As with anything valuable, hackers, thieves, and scammers will all be after your bitcoins, so securing your bitcoins is necessary.

If you’re serious about investing in bitcoin and see yourself buying a significant amount, we recommend using Bitcoin wallets that were built with security in mind.

Ledger Nano S – Ledger is a Bitcoin security company that offers a wide range of secure Bitcoin storage devices. We currently see the Ledger Nano S as Ledger’s most secure wallet. Read more about the Ledger Nano or buy one.
TREZOR – TREZOR is a hardware wallet that was built to secure bitcoins. It generates your Bitcoin private keys offline. Read more about TREZOR or buy one.
Bitcoins should only be kept in wallets that you control.

If you leave $5,000 worth of gold coins with a friend, your friend could easily run off with your coins and you might not see them again.

Because Bitcoin is on the internet, they are even easier to steal and much harder to return and trace. Bitcoin itself is secure, but bitcoins are only as secure as the wallet storing them.

Investing in bitcoin is no joke, and securing your investment should be your top priority.

Software
Keep your software up to date. A wallet running on non-updated bitcoin software can be a soft target for hackers. The latest version of wallet software will have a better security system in place thereby increasing the safety of your bitcoins. If your software is updated with the latest security fixes and protocol, you may evade a big crisis because of the enhanced security of the wallet. Consistently update your mobile device or computer operating systems and software to make your bitcoins safer.

Offline Mode
The offline mode of securing bitcoins is called cold storage. Cold storage wallets are not connected to the Internet and are thus less susceptible to hacking. Since accessing a cold storage wallet can be inconvenient, it’s best to split the bitcoins you own. Keep a small amount of bitcoins in an online digital wallet for daily trading needs and keep the rest in cold storage. Cold storage takes the private keys in an offline mode, thus decreasing the chances of theft. The practice of using cold storage is not only popular with individuals but even with cryptocurrency exchanges that deal with huge sums and are often under constant threat by hackers. The popular cold storage methods are paper wallet, sound wallets, storage devices (like a USB drive), and hardware wallets.

I agreed that hardware wallets are good at securing Bitcoin and Altcoin. There are plenty of phishing website around, the hardware wallet doesn’t expose your private key. Buying one at less than $100, it is definitely a good buy.

Hardware wallets would be your best bet.

Either Trezor (T) or Ledger are good choices that have been proven trusted and secure over a couple of years now.

Alternatively, you can make an offline pc to create a paper wallet and use that to store your coins.

How to secure bitcoin is we must have a private key which is basically a private key only ourselves who know our personal key password and maybe we should enable 2FA feature as it serves to provide authentication and notification in your bitcoin wallet.

Cryptocurrencies can feel secure, because they decentralize and often anonymize digital transactions. They also validate everything on public, tamper-resistant blockchains. But those measures don't make cryptocurrencies any less susceptible to the types of simple, time-honored scams grifters have relied on in other venues. Just this week, scams have arisen that divert funds from users' mining rigs to malicious wallets, because victims forgot to change default login credentials. Search engine phishing scams that tout malicious trading sites over legitimate exchanges have also spiked. And a trojan called CryptoShuffler has stolen thousands of dollars by lurking on computers, and spying on Bitcoin wallet addresses that land in copy/paste clipboards.

You should be wary of any service designed to store your money online. Many exchanges and online wallets suffered from security breaches in the past and such services generally still do not provide enough insurance and security to be used to store money like a bank. Accordingly, you might want to use other types of Bitcoin wallets. Otherwise, you should choose such services very carefully. Additionally, using two-factor authentication is recommended

Well you should pick those most useful and trusted site like blockchain. Blockchain was tried and tested that is why I choose this wallet. Besides, don't put all of your bitcoins in one wallet so that in case that the other one has been hacked you have still a balance. Having also a cold wallet which ledger nano in particularly will be the most countermeasure for hackers.

Bitcoin itself is secured since it is decentralized. Maybe you meant is with your wallet/storage? Most of wallets now are requesting to enable 2fa ( two factor authentication) You should enable this to add more security to your wallet. 2fA uses OTP (One Time Password) whhich is only valid for one time login.

