Make sure your conf and cgminer settings are matching up to each other when you have Gas-QT opened as a server. Either that or you named your conf wrong

When I opened it it had to load up 400 blocks or so.

You always name the conf what the qt is named, as well as the %appdata% folder...always.

I can't figure this out.  I've never tried solo mining before, but here's what I did, and it doesn't seem to work:

UPDATE: Nevermind!  I copied the lines from the gascoin.conf into gas.conf, and changed the port for minerd.exe, and it is mining away now!  Haven't found any blocks, though.

Follow up: I've gotten 3 orphans and only 1 accepted block so far.  I don't see the message "detected new block" ever.  Is there a way to make the miner check for new blocks more frequently?

I think the problem is you're cpu mining...I get few blocks and I'm using a 7970.

Is that the correct set of source files? Doesnt compile directly on linux (typical of windows releases). This one is coded with a 100,000 coin premine, has super blocks and block values inconsistent with what is actually happening (i.e. at 5000 blocks reward should be 6 not 0.064) . Also 3 projects listed there foocoin, securecoin and gascoin and a precompiled geocoind    ???

So yeah, definitely not worth the time (not that 4s blocks ever were)

Several things here:

1. i premined 100000 coins not the "devs" fault. thats .05% to organize a mining party to ensure the network was live upon release.
2. there is only one super block, block 51001 which pays out 7001 coins.
3. i have my kids this weekend and got in a hurry when i was uploading the source. there is a festival going on in town and i was in a rush, hence why there was so many sources in the zip.
4. the people have spoken, and i've been up the last few hours crunching numbers and organizing a plan for improving the coin. will release an update to the client tomorrow with

• fixed block rewards(as per clients request). new rewards will be a range between .064 and 16 coins
• 20 second blocks with modified dPriority, which will allow the block time to fluctuate
• updated checkpoints

additionally i hope to get fedora installed tomorrow on my desktop and i will begin working on a linux version of the client.

The solo.bat I included just launches gas-qt.exe with -server already loaded into it. Just run solo.bat to launch it as server. I think the issue is the http before the IP. Might not do anything to remove it but I don't have it in any of mine .

Orphans will look just like a real block was found. The number of transactions will also go up in the qt. If no coins come through, it was orphaned

I made a few transaction not knowing I was paying 0.1 txfee which is more than a block is worth... anyway to change that in the daemon? I tried settxfee but then i get this:

You would need to set rpc information for cgminer in your conf file at %appdata%/GAS

Make sure everyone upgrades to the new client.

Much as I hate to say this, but I think someone is trying to cause this coin to fail.  At 8:28am local time I stopped receive block rewards until 09:29 where they heppily resumed until 09:48.  Nothing at all while my miner showed share after share being submitted until 11:06am where 24 blocks in a row get solved, 12 of them apparently by me (3+ GAS reward each).  At 11:30 everything seems to be back to normal (but for how long?)

If you were on the pool, there appears to have been payment issues for a little bit while the client upgrade was ongoing. All seems to be working well now, though

I am sorry about what happened. The transition was supposed to take place after 10 hours when I did the math. What happened was the network got 51% by the old clients. I am going to upload the old chain for anyone who is having troubles getting back on it. I am also assuming that someone timetraveled the network because there is no checkpoint that kept them from doing so.

You should start over, there is so much going back and forth that coin is basically destroyed.
I have downloaded many times, older, newer, even newer version, file names, conf file names are changing all the time.

Pool died, then went back and now it seems to be doing payouts for most people based on old block payout total. (It is giving me 0.00x coins, with current 3+ payout for block it doesn't seem right, as I was getting 0.00x when blockes were 0.064

On pool page, only few addresses appear in payout list, and I am not in that list (although I receive small payouts)

Which is all very strange because I have tons of full blocks when I am connected to pool

When I do solo mining, I get tons of blocks, but 80% rejects, 20% accepts, when I look in wallet "Transactions" only 5% are there, they stay with "?" symbol and later disappear.


You should either fix everything and relaunch coin, or put up information on first page to let people know what to do to make things right and which full zip to download. Probably you need to tell them to delete everything except wallet before trying again.

Client is acting weird too ... when it catches up and shows few seconds since last block all is fine, it constanly gets info on new blocks ... then at some moment it suddenly shows - last block 1 h ago and downloads something like 600 other blocks.

I think whole network is damaged and you need to fix this now with red messages on front page of this topic.

i think we've all learned a lesson on why you can't combine 4 second blocks, 5 block retarget and rewards based on difficulty.

your whole mindset makes me think that you should team up with Vlad to make a coin, since you both seem to have entirely unrealistic expectations. do you not understand how impossible it would be to combine a 5 block retarget with a minimum difficulty of 2 with a block value based on dDiff(the function that declares the current difficulty). we tried it on testnet(yeah, i had to hire testers, what am i supposed to split .4 btc four ways?) they wanted compensation and we took 25 k apiece. no shame in that.


