I am just kind of curious if anyone has done any research or has any opinions on which sport they think is the best sport to gamble.  I guess I'm looking for both opinions and hard data.

Personally I bet on NFL Football the most, followed by the NBA, MLB, College Basketball and every once in a while I'll bet on a big Soccer ( football for you Euros ) game like the Classico.  For me, Football by far seems to be the easiest sport to bet on.  Baseball and Basketball are too random and their betting lines tend to be a bit more confusing.  With the NFL only having 16 games vs MLB with 162 and the NBA with 82..It seems like there is much less of a chance for an upset or sloppy game vs the other two where the regular season simply doesn't mean nearly enough.

Just curious what you guys think..

Does eSports count? What basis are we forming our opinions on anyway? How easy it is to profit or just based on interest? Imo, it highly depends on the teams that make up the scene, and how much you actually know about the sports. In my case, I'd take eSports then Basketball, both of which I know quite a bit of knowledge about mechanics and teams. I also like watching Football, but that's it, only watching. I don't really know much about the teams as well as the rules (the less known ones).

The best is the one that you know about it well, best for other does not mean best for us and vice versa.
Sports betting is about our own knowledge IMO, if we are familiar with one specific sport then we should bet on it only.
Indeed we are free to bet on other sports (by following tips, or suggestion from others) but there is no points for betting on something that we do not even familiar with.

NBA. the one and only, though I haven't tried watching any sports  other than that, but I also tried betting on football spanish league tru a little bit of skimming.
As for the reason, this is thr only sports I know ever since I was a kid, and I used to play that on High School, and lastly when it comes to gamble it reallly is easy to understand compared to other games.
I'd rather watch women's volleyball than watching a whole match of baseball 😁😁😁

It depends, a lot, what sports you follow closely.

And this means that any research you do can easily come with inconsistent data or incorrect results. I mean that in Europe most will probably choose (European) football, the Americans may choose baseball or their football, the Canadians maybe hokey... and the answer will depend on the number of answers from each region  ;)

I think you should be betting on the sports you know the most about. To be profitable with sports betting we need to stay up to date on the league, possible transfers and injuries of good players. For me this sport is football. I like to watch the games and played it myself in the past. So staying up to date on my home team comes naturally to me. If I don't know much about a sport I wouldn't bet on it.

In fact, there is an ideological difference for gamblers. There are those who prefer electronic sports.  But there is a majority who prefer to bet on the European leagues, especially the English and Spanish Liga!!! I don't think we can define the favorite sport of the majority of gamblers, so I prefer EPL matches!

This one, it really based on where you are located. I will Asia is on the basketball scene, while European loves their football. So there's no single sports, but I'm sure there are gamblers around that bet on multiple sports as well. It just shows how global the sports is, but certain region is biased on one sports.

I think this automatically correlates to what sport has the most gambling participation by everyone in the world. Whether it's Football or Soccer, the more people it has gambling, the more possible profits you could have.

If you know the different teams and matchups that have advantages over other groups, you would likely increase your chances of winning. If not, then it's better to gamble in a casino, lol.

Additionally, I see boxing as a great sport to bet on as well.

• Gamble what you know and love
• Gamble what you can afford to lose

I guess it's like saying what is your favorite book to read? It should be highly dependent on your own interests. Just like you should research a company before making any share purchases, you will be able to make much better judgement calls on sports that you actively watch. You'll perform way better if you know all the rules around a sport, for instance if you are going to place a last minute in-play bet on a football (soccer) game thinking that both teams will draw.. without realizing that it is a semi-final that requires penalty shoot-outs to decide a winner, you will be totally wasting your money. Personally I like betting on soccer because there are so many games available and sometimes the odds on offer don't reflect how well a team has played recently.

I have to agree that soccer is undoubtedly the most popular sport but I think because of the lockdowns and lack of sports there was a surge in esports and its betting which is why a lot of people prefer betting on electronic sports. If all the sports and leagues are available I would say the best one is certainly soccer with so many leagues.

this dont need research but we are naturaly born with a liking to specific sports and this sport is the best to gamble because we are familiar to it .

football is not my number one sport but its true that footbal is easy to predict if who will win when the game has started because of how hard it is to make a goal but basketball and games that have closed rings are prone to comebacks.

