1  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: March 22, 2022, 01:11:40 PM
One of my F's has the white light constantly on, as opposed to flashing like the others. Does this indicate a problem?
2  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience has a new stickminer that does 300+GH on: March 17, 2022, 05:50:53 PM
Just got a few of these, appear to be running well (thanks to Kano's idiot-proof setup instructions!)  Dumb question number one - how do you know if they're overheating? I've rigged up a fan as a test, but it's probably not ideal...
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Do you know any apps in phone that can mining Ethereum? on: April 19, 2021, 10:24:10 AM
That electronium of whatever was called wasn't actually mining. It was fake type of mining. However technically you would earn actual rewards using your phone. Another 99% of all the other miners found on typically the Google App store are malware to steal your private info and private keys. They can even include clipboard attacks so if you try and send a bitcoin payment it will change the address to theirs.

Reason why there are no phone miners is obvious. They can't compete with GPUs and ASICs. If you took all the phones on the planet in existants the hashrate would maybe be equal to an ASIC or 2. Hence for a single phone there is no point.

Yeah, the electroneum app was quite annoying in that sense. It was initially part of their roadmap to enable mobile mining, but the actual release they did was 'participatory' mining, not PoW. Anyway...
4  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RTX 3090 Hash Rates & Settings on: February 03, 2021, 05:01:42 PM
First of all - try to touch backplate. 3090 may throttle due to high memory temperature. If its ok - try to add core clock several times per 100MH one time.

I have checked HWInfo and no thermal throttling, only power throttle!

In MSI Afterburner its not even displaying the mV, why would that be do you think?

Also the fan for the backplate that comes with the unit doesnt fit into my case because of another cable Sad

Thanks for replies Smiley
You will not see memory throttle, that`s why try to touch. I can`t say anything about MSI Afterburner - i just don`t remember it. Try HiveOS or RaveOS. It`s simple and helps to configure your GPUs easily.
New version of HWinfo shows memory temps for my 3090s. If its lower then 110 there is no throttling.
By the way backplate of Palit (96C mem) is hotter than Gigabyate Eagle (108C mem), when i touch it.
my settings - 0.725V 1100 Mhz Core/ 10500 Mhz memory
its on eth 120Mh/300W power consumption

Yeah, my Palits respond very well to fans/sinks on the backplate. mine @94C mem similar other numbers to above.

I am mining here in the UK Smiley I have 4 x small farms, running just under 10PH total now.

I don't use PDU's. I have 1 x 20A breaker for EACH miner, with 2 x iec C14 power cables wired directly into each breaker.

I use these extension cables and cut off the male end:

You can see some photos and details of one of my UK farms here:

Happy to answer any questions if you PM me. I would say at £0.10 kw/h you'll struggle to profit though :/

Well, £0.10 kw/h is cheaper than the majority here in London. The cheapest I've found is £0.138/kw. Who is your provider danieleither & Shitcoinah?

13.8p per kw? Sign me up - who's that? Last time I looked 17ish was the best...
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Official FutureBit Apollo LTC Image and Support thread on: February 03, 2021, 11:53:44 AM
I have always supported the op and builder of the ltc miner I still have two of them.

And since I hit a pair of blocks of doge about 20,000 doge. I decided to hodl doge.

On Jan 1  2021 I had 1,000,000 doge. mostly because of these two little miners purchased years ago.

I purchased 10gh of l3+ miners and the op gave free firmware that lowers the watts used on L3+ gear saving me a lot of watts since 2018.

of the 1,000,000 doge i had this jan 1 i sold 300000 at 5100 and I sold 450000 at 18000

a grand total of 23000 usd.

I mined about 260000 doge with his gear and the L3+

I converted some of the ltc that the l3+ mined. to get that 1,000,000 doge.

So 23,000 usd and still 250,000 doge coins in hand all sparked by his moonlander then his apollo.

So to say his Btc miner won’t do well is kind of short sighted.

at jstefanop  thank you 🙏

Yes, thanks to jstephanop seconded. I have had moonlanders and Apollos, they ran smoothly as advertised. I didn't make much from them (probably ROIed tho) but that's down to me. The new BTC version looks fun, and yeah, a 2-ish yr ROI at current diff/price is...what it is. I might buy one anyway just for fun.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: CAWB Miner . No devfee 0.1c on: October 05, 2020, 09:54:58 AM
You've removed the dev fee for people mining Cryptonight on AMD R9 gpus? Surely you're about 4 years too late on both counts...

