Title: Should I Be Scared Of Hackers If I Have Lot of BTC.
Post by: bakerlisa510 on November 22, 2017, 06:47:30 AM
I am hearing a lot of users' complaint about having a problem transferring their BTC, Nowadays I am not selling it because I am "Hodling" it for future. But I am a bit of scared now because all this news about the people's BTC being hacked.

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

The only way for you to lost your BTC is by phishing scams or the hackers stole your private key.

What kind of wallet do you use?
Web-based wallets are tend to be insecure due to how the private keys are stored on the cloud.

I'd suggest to get desktop wallet as you have more controls of your private key, just make sure your PC are clean from malware and junks.

If you're really serious about security you can get hardware based wallet like Trezor or paper wallet, that should be enough.

There's not much you can do if your wallet gets hacked. The only thing you can do right now is just make sure that never happens. If you're storing a lot of bitcoin, you should try to use a hardware wallet to store a majority of it. There probably isn't a need to keep a majority of it on an online address or something with a lot of security flaws. Of course, hackers will come at any option that's given to them. Just try to make it impossible for them to get to the goods.

there is nothing you can do if your account has been hacked.
it's better to secure your account with double protection like using 2FA features if available and saving your seed key on a piece of paper or something and avoid storing seed key on your computer/smartphone that's very risky.

It's recommended that you use cold wallet to store bitcoin. It would be safer. It's the safest way to go now.
In addition, it is recommended that you go to more than one wallet storage. This reduces the risk as much as possible.

Make sure noone has access to your private key, devide your holdings to different wallets (with different private keys) just for the case that one wallet get hacked one day. And store them in a secure place (e.g. paper wallet in a bank safe). Do not leave your holdings on a exchange.

You have to securely hold those bitcoin in either hardware wallet or in paper wallet printed with offline computer (this can be done through bitaddress, search for guide).

If you will store those bitcoin in web wallets like coinbase or xapo than your wallet might get blocked by them without any reason.

See you need to act smart if you are having lot of bitcoins, first do not store all of them at one place especially in online wallets, they are prone to hacked, use good paper wallet and save big amount of bitcoin there.secondly don't tell anyone about private keys of your wallet, don't save it online too, keep these things in mind and you are good to go.

If you are having lot of bitcoins it is better to use hardware wallets then no one can hake your bitcoins, only online wallets are less secured other wallets are more safer only the persons who have the private key will be able to access,so buy a hardware wallet and transfer all your bitcoins there then you are totally secured bro.

Even if you have a lot or not, even if its BTC or not, we should be careful on internet sites that we click because that is the first thing that a hacker or scammer do. Do not post also your private accounts on social media. Do not enter your account details or emails on unverified sites. Theres no need to be scared on holding BTC, we just need to be alert and wise. In case of suspicious events, report it immediately to the concerned authority.

Which means if you have an accident and hit your head you forget your password - and then because you had an accident you lose all your money - and then you don't have money to pay for the hospital. Clearly this just makes Bitcoin even more dangerous when you think about it

Yes you have too. Its better to transfer coins to offline wallet or create paper wallet. Because keeping in any of the exchange is not safe.

Just get a hardware wallet weather it is a trezor or even ledger go and purchase anyone. Handling too many wallets is sometimes really hard and anyone mistake can be too costly for us. Storing in trezor ensures you don't can trust everything with just a single wallet.

Storing on exchanges is surely the biggest threat with the recent hack on bitfinex again we should really be cautious while using exchanges. What i would suggest you if you wanna trade use any exchanger like changelly it does require you to instal additional wallets and might he time consuming but it is way safer.

Do not be scared, be prepared. The most targeted individuals are those people with lots of BTC and those who are using Windows. I moved 80% of my coins to paper wallets <offline cold storage> to keep them safe. I also split them in small quantities onto these paper wallets. < if I need to sweep BTC back to my online wallets, I do not risk losing all my coins in one hack. I sweep and move small amounts at a time to my Trezor <hardware wallet>

Keep the majority of your coins in cold storage and you will be fine. ^smile^

Regardless with the amount of Bitcoin you have, you should be careful of hackers. It is a good idea to HODL your Bitcoin for future but you need a tighter security especially that you have lots of Bitcoin. I suggest that you store it on a hard wallet. It is the most secure type of wallet so far and avoid clicking suspicious links.

The number one mistake people make is they inability to hold and protect they wallet private key which is the wallet seed, you can imagine people saving they key on they smart phone. So to be safe and secured is to be secret about you wallet seed and password as much as possible.

Use a hardware wallet and place it in cold storage. Focus on what you can do BEFORE you get hacked! If someone has your private keys already there is a 99.9% chance you will never see that BTC again.

Can i ask what kind of wallet you are using to store a large amount of bitcoin for you to be scared? Online wallets? Exchange? Coinbase? etc. The basic hacking 101 for them to steal your digital expensive coins is that it is stored on a hot wallet that means it is exposed everyday in the Internet added the drooling amount of the btc that is being exposed online.

If you are using hot wallet and preferred to hold it for a long time please don't hesitate to move your btc to a cold storage, that would make you ease from hacking problems just don't forget the backups that is not exposed to the Internet. If you are using an offline wallet and your backups is safe. remove your fear from being hacked just make it sure you know the basics on securing and protecting your coins.

You don't have many options. You could ask law enforcement to help you, but unless you know exactly who stole your coins and how they stole them, it's unlikely they can do anything. You can also pay for block chain analysis services, but all they can really do is track your coins if the hacker knows what they're doing.

That being said, the best thing you can do is to not get hacked. One of the best ways to accomplish this is to stay away from web wallets, as they're incredibly vulnerable to phishing. Next, don't visit shady sites and don't indiscriminately click on ads because that's a good way to get a virus. Lastly, protect your online identity with a paid VPN service and use Tor. There are lots more actions you can take, but these are the most basic steps. You shouldn't encounter too many problems if you stick to doing these.

The hackers can't hake your bitcoins in the transaction, the only possibility is they can steal your bitcoins by hacking into your wallets,so you need to have good and secured wallet if you have lot of bitcoins,it is better to store in software wallet who is giving you the private key or the hardware wallets.Never tell your private key to anyone store your private key in a secured place because the people have the private key will have full access to your wallets.

You can never truly stop hackers because they evolve and adapt to meet new challenges on a daily basis. There are certain percautionary measures like using a two factor authentication on a reliable wallet such as coin base that can help lower risk. But consider that hackers can steal your identity and social sercurity number there is no true protect for traditional banking let alone bitcoin wallets.

You wont be be scared if you do set the best security practices on where you would store up those large amounts of btc and i would really suggest to use hardware or offline wallet which you would store up those coins together with its keys and keep it for long term and dont forget on where you do keep that offline wallet. As long you are not disclosing your privatekeys to someone being hacked would really be a tough job for hackers because no one could able to bruteforce a certain wallet if keys is unknown by them.

Obviously yes! You must take sufficient precautions if you have significant number of bitcoins in your holding. Hackers can attack anyone if they come to know a particular address holds a decent amount of bitcoins. So there are few steps you should follow,

1. Never keep all bitcoins in a single wallet. Always diversify. Use a mix of hardware wallet, Offline or online wallets, cold storage wallet to hold your bitcoins.
2. If you are earning bitcoins from various methods like signature campaigns or trading activities or Gambling, never use the same wallet address in all places. Never let your earnings go to a single place.
3. Never publicly display your main wallet address to anyone and never use it in any other purpose.
4. Always use a licensed version of operating system and Internet Security package. Keep both up to date.
5. Never trust anyone in the online market.

These are 5 basic steps that I follow in order to keep my bitcoins safe. Hope this helps!