Boxing and basketball for me. I think this will really depend on your hobby and likes. I'm into those two sports because those are the sports that I've been watching since I was a kid and the other sports, I haven't watched them and that's why when I grew old I have no idea about the rules, players and other things that are related to it.

If op has a standard of contact sports then this isn't included. But this is also the other venue that I mostly follow all of the time too.

I mostly bet on NBA, MLB and even NFL but recently I have stopped betting on NBA because the sport doesn't entertain me at all and some weird things have happened recently like you may see how Doncic scored a 3-pointer so things like that happen where a team leads for 3 quarters but suddenly a comeback will happen in the 4th. I rather prefer betting on NFL which is so much more fun to watch and bet.

There I bet a lot on e-sports like Dota2 and LoL matches but only higher level of leagues and in-play after watching the drafts and picks from both teams. Also, I bet on CSGO at times.

The best one for me has to be NFL in terms of profit but the one I enjoy the most watching is actually Dota2 because of how games can turn in a single team fight.

The answer for this question is very personal and will depend on each individual's preferences and experiences. As you are familiarized with soccer and have a personal interest for this specific sport, it's indeed the best option to place bets. But for someone who doesn't like following soccer matches very much, this person should be looking for another sport to bet.
And not only traditional sports like basketball, baseball, soccer are possible options. Any kind of competition between teams or single players can be an interesting niche to start betting on, since the gambler has interest for it and a vast knowledge about the game and the players involved.

Football (or Soccer) without a doubt. I tried basketball before but I hated it. The way calculate the rates makes it almost impossible to have an educated guess. Basketball becomes more like a dice game because of that. Some people like tennis too but I find it very boring.

I only make bets on the sports I love...
football is a sport I love, I almost never make bets on other sports. of course everyone has a different answer, I also see that boxing and golf is still one of the most popular sports for the bettor.

Depends into your interested because not all would have the same perception or likes when it comes to sports so this will vary on someones interest and liking.
On my part then i do like to play most in NBA and next is to Football and next is to E-sports even though it isnt included in the selection but i do

I choose soccer. It is the most popular sport in the game and honestly, in my country, people tend to watch soccer over other sports. There is no channel that broadcast NFL because it is not our culture but you can find 10 channels for football from the small league to the big league, domestic games to abroad games

However, choosing a good game to bet is not as easy. I feel that local soccer teams in my country are easily manipulated by money and referee. Most of the time you feel that the results go against you. Therefore, I usually make my bet on Premier league and Champion League. They are big league so it is hard to centralize. Sometimes I put my money in the England Championship too

The same here. I tried to bet on every sport. Sit on tennis for quite a bit of time. Later found that basketball is more stable like there are strong teams and weak teams and they perform the same in the court: strong and weak. Not like you win the first 4 sets at 40:0 and then end up losing the tiebreak at 4-6.

There's really no best sport that everyone is gambling, we gamble based on the sports that we personally love, and since I love basketball, I do gamble on that specific game in different league such us NBA, chinese league, Japan and mostly in our local basketball.

In terms of research, it's easy to make a research on NBA since it's a bigger league and more people are putting up information that is vital for our analysis.

E-sports now has been most gamblers want to bet since physical games were suspended due to the pandemic and everything was made on E-sports. I guess you may also consider that.

I'm into boxing and Basketball more, but based on my experience, it's easier to follow basketball as they have one season and a lot of teams are competing.

In major sport in basketball like NBA, they have daily games so that makes it more fun if we like to bet regularly, not only that they have games daily, they also have a lot of games for us to bet, more option the better as we can choose the best game or even bet on all of them if we are like looking for some extra fun.

Personally, it is not about which sports is best to bet on but which sports you are most familiar with, or more specifically which sports you are are closely following.

As for me, NBA is the easiest since, unlike boxing, MMA, and so on, it has a lot more games to bet on. But normally I am only drawn into it more during playoffs rather than during the regular season. The same goes with my favorite eSports DOTA II. Minor tournaments don't excite me much. The plays and execution accuracy are not the ones you expect from the players and the teams when they are in minor tournaments as compared to when they are at a major tournament or the championship rounds.