Speak out buddy! You can express yourself lot more than this.  :D

Bitcoin can be stored at many places as people above suggesting you. Every place has its own safety features and more or less security. For me, the private key owned wallet is most important. You can be controller of your wallet and if you want to change the wallet in future then you can do so by transferring the private key to the other wallet. Thats best way to store it. Or else just put it into local wallet which is recognised in your country with KYC verifications.

I am sure everyone will store their coin directly to the their own hard wallet in order to secure their own coin. But to be true, most people that are having wallet and store it on your wallet will be stuck until you send it back to the exchange to withdraw it. Mean while what I saw here, many of them is trading their coin every single day which is pretty hard to really secure it on any place

The most secure way to store them is probably either a paper wallet or a hardware wallet. I personally think a paper wallet is probably the safest as long as you create the keys offline. The only thing that concerns me about a hardware wallet is that someone handled it at the factory where it was manufactured, so can we really trust that it wasn’t compromised somehow.

How to Secure Bitcoins?
Easy.
Hardware wallets like Ledger Nano S or Trezor. For me it is the best option to secure your bitcoin. It is really easy to use and to setup. Just don't share your privatif key and keep your 24 seed-words secret. Never trust anyone.
After that, if you don't do "mistakes", (share private key etc) destop wallets are fine too.
I never experimented problems with wallets but remember, it is your money, nobody is here to keep it for you. Choose wisely and the most secure way to keep it safe.

Always activate the (2FA) Two-Factors Authentication of your wallet or any crypto accounts. Store your private key in a safe place and don't share it to anyone, except the people who you trust like your wife/husband or parents. You can also use offline or cold storage wich is more safer to store your bitcoins.

There are multiple ways to secure your bitcoins and any other coins/tokens in your portfolio, but the best way among them is unquestionably hardware wallets like Trezor etc. Storing your coins and tokens on exchanges is a bad idea and is something I do not recommend to anyone(Binance Trading Bot hack recently for example). Desktop wallets, paper wallets and hardware wallets are some of the best ways to secure your bitcoins.

Online wallets like MEW(MyEtherWallet) etc are also great to store your altcoins/tokens. I have been using Trezor for quite sometime and I have had a pleasant experience so far. Highly recommended by crypto security experts.

The most important thing to keep in mind is: the bitcoin, as a technology itself, is very secure, due to the blockchain infrastructure. The only loose link in that chain, however, is the user-end computer/device. The most important thing to do if you own large amount of bitcoins is to use a hardware wallet, you can search for good ones, there are many, like Trezor, Ledger Nano S, etc., or use paper wallets, and cold storage. That will keep your bitcoins safe. NEVER keep bitcoins that you care for, in a computer that you use daily, and is connected to the internet daily, it could make them vulnerable to exploits found in systems nowadays.
However, for convenience of transacting, the best way to go around with the problem is keeping a small amount of wallets in a usable computer, though not one you connect to the internet often, and securely configuring a good wallet, such as Electrum.

Storing bitcoins on a USB stick is not as straight forward as storing regular data. Bitcoin private keys are secret codes and storing them on a regular USB stick leaves them at risk of theft if someone were to physically discover the USB.
Luckily, entrepreneurs have created unique solutions that allow Bitcoin users to store coins on USB sticks or similar devices. The rest of this post will run through your options for storing bitcoins on these devices.

In addition to financial benefits, there are several elements that secure bitcoin from theft. Cryptography controls the creation and transfer of a cryptocurrency, and the protocols underlying bitcoin have proven to be robust. Bitcoin's use of a distributed ledger known as blockchain gives owners a record of all their transactions that cannot be tampered with because there is no single point of failure. However, this hasn't stopped attackers from exploiting vulnerabilities within bitcoin exchanges or wallets -- the software used for storing bitcoins on computers or smartphones. Bitcoin exchanges are not regulated by the government, and they generally do not provide enough insurance and security to be used to store money in the same way as a bank.

The first thing that you do to secure your bitcoin is, don't share your private key to others even if you are friends don't share it. When using a online wallet example for that is eth wallet you must install a offline wallet, just like a metamask so it can prevent your account to be phished by the hackers.
And lastly be smart, you should be think wisely in investing

Hardware wallets are very safe. Cold storage too is also very safe. When using online wallets make sure to get the passkeys and do not screenshot these passkeys, because your phone could be hacked and the passkeys will be gotten from the screenshot. Write them down and keep them in a place where only you have access to them.

the way is very easy. You simply open the wallet app, enter the Bitcoin address of the transaction opponent with the number of bitcoins you want to transfer, then press the 'Send' button. The actual mode of life is similar to Internet Banking basically. The difference is only in the level of security where Bitcoin is far superior because the transaction occurs directly from the sender to the recipient without involving a "bitcoin agency" or any manager who can at any time control, take or remove your money.

