Op, don't throw your coins away. If you invest in some scheme you'll likely just lose all your coins and be left with nothing. Just hold them, but if you do choose to invest there is no guaranteed payout and just be aware of the risks.


I'd rather hold the bitcoin. I think there's far bigger potential for profit on bitcoin than there is gold.

Nothing in the world is guaranteed, especially when it comes to investments.  That's why you always see or hear those disclaimers, investing is risky, you can you lose your hat yada yada.

I'd suggest first you read up and learn as much as possible about Bitcoin and Crypto in general, ask questions, then when you feel comfortable about the technology and ideology, only then should you consider getting involved.

Once you do commit, you'll have to take the proper steps like selecting the right wallet for you.  If you plan to buy  a large amount, meaning thousands of dollars, then best to get a secure desktop wallet with paper wallet as backup.  You can download the client here:

Correct. The minute you exchanged fiat into bitcoin, you've already made an investment. The risks on holding bitcoins are significantly lower than investing it in third-party sites. Every time you have the money, try putting a small amount in buying btc then keep it. if the prices rise, try selling a bit then buy during the dips. In that way you'll earn some profit rather than entrusting your coins to people that you don'r know.

Smart trading is all about limiting your risk to the lowest level. Nobody knows or can accurately predict where the market is heading next thus it's good to hedge your position. When I was on fx trading, my worst enemy is basically myself and how to control my emotions. That would be the first hurdle.

There are many new sites being popped up, can't say you should invest in them, but if you see, you will find that many of them are genuine and if you are just headed towards gaining a small amount of BTC lately but for sure, then I think you should go with them. Just don't forget to go with the least risk listed in there.

Best thing would be to just hold your coins, and if you must "gamble" invest into a gambling site bankroll.

The risk is not actually profiting along with not recieving your hardware and getting scammed etc. Like the case with many mining companies they often cannot meet up to what they say about their hardware.

Not to mention... you're fighting Bitcoin's hash and value volatility like this, increasing risk further. If a mining company could make a profit, why would they sell YOU hash rate for LESS than they'd earn? The thought of this is ludicrous and is proof that the cloud mining sector is full of greedy people.

but for someone who wants to invest in something 100%, as the case of the OP, it is not a good idea to invest in mining. besides everytime mining is mentioned people usually go towards "cloudmining" which we all know how it is.

i suggest you do some research about trading altcoins with your bitcoin. BUT if you want to jump in without enough information and knowledge you will surely lose more money than you earn. but if learn the ways, the earning is good.

EVen the "pros" that claim to "Beat" the altcoin markets either only do it by manipulating the market or the flat out lie about their results. The problem is that there is so much variance and people are really bad in distingushing results into skill and variance.

There are very few who are beating the alt coin market consistently and like you said that is threw manipulation and flat out lies. Most of them who do are cum bags plain and simple. The problem is those who try to trade are so new to it most of the time they cannot hold for long enough or know when a coin is accumulating there is so much to learn not many have the patience to be able to but if you do then you can earn from it if you have a lot of discipline.

It's not hard to beat the market with cryptos, really... the problem is people still don't utilize basic investing/trading rules and end up losing everything due to one bad bet.

That chart shows deflation, rather than inflation (devaluation). It says it's AUS->USD, and that it went from 1.1 to 0.7. This means whereas it used to cost $1.1 AUS = $1 USD, now it only takes about half that. This means it would have deflated by 50% (meaning $AUS is actually worth twice as much as it was before, relative to USD).

i.e., in 2012, if I had $1000, I could buy $1100 in stuff in Australia. Now, with $1000, I can only buy $700 in stuff there with the same USD. So the value of $AUS has gone up, the value of USD has gone down.

For your statement to ring true, it would have to go in the opposite direction (in that it would take MORE $AUS to equal the same USD).

You're definitely incorrect. You can even run it through a converter if you need confirmation. Just use Google and type in $1 USD and you'll see that it coincides with the chart's estimate that AUD->USD is around 0.77:1. Or use any other converter for confirmation as well.

The chart you just posted is in the opposite direction of your first, showing that it now takes $1.2x to equal $1 AUD. That coincides with it taking $0.77 AUS to equal $1 USD. If you look at its history, just in 2013 it was only $0.95 USD to equal $1 AUD. So just from this period, AUD has increased in value by over 25%.

