Wow, I can't believe the FUD here.
For what it's worth, I am waiting for my bcus like everyone else. I spent a week at a non mining trade show with some of xilinxs top engineers. The BCU is real, and it's coming.

I refuse to pull the plug at this point and I won’t sell my miners. However if it gets around 3k I’ll just buy it.
The only reason why I don't just buy is the paper trail. Unless I'm missing something, I feel like it's defeating the privacy factor. Bitcoin has no privacy really. |

There are already a handful of people mining altcoins with fpga´s, and they are getting insane hashrates. Only downside is that they don´t release their bitstreams to the public.
Why should they release their bitstreams to the public ? They become nothing for it ! Psst... "become" doesn't mean bekommen. They do receive something. A nice and beefy dev fee. Look at the total ETH hashpower for example, assume 80% of it is mined using Claymore's miner and take 2% thereof (his fee). Do the math. Bitstreams don't work that way. Right now there is no way to capture a developer fee, since software on the PC still has to talk to the FPGA to connect the hashpower to a pool. Given all the folks who will happily recompile and distribute mining programs after disabling the fee to the unwashed masses, there is no upside. Someone will 'improve' the miner and remove the dev fee, and once the bitstream is out, there is no way to fix that. The Allmine shell will fix that, so developers can release encrypted streams and capture a fee off of the hashrate, but today, as it exists, nobody in their right mind would do it. Until then, FPGA's will mine in big farms where they can pay for the development costs. |

Check here: https://store.mineority.io/product/fpga/Kristy-Leigh Minehan (aka OhGodAGirl) has teamed up with GPUHoarder and there is something like 1900+ FPGAs available. At least this is what her store counter says  I believe she mentioned that Mineority had acquired 2000 units to make available to the public or to run them in-house. Don't quote me, head over to their site and read for yourself. So that's 5000 units + 2000 units for a total of 7000 units going be from xilinx that is going to be on hashing? Wonder how many more there are... hashrates seems like it's going be saturated. Considering some bought from xilinx too directly from whitefire thread. The 2000 units she bought were what was available after the direct sales closed. There are only 5000 available total, for 2019. Most of the xilinx model number units (vcu1525) were not in stock at the distributors, as they (up until this) were generally used for prototyping and development, not as an end product. It will be interesting to see where the hash rate goes, since these can do many algorithims depending on what bitfile is loaded. |

Did anybody programmed these FPGAs with OpenCL? I'm thinking getting into it but I don't know if there's any performance advantage of VHDL over OpenCL.
I have used openCL to do mining (on FPGA), the performance is not impressive. |

Read through this thread and i think it's great what you guys are trying to achieve, however you have to realize some/most of us will remain skeptical until we at least see these units in action, with actual real world numbers posted for everyone to see, hopefully those results/proof will come sooner than later.
The exact same FPGA cards are available in AWS, so it would be trivial to verify it all for one's self, but the end-to-end software stack to do so has not yet been made available. And expecting people to buy rather expensive hardware without making available the software stack required for public peer review is... bold. This is what i meant, the hardware is there and capable but at what numbers/hashrates, for that we need the software, hopefully it will soon be out for everyone to see cause as it stands, without the software to mine, these will just be expensive paperweights until the software is released, i do know there's other uses for the specific fpga in this thread but the paperweight comment is for this specific use, as in mining. You realize there are lots of people mining with FPGAs that don't share it, right? If you don't understand how they work, and don't have the skills, then wait for these guys to make it available. The VCU1525 was for non-mining reasons for a while, and the folks who have been making them run have been doing so for private entities for a while. They don't feel the need to get in chat rooms and brag about their hash rate. FPGA's have been mining for much longer than anyone will admit. Just wait, and when more cards are available in 2019, you can buy one then, and everyone will be using them. |

so what are the algo provided for now? all the available minus new one right? also this group buy or whatver is intended for european only or usa only? because there is customs to pay for us
I'm working on EU manuf to deal with the VAT issues. It's not going to be a problem for me to ship worldwide. I shipped a couple of FPGA boards recently internationally. The requirements weren't what I was expecting. But, for EU customers, I'd like to ship from the EU. No algos are available yet. I believe whitefire will release his first one on 5/30. You'll have to check his thread. Any way to make it easier to have this manufactured in China and shipped to HK?  No. The cards need to be flashed with the encryption keys before they go to the customer, and Allmine/senseless/GPUhoarder are not going to send you the keys... |