During the pandemic, the best sport that i've bet on is probably the NFL, esports, football and lastly basketball. What I like most about the first three is that most of the matches are scheduled during the weekends. They're not always easy to predict since home advantage could mean little to certain teams but it could go both ways as there are teams that dominate on road games and there's tons of injured players this season that affected the top teams significantly.

The NFL was first in my list because the last regular season was too predictable even with the injuries, there was a few upsets at the start but after that it's mostly favs winning. While the other leagues like the NBA and top football league becomes much harder there's too much inconsistency (similar to tennis) it felt like you're better off live betting if you want a better line.

I find Tennis to be the easiest sport to make a betting. My early day wins were through Tennis. I go with Tennis for a simple reason, when I was new to gambling I don't have much knowledge about Tennis. Myself used to gather data related to the players and the win probability. Later used to select the odds based on the suggestion from sites particularly functioning for it. With tennis it is good to prefer live Betting.

Maybe we can add darts to the equation here. I mean we got Basketball, Football, Boxing, American Football, and other contact sports that are already in the betting arenas. But if you are also going to ask me, then it is also good to add esports now like DOTA and Fortnite or League of Legends as they are also good for the market and there is a potential profit in the part of the betting establishments due to the sheer number of supporters of esports.

you are often going to bet for a team or an athlete if you have been a fan already. it's easy to bet on NBA since these teams are often being discussed on TV which you can compare already who would likely win the games. but if you are not following the sport, you best not to try betting on it. for aged guys who had outgrown online games, esports will not be in the equation.

basketball is usual because friends are normally talking about it and betting on their own. boxing and mma will make your mind work because you can analyze which guys have the advantage and which fighter is a match that will likely beat the other.

Depending on what sport you are betting, some sites offer live betting on some games. The odds can be alot lower and I would only bet single games not parlays, but I think a bettor can do a lot better in the long run betting live games and seeing some of the action before placing the bet.

I am not sure if there is research or study about the best sports to gamble because that will depend on a gambler itself, and they will search for the sports games that fit what they want. It does not close that they will have more than one sports game, so it will be hard for them to choose the best sports to gamble. But I see that football and basketball have a big fan, and they select that for their favorite games. In some countries, the fan will like rugby which is not popular in the other country.

Bet on sports that you know and have interest in so you would know what team to bet.
Don't force yourself to bet on a sports that you don't know you wouldn't enjoy watching it and wouldn't feel excited or what about the match.
Learn to enjoy it not just bet on it, For me it is better that way so if you won the bet it isn't just the bet that you would feel good of but also the match.

If esports is included then I would bet on games like dota 2 or mobile legends as I am also players of games like that. I also play first person shooter game like crossfire or CSGO. if esports is not included then i'll bet on basketball or volleyball rather than betting on sports that you don't know how to play. Not saying that it's the best sports to bet but it's what I would bet.

In my opinion, the easiest sport to bet on is Soccer.

^ You have a make sense on this, because even me, I only place a bet when I know what sports it is. I don't have an idea of football or soccer games technically and ideally. Probably basketball game only I can understand and know whose team that has a good performance that potentially can able to win. From my own perception, basically I will go where I feel comfort. I believe that most of the people like sports and will go for sports betting. I wager on usually just NBA and soccer, those are the only games I know. I used to wager on more stuff, boxing, ufc, even super bowl (not other nfl games) and some other stuff, I once even did tennis but that was just one time and I was bored. Why not other games? Because I do not personally watch other games, anyone who loves watching Tennis would wager on tennis, anyone who watches golf would wager on golf, but I do not like it when people wager on sports they do not watch.

I also wager on F1, no idea if that's called sports or not, I feel like racing and sports are different things, but I just wanted to put it out there since I wager on that a lot as well. At the end of the day, NBA, Football and F1 is more than enough, you have so many games that I literally do not have enough money to wager on all the games I want to wager, sometimes I just lack bankroll.

I think the answer to this question can vary from person to person. I think you should only bet on the sport you really know. In other words, betting on areas that you do not follow and whose dynamics you do not know is a kind of gambling.