I suggest either creating a paper wallet or use a hardware wallet. I think a paper wallet is probably the safest as long as you create the keys offline and secure them safely.

Hardware wallets are supposed to be very secure as well. However, I hear that there is a potential vulnerability with the ledger Nano where malware can be used to change the receiving address so the coins go to a fraudulent wallet.

As in real life, you have to protect your wallet. Using bitcoin can easily transfer money around the world and give you complete control over your money.

A bitcoin wallet is like a wallet with cash. If you don't have thousands of dollars in your pocket, you should have the same concerns about your wallet. In general, a good strategy is: in your computer, mobile device or on a server to store only a few COINS used for everyday needs, and to the rest of the money in a safer environment.

Keep your wallet backup in a safe place to protect your wallet from computer glitches and many human errors. If you encrypt your wallet, when your phone or computer is stolen, it can also be used to restore your wallet.

The safest and easiest way to secure your bitcoin is put it on wallet and protect from hacker and thieves. You can keep your password and private key in a safe place so that you can protect your wallet from hacker. Lastly, try to put some 2fa google authenticator so that you can make it more secure.

you can use TREZOR wallet, BLOCKCHAIN, but I prefer to blockchain because the shipping cost is very cheap. my suggestion if you use blockchain wallet you can write private key and password in file .txt and wrap the file using winrar application and put password. I think it's very safe

If you want to daily use your bitcoin use electrum or blockchain.info wallet
If you want to save your coins (Less than 1BTC) for next few months, than use paper wallet (free)
If you want to save your coins for a year or more and amount is quite big than you should buy hardware wallet (Cost less than $100).

Never use same email and password in every site you will register.

Your bitcoins are pretty well secure until you do something stupid that makes you lose your bitcoins. I mean in private keys wallets your bitcoins are pretty secure. Avoid keeping it in exchanges as you don't control the private keys of that wallet. If you want to be extra secure with your bitcoins then ledger nano s or trezor hardware wallet will be pretty much secure as hardware wallets are inaccessible until you have the device itself along with the private key.

The most important thing required for that is to make your private keys safe on some cold storage device to which only you or your trusted ones have access to.Keep preferring to store coins in offline wallets which gives hackers less chance or zero to gain access to your accounts.Otherwise there are some paid wallets which keep your bitcoins safe with them.

Hi there Brian Goldman! There are so many ways bitcoin holder do to secure their possessions. What I prefer to do is to enable the two factor authentication built in to the wallet. I don;t know what is the wallet you are using but, most of the wallet provider have that kind of feature. If you have a huge amount of bitcoin let say one bitcoin, it is advisable to get a hardware wallet. Trezor is a great option, I don't have that kind of stuff but based on my reading, that is the most suggested brand. There are a lot of hardware wallet some comes more cheaper but the security and support is what most paid most rather than the cost.

Yeah actually the wallet system is very safe give all control to you. I use a desktop wallet and have never experienced a bad thing like theft. the key is secure private key, keep your antivirus update, because currently there are many viruses that can steal your bitcoin with various models. storing bitcoin in exchange is not recommended but the security will also depend on that site. I know the owner of the local exchange site in my country so I think saving in exchange will be quite safe.

Recently, we has one member here sharing her experience where she shared her bitcoin details with her sister and later she was cheated by her sister. First, protect your email account using two-factor authentication to prevent attacks. Second, do the same with your bitcoin storage service. Coinbase already requires a two-factor logon to the system: it consists of a password and text received via SMS. Because SMS can be intercepted, you must use the application-based verification option, such as Google Authenticator. (This may seem complicated, although it is not.) This is cyberhygiene, which should be used for any password-protected online service.)

You disclose your private key yourself

Keep your software up to date. A wallet running on non-updated bitcoin software can be a soft target for hackers. The latest version of wallet software will have a better security system in place thereby increasing the safety of your bitcoins. If your software is updated with the latest security fixes and protocol, you may evade a big crisis because of the enhanced security of the wallet. Consistently update your mobile device or computer operating systems and software to make your bitcoins safer.