Of course you should be scared. Wallets containing Bitcoin is so prone to hacking because they only exist in digital world. You can see the address of transaction in blockchain but you cannot track the one who did the hacking. Therefore, once you got hacked there is nothing you can do.

While it's always a good idea to check if the website in question has HTTPS, it's not a complete safeguard from getting phished.
Certificates can be forged, hackers can trick you into thinking that you're on the correct website, though usually you can notice pretty easily if you're not on the correct website.

That said, I wouldn't use an online wallet to store any significant amounts of Bitcoins.

Honestly I do get scared too you know. Knowing that I store my coins in an online wallet for a short time.
But also I agree to everyone here saying that in order to keep your coins safe, use an offline wallet or a hardwallet. Or use those that have private keys.
Unless you forgot your keys or you have shared it to others. Surely, your coins have high possibility of being at risk to hackers if that is your concern. Or in other instances, you trust a stranger with your coins as investment without any background checks or security of a return.

There is a lot of safety precautions that you can do for you to protect your bitcoin, first avoid visiting website that are untrusted or that usually offers big earnings from nothing. You can also try to use a physical wallet to keep your coins and atleast protect it from phishing website and other malware that can get your wallet credentials.

If you are holding a lot then i suggest you buy hardware wallet, pay a little bit for a far better security for your investment. Also it's hard to crack a bitcoin wallet as long as your computer isn't contaminated by malware or you enter the seed in phising site. If somehow your btc gets hacked, then nothing can be done about it, you can't get it back and you can only blame yourself for not securing it well enough.

Make sure that you have the highest security standards which is being recommended by your wallet provider and don't be naive at all when you get emails claiming to be from your wallet provider telling you to login into your account. Enable 2FA security on your wallet as well.

Once your wallet or your BTC was already hacked you can't do anything about it as the process is irreversible and you will never know who got your BTC. What you should do is to avoid this event to happen to your wallet or BTC. As they say prevention is better than cure. Avoid going to websites that are bitcoin related if you really don't know that website. If youo are not into trading and are just keeping your BTC for the future better yet delete your wallet and just keep your seed for future retrieval.

There wouldn't be anything you can do if your wallet or btc is already hacked. The best you can do is try to avoid this from happening. There are lots of wallet/apps/sites that offer secure storage although, you must be very cautious whenever you open it. The best to do is to only open your wallet in a separate device or PC, that is solely dedicated to wallet transactions.

Be wise and smart, never ever give out this kind of information in primis then, take all the precaution to keep your coins safe (you got already many great advices in this topic).
Hardware wallet it's the way to go, even better if you can put it in a bank safe but really, do not shout that you have a lot of money, there are a lot of greedy people around.

you should be very afraid.

And being afraid will help you accomplish what? Nothing at all. Instead of being afraid,  you should start doing your research. It's good that OP did.

To OP:
I know that you've been hearing a lot of things about people having their wallets hacked. But it's all because of their own negligence. It's possible that their computer was already hacked even before they have generated their wallet. It's possible that someone (in his home) has access to his computer and is also a bitcoin user and they got the bitcoins. Remember, in your own house is most likely where you'd find the thief (in life in general, not just in bitcoins).

If you are not hacked by now, then probably you are not hacked at all and you're just overthinking things. Because if you were the hacker, you wouldn't wait for a little long when you hacked a bitcoin address because the person might sell out some of his coins. You're not going to wait for that person to have more bitcoins, you just hack it right away.

If you got hacked, you can't do anything. The only indication that you got hacked is when your bitcoins are already gone, right? You and I know that bitcoin's transactions are not reversible and that doesn't change even when you have a lot of bitcoins.

As long as you are using hardware wallets or hot wallets, there is nothing to be scared off. Use trezor or nano ledger s in storing your bitcoins especially if that is many bitcoins so that you will not lose it or you will not be hacked. Going into phishing sites is one way to stole or hack your coins so beware of the websites you are entering especially if they request your wallet address.

Hackers have nothing to worry about, as long as you take care of your keys, don't click on the links from strangers, and those suspicious emails, don't click. Bitcoin is more than a few wallets to store, so it will be safe

If you have a decent or huge amount of bitcoins and you want to still use online wallets, the use those with 2 factor authentication. Make sure to keep your private key secured and stay away from suspicious sites. But the better choice would be to use a hard wallets like trezor.

You should be scared of hackers. Remember to  take care of your private keys and never give it to anyone.
I think the safest wallet is offline wallets such as desktop wallet, usb or put it in paperwallet.
website wallet are prone to hackers and phishing,
always put some extra security to your wallet like enabling 2FA  and google authenticator so bitcoins will be safe. :)

Unfortunately many users report that they are hacked and that their coins are stolen, and most of them use online wallets-but recently many users report they desktop (Electrum) wallet are hacked.Only way to pretect BTC is to move it from hot wallets of any type and create paper wallet/cold storage-but most effective way is hardware wallet since you can use it every day and your coins will be safe.

What I would recommend to anyone who wants to protect coins is to check some of hardware wallets on this Black Friday,I just got e-mail that Ledger Nano S price will go down by 21%.

You should take all possible precautions to prevent this from happening. Once it happens there is not much you can do. Don't hold large amouonts on online wallets. Keep your private keys safe. Double check everything. Be a bit paranoid about those things :)

You can do something about it. You can enable phone verifaction and only use your bitcoin wallet on a safe new installed computer. Never use that computer for something else just for bitcoin only. This will make hackers have a hard time hacking in to your computer. You should spread maybe your bitcoins in other wallets, because if they hack one you can have still a lot of bitcoins.

If your wallet has been hacked basically you cannot do anything, Bitcoin transactions are irreversible. But just in case you need to change wallet just to be safe because you might be a victim of phising.

You don't need to be scared but you need to be vigilant specially if you have a lot of coins on your wallet.

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

If you know and aware to some of the effective obvious ways to protect your precious coins then you are good to go. Sometimes hacked bitcoin (by individual users) are because of human error and not because of the whole bitcoin network and system itself.

Just be relax and comfortable since too much worrying might lead to an overacting action on which you may didn't noticed that you already doing a wrong thing to protect your bitcoins. There are already lots of responses here that can give you an insight on ways to secure your coins.

Hope that you understand some of the points here.

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

Although chances are low to get your coins back, it's still worth it to do investigation. If you are storing on offline wallets, try to analyzed the situation before the hacking scenario and take notes of all instances. On the other hand, if you are storing on web wallets, then it's depend on how it was loss, maybe because you have some errors or the site itself robbed* you.

Just be sure to spread out your bitcoins to multiple wallets. Keep everything save in several external drives.  I even go an extra step and use encrypted USB's.

If you're really paranoid than you could use an old desktop/laptop that is not connected to the internet in combination to sign transactions offline. Then you also need an online wallet to create unsigned transactions and to broadcast the signed transaction to the network. This is very safe setup for holding large amount of Bitcoin.

just keep your mouth shut (if you have a lot of bitcoin). Most people on here dont hold many coins ( i saw in a thread a while back) but those that have a shitload of bitcoin mostly remain silent about their stash. This is one way to keep from being a hackers target.

Keeping your mouth shut is rule number one when it comes to your Bitcoin wealth, but that doesn't mean you're safe from all threats coming from the internet. Even if you browse through well known sites (news sites, web shops, forums, etc) your system might end up getting infected. People quite often only focus on not clicking links, not opening emails they don't know/expect, not download anything, etc, but they ignore that browsing through websites is enough to get infected. I have experienced this once with a very popular news site, and that while I am extremely paranoid when it comes to my overall PC security. Good thing is that nothing is stored on my system since I use a hardware wallet as cold storage. I just secure erased my hdd and installed a fresh copy of Windows. No damage caused.