For example, if you have no knowledge of the NBA, what strategy will you follow when betting on any match. You have to wait for a positive result as if you rolled the dice.

But if you are someone who knows the NBA dynamics, the performances and player structures of the teams playing that match, everything will be much more meaningful and easy.

As for me, it depends on a person's preference when it comes to sports. We must have enough knowledge about the sports that we're betting on so we should choose the ones that we know at least the mechanics and the game rules as well as the capability of the players. Wow, a lot of responses, which I appreciate.  I've read through a good chunk of them, but not all yet.  One general "thesis" I am seeing is people arguing that there really is no one sport that is better to bet on than another, but really more so just about personal preference/what you enjoy most.  Now I do agree that it makes the most logical sense to be on the sport that you have the most interest/knowledge in.. therefore of course giving yourself a leg up as much as possible...However... I do feel like there are some sports that are simply more difficult to bet on just period. Take MLB and NFL for example, the MLB plays 162 games vs 16.. Baseball has without question more confusing betting odds and since there are 162 games there's a much better chance for variability game to game..same kind of goes for the NBA..having so many games makes any one regular season game in theory meaningless and that does effect how players play.  Where as with the NFL there are only 16 so they are always trying as hard as possible, creating less variance.

I really do think there is hard data somewhere in here..I'm just not smart enough to put it on paper. 

For me, it's definitely Soccer because I've been a player of the same sport for a very long time and also follow many different leagues. I mostly love the over/under bets that I get for the goals while moneyline bets are not my favorite. Next ones I follow are Basketball (especially NBA) in which again I only place bets on over/under points betting and Horse-Racing in which I go for 1-3.

Well, eSports are making their noise during the past year in Sportsbooks. Traditional Sports are always there, it became a business, to be honest.
But if you are going to check, if you may also consider placing bets in eSports, I think it might also work for you ^{[just in case you also play the game]}. But going back to traditional Sports, I would choose NBA as basketball is the mainstream. Some sportsbooks can actually give almost accurate favors and that results in the best odds. NFL is not bad as well, but if we’re going to compare it to NBA, perhaps NBA would stand out a little bit.

In my opinion, the best sport to bet is a football match. It is the favorite of most people in the world and many people join betting on this field as well. Moreover, for a football lover like me, it is a hobby to analyze which team possibly wins on the match. So, it can be easier for me to bet in a football match. Also, it can be so happy once I bet my favorite team to win on a match, then it really comes true. Seems like I get a double bonus.  :D

This is exactly what I am thinking. Based also from users' opinion, it shows that they like a specific sports to bet on if they are familiar with it at least. So for me, if you are a bettor, the best sports to bet on is the sports that you are most familiar with, whether NBA, soccer or boxing. As long as you are comfortable with that sports and you are very familiar with the sports, I guess, you will be more contented in placing bets.

In terms of your EV for your bets, as long as the betting markets are liquid, you're going to get approximately the same long run results across any of the games.

I personally prefer NBA for its unpredictability. Unlike tennis and other individual sports, favourites are upset much more easily and when they do you can reap yourself a handsome payout given that odds on the underdog are usually not too shabby.

But you should just go with whatever game you enjoy watching. The actual deviations in terms of betting odds are so tiny they're negligible.

I am a Tennis lover and I love placing bets on points and total games. I also follow some tipsters who give good Handicap bets on their channels and discord server on a daily basis. I mostly bet on ATP games and sometimes, I look for women's games only as I have deeper knowledge about their gameplay and accurately know about the winning lady.

I've tried gambling on NBA, and European Football. But personally, the best sport to bet on will be the sport that you know most about as a gambler. Doesn't matter if it's something as big as Esports or as passive as Chess. As long as you know how the game is played, and how each players fare against each other, you'd be bagging wins, because there's always going to be a high-roller in every gambling field that you can get a score on if you know what you're doing.

It’s gotta be whatever sport you’re most familiar with, right? I pretty much only watch basketball regularly so that is the only sport I bet on outside of the random fight here and there. I’m more of a casual bettor though I guess and usually only do so for the entertainment value. If I’m not going to watch an event, I’m somewhat unlikely to bet on it.