There are some new ICOs regarding exchanges which are designed exactly to address such concerns. How to Secure Bitcoins?
In 5 way we secure our bitcoin. Namely:

1. Offline Mode:
The offline mode of securing bitcoins is called cold storage.

2. Backup:
Backup your entire bitcoin wallet early and often. In case of a computer failure, a history of regular backups may be the only way to recover the currency in the digital wallet.

3. Software:
Keep your software up to date. A wallet running on non-updated bitcoin software can be a soft target for hackers.

4. Encryption:
Encryption adds a layer of security to a particular folder, file, or message as it can only be unlocked by someone who knows the right key to it.

5. Multi-Signature:
The concept of a multi-signature has gained some popularity; it involves an approval from a number of people for a transaction to take place.

It is best if you will be placing your bitcoin to the hardware wallet like ledger nano s and other type of hardware wallet like trezor because those are the best and most secured type of wallet for our cryptocurrencies and there is no chance for us to lose it online since our wallet are hardware wallets and it is offline so the way to get our coins get stolen is to steal the hardware wallet from us.

And if you really want to secure your bitcoin you could keep it in a paper wallet or any offline wallet that could only be accessed by you.

The most secure way is either storing your bitcoins in a hardware wallet or a paper wallet. One costs money while the other option is free. But using a hardware wallet is much easier and secure. Trezor and Ledger are two companies that manufacture hardware wallets and I would recommend them both.

Here are a few pieces of advice that, should you follow them, will keep you safe from hackers.

First: Don’t rush! When considering launching your project — be it ICO, exchange shop, or cryptocurrency exchange — always remain attentive and vigilant. This will make you less susceptible to risks to trivial attacks like phiphing.

Second: Use only reliable antivirus, firewall and VPN systems. Always check the quality of your software developer: Sometimes what passes for free antivirus is a malware, which can infect your device.

Three: Store cryptocurrency on cold cryptowallets! And if you own a large amount of coins, it is a great idea you don’t put all your eggs into one basket. Divide your sum into small-to-average installments and keep them separately. If possible, use ‘cold’ wallets. Never connect to the devices that you don’t know are safe.

Fourth: Keep up with updates! Always upgrade any software you use to the latest version. That way you will protect your cryptocurrency against the latest threats. Reading the developers’ guidelines and precautions carefully is also a good idea.

how to secure a bitcoin wallet? One way I will explain is to make a bitcoin wallet.

Before we learn how to secure a bitcoin wallet, let's discuss a bit about what is meant by the bitcoin wallet itself.

Bitcoin is stored in an account called the Bitcoin Wallet (Bitcoin Wallet). Any company Bitcoin wallet can be used to store bitcoins and you can download them for free on the Google Play Store or Apple Store. I recommend looking for an app that has the highest number of downloads and the highest review stars.

The most important thing you should do to secure your wallet is to backup your private key. When you create a Bitcoin wallet, you will automatically have a public key and private key. The public key is a series of letters and numbers that you can imagine as a bank account number.

So long as you still have a private key, your bitcoin is safe.

Choose a good wallet and keep your wallet information safe. I think that's the best advice anyone would say and give you. Now as for the types of wallets, and the types of wallet storage you would use, there are so many different ones that have their pros and cons, and that should chosen by none other you. However, make sure that you keep your wallet address safe; many people usually put it in storage that is not connected to the internet so that it would be susceptible to hacking. Also, make sure to not put everything in one wallet.

Encryption adds a layer of security to a particular folder, file, or message as it can only be unlocked by someone who knows the right key to it. Thus encryption simply means using a password for being able to access the Bitcoin wallet. In cases where a desktop, mobile, or hardware wallet is used, encryption is even more important to protect from online rogues. Not only should the password be strong with the use of capital letters, numbers, and special characters, but it should either be memorized or kept at a very safe spot since the password recovery mechanism is very weak in the case of Bitcoin.

Bitcoin as a technology is very strong but it is the subject matter of the user that where he is storing his coins. No one can brute force your wallet on the network and hack the coins but if you are keeping your funds on any exchange or web wallet then you can't rely on the security precautions taken by those service providers. Hackers can always try to hack their database and steal your coins. At the end, Bitcoin is all about self responsibility and we deserve, what we get in this decentralized world.

