Ethereum has been use widely for ICO purchase which have given this coin a high recognition. And also ripple has been on test for her technology in financial institutions to use since it can process trasactions than bitcoin. Will these two coins replace bitcoin and become number 1 on the coinmarketcap

It doesn't seem likely. Bitcoin still has very large dominance over them and I see it only getting stronger in the future. As much as I appreciate Ethereum I think it will soon begin to be replaced by the next generation blockchains, bitcoin probably won't face this problem because it is unique and will always have the first mover advantage. Ripple - hahaha.

Definitely won't be either of these coins. Bitcoin has the first mover advantage and the whole cryptosphere shakes when bitcoin starts dropping, but not vice-versa. Next generation blockchains might have the potential to overthrow bitcoin, something like NEO or EOS, but they would need significant backing to do so, and probably wont manage it either.

if bitcoin continues to be unstable, then perhaps these two coins will take the leading positions in the market.

Some authorities are trying for ripple to control the economy but i don't think it is possible. A lot of advertisement have been made for ripple end of 2017 and we can say they succeed a little bit but now i can see a lot of negative posts about ripple.

Some may think that ripple is supported by banks and it will replace bitcoin but wait, everything changes on long term situation.
What's the main idea of crypto? Anonimity and privacy + ability to send money from any place to anywhere with just one offline/online wallet without banks.
So ripple isn't it, we can easily say no to it's possibility to replace bitcoin.

No one knows, maybe later down the line, yes. They are so different, perhaps they will happily coexist as #1 and #2 forever. What is interesting is that Eth seems to exist quietly and comfortably in the background while Btc is constantly the topic of debate. It will take a huge jump for ETH to surpass BTC at current marketcap. Again, it doesn't seem likely to happen very soon with how strong btc's popularity is.

I personally think you are on the right direction. In my opinion, the chance for BTC to be replaced at the top of the crypto market is increasing progressively. From these two coins, I think Ethereum has a greater chance of doing this, due to the centralized nature of Ripple.  ???

Yes, im also agree to you. There’s a high chance of possibility that Ethereum will replaxe bitcoin in the top of cryptocurrency. Well, We all know that Bitcoin is the King of Cryptocurrency but Ethereum has a higher demand right now. Many investors are investing in Ethereum rather than bitcoin because of its possibility to increase its price. But, we cannot predict future. We just need to wait for the results.

No one know but I think that will take so much years because Bitcoin has the highest volume and price as compared from all crypto currencies. Bitcoin is the mother of all currencies. Bitcoin is also worldy known and being use by many merchants as alternative mode of payment.

No, Bitcoin won't be replaced by either Ethereum or Ripple. They differ way to much to conquer with each other. Ethereum was created to handle smartcontracts, tokens, dApps and so on. Ethereum doesn't scale really good, it has performance issues for example during distribution of tokens of a big ICO. As far as I remember, the price of Ethereum's transaction fees surged in December thanks to the release of crypto kittens which were nothing more than just images of cats. Ripple technically was designed for payments, but I don't think anyone (beside bankers) would trust a centralized cryptocurrency. To create a Ripple wallet you have to spend 20 XRP, that's a big disadvantage for me.

Bitcoin will not be replaced despite the continued rise of better coins in any case than Bitcoin, the newly emerging coins will only add to the fame of Bitcoin in the wider community..

Possible but not likely, at least for now. ETH sure have a high demand, mostly because of the ICOs but many of those don't make it past a year and just get dumped. Bitcoin had a very large headstart and it'll take some time to equal the value already invested in it.

Of course it is possible that an altcoin could replace bitcoin, however, I don't see ripple being the one to do that. Ethereum could have the potential to dethrone Bitcoin, but there are other blockchains that could accomplish that as well.

I have no doubt that promising ICO projects will replace bitcoin within the foreseeable future, because why should a skilled investor pay $9,000 or even more for an average coin while he can get a promising coin for only $15? This does not make much sense and shows that most bitcoin investors are simply clueless.

yes, both are altcoins that I predict will replace bitcoin in the future. ETH has high spreading and large volume, but ETH growth is still unstable because its value is far from bitcoin and volume is still little. so ETH will not be able to pursue bitcoin prices until bitcoin supplies run out.

I think it is possible. It already got pretty close earlier this year to bypassing BTC's market cap. That said, the rally over BTC at the time was largely driven by ICO hype combined with BTC fork fears. ETH in its current state doesn't scale anywhere near as well as it should for a dApp platform, though it's not like investors aren't aware of this - Vitalik and others have been very transparent about the challenges involved in scaling.

So when the naysayers talk about cryptokitties slowing down the network, yeah, those of us that have been following ETH for a long time knew this would happen. Doesn't mean these issues can't be solved, though. If ETH successfully implement PoS and sharding I'm about 90% sure it will top BTC in market cap.

I don't trade any of the smaller coins anymore, aside from XMR. I think there will be a big consolidation of money into quality projects if there's another crash. In that respect if you're staying in crypto I think you can't go wrong with either BTC or ETH.

      Maybe it is not impossible someday for ethereum to place in a higher rank but not at this moment and this generation. It is still far between bitcoin and ethereum in term of value and uses. Bitcoin is still the king of all crypto even it drops many times it always survived and rise up,it has a many uses like for payments and buy good and services which ethereum are not. Ethereum use widely specially in ICO's and the best investment also but it is not only the way to replace bitcoin throne since bitcoin already known worldwide,ethereum still at the back.

To replace bitcoin I think it is very hard but nothing is impossible, and maybe the long run could happen because of the ethereum that many people are interested in.