That's a great advice as greed is your greatest enemy. If you keep telling everyone how much you got someone may try to take it from you, you just never know.
That's why when you're keeping money at home it's best not to have a big, expensive safe. A hole in the wall behind a tile is a much safer place to keep money because every alarm can be disabled and every safe can be cracked, but you can't steal what you can't see.
That said, to a hacker you're just one of billions Internet users, he can't find you and he can't know how many coins you're holding until you point him in the right direction yourself.

Yes, I think its normal to be scared specially if you have a lot of bitcoin in your wallet, but the key to secure your bitcoin is your carefulness. Hackers will only access your wallet through phishing sites and through your private key, so you have to keep that in mind. Also use a wallet that has a lot of security features in it.

You don't have to worry if you are just holding your bitcoin in you wallet. It cannot be hacked remember that. There's a difference between hacking and scamming.  Maybe they're just being scammed not hacked. Nowadays you should be careful on transferring your btc to other btc wallet. The most famous scamming now is fishing so be careful.

This is true, other than that, you won't be hacked unless you have a famous name in the community or you are known to have so many BTC, but if you are in the cold storage or wallet that is really safe, for example electrum, then they can't hacked it easily bro. What I mean is this is one of the main features of BTC "SECURITY", if someone can break the system, then this will be a chaos and everyone will be selling all their coins.
Firsts things first is that we must know how cryptography is so safe that there is no technology today that can break the system, or hacked the system.

And yes, Trezor and paper is one of the safest, just have a vault in your house to have extra security, especially if you have 10 BTC or up.

IF you can't afford a cold storage then buy some Anti-Virus, because it is another layer of protection from harmful sites and phishing sites. ALways backed up your seeds or write it up on paper just to be sure. Your computer is a machine and you should be responsible on whatever may happen on your computer. Treat it more than your wallet and never ever trust anyone to have your seeds.

Don't trust online drives (Google, microsoft). The government might be watching you (they have eagleeye or prism project) and its dangerous to have all your files online) Write it down on paper and provide a copies and lock it on a vault at home. The best security is your own home.

As you hold it for long investment, If i become you, yes i should worried. What i will to do
- Don't save all your BTC in 1 wallet only. Divide your BTC in some wallet, offline wallet, paper wallet, desktop, razor, etc. There is still any chance hackers can takeover your BTC that you save on your computer or web wallet online only.
- Save all information in secure place, means you need safe-box to place your paper-wallet, hardware wallet likes trezor, ledger, etc that works for your desktop backup wallet and password.
- Giving information to your suppose or family, how to using and access it.

It is always scary to be hacked or have the chance of being hacked. It can happen to anyone especially if they accidentally click on phishing links or get scammed online. But if you are careful enough there is no way that anyone can target you for owning lots of btc because it would be difficult for them to check individual people's wallets. They can though track you if say you are very active buyer and seller in certain forums or market places and they see that you are using the same wallet all the time. But even then, they would have to hack the system of the people who made your wallet so if thay happens its not only you but everyone owning a wallet in that platfotm.

Hackers are really worth being scared of, they can waste ones effort in a nick of time. Almost everone here is hacker conscious. One just have to do every thing possible to be safe from them. Like- not revealing your private key, be sure you are responding at the right channels, verify information properly before you respond, also storing your coin for too long could be dangerous. Among many others.

There is nothing to be scared of. Your wallet cannot penetrate easily by the hackers and I'm very confident of that but hackers found a way to do that, through "phishing". So you should be very careful in filling up some forms in websites or apps because if you typed your username and password of your wallet on those sites/apps, then hackers will also know it and may now robbed the earnings inside your wallet. Another tip, you should keep your username and password secret, keep your private keys and never let others know about it. Some users also divided their earnings into several wallets just in case when one of his wallet was hacked then at least he still have some earnings left on the other wallet. (it's up to you if you will try also)

Knowing the fact that hackers are spreading out there it must not hinders you to withdraw your earnings, just be careful always and everything is gonna be fine. :)

There is no need to worry about the hackers. some of them who have been hacked caused by their negligence.
as long as you avoid phishing websites that ask for your private key wallet and secure your account with 2FA verification, they can not hack your wallet.
or you can also split some of your BTC into some wallet like paper wallet, blockchain wallet, wallet hardware, or even desktop wallet. and remember 2FA verification is a must.

You have nothing to do after your BTC gets hacked. You can only cry and regret by thinking about your mistakes.

Those who got hacked by hackers are just because they kept the door open somehow.
Otherwise they wouldn’t get hacked by any means if they had taken necessary precautions.

Now as you are scared then why don’t you take precautions before getting hacked?
If you are using web wallet, just switch to desktop wallet. If desktop wallet doesn’t give you relief, just switch to hardware wallet if you can afford.

Always use 2fa for better safety measures.
Never download any thing from unpleasant places.
Never click any suspicious links; it may come to you by email, forum, web, messenger etc.
Try to figure out which is phishing site before entering your info, username, password. Check the domain, ssl very carefully.

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?
As long as you are holding it correctly you shouldn't have any problems. And what I mean by holding correct is, that you are using a secure offline wallet and are pretty sure that your PC is virus free. Don't use online wallet, and if you suspect your PC isn't secure you might want to get a hardware wallet or simply use an paper wallet for cold storage.

If you actually do have a lot of BTC you should not be advertising that on here that you do. People will target your BTC address and try to find places it was used. I would suggest sending some of your funds to different wallets and holding them there. It is never a good idea to keep everything on one wallet, as that can be stolen if someone finds out your privatekey/address.

Always have multiple wallets to reduce this risk, keep them safe and secure, use anti-virus and firewalls. Don't download suspicious programs, and don't even use programs on your PC that you store the BTC on really, run a virtual machine or something.

I am afraid I have a web-based wallet Blockchain.info. Should I get some other wallet.

You are at zero risk of being hacked if you either keep your BTC offline, or have a password that is long and unknown by ANYONE.

I am using a web-based wallet Blockchain, I am sure you have heard of it.
The thing is I trust trusted this because it is a genuine company and I can generate a paper wallet also through it.
But now I think I have to upgrade to the Desktop wallet.

Yes. There are a lot of user complaining about that, and there is some couple of cases that someone's account got hacked, and they even tell their story on this forum. It is indeed a scary story.
But one thing for sure, you should be scary about anything that can threaten your bitcoin even you only have a little, do not start to worry when you already have a lot of it.
In my opinion, the best and most comfortable way to secure your bitcoin is using a hardware wallet. There are some that quite popular, like Trezor or Ledger Nano S. If you can have a lot of bitcoin, you shouldnt have a money trouble for buying this kind of wallet.
You should not focus for searching the answer for your last question, as none you can do if that happens. The best way is prevention, before it happens.

If you have lot of BTC in your waller you need to take much precautionary measures to save yourself from malicious group of hackers or fishers which might gain access to your wallet by hacking your private keys.So its better you opt for 2FA security meausers and be sure that you don't have malwares or junks in your software where is your wallet. Prefer dekstop wallet over web wallet.Always keep a check over this and ensure this don't happen.

Security would be the main concern on here on which each wallet holder should really be responsible off on keeping their keys or informations that are important to access the wallet.Once its being kept on the right or secure place then i dont see that we should worry bit too much.If its keep from others awareness then you would be always safe the thing you should be aware is on the possible ways which hackers would lure you in. Like phishing and malwares.

I think instead of being scared you should be aware of how a hacker can attack you, a hacker will always seek of a weak point in your security and will exploit it until it achieve its goal. If your wallet has a lot of bitcoins then it will more likely to be targeted by them though its quite impossible to brute force hack a wallet.

Yes, most of the hacks take place through the usage of public WiFi. When something becomes more valuable surely people tries to evade and get it with ease. Same is the truth with bitcoin, hackers roam around and try the best. If we're good in handling the wallet and careful while operating none can hack us.