Hashrate for deleted devfee :

AMD R9 390  Decred 950   MH/s
AMD R9 390  Equihash 0.38003 kSol/s
AMD R9 390  CryptoNight   820 H/s

8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: SQRL Hosted FK3 - mwdataco scam or legit... on: July 31, 2020, 12:46:49 PM
It is called a scam for now: 30$ of hosting fees to month without possibility of ship the miner if don' t end one year and revenue of 15$ for month with NIMQ (another tellor) and a promise of mining ethereum from one year (i think they will never mine ethereum)

The hosting fees were fixed from the outset, crypto mining profitability has gone down, so the books no longer balance. Hardly a scam?

9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: 8 x RX580 GPU build list on: July 02, 2020, 01:57:43 PM
FFS no way? I've just bought this spec as I couldn't use my Antminer lol. What about cooling it down with something? I think the 580 I bought has a lot of cooling with it?

It doesn't matter how good the GPU cooler is. If the GPU consumes 150W with a good cooler, it is going to put as much heat in the room as another 150W GPU with a bad cooler. The GPU with a good cooler will do it while keeping the GPU components at lower temps (i.e. keeping the core at 50º instead 70º), but both will output the same amount of heat to the room (power consumption = heat generated).

The good thing is that you can configure the GPUs to run at lower speeds to consume less power. This would result in lower hashrate, but at least you won't have issues with the wood in your garage.

Think about it this way - your garage is a sealed box, and you're putting a 1/1.5kw heater in it.

It's going to heat it up a lot, so you need to move that heat out of the box - an extractor fan up high and some holes covered in mesh low down will be surprisingly effective.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Setup mining Rig 6 Pin to Dual PCIe 8 Pin (6+2) one GPU one Riser same cable on: June 26, 2020, 09:01:07 AM
No, use PSU A to power MB and x3 GPU risers and pcies, then PSU B the other GPUS risers and pcies. Power A first, then B.

Either use an 'add to PSU' connector to link the two, or simply short the MB connector on psu B and switch it on second.

That way if your two PSUs outputs vary at all, it won't be your gpus in the middle.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining in personal desktop? on: June 18, 2020, 10:35:46 AM
You can mine and play games at the same time. I do it all the time.

Just set the miner to use 1/2 the power when you are gaming.

This only works with certain games and certain algos, if he is playing some memory intensive game and mining something memory intensive then it will not work. Some lite gaming is fine with reduced hashpower however given the amount of hours that people game its just better off to disable mining completely while gaming and just re-enable it after they are done.

Will it affect my GPU/CPU lifespan? Is it necessary to run the desktop 24/7 without shutting down? Just pretty curious.

Of course it will, just like driving your car 24/7 with the pedal to the floor.

This is true however the average lifespan of a GPU is probably at least 5+ years, usually the hardware gets obsolete. The fans are the most common failure points.

Absolutely, the fans might die 'sooner' if you mine with them, but they should be fine for many years, even running 24/7. The trick to doing what you ask is to tune your desktop so that mining isn't using all the available resources. This might be more hassle than it is worth though, and may well result in slower browsing - gaming will suffer too. The easiest thing to do is just mine when you're not gaming...
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU miner in closed (server) cases - need some help on: June 04, 2020, 02:50:47 PM
Are deltafans and server cases the better way to go thermal wise? Because I could also just put the rigs in smaller stackable open air frames and enclose them in a custom built tent with a top exhaust cap connected to the vent. Fresh air could be just blown into the room, to use the cooled down air of the basement on hot days.

The key benefit is that you can shift some of the cooling requirements to the Delta fans, which are designed to run 200+CFM for ever, rather than GPU fans that will eventually fail (albeit after a lot of abuse). In practice this means you can throttle the GPU fans right back, moving heat away from the cards even more. This also means that if a GPU fan does fail, you have redundancy.

On the downside, they're louder than open frames, and you'll still be limited by the thermal capacity of your in-and-out fans, so you will get a denser setup, but not a bigger one (assuming you are currently maxed out).
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: GPU miner in closed (server) cases - need some help on: June 02, 2020, 08:00:43 AM
My recommendation would be to use riserless motherboards with their own cases with delta fans. If you have 3-slot GPUs, you should be able to remove the GPU fans and cool them with the case fans only (I did that with my Vega GPUs). Just make sure that the case is big enough to accommodate your GPUs and that it has delta fans at both sides.

A case with good clearance is the one sold by ITZR with its riserless motherboards (the same that Octominer rebranded). The cheapest would be to contact the manufacturer directly on Alibaba and get it imported by sea freight, although with the current world situation, transportation has become much more expensive.

