Title: [Sell] Cuban Cigars for Bitcoins/Litecoins.
Post by: ColdHardMetal on April 21, 2011, 09:29:09 AM
Prompted by another thread I've decided to put out an offer I've been considering doing for awhile, that being offering to sell Cuban Cigars for Bitcoins.

I'm pretty well connected in the online cigar community, but admittedly have been kind of inactive in the various public forums for the last year or so. I'm a member of a variety of private cigar forums and can find quite a wide variety of sticks. I've made buying trips to Cuba and have executed something close to $25K-$30K worth of cigar transactions, group buys, box splits etc etc with people all over the world, and a fair number of different vendors.

The point of all that is that I'm decently qualified to offer this service and you don't have to worry about getting saddled with fakes, which if you know anything about CCs can be a concern if you are not familiar with your sources.

  • I can order cigars from available vendors, pay fiat, and accept BTC/LTC from you for payment.
  • Make inquiries with the folks I know to see if something specific you might be looking for can be found, pay fiat, and accept BTC/LTC from you as payment.
  • I don't anticipate any travel in the near future, but I have in the past taken travel opportunities to locate and obtain various Regional Edition releases for others.

Terms and Conditions - 2013/05/08: (note that this list may be amended in the future)
  • Shipping will take place from South Korea to the destination of your choice. I've sent upwards of 100 packages containing CCs from here to North America, Europe, and Asia, with none ever having been lost or damaged.
  • The buyer is responsible for any and all customs duties that may be assessed on packages that make their way from me to you.
  • It is the buyers responsibility to be aware of any laws and regulations regarding the import of tobacco products into the jurisdiction of their requested destination.
  • Payment in BTC/LTC will need to be made before I ship anything to you. I will front the fiat for any purchases from 3rd parties and take on the risk of delivery to me.
  • I offer a 10% discount on all orders totaling over $200 USD before shipping

If you think you may be interested please make a post in this thread, PM me, or contact me via email at ccs4btc(at)gmail.com. My GPG key can be found in my signature should you chose to go that route. I've also set up #ccs4btc on freenode if you want to ask questions there or anything.

Depending on where you are located and how much shipping ends up being, it looks like about the best price I could offer is ~65 BTC. Subject to change if rates go nuts at any point prior to an agreement being reached.

That would be about 60 BTC now with rate moves. Again depending on where you need them shipped to.

Putting together a split for another group, but figured I'd stick this here in case anyone is interested.

Fivers consisting of:

1 x Montecristo #4
1 x H. Upmann Mag 46
1 x Ramon Allones Specially Selected
1 x Hoyo de Monterrey  Epicure #1
1 x Cuaba Exclusivo

for a highball estimate of $45 USD including shipping, and depending on what exchange rates I get hit for as I put it all together.

BTC price to be determined by prevailing rates at the time of settlement.

PM if interested, or you can email me at the address in my profile, with any questions etc.

[Interested in buying as a father's day gift]

Thanks :)

I do still have some Obus.

Joyitas are kind of a weird little size that not a lot of vendors carry. Looks like I could you get you a box for something around $185 USD a box shipped, which isn't really a very good price to be honest. I can dig a bit deeper if you want and might be able to do better.

Looks like I can get 15 counts of PSP2s in tubes for about $175 USD, or a 25 count box for about $275, shipped. That would take a little while since they would need to get shipped to me first.

The Alec Bradley isn't a cuban and I wouldn't really know where to look for that. You could probably order that from a US site for a decent price, but I don't know much about NCs.

Shipping from me to the US usually takes a touch over a week, so if you wanted an order in the mail in the next day or so, there is a decent chance you'd have it by Friday the 15th in time for Father's day.

I would be interested in H. Upmann Coronas probably just one or two if that is doable. Great cigar for Knob Creek and coke, or even Makers on ice. Damnit I love living in Kentucky, horse racing, bourbon and a good cigar is as good as it gets.

Looks like I could get some of those for about $7 USD each. I'd need to buy a box though, so you'd need to wait for them to get delivered to me before I could ship a few of them out.

I don't know that I've ever had those either. I like the HU Petit Coronas, and the HU marca in general, so I expect they'd be good. I'd certainly be happy to run a split on a box of those. Getting them all spoken for would be no problem at all.

Wouldn't even know where to start for the AFs. I really know next to nothing about non-Cubans.

You should post a floater on Silk Road Forums...see if any one there is interested.  Customers on Silk Road itself are big on addictive substances and there's a vender absolutely cleaning up on cheap cigs from eastern europe.