Today bitcoin is on the hotspot of the hacker. Maybe we should be worried about our bitcoin wallets but being scared is an exaggerated. Hackers are already their, even government sites have reported that they are hacked by hackers, meaning to say its already happen so if we're gonna be scared then we can't think the better solutions to just avoid our wallet for being hacked. We should be aware and keep our wallet secured enough.

If it does have a lot of worry Btc or it must exist and the fear in the presence of a hacker, but it all depends on the person must be smart to manage it. if personally I am better to hold and be tabled for the future and if in doubt some of it, because the hackers will try in any way to have what they want to have what is related to the coin or Btc of high value because no one is not maybe for him .. and can also make a very secure security with account or technological tools in use, I hope there is no hacker for Btc if indeed there will be many people who in disadvantage ..

No you dont have to be scared of anything unless you are not doing wrong or bad. or you do have much knowledge about your doing and if you know how to avoid losing your coins so theres no reason to be scared of something. All you can do is to focus keeping your coins in your good hands and use it on good purpose and if you have that a lot of coins theres no reason that you must try to enter a site that you doesnt know too much because maybe that will lead to losing your coins. you can lose your coins only if you are careless and attempting to access scam sites or untrusted sites of bitcoins.

Well don't be scared if your bitcoin wallet that you are using is trusted however, if you have a lot of amount bitcoin and you are not comfortable on your wallet then try yo have a offline wallet. Another way is make sure that your current wallet must have alot of confirmation before you access and maximize the use of security if that certain wallet.

There are instances that if you lost your phone, there's a chance that the hacker can find your private key in it. There's also one who had his phone repaired, but it looks like the one who fixed it stole his private key as well. That's two possible scenarios that I can think of with regards to phone hacking.

You need a hardware wallet if you are going to invest huge amount of bitcoin like Nano or Trezor. Its up to us on how we keep and protect our private key so that so can minimized the potential of losing your bitcoin. For wallet suggestion I urge to look at this website,

No, multiple wallets is not in an option because it is difficult to manage them all. I have tried it before.

You should be scared if someone knows about your passwords and accounts. Those things should only be private to you. Do not give that to any of your friends or families unless you trust them. If youre still worried about your bitcoin, i recommend you to use strong security wallets that can lessen the risk of your bitcoin to be hack.

Also keep in mind that there have been recent social engineering hacks where high profile bitcoin holders have lost their coins because the hackers managed to transfer their mobile numbers to their own handsets. This was always accomplished by social engineering the phone company, with the hackers impersonating the owners and convincing the phone company they lost their phone and getting them transfer the service to a new phone.

If they managed to transfer your phone number to them, they could password reset your email, gain access to your cloud accounts, trading accounts, online storage, etc. basically make a complete mess out of your life. You need to protect your BTC from this attack vector, especially if you backup data on your phone to the cloud. Your phone may be physically safe but your line and cloud backups are not.

Edit: For example, if you have a gmail account with 2FA google authenticator and a backup phone-number, the 2FA can be disabled and the password reset by using the backup phone.

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

I am just hodling it(BTCs) for like a week or something because after that I am going to invest in an ICO.
What really happened was I had invested my ETH at an ICO but the people returned me the money I had invested in BTC. They told me that the crowdfunding was not enough and they will restart the ICO again in about a week or something till that time I just want to "hodl" it safe with no hesitation.

For me you should not be afraid to the hackers , if you have a lot of bitcoins, And just afraid when all of your bitcoin will loss, And We must be secure in our wallets and do not spread to unreliable people and you should also be updated about the site. What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

Thats the wrong question to ask. Once your wallet or your BTC get "hacked" its already too late.
The question you should ask yourself (or us) is how you can avoid your wallet getting hacked (Wallets can be "hacked", BTC itself not). The key to this is to use the right wallet.
First, if you have lot of btc's you should spend <100$ for a hardware wallet. With such a HW wallet your coins will stay safe, even if your PC is infected with malware.
A HW wallet is pretty handy in everydays usage. If you only want to keep your coins without spending them in the next few years and are too greedy for a <100$ HW wallet,
you could use a paper wallet. A paper wallet is basically just a private-/public keypair generated and printed completely offline in several copies, saved in different places.
Once you want to spend your coins you can easily just import the private key into a wallet of your choice (Your PC will have to be free of malware for this not leading to a loss of your funds).

I would say not really at all. No one's going to know that you individually will have a lot of coins in your wallet. Like people have said on this topic, only way to get your coins is to have your private key. I would be more afraid of phishing scams/emails rather than hacks.

You're going to be fine.

Since you have a big investment in bitcoin, you are one of the people endangered in the eye of hackers. Your risk from hackers is highly potential, but you have nothing to worry about; since bitcoin provides all day or 24/7 security to secured your account free from hackers and the government support it by a criminal law that they will do immediate action once it happen. It’s the obligation of the company and the management, as well as the government to secure our investment and entire world free from scammers. It’s also your duty to be carefully enough in every action you made. You should always think smart and wisely once you give your personal information so that you account/investment if free from any bad people.

Yes, you should be scared on them. When people sees your potential in earning hackers make moves on trying to snatch your money. In order for that you have to be as wise as them. Change your password with numbers, letters and symbols. Make sure that all your account is in private which only you can see it.

If your wallet is hacked, then you will not do anything unfortunately. But you can protect your wallet. For better protection, you should be a bit paranoid: do not connect to unverified networks, maintain the correct password policy, etc.

You have to beware of hackers all the time, your Bitcoin wallet will be cut off from the Internet, out of touch with the Internet, and it will be safe to hide your private keys.

You should store your BTC on cold and hardware wallets. That's the best way to protect your funds if you care of it so much. And don't use web wallets for big amounts of BTC.

If you are earning bitcoins from various methods like signature campaigns or trading activities or Gambling, never use the same wallet address in all places. Never let your earnings move into only a single place and never keep all bitcoins in a single wallet. Always diversify. Use a mix of hardware wallet, Offline or online wallets, cold storage wallet to hodl your bitcoins.

good suggestion, saving bitcoins in separate wallet. i will suggest to using Ledger and Trezor, this is both hardware wallet, means it will not connect online always, but yes you need connect internet when will using it. But so far using hardware wallet in safe computer would be good option for me.

Hackers will target anyone with low security measures in place thats why we need to make it a habit not to feel lazy to enable secondary security feature like 2fa and avoiding using open networks which might expose us to hackers and dishing out of email addresses linked to our crypto wallets should come to a stop if we want to protect ourselves from hackers.

the only real way of hacking is getting the private key. you should not be worried if you hold your btc on a paper wallet.
it is very close to impossible to retrieve it by chance.
all web, desktop and mobile wallets carry some risks and can be targets of hackers in many ways.

Its a caution to all members to be conscientious enough never to lose their private keys. Instead, save them offline by printing out or memorizing them to avoid the unfortunate incidence of being hacked. Do not also put all your eggs in one basket by saving your BTC in diverse wallets.

Which means if you have an accident and hit your head you forget your password - and then because you had an accident you lose all your money - and then you don't have money to pay for the hospital. Clearly this just makes Bitcoin even more dangerous when you think about it
what are you talking about is just a 1 in a million chance, The best I would recommend is either you remember the password or just use a Two Factors Authentication wallet which is one of the safest one.

When I first started collecting coins, this forum used to be full of threads in which users were lamenting about their coin stash getting stolen by the hackers. If he had those coins now, then they could have been worth close to $250 million (including the price of Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin Gold).

If your wallet or BTC gets hacked, chances of getting back your coins is extremely low. Precaution is better than cure. You better take steps to protect your fund rather then suffering later. Use hardware wallets to store your coins. Never reveal any kind of sensitive information about your wallet to anyone.