OWNING CRYPTOCURRENCY ISN'T quite the Wild West experience it was at the beginning of the decade, but investors still face plenty of instability and risk. The threats aren't just abstract or theoretical; new scams crop up, and old ones resurge, all the time. Whether it's a fake wallet set up to trick users, a phishing attempt to steal private cryptographic keys, or even fake cryptocurrency schemes, there’s something to watch out for at every turn.

A few simple steps, though, can help cryptocurrency proponents—be it Bitcoin or Monero or anything between—guard against a swath of common attacks. Just as you might keep your cash out of plain sight, or stash your jewelry in a safe deposit box, it pays to put a little effort into how you manage your cryptocurrency. The following won't defend against every conceivable attack on your digital doubloons, but it's a good place to start.

How to secure bitcoins depends from whom you are afraid, government, hackers, neighbors or wife. There is planty ways to secure bitcoins but probably the best way is offline wallet and send bitcoin there after you mixed them in some bitcoin mixer. The best way to protect yourself from anyone is to hide the fact that you have something at all. The more you talk, more people will hear and that will come to someone who will rob you, doesn't matter how secured you are there is always a way.
Buy yourself a leger wallet or trezor, fill them with bitcoins and don't tell anyone about it, its how you can protect yourself from governments, from thiefs, even from your wife. Look what happen with 50 cent, first he said he is bitcoin millionaire and on court he said that his statement was just in commercial purposes, when he needed to pay taxes. Learn from other people mistakes.

stored in a bitcoin wallet. As long as you have your private key Bitcoin wallet, you no longer need to worry if your Bitcoin purse provider site is down or inaccessible. For example, your Bitcoin wallet is installed on your smartphone and the app is erased (or worse, your smartphone is gone), you simply reinstall the Bitcoin wallet on another device (on tablet or PC for example) and enter your private key to gain access to your wallet back. One of the safest and easiest ways to back up your wallet

The main thing you should do to secure your wallet is to back up your private key. When you create a Bitcoin account, you will automatically have both a public key and a private key. The public key is a series of letters and numbers that you can imagine as a bank account. and use the 2FA feature, to make it more secure.

One of the best choices is Hardware wallets, here are some of them.
Some are indented for long term storage others more for daily use. Take your pick,

  • Digital Bitbox https://shiftcrypto.ch/ Encrypted USB communication, tamper-resistant chips, native software that excludes the risk associated with browser-based extensions.
  • Keepkey https://www.keepkey.com/ The decently sized crystal clear screen of the device makes it easy for the user to navigate its menus. Top quality product.
  • Trezor https://trezor.io/ It is one of the older names in the cryptocurrency wallets business. The first line of defense for the Trezor device is a distinctive PIN code
  • Ledger Nano S https://www.ledgerwallet.com/ Supports most currencies and is top seller at the moment.
  • OpenDimes https://opendime.com/ Opendime is a small USB stick that allows you to spend Bitcoin like a  dollar bill. Pass it along multiple times. Connect to any USB to check  balance. Unseal anytime to spend online. Trust no one.
  • Tangem https://tangem.com/ The new kid on the block. The first smart banknote for digital assets.

Additionally, using two-factor authentication is recommended.

A Bitcoin wallet is like a wallet with cash. If you wouldn't keep a thousand dollars in your pocket, you might want to have the same consideration for your Bitcoin wallet. In general, it is a good practice to keep only small amounts of bitcoins on your computer, mobile, or server for everyday uses and to keep the remaining part of your funds in a safer environment.

I think everybody knows the importance on securing your crypto assets. So no further preaching on that.

How I (our business) does it?

1. Liquid amount on exchange (like 3-4%) - its a major exchange
2. Desktop wallets for other 3-4% of liquidity (no multi sig. management direct access)
3. rest is on 4 different hw wallets (ledger) in 4 different bank vaults.
4. private key backup done with cryptosteel (love those things) in different banks (key never complete on 1 slide).

all in all, our funds are in hw wallets in 3 different countries with 4 different banks.

The best protection is still to make sure no one knows that you have a lot of crypto and can assign you to any wallet/address.
Works as well with FIAT.