This is missing the point of Bitcoin. When buying or selling bitcoins you must trust your counter-party if the transaction is not in person. Even if the transaction is in person there is a level of vulnerability and generally the price you are offered is not good. However, upon purchase you can store your bitcoins at your own wallet. 

well i am no "pro" and i am certainly not beating the altoin market. i am a beginner in trading altcoin and in my experience this market can be profitable if you are careful enough and enter it with some knowledge.

I don't know why anyone would think gambling is an investment. The whole premise behind it is that the house has an edge, and they always win over time. You really shouldn't do it as an investment, but more of a "let's see if I'm more lucky than most people... when I have no control over what happens."

If the OP just bought Bitcoin on the date he posted (2/26/15) and held it, his coins would've been worth $40 more each today.

So at $255 per BTC on February 26th * say 10 Bitcoins for an overal fiat value of $2550.

At today's prices, you would've had $295 per BTC * 10 for $2950 equals $2950.  You would've made $400 fiat dollars just by sitting on it.

If you didn't just BUY and HODL and look at some scam invest, trading, or gambling site....you just cost yourself $400 for doing nothing basically.

It would have been a completely different scenario if the coins dropped in value. Hodling is nice, I get the point, but it's not that bad to diversify your possible source of income because if one fails to get you profit, there are always other option that you can choose from and rely on.

Price swings happen obviously with a new currency like Bitcoin.  Goes up, goes down, goes sideways.  Sure, you can day trade, or gamble, or cloud mine, etc.  All 3 of those are waaaaayy riskier than just holding though.  You can literally lose your entire stash doing that as opposed to sitting on BTC and just let it grow organically.

Diversification not really an option.  I mean what else would you invest in, Ripple, Darkcoin, or Litecoin?

I'll vote for Bitfinex. It's got a huge trading volume and allows things like margin trading. If you're good at what you do, it's a solid platform.

There are also some platforms for futures trading, but I'm not well-versed enough in that to give recommendations.

Insider trading is illegal and immoral, but it's probably the best way to generate a huge profit with minimal risk, if the guy you're talking to is a person you know and trust. Probably the best option to go for if you're trading altcoins etc., as there's lots of people on the dark net who can provide those kind of information.

The best place to invest bitcoin is to convert it to fiat and hop on a stock exchange. Drop it in an oil ETF or Vanguard and just watch your slow profits roll in.

Insider trading might be immoral but it is definately not illegal in all markets. Bitcoin and altcoin markets are not regulated and can thus not be under normal regulation regarding insider trading.

And because of that, some people who have some solid connections to the exchanges do this, generating themselves huge profits. I would admit that if I have that some kind of connection, I would sometimes do it for the sake of profit. Not being greedy or evil, but just being practical.

There is no obligation whatsoever to not do it. You actually make the markets more efficient by doing it. "invisible hand" kind of thing ;)

100 bitcoins? Well you must be heavily invested by now! First thing is that never entrust anyone with your money (if this story is true). Entrust your money with only yourself. Don't get too much excited about growing it because it is one of the reasons why people end up getting burned and losing their money. Just wait and don't bother too much, though we are talking about almost $30,000 in here.

The "punishment" you might receive is the regret of not acting fast enough to take advantage of the situation. It's hard to sleep at night thinking that you've let a big opportunity slip right out of your hands by not doing anything. :P

The best way I believe to invest your BTC would be to think of a way to encourage more use of BTC
For example;

Split you BTC in to 2 groups, one to invest and another to mature, the amounts are up to you but you may set it 20/80

If you had a coffee shop and every coffee you sold came with a small BTC cashback to the customer's mobile wallet or whatever (some customers are going to turn down the offer so you keep their cashback).

As well as accepting fiat obviously accept BTC as well. over time the returning customers will gain enough cashback to buy a coffee outright, or discount at least, if they do not usually deal with BTC in any other way, alternatively they could use it with other BTC friendly vendors. Also in the meantime some BTC holders may want to actually spend some of their BTC in your shop instead of just sitting on it waiting for something to happen.

It works as a basic loyalty system but over time more vendors of products and services are going to accept BTC, more buy volume on exchanges means prices go up to meet demand.

What kind of inside information? There's no "news" to be on the inside of for any of these coins. This is just price manipulation. If create PossumCoin I can do whatever I want to the price to satisfy whatever motive I want. It's definitely a shitty move on my part, and not likely to lead to PossumCoin success but criminal activity is always possible.

