Ethereum has been steadily on the rise for a good while now, and this first half of Q1 2020 has proven that they have brought that same energy into the new decade. They have started 2020 with a bang, more than doubling in value in just 2 months.

Ethereum start first quarter good and im sure we will get good profit here by holding this coins.  But don't expect that ETH can overtake bitcoin and become number 1, ethereum need more development and also need to fix the problem of scammes using thier platform to create coins and scam many people.

The question is wrong, it's not possible that ETH will take the number 1 spot and kick btc on its rank now.
Even if ETH has a good increase but all is attributed to the bullish movement of bitcoin, there's no major thing that cause ETH to rise, and even if its ETH 2.0 will launch this year, I still think it's not enough for people to choose ETH and leave Bitcoin.

I think the better of way of saying it is, is Ethereum will remain the second spot? As you know, no one can replace Bitcoin when it comes to the number one spot, it was already discussed on different threads that there are a lot of altcoins who are better than BTC but will not replace the original, I hope this makes sense.

Ethereum will need and additional 142 billion usd before it can surpass the bitcoin market capital so this dream is kinda difficult to achieve by this year. And if you will closely check the market the bitcoin dominance is still very high which is currently sitting at 63% so we can conclude that the chances for ethereum to replace bitcoin by this year is 0%.

Even if the increase of ethereum is kinda good but if you will also check the bitcoin is also increasing and frankly speaking the ethereum is still very dependent to bitcoin because once the bitcoin price will decrease the ethereum will also follow.

Personally, I believe that the Ethereum coin will reach its limit and by the end of the 3rd quarter Ethereum will be within $ 1,000. The whole forecast is indicated by analysts who very thoroughly know the whole big picture of cryptocurrency. And accordingly, the Ethereum coin is very promising and will bring tremendous profit to all coin holders.

This coin is really promising if you choose to invest long-term, but it may not always be able to raise prices steadily in the long run. Of course Ethereum can reach $1,000 if the price of Bitcoin rises as this is the only coin that can make the entire market recover. Ethereum is one of the strongest altcoin and one of the coins that are showing good movement this first 3 months of the year, we can expect more from ethereums price as time goes by this year but will surely not beat bitcoin in the market now. I don't think ethereum can be the 1st place in 2020 because we still have bitcoin that is on the 1st. As long as bitcoin still leads the crypto, ethereum will not have a chance to beat bitcoin, and ethereum will be behind on bitcoin. But ethereum can be a 2nd in the crypto market, and maybe ethereum can be a king for the altcoin because now ethereum is already got a second-place under bitcoin. I don't think the price of ETH can continue to go up this year. Even the price of ETH could not surpass $ 400 because the current market has cooled and bitcoin did not grow like every investor had expected this year.

Anything can happen, especially in this kind of investment where volatility is high. If somehow Bitcoin goes down, most of the alts would too, but if the people don't cash out their money and just convert it to Ethereum or other alts, then that is one way there is to be in the 1st rank, but only only eth, xrp is a good candidatee too.

Really of all years 2020 the halving year, this is a big joke if you think Bitcoin can be overcome by any coin this year, when everybody are predicting how high Bitcoin can get this year, we have this kind of questionanyway, it's only a few weeks before April fool's day.

Ethereum, of course, from the very beginning showed good growth in price and a quick update of its technologies and capabilities, and as we see to this day, demand for ethereum services and technologies is only growing, but unfortunately ethereum will not be able to overtake bitcoin, but ethereum will always be at second place.

I agree what you have said in your post but i do not agree with what your post title says, i mean Eth is obviously nicely positioned to boom from here and after multi years of downtrend and also with so many upgrades lined up we all know that Eth is poised to go north but i do not think that it is that easy to be number one in terms of market cap, even if it happens i do not think it will happen quickly, it will take quite a long time and only gradually and obviously not this year.

I am expecting more for ethereum for this year, and even if the major causes really influenced a great market. Although there's some struggles might affect our decision making, but still eth obtained a good trend as of now. This will took place next to bitcoin as it bounces a progressive value in midst of pressures in trading.

Honestly, I wouldn't be shocked if the market would crash this year and it ends up being twisted and shattered with ethereum on the first place, but it's hard for me to imagine what kind of event could do such harm to bitcoin. Actually it is true that ETH had a good growth during the beginning of year and gave holders good profit, also from the look of things there is still more room to grow. However, saying any coin will take the number position in the crypto market is far from being true or being achievable. The number of people that values Bitcoin is much, in fact there are many people who holds only but Bitcoin as the see Bitcoin as the only decentralized cryptocurrency. Also, it is a fact that ETH is also a good coin on its own but overtaking bitcoin won't be possible in the same way, once there is an uptrend in price both Bitcoin and every other good coin will experience it not only ETH..

