits bitcoin can offer over fiats

I don’t even know why some people here are mentioning Venezuela, this is a country with a poor economy and using Bitcoin wouldn’t be such a good idea. One Bitcoin alone is worth millions of a Venezuelan Bolivar, and they all probably going to lose their money in this stuff.

If their government is smart they wouldn’t let such happen. And by the way, there are even lots of poor people there, so having Bitcoin as a currency wouldn’t be in Favor of those kind of people.

Southeast Asian nations may be one of the first countries to legalize Bitcoin, some of which have the best conditions to legalize Bitcoin. Examples are Singapore, Thailand, and Brunei.
Like which of them, Japan or China? Cause I’m pretty much sure that the Chinese are really against Bitcoin (I mean the Chinese government, though some citizens too). One country I have in mind is Sweden, if I’m right there was a time they mentioned something like that in the news🤔 well, I’m not sure but I’ve heard that everything about Bitcoin is moving pretty fine in Sweden and it’s well recognized, plus the government it’s also not against the use of it.

Yes, I do also believe that Japan will be the one to legalized bitcoin since Bitcoin was design by a japan's name Satoshi Nakamoto but beyond that reason japan is highly digitalized country and no doubt that will fully blast their monetary transaction by means of crypto currency and their is mass adaption by its people. I think the Chinese government is forbidding Bitcoin from circulating in their own country as they forbid their people to use Facebook. They have developed NEO, a cryptocurrency of China, and they want NEO to grow stronger than Bitcoin. But maybe in the next few years, when Bitcoin was globalized, by then, China would have accepted Bitcoin in direct confrontation with NEO.

Japan has officially recognized bitcoin and digital currencies as legal money with effect from April 1, 2017, which will help the integration of digital currency into the legacy banking system through regulation. In the world there are many states that have already recognized Bitcoin and do not put obstacles to its turnover. Japan, Estonia, the USA, Sweden, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Australia, Belarus. Also very many countries are approaching the legalization phase of the crypto currency.

Venezuela last month became the first country to launch its own cryptocurrency when it launched the virtual Petro, backed by crude oil reserves. The Marshall Islands said the SOV will be different because it will be recognized in law as legal tender, effectively backed by the government

Bitcoin  already legal in a lot of countries in the world right now. But some countries didn't take it easily.  The fact that businesses can accept them as a form of payment and that any gains have to be reported and then paid tax on (at least in the UK) shows that countries have legalised it. But as long as I know it first USA, , China  and japan russia approved is first

As far as I know many countries will want bitcoin to be legalized likely Japan but the problem is the sharing of income into the government in terms of paying taxes and the cooperation of the organizations to become a legit business.

Or others Criptocurrencies I mean..

I'm looking forward to read and hear this news that will happen soon then what we are thinking..and it will change the way of action in economic world by who already are against BTC and stuff.
It has to happen ( even if I don't know how )

I bet in China  ;)
I heard that Germany recently legalized operations with crypto. There are also positive news from Switzerland, Canada, Ukraine and some other countries. China is too much conservative to let its people uncontrollably use bitcoin and othet cryptocurrencies. Same thing can be said about all Asian countries, which is due to their historically grounded socio-economical structure.

There is a lot of countries that legalized bitcoin and i think that Japan was the first to fully legalized bitcoin. Bitcoin is a great cryptocurrency and that is why they legalized it and made it as a official currency in their country.

I think it must be Japan. In Japan people can use Bitcoin to purchase things and pay for some services but not all and there are a lot of BitcoinATM so it make people can buy Bitcoin very easy when they want to use cash to buy.

I think that receiving and legalizing bitcoin transactions and circulation for the first time is from China because the creator only has a name that has a Chinese name.

Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies are already legal in so many cryptocurrencies and they even have ATMs in those countries at various locations. So no need to be talking about you need to hear news lol, it’s already happening in lots of places and I believe it’s already being done in your country cause if not, you wouldn’t be here talking about Bitcoin.

Unless maybe you mean something else… if you can hit the main point. But as long as you’re being allowed to use Bitcoin to make transaction in your country without being disturbed by the government, then its legal.

yes, of course there are many, and there are also many countries that have the existence of bitcoin. I am sure that someday all countries will legalize it in addition to facilitating ways to transact, BTC also helps from an economic standpoint.

Apparently what you predict's wrong. Precisely what China does is the opposite, they have made crypto regulations into a regulation that is no longer conspicuous. As it turns out, Japan has already gone first which legalizes bitcoin. OK OP it's okay what matters, what you've hoped for has been replaced well.

I think our country philippines because many users now here are involving with cryptocurrencies and the government here are developing a new regulations for ICO project wich is handle by sec (Securities and Exchange Commission) they help those investors not only handling tokens or coins they want all investors to be part on that project and get some incentive to it. so I think its not first but they will legalize soon the cryptocurrencies here.

In Japan, btc has been accpeted as a payment method, that's why Japan is the biggest market of btc now.