I have thought about that. Setting it up is maybe more effort than I'm really looking to get into. I guess if I could post an "is there interest thread" without paying for a sellers account it's probably worth looking into again. Thanks for the idea.

ship to Thailand?

Never have but certainly willing to try. Worst case you get assessed duty on the package and end up having to pay some tax to get your package. Only Americans need to worry about the package getting seized in my experience.

I've always been wondering: Do fine cigars such as these have an expiry date?

Title: Re: [Sell] Cuban Cigars for Bitcoins.
Post by: ColdHardMetal on July 30, 2012, 08:25:19 AM
I've always been wondering: Do fine cigars such as these have an expiry date?

Well, no and yes.

No in that in the same fashion as wine, both being biological materials undergoing a fermenting type process, the complexity and flavor of a cigar will change over time, and generally improve with age. Yes in that, also like wine, a cigar will reach a peak where it's developed as much as it's going to and begins to degrade. That point is decades into the lifespan of a cigar, with no way to predict when that might be other than just smoking one of your old cigars every now and then and seeing how they taste. So I guess you could call that peak the expiration date, but not really in the same sense as the date you find on the milk carton.

People age cigars all the time, and often have quite extensive collections in the same way that wine drinkers will have a cellar full of bottles from many different years.

Epic journey.

Edit: Just tried my first cigar out. Mind you, this is not only my first cuban cigar ever, it's also my first cigar ever.

Now, I fear that any other cigar will be deeply inequitable compared to these.

Great product. I'll probably order some more for a few mates :)

I'll take one of these.

The Mag46 might fit the bill. It's more medium than full body flavored imo. They do have some of that ligero spiciness to it. Other than that I wouldn't say anything I currently have really approaches what you describe. If you have any suggestions I could probably grab a box.

Well, 1/3rd of North America. Unless Canada and Mexico have been annexed by the US since the last time I checked.

And it's not cigars that are illegal, it's transactions that economically enrich Cuba, or something along those lines, that are the actual problem.

As a non-US citizen living in not the US I don't really care.

Inventory is pretty gutted at the moment after a big order. I'll be placing an order for some more boxes soon.

Anyone have any requests?

Looking at getting:

Mag 46s
HdM Epi #1
RASS
PSD4s
QdO Coronas

Can add a few more if anyone wants something specific.

What do you have that's full bodied with a oily wrapper? The more ligero the better.

The Mag46 might fit the bill. It's more medium than full body flavored imo. They do have some of that ligero spiciness to it. Other than that I wouldn't say anything I currently have really approaches what you describe. If you have any suggestions I could probably grab a box.

I don't have any suggestions, sorry. I know very little about the true cuban offerings. I stick mainly to Nicaraguan tobacco.

The selection I have now (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApraDvGtZTsbdGxTZGxreXhHUTRCM0pmakNpU3NkQmc#gid=0) is actually quite different than when you posted before.

I expect the PSD4s I have would fit the bill. Partagas tend to a pretty strong and spicy profile.

I've made buying trips to Cuba and have executed probably close to $15K-$20K worth of cigar transactions, group buys, box splits etc etc with people all over the world, and a fair number of different vendors.

The point of all that is that I'm decently qualified to offer this service and you don't have to worry about getting saddled with fakes, which if you know anything about CCs can be a concern if you are not familiar with your sources.

OTC Rating (http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=coldhardmetal&sign=ANY&type=RECV)
A satisfied customer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484.msg759380#msg759380)
And another (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484.msg866700#msg866700)
And yet another (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484.msg978608#msg978608)

I can offer a number services:
  • Direct sales of cigars I currently possess. Please contact me if you're interested.
  • I can order cigars from available vendors, pay fiat, and accept BTC from you for payment.
  • Make inquiries with the folks I know to see if something specific you might be looking for can be found, pay fiat, and accept BTC from you as payment.
  • Organize group buys or box splits for the BTC community if there is interest. I could also find buyers for any excess sticks if there isn't enough demand for a full box here.
  • I don't anticipate any travel in the near future, but I have in the past taken travel opportunities to locate and obtain various Regional Edition releases for others.