A lot of debate exists about this. There's no value to be gained if BTC is primarily a currency, much like investing in currencies isn't a thing people do. People speculate on currencies to take advantage of short term differences in value between two currencies but if you hold Euros, you're not earning a return. BTC could very well be an asset class if it remains an "alternative currency" to fiat options. If it replaces fiat options we'll see the currency reality you're predicting.

Even as a currency, it could go up in value. Just like we hold cash now, people would hold bitcoins. And the more people there are holding them, the more their value goes up.

It's an interesting experiment, to be sure. But keep in mind that the reason the dollar is inflating is because people are holding and the government keeps printing more to cover debts (or something along those lines. If everyone spent all their money, the debt, I believe, would be nonexistent due to significant taxes, which would be funneled back into the economy).

100% trust. Buy your coins trusting yourself 100% then keeping them in a wallet and making sure you have a backup and secured wallet. Save them for 6 to 8 months or longer and check price and sit on them and watch the price go up in time and that way you have a guaranteed pay back in the future if it goes up. Buy low sell high.  Eat, Sleep, Buy low, Sell high Repeat. Profit :)

Well, yeah, you'd have a "guaranteed" return if it goes up. But who is to say it'll keep going up? Bitcoin is still very much experimental. The support behind it could just as easily move to a different crypto, leaving BTC to die later. It's still a very risky investment at this point.

In real life you cannot have guarranteed payback, even if you can the yield would be negligible since no meal is free.

Keep in mind that investing in casinos can be risky. One whale can completely tank your entire bankroll (investment) and any profits you otherwise had. While you should be fine over long periods, it could take years to see realistic gains. And throughout that time you're hoping that the site doesn't shut down, the operator doesn't run with your money, the site isn't hacked or "hacked," etc.

I think a casino is a horrible investment.  If you look at dice games it seems they work for a while until they get big then they have to move servers (possibly countries) and reopen or close.

The first rule of investing is risk control and that means that you must know the investment and the trustfulness of the owners before putting a dime in it.

The first is that they are pushing their own orders (or someone else's who is close to them) ahead of anyone else, or their trade engine is broken. I asked them about this issue. Slippage is when the order is delayed and executed at a different price than it was set, due to the oveewhelming of their servers.

You don't understand. There are many orders at these two price levels (bids and asks). For example, right now there are 7.83 BTC in sells at 0.00000051, and 40.21 BTC in buys at 0.00000050. There can be no price in between, I specifically mentioned that. If you are an exchange you can safely buy and sell at these levels (provided you place your orders before anyone else's pending orders at that price), since someone will surely buy from you or sell to you...

I would never mine with a laptop due the high risks of damaging it due to the increased temperatures (consider a laptop is more enclosed than a desktop).

Hundreds of YEARS. And you'd fry your laptop within a year most likely due to running the CPU and/or GPU at maximum capacity. Laptops aren't designed to dissipate heat too well.

Betting big on Bitcoin is not, at all, the same as going to a casino and betting big on the roulette. With Bitcoin you have 50/50. And I and almost everyone with half a brain KNOW that it will go way higher than what it is now. It's a good opportunity to go big.
And sure, doing small time investments in forex brings some gains, but you'll never be rich in the lifetime without taking risks.

I think the hard part about this is finding a place it's legal.  If you get big there is a decent chance of being shutdown on casinos and dice.  I see online gambling sites as risky investment overall.

Just hold your bitcoins for few years and the returns you will get is simply astounding, the rate of bitcoin right now is pretty low and is a good time to invest, buy and sell it 5 years after now when the price is relatively peak to the time, you will have made a huge roi :)

Altcoins are a gamble in a large part.  BTC is like the "gold" of the crypto world.  It is more stable, and it does go up and down but remains king.

You can take out fiat investments. There lots that are legit. They give you 10%-20% per year. They are not scams they are fully legit and backed up. Ponzis can be profitable if you are the first person to join them, but generally there's so many scams that you'd have to be pretty lucky to stumble upon a new "Legit"(for now) Ponzi that pays. Most of the time, it'll seem like just as you deposit your money into a Ponzi, they take it and run. Trading can be a gamble, but if you're smart and invest wisely or hodl coins, it should work out. There's no good way of investing with bitcoin, because I can guarantee you about 5/6ths of cloudmining operations are scams. If you gotta mine, buy the physical miner. There's a safe way for everything.