I think you are being unreasonable crying over .05% premine. anyone who doesn't premine a coin is just afraid of standing up to the miners who want it all for themselves, or has a ton of hash(baritus, the dgc dev has over 200 m/h gpu farm, thats why he didn't premine.)

and it was 51%'d in less than a few hours because of the low hashrate. this coin had 10 m/h's on the network by the time i gave you the client. it would have taken a significant amount of hashrate to compromise the network, and there would be little gain. i also built in a time travel check so it couldn't be timetraveled. blocks older than 2 hours are seen as invalid and orphaned. you don't give me enough credit, i knew what i was doing the whole time. i purposely threw in that 100,000 coins as foresight from my first failed coin that had no premine. my next coin had hiccups but it was premined so i had enough coins to keep people interested while i ironed out the kinks. in short i know what i'm doing.

Actually you do need to pay a lot more then a BTC to launch a real coin.  For under a BTC you get a pump and dump coin at best.  And are lucky if it even works for that anymore.     You coin lacked some of the infrastructure it should have had , and is now suffering from that especially due to the fact it and spots share the same ad hoc node finding methods now using the same ports as well.
  Most of what r3wt posts about the coin internals does not sound right at all.   They also said in a post to you that they do not know C++.  They said in another post about it being how the 'game is played'.   They are not in it to make a serious coin attempt.    That said, this coin never had a chance on a technical bases anyway.  The pump and dumpers which is what you are getting at 5btc and below, don't care to tell you that ahead of time.

You really did not search.   You posted in the threads of people making pump and dump coins. Of course that is what you will then get.    You are not going to find a good coder with that as your method of search.  You also searched for a few days, in posts buried in pump and dump coin threads the the serious coders have no reason to read.  It was r3wt that told you that you hired a good coder,   what made you trust one persons judgement on it?
What the heck does a degree have to do with it?  Just the simple fact that all they are doing is search and replace pump and dump coins should be enough information to tell you what you will get from them.

I agree with you, he should give the money back! I think he should also make a public apology to the guys and do whatever he can to make it right. I just don't see why gas coin has to die just because of this? Surely there is some way for both parties to resolve the issue? I think the mod who was talking here has it right...

Ok there is premine, now we know about it, owners should take it back and give as bounties for pools and other things. Everybody will be fine with that.

Or simply ask some developer to relaunch coin

People who mined the coin through all problems and errors showed that they actually are interested in coin, and will be more gratefull if you relaunch or continue coin than if you simply throw it out. At least I would like for coin to continue.

I know there are a lot of naive people in the world, but ~$40 to make a client and launch a coin?  I know the ONLY way I'd ask that little is if all I had to do was take the existing source code and then search and replace the names and maybe do 1 or 2 tweaks.  I ran an online game for several years and the programmers were paid over $4000 for the initial product.  An additional $3000 was spent updating it to AJAX to allow realtime viewing of movements instead of hitting the F5 key over and over.

Here's what should have happened:

Admin looks for programmer
Programmer quotes price
Admin accept price
Programmer realizes price quoted was too low
Programmer apologizes to Admin and asks to renegotiate fee
Admin either accepts or declines new fee
Programmer lives with decision.

What would GASCoin have said if you PM'd him and said "Dude, I need to hire testers, would an extra .2 BTC be acceptable?"

Maybe he would have paid, maybe he would have supplied his own testers, maybe.... maybe...maybe.
If this were the real world, and you had done work for a bank and used code to give yourself money and got caught, you'd be in jail.

Personally, I agree with coinerd.  All of this is dragging both sides down.  At this point everyone needs to walk away.

In all honesty, it needs a relaunch.  I stopped mining when the pool mined the same block 14 times in a row (with some ungodly 10billion coin reward listed) and I could no longer get the client to sync.

Yeah, it'd be great to reward all those that stuck with it and kept mining, but you'd then also have to reward the thieves that stole 100k by premining.

I gave it no thought, I was looking for something to mine and it was launching so I figured what better time to try it.  If you can't get in ahead of the bot nets, you only get dribbles.

What do you think 90%+ of the launched coins are.  EXACTLY that.  Hell most of the time they don't even modify everything that needs to be modified.  They use the same alertkey as LTC, they don't change magic numbers so nodes running multiple blockchains end up confused spamming LTC blocks into xCoin network for example.  Hell in some coins they don't even change user facing strings so some error messages or confirmations will say "Litecoin".

To date there has been very little innovation in the alt-coin space:
LTC, PPC, Freicoin (I think it is a stupid idea but it is at least innovative), Powercoin Primecoin.  That is about it.  Everything else has been copy, replace, tweak, launch.

Now I am still not sold that these coins will be successful.  For example I don't think merchants really care which POW is used as long as the network is secure.  However all these coins required a little more work than copy, paste, tweak, and launch.

Is there any reason you guys don't just use an existing coin, that already has an established userbase and secure network, to trade for gas cards?

Because obviously fungibility of a currency is a stupid idea.  I mean it makes so much sense to have SexCoin for buying sex, and GameCoin for buying games, and Casino coin for buying Casino chips, and GoldCoin for buying Gold, and WeedCoin for buying Weed (I guess so you can ruin your neighbors lawn), and GasCoin for buying Gas.  A large single well supported currency for buying sex, porn, games, casino chips, gold, weed, gas, and countless other products and services?  Are you off your meds again?  That would almost be the start of an economy or something.

We are not a specific use currency.. and I suggest you check out our latest update.. we are leagues ahead of clones like this one now.

I guess LTC should really be replaced with TBX.   A case might be able to be made for NMC and DVC as well.

Most of the batch of coins since this past April have gone backwards.