Terms and Conditions - 21/04/2011: (note that this list may be amended in the future)
  • I am willing to do this for a slight markup over purchase prices, with all shipping costs and fees being covered by the buyer. I'm not going to specify a rate at this time as the circumstances around each of the above options, possible destinations etc make it difficult to predict what will need to be done.
  • Shipping will take place from South Korea to the destination of your choice. I've sent upwards of 50 packages containing CCs from here to North America and Europe, with none ever having been lost or damaged.
  • The buyer is responsible for any and all customs duties that may be assessed on packages that make their way from me to you.
  • Payment in BTC will need to be made before I ship anything to you. I will front the fiat for any purchases from 3rd parties and take on the risk of delivery to me.

If you think you may be interested please make a post in this thread, PM me, or contact me via the email address in my profile. My GPG key can be found in my signature should you chose to go that route.

EDITED TO ADD LINK TO CURRENT INVENTORY (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApraDvGtZTsbdGxTZGxreXhHUTRCM0pmakNpU3NkQmc#gid=0)

Limited at the moment, but evolving over time :)

May 7, 2012: Edited to add in some successful transaction references.
This forums been waiting for someone like you. I grabbed a couple "Cuban" cigars (I thought I was so smart and that they were real, cause I knew exactly what the box they were in should look like...maybe I should have been as familiar as what the actual cigars looked like) and they turned out to be fakes. But before that was realized, much interest was generated. And if anyone thinks your prices are high then they don't understand the law of supply and demand. Its truly not easy to get REAL Cuban cigars, nonetheless in the variety and quantity it looks like you are doing. I wish you the best of luck. BTW, in Mexico once I did buy Cuban cigars that I know were real-they were Montecristo minis in a tin, some limited edition. To this day those little blunts were the best cigars I've ever smoked. If you come across those I may be interested!

You should post a floater on Silk Road Forums...see if any one there is interested.  Customers on Silk Road itself are big on addictive substances and there's a vender absolutely cleaning up on cheap cigs from eastern europe.

Link to SR forums: http://dkn255hz262ypmii.onion
You need Tor access this link thru Tor Browser (www.torproject.com)

this.

if you make a SR account then the community will review your service, and there'd be escrow, and I'd consider buying one because I've never tried a Cuban before...

edit: i see now that you have you're own website. but definitely consider SR.

I do think about doing that on occasion. From reading the SR forum I don't think they'd like it very much if there was a method, like this thread, for people do do transactions outside of their system, and I don't really want to shut this thread down. I guess I could always do an "is anyone interested in" thread on the SR forum and see if it's worth the trouble.

If you want to try an order and use an escrow I'm certainly not opposed to that. It would require me changing my shipping method to one that included tracking info, and I'm not sure what that would do to my shipping cost, but if you want to discuss it let me know.

On a related note, I've also gotten shipping notification for a restock of PSD4s, and a box of Cohiba Robustos have been ordered and should be shipping tomorrow.

Well,

Yes and no.

They don't much like it, but that's because going outside of escrow for illegal purchases sets you up for security concerns, prevents them from getting fees, and puts the consumer at a higher risk for getting ripped off.

But people do it. Especially where it concerns legal or semi-legal products like tobacco.

There's a guy on there who goes by the handle "only" who ships cartons of european produced cigarettes from moldova to people for a discount. His business was already established when he joined silkroad, he has a professional clearnet site and everything and doesn't seem to get any hassle.

Perhaps only inhabits these boards and can offer his perspective on this?

Also, during the whole tony76 scam from last year, that guy had setup his own website that people could supposedly use to purchase from him. Before it was crystal clear that the whole thing was a scam I didn't see anyone resenting it.

I'm sure there are other examples of this. Those are just the two that came to my mind.

I think what concerns silkroad more (granted, I haven't used the site in ages so things maybe changed?) is when you use their service to gain customers, but ask them to go outside of escrow, basically screwing the road out of fees.

_______________________________________________________________________________ _______

All that aside though, I've never smoked a cuban before and I'm thinking about ordering through this thread.

Occasionally I go to my tobacco store and pick out a new cigar to try. I seem to like darker cigars, the ones that have a real "bite" in taste.

What would be a good cigar to try for someone wanting to try their first cuban?

Title: Re: [Sell] Cuban Cigars for Bitcoins.

SR Stuff.

Food for thought. I'll maybe take another look at it on the weekend.

If you like stronger cigars either of the Bolivars I have available would fit in that category. I think I'd also put the Ramon Allones Specially Selected in that range as well.

I'm personally a big fan of the H. Upmann Magnum 46. Not as strong as a Bolivar, but with a really kind of creamy smoke is the best I can describe it. Not sharp/peppery, which is what you refer to as bite maybe, so possibly not for you. Describing flavors is always hard.