Personally, I think other coins will surpass bitcoin in market cap for sure, but bitcoin will always be the standard and what you use as the currency. I could see ETH surpassing BTC in cap, but ETH wouldn't become the new standard, it would just be ETH = 1.6 BTC or something.

I don't think so. All alt currencys are pegged to btc. If you want to swap , you almost always go via btc. If you have to pay tax, then pegging it all to btc would also be probably be done. Changing it would require divine intervention, even if the successor is better .

we all have our own opinion on this, For now it is very hard to replace bitcoin but i think when the time comes and when the bitcoin is very very hard to mine and no more left to mine bitcoin, that will be the time when ethereum (we know that almost all ico project used eth on trading and buying so eth has a big potential) maybe replace bitcoin, but we can think that bitcoin maybe an antique in the future that because of the demand the value will sure sore up, we don't know what will happen in the future, but we hope that bitcoin will hit more that its peak this year.

Theres a possibility for ETH to overtake Bitcoin in the long run but not for now. XRP has a slight chance. Bitcoin is consider to be the superior coin and unreplaceable with any alts.

It is not impossible that this could happen if Ethereum and Ripple market capitalization could exceed Bitcoin. One reason why Ethereum could replace the bitcoin rankings is the unlimited supply of Ethereum that keeps growing market capitalization, while bitcoin is a crypto whose supply is limited so bitcoin does not increase in demand then the price will slump and lower market capitalization.

Ethereum or a newer smart contract platform might overtake BTC, but I highly doubt that would ever happen.
As for Ripple, just no, its a shitcoin. Why do we want to do all this cryptocurrency stuff to make banks more efficient? Do people realize that banks wont even actually use the XRP coin for the platform? Most of all, why would anyone want to use the most centralized coin in the world? It is just about as decentralized as a reserve bank.

The current rank 3 and 4 on CMC do not deserve those spots. Good thing EOS is coming to take those. Hopefully something else that is deserving can steal the other one.

Actually, I don't think that ETH or Ripple Can Replace Bitcoin. Yes, they are a very good coin and their reputation and roadmap also very good. But  Bitcoin lives in the sky then ETH is trying to go the sky. Bitcoin is the king and the base of all cryptocurrencies. Ethereum can hit 2500 USD very soon. But Bitcoin will hit 30K USD! Because untill now i cannot see any crypto that is near to bitcoin. Although some crypto are good, like ethereum. Bitcoin is the first, and so surpasing it will never be easy. So lets all support bitcoin and lets all go to the moom.

I have my hopes on ethereum. I believe that ethereum has the potential to grow more in the mere future. Ethereum is now famous in the cryptocurrency market and it keeps growing thats why if there is a coin that can go rival with bitcoin, it is ethereum only. But even i truly believe ethereum, i cant still see it to beat bitcoin. We don't which coin may takeover bitcoin in the future, but i do know that its not going to be ripple or XRP. A "centralized"(ripple having control over 60% of the coins does make it centralized) coin can never take over bitcoin. Even Stellar/XLM has better chance to take over bitcoin than XRP.

My viewpoint, Ethereum is the best coin of crypto market, they have a professionally team that always give innovations about technology to do Ethereum is more and more better. No way. Especially for ripple... Bitcoin can be replaced for sure but not now and not with these coins. Bitcoin can be Nokia and some other coin can be Apple someday. I can think of a new project replacing BTC, but not top 30.

I think it would be very difficult to have a strong enough altcoin to beat Bitcoin especially the Ripple. I believe that XRP will perform well on the market wall down the road but I am not a great fan of it in cryptocurrency due to the controlling issues. Absolutely, no Ripple can replace the BTC, BTC is now the king of the Crypto market. It is not easy for another coin to replace the BTC in a short time. It takes more than 10 years to replace the BTC.

I also think ETH will replace BTC someday. ETH is growing fast, and catching up BTC. You can see how the ETH founder commented BTC on YouTube and get convinced. But xrp won’t replace any coin, because it is centralized.

I think it will not happen. the basic thing is the reason is both the coin could be said always, the programme on bitcoin. Ripple did have good news but with a centralized system, I think it will be difficult to develop in some years to come.

I think it will never be replaced by ETH or XRP even though their volume demand has passed the BTC would still not be replaced by the first crypto,indeed their potential for passing BTC values is quite calculable but still far from my logic.

For me bitcoin is the digital gold so people will not use it for daily life but for store of value like gold did. Yes, its hard for any altcoins to replace bitcoin because due to popularity of bitcoin more and more investors are grabbing on it, the popular are the most profitable one and makes it volatility as advantage for the investors. I dont think it can happen especially with ripple. The three coins has different purpose why they are created and even if many rising competitors come along the way it doesnt mean btc will become obsolete for the reason btc is the most established cryptocurrency and the pioneer of all existing coins.

As we can see if we track the past history, btc overcome big crashes due to huge supporters who keep trusting and supporting it and I think its a clear indication of btc's strength and domination that cant be break by other altcoins.

Ethereum will have the chance to replace Bitcoin only if the implementation of Lightning Network on BTC fails. Ripple will never replace Bitcoin, because we all know that this is banksters tool and nobody who made research about this coin will invest in such a heavily manipulated currency.

BTC is I suppose still finding a purpose - for so long as it is number one then it will remain a store of value coin, but if it fell from the top then maybe something else would take its place. In future Ripple has the potential which can be replace the demand or surpass the price of the Bitcoin. That because Ripple is used world wide in the banking sector legally.
