note that if everyone stops mining bitcoin and that 1 peer is left, the difficulty will also drop down and it won't be as high so it will be easier for him to mine bitcoin. p.s. bitcoin is just starting, why would it stop at the beginning?! If you ask any of the Bitcointalk users, you'll see that most don't only hold Bitcoin. If Bitcoin sinks to $0, but other cryptos stay alive, most of us won't simply turn into poor street salesmen. If Bitcoin "stops", which is of course very vague, but not impossible, other cryptocurrencies will take its place. Since Bitcoin or for that matter all blockchain tech depends big time on the internet, although there are paper wallets etc, Bitcoin can possibly stop if the internet is brought down globally and all at once with not a single node active. Is it possible? Anything is possible. But is it probable and realistic? Personally I dont think so. If its a question of "what if" then the answer is to diversify into other altcoins and other asset classes. Some may feel BTC has run up a lot and may fall. I think if it falls or corrects BTC will pick itself up and stand tall.

One of the reason is that its in a nascent phase because its starting off. Therefore, the world powers have more adverse influence on it in its current stage and could together decide to ban it altogether. This scenario cannot be ruled out. Another reason is its low utility value unlike the utility tokens that are very much needed in order to participate in the respective systems or applications. Take for example our P2PS utility token that is starting off now and is destined to gain momentum on our application and systems as the foundation and the systems grow. Or for that matter any other utility token that gives you the power to participate on the respective systems and use them for your benefit. The utility therefore in the medium to long term is high for utility tokens in comparison to other currencies. This is my 2 cent take on the matter.

BTC most certainly is not only the face but the granddaddy of all cryptocurrencies. But stating that whole cryptoworld will suffer if btc fails is like equating it to the blockchain itself. There will be a negative reaction for sure. The only reason its not currently at higher levels is due to its low utility and acceptability in the ecommerce industry generally speaking. Supporting technologies are emerging that will make BTC more accepted but it may take some time before this reaches reality. Until then some will continue calling it a bubble and some others continue to believe its a trend that may not last. Time will show. Yes i am sure that bitcoin will continue increasing, bitcoin has a great potential and we can see that still the traders are trying to trade bitcoin as they are expecting the price of bitcoin to increase more and more and will hopefully cross 15000$ in next few months, therefore i think buying bitcoin and holding it for some more time will be more profitable. Even if some big countries decided to ban Bitcoin, it would recover pretty quickly like it happened after Chinese exchanges ban. I wouldn't be surprised if they decided to lift the ban. Bitcoin generates huge profits and some people started to believe that cryptocurrencies are the future of finances. They might be able to replace fiats which are less secure and can be manipulated by the government.

If the old bitcoin protocol become outdated, it is up to the team to come up a new bitcoin protocol, and port the bitcoin holding records and wallet addresses to the new one. It is a blockchain based ledger, like a notebook. So if the old notebook run out of pages, simply create a new one and port everything to the new notebook. BTC could be retired if all the BTC miners migrate their mining power to other variants of the BTC but I would think this scenario would not happen in the near future. BTC miners are very resilient. Even with the China's mining ban, they are moving to all over the world to start their mining operations. So if bitcoin stops, it will be a non event as it is highly likely that another coin has taken over BTC as the leader and BTC is being retired and we wont see a sudden BTC death. To prepare for such a situation and to be able to profit from it, we should constantly be on the lookout for the next big thing. I am currently looking at arcblock, achain, NEO etc. Achain and NEO are already on the market while Arcblock is in the development stage and doing their ICO now.