This is the right choice. Bet on the games/matches in which you're familiar. Only then it is possible to make better predictions than making wild guesses/random picks. If you're lucky even the wild guesses will bring win win to you. Sports betting is all about fun and most of the time much expected matches were easily guessed, but it is hard to guess the win of players that aren't much familiar.

Betting on the sports on which we are interested and watching continuously will be profitable and easy to predict. Personally I have tried to bet on other easily predictable sports on which I'm not having too much interest and rarely watching but due to my friends and their comments I somehow managed to predict the final results but in such games, we are getting very low odds hence I stopped betting on them. Yeah, easily predictable games are yielding  very small profits as most people are on right side.

Personally I cannot figure out which sport is best to me to gamble with. I have similar profit levels across cricket/NBA/football. When we are following some team and betting on them then it will be always profitable.

Well, the best odds in the bet define the answer, sometimes it is not a matter of the sport that you have more information, soccer may always give profit you every weekend and for you it is the best sport to bet on, but not always That gives you a good profit due to the theme of the favorites in soccer.

So sometimes putting the bet on certain sports that are not usual but that give good odds, can be the best sport to bet on that day, sometimes individual sports are a great alternative.

You are a legendary gambler because you only put your money where your mouth is. I also watch the games I bet on, but sometimes the streams of some games are not available, so I need to watch on the virtual display that the gambling site shows when the game is ongoing. And I sometimes gamble on games that I'm probably not going to watch due to some work but I guess that our confidence in the player as well as the game serves our purpose many times and we win the game with insane differences.

The best sport to put your gamble on is the sport and the team that you know best. This requires you actively researching about your favorite game, your favorite team, and how they will fare against other teams at the same game. It depends on the purpose for which you are placing your bets. If for the sake of making money, then you need to choose a more predictable sport, if in order to tickle your nerves, then less. For example, it is believed that men's and women's tennis are very different in predictability, since women are less emotionally stable and during a match the situation can radically change several times.

I'm not sure it's really about which of the sports should be considered "the best" since sports gambling is a matter of personal preference. But judging based on other factors like the odds, I think basketball is the sport that I've seen the biggest odds getting splashed even on fixtures favorites. Even the O/U total points markets also feature high odds compared to the similar markets on other sports like soccer O/U total goals market. Like I said, it ultimately depends on the gambler and which sport they prefer putting their money on.

I agree, if you are playing for money personal preferences shouldn't be decisive. If you are watching games and just want the thrill while watching, well, obviously you place your bets on the sport you like to watch the most.

I once placed 9 bets on a Bundesliga match day, 8 games were correct and now the 9th game was about to start. That was the real deal in terms of fun and thrill. :P

For money though nobody would put 9 games down on a single betting ticket. Just doesn't make any sense.

sports betting is quite hard to predict, but not impossible.

I thought I'll save that part of the story for later. :D The last bet was on a win for the home team which was first in the league playing against the last. They led the game 2-0 and it turned out to be a draw in the end!!!!! :D 2 - 2, omg...

This is ages ago and I couldn't easily secure the bet with a counter bet online. It is like 15 years ago or so when we still filled out those betting tickets. Fun time regardless can say for sure! :)

That is not difficult because we only research our favourite team info and do not research many teams. But if we can collect more info about the opponent team, that can help us know how big the percentage for each team to win. Maybe that can determine us to choose the right team so we can win the game.

I don't think we need to go for researching each team wise when we are really interested on watching one particular sport. I mean if you are continuously watching all the games in one sport then definitely you will be having good knowledge about all the teams and this way you can bet on your favorite team more accurately.

This question is rather a subjective one as it depends upon the interest of the person betting. To be honest, if I do not know anything about the sport, I would not risk my money into betting a team which is considered 'dominant' without knowing any of its fundamentals.

Agree. Football (soccer) is one of the best sports games for gambling. Despite the game is fast, that does not affect much on the result. Compare  it with hockey for example. Just count how many times the puck moves from home team field to visitors per minute. With each attack there is a high probability that there will be a shot to goal. Now football - the ball moves from player to player, same as puck. But in most cases it is 1-10 minutes of "pass-pass-pass-pass-pass-ball lost-pass-pass-pass-pass-corner/offside)".