The S9 does, if you're willing to. At electricity costs of 0.10$/kwh, you might be able to make a slim profit. We can't predict past the halving accurately, but chances are, if you buy the S9 right now (which is impossible, they don't currently sell on Bitmain's page, wait for the next batch) you will at least make ROI. If prices continue to keep going up, then for now, S7s will continue to make Bitcoin until the halving, when they'll just be too much of a hassle to run at 0.1$kwh. Supposing you run a S9 and have it now, you'll likely be able to make around 500$. Then the halving comes, and we have no way of knowing the prices or the difficulty.

Starting next month I will be paying around $0.06 per kWh in the daytime and around $0.035 at night, so theoretically I could make a profit in the long run provided your estimation of the S9 performance is correct. Though I still think that such prices are too high to make mining a viable option...

Yes, it is just high risk I think to mine bitcoins being a small miners as you will end up with nothing due to the high electric bill but if you want it as a business and can open a big mining farm then it will be more profitable.

It all depends can't really make such a big blanket statement.  Yes it's tighter margins then a year ago but many are still able to mine profitable.  Even with having the S9 coming out will let many remain mining profitable where S7 might have not been profitable after having.

And we really don't know what value, difficulty will be after having all speculation.   So S7 hard to say who can mine it after having.  But MANY will still be able to mine with S9 it was just a huge jump in efficiency.

In no way would I consider hashflare to be in same league as hashnest.    Just look at site they talk about "HashCoins Datacenter" - https://hashflare.io/data-center/ .  Hashcoin gear was a scam that never came out with anything Zeus or after on thier gear.  Huge scam hardware company.  I would not invest a dime in them with saying that is gear they use.

Hashnest is legit and linked to Bitmain.  If your going cloud mining go there you at least get a legit cloud mining site.  So possible ROI and not throwing money at scam.

Yeah holding bitcoin is the safest method i know to make profits. I also preparing for that long term investment and as of now i'm just collecting and saving some bitcoins to be able to hold them for a long time at least 4 years and after 4 years i think that halving is near to that and i will wait again for next halving (2020) and i will sell them because i believe that the price will exceeds $1k per piece ;D.

That is a great list but i think if i'm the one who will choose what is best. I would go trading mostly altcoin trading because it's one of the best way to earn a lot of bitcoin if you have some knowledge or just experience. i don't know what you know and don't know so i can't tell you any specific way but in general if you read hundreds of topics like this one you always find all the ways you can make an investment.
they are generally these:
- invest in trading (good bug has some risk)
- invest in casino bankroll (good but high risk)
- invest in cloudmining (bad and high risk)
- invest in HYIP (very bad and extremely high risk) --> never do it
- start your own business (can be both good and bad)

the only investment that worked so far for me was buying some altcoins and waiting for their prices to go up then selling them aka trading altcoins. it can go wrong but not as much as investing on other things in bitcoin.

Really if I had bitcoins as far back as 2015, I would have kept them. Now the price has risen a lot.

İ do trading on altcoins and gold

I would prefer to invest my fiat to buy bitcoin but cannot afford to invest my bitcoin in any online site as its very risky and there is no guarantee that your investment is safe.

ya hold bitcoin and wait for high prices, it may be a very safe way. but I prefer to take risks to get greater results and investment in trade altcoins.

those method are common i think the other safe way to invest your bitcoin is for knowledge and experience like buying a domain and hosting wordpress start making your blog and use your lear about bitcoin and advertise something that you can earn.. learn seo use your bitcoin to learn it.. use your knowledge about bitcoin and share it in blog making huge traffic can give you more money in future.

yes investing bitcoin has become very risky nowadays as everyone comes out with an special offer to draw an attention of users but in long run every one gets cheated by investing in it.

I personally have seen now days lots of sites are shown in advertisement about investment and also see site get down in short time frame. So what exactly these site owner do. Already there are so many of make scam and cheated but still new users who are totally new to this are responding to them and send bitcoins to then and never get back, So its like a bad impression about bitcoins to new peoples who just get in to cryptocurrency world.

Exactly everything looks good at primary stage but over a period of time you will come to know that you have been scammed and  you have lost all your investments.

dYeah and I don't think that there is any genuine site available at a moment for making an investment as in long run every site will run away with your investments.