For example, Public key like home address, it can be found on every database, from asset records to phone contacts. And if you want someone to send you a letter, give them your home address. I also want to talk about encryption by encryption. If someone knows your home address, it does not mean they can go inside and use everything in there. They need a home key, and that is the private key: something that helps you (and only you) access and manage your assets. Obviously you have to keep the house key carefully, do not hit the keys and send them to anyone you see off the street! Private key too.

This is a worthwhile post. Save it and read it over again, op, if you are serious about securing your bitcoin and altcoins. Get yourself a hardware wallet asap.

One way to secure your bitcoin and cryptocurrency is to have a good digital wallet management. As a rule, poor wallet management increases the likelihood that you will fail to do something stupid resulting in financial losses.

I think the most correct way to keep bitcoin from hackers and other hacking is storing your savings on a cold purse! For example, I have a separate device for logging into all my accounts, which is very difficult to crack, because 99% of the time it is not connected to the Internet!

Keep your wallet backup in a safe place to protect your wallet from computer glitches and many human errors. If you encrypt your wallet, when your phone or computer is stolen, it can also be used to restore your wallet.

How to Secure Bitcoins?
Like in real life, your wallet must be secured. Bitcoin makes it possible to transfer value anywhere in a very easy way and it allows you to be in control of your money. Such great features also come with great security concerns. At the same time, Bitcoin can provide very high levels of security if used correctly. Always remember that it is your responsibility to adopt good practices in order to protect your money. read the link for further details https://bitcoin.org/en/secure-your-wallet

if you want to be more secured use a lot of wallets, buy ledger nano for cold storage, and do not trust or engage in any other trading or website without studying or confirming it as a legit website, do not give your keys to anyone.

The main thing is do not tell and save either the password or privatekey you have. Then use google authentication on any wallet or ID market you have, use all the security levels provided by the site or app from the wallet or market used.

Find a reliable and trusted wallet for you to store your bitcoins. Another is just don't forget all your information in you own wallet account. Make it always up to date. Last is don't try to share your information to the person/s you are not familiar with and don't give your trust to them easily.

I disagree. just using a hardware wallet might make it secure in terms of hacking but people just forget how easy you lose such a wallet and if you don't have your keys stored somewhere else, the funds are gone! For backup: now if you just put a txt file on your google drive with your keys in it or on a piece of paper, your current security level is a piece of paper.

in matters of security, the weakest spot is your security level.

I simply think that usb drives get lost damn fast and if you don't have it in a bank vault, your millions are simply in your house on the couch table.

When you create a Bitcoin wallet, you will automatically have a public key and private key. The public key is a series of letters and numbers that you can imagine as a bank account number.

It is very important to safe your pass word from those who are in search of people to get their bitcoin by hacking, we should remain careful while going for payments in markets and shopping malls with bitcoin. For sure experienced and well known exchangers should be use to get and sell bitcoin, as much as you will keep your private key safe they more your bitcoin will be secure from all kind of problems so I liked your point of view.

The most popular one is to use hardware wallet which costs about hundred dollars but makes sure that your bitcoins are secure by separating your private key from anything else. If you don't want to spend any money then you should use Bitcoin Core or Electrum. These two wallets are the most popular ones and allow you to control your private key which is used for signing transactions.

The practice of using cold storage is not only popular with individuals but even with cryptocurrency exchanges that deal with huge sums and are often under constant threat by hackers.

if you do not really understand the world, it is easy for us to experience loss or deceit. Bitcoin still has weaknesses in its security.
As virtual money, you also have to store Bitcoin virtually as well. E-Wallet or digital wallet is where you store Bitcoin with a special line of code called a private key. The code line is used if you want to transact using Bitcoin. Well, this line of code is likely to be stolen or known to others. But do not worry, every transaction that happens is always recorded in the system, really. So if theft happens, it will be easy to track and discover.

Bitcoin is already secured by the Terahashes of mining power running its blockchain. The security is built into the proof of work protocol, so there is really nothing you can do to help contribute unless you start running a full node, or contributing masses of hashing power. How to Secure Bitcoins?
If keeping for the long term as in not going to trade regularly then it is best to keep them in a local wallet and keep the private keys safely stored away, a hardware wallet such as Ledger or Trezor are fantastic for this.

There are quit a number of good ways to store your Bitcoins but one thing that you must emphasize on is the security of your coins, this should always be given priority at all the time. we all have preferences when it comes to the choice of wallet we use. some will settle for web based  MEW because of the rapid transaction speed and efficiency, Bu for the sake of proper security, I'd settle for Hardware wallets which are not as prone to hacking as Web base wallets. They store your crypto offline making it impossible for a stranger to access it.