I'd suggest to get desktop wallet as you have more controls of your private key, just make sure your PC are clean from malware and junks.

If you're really serious about security you can get hardware based wallet like Trezor or paper wallet, that should be enough.

Its very hard for your account to be hack if you are very cautious with your move about your bitcoin wallet. The only way to hack your bitcoin is if you input your private key in a phising website or input your private information such as password. If you are only hodling and dont have any plan to make a transaction oftentimes is you use a hardware wallet.

It will happen to anyone if they are not really careful we all know that it is not easy to breakthrough the security of your wallet, the easy is to manipulate you or you are just giving your private wallet to the hacker, like phishing that is the basic one because mostly hackers are following you finding contacts and information to penetrate you thats why if you are weak and not finding it early then you can give your coins and bitcoins to the hacker

NO you shouldn't be scared of hackers if you have a lot of Bitcoin because if you know that your account is secured and you are the only one you know it there's no chance to hack it but if your bitcoin or your wallet get hacked just report it so that both of you will suffer your account can be banned and he/she can't use it.

Well, what I say my opinion is the best and most comfortable way to secure your bitcoin is using a hardware wallet. There are some that quite popular once like Trezor or Ledger Nano S. If you can have a lot of bitcoin, you should not  have a money trouble for buying this kind of wallet. You should not focus for searching the answer for your last question, as none you can do if that happens. The best way is prevention is always better than seeking for solution after it have happened.

I do know a lot people wich has a big ammount of bitcoin and they have the coins outside any exchange and out of the radar of hackers, ledger and others ways to store their wallets, some of them had printed the seed as well, the best way to stay protected is choose a reliable wallet and dont use the computer for nothing else. Hackers usually are getting acess because we surf into the web and they know those soo they are creating the virus to get easy money, but with 2fa, a strong password and dont open suspected websites will let you play with your coins without issue.

If you are really hodling a lot of coin I would suggest it is better to do some precautionary measures to safe guard your coin. Keeping it in an online wallet is the most vulnerable way to keep it. I would suggest using a paper or a hardware wallet is best to secure it.

Once your Bitcoin was already hacked you can't do anything about it and you can consider it as lost, so preventing it to be hacked is the best move to do.

It is every owner's responsibility to protect their bitcoin. Since bitcoin's transactions are irreversible we should always protect our wallet because once your bitcoin was already transferred to another address it is impossible to get it back unless you can identify who the owner is and file some legal actions.

If you have a lot of bitcoins in your wallet and your wallet got hacked. There's nothing you can do but to pray for the hacker to give it back to you. But,  there are ways to prevent your wallet get hacked by hackers. For now, dont worry about about those people who had their account hacked. Just think about your own safety first. First, avoid clicking unknown links or links that seems suspicious, before you proceed on clicking it, aks some members or get help from members here in the forum if they knew that link. This is by avoiding phishing sites that may stole your account once you click it. And the second one is, never post in public, give, and tell your wallet's private key to anyone. Only choose those people you thrust the most for keeping it. But sometimes those people you thrust the most also betrays you. That's why keep your private keys for yourself. This is by avoiding your wallet to get hack or stole your bitcoins.

I have btc stored in electrum.  I do have a password i put in it if you want to send btc.  Thus if you send btc, it ask for your password.  However, i did not put a password there for the encryption of the btc balance.  I also used electrum litecoin where i keep litecoin and when i click on it, i have to put the password in order to view my litecoin balance and history etc.

To those that use electrum, do you encrypt your wallet where you have to put a password on it before you can view how much btc is showing on balance?  Because if you don't, when you click on electrum wallet, it shows your btc balance etc.

I use windows.  What precautions can i take since i use a computer for it?  For example, i asked on a thread where i said if someone had access to my computer, could they install a keylogger or malware or program and then hack my electrum?  I was told yes.  This is true right?  I feel it has to be true since i read about people who download the wrong electron cash and then got their btc stolen... so that means if someone computer savy got your laptop, then you have no more bitcoin?

People say use cold storage or hardware wallet.  What exactly is cold storage?  The thing is what if you use electrum a lot to send btc to and from etc.  Would cold storage work for that?  About the hardware wallet, you mean trezor or the ledger right?  So if you had a hardware wallet, its impossible for someone to hack your bitcoin wallet?  So if you have trezor, you dont need electrum anymore?  So if you download the wrong electron cash on your computer but use trezor, your bitcoin are safe?   But what if someone had your computer and your trezor?  I assume they still need to know something for your trezor and if so what is that?  Is it a password or a number code?

Now let say you dont have a hardware wallet and just use electrum or exodus or your computer.  Well if you put a password on your computer at startup, is that enough or not?  Like if you put a password for windows before startup, its the one where you have to type it before you can use your computer... is that enough?  I did hear its easy to get by that and the windows password is useless.  Is that true or false?  I also heard people mention bitlocker or something like that.  Can someone explain this?  So having bitlocker would protect your computer information if someone had access to your computer?  Thus if they had physically possession of your computer, they would not be able to view your computer without a password?  Because i want to know what is the way to make sure no one can log into your computer if they were to say have access to it.  I assume this is the number 1 thing you could do to protect yourself besides not clicking on links etc?

Also there are tons of links and signatures here from poster etc.  Is there a very good chance some of these links posters post here are keyloggers/malware where clicking it could mean your bitcoin wallet such as electrum get hacked?

You should not worry if you have taken enough security precautions while holding your Bitcoins. However, consider the following checklist while making sure about security.

1) Maintain Offline Wallets - You can either use securely generated paper wallet or buy reputed hardware wallets like Trezor to keep your funds offline. It doesn't matter to hackers if you are holding your funds online and maintaining all security guidelines because generally there is a possibility of hacking of the database on the server side where you can't do anything about it.

2) Diversify - Try to diversify your funds and make sure that you are not keeping a high amount of Bitcoin in any single wallet. It will help you to spread the risk among multiple wallets.

3) Backup Options - Make sure that you are maintaining multiple backup copies stored at safe yet various places having no unauthorised access. In case of hardware wallet, you can keep seed keys secure.

Its depend if where wallet do you put to store your coin, i think before you collect bitcoin, first you should search about wallet want to use, then pick a strong password also dont tell to anyone your personal info. There are a lot trusted wallet to choose but just be careful when you pick wallet.

No you should not, Just make sure to always take precautions and do not click the unknown links that are being sent to you by unknown users because it might be a phishing site. Phishing sites is the only way for you to get hack because the password and private keys of wallet is incripted.

Yes, I think that is the best option because all others are suggesting the same.

Don't hold large amouonts on online wallets. Keep your private keys safe. Double check everything. Be a bit paranoid about those things :)
The thing is I have to, because it is just for a short time I a keeping the BTC, after 3days I have other plans for it as I am investing on an ICO. ;)

I think you should be. We have a lot of reports of bitcoin being hacked everywhere, although there are no really solid evidences for such happening, what are you going to do if ever if happens to you (with your lots of btc). If I am in your place, Id rather not stock my bitcoins in one wallet, try to divide it in many wallets so if ever one wallet got hacked, at least not all of your btc is gone.

Oh it is not Bitcoin that is unsafe but rather it is a wallet that is unsafe (in case of WWW wallets) or the user's computer gets compromised. Or the user voluntarily discloses his or her password.

So Bitcoin is safe as a protocol. It may be unsafe how you handle your bitcoins

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

Before thinking of what you should do IF you get hacked, i think its more important to focus on securing your private keys so you won't be hacked in the first place. I don't think it's that easy to hack btc wallets and all you need to remember is to keep your private keys to yourself and make sure you don't give it to others. Or get paper and hard wallets since these have less no no chance at all of getting hacked.