Montecristo #4s are a pretty popular brand/size. One of, if not the, biggest selling sticks Cuba has going. Not as strong as the Boils and RASS, but still in the ballpark.

The Trinidad Reyes I always find to be little flavor bombs as well, but not everyone feels the same.

i was impressed. it was delicious, and burned very evenly. cuba really does make the best cigars

LOL, you'd be amazed how many times I've heard people say that after their first Cuban. Glad you enjoyed it :)

It was a No 4 by the way. No 5 would be a touch thinner and a bit shorter.

No, sorry. Kind of defeats the purpose of the initiative tbh. Also, PP is thumbs down on tobacco sales and it just isn't worth the potential hassle.

I'm considering accepting LTC if that helps, and maybe Ripple if I can ever figure out how it might be useful.

If you took LTC and PPCoin it'd definitely tempt me to throw more money at you because I'm a lot more LTC and PPC rich than I am BTC. Not that I can't just convert one of them to the proper amount, it's just harder for me to part with BTC for some reason.

Nice job on this! I plan to order some soon.

Question: is that domain or website yours?

OTC Rating (http://bitcoin-otc.com/viewratingdetail.php?nick=coldhardmetal&sign=ANY&type=RECV)
A satisfied customer (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484.msg759380#msg759380)

And yet another (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=484.msg978608#msg978608)

I can offer a number services:
  • Direct sales of cigars I currently possess. See LINK TO CURRENT INVENTORY (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApraDvGtZTsbdGxTZGxreXhHUTRCM0pmakNpU3NkQmc#gid=0) if you're interested.

If you think you may be interested please make a post in this thread, PM me, or contact me via the email address in my profile. My GPG key can be found in my signature should you chose to go that route.

EDITED TO ADD LINK TO CURRENT INVENTORY (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApraDvGtZTsbdGxTZGxreXhHUTRCM0pmakNpU3NkQmc#gid=0)

My favourite cigars are Romeo Y Julieta Coronitos En Cedro, how much for a box of those bad boys?

Depending on where you are located and how much shipping ends up being, it looks like about the best price I could offer is ~65 BTC. Subject to change if rates go nuts at any point prior to an agreement being reached.

That would be about 60 BTC now with rate moves. Again depending on where you need them shipped to.

Scared me a bit until I saw the thread was from 2011.

Are you changing the pricing or keeping it the same?

I price in fixed USD, and BTC prices are determined based on exchange rates at the time a sale is negotiated. So I guess you could say they change and remain the same.

I remember the first cigar I ever had was a Cuban on a cruise..ended up puking over the railing  ;D

The embargo is 98% of the allure for the US market.

I could grab any old five pack with no locale on the band and claim they were Cuban and all my nonsmoking friends would want, neigh, need one, "just to experience it". The huge prevalence of fakes also goes to reinforce this. We're not talking Gucci purses for $10 and Rolexes for $20. We are talking about a huge, predatory market that knows both the idolized status of the CC in history, as well as Americans' blind and senseless desire to break the embargo. There are guys selling tourists $300 glasstops of Cohibas anywhere in the Caribbean or Latin America right this very minute. A couple weeks later ole Jebb decides to celebrate by smoking a Cuban he snuck back from his vacation, and clips the end off his $20 cigar to find a condom wrapper and a grasshopper rolled up inside. Are they Cuban? Sure! Are they good? I mean...I guess you could try one if it'll burn...

Cuba makes everything from garbage to gold as far as cigars go. Get some from a reputable, proven (I assume?) dealer like ColdHardMetal and try them alongside top quality sticks from non-embargoed nations. I think you'll get my point. The locale imparts subtleties upon a cigar, but the blend and roller make the taste and the quality. I just smoked a Flor de Antillas robusto last night with more than two years of age on it that was just heavenly. It was made in Nicaragua by a tobacco family that bailed the fuck out of Cuba when the government absorbed the tobacco industry. Ended up getting Aficionado's Cigar of the Year for 2012.

I just pissed my cigar budget away a few weeks ago on 1 of only 250 boxes of La Gloria 2011 Limitada Flechas made or I'd be all over a box of Upmann's. As soon as I can pull it off under the radar, I'll be snagging a lil' somefin somefin, but I am already gonna be in deep with the ball and chain when I unpack some fancy ass, well polished, handmade cedar box full of expensive looking cigars. There's no explaining that one away or hiding it in the coolerdor.