Will Ethereum be taking the 1st place in 2020? No. Not a chance, yes as we can see in the chart Ethereum had a good run between December upto the mid February having $288 as high last February but there were up and downs. And as February closes Ethereum falls down and remains quite flat at $230. Comparing it to Bitcoin's movement, it looks quite the same having a good start in the beginning of 2020 and even spike up last February then falls down in the end of the month. IMO, it seems to be almost the same in its movement, and may be bitcoin's market movement highly influence ethereum. Hence, there is no chance for ethereum to take over the number 1 spot.

In regards to market capitalization, I don't think bitcoin will ever be overthrow as the most tradable coin but in regards to gains, ethereum truely has what it takes to achieve such milestone. It's very capable of been the most profitable coin of 2020 both 1Q and 2020 in general.

Bitcoin hype is underway, halving effect will definitely influence the price of bitcoin in the coming months, although ethereum is benefiting now doesn't mean bitcoin isn't going to dominate when it's time is right.

ETH has $25 billion marketcap while, BTC has $166 billion marketcap, we can see the big difference here.

Again I agree, with the dominance of bitcoin that is dominating the entire altcoins, no altcoins would easily replace its position in the market.

The difference and logical understanding of bitcoin and Ethereum's comparison is easy to determine. The market capitalization of Eth is way lower than bitcoin and it's unable to surpass it even during the bull run.
It's hard to see that bitcoin will be gone out of its position and being replaced by Ethereum. I have never imagined that someday it will be there at the top and bitcoin will be out of it.

We already many thread like that in every forum and have the same answer, " no and never ". That's our final opinion and will survive until 10 - 20 years, the opportunity too small. This moment we see many people release their analysis but ignore reality. I have read many times this kind of question about Ethereum if this will taking first in crypto. Through this year it cannot surpass bitcoin. The supply is not be a problem since he can only surpass bitcoin in overall marketcap not in the supply .

eth can maintain its position on the market but there are times that it can get dethrone of other coins that are doing good . and yeah eth shows a good performance this year compare to bitcoin because its value finally recovered and didnt go down yet  while btc is still verry unstable  . however this isnt enough for both coins to change sides because btc still got alot of demand and its price is still higher compared to eth .

It goes like this, Ethereum is a good platform but to replace Bitcoin as number 1 can never happen. Ethereum needs more development, it needs to constantly make people attractive to it as it is not the only altcoin out there and this can only be done if there is efficiency. Ethereum needs to be more scalable so as to continually maintain its competitive advantage as the market is getting highly competitive. We remember in the past that ETH was replace by XRP and then it was able to take it back, but we have BNB and other major altcoins that is a threat for ETH but all of them combine is never gonna be a threat for bitcoin.

I have always been a fan of ethereum. i exchange other currencies with eth and believe ethereum remains the one true smart contract platform far more better than the rest. been the second most successive crypto in the coinmarketcap makes it amazing. i believe the future of smart contract lays on ethereum.  with the high rate of crypo making good moves recently, i am seeing the eth scaling pass 300usd price.

I'm trading on yobit right now, something is hooked on this platform, and so. There Ethereum comes first) I understand that yobit is not on the list of the best cryptocurrency exchanges. From your topic, I don't think Ethereum will be in the first position in 2020, not even in the next decade. Because Bitcoin won't give it that chance.

How ethereum can beat Bitcoin? Is it possible for Ethereum to beat Bitcoin? I think no because Bitcoin's cap is 6 times higher than Ethereum. I believe Ethereum is the best altcoin and most popular coin after Bitcoin. Bitcoin will remain 1st and Ethereum 2nd place and this is reality.

Every coin will follow the leader ( btc ) I agree with you but from 2019 ethereum try to built their own trust and market out side bitcoin, if success even bitcoin goes down ethereum will stagnant ( no more impact ). XRP is good choice but need more time and combination with other platform to increase rank and volume. This coin already have basic performance, only need new up date information about work together with other platform, gaming and gambling are really recommended. No i don't think so. Of course Ethereum start very well in this year but beating btc is quite impossible right now. Look at coin market cap and see how much difference between their market cap. They are updating many things and preparing for ETH 2.0 also but although it's not enough to beat btc. They need almost $140M+ to beat btc and it's not that simple. So there is no way eth will be taking 1st place in 2020.