In the world of Internet data security is the most important thing. Even if chances of being hacked, one must take steps to make his kind of information secure that is on the Internet.  Bitcoin is a very expensive digital asset.

It is about $9,500 the holder must be careful about its security. A strong password will definitely help but the most significant step is to not trust anyone and never give away your credentials whenever asked by any website.

It only depends on your wallet. If you are using a wallet that has been trusted by everyone like professional traders that are trading day by day then i think that it is enough already to become secured on your coins.

Dont be scared if you know you put your bitcoin in secure and safe wallet, even you have a lot or few of coins. Just stay away from promising wallet because they are scams, also dont tell to anyone your password or private information. Also you must have backup of your wallet, atleast you can get your coin anytime if something happen.

As long as you are safe you should be ok. Private keys have to be kept safe and be careful of phishing. There can always be a fear that wallets themselves are not safe but paranoia creeps in when you start to think too much about it all.

As per my acknowledgement hacker never know how much BTC particular wallet have within it. They always try to phishing user to get trapped. And once trapped can get whatever amount it have in it. Now its another part if hacker got big amount. But everyone who use web or any online wallet must have to take security measures against own wallet and keep them safe and secure.

If user holding big amount of BTC then

1) Don't put all eggs in basket
2) Keep wallet backup private, safe and secure
3) Never share own credentials to anyone or even online
4) Use desktop wallet with paraphrase
5) Keep your computer clean with reputed updated antivirus
6) Use Hardware wallet

These preventive measures can help to keep your Bitcoins more safe.

Precaution is better than cure. Always try to keep your account safe with 2FA Security and also try to keep your private key much more personal. Also if you have a huge amount of bitcoins, then you can store them in a offline wallet or paper wallet, etc. Securing your account much more as possible can keep yourself safe from hackers.

Of course you should be scared if you are holding bitcoins. hackers are looking for their victim to steal what ever you have in your wallet. You should be very careful when you are using internet and making any bitcoin transactions. Most hacking method hackers are using Phishing method to steal your information especially your private key or password of your crypto wallet.

I strongly recommend that use multiple wallet to store your bitcoins so that if the hacker hacked your wallet he cannot there will be bitcoin left into your other wallet. You can also use hardware wallet like Trezor, ledger nano or paper wallet. Always be vigilant for any suspicious malware when you are using your computer.

Paper Wallet and Hardware wallet shall be the best choice, and if using web wallet or exchange wallet better apply or adopt for extra security.
And I also agree, better to divide your Bitcoins or whatever coins you are holding into several wallets.
If you are taking too many precautions, then you can be calm and tension free, but better not let it slip out of your mind.

After a long time, I decided to buy a Ledger Nano S which is quite good. Honestly, I think I should have bought a Trezor. I don't use anything beside Bitcoin, Litecoin and Ethereum so it wouldn't be an issue. The most secure way would be to use an old laptop with some linux distribution installed on it. It's easier to download a malware on Windows than on Linux.

If your bitcoin gets stolen there is nothing to do, that is why most of your efforts needs to be directed at prevention rather than the cure, that way the risk of losing your bitcoin goes lower, in my opinion every single person that has an amount of bitcoin greater than the cost of a hardware wallet should get one.

I will not be scared in that kind of situation because after I registered to myEther wallet I saved my private key in a USB and I also write down my private key in a notebook and locked it down in a security vault in which can accessed by my finger prints only. I also invest myself in the newest anti virus and anti hacking software so that's make my worries about that situation goes away.

Precautions are better to get rid of anything is what I believe.
If we are careless then we are keeping ourself in trouble, I recommend you to maintain cold storage wallets, ledger Nano S, secure your account with 2FA verification authentication, avoid phishing websites, avoid public access and clean your history. Hackers always exists so prevent it by securing with proper authentication. Ensure you prioritize never clicking any suspicious links; it may come to you by email, forum, web, messenger etc. Do figure out which is phishing site before entering your info, user name, password. Check the domain, ssl very carefully.

You shouldn't be scared. Fear of hackers is going to lead to you getting your Bitcoin stolen, for sure. Instead, you should do a lot of research into how to keep your Bitcoins safe and secure from hackers. It really isn't all that complicated. There are many ways to keep them safe and the number one method by far is creating a paper wallet.

As long as you're not exposing your private key. Then your bitcoin is in safe wallet, nothing to worry about. It's all about carefulness, think before you click. Be aware of what you're trying to download. There's something there that we didn't know (virus).

With the rising value of bitcoin, many hackers now have added incentive to commit their crimes as they wish. Protect yourself by keeping your bitcoin portfolio in a private wallet where you only have access to your private wallet. Keep small quantities on an exchange  when you have to trade.

No I am not scared that hackers might be able to access my wallet where I stored a lot of BTC because I am fully aware of the ways in which could jeopardized my data security and in addition to that I have my most precious private key stored in a room guarded 24 hours by a dozen of security personnels which is inside a very secured vault where it required a retinal scan and password to be able to open the vault. I will certainly do all of that safety precautions if I really have a lot of BTC.

Yes even if you are very sure that your system is protected you still need to be aware that anytime someone will hack you for that you need to keep on making sure that you are only visiting safe sites, installing non virus software, be aware on pishing sites and always changing your password from time to time to prevent hack.

The safest way is to keep it on a hardware wallet or on a offline pc , and keep a backup somewhere.

Seems like every website in the worldwide web were all phishing sites. Nothing can be trusted nowadays, since day one were the internet could generate a lot of cash by all means. I was wondering, why there are still a lot of people being victimized despite of warnings and exposes. Maybe, it's also their fault through their end. They might be not contented on what they have, still looking for other opportunities or ways to earn more cash. Fraudsters knows how to catch someones weakness and they will attack when and where they would be vulnerable, taking advantage of this will make innocent and greedy deceived, in the end, they will easily succeed.

not much to do after hacking. before you get hacked:
- secure your email account.
- use unique and powerful keywords for all online accounts.
- enable two-factor authentication.
- or you keep it in your hard wallet.

I think yes... I should be scared of hackers if I have a lot of bitcoins because we all know that hackers never stop in searching ways in how to access anyones private datas and hackers are also getting more sophisticated day by day. Since you have a lot of bitcoins then I would suggest you to invest yourself in the most up to date anti virus, anti malware and anti hacking software so you will have a greater chance against those hackers who will gonna rob you of all your hard earned bitcoins.

Minimum active user account, generally don't disturb them trying again and again till success. Please don't share your private key anyone.

I don't know about this, I think the main reason about some users being hacked was their wallets. I can't confirm if some wallet sites are secured, some maybe a victim of keyloggers and some watching eyes. Some hackers are not found on the net, sometimes you must be aware of your surroundings. You don't know what type of people are watching you

Store your bitcoins in an offline wallet. Once you keep your bitcoin in an offline wallet no one can access it but you. Most of the hacking incidents that you are hearing it happens majority with the online wallets. but once you store bitcoins in an offline wallet you are safe.

There is nothing that you can do if your Bitcoin wallet has been hacked. But in order to prevent it from hackers hacking your account, I strongly suggest that you need to have an updated Antivirus on your computer, secure the Home Network especially if you're using WIFI, don't open a suspicious email, if you are on a hotel, airport or in the coffeehouse, always use VPN and avoid website that is not secure.

^ Great advice...and don't forget or lose your password(s).

I would suggest for you to buy a physical wallet, one of those USB ones to be safe. If not, you can have multiple wallets dividing some of the BTC you have on them, it will cost some fees to send them but its better to be safe than sorry. Also, make sure you have enabled the two-factor authentication. On my iPhone I have it set so only using my finger print the wallet can release funds to other addresses.