The best and the highest security in bitcoin is what I term personal responsibility due to the fact that no matter how secured a platform is once there is a lose in the mathematical codes any one can access which ever treasure that is stored in such platform and same with bitcoin. We must protect our personal keys once we let it out there is no amount of security technology that will protect our coins.

Bitcoin is a sort for currencies especially because its price increased for more than 1000% in 2017 to what it is in Dec 2016. So scammers are after its holders. Dont make your usual password the one you used for your e-mail or non-financial site. Your bitcoin is become your asset and your password is standing as your will

Trezor is the best wallet for this.

Many applications in the cryptomarket are offering to secure your bitcoin through digital wallets that could be cloud (online storage) or cold (offline storage). There a  lot of them but the most important thing you need to remember to secure your bitcoin is to be anonymous. Don't speak to everyone that you are using bitcoin if there is a possibility that someone can try to hack you in. Keep your passwords to yourself and stay chill in using bitcoin.

I prefer using an offline wallet for Bitcoin, its provides beter level of security for storage. It also ensure storing a wallet in a safer place that is not connected to the internet. If it is well done, it will offer a better protection against computer attack. It is a preferred practice by using an offline wallet along with backups and encryption.

Yeah, that is true. Bitcoin is not a joke and investing to it is also not. You should know the threat on your environment. Dont share your passwords or private keys to other people.

Assure that you have the right choose and pick of the virtual wallet you will use to store up your Bitcoin as well as the other cryptocurrency you have. You must secure that you are the only one who have the full access into your account where you have stored up your Bitcoin holdings. Do not let anyone to know anything about your security codes that you have used to secure your holdings because once you have done a wrong move of letting other people know your privacy setting, we will never know if he will be trusted or not because as of our time now, many people will do such movement just to obtain Bitcoin either on the good or bad one. So beware and trust no one. Secure a copy of your privacy setting so that if you forget, you can still access it.

Bitcoin is secure as possessing physical precious metal, just like holding a bag of gold coins, a person who takes reasonable precautions will safe from having his personal coin stolen by hackers. You can save or store your coin in your personal electronic wallet either online or offline. The offline method is more hacker resistant and is recommended for everyone who owns more bitcoins but it is not without risk. Besides that you are suggested to copy your file and store as a duplicate backup every day when do bitcoin transactions.

Bitcoin wallets are now more targeted by hacking attacks more than ever. This is because of the fast rising of the value of Bitcoin. The same steps are still given by advisors in making sure that Bitcoins are safe. As much as possible, save them in a hard wallet. Do not let anyone know your security pins, private keys, and passwords. Not even your bestfriend. Use 2FA and make sure that the sites you are logging in are not phishing sites.

If install any wallet check the information for the apps. Before use. So most of the people don't know the wallet how to choose and how to handle this process. So people first gather information then choose the best wallet for hold the best coin. So don't use before check. It to risk for the your future saving. So choose the best wallet and hold the coin long time and don't share the wallet information. If share the information some people try to hack. So be safe and careful to use the wallet for long time to hold.

Many in the thread recommending some software or ways to safely store bitcoin, I think we should think first on what ourselves can do. As a user we should be vigilant and careful on what we do with our bitcoins and we should be wary of things surrounding our bitcoin. Beginning in ourselves is the first step in safely securing something. Having the right mindset and following your own safety precautions is a big help in making a habit to safely keep those precious bitcoins.

How to Secure Bitcoins?

There are lot of ways to secure bitcoins primarily you can first focus on the basics like bookmarking your wallet websites to avoid phishing websites, securing your account details by not sharing it to others as much as possible or you can level it up by  buying ledgers to store your bitcoins offline which I think is much safer and secure.

I cant think of any safer way to protect our digital asset other than owning a hardware wallet. There are too many wallet hack out there. The only safest way is of course hardware wallet, because you dont need to paste your private key everytime you access your wallet.
And what is better, you dont even know your own private key with hardware wallet and that is the deal!