It would depend if you are considering profit or fun. For me, basket is more fun because the games go up and down, it is quite difficult to predict and there are continuous scoring. However, football is better if you intend to make a profit, because the teams tend to perform on a more regular fashion. I do not know enough about hockey and boxing, but my friends say that they are mostly for fun betting.

Yeah esports got me considering profits compared to any other sports in my more than five years of gambling. You have to at least have some experience playing the eSports that you are voting so you can decide which team is going to have a higher chance of winning. Not really, it's not like you can like all the sports there is. I find MMA much better than Boxing because you can use almost everything that your body has to win. NFL is just glorified and wimpy kids Rugby with all that armor. Golf for me is just standing and swinging, much like baseball but the ball is not flying at you.

For me personally, I've found most success in Tennis and the players are a lot more predictable than lets say NBA or Baseball. Football could be very profitable as well but it could get a little complicated(but has more arbitrage opportunities). NBA playoffs can be good to bet on as you expect both teams to be actually trying hard to win the game. Regular season, teams try to experiment or rest their players a lot. If you do not have reliable information, it could end really badly. Way too many upsets happen in NBA regularly.

Hmm, betting into eSports may be a little tricky especially if you have little to no idea on what team you are betting one.

Personally, I have gambles most of my resources into eSports and a huge reason for that was my addiction towards computer games. I was able to analyze every team and their picks, see their recent matches, and their win-rate against certain teams so I could at least increase my chances of winning. But if you do not have any prior knowledge as to the game that you are betting on, it is like you are punching your fist in the air and hope for a win.

I watch a lot of snooker and I think I know the sport quite good, but even then it is not always simple to bet on it.

IMHO, the best Sport to bet it on is the Sport where you're interested into and have enough knowledge about the game, the association, the players, and even the coaches. These knowledge maybe enough to let you analyze match ups and mitigate the possibility of lossing even betting against the odds.
NBA has been a good betting for Sports for me, simply because I can bet like 3-5 times everyday as there are usually 8 games and 16 teams are playing everyday.

You are correct but at the same time you are not, esports in theory are no different than any other sport in the sense that in order to be profitable you need to know a lot about the esport you have selected, however the main difference strives in the fact that esports are relatively new and the updates to the game can make it literally a completely different game and casinos have no way to accurately price the games as they do in traditional sports, which means it is easier for the player to get an edge over the casino if he knows the game very well.

I honestly could not get one point here; if NBA betting is profitable for someone does not mean it will be profitable for all other gamblers as well. In my college days, most of my friends love some sport that i hated most but that was their personal choices why myself love some sports. I could watch soccer from morning till night without getting tired but most of my friends can't spent few hours, but for others like porker they can, so, individual difference matters on the type of sport they have passion about. I was not talking about the fractional format in fact, I was taking about the probability of the outcomes to happen. An odds of 1.0(without vigorish) means the outcome has in theory 1/1.0=100% chances to happen and an odds of 1.05, 1/1.05=95% chances to happen. So if you find some bets with odds of 1.1 but 1/1.05 or 1/1.0 chances to happen in reality, you will make profits at the end.

Sure, you do get a small profit but the risk isn't worth it because not all low odds are actually that safe and like i've said before you're forced to make a higher bet with such low odds or put them on a parlay and sometimes these low odds are the ones that could put you on a loss. I somewhere disagree with you on this. Games like Tennis and table tennis are a bit different in terms of injuries and can lead to the player getting retired and your bets going void. That is unacceptable when you are on the winner's side and the opponent retires and your to-be-win becomes a refund. I don't count injury to be the reason to go for the same likes you have (one to one player) but there is a significant fact that these players also show signs of being discouraged when they start losing (can be noticed in so many games), whereas it cannot be the same with teamwork because teams work with more than one player, so motivation keeps rolling in.

Maybe the reason for blocking their faces is because they want to keep their privacy and I have seen some fights where no faces were censored so I think it is safe to say that it is legal and also if it is illegal, as if the government cares.