Yeah, I'd second this if you're in a buying mood. A few of these running SMoS or similar mining OS will be rock solid and faff-free. Once you've tuned the fans to the right noise/temp balance you'll be golden. Top tip: you can undervolt Deltas by swapping the molex pins (google it) and make em much quieter if temps allow.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining $95 a Week | Bitmain Antminer K5 Nervos CKB ASIC Miner Review on: May 21, 2020, 10:01:43 AM
I think the Nervos project is still new that's why this asic miner is bringing such rewards, once many miners forward their hashing power to Nervos project the reward will get lower fast

Eh, What rewards? I have three running right now making a marginal gain. I am spec. mining to be sure!
i heard there are way stronger and efficent ckb miners out there, fpgs and shit

FPGAs better than ASICs? Not unless the asic is really, really, really old and crap. That's kinda the point of going to all the cost and hassle of building asic chips...
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Remote control your rigs in long distance on: April 30, 2020, 01:09:37 PM
Great stuff!
Thinking about team viewer too, but the problem is the battery life of the pc/laptop. Maybe i need to go back and forth for every 3 days if for an average, with immersion i dont think i will need to take care of that much stuff.
Trying to use what Gigabyte use, the fluid that evaporates
*anyone know where to buy? *

Does kinda depend what your rigs are. Smos OS (or similar) and smartplugs (configure MB to reboot on power) are great for a few GPU-style rigs, but if you're taking asics then the local network PC is a winner for sure...
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: miner AEON on: March 19, 2020, 03:56:53 PM
hi, i'm new and i run start to mine AEON. my difficulty is in finding a miner who allows this. to date I have tried many but I just can not configure or find a working pool. can you please address me with some links?

I use xmrig on apltro pc and it works perfectly to mine monero.
so if it were possible to mine aeon with xmrig 5.9 would you recommend the best configuration and pool

I haven't mined AEON for ages, but:
1. A list of pools can be found at https://miningpoolstats.stream/aeon   ; make sure you look only at the ones with recent activity.
2. Each pool has somewhere written how to configure the miner; some do it better than others. One hopefully good is at https://aeon.miner.rocks/#getting_started
3. I've read on AEON discord ( https://discord.gg/xWZ2z78 ) that AEON is ASIC-mined (too) now. It may worth checking this if you mine with something much weaker.

so it is not recommended? what's easily minable currently? with cpu

Aeon is FPGA/ASIC, no point bringing a CPU peashooter to a gunfight. Try XMR on randomX for a start...
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Is it safe to use regular, not server psu with asics? on: March 12, 2020, 06:23:36 PM
Hi,

found two PSU's not being used in the garage (evga 1000 and 850 , gold 80+ model both).

if I want to power a 750W ASIC miner should I use one PSU for 2 hash boards and the other one (smaller) for the last hash board and the mainboard?

also, since they are modular, can any leads be used to power the gear? ie. the GPU/CPU/peripherals?

thanks

The 1000w will do the job fine. You'll probably find that the pcie cables are the ones that fit - 6-pin most likely. Just need to jump the motherboard plug or use the EVGA tester that comes with most psus.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: XFX Radeon RX 570 8GB, good for mining? on: December 18, 2019, 10:54:49 AM
The experience I had with this XFX model was bad, everyone had problems with just over 1 year of mining ...

They have a bad cooling system.

I had the rx470 4GB earlier models, and they were bombproof. They didn't clock as high as Sapphire or MSI tho, but they were much cheaper.

All this said, you'd be better off 2nd hand/Nvidia/checking your electric rate at the moment...
19  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RagerX - New All-In-One Monero (XMR) RandomX Miner on: December 13, 2019, 04:04:19 PM
Creators of XMR Stak? Well, they're doing it wrong all of a sudden then...

Mistake 1 - Dedicated OS

Makes sense for coins mineable with GPU mining rigs, but most home miners are using their computers for mining Random X coins that they need to be able to do a lot of other things on. So, any RandomX miner hoping to get widely adopted would have to work with mainstream operating systems.

And let me guess, to get the 10% speedup, this OS is required. To eliminate it would mean to lose the 10% gain.

That's totally my point, exactly. I don't get who 'RagerX' is aimed at. Dedicated OS on a thumb drive is great for GPU rigs, but RandomX just doesn't stack up like that, and wasn't designed to either.

The whole shilling/weird link from Fireice github/is it any good debate seems a bit secondary to the fact that I don't see a use case/demand for this at all. Happy to be proven wrong/educated, but I don't get it.

20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: RagerX - New All-In-One Monero (XMR) RandomX Miner on: December 12, 2019, 03:46:14 PM
XMR just forked to RandomX POW. It’s optimized for cpu mining, gpu mining XMR is basically a waste of electricity at this point.

If that's a response to my comment, I'm well aware of that. My point is you'd have to be insane to buy a high end CPU to dedicate to mining XMR, which is what this boot-from-usb requires, unless I'm missing something.

Using spare CPU capacity on a gaming machine or whatever I can understand, although breakeven on electric is another question...