Anyways, CHM, we'll be chatting in the future. Sorry for the rant. I have a bunch of thread to catch up on.

No question there is a "forbidden fruit" aspect to the whole thing. It really just comes down to personal preference with respect to flavors more than anything. Some people like wine from France, and others prefer from Chile. Same with cigars. Personally I prefer Cubans, so that's what I smoke. I don't really even know all that much about non Cuban cigars, so that's not what I sell. I have had good NCs, almost exclusively Nicaraguan when I think about it although Davidoff makes some nice sticks that come out of the Dominican if I'm not mistaken, but for the most part I don't like the NCs I've tried. Less depth of flavor, and a bit of an odd aftertaste to me.

The main advantage NC manufacturers have over Cuban is access to better machinery. As a result you see a lot less construction issues with NCs than CCs. NCs will also use tobacco from different countries to get a wider variety of blends, whereas CCs are always pure Cuban. NCs won't use Cuban tobacco at all because then they are blocked from the US market. You will see "Cuban seed" blends that are from Cuban strains grown in other countries. They don't have the benefit of the growing conditions in the Pinar del Rio region of Cuba where they grow tobacco, so they aren't quite as good, in my opinion, but not bad.

As far as fakes go, unfortunately there are a lot of fake CCs floating around. See this thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=131536.msg1411292) for an example. Know your vendor being the primary defense against falling victim to counterfeit merchandise. I've spent years in the online cigar community and have a very good knowledge of who is worth dealing with and who isn't, so take that for whatever it's worth.

Anyway, always good to see some discussion on the topic. Look forward to hearing from you.

Some restocking on the way and an updated inventory (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApraDvGtZTsbdGxTZGxreXhHUTRCM0pmakNpU3NkQmc#gid=0)

Also need to announce a slight bump in shipping costs as the local PO has, well, slightly bumped their shipping price. More than slightly really on a % basis, but still pretty reasonable all around.

Hi all,

I have made three purchases from ColdHardMetal now!

Good stuff! He's always responsive and quick to send. Unlike here in Oz you get them with the bands on!

He will help you out. I asked him some questions in a PM and got some good answers. I placed a small order of four cigars and am exited and looking forward to sampling.. So far service is excellent and I am exited to try out the cigars, I have never had cubans, just a few different kinds on special occasions.

I will confirm when they arrive :)

RA Superiores are in hand. MUR MAY12.

3 day thanksgiving type holiday starts here on Wednesday, so shipping is off until Monday, September 23rd as I don't want anything just sitting in the post office if it doesn't have to.

oh someone else sells cubans on this forum! Had no idea. Didn't know what the difference is between goods forum and marketplace forum.

Randy, it is true the allure has definitely a lot to do with the embargo, but still doesn't take away from the many Cubans being made are some of the top cigars in the world that you will find in the most luxurious hotels for sale all the time. Two of my all time favorite cigars are the Cohiba Behike 54 and the Cohiba Maduro 5 Genios, better than any non cubans I have smoked from other top markets.

chsados, definitely some cubans that are stronger than others. The Siglo VI to me is a tad bit too strong, but in the right situation with the right cognac, it is wonderful.

This thread predates that distinction, and I just never got around to moving over to the other section.

Had some sales that cleared out a few items. Link to updated inventory in sig.

CHM, you are amazing. The amount of information you've given me in PM in the past couple of days just shows how truly passionate you are. I'm excited to see the sampler pack you're recommending and will certainly return to leave feedback of my first transaction with you.

Thanks so much for your honesty and prompt communication - happy to give you my business ;)

God no. I like my jaw where it is  ;D

I don't think Cuba even makes something that big. I'll dig around some later today though, and see what I can find.

I was smoking a 7x70 Asylum 13 the other night. Decent cigar, awkward as hell to smoke. I think they make a 6x80 as well.

Ok, looks like about as big as you'll find for a Cuban is a 56rg. Some examples below of things near that, that are readily available. The last 2 I have on hand, and the others could be procured without much effort. There's more variety if you want to get into special releases and what not. Play around with the search function on the site these link to if you want to see the full range. No guarantee a lot of the older releases are easily accessible, but I can certainly ask around if you wanted.

This thread hasn't been active in 2 years, and ColdHardMetal hasn't been online for over a year, so it's safe to assume sales have stopped. Haven't come across any other sellers in a while either, though admittedly I haven't looked that hard.