Can you please reconsider supporting windows?. The technical barrier and expense to fpga cards is quite high so anything to ease the barrier to entry would be appreciative
Developing for windows is a royal pain in the ass. Look at the bugs in an established program like some of the miners that run on both - Automatic start, watchdog, etc are all an incantation of garbage batch files to to get everything run, with administrator/elevated permissions. |

Which mining software the FPGA using? ccminer?
Nobody even has anything working yet that is public. You guys that are buying expensive boards and don't know how to design logic are taking a hell of a gamble. These are not plug and play like a GPU. |

Most of the algorithms out there already exist published "for free" - that isn't the hard part.
I found only Keccak. They'd still need expensive software licenses + lots of time and reasonable sets of skills to synthesize + deploy bitstreams for a variety of hardware.
Vivado (webpack/design) tcl console + gcc/cmake, skill not needed just 1-click. Both free. ps: VCU1525 Nope. webpack only does the little toy FPGAs. |

What would be the real price? $0 It's pretty much worthless unless you need a heater to keep from freezing to death. The difficulty of dash vs price is such that you won't likely make your money back. |

The group asked for my opinion and I agree. PHI2 appears to be more of the same ASIC resistance line of thinking based on some misconceptions about what makes things hard for hardware. The fact that you lumped ASIC and FPGA resistance in one line is more telling than anything else. To be less skeptical, show me your white paper documenting the PHI2 algorithm and decisions that were made and cryptoanalysis that was done on it to be FPGA resistant? It also appear you’ve released the GPL miner binary, so I respectfully request the source. This |

You can run one in your house, it will get a lot warmer, but probably not overheat.
However, they are _VERY_ loud. Your family might leave.
More than one, and you need to use fans to exhaust the heat.

I think you are not factoring in the cost of FPGAs.
That's a good point, but the FPGA market looks totally dis-functional to me. I suspect that pricing practices will change as the impact of the Intel/Altera acquisition works thru the system. I doubt it. Altera/Intel have no desire to erode their margins, and there are a lot more high dollar uses for FPGAs than mining.... Most of the companies I've worked for will spend $50k-$100k per FPGA, for hundreds of engineers, to pull in an ASIC design schedule. |

The VCU1525 schematics and bom are available for anyone to produce. I have already sat down with Xilinx (in Shenzhen) and negotiated chip pricing. If there is enough interest, I could facilitate a chip purchase, put the chips on boards and deliver them at a regular price of $4,000-$4,500. To hit a $4,000-$4,500 and stay at $4,000-$4,500 there would need to be at least 1,000 boards sold. If order volume went up to or over 10,000 units pricing could be dropped to $3,000-$3,500 per unit. You would be able to use the device with the firmwares produced by whitefire990Any interest? Payment methods would be Crypto (obviously) and Credit Card / Paypal (identity verification would be required and shipping to your registered / verified address) So this would require his software? what if I want to develop my own? would I have a paper weight? If you are good enough to develop your own, you know the question to this. |

I'll roll if he releases a firmware that bricks the fpga cards. That would be the most epic trolling of all time. Give out some really high figures, get a bunch of people to spend a ton of money on hardware, then release a firmware that destroys the fpga  I've destroyed an amazon node or 2 accidentally with power draw. Mining is the reason the shell now has that 150A limit. nice FUD It's a completely realistic scenario. No, it's not. Unless you physically start smashing an fpga, you are not going to brick it, it's not a consumer product you just run xyz miner you downloaded odd the internet. Total fud. |

Hai folks, so ran on Kano for about 4 and a half days now, received 0.00067 BTC on this last block. I guess this pool is better for larger miners, I am running just one S9 so its probably not beneficial to me. I have been getting 0.0012 per day on slushpool, so I cannot see a benefit for me personally to keep mining on Kano. I earned less than half here over 4 days than what i get from SP in 1 day.
Am I missing something?
The payout you got above from Kano is still during your ramp period, so it won't be the normal amount. I mined at Kano through black feb, went to slush and came back. You will come out ahead at Kano if you are patient, some days have zero blocks and some have multiple. |

Apparently you don't understand mining or FPGA. Claymore has nothing to do with FPGA. No such thing exists. The FPGA will have it's own mining software/logic. It has nothing to do with claymore. |