The hardware wallet is the safest choice to store a tremendous amount of Bitcoin because it doesn't directly connect to the internet which is open a possibility of getting hacked, like the recent Electrum wallet vulnerability. It's essential to store it in an offline wallet and handle it with extra caution. Because of the technology of the crypto extremely secure, the money can be refunded if it getting hacked.

Ideally you should not keep too much bitcoin. The first reason is the price of bitcoin is very erratic, do not know whether it will increase sharply or sharply in the future. So when you feel profitable from investing, sell them immediately and retain a bitcoin. The second reason is that if you do not know how to get the best security for your bitcoin, hackers will take advantage of that to steal your bitcoin. You better buy cool credit cards.

If you don't have just "dust" of Bitcoins, I really recommend you to get yourself a hardware wallet, like Trezor or Nano Ledger S. It doesn't matter how much you pay attention, you could always make a mistake, and a virus or a trojan or whatever could steal your Bitcoins. With a hardware wallet you are protected against this risk. Otherwise do yourself a cold storage wallet. You will find information online on how to do that.

Of course you will have to worry about your bitcoins especially if its a lot. I myself got hackd this week. I didn't add 2fa to my account because I am confident that it won't get hacked since I barely open it or anything. I think i opened it like 3 times since I created that account. I just use my main account and send my bitcoins there to save it. And then one day, bam! My balance is lost. If i had 2fa enabled that would've been prevented.

I learned it the hard way. Always be careful and dont be confident.

Hey all got a question.  If you don't have a nano ledger s and store bitcoin in a desktop wallet like say electrum or armory, do you have to make precautions like if you are buying a wireless mouse or usb or external hard drive to make sure you buy from a legit site like amazon as oppose to say ebay or 3rd party from amazon?  Because the wireless mouse or usb/external hard drive could possibly be refurbished or used etc and connecting it to your computer could possibly give a virus?  Or its advertised as new and been used?  I read online that a mouse is too small to up a virus but if its a wireless mouse, that would be different because of signals?

But a usb or external hard drive certainly could have a virus?  Curious about a wireless mouse.

I had not thought about this until now.

They way bitcoin operates is secure, the insecure thing is where you store them. The device is hackable but the algorithm of bitcoin not. So you can minimize the risks of being hacked, the best way is to store them in hardware wallet, or in a device always offline.

There's really nothing to be scared about if you have done all of the precautionary/security measures in order to protect your BTC. Those who were hacked and are now complaining are those who were simply careless. They may have been fond of clicking on unknown/suspicious phishing sites which gave hacker access to their accounts/wallets. This should be a learning for all of us.

There is almost nothing you can do if your wallet got hacked and your BTC's got stolen. The transaction may be traced and identified. But I'm pretty sure the culprits won't bother giving back what they took from you. So all we can do to prevent being hacked is to be vigilant and do whatever we need to do to safekeep our investments.

You should be scared of hackers if you're an idiot, not if you have a lot of BTC. There's no way for anybody to hack your BTC address, just by knowing the address. They would need to compromise your computer, and this would only be possible if they know who is the owner of that address (ergo YOU). So if you're careful, and keep a low profile, and don't make yourself a target, you'll be fine.

There are lots of sites that may steal your information that can be used to hack your wallet or some phising sites that offers a great offer but then they will just steal your account. There are really lots of hackers these days even with some small amount of btc can also be a target. So I suggest that we just have to be safe for our accounts to prevent such hacking incidents.

Of course, hackers nowadays can hack everything, which is why we should be using hardwallets so that our bitcoins will be protected from these hackers. Also it is suggested to use metamask extension to protect your browser from getting into phishing sites or potential websites. As far as i can see they have emailed me some phishinh sites, but the metamask extension has saved my ass from getting hacked.

If you have a lot of BTC, you should be scared of hackers, because basically we play online and it's very vulnerable to hacking. Therefore, you should be wary of hack attacks. Prevention is better than fixing. So in anticipation use wallet hardware to protect the bitcoin you have. Really, whatever the price of wallet hardware is not a problem if it's for more secure.

If you hold a lot of BTC then I would recommend getting two hardware wallets and downloading a software wallet to your phone/desktop.

Set up alerts to watch your addresses with blockchain.info here - http://blog.[Suspicious link removed]/2016/05/31/how-to-use-watch-only-addresses/

That way you'll get an email alert if your account is ever compromised and you can try and prevent the hack.

Never share your private key with anyone and use 2FA on everything possible!

The probability to lost your bitcoins, stole your private key and account. Much better if you use hardwallet so they can't easily hacked your btc. So you need to be careful in what you do and say because if you do mistake of it even a little one they will lost everything you got now. Don't trust anyone when you talked about it because this is a huge thing that you need to care and protect.

You can lose your BTC for example at the stock exchange if it is hacked or if you are logging in through phishing sites or if you do not correctly store passwords and do not fully protect yourself.
No problems whatsoever if you are careful when working with exchanges and purses, store passwords on paper, work best through Linux.

You shouldn't tell  about your private, keep it in secret.  Devide your coins to different wallets with different private keys. If you have a lot of BTC, use wallet hardware to protect the bitcoin you have.

I think that having a lot of bitcoin does not mean you should be scared of having the bitcoin stolen from you by hackers and other people who might try to have your data stolen. To me it might be scary knowing that you would have that kind of money around. However, I do still believe that it also needs and means that you should be more careful and should kore look forward to having a much more safer data privacy and to ensure complete awarness on the internet

It's recommended that you use cold wallet to store bitcoin. It would be safer. It's the safest way to go now.
In addition, it is recommended that you go to more than one wallet storage. This reduces the risk as much as possible.
please advise a reliable website where you can download cold wallet. I'm new to this, and I don't want to screw it up.

They say prevention is still better than cure so before hackers can think new ways to hack then you should be think the other way around. The possibility of hackers steal your Bitcoin wallet could happen, you can not do anything if it has been interfered by hackers.
But before it happens, you have to make sure it will not happen.
You should save your private wallet well. Often do cleaning history and cookies.
If you save a lot of bitcoins, you should try using a hardware wallet to save most of it to make it more secure than storing BTC in the online wallet.
It will minimize the hacker's actions.

Yes you should, because the number one mistake people make is their inability to hold and protect their wallet private key which is the wallet seed, if you have many accounts there is a possibility that you might forget some of its password and if you are saving they key on your smart phone. to be safe and secured is to be secret about your wallet seed and password as much as possible.

The very definition of it was it was hacked, thus, you cant do anything about it. all that HArd earned BTC are all going to waste by being hacked by another. Once hacked, it will be transferred to his own personal wallet to be converted to FIAT to be used in his own benefits. To my own experience, some BTC of mine was hacked and due to this I was prompt to withdraw it into FIat every time the price would go up.

Yes, you should be scared since the eye of hackers are in your account. I think you should be careful enough in all informations that you will provide in order to protect your wallet from any threats  hacking.
Aside the company itis your duty to be careful in all actions that you will made.
Being cautious and being alert is a good thing. We live in a world where almost everything is done online. If you're not careful about the information you provide on the internet, it might someday have a negative impact on you. If we have a lot of BTC, I guess we better keep quiet. Never tell anyone orally or online. Hackers won't be after you if he doesn't know you have lots of coins. Hackers don't work carelessly, they work systematically.

Always be on your toes, don't just answer emails, click links or anything, always beware of those sites that you are going into. Another important thing is, secure a hardware wallet, and be careful of the people whom you will give your trust to. All these should be enough for you to ensure your Bitcoin's safety.