If Bitcoin is stored in a wallet that only the owner has the keys to, the coins are safe from all online attacks. The only thing that this platform can not deal with is the risks of the real world: the threat of theft, a bullet in the head, fire and floods, as well as the threats that come from the owners of purses themselves. The biggest reason for lost coins is not the third parties — it's ourselves. Stories about lost hardware wallets, rewritable hard drives and forgotten passwords do not need to be distributed. Stolen or weak passwords is the same problem like the lost keys to the wallets. Any private key solution must take into account the risk of human error. Otherwise, even the most bizarre hardware wallets and the strongest safes can turn out to be redundant. So it's all up to you.

How do you store your bitcoins? Sure, the coins are registered on the blockchain, but how do you store the private keys that secure your funds? If you don’t have any Bitcoin now, how would you keep your private keys, the small files that have direct monetary value, safe from both loss and hackers? Given that key security is one of the major obstacles to mainstream adoption of cryptocurrencies, and every single coin hacking event is a black eye for the entire cryptocurrency community, a lot rides on the answers to these questions.

How to Secure Bitcoins?
Just like how you value your important things, some bitcoin wallet has a private keys, this private keys must kept with safe storage and no one needs to know where it is except you and also the person you trust too like your husband/wife or parents. It is still depend on you if you want to just keep it yourself or tell it also with your partners.

That is what i also did mate except for one thing, i never tell my partner about on where i hid my private keys. Well, well it depends on a relationship anyway. The thing is i don’t trust my partner that much and we are on the rocky side in our relationships maybe that is the most reason why i keep it from her. But my parents knew about it since i don’t want my investment to just turn to waste if something bad will happen to me. But my parents already knew that it goes to my children someday.

In real life, you do not carry all your money in your pocket every day. As with real money, you must distribute your Bitcoin funds and keep the necessary amount that covers your daily expenses in your mobile or online wallet. Distribution of your funds among several depositories, reduces to zero the possibility of the theft of all your funds for one time.

Invest in a good wallet. Good wallets that actually take security as a top priority. You might want to invest in offline wallets or paper wallets. These wallets are really great because they don't really need to connect to the internet that much. Always make sure when you connect to the internet it is secure.

The main thing you should do to secure your wallet is to back up your private key. When you create a Bitcoin account, you will automatically have both a public key and a private key. The public key is a series of letters and numbers that you can imagine as a bank account. and use the 2FA feature, to make it more secure.
There are a lot of viable and effective ways of storing and securing your precious bitcoin investments at the same time. These are the so-called cryptocurrency wallrts that are effectively suitable for storing and securing bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies in a single keeping. This adds another thick layer of security to prevent hacks and thefts which are still happening due to the negligence of some investors of their bitcoins.

So i think we need only to be aware and think before we click some unfamiliar site that we can see.

For long-term storage, use https://bitaddress.org (https://bitaddress.org) to generate a paper wallet encrypted with BIP38. Write down the passphrase in a secure location. Keep the paper wallet in your safe deposit box.

For a phone wallet, I use Electrum. Easy to back up. You can keep the same wallet on your computer if you want. The Android version is kind of rough around the edges, though.

I've never used a hardware wallet, so I can't comment on them. But I hear they're good.

Cryptocurrencies can feel secure, because they decentralize and often anonymize digital transactions. They also validate everything on public, tamper-resistant blockchains.  The practice of using cold storage is not only popular with individuals but even with cryptocurrency exchanges that deal with huge sums and are often under constant threat by hackers. Because Bitcoin is on the internet, they are even easier to steal and much harder to return and trace. Bitcoin itself is secure, but bitcoins are only as secure as the wallet storing them. It is still depend on you if you want to just keep it yourself or tell it also with your partners. But my parents knew about it since i don’t want my investment to just turn to waste if something bad will happen to me.

How to secure Bitcoin, as follows:
1. As a Developer get used to listen to feedback from users to minimize the possibility of Code Error (Faulty Code) as happened in DAO Attack.
2. Staying relaxed and cool when getting information from emails or other messages that require you to do something, emotion and hurry that is being used by the hackers.
3. In storing the cryptocurrency assets you always take note and note: 1. Where and how do you keep private keys? How to preventive measures if your place to store lost / damaged? Have some digital backups and wallets in the form of hardware or printed wallet.

You ought to likewise utilize vast letters for a similar trouble they will know. For your better record then you ought not to spare your secret word on the off chance that you can simply compose it on the paper or place it in the note so you won't overlook it.