It is difficult to know in advance what will happen, but when investing people only invest in value, Bitcoin will still be better than Ethereum for the time being. If you want to compare the transaction speed, there are many coins faster than Ethereum and a lot cheaper fee. Well, I support some of Lisasteca's statements. it's just that he didn't mention the thing that made ethereum a coin that remained behind bitcoin. apart from those mentioned, ethereum is also the basis for making many of altcoin at this time, even binance, well if I'm not mistaken BNB also uses ERC20. especially when in 2017, the ICO which was really popular in that year also always used the ethereum platform to make their coins. it's just that, I don't think that ethereum can take the position of bitcoin. even at its best in 2017, ethereum can't even come close to bitcoin.

Come on, be realistic when doing such predictions. Bitcoin's max supply is 21 million BTC, Ethereum on the other hand has not cap limit to its supply and its current circulating supply is now at 110 million. The laws of supply and demand alone will tell us that ETH may not surpassed Bitcoin or even near Bitcoin's price be. The most possible way it may surpass Bitcoin is through market cap and even that is a top climb considering that Bitcoin's market cap is almost double on what ETH has right now. And to be honest features alone does not tell anything about how it can be the number 1 crypto in the market, you must also consider the things what I have said to see if it is even realistic.

But as we have seen during the past 4-5 years, that factor alone is not enough to make Ethereum the no.1 cryptocurrency in terms of user-base and market capitalization. Doubt it. If you was around for what people called "The Flippening", Eth almost reached rank one and then crashed back down, so I would imagine the same thing would happen again. As for Ethereum itself being defeated in the future, I think it's possible one day since this space is still very young (maybe even bitcoin eventually too). No matter how steadily ETH has risen, it will just be a mere wish to take the first position. These have been said over and over again and the King has not shifted for once. We all agree that no one doubts the quality and performance of ethereum. But to be number 1 and defeat bitcoin is not possible.
In my opinion ethereum to be number 2 is the maximum result, because bitcoin is too strong to beat. Indeed reality like that,

There is no way that is happening, I think the realistic would be ethereum staying at second place but maybe reaching to over 50 billion in cap, that would be realistic and still good for eth, just a x2.5 increase and that would be not impossible considering x2.5 increase equals to under 500 dollars and with all the halving of bitcoin and proof of stake for ethereum and all of that I doubt it would be that difficult to reach those prices. Hell ethereum actually peaked above 300 dollars just recently a few months ago, I doubt it would be impossible for it to do it again and just put a bit more on top of that as well.

Look at the market, Bitcoin dominance is more than 65%, which the entire volume of Bitcoin should be turned to ETH is really impossible. Even though the price of ETH cross more than 2000$ it cannot secure the Bitcoin position, we should always expect the price of ETH should and it should balance the market so that is altcoin which is implemented in the ETH blockchain will surely increase its price.

There is no altcoins can beat bitcoin even Ethereum and it will stay no. 2 position but it is the king of the altcoins and also good investment.

Of course not, there was a time in which ETH got really close to the market cap of bitcoin but that was when everyone was deeply interested in icos and most of them used the ethereum network to release their projects, but then many other projects similar to ETH appeared and several other forms of raising funds appeared and since then ieos have replaced icos as the favourite way to raise funds, so it is unlikely ETH is ever going to threaten bitcoin to take away its position as the leader of the market.

We have to accept this fact since altcoins doesn’t created to beat bitcoin on top but to help and give people more option under the blockchain technology and that position will only available for bitcoin. On a recent pump, ETH doesn’t failed us because its also active just like bitcoin and its good to know that ETH still remain as the top altcoins.

In other words, no alts will replace bitcoin this year or for the next coming years. It will be years in the making before a coin can replace the popularity of bitcoin. So even if eth has good development, I don't think it will ever replace btc. Maybe in the future, as everything is possible but not now. Also, even if there are alts who are trying to replace bitcoin in terms of its performance, which a lot of projects had already tried before, they will find the toughest challenge of getting users on board.

No coin can compete with Bitcoin because this is the number one coin in this market and all altcoins now rely heavily on Bitcoin's price increase. I think its much better that ethereum stays in 2nd place. If it reached 1st it would suffer heavy speculation and its price would drop violently, to a position where recovery would be too hard.