Do not store you private keys or passwords on a cloud storage. If necessary, write it on a notebook and also make sure it wont be lost or get wet. Do not trust anyone by sharing your private keys. Do not post also your private accounts on social media. Do not enter your account details or emails on unverified sites. Theres no need to be scared on holding BTC, we just need to be alert and wise. In case of suspicious events, report it immediately to the concerned authority.

You should not be afraid of hackers. You just have to be more careful and secure your password keys very well. Avoid phishing sites and websites that might infect your pc with malwares used by hackers to enter your computers.. I have friends who got hacked a month ago. Based on our opinion, some type of malware accidentally entered their pc without their knowledge, i think this happened due to their own negligence, they typed-in wrong websites and from there awaits the hacker to do their evil plans. Putting malwares into their computers that's how they got in and stole their holdings. That is why you should be aware of entering sites and double checking what you type or you might ended up like them.

There is important information about Blockchain and cryptography that needs to be known. If a wallet is created, it is almost impossible for the password to be broken, and if you lose the password, you will lose your wallet forever.
If you have Bitcoin, you can keep it in your own wallets. But there are a few things you should pay attention to. Fraudsters can not break your wallet. That's right. But it could infect your computer with a virus. It can play the information inside your computer. So you should not have your wallet on your personal computer. And do not save it to online connected devices.
There are also external wallets right now. We can call it Ledger. These are a little safer. You can keep the assets you have here.
The last thing you need to keep in mind: Never have a lot of Bitcoin on stock market accounts. Your wallet may not be hacked but the stock market may be hacked ...

You cant do anything if your BTC or wallet gets hacked, but you can do something before anything like that happens. What you need to do is use a separate computer or OS for storing your BTC if they are worth more than you can afford to lose. As this way you will only be using that OS for sending and receiving bitcoins into the wallet and not be doing any other thing on it.

Don't ever use exchanges as a wallet, don't keep all your bitcoins in just one wallet so use multiple ones and use different kinds of wallet. Harwallet is especialy recommended. If you don't keep your coins safe of course that you have to be scared of hackers.
Don't ever use exchanges as a wallet, don't keep all your bitcoins in just one wallet so use multiple ones and use different kinds of wallet. Harwallet is especialy recommended. Then you could say that you've done everything to protect your bitcoins but don't ever forget that absoulte safety doesn't exist.

Exactly. You don't have to be scared but you have to practice vertsin precautions especially if you have a lot of btc. Personally i'd advise you to invest in a hardware wallet. I agree that one of the worst things you can do is to store them in an exchange since they're prettt much not your property as long as its in there

You just have to keep your BTC private key, your BTC will be safe!

Hackers generally attack exchanges because there is a lot of money flowing!

You should'nt be scared if you know how to secure your bitcoin, just be careful in opening some site that you dont know because hackers are so smart they can easily get your accounts or private key, so if you think the site is not good dont open it for your safety and for the safety of all your accounts. If someone hack your bitcoin then you can nothing to do with it because they will urgently get your money when they open it.

Probably yes. If you have any amount of bitcoin more than what you can afford to lose, and keep it on a desktop, well thats where you make the mistake (Online wallets are out of the question, I hope you know that they are too insecure, due to the fact that there may be many vulnerabilities in their servers and the customer cannot do anything much to prevent theft of money in those cases). Any large amount of BTC (the word large is relative, what might be large for me, may be less for you) must be kept in a cold storage. Even if keeping a small amount of bitcoins on your computer of daily use, just for the sake of ease of usability, its extremely essential to always keep security maximized, and the computer needs to be always kept malware-free.

Due to the security of the blockchain structure, most attacks are exploits found within the already existing architecture of the system, that allow it to remotely send data over networks, even in some cases, secured ones. So the most exploitable link in the chain is the end user. The best practice would be to split up your funds, definitely invest in a hardware wallet, secure and good ones like Trezor or the Ledger Nano S, use cold storage, and ALWAYS backup your private keys.

If your wallet is hacked, then you will not do anything unfortunately. But you can protect your wallet. For better protection, you should be a bit paranoid: do not connect to unverified networks, maintain the correct password policy, etc.

If you are a technical person then I think no one will be able to hack your wallet. For the blockchain technology this is difficult. But I insist you should not be subjective and do not put eggs together in a basket.

it's better to secure your account with double protection like using 2FA features if available and saving your seed key on a piece of paper or something and avoid storing seed key on your computer/smartphone that's very risky. Hoặc là to transfer coins to offline wallet or create paper wallet. Because keeping in any of the exchange is not safe.

The most important thing is to keep his bitcoin on a hardware wallet and divide it into different address inside the hardware wallet.
But yeah, do not ever connect to unknown network which is often to be a bait by hackerto penetrate your PC and steal your identity

Even with only the Crypto dust, you have to keep your assets secure. It is not just a loss of money but also a lot of risk involved. And when you have a large amount of Bitcoin in your wallet, the more you have to improve the security of your assets. But you do not need to be scared. The property is yours, think of using it appropriately, and preserve it in the best way.

I am hearing a lot of users' complaint about having a problem transferring their BTC, Nowadays I am not selling it because I am "Hodling" it for future. But I am a bit of scared now because all this news about the people's BTC being hacked.

What should I do If My wallet or BTC gets hacked?

I think if you have a lot of bitcoin but you are very afraid by hackers I think it's normal, to avoid hackers better you keep your assets are in blockchain.info directly because there provides a bitcoin wallet that is very high security.

If you have a huge amount of btc then do not store it in web wallets or in any online wallet. Store it in your ledger nano or in paper wallets. Storing it offline is much more safier than saving it on we wallets wherein you can be targeted by hackers. So anyway just be careful and if you are going to hold your btc in web wallet or in any wallets available make sure to diversify your bitcoins in different wallets so that if one wallet is gone you have many wallets more.

people are to blame for the loss of their funds. Do not comply with basic safety rules. Look for the necessary site through Google without using bookmarks. Or store private keys in the mail and other easily hacked places. A vivid example of hacking Ian Balina's Google account

The safety of your bitcoin/assets relies on you. Put some antiviruses on your device and make sure its always updated so you wont get phished. Do not store you private keys or passwords on a cloud storage. If necessary, write it on a notebook and also make sure it wont be lost or get wet. Do not trust anyone by sharing your private keys. People changes when it comes to money. Hackers today are so aggressive so always be safe.

The device cannot have several antiviruses. And as you know most of them are not so much effective. I agree with you that the private key must not be stored in a cloud storage. Meanwhile, no one can get an insurance against hackers' attacks.

I think, if you have so much money invested in Bitcoin or other crypto currencies, you'd better do everything possible to put your pc in safe conditions. I would recommend you to keep your wallet's private keys on a paper and hide it somewhere. do a backup on a memory stick. these are just some of the recommendations, I think there are more))

That is why Bitcoin will ultimately fail, it is far far too risky in terms of security. Hackers will always be better than the average user or average investor

think positive. Instead of complaining , you should rather work hard towards the security of your bitcoins. You sound like you're having lots of them and i would love to sleep in your home haha. just kidding.  Make sure you don't usually login to your bitcoins account on computer. I would recommend
you use an app. There is an app for blockchain. I usually use that one and make sure you have strong password and enable all the securities which would make your account strong like 2  factor authentifications and that all that .

Hi, you're doing well that you've decided to hold the bitcoin and not sell it. If you have already decided on this option, you should keep your bitcoins safe by doing so - save your privkeys and best would be the decision for some of the cold wallet. Personally, i just heard about hacked exchanges and wallets that were on the exchange. For this reason, it is my advice, not to keep your investments on the exchange. They can guarantee you for your cryptos, but certainly not in full 100% height.

i think there is really no cause for alarm, no reason to be scared about loosing your btc, the only way that can happen is when your private key is leaked out, if not then the blockchain wallet is the best protected and secured wallet to store bitcoin.