Also, ethereum is faster than litecoin, monero and dash. Yesterday I sent 2 dollars from one address to the other, and the transaction lasted two seconds, with a fee of 4 cents.

but we need to be open for other alt-coins. From last years Ethereum has some serious competitors, we need

In general, ETH is developing much faster than bitcoin and in some areas (for example smart contracts), it is an undeniable leader. ETH processes more transactions than bitcoin and after switching to ETH2 this gap will increase even more significantly. I think in order to remain the top-1 bitcoin should accelerate its development.

All coins behind Bitcoin are altcoins and will never be able to surpass because this is the father of the crypto market. I personally respect and admire the project team behind their success but I think it's not time to take place to be the number 1 in this year. Wrong,because Bitcoin never been get closed by Ethereum and the market history will tell ys that,So there are no battle at all mate it is just comparison from stupid ethereum supporter but did not even get closer to reality.

We see the stable movement of BTC between $9k-10K zone and from the history, every crypto users are well known that eth price always follows the price movement of Btc. In short, eth price pump when btc pump and same for dumping scenario. Also Bitcoin's marketcap is more than 6x from the marketcap of ETH. So, it won't be easy for ETH to take the first place, IMO. If there is an alt-Bullrun before the Bitcoin's bull run, eth might be come closed enough for the first place.

The comparison of Ethereum with Bitcoin is totally wrong, you can compare Eth with other altcoins like bitcoinABC , BitcoinSV, etc. Bitcoin has no competitor yet because  of it’s decentralisation and fluctuations. Bitcoin has potential to give you 1000$ profit in just few hours while in case of ETh you should hold for at least 6-7 months or may be year.

Since the beginning of the famous bitcoin, so many people have tried to make crypto better than bitcoin. honestly many coins are considered to be able to exceed bitcoin, it's just that until now it hasn't been proven, in fact, they all follow the movements of bitcoin. even some coins have exceeded the price of bitcoin but not many use them and fall.

if talking about ETH heading to the first rank I don't think it will happen. the popularity of bitcoin as you said is still above that of other assets.

I'm not sure that in 2020, Ethereum would be the number one coin. As of 2019, the surge in the Ethereum price is not high. But I am glad that from the beginning of the year 2020 Ethereum price slowly climbed. I read a lot of news on social media that the year 2020 Ethereum price will grow. So this became my consideration ingredient to keep Ethereum hold.

I am very optimistic if this year's Ethereum will give you many advantages. I bought this coin from the year 2019 and currently gives me a profit.

   Bitcoin is highe above others. It's not like any other coins is close to Bitcoin in any way, but still people talk about coins that
can replace Bitcoin.
   Ethereum is great investment, I put it on top right after Bitcoin, but all other coins are far away from these two. I don't say
things can't change, but those changes will not happen in next 10 years or more. And changes come in some far future it's
good to have some other coins that in some theory can replace this first two.

I also think that we can not compare altcoins with bitcoin. Bitcoin will always be number one in this market. If we want to compare ETH, then we must compare it with new altcoins that are constantly appearing

Ethereum still plays a golden rule in a crypto world since most of altcoins are ether based but still she is always a queen and bitcoin is king and they are both vital to each other, eventhough its price is not as high as bitcoin but still it is one of the pillars of bitcoin.

If it does happen someday it will certainly change the order of cryptocurrency that we know that now their average conversion using bitcoin is unlikely to be changed by ethereum. although I myself am also sure that such a thing would seem difficult to implement now or in the near future replace bitcoin

Ethereum has always been a good investment option in this market, but to overcome Bitcoin is completely impossible because since the market began, no coin has ever surpassed Bitcoin. Eth cannot be top 1 crypto currency because bitcoin is the first one  pioneered who had been recognized to be wireless  p2p transactions ever made for people to use. Altcoins only was created to back up it features and also to people to have alternatives to use likely to BTC.

This is a very lame comparison because every coin has its own strengths and certainly Bitcoin will always be in the number one position in this market. It is possible that Ethereum has a brighter future, but in order to gain the number one position of Bitcoin, the coin needs to change more because the market capitalization of these two coins is not in balance.

   I agree with you Diskodasa! Bitcoin will be number one, but as you say if Ethereum make some changes, develop further,
we can see changes on top too. But it's not something that can happen quickly, it will take time, and Bitcoin can change and
develop. I am trying to be open minded for everything here, and for all the possible changes that can happen.
